The New Revenant Society is the website and blog of the two Christophers —Christopher M and Christopher S, two off-the-grid homesteaders who are founding a tea plantation in rural Virginia. They invite correspondence by US Mail at newrevenantsociety@gmail.com.

Christopher M is an author and former counterintelligence analyst living in the Appalachian mountains. After high school, he joined the Army Intelligence Corps and deployed to Afghanistan in 2013. His time in the military drove him to want to understand cultures, leading to his completing a bachelor’s in sociology and an MBA in strategic management. When he isn’t writing, he enjoys reading, cooking, drawing, researching, and spending time with his cats, chickens, and ducks. His new book, The Psychology of Collapsing, will be published in paperback and e-book on December 16, 2022. If you have a Kindle, you can pre-order the e-book now!

Christopher S’s  dedication to horticulture and sustainable living propelled him to earn a  B.S. in Environmental Sustainability. His passion for nature and sustainable living came together once he discovered Permaculture and its design ethic. Since then, he has worked on several tiny house builds, designed permaculture properties, and currently resides on an 11-acre property in Appalachia, cultivating tea (and other garden projects). Being off-grid has been a challenging experience to break into, but one that aligns with his values and purpose in life. He writes diligently about adapting to a life beyond fossil fuels and building sustainable communities.

And I thought Chris M. was gonna be Chris Martinson…silly me.

Nice to hear Jimbo interview the “younger generation”. Don’t get in their way, CFN…they’ve got a lot of livin’ to do, and believe me, they’ll do it THEIR way.

James, you Boomers did a damned fine job of feminizing the males of the Millennial Generation. I’ve come to believe that mass incarceration should be ended. Letting the barbarians out to cull the herd of weaklings sounds like the sane and moral thing to do.

you are missing a few generation or something else,
I know it’s the booz talking

    Hey Chris and Chris,

You go guys. Well done and respect. I don’t see too many folks around here with dirt under their fingernails. Important work, which I too hope more people get into.

    Cheers

    Chris

A grade C- blog interview. I have homesteaded for over a decade and these 2 are primitives to adapting to this lifestyle. Using cargo containers and then learning about condensation is so elemental to rational hibernation mindsets. They are learning and I congrat them, but bongo do they have a steep learning curve. They are fortunate to live in Zone 8 (warm) vs. Zone 4 (frigid) here, otherwise they wud starve with their current modus operandi. Jim quipped in on their lack of elemental knowledge by bringing up deer fencing, and their solution is good for a year – deer do not fear circular wind vertices. Jim also calibrated them to reality when they mentioned that diesel trains would not be viable in the future. They read a lot but shud study fuel consumption energy metrics as we definitely need trains not 1000-10 wheelers (in lieu of 3 train diesels) in the new era of scarcity. At least they get political viewpoints from that sage Orlov for which I give them an A+.

Kashub…haven’t heard much from Dmitry recently. He seems to have fallen off the face of the earth since the Russian “invasion”. Keepin’ a low profile, I guess.

I’m going to say the uncomfortable part out loud… these 2 men, though admirable in their efforts, are largely able to live this lifestyle in the modern world because they are not straight. Sorry, full stop. All power to them, but it’s actually not practical for 90-95% of us to exit the system (YET).

Those who are trying to perpetuate the species the traditional way, that is, husband+wife+ children, do not currently have the ability or luxury to:

    A) finance this change,
    B) donate away years of providing for our children learning these skills, or
    C) convince the State to let us raise children this way

We need entire communities getting together to make these changes until the community has the collective reskilling embedded into the culture. Going it alone will not work as our survival skills (writ large) are not sufficient.
