The din of war drums beating hasn’t completely drowned out the barrage of lying bullshit issued by US Deep State blobsters in their effort to keep reality at bay from a citizenry gone restive and aggrieved over the seemingly deliberate ruination of our country by the people who run it.
On Thursday, FBI Director Chris Wray and Homeland Security chief Alejandro Mayorkas warned Americans that terrorist threats are rising in the US since Hamas attacked Israel, October 7th. Mr. Wray explained: “Here in the U.S., we cannot and do not discount the possibility that Hamas or other foreign terrorist organizations could exploit the conflict to call on their supporters to conduct attacks on our own soil.” We must be especially alert to the “lone wolf” lurking amongst us, he added.
Neither of these officials noted that the rising terror threat here had any relation to the thousands of aliens streaming daily across the US border unvetted, or that the agencies under Homeland Security were helping to distribute them into every corner of America by plane and bus, giving them free cell phones, loaded debit cards, and other rewards for breaking the law.
And that “lone wolf” bit — is it possible that any number of them actually arrived as trained and pre-organized cadres or squads? How would we know? Most of them are military-age young men. Are these unreasonable questions to ask? And if Hamas was so supernaturally successful in secretly planning the mass murder and kidnapping operation of 10/7 from Gaza that the world’s supposedly top intel agencies were blindsided as it rolled out, why should Americans have any confidence that the FBI has a clue what any of those unvetted border-jumping mutts are up to here? Especially since those free phones enable them to find each other and hook-up right from the get-go, without delay. It’s even possible that those phones were preloaded with their comrades’ numbers on speed-dial. Not to mention that illegal migrants have been coming here in huge waves for years, and surely some have been busy ever since setting up networks aimed at making trouble that new arrivals can easily slot into.
Since the FBI has been so preoccupied the duration of the “Joe Biden” regime tracking down every native-born living soul who attended the 1/6/21 riot at the US Capitol, instead of using the agency’s assets to monitor alien networking, you have to wonder why Mr. Wray even bothers to comment on the current situation. He can only embarrass (or incriminate) himself more deeply. One thing for sure is not happening: any effort by Mr. Mayorkas and his 260,000 employees to make the US/Mexico border any less porous. If it hadn’t occurred to them yet, they might consider closing down the US-funded United Nations operation in Central America (with help from several international NGOs) that is running way-stations to transport aliens north to our border in hundred-plus bus fleets at a time, taking every possible advantage to accelerate the flow. I guess we’ll just have to stand by and see what happens.
Speaking of mind-blowing bullshit, emanating from a different pseudopod of the DC blob, former CIA Director Leon Panetta chimed in with Fox News’s Bret Baier last week to declare he still thinks that Hunter Biden’s laptop was a Russian dis-info operation. Mr. Panetta was a co-signer of the notorious letter from 50 other former US Intel bigwigs in October, 2020, a few weeks before the election, organized by former Acting CIA Director Mike Morell to gaslight voters after The New York Post published the existence of the Laptop from Hell and some of its sordid contents tending to incriminate the Biden family for foreign influence-peddling.
As with so many blobsters infesting government and its nether regions, Leon Panetta likes to demonstrate that his contempt for the people of this land is boundless. He can’t possibly believe what he is saying. Everyone from the FBI to The New York Times has declared Hunter’s laptop authentic. Therefore, Leon Panetta is either a fool, a lying scoundrel, or insane. This kind of self-satisfied dishonor is a new thing in the USA, at least at the colossal scale it has achieved the past decade. In 2023 it is the order-of-the-day. In this particular case, it led to putting “Joe Biden,” with his handlers and movers, in a position to destroy the country, and they are getting it done.
Yet, events are still in motion, and decades are happening in days now. We’ll learn this week whether escalation of the war involving Israel and its enemies can be averted without giving Hamas a pass on consequences for its recent murder spree. We’ll learn whether a meaningful opposition against the Party of Chaos can organize around a new House speaker. We’ll learn whether that same assembly can begin the process of laying out a president’s crimes for all in the nation to see, including the sizeable cohort of citizens who relish official lying and being lied to.

My kids are friends with a lot of first generation Americans, children of recent immigrants.
In my experience, they are the same as any other American kid. American accent, American interests, etc. All of them grew up around other Americans, including other children of immigrants, but from different countries, so they turned out American.
I think it might be different for kids brought up in ethnic enclaves, like the Somalis in MN.
They aren’t Americans.
People are different with different people. Many of the Jihadis are just so such 2nd generation types, no doubt with accents and habits befitting their place of birth, and underneath that terrible angst and bitterness.

I look at it this way, from a religious perspective. I believe that we are in the end times prophesied by ancient prophets in the Bible. We are witnessing events that are leading up to the return of a divine individual known as Jesus Christ.
I believe that when Christ returns there will be no United States. Why? Think about it. If you are a Christian and you believe we are in the end times and that Christ’s return is inevitable, what kind of an environment is he going to return to?
When Christ returns will they hold a joint session of the US Congress and invite Christ to be their key note speaker to discuss the merits of abortion and how to settle budgetary woes? Not likely.
When Christ returns will they invite him onto MSNBC with other talking heads to discuss the pros and cons of transgenderism and homosexuality? Not hardly.
When he returns he will return to a world that is officially ready for his return, either through destruction at our own hands or destruction at his hands. Personally, I believe we are going to destroy ourselves and will be ready and eager for his mighty return.
For those of you who are not of faith, please ignore my comments. You have to be a person of faith for any of this to make any sense.
I agree with you, cankerpuss. “When you see these things begin to happen….” Since we know the end of the story, we can see that all the “solutions” to the country’s or the world’s problems aren’t going to work, no matter what party’s “in charge” at the moment.
I’m not in the slightest bit religious but I agree that this is generally how things will go down, just without the supernatural element.

What we are missing in the US of A is a proper Reservation for snakes like Panetta.
Start with the nastiest, gator infested swamp in Louisiana. Dig a moat around it and build a razor wire fence around the outside. Round up the Clinton and Biden Crime Families and the mass murderers on the boards of directors of Pfizer, Gates. and fellow drug pushers. Supply each with a Boy Scout knife, strip them naked, and helicopter them into the middle of the Reservation.

My late Dad told me years ago that America was finished by 1950 because of infiltration by the NKVD/KGB and other malign foreign influences. He worked in the intel services back in the Eisenhower and Kennedy Administrations, and probably had seen information he took to his grave about the rot in Washington.
My personal feeling is that the America envisioned by the Founders died around the time of Andrew “The Heto” Jackson, but staggered along until the Civil War gave birth to a new nation with a strong central government and the near-destruction of the Tenth Amendment. That government is the one that’s been dismantled over the last 125 years by the arrogant proto-socialists who labeled themselves Progressives appeared on the scene.
As for the fuckstains in Congress who call themselves “conservatives,” all most of them seem to care about is who gets to play with the blocks and who gets the Etch-A-Sketch, and to hell with the country or it’s people. I’ve been beating my head against walls on other news sites trying to explain to people that Gaetz had cause for torpedoing McCarthy, but he’s too fucking stupid to have lined up a replacement Speaker before he acted. As a result, there are around 220 Republican toddlers, dunces, skanks, self-appointed “leaders” who can’t lead a one-person parade, and charlatans who would rather fuck each other over than do their job of picking one of them to be Speaker and taking care of necessary legislation before the country goes bust. I have a near-pathological hated of the Democrats, but they know how to unite and advance an agenda against all opposition as if they’re Alexander’s army campaigning against the assemblage of undisciplined yokels they call average Americans. Barring divine intervention, they’re going to win and turn America into another socialist people’s paradise, and we’re all to blame for not standing against them because “it’s hard.”

Last night Dr. John Campbell on YT played a speech by a man in the EU detailing how the WHO (the Bill and Melinda Gates outfit) is in the final stages to take over the entire planet with future “pandemics” only THEY will be deciding. The new TREATY will give WHO the authority to lockdown citizens of ALL signatory countries and will give them authority to MANDATE all vaccines, gene therapies and other treatments THEY deem necessary with no debate from signatory countries.
No rights will be allowed to have legal recourse for injuries, refusals etc.
The media is ignoring this world government take-over as is our Congress.
This will automatically go into effect in early 2025 if our Congress does not vote to get out of it. We will lose all sovereignty as a country. It could be sooner if I have my dates wrong.
I see this power play as the most dangerous move our country has faced as the Constitution declares that treaties are “the highest law of the land”. Congress could rubber stamp this in the dead of night and then it would be too late to stop it.

I’ve long suspected that congress merely rubber stamps what has been decided at a higher level, slapping the terms HR or Act on it, and calling it a day before heading to the parking garages to collect their BMW’s.

They are ok, but I’m less-than-crazy about the small-snout style of the front. The cars looks kind of average, almost as homely as the Lexuses (Lexi?) but I’m no connoisseur.
I know someone who recently got rid of her BMW because it was too expensive to fix and maintain.
If I had some money to blow and the mindset that came along with it and had to pick some sort of non-custom, mass-production connoisseur-level mobile living-room-on-wheels, a Porsche might be preferred.
If I had yet more money and a similar mindset, maybe McLaren. (And Lotus?) Ferraries and Lamborghinis, while ok, never quite appealed like the McLarens and maybe others I forget. But maybe they’re different these days.
But what with the misfortune I had early on with my roadway toys, they would need to be bombproof or at least super affordable in case they did bomb. So maybe a road-certified dirt/off-road bike.
Now that I think about it, of the cheaper, though somewhat different utilitarian cars, I used to prefer the original Austin Minis over the original Volkswagen Beetles.

It has a BMW engine. There are also electric versions.
This is my old bike, the one a friend, without my explicit permission, emptied the radiator of and replaced it with water instead of antifreeze.
So it froze while parked outside and so when turned back on, the pistons overheated and almost seized. I had to get a new piston and sold it shortly thereafter.
My friend probably saved my life, though, because I used to ride it too fast and without proper leather:

Yes, because it is a RWD chassis, with balanced weight distribution, and a harmonically balanced straight-6 engine–which are things you probably want if you like to drive.
Has nothing to do with snobbery. I’d gladly by a 20-year-old one for peanuts if it were kept up.
Porsche make great cars, but I am not sure I could be seen in a modern one. Too flashy. Cayman GT2 is probably marvelous to drive, however.

I looked up the new McLaren and it just looks like a plain sports car, so scratch that. Good point about flashy.
It means rear-wheel drive.
Which is generally what you want for driving enjoyment. Rear-biased AWD is also nice.
Oh ya that’s right– rear wheel drive. I had heard stories a long time ago about how front wheel drive was supposed to be in some ways better, maybe to avoid spinning out under hard acceleration or to pull a car through snow with less likelihood of skidding. Nowadays, what with anti-skid and who knows what else, going back to RWD might make sense.
Back when I got my Yamaha, monoshocks and anti-dive front shocks, and even where the stanchions were on the bottom seemed to be just getting going for road and maybe dirt bikes too. Perhaps some earlier 2-strokes had liquid cooling, but it still seemed rare.
FWD is chosen for economy cars (or cars where the manufacturer wants to charge you for other things), as it is cheap to manufacture and suitable for grocery getting. Some people like how it behaves in snow, because all the weight is over the drive wheels, which feels safer to the average unskilled driver.
If you actually enjoy driving, FWD is the worst drive configuration, as it understeers heavily at the limits of grip. The front axle is handicapped as it is nose heavy and has to both turn and provide drive.
RWD platforms are much better balanced, as the weight of the engine and the tranny is between the axles.
There are many other benefits, too, but this post would be very long if I got going.

It is a fascinating read from a “dinosaur” of the German automotive press. I think Audi banned him from doing press drives and events at one point.

Abby: They’re planning to have it signed by May 2024. The changes to the International Health Regulations, which are just as devastating, were agreed a year ago and will be ratified this month.

Global government, control and micro-management of the people through technology is obviously and logically the next step, the historic unit of governance having moved from tribe to region to nation state to bloc etc.

Transition Towns?
One large problem seems to be that not as many, nor with as much power, are offering ethical alternatives, nor warning the general populations about what might be planned for them, whether they like it or not or consent to it or not.
But of course it is no surprise, given what we already live under anyway.
If you are in Britain (well, other places around the globe too), have you ever heard of Transition Towns? Totnes? They may have sort of changed their name to the Transition Network.
Maybe it’s changed but one concern I had– I was involved with it– was that, while they had/have a lot of good ideas, they still seem(ed) to look to fundamentally-coercive/undemocratic, if more local, governments. Maybe that’s not so, and if they are practicing permaculture, many permies, if not all, including its founder, David Holmgren, are anarchists.
Is Rob Hopkins anarchist? Is Transition Towns Woke?

I have the original Transition Handbook on a bookshelf. I don’t personally think Hoskins has (or at least had back then) any notions similar to the 15-minute ghettos planned by the UN. He was aware of oil depletion and was for making life more local, similar to JHK. Totnes had (presumably still has?) a ‘Totnes pound’ to help local businesses – likewise Lewes. I’d say that was the opposite of the notion of CBDCs.
I also have Patrick Whitehead’s ‘The Earth Care Manual’ (UK permaculture bible) from years ago, but my interest could only be academic, as I never had any possibility of owning anywhere with land.
Portobello, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, is a Transition Town. It’s where the city folks used to go for a beach holiday in years gone by, but it’s just a suburb of Edinburgh now. You certainly wouldn’t know it was a Transition Town, driving through it!
Anyway, I haven’t looked at TT stuff in many years. I don’t know if it’s been co-opted in any way since then, but I personally don’t see it as having had anything to do with the UN-type top-down initiatives.

That’s encouraging, and while he does mention in the video some ostensible State-related buzzwords like ‘green new deal’, ‘climate change’ and ‘universal basic income’, I guess all social movements along ‘transitioning lines’ will have some overlap, intentional or otherwise.
But it’s still an avenue/option, along with ecovillages, intentional communities and the like and whatever else might be out there, like permaculture and rewilding projects.
After almost joining an ecovillage, I moved to a small town in Nova Scotia here– about a year before Jim moved to Greenwich– precisely to try to transition a town. As things can go, plans/directions changed. Transition sort of died around here too anyway. Do you know if Jim ever discussed Transition or permaculture and whatnot on his blog, say, 10 years ago or whatever else he might have tried in Greenwich?

My feeling, in the noughties and beyond, was that the Transition movement wasn’t really going anywhere. But the only place I’d hoped it would go was much the same as where peak-oilers generally thought we should go: local food, less travel, less mad consumerism etc., not the insane UN stuff.

I suspect that voting has always been pretty much meaningless. Seems to me that the PTB have always and for all practical purposes made the decisions. Often it was prudent to institute large-scale propaganda campaigns before the fact, to make it APPEAR that these decisions had the mandate of the people. And, nowadays, elections are openly rigged. Most of the larger ones have probably always been rigged.
Speaking as a woman, myself, I have never seen much sense in voting–though there have been maybe three elections in which I’ve voted during my lifetime.
I do think–if you take voting seriously–that not everyone should be able to vote. I.e., I think prosperctive voters should be tested for literacy, numeracy, and the Constitution. I don’t think land ownership should be a requirement. (Few people in this country even own their homes: the bank owns them, if they have a mortgage.) Also, no one who derives any portion of their income, whether through welfare, government employment, holding a government office, government subsidy or monopoly (or employment by any entity receiving government subsidies or benefiting from a government-conferred monopoly), government pensions, government contracts, etc., should be allowed to vote. Thus, you can see right away that over half of working adults would be disqualified from voting. For example, no one employed in health care, pharmaceuticals, or health-insurance would be able to vote. Nor would school teachers or anyone else employed by the public school system, K-PhD. Nor would law-enforcement personnel. I think that should fix the problem, assuming voting has any weight.

Paula – yes, that’s one of the ways they’re doing it. The SNP leader recently put it out there that they were considering making it illegal to sell a home with a gas boiler. I’m finishing up a first reread, to help some of the information crystallize. I’ve thought for a few years now that the drive is to CBDC – Central Bank Digital Currencies – on a global basis, as a final means of ultimate control. It couldn’t be done piecemeal – a country at a time – as global trade wouldn’t mesh.
I couldn’t figure out how CBDC could be introduced globally. The incrementally changed legal path the author lays out – with “securitization” of all assets – makes the taking of all assets – even hard assets, possible.
I don’t think most people understand the implications of CBDC, they think only in terms of electronic or cashless transactions. They think, I have direct deposit, use credit cards and use cash apps, so what if we go cashless? CBDC is a different animal – an inescapable control mechanism.
The Canadian Trucker movement in Canada, protesting Covid vaccine mandates was a perfect example. First all their assets were frozen. People that supported the truckers – bringing food, fuel and firewood to keep warm, had their assets frozen. Finally, a GoFundMe account in support of the truckers was taken by the Canadian government.
That’s the control mechanism – misbehave and go hungry. Another is expiry “credits” that must be spent when the economy needs juiced & account modifications based on Chinese-style “social credit scores”, as you suggest. You and I based upon our thinking would probably be near zero.
I think all that remains is a problem-reaction-solution scenario, i.e., create the problem, get the desired reaction and propose the solution – to roll out CBDC in the form of a coordinated global economic response, exactly like we saw with Covid – all countries working in lockstep.

Publicly owned businesses will be taken, because their stock & bonds are already securitized. Very few privately owned businesses operate on retained earnings. Credit lines offer liquidity, purchase inventory and so on, so they’ll be taken as well.
Mom & Pop’s aren’t really businesses, they’ll go by the wayside as the owners do personally. Have a friend who has a private business – maybe $100 million annual gross revenue – that is debt free and operates solely on retained earnings. Very rare.

Re CBDCs, though, I think the only thing that needs to be co-ordinated globally, in the long run, is the move to sole use of CBDCs for currency. Some countries have already seen them introduced alongside cash and other currency. Others are somewhere in the ‘planning’ or ‘research’ stage. If you check out the website ‘Atlantic Council CBDC tracker’ there is an interactive map showing where all countries in the world are in the pursuit of CBDC rollout. The last time I looked, two insignificant countries had ‘cancelled’ – one can only assume that will cause them difficulties trade-wise (and perhaps worse) once it’s rolled out as sole currency in most other places.
On your point about ‘blue-lined’ areas, if you haven’t read it, you might be interested in Rosa Koire’s book that I mentioned a few posts up. I can’t remember her exact job, but she was possibly involved in working for people and businesses caught up in re-zoning initiatives and that was how she discovered what was going on at the local level. A local authority could re-zone the area where your home is and take it from you, or declare an area ‘blighted’ for any reason at all.

I think that secondary residences and acreages that are not attached to ones primary residence should be taxed. The reason I say this is because, taxing discourages people from buying up and holding large amounts of land, thus tending to create high land prices and land monopolies. (Same with housing.) Also, the public school system shoud be closed down entirely, as this is where most of your property taxes go. As for the rest of the stuff on your tax bill, they can find some other way to fund it.

I mentioned the other day that the conventional wisdom among politicos is that third party candidates don’t win, they are a protest vote.
It looks like Mr. Kucinich subscribes to that theory as well.
President Trump has maybe 75 million people who are never going to desert him. The commies taking over the Democrats aren’t going to go for Bobby, neither are the people inclined to vote Democrat for free stuff.

I learned of a new law here in USA, Caste prejudice being illegal in some areas.

My nephew recently married an Albanian. At the ceremony, I met her friends and some relatives. What a bunch of nice people. I really liked them. I’m not saying all Albanians are ok, but from what I saw, I was impressed.

Plus, I have expressed annoyance that all those people confidently proclaiming that “there are no rules in war. So it takes some courage to publicly refuse to choose between two sides that are both supported by the same puppet masters.

We, as ever, are being played, and innocent civilians on both sides (and some 40% of Gaza’s population are children) are being sacrificed by and to the puppetmasters.

Please define what you call the observable universe.
Observationally, we’ve been searching for evidence of alien civilizations through SETI for a long time. We have yet to find one, but our observational techniques are getting more and more advanced. I think we are on the cusp to finding evidence of intelligent life.
But I’d like to differentiate between finding such evidence and visitations to Earth. The distances are so huge we really don’t know if they are or were here, despite some people’s hopes.
For me, I would be very nervous if we found real evidence of alien star travel or past visitations. On Earth, the history of civilizational contacts between cultures have turned out bad for the lesser advanced societies.
Anyway, about me being pedantic which means excessively concerned with formalism or minutae. My interests lie in huge numbers, so even small differences add up to large errors. In that sense, I guess I am pedantic.

Looking up at the sky is looking through a Time Machine, both past and future. As St. Elmo said, if Betelgeuse is 650 light years away, the light from its supernova explosion would take 650 years to reach us. 650 light years is about 3,900 trillion miles, so the light would have been traveling for about 4 quadrillion miles through space. Why, that’s almost equal in miles to the world’s liability in derivative dollars (so you could say we have a Betelgeuse worth of liability)!
By studying further out stars and then comparing them with closer similar ones, we can see how the older ones have changed over time. Then we can extrapolate the differences to guess how the stars in the future will look, thus time traveling to the future. Of course, it’s much more complicated than my example, but the principle is the same.

Notice haw nature does not have species that are very close to each other, many forms of hippos, or Rhinos, or even humans. Similar species occupy the same resource niche and therefore compete. The fittest survives.
Ever wonder what a great extinction event really entails? Life starts over from a few few remaining species. Dinosaurs evolved after the Great Extinction and mammals after the Chixalub extinction.
One thing I have always wondered is what happens to the earth itself when it collides with something, does it change orbit, does it shift axis? Maybe, maybe not. But regardless, these mass homicidal despots of history seem to nearly always appear right after the failure of a republic. Napoleon came in after France’s rather short lived and chaotic experiment with kicking out and even killing their original line of bluebloods. It is so often the same story. The Weimar Republic dies and in comes Hitler. The Romonav dynasty is killed and the Bolsheviks take over and in the end millions of lives are snuffed out in the chaos and civil war that often follows. OK. “Relative Anarchy” is nebulous enough to be acceptable as an argument. Mass complicity, however, does not sound like anarchy, but rather it’s opposite. The human animal demands social order, and is seemingly hardwired to accept figures of authority.
Anarchy, in the classical sense, does not provide for social order.
Do I support the current social conditions in this country? No. I was once an instrument of the state, and in a city that continually seemed on the bleeding edge of anarchy. I have experienced the end game of anarchy, in a thousand small examples, and only the apex predator can truly benefit from anarchy.
Civilization, unlike Anarchy, deigns to protect the weakest of it’s members. Anarchy preys on the weak. There is nothing benign about anarchy in it’s pure form.

I’m not versed in Anarchist theory at all, but my imptession is that the best sense of the term “Anarchy” is as a description of the primordially free condition of all life and existence.
I want humanity to return more or less to the primitive tribal “anarchy” of the “pre-historical” period.
I wonder, what is the way to introduce this concept usefully to contemporary people? Is it to preach an “anarchist” philosophy? Would a philosophical conversion to anarchist philosophical position help many people figure today’s world out? Does anarchist philosophy describe an actual, practical way forward from the world we find ourselves in today to something else?
Maybe in the sense of encouraging every individual to put the highest priority on their own personal freedom, as an instigator to dissatisfaction with the many institutional slaveries of our current setup.

I was simply stating Anarchism as it actually existed in the USA & Western Europe c1870-1920. About a dozen national leaders & political figures were assassinated by Anarchists, including a US President. Bombs were detonated in Manhattan & Chicago killing many dozens of people. Other cities were not spared either. However, Anarchists specialty was mail bombs, which they sent to judges, business executives, politicians & newspaper editors. It was the terror of these mail bombs, & the Wall Street blast in 1920 that killed 40 people, that triggered the Palmer Raids and finally put an end to Anarchist depredations.

I like the Unibomber somewhat for his ideas, but not the bombings. His ideas were relatively unoriginal, but decent-enough quality anti-industrial positions. Would anyone know of Kaczynski without the bombings? No, because his philosophical ideas weren’t that groundbreaking on their own. Does this justify the bombings? Of course not. The bombings were reprehensible and pointless. They made Kaczynski famous, but also compromised any positive effect his anti-industrial ideas might have had (if better composed). Lofty ideals don’t mix with sloppy pipe-bomb tantrums that cause pointless pain and accomplish nothing but cheap fame.
Political terrorism usually fits in this unibomber mold. “Terrorism” is is political belligerance that is too puny and ineffective to qualify as actual war, I think. Tantrum-throwing. I disagree with that first sentence. Not *all* governments suffer from attracting pathological personalities. Some governments don’t have elected officials. Or didn’t used to have elected officials. That’s because they were/are monarchies that are closed off to public access. The levers of government in a true monarchy are tightly controlled and are not acessible to the average psychopath. The average lifespan of a republic is 250 years, and the USA is right up against its expiration date. The chaos and incompetence everywhere is normal in a dying republic.

No monarch ever wiped out as many of their own people as the communist dictators of the Twentieth Century, all of whom did so in the name of “the people” and “fairness”.

To tag onto the great idea above, I propose that Congress critters be required to declare their major sponsor or sponsoring coalition (ex: Lockheed, vs Defense or Big Pharma (or Israel)) as soon as they run and then be required to identify as such when they take office, rather than their state and district. I live in a place somewhat similar to Appalacia in that it’s rural, poor and relatively laid back USA. We may be in the same state. It’s nice, as choices go. I also don’t have a boss, which is great. It’s a pretty nice life, and I’m grateful.
But it’s still all a fossil-fuel illusion, the underpinnings. And even in this corner of the world, most of the things that go on, I would not consent to if I had input. Do I trust anyone around me to do more than probably not break into my house if I’m lucky? No one I don’t live with. Is there equity in this small town? No, public officials grift or squander all tbe town’s money away to contractor-buddies.
So, I don’t know. It’s hardly miserable, in some ways blissful, but the general state on offer is isolation, passivity and little agency, and this is, to me, a pretty premium place to live these days.
