And so, with the unjust killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the quest for cosmic justice resumes — that is, the justice that settles all the scores of racial grievance for all time, which, of course, is unlikely to be satisfied by any means. Mr. Floyd was killed by police officer Derek Chauvin who knelt on Mr. Floyd’s neck for eight minutes with the full force of his weight while three other officers stupidly stood by watching and failed to intervene until Mr. Floyd was dead.
This time, there was no ambiguity in the killing, unlike the 2014 shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, that sparked a season of riots. Video from a bystander’s phone shows Officer Chauvin stupidly killing Mr. Floyd. The four policemen have reportedly been fired (NBC News), but no one has been charged yet. Two days of protests and nighttime riots have commenced in that city and are now spreading to cities around the country. With Memorial Day in the rearview mirror, you might say, as the old song goes, that summer’s here and the time is right for fighting in the streets.
It appears that the Progressive Left is all for letting it rip. Their chief signaling device, The New York Times, ran this headline today: “National Guard Called as Minneapolis Erupts in Solidarity for George Floyd.”
That sounds to me a bit like a stamp-of-approval for a lawlessly violent response to an act of official stupidity. Is The Times in solidarity with the mayhem? Which raises some questions: how much rioting, looting, and arson will be enough to satisfy that sense of solidarity in the quest for justice? Three nights? Three weeks? Three months? Will it cease if and when Officer Chauvin is charged with murder or manslaughter? How much rioting, looting, and arson will the authorities in other cities allow to rip before they move to forcefully stop it? Does all this disorder amplify itself in a feedback loop as it plays out?
Those would be tough questions in ordinary times, but we’re in an extraordinary convergence of crises that includes an unresolved Covid-19 pandemic, an unprecedented economic collapse, and the furious after-effects of a failed political coup that steeped the nation in delusion, institutional breakdown, and factional enmity. Black America is not the only group in the land that has an axe to grind.
For instance, with over 30-million suddenly unemployed, facing bankruptcy one way or another, maybe even eviction and hunger, and tens of thousands of small businesses failing, what will be the public mood if the stock markets keep shooting up and up and up, as they’ve been doing for a month? Those rising share values, which enrich a tiny percentage of the public, are a direct result of the Federal Reserve inflating the national debt by “printing” money-from-thin-air. It comes in the form of bonds, the interest on which ultimately has to be paid by taxpayers. Many will not fail to notice that it smells like a scam. Will the economically floundering public revolt against it? Will they take to the streets and start burning down things other than police stations and AutoZones?
Could all that intersect with black street violence in cities across the land? A hint was suggested in cable TV video of rioters on the streets in Minneapolis hoisting a sign that said “kill all white people!” The Progressive Left has indulged and excused sentiments like that for years. (Remember New York Times editorial board hire, Sarah Jeong, tweeting “#CancelWhitePeople” and “dumbass fucking white people”?) What if those maledictions are acted out? Does the Left, including the Democratic Party, want to ignite a race war in America on top of a second great depression in a plague year?
Once cycles of violence are set in motion, they are very difficult to stop. The animosities between different groups in the USA are not so different in character from what’s been seen in other places around the world in recent times: the strife in Northern Ireland, the breakup of Yugoslavia, the civil war in Lebanon, the factional fighting in Libya, Syria, Iraq. All of them grew out of quests for cosmic justice, and all of those conflicts produced lasting damage to the societies they inflamed.
Donald Trump may appear poorly suited to presiding over such a national crackup. Many will accuse him of instigating it. Whatever he does is liable to be construed as wrong by half the nation, whether he acts decisively to put down actual insurrection, or dithers inconclusively while cities burn. His Democratic rival, Joe Biden, appears even less credibly capable of managing a crisis. He is, in fact, a Potemkin candidate for president, a stalking horse for forces and persons mysteriously awaiting emergence in Milwaukee around mid-August. It looks like some people will have to start deciding some things.

They let them burn a police station the other night. That was really dumb from our perspective but of course they have their own. Maybe they want martial law at this point.
Good point. You’re playing three dimensional chess as usual. Either way, the good news is that the short political career of the idiot mayor of Minneapolis appears to be topping out.
One can only be thankful for small mercies at this point. It’s not just Minneapolis now. Yesterday, it was reported that looters converged on Maplewood mall, way out in the suburbs. While closed, of course, it’s still holding plenty of goods. Unless they managed to hold them off, Old Navy has probably been emptied by now, and the poor nail salon will have to restock its entire supply of nail polish.Somebody has probably run off with the massage tables, and Cinnabon is closed, probably for good. I can, of course make cinnamon rolls much cheaper than the almost $6 they charge, but I don’t know what I’d do with so many cinnamon rolls. Barnes & Noble is probably still okay, unless they’ve torched the place. I live less than a mile from that site, and my mother is frightened. I wouldn’t have believed that the spark to set off all this tinder would land in staid, Minnesota nice, Minneapolis, and so early in the season, at that. The more violently they put this down, the more violently it will arise in other cities. What’s the over/under on Chicago or Detroit?
Chauvin has been arrested. I doubt at this point things will settle down so soon. It’s the weekend after all, and the clubs are still closed. It occurs to me that the cops ran out of that station so fast they probably didn’t remove all the arms they had stored. The rioters might be better armed today. I wish they’d burn down the Minneapolis Fed.
Both of my daughters live in St. Paul, the youngest only two blocks from the Target on University that was looted on Thursday. They both complain of sirens and helicopters keeping them awake all night, and they are both scared. My oldest granddaughter and my nephew live in Minneapolis, close enough to hear the flash-bangs and get the occasional whiff of tear gas if the breeze blows right. They have a ringside seat for the conflagration.
I’ve been talking with my family about getting out of town. We have a place to go that’s more than a tank of gas from a city. They agree there may soon be a need, but I’m sure they won’t consider it until it’s too late. They all have jobs and are still being paid.
I am also in the area near Robert st. in W. St. Paul. Went out this morning already with the Wif and yes the police are patrolling and some shops with boarded windows but people were doing their Covid it’s gonna be OK’ routine. Got what we needed for the coming week. No escape pod for us; on furlough from the hospital until the curve flattens more and then back to working with people in pain.
Hands4u, Our grocery delivery arrived this morning. I was relieved to get the meat. Last month I couldn’t find pork. I stock up for a month at time, always have, as that’s how I get paid. I hope you have a little extra put by in case things get more difficult.
My younger son is Vegan, and we are trying to move to a less red meat diet. He’s home from college and willing to make meals and high protein meat substitutes from scratch (which haven’t been too bad). That being said I miss grilling a nice steak every now and then. I have a few friends who left town, with their families, when the Covid became more prevalent. Many neighbors and friends staying made and donated masks to hospitals (Thank you!) Even though the masks are of limited use in of themselves; I believe they actually present the emotional desire of communities and individuals wanting to at least try to work together.

That must be corrected, immediately. And sometimes corporal punishment is the best way. Son number one broke the rules, started beating on his younger brother. You tell him to stop. Give him a warning and If he continues, he will be punished. So he keeps kicking his brother in the head, Now the time comes and you need to give him the belt. It hurts the father as well as hurting the child.

As we run around the world condemning this one or that one, for what ever it seems we are no better then they,we live a failed state as all indicators make very clear where the system caters to one class only.

Nothing seems to have changed in the more extreme predilections of our most corrosive black culture…The 1960’s found the same sentiment evident.
I will be questioned, and impugned for this comment…riots must be met with an iron fist…there are few noble, rational people in a riotous crowd. Pleas go unanswered. Common sense rarely evident. Apologies ALWAYS breed more, and usually more extreme, violence.

Thought it has been tried in the past, Janos, most notably by Pope Stephen VI. He dug up a predecessor and tried him before the Roman curia in the Basilica of St. John’s for crimes nobody cared about anymore. Even then, it was generally considered in poor taste to prosecute a corpse in propria persona.
During the Spanish Revolution, Priests and Nuns were executed then dug up weeks later and displayed with obscene signs.
Interesting. However, they weren’t subjected to a show trial were they? I believe that on the guilty verdict, Stephen Vi sentenced Pope Formosus to the loss of a hand, which I doubt inconvenienced Formosus at all. I think Stephen VI had him then thrown into the Tiber.
No trial for the most part. Guilty of being Christian. Just as we are guilty of being White. You’ll get it later rather than sooner. I knew a family from South Africa: the Grand Dame never got it. I saw several YouTube videos of the bands of protestors, youths and one positive aspect of the Target store videos where, that many of those folks were wearing masks. The grievances are real, but I feel the political class both right and left( I think same The Man runs them both) have other agendas or distractions to maneuver. When I was pole vaulting in high school you had to clear the bar AND land on your feet in the sawdust pit but in college we had an air mattress and a big fan so you landed spread eagled on your back. If you turned off the fan it would take only a few seconds to leak out enough air to make a painful landing. Our economy is not composed of those trained to land on their feet. We have a fire hose of money creation to keep everything inflated but the widening hole of 40 million people asking for unemployment support suggests a painful landing despite the fan.
While I find the murder, and that’s what it was, of George Floyd to be reprehensible, and sure hope to see the police officers involved charged with the crime, I find the knee-jerk response of outrage in the black community to be puzzling. Why do they only get upset if a cop or non-black person kills a black person but they don’t seem too bothered by the zillions of blacks killed daily at the hands of other blacks? Nearly all blacks murdered are killed by fellow blacks, not whites, Asians, cops etc. So why only the outrage for what are essentially outlier killings?
And why does the NYT and its ilk not point this out? And why the tacit approval of the violent protests as you note?
For that matter, why don’t liberal or MSM refrain from using the “Karen meme” to denote white women? Why is this ok? Would it be ok to use “Latoya” or “LaWanda” or “Latisha” etc as shorthand for black women acting a certain way? I think not. Why is it only ok if it’s applied to white women? And why do liberal publications not see the damage that will occur by their fanning of the flames?

Mountain gal, I would suggest that people take someone being killed by a police officer rather differently than they do a killing by another citizen, whatever that citizen’s race.
With great power comes great responsibility, as they say, and police are entrusted with the power to take life as part of their job. The issue is that many, many people perceive the police to be misusing that power, and that the misuse is targeted by race. That’s why comparing it against ‘black-on-black crime’ feels like a false dichotomy.
True, But they focus on it to the almost exclusion of their own internal problems. Thus we’re their scapegoats, the Devil in their System of Thought or Theology. As we are in the Liberal System. Thus the alliance remains strong. You continue to remain willing to sacrifice other Urban Liberals to Black savagery in order to maintain the alliance. Why is it a “non-issue”? 2015 crime stats; blacks killed by whites- 2%, blacks killed by police- 1%, blacks killed by blacks- 97%. Yet all we ever hear of for protests/riots are the few instances when a black is killed by a white or a cop. And in no way am I forgiving unnecessary violence by cops on anyone. But still, all the protests the other day about the white father/son duo who killed the black jogger, all the news articles, etc. Was it terrible and racist? Well yes. But again, 97% of blacks are killed by other blacks and crickets………….a non-issue as you say…….must be….
The reason is that black perps generally get caught and generally get dealt with by the law. Whites who kill blacks, most especially white cops, are exonerated of the worst charges in a disturbingly large percentage of cases.
Because then they would have to take a look at themselves and their culture.

I am going to attempt to explain the reaction that people are seeing from my point of view of a black male that has lived some 60 years. I may need to offer a trigger alert, this will not be a popular post. I believe that an event like this was planned, not this particular event, but the dynamics fit the bill. The democrats (which I am a former member) knew they needed to do SOMETHING, ANYTHING to hinder the progress, perceived or otherwise of Donald Trump being reelected. They know that quite a few blacks are leaving the democratic party, and the one tried and true tactic that they use is around the time of major national elections is “all of the sudden”, police brutality is showcased on the MSM to show how racist the Republican party is and that the Democrats are the only party that will shield you from the dangerous racism you are subjected to every day. This is an appeal to EMOTIONS and FEELINGS. These two traits are primarily FEMALE in nature (I didn’t say exclusive, I said primarily). I would like you to ponder this next statement. A majority of the federal assistance that has gone to the black community in the past 50-60 years has primarily has gone to FEMALE headed households. In order to avail yourself to any assistance the federal government had to offer, THE MAN had to be excluded from the family unit. Black females took advantage of that assistance, because in most cases, the support was more stable and more lucrative than what the man could earn, in fact they were rewarded in many cases for fostering and increasing this family dysfunction. This attitude and way of thinking has been passed down from mother to daughter for generations, a man is only required to be a sperm donor after that, his participation in the family unit has been actively DISCOURAGED (although not his financial support). There was no one in the house that provided a FUNCTIONAL MALE role model that the boys could learn from on how to navigate the world as a MAN. There was no one in the home that provided discipline, self restraint, delayed gratification, applied logic to problems, fostered self reliance and independent thought. No MALE was there to teach the importance of emotional intelligence and continuous personal improvement. Since most black males are raised in female headed households, they only have a female to pattern their behavior after, since the girls have no functional, consistent MALE in order to model what a good man looks like, all she knows is dysfunctional men and that what she will continue to chose as a partner. We have thousands of years of evidence that there has NEVER been a successful matriarchy for any length of time. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan was 100% right decades ago, he warned about the behavior you are witnessing on your TV screens right now. The police should be prosecuted, but why burn your own communities down, that’s illogical but typical of black FEMALE modeled behavior that has been allowed for several generations.

I don’t think it is the style of the D.N.C. to foment race riots though others are taking advantage of the situation. Count on that.

I’m quite sure that if you look up the demographics of those areas, you could see that they are are not the nicer areas of those regions of the country, they are as a whole quite dysfunctional and quite dangerous. What I stated above is my take of years of casual observation into the life of my neighbors and my relatives. I was lucky, the military, some good paying jobs and an education helped me escape most of the dysfunction I have observed over the years. Just my take on the situation at hand.

I have been to Chicago and I grew up in Minneapolis. Harvey is to Chicago what 38th Street and Chicago Ave, where the choking happened, is to Minneapolis. I can’t say I know about the area much because I was from the north end. Fridley to be specific. The MLPS St. Paul airport is on the south end of town which was the only thing that area had which I could not find closer. But the way our family got to the airport was by driving around the city and not through it. The north end equivalent was Columbia Heights which had a lot of Polacks who were very friendly.
When MLK was shot I marched with my fathers church throught the area. All the churches marched the Sunday after he was shot for peace and all the good stuff. Maybe it was closer to downtown. It was a long time ago.
There is much truth in what you wrote. We are all actors on a stage and we do well to withdraw to try and see what the cosmic audience sees. We would see that we are given many models to follow, good and bad and we follow them all. That is what people do. You see that too.

I mostly agree with what you have to say other than labeling certain behaviors as “female”. I fail to see why burning down the AutoZone store is a “female” behavior.That said, yes indeed, our system of providing benefits to families provided there is no man in residence is imo directly responsible for the disintegration of the black family and the resultant weak matriarchal family structure. Children need strong men in their lives who love their mothers, them and provide good role models. So much of what has gone wrong in black family culture I attribute to the totally misguided use of welfare funds which effectively banished black men from their family’s lives.
Where do we go from here? How do we fix this? I have no idea. It’s a horror really. Something upwards of 70% of black babies are now born to single mothers. Yes, Moynihan was crucified for what he said but he was 100% correct in his cautionary message.

The cop knew he was killing the man or bringing him to the point of death. When a person kills or attempts to kill another person and the evidence clearly shows it, they’re a murderer. With all due respect to JHK. The autopsy report has not come back so the exact cause of death has not been verified. The D.A for Minneapolis has said other evidence indicates that there is no basis for a criminal charge against the police officers. I think that other evidence is the autopsy report. I would also like to point out that the leaning on the neck is established police procedure. One sees it on Live P.D all the time. I believe the Police Officer knew exactly how much pressure he was putting on Mr. Floyds neck.
Mr. Floyd was ” Awfully Drunk and out of control ” These are the words of the store owner who called the police. Mr. Floyd had a long prison record. He was in Minneapolis to make a new start after being released from prison in Texas where he served time after being convicted of armed robbery . I do not disagree with Jim’s concerns or with the preponderance of today’s comments, but it is also true that there is a real issue causing incidents of this sort, and a solution is not hard to identify. As things stand, many cops who have gotten into their profession in the first place for the wrong reasons have gotten the message from TV, movies, and news reports, that it’s a not-unusual thing for a police officer to kill a citizen, that the citizen probably did something wrong, after all, and that the system will side with the cop. Every police chief in America should assemble their crew and announce the following: “If the actions of anyone in this room ever result in the death of a single citizen, regardless of the circumstances, the incident with be scrutinized with a microscope and there will be no presumption of police innocence until it is established that every detail of the arrest went exactly by the book. If you kill a citizen and your professional behavior was not above reproach, then you will not find me in your corner.” Don’t like this message? Okay – then watch your city burn.

I have a new theory to explain the curious behavior of officer Derek Chauvin.
But before I get to it I have an observation to ask about. In all the video of the event I have viewed, George Floyd is either standing up, or face down on the ground; where is the video of him being taken down to the ground, because I have not seen it?
Does it exist?
Was it cut from the original video in order to give the appearance he did not resist arrest?
Did he resist arrest?
Or did he collapse/fall to the ground?
Anyway my theory on Chauvin’s behavior is,
he got caught up in a grudge match of sorts with the “civilians” witnessing the arrest, and the more they asked Chauvin to ease up on Floyd, the more Chauvin resisted doing so; to the extent that Floyd became a type of prop of sorts in a grudge match between two groups of people, the arresting officers VS the witnessing civilians.
The more the civilians ask/told Chauvin to get off him, the more entrenched Chauvin became in his “you don’t tell me how to do my fucking job, I’ll show you…!”
Chauvin got so caught up in this grudge match that he killed a man without really intending to?
His intent was to demonstrate his power and authority, not to Floyd, but to the black people watching the arrest, as a warning to them: “see, look what our blue gang can do. We run these streets and don’t you fucking forget it… (cough, niggers)”
Unfortunately, in the process, he forgot that the man he pinned to the ground with a knee on his neck, who was formerly gasping for air and crying out for his mama, had gone strangely silent and limp.
So,
according to my theory, if this arrest had taken place away from witnesses, George Floyd might be alive today? Because the death of George Floyd may have had nothing to do with George Floyd, and EVERYTHING to do with “sending messages” to the people witnessing it?
Finally, regarding the charge of attempting to use a counterfeit $20 bill?
Well, unless it was really obvious, its not really a crime to be in possession of a counterfeit $20 bill. I don’t study every federal reserve note I get, and even if I did, Im not sure I could tell the difference VISUALLY, since they make changes all the time?

I prefer evidence-based medicine.rather than shooting off my mouth either for or against specific treatments. We are all aware of environmental harms that make some treatments necessary in the first place. But you have still to explain why the ancient Egyptians nevertheless experienced cancer.
Aspirin is merely acetylsalicylic acid. And medicines derived from from willow and other salicylate-rich plants were known as long ago as Ancient Egypt and Sumeria. The trick with the pharma industry, as with modern medicine, is to use it when necessary and when scientific evidence proves its worth, and stay away from it at other times when it purports to give you things it claims you need but for which there is little evidence of any real value (like statins).

We happened to see the video of the incident in question. My husband’s immediate observation was ‘that’s murder’ based on the video footage shown. I have personally said nothing about it on this site. Enough people on here think they know what’s going on and it’s not my country (nor is it yours, yet your presumptions are not timid), so I choose not to add my pointless comment to the fray.
If I were to see footage showing the man had been resisting arrest to the point where nothing could be done to contain him other than an officer of the law holding his foot on his neck, I’d give that consideration. But I haven’t. So, as you should have noted, I said nothing on the matter and will not. I merely commented on other matters that seemed strange, i.e. (a) that a person with your ideologies and certainties should so strangely fear death and the sight of death (and yet you must have seen your own mother), and (b) that you should make opportunistic use of a service you hold in contempt.
