“Eugyppius” is a former academic who blogs about the pandemic aftermath and the pathological politics of modern Germany. He spent much of his life abroad and over a decade in American universities as a grad student and a teacher. He writes in English on Substack. He is very careful about revealing more of his identity given the extreme censorship and cancellation action in his country these days. You can find him at Eugyppius.com.

I really enjoyed this interview, particularly the guest’s comments about the ‘high- low alliance’ and the middle class being left out because they have agency over their affairs and future, but playing straight into the hands of the political authorities for fear of being labeled bigots or worse. This is the weaponization of empathy, of course. Surprised also to hear the German public buying into the theories that either the Russians blew up Nordstream 2 or that it was ‘the gang that couldn’t shoot straight’, a.k.a. the Ukrainians. The first casualty of war is always the truth, and why would it be different in Germany? He did hit on a rather salient point when he expressed the hope that when the war is finally over energy would again be available from Russia to restart the German industrial engine and heat homes. It will be over when Odesa becomes Russian territory and when the West agrees to the rump state borders and admits defeat, possibly at the expense of both NATO and the EU. Russia has turned its back on the West. And they will hold war crime tribuanals in Maripul and hang the West’s dirty laundry out to dry. 58,220 Americans in Vietman, but 90,000 in the Ukrainian spring offensive alone. Total KIA estimated more than 450,000 on the Ukrainian side. History will judge the hubris, hegemony and arrogance of the West very harshly.

Well-stated, Snagglepuss. “Weaponization of empathy”…I like that description. The arrogance of Amerika is palpable and Trump and Biden increasingly represent the right and left extremes. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. I hope Night Owl reads and comments on this as I believe he lives in Germany.

    JHK,
I hope you will read this – I am always impressed by your diligence.

I have some criticism that will hopefully be taken the way I intended.

I noticed recently that you stopped asking questions and this interview is a perfect example of this problem.

I stopped following Eugyppius because for a historian he is an incredibly shallow commentator. He never tries to understand the deeper causes, just keeps going on with superficial psychobabble.

Here is the best example I can think of: in the interview he mentions that the pandemicists somehow (!) got a lot of money and infested a lot of govts and international institutions.

Any normal person would have immediately jumped into this wondering why did this happen – is it a plan, who are the conspirators. Instead you both glibly went on mumbling (“jacobins”, “people got invested” etc).

Btw, that was the only time in the interview where corruption money was mentioned – it’s like you guys came straight from “It’s a wonderful life”. Nobody can be that naive.

I think you should try taking a lesson from hard sciences. No matter what problem you attack, you always keep in mind the fundamentals (Energy and Entropy).
I suggest you do the same – it doesn’t matter what the conversation is about, you should always wonder: is this a statistical artifact (large number of people behaving like sheep) or is this a conspiracy (if you had a trillion dollars, what would you do?)
