Daniel Klein is professor of economics and JIN Chair at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, where he leads a program on Adam Smith. He is the author of Smithian Morals and Central Notions of Smithian Liberalism. I admired his widely-read 2023 essay “Misinformation Is a Word We Use to Shut You Up,” which has been posted by Brownstone Institute, Independent Institute, Zero Hedge, and other websites.

The KunstlerCast theme music is the beautiful Two Rivers Waltz written and performed by Larry Unger.

“leftists” are definitely not liberals. I call them leftards because to me they are obviously left (off the reservation left) and retarded. I love the reference to the “left pole”. I will use that.

This one didn’t do much for me…not much new ground broken here. A lot of mutual back-slapping and Daniel Klein comes across as an arrogant sob.

What are these strange droplet noises I’m hearing during this podcast?

Jim, I wish you would upgrade your audio. The booming volume at the start of every utterance is unnecessary. I don’t know the specifics, but I’m sure there are mics or filters or a screen that would prevent this high volume ‘booming.’ The podcast content is worth the investment.

Ok, so here’s the deal regarding exuse- making for innocent self delusion and the ‘difficult’ recovery towards self introspection for said persons. Crackheads recover in 12 step programs every day. Oh the horror of facing one’s own past thinking and self delusion…how could that be explained away at cocktail parties and Academic mixers!?
Give me a break. That’s ironic clasist double speak for we’re better than crackheads.
Btw Cornell University grad with street cred – so I know both worlds – deception, fraud, law breaking, and cohersion – are identical when acted upon. Both of your last guests step lightly on this with a very Academic tone, which hey, Tenure is a bitch to get & keep at any University these days.
This is the mealy mouthed hypocritical left insanity I walked away from after 3+ decades of NE leftist programing.

Love your guest’s description of how the terminology of Liberalism has become so twisted.

Look no further than the planning department over at the CIA / MI6 sources to see who wants their colony back and who within this country is up for that plan. And that requires the constant consistent one-voice pattern language.

Toynbee and Spengler called it, both covering the decline for Western Civ. Into the Senile Minority.

It’s always a kick to listen (and tolerably often partake) in conversations swimming in hopes of finding, then sorting out, and somehow stoping the wages of sin.
Patterns always repeat with slight variations of players outward appearances.
    Greetings to all fellow inmates!

[…] AGELESS WISDOM: Adam Smith at 300. Some of the smartest scholars and liveliest writers on Adam Smith will be convening to celebrate the 300th anniversary of his birth. The conference, at the Union League Club in New York City on September 13th, is open to the public, with tickets at $75 apiece. Dan Klein, Anne Bradley, Dominic Pino, and David Bahnsen will be discussing The Wealth of Nations, The Theory of Moral Sentiments, and more from the father of modern economics. For a sample of Klein’s thoughts, here’s a podcast of him being interviewed by James Howard Kunstler on the viciousness of left-wing politics — what Klein calls “lefpotism.”  […]
