I’m sure you can see exactly where all this is going. By all this, I refer to the cortège of disasters orchestrated by “Joe Biden” and associates — with help from a power-crazed globalist cabal — hauling our country at a gallop now to the graveyard of empires. Is there any question that they are out to wreck Western Civ? And speeding up the action because too many actual citizens are rising to oppose their degenerate wickedness?
Most particularly, the people who have not surrendered their reason to the Woke-Marxist mind-fuck that calls itself “progressivism” have had enough of the purposeful inflow of something like ten-thousand fake asylum-seekers a day across the border, mostly men, a lot of them from China, and many more of them mutts from faraway lands where Jihad is the order of the day — meaning the crusade to exterminate the people of Western Civ. We’re supposed to be okay with that.
This deliberate, treasonous policy was rightfully declared an “invasion” last week by the Governor of Texas, requiring the human wave to be met with real force, not the welcome wagon that the federal border patrol has been turned into. The result so far is a real-live Mexican stand-off between the regime in Washington and the state of Texas, joined by twenty-five other sympathetic US states willing to send men and matériel to seal the border.
None of this is reported in Monday morning’s New York Times, by the way, though you can read Is Dying Your Hair Bad for Your Health there. Nor will you read about the caravan of American truckers striking out from all points around the country to “peacefully protest and pray” at the border while Texas attempts to settle its hash with “Joe Biden.” Nor will you read about the uprising of European farmers blocking highways to protest ruinous EU rules on food imports, diesel fuel prices, carbon emissions inanity, and, of course, the officially-enabled tide of Africans and jihadists flooding into EU member states.
“Joe Biden’s” response so far is to say he’ll attend to the border situation only if Congress green-lights another massive aid package for Ukraine, a dishonest proffer from any angle. Ukraine is a lost cause that should never have been a cause of ours in the first place. Yet securing the US border is a principal duty of the executive branch, not some optional fringe benefit to be used as leverage for other projects. Congress has already got impeachment articles ready for Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas, who has lied repeatedly under oath about the border being “secure.” But it’s obviously not enough. The failure is entirely “Joe Biden’s” and warrants his impeachment on its face, aside from all the evidence of bribery and racketeering among him and his family.
The best move would be to impeach both the president and his proclaimed “border czar” Veep Kamala Harris — which would put Speaker Mike Johnson in the oval office. But the impeachment process is too slow and awkward for that. So, now I will tell you where all this is actually going: “Joe Biden” will seize an excuse to declare a national emergency and subject the US to some manner of martial law.
The excuse could be an outbreak of violence in the quarrel between the states and the feds over the border. Or it could be a widening of the war in the Middle East, a direct confrontation with Iran that would draw in Russia and Turkey and kickoff World War Three, a war we would have an excellent shot at losing, considering our DEI-ravaged, over-vaxxed army, our obsolete naval carrier groups that can be sunk by hypersonic missiles, and our depleted reserves of armaments already fobbed off by Ukraine and, lately, given to Israel in the Gaza campaign to destroy Hamas. If such a war didn’t set off a world-ending exchange of nukes, it would at least collapse the economies of Europe and America and, with that, many governments, including possibly ours. And what role might all those recently-arrived illegal aliens play in such a fiasco? Any way you cut it, we’d be in for chaos and hardship.
Or, if we somehow avert major war, “Joe Biden” can try the national emergency ploy when the much-heralded (by the WHO) “Disease X” trots onstage. (And we must ask whether that will just be a delayed side-effect of the mRNA vaccine deaths?) Ultimately, the purpose of any national emergency at this moment in history, whatever prompts it, will be to suspend the 2024 elections. The Democratic Party has gone so completely off-the-rails psychologically that it will do anything to avert losing control of the government.
The Lawfare cases aimed at knocking Donald Trump off the game-board were assigned to corrupt and stupid prosecutors who are botching their jobs in perfect sequence. They are already baking the cake for Fani Willis’s farewell office party in Georgia, and Jack Smith is being undermined daily by the emergent truth about government’s role in fomenting the J6 riot. The ridiculous judgment rendered last week in the E. Jean Carroll defamation charade, is certain to be reversed on appeal. Note the assembled tweets below attributed to Ms. Carroll’s “X” account and draw your own conclusions about her character, especially her sexual proclivities. (By the way, Judge Lewis Kaplan ruled them inadmissible as evidence for Mr. Trump’s defense.)
Now, where the next national emergency or some kind of martial law is concerned, the catch is that at least half of America will refuse to comply with diktats coming out of Blob Central. They’ve had enough trips laid on them. The government has been flirting dangerously with the loss of legitimacy as the disastrous “Joe Biden” term grinds on, but this would really ice it. Whatever other tragic consequences follow, it would be the end of our constitutional republic, and history will install “Joe Biden” in the Hall of Infamy as the man who killed it.

Yes. I think we are witnessing a further “drifting away” of liberty minded states in lieu of the actions of a federal government.

Yes. I was reading this morning that the US Navy is off by 6,000 recruits for 2023. Their new change in recruiting is to accept people without a GED or high school diploma, and who score a 50 (our of 99) on their qualification test.
This is mirrored by the rest of the US military.

The democrat party is simply an arm of the Deep State. This permanent security state in the US will not lose control of power humbly. There will be a terrible reckoning in the US before this occurs. I don’t think it will take much to push the West into an all-out war with Iran. The mullahs in Tehran look like they have a death wish and are doing everything they can to provoke a wider war in the Middle East The latest news that Iranian proxies have launched drone attacks on an American military base in Jordan which killed 3 and injured 25 are a good example of the kind of terror Iran has planned for the West, I agree with Alan Dershowitz that America has been too timid in its’ dealings with Iran. They’ve been using their proxies to provoke America and its’ allies beginning with the October 7 attacks on Israel. They are counting on our reluctance to engage them directly and the backing of their masters in Moscow because they have nothing to lose at this point. Iran’s economy is a disaster, the regime’s heavy-handedness has given way to backlash from its’ own citizens and Joe Biden’s lack of leadership are all good reasons to turn up the heat on us.

Uncle Bob, I’d say a lot of Iran’s animosity against the US is due to the fact that we overthrew Mossadegh and installed the oppressive Shah, who held power for the next 26 years, and then, once Khomeini took power in ’79, we resumed fucking with Iran and have never stopped. The US also unquestioningly supports Israel, a major thorn in the side of the Muslim world.
The US’ animosity toward Iran is due to the fact that they resist becoming one of our puppets.

A nuclear armed Iran will spark an arms race in a region of crazy people baked in 130 degree heat.
In 1968 the US Department of Defense at the request of the government drafted a civil disturbance plan called ‘Operation Garden Plot’ which outlined what was essentially a martial law response to large scale social breakdown.
One of the main factors listed in the plan as a trigger for martial law was the uncontrolled mass migration of minorities into the US, as well as riots by minorities in light of economic uncertainty.
Garden Plot has provisions designed to install a long lasting domestic military presence in the US if deemed necessary, and was even tied to programs like REX 84 which planned out the installation of “FEMA camps” or detention facilities meant to hold large numbers refugees during a mass migration crisis. These programs were accidentally exposed during the Iran/Contra hearings of 1987 and were kept secret from a majority of representatives in Congress.
In other words, political elites designed a set of operations to swiftly impose martial law if a migrant disaster occurred. But were these measures meant to solve the crisis? Or were they meant to use the crisis as an excuse to put boots on the ground in the US and permanently end whatever constitutional protections we have left? That is to say, it may very well be the plan of the establishment to keep the borders open until illegals overwhelm the system and the public is willing to accept martial law.
I was yelling about the president invoking FEMA over a cold virus. That agency should not exist and it isn’t what people think it is.
If you look closely, you can see how President Trump was led by the MSM into an overblown response to a “crisis”, by labeling each and every storm or what have you as a test of his mettle, his “Katrina”.
98% of the Federal Government should not exist.
But hey, the “commerce clause” and the “welfare clause.”
The Constitution can exist only with a moral people. Boy did our forefathers screw that over.

I was watching the Iran-Contra cover-up hearings when Jack Brooks brought up Rex 84.
I got the Mercury News, a Knight Ridder paper, so I had already read their expose of the criminal Oliver North and his plans. But the rest of the country that didn’t get those papers obviously didn’t know about it, and back then we had no social media to spread the news horizontally.
Daniel Inouye, the chair, slammed down his gavel and yelled that the topic must not be brought up in open session. Then he dismissed the hearing. This was a Friday afternoon.
On Monday they reopened the sham hearings with nothing mentioned about the FEMA camps.

Has anyone here actually DRIVEN through the American desert southwest? I have. While some of the scenery is spectacular the region is sports some of the poorest land in the country and water scarcity out there just gets worse all of the time. If NM, AZ, NV, and Southern Cali all go back to Mexico we will have gotten the best part of that deal.

Wizard, I am a native of Arizona now residing in Utah. I am very familiar with what you speak. The truth is, Utah, Colorado and Wyoming produce nearly all of the water that feeds the Colorado River which Arizona, southern Nevada and southern California thrive off. Pheonix is a City that, by all common sense should not exist. Too many people living in a place that can sustain that many people. Same goes for Las Vegas and Tucson.
Why would any White teenager enlist in the US Army` He’s heard since Day 1 in public schools what a lousy, imperialist, unfair, racist, homophobic country this is, and due to his white skin privilege ~ it’s his fault! My company’s clinics have done contract work with the US Army Medical Command for about a dozen+ years, doing fitness for duty exams (mental and physical) for recruits and questionable GIs. They would send in kids who had 10 or 15 traffic tickets, those with a history of being on psychotropic agents, etc. For the past year, the MEPs recruiting office now tells my office manager that they are letting in anyone they can get, without evaluations, and regardless of psychiatric status and even some physical issues. WHEN we go to war, image a bunch of ADD or schizoaffective blue hairs with ACDC tattoos doing the battle.
Well, the bright side of this development is that the next useless foreign war will rid out society of some pretty sketchy characters instead of killing and maiming thousands of clean-cut, intelligent, patriotic, God-fearing kids from the rural areas of Red State America.
There is a lot to be said for that.
The more blue hair and tats and piercings and drug use the faster they should take them in and give them just enough training to make them deployable and then off they go to a beautiful garden spot like Syria or Somalia to spread the good news about DEI and gender fluidity!
My son has a HS buddy who enlisted in the army in 2020. When I asked why he would want to do so, my son replied, “He just wants to fight. Doesn’t matter who.”

It’s so hard to get your head around it, but yes, it IS intentional. Do we have the courage to believe our own eyes?

I agree with JHK on this one. Once the government loses the confidence of the governed it no longer has any authority. It becomes an illegitimate government. The government derives it authority from the governed and once the governed lose confidence in the government it no longer has any authority to govern. We are at this stage. Half of America (I believe it is more) no longer put any credence into what the federal government requires. When this happens the federal government, in order to gain compliance by the governed, resorts to coercion and force to obtain obedience from the governed. This of course creates more discord and anger in the governed and results in open rebellion against the government.
We are witnessing a death spiral of the American government system. We are in the coercion phase of its death. This is an incredibly dangerous time for us. Like a cornered raccoon this dying federal government, desperate to maintain its authority and legitimacy but unwilling to listen to its people, will fight tooth and nail to maintain all of its power.
I truly fear what is coming. I’m as prepares as I can be but I am a slave to this system that was foisted upon me by my parents and their parents and their parents. All I can do at this point is load my guns and wait for the inevitable.

It is also very dangerous when people begin to conclude that they have nothing left to lose, so…why not? Why not just go down fighting? And that’s what I’ve been preaching regarding the wait for “having nothing left to lose”. We always hear “someone” has to do something. But never hear “I’m” gonna do something. All those assholes looting and burning cities down have nothing to lose because they have neither skin in the game nor dog in the fight. So why not, tear it all down. Besides it’s fun. We, those that DO have something still to lose, still have pensions to realize, employment, property, debt, bills, retirement accounts we’ve responsibly scrapped together, etc. When our side has had the preponderance of what we have taken from us then maybe you’ll hear more of “I’m gonna do something”. And regarding any kind of a shooting civil war?…please. Ain’t gonna happin. Aside from some “Army of One” nut cases with an armory and 100k rounds of ammo, the rest of us have a pistol and or AR with enough rounds to get someone’s attention. But when the call goes out, like in video games, to !RELOAD! good luck with that. Any and all sources of resupply will have been shut down tight. And unlike Viet Nam, there will be no Russia or China supplying us and there also will be no Ho Chi Minh Trail.

My wife is a social worker and for the past 6 weeks, she has been alone in the office, with only sporadic temporary relief.

Tell you a true story. Returning to home port from West PAC in 1972, There were so many drugs on the ship that the Captain created amnesty barrels, two full size trash cans. Throw your drugs in there and there would be no penalties. They were scared to death of the inspection that would be done. Result, two full trash cans of just about everything and no problem with the inspection. They even raised grates in the bilges, a favorite hiding place.

You make the mistake of believing Lincoln’s rhetoric. He would have been even harsher. Lee is supposed to have said, years later, that if he had understood the true character of the Yankees at the time, he would have fought to the last man.
I was raised believing Lincoln to be a God anointed President who saved this great union. However, as I have studied the Constitution of the past and the compromises between the Federalists and the States’ Rights people it has become very clear to me that Lincoln was a fascist who overthrew the Constitution of 1788. He destroyed the original compromises that existed and changed the nature of our Country. No longer was the USA a union of sovereign states. It was now a sovereign union with multiple administrative jurisdictions. Lincoln created the leviathan.
Lincoln also abrogated many war time agreements and authorized his generals, namely Sherman, to terrorize, rape, kill, plunder and rob innocent civilians. Lincoln didn’t wage war on the southern states because of slavery. He didn’t wage war on them because the seceded. The real reason he waged war on the southern states was because of money. Half the federal budget was going away when the southern states left. War is always about money. ALWAYS!
Lincoln got the justice he deserved and I anticipate that he is still rotting in hell somewhere in the eternal darkness.

For all of us students who’d read Upton Sinclair’s 1905 published novel “The Jungle”, Keller had to lead us to connect how Harriot Beecher Stow’s 1852 published “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” was really a virtue signal (not his label) of its time that gave cover to the fact that in the industrializing north the land-dispossessed poor and uneducated flood of immigrants out of Europe suffered conditions often worse than what Negros suffered in the south because in the South (as characterized by Margarette Mitchell’s “Gone With the Wind” and Samuel Clemmen’s writings) the 3-4 generations relationship between owner/slave families was commonly more similar to kindred, explaining why “chattel” were often better clothed, housed and fed than poor White’s off the plantation.
Tolstoy (who liked to dress up theatrically as proletariat to work in the fields with them), as with all of titled families in Europe, could expel commoners who’d occupied the acreage for centuries.
A century without plague resulted in swelled European population crowding into cities like described by Dickens in his 1847 book “A Christmas Carol” (the last paragraph of the book describes the transformed Scrooge “….as good a master as one could want”).

Emphatically, a clarion rebuke to Lincoln’s meretricious excuse for invading and destroying the South’s agricultural culture, an atrocity carried out with an army of which a great proportion comprised newly arrived European poor who’d been lured {recruited} by issue of desperately needed clothes (uniform) and avoidance of starvation. If Lincoln hadn’t opted for war to prevent the South’s secession there’d likely be no Lincoln Memorial.
Stowe’s book was written and first published in her hometown of Cincinnati, terminus of the “underground railroad”. A little understanding of how the owner/manager class of the industrializing North was using the flood of Negros from the South to break unionizing efforts lends understanding of why two of the largest pre-Civil War riots against the “Road to Freedom” occurred in Cincinnati.
The expression “Wage Slave” is credited to the American writer and associate of Sinclair, Jack London, but in actuality it was coined by Southern Plantation owners pre-Civil War, horrified in witness to the horrible working conditions that Sinclair was decrying in the next century.
As history repeatedly shows, selective strands pulled from the dense fabric of history allow demagogues to build a “narrative” justifying concentration of power. The French and Russian revolutions most particularly illustrate how the wobble can stabilize to extreme of “left” or “right” — even alternatively if history’s lessons aren’t headed or get “Cancelled”.

As I wrote here several months ago, Lincoln got us into the Late Unpleasantness in order to save the asses of the northern bankers and industrialists who put him into office. If the Confederate State of America had succeeded, northern businesses would’ve held a ton of worthless paper against southerners and their property (including slaves).
One of my favorite undergrad profs marvelled at how masterfully Lincoln maneuvered the South into firing on US assets, first with the Star of the West incident, then with the bombardment of Fort Sumter. However, if Reagan had done similar things to what Lincoln did, that prof most likely would’ve led protests against Reagan’s warmongering.
What galls me is that you can’t explain anything to anyone about the Civil War era now without fear of reprisal. In the ’80s and early ’90s, people would listen as one explained that, for the first two years of the war, it was pitched as a fight to save the Union. After Lincoln came up with the idea to blame southerners for slavery, thereby shifting the blame for some of that atrocity off the shoulders of his financiers, it became the war to free the slaves AND save the union. And of course, now, if you say there was any reason for the war other than slavery, your reputation is ruined by [pick a socialist academic or politician], all the way over the Glenn Beck. How does one speak the truth, when doing so results in ruin? While I deeply regret not getting my PhD in history, there are scads of people with degrees specializing in mid-19th century American history who can’t teach at the collegiate level because there are only so many jobs to go around. Plus, as a non-Jacobin, I likely would’ve been hounded out of the profession years ago. He either would have been pushed into a harder Reconstruction by the Radicals in Congress or impeached and replaced. I’m a born and bred Northerner from a very liberal state. However, over the last several years I’ve come to realize that America should never had been one country. North and South have always been two different societies. They could have gotten along well, as they have the same heritage and speak the same language.
My guess is that the FF were very afraid of England, which was the number one power at that time, and felt they needed to unite to maintain their own power. A bad decision, it turned out, but understandable – safety in numbers.

We’re about to see a replay of an asymmetric split wherein the blue states will be short on food and energy unlike the red states. Google and Look at any of the recent maps of the, now 25, states that are in support of Texas. A major difference this time is that the red states are highly armed and trained from childhood, and multiple surveys show that the vast majority of army, marines and navy support red state politics (i.e. patriots and constitutionalists). There are multiple reports from several red state AGs that colonels from the military services are contacting them showing support and asking for legal advice about joining the red coalition.
Plus, as I have pointed out in a prior JHK blog, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, recently said publicly that, if needed, they will supply heavy weaponry to Texas and the other red coalition states. R Montari, if you are referring to the income tax, you are correct. The income tax was not instituted until the early 1900s under the Woodrow Wilson administration I believe. Still, the South was taking with it a lot of federal funding and it had to be stopped to keep Federal coffers flush with revenue.

Bean- The Constitution was not necessarily a document created out of a sense of fear of England. It was a coup on the Articles of Confederation by a bunch of land speculators. It was a good way to get rid of a bunch of debt too.
Bill – That was a very sensible and correct assessment. The North and South were too different to survive as a single country. If the South had been allowed to go in peace in 1861 it would have benefitted pretty much everyone all around immensely.
Slavery still would have ended – most likely by the 1890’s, if not sooner, in the Confederate States. The United States most likely would have prohibited the immigration of blacks from Dixie, so the South would either have had to repatriate them to Mother Africa or maintain a segregated society for perpetuity to prevent the destruction of the Southern Confederacy’s culture and national strength.
Over time, I think many blacks would have opted to emigrate out of the CSA to any countries who would take them. This would have left both the USA and the CSA far stronger and healthier as nation states once North America was free of Africans who simply never could fully assimilate or compete in white society.

I don’t think armed individuals or even militias would have much effect. Who do you shoot at? There will be no “blue helmets”. A more likely and effective avenue would be to look to our state governments to oppose the Federal Vampire Squid. Would it be another “war of secession” like the last one or a genuine civil war in which the rebellious states sought to wrest control of the central governing apparatus from the true traitors?
If and when they get their intentional collapse, by whatever means, it will not be localized or geographically isolated – think grid or financial – in that instance, armed individuals and militias will be necessary and invaluable locally, and folks should plan accordingly. Yes, larger forces will be required at larger levels of engagement.

Maybe in some places…but not all. Many police jobs are civil service, or used to be. I can state with absolute honesty that we did not give a fuck what the mayor or city council wanted. We enforced state law, city ordinances, and Federal Code (If we had nothing better to do).

An anecdote:
In St. Johns County, FL, a population of about 270K, we have only two municipalities. One of about 7K, and one of about 15K, so the remaining 258K are under county jurisdiction (Sheriff).
The two municipalities are lefty enclaves with liberal city commissions. Their policy affects most because they are the most “developed” areas – the rest of the county consists of what I call saltwater crackers or rural.
One mayor lording over her fiefdom, unilaterally decided to fly the rainbow flag at City Hall for Pride Month (June). I went on a one-man mission – dragged her through the local paper – went to the next City Commission meeting and had it taken down.
This is how they think – think they can do anything they want. It forced the City Attorney to draft an ordinance specifying only the American or State of Florida flags can be flown at the City Hall flagpole.

I used to work for the sheriff’s office in one of our counties. The sheriff is elected but the department gets funding from the county commissioners. The city police are hired by the mayor and the city council and answer to same in my state.

This county runs like a top, productive, efficient, politically & financially conservative – proof of concept on policy.

The very first and most necessary condition for establishing a state sytem of government–where you have a ruling class and landless, dependent class–is expropriation from the land. (This is per Albert Jay Nock and Henry George.)
A couple of years ago, I was chatting with a young black woman from Africa. She had recently watched a documentary about the Amish and was terribly shocked that they didn’t use cars or electricity or indoor plumbing, and had no TVs–among other things. I had the feeling she thought they should be forcibly re-educated into modern ways.
My response was, “They don’t believe in those things.” Later on, I realized that what I should have said was, “They’re prosperous and I’m not.” (And neither was she, as far as that goes.)
Another thing Nock said is that there’s no such thing as a “labor problem.” People will work whenever and wherever they are not actually prevented from working. One of the chief ways in which they are prevented from working is by shutting off their access to land (“land” in the economic sense). I.e., the requirements for producing wealth are land, labor, and capital. If you have land and you can work, you can get capital, which is the surplus produced by your labor, over and above your needs.
My point is, what a lot of them (about half) should be doing is running small family farms. The rest of them should be either tradesmen or small businessmen. While these latter are not usually outright forbidden, government does it’s best to make such occupations extremely difficult to pursue.
So I think that if a majority of people went “back to the land,” they’d find plenty to do. And they’d discover that no one needs any of the jobs OG listed–along with many more.

In my State, which within living memory was an industrial & innovate powerhouse & provided dairy products for the whole northeast, they have have updated the requirements for producing wealth. Being a tiresome old person, one of the things that I continually point out when I’m in the car with my daughter, and we’re driving into town from out ex-urban location, is the endless hundreds or thousands of acres of unused land–and worse, the thousands of acres devoted to government-subsidized row crops, mainly corn (often corn for ethanol) and soybeans. Now imagine there are no government ag subsidies. These corporate farms would immediately go bankrupt and be replaced by small family farms or small acreages.
If that happened, imagine the change in the landscape! Five or ten acres, here in Missouri, can produce a staggering amount of food. Every family farm could produce a staggering abundance of vegetables, fruit, nuts, berries, meat (chicken, beef, goat meat, mutton, and pork), eggs, dairy products, and honey. All of it could easily be non-GMO, organic, highly nutritious and healthy. The productivity would probably be increased by tenfold, compared to what we have now.
The only things that prevent this are government subsidies and regulations.
You’d still need growers of grains and animal feed (like corn, soybeans, and hay). I’m not sure, but I think that a lot of corn (besides being grown for ethanol) and soybeans are grown for export, so we probably don’t need to grow nearly as much as we do. If it’s grown as a balance-of-trade issue, we could find something else to export, rather than exporting our biomass. Like, we could manufacture stuff.

Exactly. I always hear that we need to import third worlders to “do the jobs Americans are too proud/lazy/stupid to do”. Well, when you push wages so low, and living costs so high, (partly through importing hordes of third worlders) that a family can’t be supported, what’s the point of going to work, especially if the government is willing to pay you to do nothing? Americans will work if we would just quit crowding them out of the work place.
Small family farms, that is the direction we should go if we want a sustainable future. Not just for full employment, but also for a more sensible balance of trade and a healthy food supply. But that is not what our overlords want. They want us impoverished, starving, and dependent upon them. So that is what we will get.

But the prospects for getting the government out of agriculture are probaby about the same as for getting the government out of education, medicine, and small business. Our government can’t be reformed. Secession is a possible solution, but I’m not sure we have enough honest and honorable leadership at the state level.

I don’t think you could pull of a highly successful secession, economically, without land reform. Where to get the land to give to the people? But also, my state (Missouri) has huge areas of state or federally owned land. I don’t know if there’s enough to go around, but there might be.

The people across the street had some idea about growing lavender commercially, but I don’t think the soil here is suitable for that. We grow a big garden, and my daughter has chickens and goats, and hogs some years. Various other people around the area have various livestock, including sheep. There’s an artisan cheesemaker with a herd of dairy goats. There are quite a few orchards in the county to the north. My daughter buys raw milk and eggs (as their chickens have mostly stopped laying for the winter) from a nearby Amish farmer. There are several market gardeners in the area. I haven’t been to the rural farmers’ markets for a few years, but there were often often Amish ladies (or some similar sect) selling baked goods. We have a growing population of Amish/Mennonites around here–and in Missouri generally.
I think the growing population of Amish/Mennonites is proof that the ownership of farmland, and even of a full-fledged farm (80-120 acres) is do-able–if you really want to do it. But I don’t think our urban hordes want to do it, so there’s that.

President Joe Biden is finally set to visit the East Palestine, Ohio, area that was tragically impacted by a toxic train derailment nearly one year ago.
The White House recently announced that Biden will purportedly travel next month to East Palestine, Ohio, to mark the one-year anniversary of the catastrophic train derailment and toxic chemicals that were spilled in the region.
The visit, as announced by the White House, did not include a specific date when Biden will visit.
The tragedy in East Palestine occurred on February 3rd, 2023, in which a Norfolk Southern train carrying hazardous materials derailed and caught fire. The fire spread over several days, releasing toxic fumes, oil, and forcing locals to flee their homes with their pets. It also prompted people in the area to worry about the long-term health and economic impacts of the derailment.
Biden is allegedly visiting East Palestine after an invitation from the mayor of East Palestine had requested him to travel to the site and “observe firsthand’ the progress being made in recovering from the toxic chemical spill and clean up.
Mayor Trent Conaway (R-Ohio), a critic of Biden, announced on Wednesday that he invited the current president to the site since he feels that the visit will better benefit the community.
“I’m as red as they come. I’m as conservative as they come. Sometimes I have to do what’s best for the people so, yes, that’s why I invited him,” Conaway stated in an interview with The Associated Press.
Additionally, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre made a statement regarding Biden’s upcoming visit to the area, mentioning that he will be traveling there “in February.”

The only way to really choose a legitimate candidate is to win by at least 5% as close elections just gather cheaters. Our election systems are unable to tell the difference when less than that. Remember polls saying that results are +/- 3-5%. How can elections be much better?

I rather hope that poll is accurate. The latest Quinnapiac (sp?) poll has ‘Biden’ beating Trump by 3 points. I believe polls are just another tool to bamboozle the public. The only good thing is that this election crap will be over in 10 months – assuming the election even takes place, or the opposition doesn’t go to court for voter fraud, or the people don’t cause unrest, or someone doesn’t die inopportunely.

The other day, I got a pack of crumpets at 50% off because they were coming up on their best before date. But what I do with crumpets anyway is I store them in the freezer anyway.
How I like to prepare them is to butter them frozen and stick them in the toaster oven on broil until they are golden and the butter has all melted into them.
Then I eat them like toast, except that, after every bite, I sip a little bit of heated up 100% pure maple syrup from a tiny side-bowl. Of course I have a cold glass of milk with them too.

Wow ok, so my aunt just called and I learned about three people who died suddenly in one fell swoop. I’m like where have you been and she said to a lot of funerals. Kinda shook me up.

I’ve become really aware of ambulance sirens. I live in a quiet street, but there’s a main road about 7 minutes’ walk from here. For one month from early Aug. to early Sep. 2021, the sirens seems to go way off the scale of frequency, but then settled down after.
A little after that late summer 2021, I decided on evening to follow the ambulance to the hospital (no car, by bike) to see what I could see, like if there was an actual patient coming out of it. There seemed to be, but the ones taking the stretcher out seemed unusually– to me at least– aware of my presence, and less focused on the apparent patient, and so I tried not to make my curiosity apparent.
