The people of this land have enough trouble in mind — what with livelihoods, careers, businesses, marriages, hopes and dreams circling the drain in the new insta-depression — but let’s hope they have just a little attention left over for the whirlwind denouement of the odious RussiaGate affair, now finally shredding the last defenses of the Deep State’s rogue Intel forces after years of deceit, treachery, and juridical depravity. The beginning of the end is at hand in the malicious prosecution of General Michael Flynn, and, as that’s revealed for the criminal plot it was, all the other threads in this vast tapestry of sedition will unravel.
Why does that even matter anymore, you may wonder? Because so many of our current troubles are mostly due to the culture of pervasive dishonesty America retreated into to avoid the mandates and rigors of reality in the 21st century. It operated in every area of our national life from the racketeering in medicine and higher-ed, to the games we played with our national debt, to the stupendous grift of politics, the futile wars we prosecuted, the idiotic gender conflict and race hustling, and, most flamboyantly, to the lawlessness around the CIA, FBI, and Department of Justice during and after the 2016 election. This was the culture of Anything Goes and Nothing Matters. It has to be defeated if we expect to go on as a credible nation.
General Flynn had been an irritant to the Obama administration in his role as chief of the Defense Intelligence Agency. He disagreed with a lot going on around him and he said so, especially the nuclear deal that was percolating with Iran. Mr. Obama canned General Flynn in 2014. Afterward, CIA chief John Brennan and DNI James Clapper put him under surveillance and played entrapment games with him, using some of the same shady characters (Stefan Halper, Richard Dearlove) who later showed up as RussiaGate players.
In early 2016, Gen. Flynn joined the Trump campaign as a foreign affairs advisor and that summer made the mistake of leading the “Lock her up,” chant to a delirious crowd at the Republican Convention. Perhaps he knew a thing or two about the activities of the Clinton Foundation. Perhaps he also knew what Jeffrey Epstein was up to. Then Mr. Trump shocked the world and won the election. Gen. Flynn was soon appointed incoming National Security Advisor. One can imagine the anxiety crackling through a Democrat-controlled Deep State on the verge of surrendering power to its enemies. The alarm bells that went off through the vast US Intel underground must have been deafening.
In a panic, the Intel Community set in motion a suite of operations to get rid of both Flynn and Trump. On December 29, late in the transition-of-power, President Obama lit up a diplomatic flare by confiscating country retreat properties in Maryland and Long Island owned by the Russian embassy and expelling 35 embassy employees, supposedly as payback for Russia “interfering in the 2016 election.” This prompted a conversation between incoming National Security Advisor Flynn and Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak. That cued the FBI to entrap General Flynn. The news media played along with the preposterous falsehood that high American officials should not communicate with diplomats posted to the USA. The shady gotcha interview about that with Flynn, conducted by FBI officers Peter Strzok and Joseph Pientka, has been dissected to death, so I’ll spare you that, except to say that it was carried out in obvious bad faith.
The court case over all that has dragged out for more than three years now, though anyone could see from the get-go that it was a malicious prosecution. (I said as much more than once in this blog years ago.) Presiding Judge Emmet Sullivan has overlooked flagrant misconduct by DOJ prosecutors, led by Brandon Van Grack. FBI Director Christopher Wray has concealed exculpatory evidence of FBI and DOJ misconduct that favored General Flynn for three years. General Flynn’s previous attorneys from the DC law firm of Covington and Burling — where Mr. Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder is a partner — represented Gen. Flynn poorly, and did so apparently on-purpose. In spite of all that, the case is unraveling thanks to the diligence of Gen. Flynn’s new attorney, Sidney Powell, who cuts through government bullshit like a samurai sword through tofu.
The case is now moving swiftly to a climax, perhaps due to William Barr appointing Missouri federal attorney Jeffrey Jensen to review the matter. Someone, perhaps new Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell, has pried bales of previously hidden documents from FBI Director Wray’s sweaty hands. They amount to clear evidence of a scheme to lawlessly railroad Gen. Flynn. If Judge Sullivan doesn’t dismiss the case in another two weeks, he will look like a fool and a scoundrel. He probably cares about his reputation. Any fair reading of this case would have this judge cite the DOJ lawyers for criminal contempt at a minimum.
The question arises: why has Attorney General Barr allowed this to go on and on? My guess is that he thinks the best course would be for Judge Sullivan to be forced by the weight of evidence to do his duty and move to dismiss the case against Gen. Flynn. After all, the objective is to restore the rule-of-law, and that includes getting the federal courts to operate honestly and fairly. If Mr. Barr took the extraordinary action of intervening, it would signify that the court could not be trusted, and that will not restore the rule-of-law. The same applies to a presidential pardon.
In the background looms federal attorney John Durham, who has been at work for year looking into the matrix of suspicious conduct around all aspects of the RussiaGate hoax, the greatest scandal in US history. Mr. Barr has been accused of allowing quite a few culpable DOJ higher-ups to remain in their jobs this whole time, including FBI Director Wray, despite the shade thrown on them by the drip-drip-drip revelations of their misdeeds. I think both Mr. Barr and Mr. Trump have resisted the temptation to intervene in order to 1) steer clear of malign RussiaGate collaborators in Congress and the news media, and 2) for reasons similar to the process involving Gen. Flynn — to reestablish the regular wheels of justice and faith in the system.
RussiaGate and all its subsidiary mischief amounted to a seditious conspiracy by several agencies of government against the chief executive. It was explicitly an effort to overthrow a president by illegitimate means. The conspiracy extended to members of congress, who are not privileged with immunity against felony crimes, by the way. The partial list of government officials, current or former, who may be subject to prosecution in these matters should include Barack Obama, Susan Rice, John Brennan, James Clapper, James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Rod Rosenstein, John Carlin, Mary McCord, Michael Atkinson, James Baker (DOJ), James Baker (DOD), Loretta Lynch, Sally Yates, Dana Boente, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, Joseph Pientka, William Priestap, Bruce Ohr, Kevin Clinesmith, Robert Mueller, Andrew Weissmann, Aaron Zebley, Jeannie Rhee, David Laufman, Senator Mark Warner, Senator Richard Burr, James Wolfe, Rep. Adam Schiff, Eric Ciaramella, Col. Alexander Vindman. Players outside government include Glenn Simpson, Nellie Ohr, Christopher Steele, Stefan Halper, Sidney Blumenthal, Cody Shearer, David Kramer. The ACE2 receptor is in many organs, plus the circulatory system. The virus is a killing machine. If the body gets invaded, the virus can spread everywhere. That is probably why the immune system overreacts, because it hits so many places at once.
Liver and kidney failure, copious pneumonia, heart failure, nervous system changes, brain damage, blood clots, strokes. This is a multiple site killer. That is what separates it from the flu.
Why does it affect elderly and certain segments of the rest of the population is still unknown. Genetics?

It looks to me like an out-sourcing fiasco, of which there have been several. The research was too dangerous to perform in American labs. The Chinese labs, however, were not up to snuff to do this dangerous research. There are reports of other bio-labs throughout the world that do research too dangerous to do in America due to safety concerns.
Hmm we have no idea of what research is being done in American labs or the institutes of higher learning, and trying to second guess is a waste of time and serves only to muddy the waters.!!!!

Genetically engineering viruses that never before existed in nature isn’t some far-out sci-fi development, as it is frequently represented in the press and to the general population.
In fact, it isn’t even remotely rare in academic, industry, or government research; it’s become a workhorse approach for expressing proteins of interest, for genetically altering cells’ DNA in specific ways, for studying novel infectious characteristics (including “gain-of-function”), for trying out cancer therapies—and so on.
In effect, there are literally *thousands* of bio-research institutes spread throughout the globe making recombinant viruses day in and day out, of almost every sort imaginable—from adenoviruses to HIV. I can also tell you it is usually done with little or no security, as the viruses are simply assumed to be “harmless”.
Now if you take thousands of labs all around the world essentially mass-producing all sorts of novel engineered viruses, generally assumed to be harmless and with little precaution against their escape, how long until one of them not only sneaks out but turns out not to be so harmless after all? It becomes a numbers game, mostly a matter of time. Only scientific hubris or a terminally closed mind could rule out the possibility.
Due to the sheer amount of experimentation going on, it is even quite concievable that the worldwide capacity of modern science to develop novel viruses has by now outstripped even that of Mother Nature.
Once you understand these facts, the possibility that the Covid was released from a lab, and that it might also have been genetically manipulated in some way, ceases to be outlandish at all. It is simply something that was likely to happen eventually, because of the sheer scale, reach, and one might say the *self-assurance* of the whole scientific enterprise.
Entire books have been written on this subject.
The US military, our scientists, and major universities (i.e.The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Harvard, and all the most respected) have been engaged in bio-warfare development and specifically in the use and enhancement of known diseases and all types harmful viruses and bacteria since 1939.
Japan, Germany, Britain were early adopters, and then slightly late to the party – the US – all have been doing some really really sick “you don’t wanna know” shit since then, and of course modern times will have many other nations going hard at it too.
No second guessing needed, waters all clear.

Why has the Epstein story died on the vine? More than one person believes he didn’t kill himself. Where do people think he is hiding out? Trump ran with promises to drain the swamp. I believe he intended to do exactly that. I cannot imagine the daily briefing in the Oval Office, an ongoing checklist of plots against the small group of anti Deep Staters in the White House. There’s one player, and in my eyes the biggest player, missing from the list, and that’s China. China connects to Brennan and it connects to the Clintons/Obama, the other politicians, the business tycoons, and the commie MSM. This is where investigations should ultimately be focused on.

We’ve practiced Emergency declarations, shortages and rationing, doing with less, reporting unapproved behavior, increased censorship, policing, surveillance, the ideas of Identity cards of some type, reduced mobility, miles of roads shut down, rapid shifts in industry to satisfy “war” needs, and just generally constant use of the word “war”, also daily public admiration of heroes and numerous typical “troop” support efforts. I could go on, but you already get the idea.
But don’t panic yet, if war was really a mid-range goal there would be stockpiling of massive, untold, humongous amounts of oil reserves…..

Understand I live in a fairly wide-open NE community, not pack in like city sardines. I was approaching a mom and her two toddler kids also outside who happened to be casually wearing their masks around their necks. You should have seen the fear in her eyes (and the confusion in the eyes of the toddlers) as she roughly forced them to Don their masks so they wouldn’t catch any post entail Daddyotis Ebola emanating from my mouth.

Jim thanks for saving me $3. I was going to go out and pick up a copy of The New York Times to check the coverage of the bombshells in the Flynn case, but you saved me the trouble. This is (or was) the paper that covered the Watergate scandal for months with front page stories. It’s really sad. I let my Sunday only subscription lapse, but can’t quite break the habit, so I pick one up at the drugstore most weekends. The quality of the paper is pretty uneven. Sometimes there are decent articles on the arts, travel, business, etc. Other times in seems like the staff of Mother Jones has taken over, with endless editorials and stories overlaid with identity politics. The magazine used to be interesting, but now it’s story after story of oppressed minorities, gay this, feminist that. I guess I should kick the habit, save $6 and free up a few hours every Sunday.

I tired of that narrative in 2000, when the Times chose to run a picture of a smiling Elian Gonzales on its front page instead of the photo of the terrorized kid and the jackbooted thugs. (And I even thought he should be returned to his father.) the only other day I bought a paper was after 9/11.

Btw, getting people to wear masks outside is part of the preparations for exiting the lockdown. They help slow down transmission in the post-lockdown phase, which helps keep the curve flat.

The evidence suggests that wearing masks slows down transmission, not that it stops it. So each infected person is likely to infect fewer people than if they don’t wear a mask (we’re principally concerned with asymptomatic and presymptomatic people here).
There’s also some anecdotal evidence that what does you most harm (viz. dead doctors and nurses) is getting a high viral load at your first exposure. Wear a mask when you’re asymptomatic and that cough is likely to lead to a lesser viral load, which might just save the life of the person you just infected.
I know it’s a terrible, terrible imposition to cover your mouth for a few months, but still…
I wore a cotton one for the first time this morning. And yes, life is definitely nicer without something stuck on your face. But since lockdown restrictions are gradually going to be lifted and more people will be around and about with the virus, I’m rather hoping that there will be more people like me around me than people like you. Yes … we think we understand you don’t like the pandemic. And no-one else likes it either. But the point is, without lock-down, social distancing, self-isolation and quarantine, the whole country could have been as bad as NYC.
Because these measures were effective, they are being attacked as “unnecessary” – the logic is deeply flawed. And to keep the numbers really low, masks are part of the future.
Along with more testing, continued social distancing, temp tests, hand-washing, and support for the isolated. All of this until there is a treatment or a vaccine.
I wasn’t discussing the lockdown, just the potential of masks to slow the transmission rate, which will matter more once the lockdown is relaxed. I have sympathy with the no-lockdown view, with appropriate measures to prevent the health services from being overwhelmed. It was more likely to work over your way than ours, because your hospitals have more spare staffing capacity (although PPE seems to have been an issue there too).
And as you are over-60 I hope your neighbours will be more willing to take precautions, so that when you get it, it’s a lower load. As I’m nearer 70 than 60 I most certainly hope mine will be. They’ve looked very considerate so far (crossing roads and such), before the mask phase. That will get more difficult once the traffic returns to its former level.

I found that article to be a level-headed summary of the facts — ALL of them, to date— without any political spin at all, which is the main standard criticism of the NYT hereabouts.
The fact that JHK so carelessly asserted that the NYT had not even mentioned this information is troubling. He seems to have boarded the ‘train of coincidence’.

You might call it a debate if you were oblivious, as the NYT isn’t. Omitted from that description of the developments is the handwritten note proving that the FBI was trying to figure out how to entrap Flynn into either admitting to violating the Logan act, or causing him to commit perjury. So, two people “debate” how to destroy a third; if private citizens, that’s conspiracy, if FBI agents, bravery and integrity. Also gratuitously added is the detail about “Flynn lying,” which is immaterial to the larger story about FBI agents actively trying to undermine Flynn.

A colleague at work here this morning told me that she had heard on the radio that New York’s funeral homes and graveyards are overrun and unable to cope. An Egregious Statistical Horror Story by George Gilder
With the latest reports of plummeting death rates from all causes, this crisis is over. The pandemic of doom erupted as a panic of pols and is now a comedy of Mash-minded med admins and stooges, covering their ifs ands and butts with ever more morbid and distorted statistics.
The crisis now will hit the politicians and political Doctor Faucis who gullibly accepted and trumpeted what statistician William Briggs calls “the most colossal and costly blown forecast of all time.”
An egregious statistical horror story of millions of projected deaths, suffused with incense and lugubrious accents from Imperial College of London to Harvard School of Public Health, prompted the pols to impose a vandalistic lockdown on the economy. It would have been an outrage even if the assumptions were not wildly astronomically wrong.
Flattening the curve was always a fool’s errand that widened the damage.
President Trump had better take notice. He will soon own this gigantic botch of policy and leadership. No one will notice that his opponents urged even more panicky blunders.
The latest figures on overall death rates from all causes show no increase at all. Deaths are lower than in 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2015, slightly higher than in 2016. Any upward bias is imparted by population growth.
Now writing a book on the crisis with bestselling author Jay Richards, Briggs concludes: “Since pneumonia deaths are up, yet all deaths are down, it must mean people are being recorded as dying from other things at smaller rates than usual.” Deaths from other causes are simply being ascribed to the coronavirus.
As usual every year, deaths began trending downward in January. It’s an annual pattern. Look it up. Since the lockdown began in mid-March, the politicians cannot claim that their policies had anything to do with the declining death rate.
A global study published in Israel by Professor Isaac Ben-Israel, chairman of the Israeli Space Agency and Council on Research and Development, shows that “the spread of the coronavirus declines to almost zero after 70 days—no matter where it strikes, and no matter what measures governments impose to try to thwart it.”
In fact, by impeding herd immunity, particularly among students and other non-susceptible young people, the lockdown in the U.S. has prolonged and exacerbated the medical problem. As Briggs concludes, “People need to get out into virus-killing sunshine and germicidal air.”
This flu like all previous viral flues will give way only to herd immunity, whether through natural propagation of an extremely infectious pathogen, or through the success of one of the hundreds of vaccine projects.
No evidence indicates that this flu was exceptionally dangerous. On March 20th, the French published a major controlled study that shows no excess mortality at all from coronavirus compared to other flues. SARS and Mers were both much more lethal and did not occasion what Briggs’ reader “Uncle Dave” described as “taking a hammer and sickle to the economy.”
We now know that the crisis was a comedy of errors. The Chinese let it get going in the raw bat markets of Wuhan. But together with the Koreans, the Chinese dithered and demurred and allowed six weeks of rampant propagation to create herd immunity before they began locking everyone up. Therefore, the Chinese and Koreans were among the first to recover.
The Italians scared everybody with their haphazard health system and smoking fogies. Crammed together in subways and tenements, the New Yorkers registered a brief blip of extreme cases. Intubations and ventilators turned out not to help (80 percent died). This sowed fear and frustration among medical personnel slow to see that the problem was impaired hemogloblin in the blood rather than lung damage.
The New York media piled on with panic, with bogus reports of rising deaths. “Coronavirus deaths” soared by assuming that people dying with the virus were dying from it and then by ascribing to the coronavirus other deaths among people with symptoms of pulmonary distress, even without being tested.
Now jacking up the case rate will be further pointless testing. As Briggs points out,
“Fauci is calling for ‘tripling’ of testing, which can only boost these dailies [case totals]. And make it seem like there’s a genuine increase occurring. Oh my! The daily reported cases are up! It must mean the disease is spreading!
“No. It could also mean, and probably does given all the other evidence we now have from sampling, that the disease was already there, and we just now have measured it.”
The death rate rises with further reclassification of pneumonia and other pulmonary deaths. When we reach herd immunity, and nearly everyone has the antigen, nearly all deaths can be chalked up to COVID19. Hey, it will be Quod Erat Demonstrandum for the panic mongers.
In a fascinating open letter to German Prime Minister Angela Merkel, epidemiologist Mihai Grigoriu concludes that with the French study, corroborated by findings from a Stanford antibody seroprevalence study in Santa Clara county, “the case for extreme measures collapses like a house of cards.” Grigoriu says that since the virus has already spread widely in the general population, efforts to stop further spread are both futile and destructive.
So let’s stop pretending that our policies have been rational and need to be phased out, as if they once had a purpose. They should be reversed summarily and acknowledged to be a mistake, perpetrated by statisticians with erroneous computer models.
Perhaps then we can learn from this experience with the flaws of expertise not to shut down the economy again for the totally bogus “crisis” of climate change.

My mother in law got the dementia actually Alzheimer’s we did the best we could to take care of her ourselves after her husband died of a heart attack in my couch.
We paid out of pocket for a nice lady to come take care of her while we were at work and this went on for months. Her mood steadily soured she became suspicious and angry even combative. The dementia took her sweet quiet demeaner and replaced it with a dark brooding person who wanted to know where her husband was.
Then one day she became angry and actually took a swing at the nice lady we hired to essentially baby sit her and took to crapping on the floor next to the toilet.
We then had to concede defeat and found a home for her. In that home were a bunch of other ladies with worse cases of dementia. Some so bad they were literal lumps of breathing flesh and nothing but occasional grunts and farts to express they were even alive.
Dementia sucks I feel bad for Joe and anyone else who has it or gets it it robs their loved ones of the person they love and eventually leaves an empty shell were a human once sat, loved and lived.
Texas has just reported the most deaths in a day as it prepares to open. Georgia just reported 1,000 new cases as the stay at home order is lifted.
These states, as others, will increase the spread of Covid locally and remotely, adding to the number of those corpsified. Maybe they will get lucky and the increase in cases won’t be that great. Not that they’re wishing for it, I hope, but the spread and continuation of Covid will certainly help the Dems in two ways come the fall and November:

You lose credibility when you mockingly smear the sufferings of people. No, not everyone lives in a safe, white collar bubble. Lots of people don’t cope well, and when you add severe stress, things go hay wire. This isn’t some kind of surprise. Plus, sunshine is a human right. It has to do with health, the immune system, and being able to fight off illness.
The masks are an identifier. They signal submission.
Here in Germany, I am out every day either downtown shopping, in the nearby park, or out walking or biking. Of the 100s of folks I encounter each day, I have seen about 3 masks.
I know of noone with the disease, and we know the stats back up that there is very little to worry about. It is quite likely that many more have been exposed than reported, and cases of hospitalization are very low.
The issue has been politicized, and the submissive fearful types are doing what they always do. Effectively shutting down entire economies is unprecedented, and makes no sense when the stats are examined.

Not sure what document is “this document”, but clearly the claims of “gain-of-function” research by the Chinese, in Wuhan, at the request of, and financed by, the US, and it got out (accidentally or not) … this is so incredible that you would want to see lots of evidence that it happened that way.

The point regarding listening to people’s testimony is not to believe everything that anyone says. My brother is in intensive care in England as I write, having suffered a cardiac arrest 10 days after the death of his son, who cannot even be buried for weeks yet because such things are taking longer than usual, even away from metropolitan centres.
They didn’t ignore my brother – they sent both an ambulance and a helicopter, and they did it at lightning speed. Unfortunately, he is not in the ‘non-Covid’ part of the hospital (an aspiration rather than a guarantee in any case) – nor in the ‘Covid’ section (thankfully) – but in the ‘suspected Covid’ part, because that’s where the respirators are. So not ideal when you’re at your most vulnerable, but still very much a functioning hospital.
I suspect such things are happening in Ireland too, but you won’t read about my brother in the news either.

I hear what you’re saying, and I really wish JHK would stick to the big issues of peak energy, resource depletion, the collapse of work, and the resulting financial / prosperity crises to come … but we don’t get to choose the topics that he addresses each week.
Personally I remain agnostic about the whole “deep state” meme. I worked in the (Australian) federal government for a lot of years (and in a controversial and politicised field), and the vast majority of us were career professionals. And while most of us were pretty “centrist”, everyone had their own political viewpoint, from conservative through to the left. I’ve always voted Green myself.
But anyway – we served the government of the day, as well as we could, because we knew we would outlast them. There were a few ‘political’ appointments at the top, but far far fewer than in the US system, where the incoming president makes hundreds of appointments. Seems nuts to me.
Anyway – I actually like seeing the stuff that JHK lays out on the establishment’s reaction to the prospect – and the horrific reality – of a Trump presidency. The double-standard looks bad to everyone, and the significance of the Democrat (I was one) reaction is not lost on female voters (I am one).
The older you get, the more it is likely creepy sexual harassment of some type or other had a negative impact on your life. This young generation is more “trained” against it. But older persons who are more likely to show up in November now that Bernie was ratfucked yet again will know what sexual harassment feels like, almost to a woman.
It was beyond common for women in the 60s 70s 80s and 90s to be molested, typically more than one, often at work. it was just how life was. Most men are “good”, but there’s enough assholes ready to exploit power and opportunity to go around for every woman eventually.
The gut-wrenching process of deciding what to do about it is no stranger to those older women either.
The Democrats are currently modelling the classic scenario that has kept women in a no-win Sophie’s Choice of Fear and Horseshit since time immemorial. Each woman seeing this will of course react individually, women are after all individuals and not a block.
But personally, watching Biden, the media, and the Party I had spent a lifetime supporting handle this makes me want to projectile vomit.

I agree (as a privileged white male) and can say that I have been pretty appalled all my adult life about how so many men in powerful positions have got away with it, and in almost all cases, the woman or girl has been punished, dismissed, or otherwise blamed for reporting the assault.
I don’t know where the Democratic Party goes now … presumably they will defend Biden because beating Trump on 3 November is way more important … I think they’ll try that unless and until it backfires.
Trump can’t say too much he has so much baggage himself … but it won’t stop him weighing in on the side of the women, I expect.

How A Flu Season Was Mistaken for The Zombie Apocalypse

In the hue and cry to do absolutely anything possible to avoid those deaths which might be hastened by covid-19, what about all the deaths and suffering which will be caused by a disproportionate overreaction to covid-19?

I’ll begin by stating the obvious. When vulnerable people are at risk of harm, most of us would willingly and keenly do our part to protect them. But the question not being addressed at all, is what actions are proportionate to the danger at hand and what course of action will do more harm than good?
Now that the necessary research has been done and published to settle the debate, we can finally talk with clarity about whether the cure was worse than the illness. And maybe even more importantly we can ask why a sledge hammer looked so much more proportionate than an Advil.
Dr. John Ioannidis and Dr Jay Bhattacharya (and others); professors of medicine at Stanford, have studied how many people actually had contracted the virus and recovered, in a given location (southern California). They have tested people for antibodies made by the body in reaction to the virus. The results of this study are described in this interview.

Media, public and health officials, and others have widely circulated rumors and projections (conjectures) that there were likely to be huge numbers of deaths, numbering at least several percent of the population and suggested quite possibly many times that. Every year many thousands of the frail and elderly die of influenza, worldwide. Some years are worse than others. 2017 was a bad year. Many people get a flu vaccination which might or might not help. But because this is and has always been such a regular yearly event, it never makes the news. You’re sad when it’s your grandmother but we never heard much about it on TV. But now all of a sudden, it’s different. Why??
We are now going through the greatest instance of mass hysteria in all of human history.
There have always been those occasions when great numbers of people went collectively insane as a group. Killing “witches”, hating and killing Jews are examples. Also, several groups perception of their own persecution, real or imagined, has led some to the enthusiastic mass persecution of others. But while humans are prone to collective insanity and it happens often, the present situation is of another order of magnitude entirely. This is the first instance of mass hysteria taking over the entire planet and every household.
Just a quick glance at a few features will suffice:
Hysterical media have convinced nearly every nation on Earth to lock their citizens under house arrest and forbid those citizens from making a living or arranging to feed their families.
They have convinced most everyone to allow the cancelling of all their rights and freedoms which it has taken millennia to secure.
They have convinced billions of people who grew up in relatively free countries to wait in long tedious bread lines for whatever few necessities they might still allowed to buy, as if we were all living in Russia or Red China.
People are being arrested or fined and harassed or publicly shammed for being on the ocean with a surf board, going for a walk in the country or on a beach alone, or driving too far.
No one is allowed to travel as if we all lived in Russian occupied East Germany.
I could go on ad infinitum. Many jurisdictions are asking citizens to rat on one another to enforce irrational and arbitrary restrictions.
I’ll suggest just a few possible contributing factors to account for this perfect storm of mass hysteria and how everything so quickly went off the rails.
First of course there were always human foibles, making us more prone to mass hysteria. Humans are pack animals. We like to fit in, belong and go along. We are afraid and don’t want to be the target of the mob’s actions. Most people don’t think for themselves so they go along, supposing that other people in a group consensus are probably right. But there are also a large number of new factors to make us all the more vulnerable to mass hysteria.
One obvious reason of course is that covid-19 is new. You grew up in a world where the seasonal flu swept round the world every year, killing thousands and thousands of people. But what if you had not? What if there had never been such a flu and it just popped up now, killing the same huge number of people? Everyone would freak out and overreact. The novelty and uncertainty of covid-19 has provoked exactly the kind of reaction you might have if the usual flu had only erupted this year for the very first time.
Another reason is that for the past couple generations society has been infected with the post-modern philosophy which claims that reason itself is neither legitimate nor a necessary counterbalance to feeling. Today feelings are touted as the penultimate arbiter of reality. If you feel offended then someone else must be offensive. If you feel unsafe then you ARE unsafe and so others must accommodate you in any way you specify. In the post-modern world, hysteria enhances rather than weakens your credibility.
Most importantly to the post-modern, the traditional, loyal solidarity of citizens has been replaced by tribal warfare of identity groups supposedly at war for dominance over one another. Not that everyone always saw or treated each other as brothers and sisters before, but there has never been a time when adversarial in-fighting was so much taught and celebrated as a virtue. So, for all these reasons, being hysterical is now considered self-justifying and requires no rational basis.post mortem quote 5
Before this generation, Social Media was never a thing. Today with social media we can fan each other into a frenzy and coach each other to conform to the hive-mind better than ever before. You can be mobbed, fired, jailed, ostracized and driven out of the tribe for expressing a different opinion, better than ever before. Often by people you’ve never met.
This has created a society where virtue signaling passes for virtue and actual virtue or reason might be mercilessly punished, often by an anonymous mob, from the comfort and safety of their own bedrooms. Since the ascendance of social media, people are justifiably terrified of ever contradicting the hive-mind. There is an ever-present awareness that the hive might turn on you.
The world financial system has been so badly mismanaged that it is ready to implode. There are therefore many powerful people who would welcome some other explanation to blame the coming economic collapse on. It’s a big glass house just waiting for a brick. There are influential people who would love to be able to say; “It’s not my fault!” rather than having to say “Whoops!” instead.
The business model of traditional corporate media is in sharp decline. Newspapers are shrinking fast. The same applies to TV. The response from these extremely endangered businesses is to become the tabloids. They desperately need click bait that will sell. Hyperbolic drama and hysteria are the only life preserver they can cling to in the dark waters of oblivion swirling around them. They need to make you mad, make you scared, make you divided in order to keep you watching, keep you reading. To keep themselves employed, media NEEDS a catchy story. So, screaming, “You’re All Gonne Die!!!!” is a Godsend to them. It just doesn’t get any better than this! Selling panic is their bread and butter.post mortem quote 4
It’s also important to remember that both the seasonal flu and covid-19 mostly kill the frail, the elderly and the sick. So in other words, they mostly kill the same people. Therefore, these are not two separate columns of numbers but strongly overlapping sets. Both kill many people but since these two illnesses are competing to kill the same people, the total number of deaths will likely be far less than you would expect if you added the fatality rate of the two. People killed by either might well have been equally likely to have been overcome by the other illness or by some other pre-existing cause.
So, while it is still terrible that the vulnerable are now at risk of two illnesses; it is not twice as dangerous as it might at first appear to be. Also, since these illnesses mostly finish off people already at risk of dying, it is often unclear to what degree each of the co-morbidities were the cause of death. If you die while suffering from three or four illnesses, it’s more accurate to say that, rather than to just pick one and say that was the cause of death.
Politicians and public officials are just people. This new illness was full of unknowns. It’s likely that many public and health officials thought that if they did not assume the worst case and exercise an overabundance of caution then they would be blamed if bad things went badly. So they went hair-on-fire overboard to avoid any possible blame later.
Another sad thing about some people is that they like and enjoy having power over other people and exercising that power just because they can get away with it. Whenever there is a crisis, there is a tendency of some such public officials to extend and abuse their authority and to use any crisis as an excuse for that. Some people just like power and significance a bit too much to be trusted with it. So, there will be a tendency for such people to exaggerate any crisis and thereby create a bigger alibi for throwing their weight around.
A real health emergency will actually come along some day.
But one very destructive side effect of crying wolf so extremely is that if government and health officials ever need to be listened to regarding a REAL health emergency, who on Earth would take them seriously now? They’ve proven they have no idea what they are doing or what actual science looks like. Math models based on false assumptions have been advertised as science and they are not. Just waving some math models over a lot of conjecture doesn’t make it science. The only thing that might save us from the cry wolf syndrome is that public officials and media will never admit their fiasco and a hapless public may never know they’ve been had.
And then of course, there are the puppet masters. It’s an unfortunate feature of the modern world, that most of the world’s wealth has been allowed to fall into the hands of a few dozen people. I’m sure most of them are nice people; content to live their own lives and just leave me alone to live mine. But for that reason, we’ve probably never heard of most of them.

They are not the people I worry about. But don’t all of us know someone who knows what YOU should do and how you should live? Aren’t there people whose main purpose in life involves controlling and interfering with other people? Rather than focusing on their own affairs, a few people need to have MORE say over your life. They know what’s best. Their views and values count and other people’s beliefs and values are mistaken at best, and wrong, bad and awful at worst. Such people know that other people absolutely require the benefit of their supervision.
This affliction can range from the garden variety control freak who torments their own family to the petty bureaucrat who obstructs whomever they can reach. But the syndrome’s full flowering is in the entitled billionaire, for whom the whole world must change to accommodate his bottomless insecurity. Since this character trait is not that rare, then it just stands to reason that the obsessively competitive, driven and insanely ambitious people will occasionally have this same foible.
Rather than being satisfied with being completely free, some need to take away the freedom of others to feel complete. And in it’s most extreme form, this unfortunate personality type even includes those who only really feel one up when someone else is brought low. If I can make everyone else wait in bread lines then I must somehow be better than them, even if I am miserable.post mortem quote 2
So, if you happen to be a controlling billionaire, you would definitely not let a perfectly good crisis go to waste. You would do everything in your near limitless power to convince the world that they are in terrible danger; that drastic action is required; that we all have to make sacrifices to save the weak and the vulnerable. If you happened to own the media, public officials and the politicians, people would hardly notice that all your proposed solutions were things you’d wanted to accomplish all along. The ‘Plandemic” would be the opportunity of a lifetime. So much so, that a few have conjectured that the whole affair might have been orchestrated. I’m not so sure about that. But you don’t always have to know where a gun comes from, to see clearly what was done with it.
Things like:
Let’s give unlimited additional wealth to those who already own most everything already.
Let’s try even harder to ban cash because it is dirty, filthy and carries disease. This is only “temporary” and it’s just a happy coincidence that this policy allows unlimited surveillance and control of your every transaction and location. Also, if you are REQUIRED to let them hold all your money then they can charge you negative interest for holding it or more fees for transactions.
Let’s track everyone using their cell phone to know if they are at risk of being near someone who had a germ. (Yeah, right!)
Let’s use ever more manipulations of, censorship of and control of the internet to protect you from hearing any fake news (dissenting viewpoints) which they don’t want heard.
Let’s take away any semblance of rights, freedoms or independent businesses. Desperate people make better serfs than uppity people.
I could go on all day but you get the idea.
And one question which has been deafeningly avoided in this melee is this:

What about completely erasing everyone’s rights and freedoms that so many people fought and died for, so that we all live instead in totalitarian states more like Red China than the west. Do all those lives, all that suffering and poverty, all that crushing of people’s lives and dreams, count for nothing?
So there were powerful incentives for those who already own and control too much, to see a new germ as a golden opportunity to seize and control even more.
There is danger here. I agree with the tsunami of media hype about that. Mass hysteria has wrought untold harm all through history. But now we are more vulnerable to mass hysteria than ever before and there are nefarious forces poised to take advantage of that, to create a less beautiful world, which they of course will claim is our salvation. If you have either children or precious memories you might want to stop them. Overly greedy Bison hunters sometimes simply got bison herds to collectively stampede over a cliff. I’m hearing more and more stampedes lately.
But the creepiest thing is how everyone around me has that glazed-over look with the Kool-Aid dripping down their chin and no idea what I’m talking about. CNN hypnotically blaring in the background, behind their empty eyes. I feel as though I’m in one of those body snatcher movies.
