It warmed my heart to read in The Wall Street Journal that Hillary Clinton is preparing to re-enter the Washington DC swamp from her deluxe exile in the woods of Chappaqua, New York, and make another run for the White House — though it’s hard to calculate how many porters in sandals and loincloths will be required to lug all her baggage around the campaign trail. Will hubbie hit the hustings with her? That would be rich. I can just imagine the pussy-hatted legions shrieking #MeToo at every stop. Surely there is no better way to put the Democratic Party out of its misery.
The post-election melodramas in Georgia and Florida grind on, despite the various rules and laws about deadlines for certifying ballots and accounting for their origin. What is a ballot after all but a mere scrap of paper, easily reproducible, and interchangeable. Sometimes, they make strange journeys out of election headquarters in trucks and SUVs, seeking fun and excitement, and they have been known to mysteriously turn up by the hundredweight in broom closets where they retreat to caucus. Only one thing is certain: the ballot fiasco is a billable hours bonanza for DC lawyers arriving on the scene to sort things out — which they may not manage anyway.
If the vote count somehow remains in favor of the provisional winners — Republicans Rick Scott, Ron DeSantis (Fla), and Brian Kemp (Ga) — you can be sure we’ll be in a frenzy of sore loserdom that will make the Medieval ergot outbreaks of yore look like episodes of Peewee’s Playhouse. If the provisional votes get overturned, the attorneys billable hours will quickly exceed the national debt, and we’ll find ourselves in a new era where the free citizens of this republic can‘t be trusted to the simple task of counting ballots, or even holding elections in the first place.
This epic confusion is of a piece with a prediction I made about what happens to government in The Long Emergency: it becomes impotent and ineffectual, and can no longer be depended on to carry out the simplest tasks. The process goes from the top down. At each step, the public loses faith that government can accomplish anything. The Trust Horizon shrinks away from distant authorities… the DC Swamp, the state capitals, and soon the people don’t believe anything or anyone they can’t reach by throwing a rock.
And so we enter a new stage of collapse. It will be made very much more emphatically worse as the money issues underlying this American malaise unravel in the months ahead. The reason that nothing will be done is that nothing can be done about the country’s intractable technical bankruptcy. The wealth we assumed was there is a fiction and will be expressed in plunging asset values, especially stocks and real estate. And any attempt to “fix” that by the Federal Reserve and its TBTF handmaidens moving to stop losses will only redirect the destruction to the currency itself. When citizens trust neither government nor their money, really bad things happen.
This polity is too far gone in lying to itself for official corrections to avail. Sometimes the only corrective is sheer failure. At least it presents the option of starting over. Of course, Mr. Trump made the fatal mistake of claiming ownership of a “miracle” economy that is about to get stranded on the beach like a dying grunion. His inclination, I’m sure, will be to pretend loudly that nothing is wrong — even as the new model pickup trucks gather dust unsold on the car lots, and the “for sale” signs multiply on lawns everywhere, and the pink slips land at the cubicle work-stations, and the skeleton crews of waiters stand around the empty Olive Gardens and Chipoltles playing liar’s poker with their depreciating dollars.
Meanwhile, the new Democratic majority congress prepares to ramp up its longed-for multi-committee inquisition against Trump and Trumpism, and the Republican Senate will counter-punch with binders of criminal referrals against the superstars of the Resistance. C-Span will be livelier and more colorful than the WWE Wrestlemania round-robin, midget division.

Next stop for your boy is assisted living, which by the looks of it isn’t too far down the road. He seems very concerned about deadlines for voters in the first part of his rambling. We’re talking about tens of thousands of last minute mail-in ballots from overseas. They all should be counted regardless of self imposed deadlines. And yes, they should all be authenticated as well.
JFK is a tired, jaded old white man that doesn’t like how the complexion of his country is changing-literally. But change it will as everything does. None of this should concern JHK in any case. According to him we are all doomed to an apocalyptic financial event leaving us all hunting and foraging for food. Anything else should be of no consequence in his scenario.
Put the blame on Jimmy Carter. It is his job to supervise elections in third world countries.
Now, Robert, that is good, even though I would not put all the blame on poor Jimmy. After all, how can one man be responsible for the legions of voters who don’t have a clue about what they’re doing? With such a degraded citizenry, what can we expect from ‘democratic’ elections? But, as we are constantly told, the vote has to be expanded to every nook and cranny; maybe even 16 year olds. We are getting what we deserve and we’re getting it good.
I’d point out the Jimmy Carter has said that he could not supervise elections within the US because the US does not meet the minimal standards for open and fair elections that he required for overseeing elections in other countries.
Trump has pointed out that the election in Florida is hopelessly corrupt.

Yes, the rest of the world is laughing at the stricken U.S. with its 3rd world electioneering, but this is just the way it is from now on out. Trump tells it like it is.
As I said, the rest of the world is gloating & laughing at the stricken U.S. Note Paulo’s comment below for verification. It’s pretty sad. Trump or maybe Trump Jr. is going to have to get harsh with these reprobates.
And also AZ, GA, WI, MN, IL, WA, CA….etc. The USA is FUBAR, and the proximate causes are Democrats, immigrants, and insane election rules that allow anyone to cast a “provisional” ballot, even without ID, and people in some States to register to vote with only a drivers license.
Trump would first have to know how it is before he could tell it like it is. Just how many misfiring neurons does it take to become a Trump era apostle?
Enough to understand that the judicial branch depends on the executive branch for infusions of new blood.
Maybe Florida could ask a Neutral Country to send poll observers for the next election. I’m sure Russia would be willing, and China certainly has the available manpower to get it done. 😉

Well we have been working that, the Get Rid of Incumbent Politicians or GRIP movement here for years but it is not very effective. The “Magic Line”, which is the top position on the ballot always garners a large percentage of the votes because of people who vote the “line”, and incumbents always make sure they are on it. When the incumbents are caught doing something wrong, illegal or very unpopular, it is possible to remove them at the local level, but at the county and certainly the state level, even multiple indictments do not hold a candidate back. The perfect example just happened last week here in NJ when 25 indictment Bob Menendez defeated first time candidate Bob Hugin because the “D’s” do the “D” and the “R’s” do the “R’s” and never the twin shall meet. Until we can get over this we cannot fix anything.
The easy fix is nothing but paper ballots, no election day registrations or provisional ballots, photo ID required, and both parties observing the counting process of every ballot…Democrats can’t stand any of that.
Hilarious comments. I was thinking about Canada’s elections. Somehow, in this gargantuan country we manage to not only get the votes counted by the next day, they are delivered (paper ballots) the day after by air to polling stations. I have flown countless locked and sealed ballot boxes to the nearest polling centre for verification from places too small they don’t even make it on the maps. Question: How hard is it to have a paper ballot scantroned and posted for results in 2018? Answer: It isn’t unless you are in a third world shithole country where the military is busy stringing razor wire and the press corp is under attack.

Well maybe it WOULD be, but Canada is, by and large, completely invisible from within the United States. People in the US sometimes want to go up there and live, but no one in the US is even going to think about invading Canada.
Also, in the opinion of a US Marine I know who trained with them, the Canadian Military are complete and total Badasses in action.
Finally, if there were the slightest possibility of a US invasion of Canada, do you think that the Chinese, who own most of Vancouver anyway, would be willing to lend a hand to repel the invaders? You bet they would!
Do you think Russia would take advantage of the opportunity to ally with Canada in exchange for, oh I dunno, the return of Alaska? Or they could buy it back for the original sale price of two cents an acre. You better believe they would!!
Either of these two scenarios transforms the US’s longest foreign border into a hostile country with multiple indefensible and well-paved entry points.
War with Canada would be a completely crazy decision, followed swiftly by, not only chaos, but foreign domination, colonization, and wealth extraction of the entire US.
Of course, that’s not to say it won’t happen…

I guess I am able to connect the historical dots better than most people. Of course, most people aren’t interested in history, including some of our past presidents and maybe the current one. What I don’t understand is why more American Jews are not concerned about the bad state of the country’s finances. In my opinion, the Nazis would never have come to power in Germany in 1933 if the country’s currency had not collapsed in 1923 followed by massive unemployment with the onset of the Great Repression a few years later.
How many billions of dollars do the billionaires in the Republican Jewish coalition need to be happy? Why did they lobby so hard for more tax cuts? Why do the members of AIPAC think that the US Congress should continue to appropriate billions of dollars every year that the government does not have, for Israel’s benefit? The Jewish billionaires on the Forbes 400 list are perfectly capable of subsidizing Israel if they choose to do so.
How much longer can the US continue to spend money that it does not have to play the role of policeman of the world?

Georges, you raise a good question for which there is probably not a good answer.
Personally, I imagine that the dollar is actually going to rise in the near future if global trade is to continue. The Russians and Chinese are trying to come up with an alternative but, for the time being, that is not possible. Gold will not be allowed to act as global currency, at least not at the present time. What is the dollar’s alternative; maybe a basket of goods that is dominated by the dollar, but how to derive a consensus on that? Debt deflation will actually work to benefit the value of the dollar as they become more scarce. None of this means that the dollar is actually worth what its touted to be; just that the alternatives are worth less at this point in time.

I know you didn’t ask me, but the answer is so obvious. The world will divide into trade/military blocs according to the greatest interests and perceived threats of the various “nations”. With the US no longer able to play “World Police[man]” those with deep seated rivalries (India/Pak, Arab/Israel, e.g.) will begin to play hard ball with one another.
The task for the US (and China/Russia) will be to avoid being dragged into a general conflagration that leads to large scale nuclear war while the world attrits itself. Hopefully Russia and China are not trying to take over the world and hopefully we can recognize their limited goals* if that’s all they have.
*Russia – defendable (shorter frontier – which makes them a serious regional threat, not global). China – regional hegemony.

Don’t forget all the people being laid off by Sears and KMart. Sears Holdings announced last week that the company is closing 40 more stores, 29 Sears and 11 KMart locations, which should shut their doors by February. Of course, that’s in time to get all of the holiday shopping done, including after-Christmas sales, but maybe not returns. Speaking of which, KMart will be open all day on Thanksgiving while Sears will open Thanksgiving evening. The stink of retail desperation is strong with this move. Also, as Monty Python would say, “Sears and KMart, we’re not dead yet!”

My local Chipotle does not have waiters. It reminds me more of my old high school cafeteria where for 35 cents, students could get a hot lunch back in the early 1960’s. These days, lunch at Chipotle sets me back about $8 but I am glad I have the money to pay the bill. If you are wondering what life in these disUnited States might look like in a few years, read the first few chapters of William Shirer’s “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich”.
Now that I can see age 70 in the rear view mirror, I am not as concerned about the future, but relate more to the past. My crisis moment, if you want to call it that, came a few nights after Bush 43 formally announced his support for a marriage amendment to the US constitution at his February 2004 State of the Union address to Congress and the nation. I dreamed that I had been arrested and sent to a concentration camp on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay. In my dream, it looked exactly the one at Thereisenstadt, a former military base in the Czech lands that had been turned into a ghetto/concentration camp by the Nazis for older and prominent Jews during WWII. Fortunately, I woke up before I found out what happened to me. In reality, most Jews sent to this camp either died there from bad living conditions or were sent on at a later date to one of the extermination camps in Nazi occupied Poland.
Now, almost 15 years after my nightmare, life is pretty good for me, which is more than one could say for millions of Americans who were hornswoggled into believing that their problems would be solved if only they voted for politicians who wanted to ban abortions and gay marriage. Hitler’s war against the Jews had been turned into a Republican-lite war against gay Americans and abortion doctors.

I have an uncle who was on a ship, HMNZS Pukaki that observed a British hydrogen bomb test on an atoll near Christmas Island in 1952. Tell HIM that nuclear weapons aren’t ‘real’.

Now, I don’t know how many Jews died in WWII. And I don’t condone the use of the WWII atrocities by Israel to excuse their own mistreatment of the Palestinians. But don’t tell me the god damn Holocaust was a hoax because you’re jealous of American Jews success, or miserable about your own personal failings. So every piece of “evidence” was presented through red glasses. Buchenwald was in Germany, and things get tough at the end of any war. What evidence do you have that the holocaust occurred? Part of my family were interned in Japanese concentration camps in what was then the Netherlands Indies. Part of my family lived in the Netherlands under German occupation. I was raised on stories of the war and part of those stories talked about their Jewish neighbors being rounded up and put into railroad cars to concentration camps. After the war few came back, but those that did had horrible stories to tell.

On the contrary, I’ve sat quiet while someone who claimed to be a teacher – I don’t even recall who it was – made three real grammatical and spelling howlers (not typos) in the course of a paragraph in which he was – wait for it – decrying the abilities of black students. Thank you Walter. I have no Jewish connections whatever (except for one girl in my class all the way through school whom everyone, bar no-one, loved to bits. I didn’t even come across anti-semitism in any form until I was almost an adult. Not a word from the pulpit of my church that suggested anything other than that the Jews were pretty much our cousins.
I too had relatives who fought in the war (my dad was in a reserved occupation so wasn’t allowed to – he was designing blast furnaces as his contribution to the war effort!). Thankfully none of them died – we had to wait till Vietnam for that.
I don’t know if it’s my age, but for me this particular denialism strikes at the heart of all that is decent. I realise it’s pointless trying to change their sick minds, but if no-one says anything to them, other impressionable people – especially the younger generation – are going to give credence to this vileness. And yes, the thought that there will soon be no-one left to actually witness to what happened means there will be more of the same.
One detail I always remember from ‘Shoah’, which I haven’t watched for a long time (I saw it on TV when I lived in France in the 70s but I have it at home now), a woman who had been in Mengele’s experiments described how her new-born baby was taken from her and her chest was tied up so that she couldn’t feed it – just so that they could log how long it took the baby to die. I’m enraged now just thinking about it.
These people CANNOT be allowed to get away with allowing it to be forgotten.

I find myself not really believing anything that anyone in an official capacity has to say, or I should maybe qualify a bit more, most things for sure. Your generation may have had more security in the things that officials said due to the seemingly more secure nature of the world a few decades ago. The question becomes, who do you really trust? At this point, I will believe it when I see it when it comes to anything a person says. Until then my assumption is that officials only serve the masters who pay them, and that isn’t the taxpayers because taxpayers don’t make civil servants millionaires.

The closest I can find to a suggestion of genocide is this passage in the minutes:
“Under proper guidance, in the course of the final solution the Jews are to be allocated for appropriate labor in the East. Able-bodied Jews, separated according to sex, will be taken in large work columns to these areas for work on roads, in the course of which action doubtless a large portion will be eliminated by natural causes. So the “final remnant will… have to be treated accordingly.” In conjunction with the previous statement that “doubtless a large portion will be eliminated by natural causes,” I think it’s reasonable to assume a high likelihood that a planned genocide was being discussed based on this text.
Nevertheless, it seems to me desirable that portions of the canonical holocaust narrative should be open for reexamination, that there shouldn’t be suppression of legitimate objects of historical enquiry & that legitimate investigators shouldn’t be demonized as “deniers.”

I work a few blocks away. The place is like a concept car. Nice sign on the outside but I don’t know who goes there. It’s a storefront in an old industrial area that is being gentrified by high end furniture stores. A rock climbing place opened not far away recently. The only people living within miles of the place are homeless. They can’t afford Amazon Fresh prices. The storefront is in the corner of an old Sears store that was built in 1915. The building is now Starbucks headquarters. Amazon has a small space.
To use this store a person would have to drive from where they live crossing railroad tracks and an interstate freeway, or use a water taxi and Uber, crossing other tracks.

HAHA – Trump says that an honest vote count in Florida is no longer possible so let’s just go with the winners from the night of the ACTUAL elections. Gee, he is just too smart!!! We know that the sore losers behavior is just stereotypical – I mean think about it ;-).
Let’s assume for argument’s sake that the fictional “wealth” conjured by the Fed through its counterfeiting operation is actually real, with a solid footing in the real world. Let’s then consider California, one of those blue states that really shove it in people’s faces, standing tall and smirky and superior every day and every way. Well, maybe they ought to put some of this money where their mouth is, because after all, they’ve got Silicon Valley with its uncountable trillions, they’ve got Hollywood and its bursting bags of loot, they’ve got the inordinately wealthy in mansions (some of which are burning fiercely as we speak, but no big deal, they’ll get re-built) along the Pacific. And they’ve got the Kardashians.
And with all that money, they still have Blacks and Hispanics among them in a seriously degraded state, there’s homeless crapping everywhere and addicts leaving diseased syringes all over. How can it be this way in a state that tells us that they’ll have sanctuary cities for the world’s woebegone? What about all these people right there already that they aren’t helping?
Where I’m going with this is that Democrats and progressives in general are all talk. They couldn’t give a shit, least of all for those already living in dire straights right underfoot.
So, what comes of it? It’s like Herb Stein said, if something can’t go on it won’t. It stops. And when it stops, what comes of it are new ways of doing things.
It might start with eccentric long-beards who start saying hokay, enough of this, this is hopeless, so we’re headin’ out into them thar hills. And so they pack up the hound and the missus and the ankle-biters and they make the trek out. It’s not as if it would be the first time we’ve seen this, it’s happened before in history when civilizations collapse, the folk in no longer tenable towns and cities move into the hinterlands, settling around water sources or defensible hill-tops.
Can you picture it? Family-groups abandoning messed up coastal places like LA and San Fran and heading out and forming go-it-alone communities in the boonies, maybe leaving the state altogether?
California is schizophrenic lol. Very beautiful landscape (although charred right now) and terrible, terrible culture. Other than the land I would say it’s pretty yucky. Unfortunately liberals bring their values with them so we need to wall off California :-).

If you claim to be helping the most desperate in countries where people cannot afford to feed their families, and you tell them they mustn’t use contraception, I would submit that you are a fraud on some level.
It is well established that the way to alleviate the worst poverty in such situations is contraception, small families, healthcare, and education for women.
Mother Theresa was not “claiming” to be helping the poor. She was actually in the thick of it. Unlike some atheist progressive scum like Christopher Hitchens, who devoted a good chunk of his life to a) argue for the Iraq war that made hundreds of thousands of dead and helped fill the Baghdad morgue to overflow with corpses and shattered a country, and hang around swell guys like Paul Wolfowitz and b) malign people who were actually getting stuff done. Of all things to devote your life to. Not loving your neighbour, but arguing for war, and writing rancorous books about how terrible people who selflessly devoted their lives to helping others truly are.
She was busy taking care of the wretched of the earth, lepers, children of the alleys of the slums, people no one else would touch with a ten foot pole, feeding them, opening dispensaries and mobile clinics, attending their final days. It’s not like she was providing healthcare or anything of the sort. And it also meant opening and running orphanages, and, yep, schools. They were probably generic-school schools, not specifically education-for-women schools, so I guess this does not count.
To some people, all of this still means she is a big fraud unless she also provides abortions on demand. And instructs kids to become hedge fund managers, like Jesus no doubt would have. Fuck those people.

I would say the Middle East too is in the same situation. But they revere big families, as do all the Middle Eastern religions (in fact all religions probably have done since we had fertility goddesses!). And the women (at least among the least educated) have no power over their own reproductive choices in very many cases. (Asma al Assad doesn’t have 10 children!).
I’ve seen women in ‘developing’ countries say they have to hide contraceptives that they’ve got from a clinic from their husband. Having lots of children proves he’s a man.
And I’ve seen others whose clinics – which provided free contraception – have had to close because their funding has dried up following Trump’s insistence that any clinic that even provides information on abortion – even if it doesn’t remotely carry out abortions itself – must not be funded.

I’m anything but an undiscriminating fan of the Catholic Church, but it contains PEOPLE, good ones and bad ones.
The good ones have done a lot of good, but arguably would have done anyway, even if they weren’t Catholics. It is just as likely that good people are drawn to what they perceive as the good in Christianity as it is that they are made good by being Catholic. Chicken and egg stuff.
What the evil ones do has to be brought into the light, but tarring all Catholics with the same brush is stupid. And while I don’t hold with its premise that those not within its fold – or even some related fold – are going end up in an everlasting sulphurous pit, I think making blanket statements suggesting the Catholic church has done nothing but evil in a temporal sense is ridiculous and defeats sensible arguments about real abuses and hypocrisies.

It’s not really that bad, the litter. Only occasionally and in the odd challenged town centre. Windy places do take more work to keep the pavements clear, though. And every day is not actually windy.

But it will definitely need to happen for real stability – I guess if we ever really get stability. Hyperbole much. The federal government carries out very complicated tasks every day. Millions of pieces of mail delivered, millions of Social Security checks printed and mailed, millions of direct deposits made into the accounts of people who post here. And without errors, without fail.
The problem is that state, county and local governments are not as efficient as the federal government. Voting conducted by local governments should be subject to minimum federally guaranteed standards, like the 10 minimum standards ACA required for health care insurance. Citizens should receive a paper receipt for their vote. If Walmart can generate a receipt for buying cat food, it can’t be that difficult to provide a verifiable receipt for voting.
As much as I detest agreeing with janet, there really ought to be more national standards when it comes to voting.
For example, why have 50 different kinds of proprietrary voting machines? Why not have one national open source machine that is well known and well vetted? This way, when bugs or security issues are discovered, all machines can be patched at once.
I guess it has something to do with Federalism and States Rights. Washington already has way too much power over our lives. The only election that is federal anyway is for POTUS, which is actually 51 separate elections.

She’s old, she has fallen. Can she get up? The Purpose of Life …is Life, amen.
The sole purpose of life, and therefore our only human purpose may simply be, life itself. That, upon reflection, would appear to be quite enough. The life force does have its urges though, lots of them, it would appear. After countless eons of self-replication along came sexual reproduction, life had apparently gotten to be in somewhat more of a hurry. Life then pursued bigger and better forms of itself as mobility, size, vision etc. ensued over time.
Vision was very unique and a promising end in itself, but life appeared to desire a different platform with which to fully employ this new sense. Many prototypes came and went, and eventually on the scene appeared humankind complete with a newly acquired awareness. Did life, with this move, express desire for an ego to admire itself or, more positively, to express itself? Why else create a platform embellished with consciousness? Then, alas, something went very wrong with life’s dedicated pursuit of life? Human behavior. We know large portions of the recent history of our species and it’s not very good. Considering our known history, can we even begin to significantly amend our ways? Life demands a timely answer.
If and when life decides we have exhausted all possibility of further usefulness, and our excesses overwhelm life’s other vital interests, do we then sever the thread with life? Should not we begin to tug ever more gently at this tether to lessen our risk? Does life even care about the fate of us, its creature? Probably not, countless other species have traveled along on life’s quest, prospered to a degree and vanished. Will we join them?
Of course it is possible life may be providing itself with a non-life fallback to the dilemma posed by our misuse of awareness and consciousness. If humankind becomes suspect of probable catastrophic losses to many of its other progeny, life then may seek to substitute Artificial Intelligence for flawed human intelligence. We, ourselves, may rapidly be creating the instruments for our future replacement with life’s resigned encouragement. Life may value this tediously acquired awareness beyond all measure. More the pity for humankind.

I just watched a recent podcast of an Ann Coulter radio interview. Seems Ann is very upset with the GGG and has blamed him for losing the House. Her two big points are:
1) Trump has always had the authority on his own to build The Wall as it is a National Security issue. All he need do is divert a few billion from our bloated military budget.
2) Sign his promised Executive Order to end Birthright Citizenship. It’s no matter that a lower court will try to block it. It is past time that this goes before the Supreme Court. Then we’ll find out if The Constitution is a “Suicide Pact” or not.
In addition to being a fine writer and compelling commentator, Coulter is a lawyer and well versed in Constitutional law. In a twice reading of Mr. Kunstler blog, it appears to me that he is coming around to her POV.

My Kindle tells me I am 55% of the way through the only book of his that I have read, and I have watched him debate a number of people, including a very nice rabbi who seemed the best of the bunch (not the one Outsider referred to but I’ll look for that clip). I was aware of controversies around M. Theresa from long before I had any acquaintance whatsoever with Mr Hitchens’ oeuvre. When I was first aware of him I think I possibly even avoided his work because I was still more or less ‘on the other side’.
Tony Blair was the worst. Hopeless. Both in the debate and as a human being. Odd that they should have been on the same side in terms of their support for war in Iraq. That was not Mr Hitchens’ finest hour, but I haven’t read his reasoning – it wouldn’t change my mind, though.
The thing is, I don’t think he would claim to be right about everything. But some institutions that he criticised do make such claims. Despite it being observably not true.
The right has an unfortunate habit of lumping people together in terms of what it imagines they think and extrapolating a view on something from a view on something else. I have just done that myself in using the term ‘the right’, but there we are – the point remains valid.

I think we have to stop using “right” and replace it with something that says more about what we really believe, like “conservative” to pick and easy one. I do believe that those of us that admire James Howard Kunstler’s work and ideas, owe a lot of our attraction to the ideas of “conservation of resources” and less “consummation of mass quantities”. Those that do not, so what, you know what they say about opinions.
As far as right goes, no one is right. Republicans are not necessarily conservatives, and democrats can be conservative as well, at least in theory, even if none have been so for oh so long. One major problem with our electoral sytem and process is the extreme fraud, like the kind we are witnessing in Florida and Georgia. Top that off with a lackluster educational system and you end up with uninformed voters selecting candidates that are unqualified, or even worse, just dishonest. Systemic changes are needed to fix this and will likely have to be forced because we have become such an undisciplined and greedy society. Short of that I think the ship sinks.
On Wikipedia, former Senator Max Baucus of Montana is described as a conservative Democrat. As Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee in 2010, he played a major role in the passage of Obamacare. He was opposed to a single payer option and managed to kill it. So if the final version of Obamacare did not live up to your expectations, blame Senator Baucus before you blame President Obama.

I never knew how profoundly deep my sense of loss was until the second day of my Vancouver trip, when I looked out my hotel window at English Bay. It was then that I remembered seeing a photo of my grandfather wearing a body long swimsuit standing on that very beach near the turn of the 20th century. God, was it that long ago? I left the hotel a few minutes later to take a very long walk through Stanley Park, looking for places I had seen as a boy. I walked for an hour at a slow but steady pace until I reached the lawn at “Lumberman’s Arch”, about 100 metres from the shore. I stopped to survey the scene and when I did, I was beset by a flood of memories. It was at that point that a senior Dutch-born lady and her husband approached me for directions. One sentence and one topic followed another until I began to tell them about the significance of this spot. I explained that for well over a century, working class immigrants met at this place in this park for picnics. They came because it was scenic, but more than that, they came because it was free. I told them that as a boy, I heard every European language spoken here, and that for me, Stanley Park was always Berlitz Park. But when I began to talk about my own family’s picnics here, I began to choke back tears. The Dutch lady told me that it was alright. I could take my time. So I got through it. I told them that it was here that my parents, grandparents and mother’s siblings gave a send-off to my then 19 year old uncle “Al” in August of 1941. He had just come back from his 10 day honeymoon, and he was dressed in his RCAF uniform, ready to travel east to the Commonwealth Air Force Training base in Saskatchewan that very afternoon. After they all said their goodbyes, my father drove Al to the CPR railway station a mile or two away. That was the last they saw of him. Al never came back. He was killed in action three days after D-Day. But for what? So that Canada could be Chinese? So that Vancouver could be a megacity for millionaires only?
Yesterday was not the first Remembrance Day that I thought of the futility of his sacrifice. About the fact that he and many of his Canadian comrades died to preserve the culture and liberties of two peoples, Canadian and British, and a bicultural nation that treasonous politicians gave away without a mandate to do so. But this Remembrance Day that feeling was compounded tenfold, for it came on the heels of a visit to a Vancouver that had been transformed well beyond my worst imaginations. A city “diversified”, densified and demolished beyond recognition. My feelings were a composite of despair and rage. I felt like doing a Charlottesville impression, marching through the streets carrying a torch and shouting “You will not replace us.” But the point is, in most of urban Canada, they already have. And they are not going to go away.
Immigration-enablers, white collaborators and Asian ethnic lobbies would argue that my outpouring is the expression of an old white man steeped in racism and privilege and possessed by a feeling of entitlement. A contemptible remnant of a dying demographic soon to exit the stage. They would argue that as a descendant of White settlers who ‘stole’ native land, I have no moral right to complain about displacement or “ethnic cleansing”. As if two wrongs make a right. They would say that human history is a history of migration, of one wave displacing or replacing a previous one. They would repeat the cliché that Canada is a nation of immigrants and must continue to be so, and that immigrants built this country and are needed to continue the project. But most of all, they would parrot the party line that we are not a nation of two founding peoples, but a diverse range of people from across the world perversely united by their diversity, by their profound differences, by a set of core deracinated “values”. They would say that “old stock” Canadians of British or French descent are just fragments of a “mosaic” that can be held together by the thin glue of civic nationalism. And they would add that any prescription of “ethnic nationalism” is inherently racist and “white supremacist”, words that now seem to form part of every sentence that issues from their mouths.
To them I have but one response: I don’t care what you think.
I know who I am, and sorry Jordan, I am PROUD of the people I came from, as well as their unparalleled achievements. The ethic of individualism was the signature crowning glory of Western civilization, but it was always the product of relatively homogeneous people. As “The Great Replacement” continues on its rampage, it is evident that paradoxically, to rescue individualism, we must act as a collective. And to do that, we must acknowledge and celebrate our distinct identity, not deny it or apologize for it. You say you are a proud Muslim or proud African or a proud First Nations member. I dig that. They have a clear idea of what they must do for themselves — and for us. It is about first developing a subculture, a counter-culture that will grow under the radar. The one that will rise like a phoenix from the ashes of a crumbling, collapsing and decadent society on course to mimic the failed states that many of its migrant citizens came from. It is about building character and following a code of conduct that will serve to act as a billboard for their message. That such a group of inspiring young men could have run the gauntlet of relentless Leftist college indoctrination with this vision and comprehensive understanding intact seems miraculous. They radiate hope. It was the antidote I needed. All is not yet lost.
And to think that our meeting and our networking ultimately came about as the result of one game-changing book.

I actually learned about the idea of an Inner Earth a few years ago and it had nothing to do with race or anything as such. More recently, I have been watching videos on YOUTUBE about the possibility that Germans found the entrance to the Inner Earth in Antarctica and ultimately went there after the war. Walter, I have read and re-read the Book of Enoch. Love it very much. I believe the giants are real and actually like you said still exist. Yes Janos, the Bible does indicate that the Giants were not the good guys for sure. But interestingly enough, Giants did survive the Flood, so that does leave questions as to how extensive the event truly was. I read the September-October 2018 edition of Foreign Affairs. Now, this is real progress. Unfortunately, events don’t wait for enough people to wake the fuck up. Guys like David Remnick can squawk all they want that Trump’s election was all racism and misogyny and this phobia or that, or that it portends the rise of fascism, that it’s all because of the unwarranted fears of under-educated and inadequately striving country-folk. But history has its own currents, the generators of these societal tides and tsunamis rooted in human needs and drives.
Facts being inordinately stubborn things, the Remnicks of the world put themselves in grave peril by ignoring them. What facts? For example, that human intelligence is many-faceted, that it isn’t defined only by facility with symbols on a page or words and images, that much of it is defined by the ability to shape objects or to manipulate the physical world,
The average construction worker may not posses the erudition of a writer for the New Yorker, but it’s also fair to say that the average writer for the New Yorker would be baffled by the tool-belt of a construction worker. So who would you say is “smarter”, the trades-men on a building site, the farmer tending his fields, the machinist shaping a piece of metal, or the staff for a big-city magazine?
This is a long way of saying that human talents and abilities come in many forms, the current definition of who’s smart and who ain’t is dreadfully straightened by those who think they’re really “smart”, who put too high a value on their own abilities and disregard or disdain others.

One of those dreadfully stubborn facts is that what drives people who write for magazines, who work at colleges and on Wall Street, who consider themselves opinion makers and leaders, also drive the people that are currently devalued and disparaged ie meaning in life, some worthwhile prospects, some useful function, adequate ability to provide for family. This doesn’t come from racism, it’s not resurgent fascism or this preposterous phobia or that. It’s basic human nature, the survival instinct at work.
And when you yank these basic things from people and then call them vile names there’s hell to pay. This ought to be common sense. But maybe among the “intelligentsia” it isn’t. How did Trump get elected? Trump didn’t deride the people that Hillary and Remnick insult and laugh at, that’s how.
The Remnicks of the world ought to be smart enough to realize that. Maybe they’re not.

More directly, Pirsig says that a person who knows how to fix motorcycles well, e. g., with quality, is probably going to have and keep a lot of friends while one who can’t is less likely to do so. The person is not seen as an object – because “‘quality’ destroys objectivity”. Fulfillment arrives.
Another guy is Matthew B. Crawford who wrote, “Shop Class as Soulcraft”. He’s a mechanic (ha, love it, motorcycles) and has a PH.D. in political philosophy.

Peoples attitudes towards their own work and the work of others spring from a deep well. Just think of the psychological adaptations one has to make in a stifling, dead end job. The mind-soul easily becomes unfilled, restive and looking for relief. Is the businessman really satisfied other than on the financial and physical level? If not, one must find an outlet, an escape. And there are many. Music, Art, Poetry, Mathematics. Back into mythos and logos. The “carousel of time” and all that.

The Moral Dilemma of a Modern Nuclear War
According to modern scenarios of nuclear war, the attacking side – most likely the West – will have to start a war with the attack not on Russian population centers, but on places of location of Russian nuclear missiles – the so called First, or Disarming strike.
Theoretically, the Disarming Strike could destroy up to 90% of Russian nuclear missiles, and remaining 10% could be intercepted by the ABM systems located in Eastern Europe (in Poland and Romania). After that all that remains is conduct a limited counter-insurgency (Police Action) to take full control of Russian natural resources.
Russia, when its early missile warning system will detect a volley launch, will have 10 – 15 minutes to make a decision, and the only feasible decision would be to make a counter blow with all its nuclear assets, while they are still not destroyed by the enemy’s disarming strike, or lose almost all of it. Since the enemy’s missiles are already in flight, the counter blow will be made against enemy cities and civil population.
Of course, if it will turn out that it was a false alarm or computer glitch, or Western missiles weren’t nuclear tipped, Russia, as true gentleman, will apologize and say “we are sorry”.

Tijuana mayor Juan Manuel Gastelum criticized the recent arrivals, describing some as “bums.” He said a consultation would be held on whether the city, which lies some 17 miles (27 km) across the border from San Diego, California, should have to continue receiving the migrants.
In an interview with Milenio television, Gastelum complained that migrants had been hostile to local authorities and that the federal government had failed to control its southern border when the caravan of people began entering Mexico on Oct. 19.

A small group of residents in an upscale Tijuana neighborhood near the Mexican border confronted caravan migrants late on Wednesday, throwing stones and telling them to go back to their home countries.
“Get out of here,” around 20 people shouted at a camp of Hondurans near the border. “We want you to return to your country. You are not welcome.”
Such harsh words! Hardly the jubilant festival-like atmosphere initially reported. Apparently, Mexicans are happy to offer assistance so long as the caravans keep moving. Or perhaps so long as there are business opportunities to be had selling and trading goods and services.
