How reassured were you by Joe Biden’s speech to the nation Thursday night? The more his managers pretend that he’s in charge of anything, the more unlikely it actually seems. So, they wound him up — Adderall would be my guess, to fortify the attention span — and rolled him out like the mummy of Amenhotep III, and one could just imagine the leaders of this-and-that foreign nation cringing (or cackling) in their seats to see this embodiment of collapsing America go through his spiritless ritual motions.
Mostly what did not fly is the idea that the Covid-19 virus can still be used as a cattle-prod for herding citizens into feedlots of compliance — Americans are buffalos, not steers. They are determined now to take care of business, and the main business of people with any initiative will be to rig up some sort of gainful occupation while the lumbering old systems break down. They will do it despite orders to operate at fifty percent capacity, or close at nine o’clock, or be handcuffed by rinky-dink regulations. They’ll have to get creative to figure out ways around all the official impediments to making a living. This group of the not-yet-undead will resist further attempts to restrict their liberty and to steal the fruits of their own enterprise to pay for other people’s failures or lack of enterprise.
The federal government is one system visibly working to destroy itself with epic giveaways of money it pretends to command and the Covid-19 Stimulus bill will only accelerate its loss of credibility. A $1,400 check won’t “solve” the problem of someone a year behind on mortgage payments or rent. It sure won’t solve the problems of their creditors and landlords. And if you think shortchanging that class of people is a good idea, you’re beating a path straight to the death of credit per se, and then of our money, the dollar, which is based on credit.
Taxpayers are not so stupid that they’ll fail to notice who is being asked to bail out bankrupt states, irresponsible cities, and pension funds and there’s going to be trouble over that. The trouble will express itself both in political strife and in the further decay of the relationship between work and wealth. It means a collapsing standard of living for most people. Turning the one-shot $1,400 into a monthly Guaranteed Basic Income can only be a short-term shuck-and-jive when a loaf of bread goes from $5 to $15 to $50 — which can happen easily, and quickly, too, as lots of “free” money chases crashing productivity. Wait for it.
Meanwhile, the party in charge of things is squandering the last of its moral authority in stupid and tyrannical Woke crusades against free speech and free thought. They went after Washington and Jefferson last year. This month, it’s a purge of cartoon characters, starting with an auto-da-fé over at the Warner Brothers’ Loony Toons lot. Disney better watch out because they’ll be coming after Mickey Mouse next — for “acting white.” Which brings us to the 800-pound gorilla in the room: the abysmal condition of race relations in the USA, expressly sponsored by the Democratic Party.
The Left’s promotion of the supreme “conspiracy theory” du jour, that “white supremacy” stifles and suppresses people-of-color in everything they endeavor, has inspired provocations so dastardly that they are driving the country to racial war. The rioting and looting season is upon us again, and the perfect stage-set for the opening offensive is Minneapolis, where the trial of officer Derek Chauvin just kicked off this week. Black Lives Matter is marshalling its troops outside the courthouse to intimidate jurors and threaten mob violence against an outcome they may not like.
The facts of the case suggest that former officer Chauvin has a sturdy defense, starting with Minneapolis Police training films that show officers how to apply the same knee restraint that Chauvin used on George Floyd. It was in their instruction manual, too. Add to that the forensic reports that show fentanyl levels in Mr. Floyd’s bloodstream several times above what would likely kill a normal person, plus meth, plus marijuana. He had an enlarged heart and was Covid-19 positive at the time of his death. And, of course, he was not complying with the cops’ orders during his arrest, which is exactly what led to him being physically subdued.
None of that will matter to BLM because the video of Mr. Chauvin kneeling on George Floyd’s neck was such a perfect poster for the white supremacy meme, whatever the reality of the situation was, and it’s just too rich in coercion value to let go of. I’d predict trouble in the streets no matter which way the Chauvin trial ends up, just because energies are up and the weather is good. It will be infectious in cities across the nation again because the dividend of getting to loot is such a temptation, and last time that happened, the authorities did nothing to stop it.
How will it go this time? By now, shop-owners in Minneapolis (and elsewhere) must have gotten the message that the police are not interested in defending their places of business — their bosses, the politicians, ordered them not to. Some business owners may opt for defending their property themselves. Imagine the cognitive dissonance that will make for as Nancy Pelosi’s Congress tries to pass new gun control laws. If Joe Biden is even around, will he step up and tell BLM and Antifa to cut it out? Or will he just ignore all that as he did during the election campaign last year? Half the country, at least, won’t stand for it anymore.
In the meantime, Gawd knows what will be happening in financial markets and banks as all that new money floods an economy that can’t produce enough to absorb it. Racial war and runaway inflation… not a good recipe for political continuity.

I was thinking the same thing: Given this hi-tech world and the fact that Biden wasn’t appearing live in front of real people, do we really know if that was the real Biden or if this was a pre-recorded video that was the result of tens of attempts to make him appear coherent.
I do believe they are trying to pull of a ‘virtual’ presidency.
If only the rioting, social chaos and financial collapse were virtual too. Unfortunately, they will seem very real.

There is a massive shift away from that mentality, cuz “boomers bad”.
But boomers remember what their parents did and how they viewed the country and world, and have passed down much of that to the Xers and we can only hope some of them (myself included) can successfully pass that down to their own progeny.

My point is I know some people from my teens and 20s (“back in the day”, now of course) that try harder than most anyone I know…they just have never been able to put forth the right combination of skill and action to make things work for them. Every new venture a spectacular failure, ever spiraling downward to the next predictable disaster.
I don’t fault them for that. At least they’re trying, which is more than can be said for the other half of folks in this country that are teetering around the poverty line. I would just say they may not have the right number of marbles that they need to succeed. But I respect the effort where it exists.

One of my neighbors often posts opinions such as, “Any business that can’t pay its employees a living wage shouldn’t exist.”
I suggested that he start a business, to which he replied, “Not everyone is cut out to run a business.” (He also doesn’t seem to be cut out to be employed.)
I considered asking him what he could do or produce that people would willingly pay for, but that would have been cruel.
The percentage is likely the same. The problem is their “initiative” is ten times more likely to be a “Nigerian” type of scam than a value product or service.
I do not see a tipping point. The federal government will go on printing two trillion every six months. The riots will burn non stop all year. The southern border is open to all say two million per year. I think this is the new normal.
I wouldn’t disagree with any of that, tbh. Debt creation has now gone parabolic and was predicted by Egon von Greyerz several years ago but if you look at Gov’t debt it has been rising exponentially over the last 50 years.
As the saying goes, “things that can’t continue, wont” and “how do you go bankrupt? A little at first and then all of a sudden”.
Exactly… any system that gets too out of control is going to initiate some sort of massive change/resolution.

You can’t eat gold – believe me I’ve tried! However, you can exchange it for a truckload of food and save your kids’ lives when they have life threatening diseases. Apart from that, I agree.

As regards people who say “you can’t eat gold”…I always ask them if they can eat their federal reserves notes, maybe in a nice bowl of milk? Can’t eat that Picasso painting, either? Oh well, throw in on the fire to keep warm. Use a little common sense, for crying out loud, you’re not a caveman.
I like gold and silver just fine. Gold is great, but if you’re hungry, food will be what you need. Sure PM`s can buy food, if it’s available where you can access it, and the other guy is willing to sell.

There is a limit to how much food you can store in your house before it becomes obvious to everyone around you. Organic gardening skills and a broad base of knowledge on how to deal with weather anomalies are essential, but again, anyone pursuing it too obviously will be targeted.

Thank you for covering the Floyd suicide. Not many are willing. I have seen friends try to explain what Floyd did TO HIMSELF on various comments threads, only to be met with hysterical CRT/antiracism cultists spewing platitudes in response. There is definitely going to be mayhem if Chauvin walks. I also appreciate you mentioning that Chauvin was following his training.
When I first saw the video of Floyd’s death, I refused to jump on the hysteria wagon because after 2 years of such viral videos requiring immediate ‘reaction’ I had figured out the purpose and so I did not proffer an opinion on what I thought was happening there. Within a few days of research, even without realizing Floyd had done himself in, I knew something was up. The mainstream media, of course, had already convicted Chauvin and made the stupid and dangerous career criminal Floyd into a saint, deserving of four funerals, one with horse-drawn carriage, a funeral fit for a king.
Since then, discovering that what we were told we were watching was the polar opposite of what it was, is pretty much what I expected would happen, given that most of these ‘false flag’ type incidents end up not matching the official story. Same with the so-called capitol ‘insurrection’, which official story unravels like a cheap suit the second you do any research at all.
My prediction is that no one in the Dem party will dare to try to stop Antifa or BLM’s rioting. They can’t, lest they be seen as even more hypocritical than they already are.

During the jury selection some potential jurors have been caught hiding their biases.
Then Chauvin’s lawyers point out Facebook posts etc. from a year ago of the person clearly having an opinion regarding Chauvin’s “obvious guilt!”. “Just watch the damn video bra! That’s all you need!”
But to be a responsible unbiased juror you need to hear ALL the facts in the case.
I wonder if there is any plan in place to protect the jurors and their families should they come in with “not guilty”?
I’d say Saint George of Floyd’s psychopathic personality disorder ultimately led to his death.
At the time we were all made aware of one George Floyd video, we also saw some public official cautioning that things might not be as they seem, and that we should not rush to judgement.
Of course what he was referring to was the body camera footage from the police involved, and also the report from the autopsy, showing cause of death.
He was aware that those things put a different light on Floyd’s death, but of course he couldn’t publicly comment on the ongoing investigation.
The problem here is that if he was aware of this other evidence, so were the city council members, and so were the Pelosis and Schumers who went ahead with a public spectacle portraying Mr. Floyd as a martyr.
It was highly improper for them to influence an episode still under investigation in this way.
I don’t know if what they did was a crime but it was certainly fraudulent an unethical.
Just add it to the list of all the unethical, illegal, and manipulative things they do. Of course they all knew. Zero chance that any of these people don’t know the entire truth of it.
Yup, if you show it, show all of it – or explain why not. They have blood on their hands. They did the same thing with Rodney King and that got a lot of people killed.
I’m pretty sure that most of the public is totally unaware of many things regarding what happened with Floyd. The problem is that Minneapolis NEEDS to convict him so that they can try to prevent the looting and burning of the city and to prove their woke bona-fides. And I sure doubt there are any jurors willing to let him walk as they would have reasonable certitude that they would be targeted by BLM . In truth, he can’t even come close to getting an impartial jury or a fair trial there.
And once this happens it will become clear that to ever convict a black person accused of even the most heinous crime is verboten if he is supported by BLM. Equally, any white or Asian accused of anything against a black MUST be convicted or risk utter mayhem. This country and law is toast.

Totally in agreement. Officer Chauvin did not have his weight on Floyd’s neck, but instead on his right knee which videos and the coroner’s report of no asphyxiation clearly show. None of the officers violated any regulations, yet all have been given over to a lynch mob by the MSM and Demoncrat politicians, who ignore the deadly cocktail of drugs in Floyd’s system. Truth and facts do not fit their marxist narrative.

Candace Owen: Blacks are the only people who lionize criminals. Not exactly true, Mexico and Central America love their bad boys. But they are usually presented as Robin Hood type heroes. Be that ever so far from the Truth, that is what the people are responding to – the myth. Blacks don’t seem to need all that. If a White cop kills a Black criminal, that’s proof enough that he was a hero, now become a god.
It is sadly the truth that many nations love the criminal types. Milovan Djilas, the great Serbian writer, lamented during the early days of the civil war in the former Yugoslavia when the bands of murderous militias roamed in Croatia, that “Serbians love the bandit”.

I’m ashamed to say, I jumped on the hysteria bandwagon when I saw that what-seemed-to-be conclusive image of Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck. Then later on, I saw the full bodycam video and realized I’d broken one of my main rules: never go with the crowd. I was a fool, but whoever withheld that video was evil.
It’s great that you can admit it. I felt the knee-jerk tug, but I resisted, because I haven’t in the past. We all have our bamboozles.

So, why did Minneapolis pay $27 million to the Floyd Flamily? The city must be run by a bunch of idiots.
Biden’s speech was bizarre, and rambling. It had many points, that weren’t always congruent with each other.
A major theme throughout Biden’s speech (again, under 30 minutes) was his strident call for “unity”, and in one extraordinary case stated
“We need to remember the government isn’t some foreign force in a distant capital. No, it’s us. All of us.”
When there are more troops deployed around the US Capitol, then the nation of Afghanistan, then yes– this is an action of an occupying power– not a republic.
More I think about it, the speech was an argument for a kind of soft totalitarianism, trotted out by a misty-eyed grandpa, against the US public at large.
The Democrat formula seems to be announcing the opposite of what they are doing – and accusing others of what they themselves are doing or will do. This is one of the few things they are consistent about.
So, if FoJo said ‘government isn’t some foreign force in a distant capital” then he means it IS. Seems obvious to me, why else the chicken wire and military presence? Are we being occupied and if so, by whom?
Good point. But he admitted we are at war – against Covid. Everyone “can” get vaccinated by May. And those who don’t? Are they then on the side of Covid?

Are you watching the scenes in the White House and the Congress as we speak? Biden is shooting off executive orders as if through a gatling gun. Illegal immigrants are being allowed to flood through the border. They will spread across the nation, and will drive wages down and devalue the life of existing Americans. Biden has signed an order allowing criminals to vote, and presumably illegal immigrants too (I can’t even keep pace with the developments). The Dems have passed an election law which is intended to keep them in power permanently and make the US a one-party state. They passed gun laws which will be huge leaps towards the ultimate goal of gun confiscation, in order to make the citizenry (now their subjects) defenseless.
The reason I say “resisting in our souls” is because their takeover is pretty much complete. There is no way to physically defend ourselves against them now. I mean really, they’ve got like 20,000 troops guarding them in the Capitol, because let’s face it, they know that the nation hates them. They have good reason to fear the people.
The civil war should have begun months ago, when it was so abundantly obvious that they were defrauding and stealing the presidential election. But no. My US friend been living here in the UK with her husband and 16 kid for the past 16 years (full resident the entire time) is/has been getting full stimmy checks for the whole family from the US Gov for a while.

I maintain a bank account in the US to facilitate payment of tax bills there–infrequently I’ve been double-taxed (income from US sources). US citizens living abroad are obligated to file each year regardless of whether or not they owe anything or face full taxation on foreign income for those years if found out. Whatever US government services I infrequently need I pay quite high prices for at the embassy. My husband wanted me to maintain options for places we might flee in the event of politics going sour here, otherwise I’d have taken on Japanese citizenship long ago. To do so now, BTW, would cost a lot more than the cumulative amount of stimulus checks I’m receiving (and reporting on my Japanese tax return), as the US makes you pay heavy fees to renounce citizenship. Meanwhile I consider how I might handle the long-threatened US taxation of all foreign-earned income of its citizens living abroad who pay taxes to their country of residence. Probably incorporation and a nice salary to my husband who shall be president of it. I have a Japanese bank account, but recently lots of banks overseas will not accept US clients because of onerous reporting requirements to the US government.

A new bill proposed by the German government would allow gender-confused children as young as 14 to change their first name and documented gender on government records, regardless of their parents’ wishes.

“For the application … the minor must have reached the age of 14” and obtained “the consent of his or her legal representative,” the bill states. “If the legal representative does not agree, the family court will replace the consent if the change in gender or first name does not contradict the best interests of the child.”
The kind of “expert opinion” that German courts could use to usurp parents’ authority may not even need to come from medical professionals, the bill indicates.
“If the person is a minor in proceedings … the court will collect the expert opinion of a person who, due to their training and professional experience, is sufficiently familiar with the specifics of transsexualism,” it reads.

It breaks my heart to see how complete the stupidification of the American people has become. Of course, a large part of it is with people that are not really American.
My epiphany as came two weeks ago as I was driving on a four lane out west. Seeing rough road in the right lane I also noticed a line of vehicles behind approaching, so I moved into the left lane maintaining 64 mph. As they got closer I noticed the front vehicle was black and the others in single file behind him were making no attempt to pass. He began slowing to match my speed rather than just continuing to pass me on the right. When I didnt get over a car farther back pulled around to pass. So I went ahead and got in the right lane and the hiway patrol officer turned on his lights.
After I was on the shoulder and all the traffic but one had passed, the officer came up to my wife’s door, which she opened, and we began a conversation.
He noticed that was driving in the left lane at 64 mph. I said that was correct and that I was allowing 7 or 8 vehicles pass me, without all of them changing lanes.
He pointed out that if I drove in the left lane no one could pass. I told him no one wanted to pass until he began impeding the right lane.
Then he pointed out the new signs that say DO NOT IMPEDE LEFT LANE. I asked him about the word ” impede”
He says,” Do you want to obey the law, or do you want to argue about ? “. Although I wanted to do both, I realized he did not. I skipped the part about ‘ understanding the charges against you ‘, and confessed to being a law abiding citizen.

In the Bay Area, after driving in LA for years, I was gobsmacked to find out that it is common practice for some derp to drive under the speed limit in the far left lane.
The same could be said of Interstate 75 from Atlanta to Florida where there are only two lanes (thank God there’s not too many stretches anymore. ) I’ve traveled in a caravan of ten or so cars going 90 mph with less than half a car length between. One dare not move into the right lane…you will never be able to escape.
We were tootling along I-83 north from Baltimore, in the right lane, but when we came up behind a truck we switched to the fast lane and picked up speed.
Suddenly the soft-top roof of the Chrysler Sebring rental flipped up like a sail – it hadn’t being secured properly. The noise was unbelievable.
We slowed down a little looking for an escape route – there was none – and while MsTek was desperately trying to hang onto the roof sail, I was still doing 60 mph plus, and there were horns blaring everywhere. Not a great experience.

On the flip side, sort of, they did a study many years back, in California. If you stay in the left lane and maintain a higher speed (than the lanes you are passing) one will arrive at their destination before that irritating fellow who is constantly trying to weave through “traffic”.

Early vaccines seem to have saved lives, even if the theoretical foundation was flawed or incomplete. My issue is what they’ve done with vaccines since those glory days. The adjuvants – enhancers like mercury. The grueling schedules for young children, leading to short circuits of the nervous system and autism.
Mortality of infectious diseases dropped over 90% prior to the widespread use of vaccines, due to better diet, improved sanitary conditions, etc. Basically vaccines showed up at the right time to claim credit.
The viral theory of disease deserves to be reconsidered – that would be the scientific thing to do – but its refutation would cause the dismantling of a huge, highly successful racket. So don’t expect any changes in the shadow show on the cave wall.

It’s well maintained, not too big, easy to get to off I-95. Well the day we went hardly any cars in the lot … the place was like a ghost town. 3/4 of the stores were vacant, including our kitchen supply company. It was pretty much dead, and I don’t see it coming back.

MsTek and I only invest in stocks with good dividend payments – 5% or better after tax is paid. They don’t grow much in value, but they don’t crash and burn either. They are “boring” stocks like banks, retail, mining and resources, construction, property, food, some indexes.
They’re not capital guaranteed of course, but to the extent that any industry is “safe” – their track records are solid. We have always avoided travel, entertainment, casinos, and especially anything to do with big tech and electronics.
There are very few places to park your investment funds and make even a small dividend – term deposits and other interest-bearing cash holdings are hopeless. Savers have been punished for a very long time now.

So it makes sense that some people profiting off of sickness would encourage more of it or even the perception of it to make even more profits.
Yes, our medical system has been coopted. It’s certainly not about healthy anymore, but profit. And who knows? Maybe other things as well. Like genetic engineering. Or the opposite of health: extermination for most.
I saw what you wrote up thread and I don’t know but I think your theory is possible. That the vaccines could be made in such a way as to make you actually more susceptible to the virus or similar viruses. And maybe even you do “shed” the virus to others causing the whole situation to worsen and then ultimately you become incapable of handling the virus and die and everyone else follows like dominoes. As we know those in power have talked about the virtue and morality of depopulation for a long time. And even the idea of a wild, humanless world has been elevated to almost like a sacred fulfillment of prophecy for some of them. So its very possible knowing what we do about human nature that some of these people could easily take advantage of a situation like this or even create it to try to achieve an outcome they believe is spiritually better or better for the cosmos or whatever.

My larger point is that no “respectable” news outlet would even mention this newsworthy statement from Hearns. When a claim of Covid jab correlation IS made, there’s certainly a quick counter-response, though, with a full “the jab is safe” appeal to authority behind it.

Israel has rolled out what it is calling a ‘Freedom bracelet’, a tracking device that will serve as an alternative to a two-week quarantine for anyone entering the country from abroad.

I didn’t know of these. I knew they completely closed the country, even to Israelis stranded abroad and new Olim. Only about 1,000/month were allowed to/from travel and only for visiting funerals of recently deceased relatives.
The good news is that as of 2 days ago the country is the first to open up, and almost all restrictions were lifted, except for travel abroad.

My policy would be to allow for herd immunity. Those who want to wear a cotton rag or splash guard are free to do so. Those who want a shot are free to get one.
If they take the shot, they should have nothing to worry about according to what the news and various state organs were claiming.

I expect the prosecutors will argue that had Derek Chauvin not held George Floyd under his knee for 8 minutes and 45 seconds – including some minutes after Mr Floyd was “unresponsive” – then he would not have died in that event.
Action A led to Death B … and hence the trial. It begs the question – would a fit & healthy person survived being under that knee for 8 minutes and 45 seconds? But I’m not certain that’s the main point here.
In the view of the prosecutors, Derek Chauvin’s action led to the death. (I am not a lawyer).

It sounds as though she may need some training—teacher training, that is. It may be that some of her students are too hopeless to teach, but surely there are others who can be taught if they are provided the catch-up programs they need.

Point is, the above may not be true. What about the energy expenditure of machines, of irrigation, of pesticides, of processing and transportation? What is the calorie content of the crop?

Sometimes though, the energy return on the energy invested is not the whole point. JHK has talked for a very long time about the energy inefficiency (let alone the financial inefficiency) of fracking oil and tar-sands oil.
The point is to convert a form of stored energy that is unusable into a form that is usable – to make gasoline and diesel to fuel transportation for instance, or burning coal to heat water to turn turbines to generate electricity.
It would probably be far more calorific-efficient to just eat grapes, but “society” expends a lot of energy turning that into wine – or in fact grains plus pure water into spirits and beer.
I suppose that if a group of people think it’s worthwhile to distill, it could mean that they have the caloric wherewithal to do it, ie excess calories. Or it could mean that their sources of drinking water are unsafe and so the alcohol content of spirits and beer might help with that ie as an antiseptic. Just guessing.
We are going to need all the beer and wine that can be made, the way things are going.

No doubt, new techniques like the mechanization of agriculture led to a massive expansion of the food supply. In this case, as you say, that depended on the availability of cheap sources of energy. So when fossil energy gets too expensive look to a return of muscle power, like farm animals and slaves. But these won’t be remotely as productive as tractors. What then? Maybe a massive contraction of the food supply and then a massive reduction of the global human population?

One question, if we lose half the population, what is the motivation for using all the labor reduction technology in the first place? What for?
Let’s take the example of beef production in Argentina.
Spaniards bring a few heads of cattle into a remote colonial outpost in the 16th & 17th centuries. They also bring horses. European methods of production don’t work in the new country. Indians raid the herds. Cattle gets lost. Land holdings are too vast to fence in. The land itself is incredibly rich: 6ft or more of black fertile topsoil nurturing endless grasslands. Stray cattle thrive in this environment. Few natural predators and plenty of food. It multiplies.
Each new generation of cattle is better adapted to this environment. At the same time, a new human type appears, the “gaucho”, a mestizo born from Spanish conquistador fathers and Native mothers. This is centuries before the waves of European immigration. The Spaniards brought few women with them. The Natives were never numerous. Many of their women become Spanish men’s lovers, in some cases wives.
Population density is very low. Cows outnumber humans by factors of hundreds to one. The gauchos are tough men of the prairies, born on horseback, mostly illiterate. They never taste bread or vegetables in their lifetimes – their diet is almost exclusively beef, wild, unclaimed, so abundant that they can kill a cow, eat the best cut for lunch and leave the rest to the vultures, travel a few miles and do the same thing for dinner.
This high calorie food is available for next to nothing. There’s no way to preserve it except to jerky it. Population still very low. Gauchos move herds to the cities, beef is consumed but not exported, except for hides and some jerky. The rich soils stay rich.
By the early 1800’s, independence from Spain is achieved and the first of many waves of European immigrants start arriving. The old Spanish aristocracy despises the new arrivals and clings to their vast land holdings and their traditional lifestyle of endless herds managed by gauchos. Tolstoy, writing about Russia, talks of landowners with thousands of acres but not a rouble in their pockets; same applies to this class.
The new arrivals from Italy, Poland or Wales start thousands of smaller farms producing wheat and corn and potatoes, all easier to preserve than beef, although with less caloric density. Railroads develop like spiderwebs, all leading to the port of Buenos Aires. The world is hungry for grain, so the country prospers.
By 1900 refrigeration has been invented, so the country can add beef to its exports just in time to feed Europe through both World Wars and many other smaller conflicts and famines. Both grain and beef farmers start consolidating and incorporating new industrial production methods. The gauchos disappear, replaced by immigrant farmhands. The soils at this point are about half as fertile as they were at the start of this story, but still yield a lot. Population grows fast. Demand for food, both for domestic consumption and for export, is high. Prices go up every year.
By the late 20th century, a series of populist govt’s have dealt severe blows to food production, as farms are expected to bail out every failed economic scheme through high taxation. Producers scramble for the cheaper methods of production that ruin soils: GMO seed, pesticides, RoundUp, feedlot instead of free range for cattle, antibiotics. The Chinese demand for Argie beef and other foodstuffs is voracious, and one of the country’s sole sources of income. The Chinese also demand soybeans in vast quantities, so thousands of acres are converted to this crop, very detrimental to the environment. Wheat and especially beef harvests are smaller every year.
Now, in 2021, farmers are against the ropes. Another populist govt dictates the % of food that can be exported, and forces producers to sell the rest at a loss, to keep an enormous population pacified. The soils have been mostly depleted and can only yield crops w giant inputs of chemicals. Exports are heavily taxed, and farmers lose $ when they supply the domestic market at govt prices. The future? Each year they plant less, invest less, try to get out of the business of producing food and move into finance, real estate, or plain just move out of the country.
That’s the story of how an agricultural powerhouse falls: population pressures both domestic and global, failed economic policies, lack of foresight in preserving and nurturing soils for future generations, and the result – a land where prime rib was once the cheapest food now finds it hard to make sure its population can eat beef once a week.
Reminds me of the Syrians the Iraqis the Lebanese the Palestinians digging pirate wells, destroying the underground aquifers and causing drought and war.

I understand it as the drawing of electoral districts by local politicians to benefit their own party based on their knowledge of neighborhood by neighborhood voting loyalties. The name comes from one such politician named Gerry that drew one such voting district such that on a map it looked like a salamander. Hence “gerrymander”. Republicans get the most flak for it but both parties do it. Should you care? Like a salamander it has this sliminess about it.
Now that we’re at it, “flak” comes from fliegerabwehrkanone which is German for anti-aircraft cannon.

There is a very good case for all “districting” to be handled entirely and independently by non-partisan electoral commissions … but in most states that will never happen.
The only real solution to gerrymandering is to have much larger districts, and have some form of proportional representation voting within them – with each mega-district electing say 10-12 representatives – but that ain’t going to happen either.

Two points.
Blood transfusions will do an amazing job in reviving a person short term… for a few days. I saw an old man on the verge of death, basically comatose given a blood transfusion so the medical facility could get him out of there. From comatose to awake and asking for a beer. Released and faded fast. Died within a couple weeks.
Second, you can’t have a revolution until people give up on the current government. The radical left wants a revolution. So bear in mind there are organized groups that want to destabilize American society to the point of revolution. And when they argue they are doing it because Black Lives Matter or whatever slogan of the moment, they are not arguing in good faith but simply putting out a smoke screen to cover their actual objectives.
If we want a republic and a constitution rather than totalitarianism, we need leadership, objectives and action. Time for outrage is over.
