Apart from the 150 people shot (25 killed) in Chicago, the week after Father’s Day had the quality of a time-out from widespread anarchic violence that the Democratic Party has unleashed upon the nation to distract the public from the party’s lack of a viable election candidate or any credible platform of ideas for managing epic economic contraction. The contraction was already underway before Covid-19 greatly accelerated the damage.

Whipping up a moral frenzy over alleged “systemic racism” adds a nice overlay of psychological damage to a population reeling from economic loss, keeping them enthralled by phantoms, figments, and apparitions while all their familiar arrangements unravel around them. Last week’s pause in the action only portends a resumption of hostilities culminating in July Fourth, when the nation traditionally throws a birthday party for itself. No celebration will be allowed this year. But there may be plenty of marching, moiling, and mayhem.

Wokester Central has already established the story-line that the USA was a criminal enterprise from the start and that it must be smashed to set free the genius energies of Wakanda — currently misdirected in the suicidal gunplay seen in Chicago and other places of concentrated urban poverty. It’s pretty obvious that the uproars of Black Lives Matter (BLM) and its Antifa allies are to some degree centrally organized. They have access to plenty of cash, thanks to funding from George Soros’s Open Society Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and an array of showbiz-oriented corporate supporters. You can be sure that there will never be any accounting for it, since that would be labeled “racist.” The news media has shown zero curiosity about how exactly the money is being used — or merely distributed among those in the upper echelons of the hustle.

Based on the emails coming in here, some readers are baffled as to why I call BLM “a hustle.” I define a hustle as an effort to influence other people by dishonest means to give you something. Black America has received a tremendous amount of sympathetic assistance from the rest of the country since the 1960s, when the US government officially acknowledged the raw deal they’d gotten in slavery and Jim Crow segregation and passed landmark legislation to try to correct it. Doing so was a moral necessity when the USA posed as “leader of the free world.”

The effort has continued for decades with less than satisfactory results. A lot of well-intentioned help over the years had unfortunate unintended consequences. Everybody knows that the cash assistance programs created a pernicious culture of government dependence, hindered black family formation, and rendered black men superfluous except in sports and showbiz. Affirmative action in college admissions was undertaken mainly for institutional moral showboating, often with tragic outcomes for young people unprepared to perform there.

A large share of the black demographic remains mired in economic failure. Ending racial segregation was surely a moral imperative, but one tragic byproduct was the destruction of the old mirror economy of black middle-class business and professions. A lot of that was replaced by employment in various public bureaucracies, with jobs ranging from useless to pointless to hopelessly corrupt and inimical to the real common good. The evidence is right there, on-the-ground, in Newark, Baltimore, Philadelphia and many other cities. The rest of the country pretends not to see it because they are ashamed about how things turned out. They are even more desperate to seek phantom explanations and “systemic racism” covers it with elegant simplicity. No need to think further.

I don’t have the exact numbers, but it’s likely that the Covid-19 lockdowns took out disproportionately more jobs held by black Americans in low-paying food prep, hotels, and other service industries. A lot of those businesses will not be coming back to anything like their former levels of activity and employment. Of course, all other racial groups in US are getting battered by job loss, too, but they are expected to find solace in their whiteness, Asian-ness, Hispanic-ness, et cetera.

Pretty clearly, the next move for black America is the demand for cash reparations for all their historical indignities. That’s the hustle-of the-last-resort. One can easily predict the fiasco it will lead to. A Democrat is elected in November and reparations are enacted by congress. They’ll come out with some figure, whatever tortured process it takes. They’ll do it in the same fabled hundred days that they legislate trillions of dollars in other programs aimed at replacing lost private business with government dispensation… of everything… based on… what?

Well, not on the production of anything of value. Really just on more debt. The new crop of political leaders, like the old crop, will overlook the fact that the American economy blew up in 2020 because it had been running on debt, one way or another, for more than a decade, and we actually exceeded our ability to take on new debt. So, when the new administration borrows trillions more from itself, it will finally destroy the dollar. Within a few months, the value of reparations — whether $100,000 or $10 million per individual — will run to zero. The joke will be on everybody. Except guess what. It will be no joke.

    Wasn’t there a charismatic Black freedman preacher who led a congregation of freed slaves post-Civil War out to the “Promised Land” in Northern Texas/ Oklahoma into Comanche territory and then he and his followers were promptly scalped or raped and taken prisoner? The only Bible that the black slaves could read was the Bible. The black slaves thought that Lincoln was “Moses”, and eventually Lincoln came to believe it. Go figure…. How did Moses die? Did a Confederate sneak up behind Moses and blow his brains out a week after the Bankers pulled his Pinkerton security guards? I wonder what Lincoln did to piss off the Bankers? Maybe Lincoln was threatening to pay off the war bond debt to the British bankers with inflated greenbacks rather than in gold? The first major act of President Grant was to commit to paying the London bankers back in gold against the advice of his advisors. Grant’s decision pushed the US economy into a deep depression. Who’s your Daddy?!

        I’ve always heard that the Comanches hated the Blacks but have never found out why. In contrast, the Sioux admired the Black Union Cavalry, and called them “buffalo soldiers”.

    This next election folks, isn’t a contest between competing ideas that will benefit America. It won’t be a contest between candidates or liberal or conservative stripes. It won’t be a contest between a bombastic, crude speaking man with an overly inflated ego, and a grandfatherly type who speaks in soft tones and politically correct platitudes.

    It will be a contest between COMMUNISM and FREE MARKET ENTERPRISE.

    If you’re a democrat and you vote for Biden, you are voting for communism. It’s that simple.

            Well if the thread holding us up is one doddering, twittering old fool, then we are done in any case. It’s just a matter of when. Now or in four more years. Trump would have had to have been to absolutely extraordinary to pilot us through these shoals. As it is, he seems like fake opposition. Many have said the same of the last Czar: a fine man who could have ruled well in ordinary times but complete over-mastered by the times he faced.

            To save us, Trump would have to declare martial law and then just cancel elections for the duration of the unending crisis, maybe passing it on to Don Jr or King Donald the Second. The Republic dies (as if it was really alive befre) but Long Live the Empire.

            But he doesn’t even have the balls to take on the protesters.

          But it isn’t an ideological battle at all. The Democrats don’t have any ideology. They are freeloading off racial animus of blacks towards whites and the hopelessness of white young men. The GOP hasn’t had an ideological position in decades, just merely slowing the acceleration of class lawfare against working-class white America. White America has been called a cancer by much of the third-world. It’s true. Cancer can’t be beaten – neither can we. The problem is that the host – The United States is going to be destroyed in the fight. Oh well, bring it on.

        Free Market Enterprise = National Sovereignty

        The Progressive Movement is after one thing, the destruction of the individual motivation model in the US. Collectivism is the model for Marxism. As long as the US succeeds over and over in being the economic King of the Mountain and having the military might to defend itself against the world, it poses a threat to the advancement of Communism. The Left will do anything to tear down this country to remove the impediment to their global control. The advancement of the Stupidification of our country has just about achieved the Left’s goal, as will be evidenced in November.

        Stupidification = Socialization of demographics with illegal immigration plus the pollution of adolescent minds by the state funded university system.

        Do the demographics of the US deserve the individual model any longer? Are folks interested in individual liberty and control outnumbered by the results of Stupidification?

            To me, corporations are an anathema to the Marxist ideals of the globalists. Horrible private ownership. The Russians killed millions of private enterprisers in their agricultural areas when they nationalized the farms.

            As shown many times, Russia being one, nationalizing private enterprise leads to government control of everything, ie Communism. A real warning sign of imminent Communistic uniparty control is the government take over of personal property.

            Oh wait. Health care, university funding! It is already imminent!

            A gift of your Democratic Party and its big sibling, the Deep State.

            Watching Trump, I think he has just about had it with the whole Washington, Deep State scene. He is used to getting results from business dealings and the DC credo is to make lots of noise and accomplish absolutely nothing.             All I’ve seen for the past 4 years is one Democrat lead coup after another. I’ve seen people’s lives ruined by democrat lead false prosecutions. I’ve see a disingenuous impeachment attempt that ignored the idea of fair play. And I’m watching democrat lead thugs burn and destroy private property on their mission to cancel history.

            Seems to me, the democrat lead ‘resistance’ has the mandate to step all over their opponent, and they are working hard at it.

            Interesting discussion.

            To me, Liberal is a word that means favoring change as a way to respond to social problems. Conservative means the opposite that maintaining the status quo is paramount . Both are right according to the situation.

            Unmitigated change is catastrophic in all cases. Untested change leads to bad as well as good and a testing screen is required. Conservatism unbridled stops necessary adaptation to changing situation.

            The answer like all things is balance between the two. Sorta like our Constitution that promotes necessary but discourages frivolous change. Uniparty control in the country is disastrous as we are seeing right now. There has not been a conservative administration since the first term of Reagan and our Democratic polluted government is the result. The balance has been thwarted by the RINO GOP which I say is the main cause of the political imbalance present today.

            Moderate Democrats should feel this pressure as the radicalism of the Progressive movement negates their party just like the RINOs.

          I think there is wrangling over words here more than real things.

          BC-EE uses a loaded word — communist — guaranteed to excite a reaction based in real history. I doubt anyone present wishes a life under Stalin or Pol Pot or Mao, and I doubt that’s what BC-EE intends.

          That there is a collective component to polities is an obvious fact made light of by Franklin’s observation that the only things guaranteed in life are death and taxes. Franklin was speaking from The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

          Commonwealth. Now there’s a word that deserves more circulation and consideration.

        See above, plenty to do around the homestead without leaving. Always have maintenance to do, don’t have time for ‘strolls’ away from home.

        Not quite old enough yet but thank you very much.

        We have two septic fields which I pay to maintain via ‘sweat equity’. Every repair a 60 year old septic tank that has terracotta tile for sewer lines? Comon’ by and I’ll show you. No help from any government entity either.

        Drink water? Communist
        Sure do, on a well that I maintain. And you pay heavily to defer maintenance. No 911 number for well repair.

        And I am not a rare case.

      Suggestion: read the book Zero to One, by Peter Thiel. It will help disabuse you of the idea that ANY entrepreneur is looking for “free enterprise.” What they are ALL seeking is monopoly; that’s what even the tiniest market niche is.

      For FAR too many businesses, the monopoly they seek is created or enforced by the government. Just as, for example, Facebook, Twitter, and Google can get the benefits of being free of regulation because they’re not publishers, while they continue to act as publishers by censoring content. The government hobbles major publishers by holding them accountable for libel and slander.

      If the contest becomes clear as one between crony capitalism and straightforward socialism, socialism will win.

          Socialism is here. Why not do a jujitsu throw and claim for our own? Most people will be patriots if you give them the chance to be. The Mob wants to be taken care of and needs to be taken care of. So take care of them and THEN ask things of them. They will then happily give back.

          The Upper Class is left alone. But no longer allowed to torment the People. The gifted who actually made their own fortunes are invited to participate. Any State needs gifted people and expertise. The rest are left in peace – with a tax increase.

            I was thinking the same thing. Co-opt the co-opted movement.

            I don’t disagree that socialism is what’s next, but it cannot be the socialism of Marx. To avoid the knee jerk reaction from the right, socialism, ‘American’ style MUST preserve private property and incentives to maintain the work ethic, etc…

            I like options that expand the Job Corps, and I would support a full blown para-military implementation of such an organization.

            The republic must get something for it’s socialist contract.

        The only sustainable economic form includes opportunity for all peoples, a motive to advance, and a way to redistribute wealth to prevent monopolization. Controlled capitalism has all three.

        Our system is losing all three. Socialization is death to all three.

      Hey Pete, I’ve got news for you. As soon as the phrase “Too Big to Fail” became the new big business mantra in your Country, the USA stopped being even remotely a “Free Market” economy.

      Promoted and cheered on by that bastion of the Free Market, the GOP (given that it was their corporate masters who would benefit the most) then meekly waved through by the Democrats who, let’s face it, are beholden to exactly the same folks, Socialism moved in, shifted the furniture and even changed the curtains.

      Yes, Socialism – The idea that the Collective (ie: the taxpayer) provides for everyone… Except in this case, it was the taxpayer bailing out the wealthy, while their own wages and conditions went backwards. The Banksters (who largely precipitated the Global Financial Crisis) didn’t even miss a bonus.

      From my perspective (here in Australia) neither Mr Trump nor Mr Biden are going to change this in any way. Bernie Sanders MIGHT have, had he not been nobbled by his own Party (although every “revolutionary” Candidate talks a good game before they actually get the gig – Just as Mr Obama). The only difference between them is that Mr Biden does seem to realise that his Country IS part of a GLOBAL system, and would go out of his way to begin restoring America’s reputation. In short, I think there is far less chance of him starting World War Three – which I firmly believe Mr Trump is stupid enough to be led into by those who believe it would serve their ends. Like I said – Purely my perspective. I (and I suspect most Aussies) have no desire to dragged into another War.

      Here’s hoping Mr Biden chooses a great Running Mate – Someone who will give Bernie’s supporters a reason not to stay home on Polling Day.

    I was talking to a big finance bloke the other day. Apparently, the local governments in the US are going to start blowing up financially because of the collapse in local tax revenue unless the US Federal government steps in to bail them out. I wonder if these local governments have any assets such as land that they’ll be forced to sell cheaply? I’d like to buy a nice cave….

    I read that they’re starting to turn the cheap 2 and 3 star hotels into “affordable housing” for homeless people. Some of those cheap hotels offer complimentary all-you-can-eat waffle breakfasts and free HBO.

          We should all be thankful for our gracious host and his warnings. I heeded his warning and took his advice a few years ago and decamped for a quiet small town off the beaten path.

          Any who haven’t been so fortunate and is still in a major metro, well, best of luck to you all. I doubt the troubles will get any easier once the dollar loses magical reserve currency status and the river of energy that feeds the system slows to a trickle accordingly.

          I’d not want to be anywhere near a diverse and vibrant hub of commerce when the engine seizes up entirely. I’d not want to be there now, considering the check engine and oil lights are both on and there’s a strange smoke rising from under the hood.

      Exactly right. When the level of public debt in this country is expanded to include state and local it the figure is eye popping. What is coming is a huge and hard reset. Don’t really prescribe the the way JHK describes the long emergency. I tend to think society makes it through fine. But a lot of of people will get hurt in this decade.

      This is my observation as well. Both extremes are wagging the proverbial dog. The middle has no voice, in either camp.

      Early in the primaries I was leaning towards Tulsi for her anti-regime-change-war posture, but when Hillary came out an painted her as a Russian asset who would try to create a third party and wreck it (again) for her, she lost steam.

      The middle is where the solution can be found. That big 2/3 majority under the normal distribution where a dialog can be had. That’s where hope lies.

      But just like 2016 we don’t have that choice, so we need to cast our vote for the one who will do the least damage to our republic. And like 2016, the only candidate who will do that is Trump.

      The lying and cheating and overt disregard for our constitution and our values expressed through the actions of the democrat’s leaders and allies, are appalling. There’s no way I could hold my nose and vote democrat.

      Exactly. The term “privilege” has got to be put in the trashcan, but if the media is going to keep harping on “privilege” shouldn’t the term be “White/Asian Privilege” as opposed to “White Privilege”? My god, the amount of wealth that is concentrated in the Asian community here in Los Angeles (and elsewhere) is astounding. Ivy League enrollments are now something like 40% Asian. And some of the biggest racists I’ve known have been Chinese. My ex-boss and his friends were constantly talking about “the superiority of the Asian mind”. Nicholas Kristoff had an editorial in Sunday’s NYT titled “Learning From Hispanic Americans”. He went on about how Latinx are “models of society”. OK, well, isn’t being bilingual, having a strong cultural identity, a strong ethnic identity, a strong religious identity, strong family ties, strong community ties and a strong migrant temperament—isn’t all of that a from of “privilege”? Black and most white people don’t have ANY of those assets. Stop with the fucking “white privilege” meme already.

        I would tend to agree with you since we live in a society that openly and quite vocally values and appreciates foreign non-citizens above its own citizenry. The reality is if privilege was removed from the current ruling class we may have at least a chance of survival. But while that ruling class is incentivizing citizens to fight over their own perceived privileges, the ruling class is steadily and most certainly accumulating more “privilege”.

    JK; your financial analysis is spot on. The reality is that in fall 2019 the fed was pumping REPOs into the system at massive daily amounts. The $ system was blowing up then. Now, in the name of COVID, we add 7tril$ to the system, mainly to zombie banks, and we made the immediate debt worse by about 33%, worsening the TOTAL dept of the US Corporation to something well over 167Trillion$s (no one really knows but it’s over that amount). This will NEVER be repaid and all but Elizabeth Warren (whose WSJ article argued for borrowing more $ to ‘pay for the debt’) know this. We will see all dollar denominated ‘investments,’ and govmint payouts go to zero in REAL VALUE (i.e. buying power), but not labeled amount. Weimar we are coming!!!!

In the 60’s, white liberals thought that they could shower blacks with Head Start and affirmative action and desegregation and welfare, and blacks would steadily join the rest of american society. They did not, the socio-economic gap did not close, in fact arguably the portion of blacks living in inner cities is in worse shape than ever. Liberals did everything according to the leftist handbook and it just made matters worse. That fact is what is driving them increasingly shrill and unhinged.

    The fact that democrat black mayors in democrat cities in democrat states have been trying democrat policies for decades and things just keep getting worse does not trouble them in the least. As good ideologues having to face the failure of their ideology do, they bravely decided that if the ideology failed, the solution is to double down with more ideology, denounce the saboteurs, traitors and counterrevolutionaries, send them to reeducation camps, hold public humiliation rituals.

        The problem is how to make the split. The different ethnic groups are separated along wealth lines now. There is no separate geographic area, like a state or a region, that is one group or another. How to slice the pie?

        Think of India during the Ghandi times. Hindus and Muslims could not coexist so they separated into two , now three, countries. They have been fighting ever since. The India-Pakistan border may be showing us that separation does not work either.

        Say the US split with a Black part, a White part, A Hispanic part and an Asian part. We know what will happen with the flow of wealth. As one area gets richer, the neighbors will try to take away the wealth by force. Think Israel and Palestine.

        It IS the human condition. It makes War the favorite human activity.

        Haves and Have nots are what makes the world go around, always has been that way, always will.

          Oh absolutely! It is not as if a breakup would per se prevent war. However, I do believe that ultimately and likely over time, such a situation would see a decrease in violence and conflict. India and Pakistan have always had their conflicts. Could this new conflict with China however unite India and Pakistan since China represents a threat to both? But either way, separation doesn’t mean war ends altogether. Nor does it mean that class issues will suddenly go away. But, many other aggravating factors will be taken off the table and I believe will make it better for everyone. Unfortunately the elites will not allow this to happen without a huge war. They will not allow it to happen peacefully.

            More important than raw numbers is the distribution. Ruralia is largely White or Hispanic, depending on region, and ruralites are far more likely to survive an extended collapse of the imperial supply chain than the urban dwellers.

            Some decades hence, if hard times are ahead, the majority of Black Americans extant may very well be the ones who never left the black belt.

            Regardless, I cannot see a future where the lower 48 remain a single Union should too many more cracks appear in the support beams.

      I look at it a little differently. Western Civilization has always thrived when challenged. There have been existential crises from the beginning (the two most notable are those resolved by the Battle of Salamis in 480 BC and the Battle of Tours in 732 AD but there have been others… including the situation we’re in now). I think whites have gotten very complacent and taken for granted the remarkable culture bequeathed to them. The glutton doesn’t appreciate food until it starts to become a little scarce and I believe a similar dynamic is underway.

      I say all the following as a parent who walks this walk: Teach your son the endless inventions and innovations of his culture. Teach him biological realities. Teach him historical realities. Teach him the pride that has existed since the beginning of time of a people for its culture. Do not assume the fifth column that much of American education has become will do this. Be courageous in expressing your views-the charge of racism without any evidence of racism is simply an attempt to silence, nothing more, and the Christopher Hitchen’s dictum applies: an argument presented without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

      One thing these monsters in the streets have done is to put the battle lines in pretty stark contrast and that’s a very good thing. Those who might previously have straddled the fence can clearly see what’s at stake. There’s no halfway position in this fight.

    Excellent article today and I agree with all of it, including the next Democrat held electoral win at the polls come election time. Moreover, I agree that BLM is a Colour Revolution funded by the left controlled oligopoly & oligarchs like Soros.

    I have to agree that the whole political party apparatus is corrupt to the core whereby one opts for the devil the know as opposed to the one they don’t.

    Lastly, I was listening to Short Wave Radio last night and the dolts de jour were claiming that the George Floyd murder was staged and that George Floyd was not really killed by police. I decided that I had heard enough SWR and turned the radio off to go to sleep knowing that real ignorant hillbillies are dashing for conspiracy as their saviour for 2020.

If Summers is advocating for renewed legislation to undergird unionized employment and strength for Front Line Workers throughout the pandemic of COVID-19 you can bet your bottom dollar USD that that is what is going to manifest in due course for policy in 2021 as Democrats attempt to stop the unruly masses of demonstrators from rebellion.

        I, on the other hand, will always be a rebel without a cause, but a rebel none-the-less because I was a Punk Rock drummer back in my formative years of delinquency at the height of rebellion in the late 70s Punk scene where we were all Ramones till the day we die.

            The Royal Canadian Mounted Police asked us to shut up, and go home as well when we played an outdoor gig on Federal Government of CANADA land at the Vincent Massey Park Band Shell in 1979.

            I only seem like an unlikely Punk Rock drummer because that was another life before I realized being a Grumpy Marxist was more fun that being a Punk Rock drummer.

            Stirring up shit takes real education these days as merely having double Marshall stacks and 100 Watt amplifiers is not enough to cause anarchy whereas in my day back during the height of the Punk Rock era we played with police departments and personnel with Watts instead of foolish anarchy which would have landed us in the klink without even a drink.

            Rebellion is my nature because I was ordered to stay out of trouble by my Chartered Accountant father for my entire lifetime. That means I cannot break the laws of the land, but if I’m smart I can still stir up shit for shit-storm purposes, Q.

            I have BETAMAX tape of my punk band playing the first simulcast for Ottawa Cablevision on Richmond Road and Carleton University’s CKCU Radio FM Network where my band and CKCU/Ottawa Cablevision did the first simulcast in stereo via CKCU FM Radio and Ottawa Cablevision television.

            The program was entitled ‘No one came’ and it was an Ottawa cable television show that enlisted local bands to play for an hour whilst being interviewed by the local cheesy newscaster that eventually wound up being fired from network cartel television because he refused to cover the Iraq War thinking he would not survive it if embedded with anyone other than Almighty instead of the PBR Streetgang if you get my Apocalypse Now reference to military.

            I have pictures of me & bandmates renting a limo, and government records would indicate that the Friction City Bugs played the Vincent Massey Bandshell on April 27 Saturday 1979 where the Government of CANADA had to supply the bandshell with 220v Electrical Service and requisite policing for the event.

            We paid Wall of Sound’s Terry Wall for the 10,000 Watts of amplification, and Neptune Analyzer, Base Bins, Mid Bins, Horns, Tweeters, and Relays, plus mics & stands & monitors too. And that damn sound man had to be there because we had to pay him too, Night but not smart Owl. The park & Arboretum sound measurement was done with the Neptune Analyzer at that time in history. Today, things are different in that rock bands are pushing one million Watts instead of the mere 10,000 I was playing with back in 1979.

            P.S. I bought my socks at the dollar store. I never mentioned Ovation Guitars but we did have a second act musician with an Ovation guitar for the half time show where my band took a beer, smoke, and reefer break to admire the crowd and shiny police cars provided for free by the government.

            Free electricity.
            Free policing.
            Free band shell.
            Free parking.

            There was a $35 dollar permit that we had to pay for too in order to get the band shell booked.

I’m an artist at heart due to music, and drums/percussion & Gene Krupa who was Benny Goodman’s drummer of infamy in that he was the pot-head drummer in his day that had to take career hits for being a jazz man pot-head criticized widely for his reefers & concomitant ‘Reefer Madness’.

      I grew up in the Bronx , from the 60’s thru the late 70’s. and spent my entire adult life working there. The Bronx now has a white population in the low single digits, with most of those being Albanians and a few Ukrainians. My parents, both being NYC public school teachers, knew what the deal was, so it was private schools for their kids. They sent me to a private school run by the Christian brothers off of the grand concourse near Yankee stadium until I was attacked one day by a group of the sainted demographic. That was in 1972, so things were going south even then. After that, it was private school in Westchester. Interestingly, there was a kid in my class there in the Bronx, who I found out years later had his house bombed by the Weather underground ( specifically by Obama’s mentor Bill Ayres) because his father was a federal judge. By that time everyone knew I would be retiring, so there wasn’t anything anyone could do to me anyway, but nobody in the room had any idea who Ayers really was. The Bronx up until the mid 60’s was a paradise. My Grandmother had an apartment on the Grand concourse just north of Fordham road that had a fireplace and sunken living room. It was like Park Ave. in Manhattan. The Irish, Italians and Jews of the Bronx all became upper and middle class Americans within one generation, while those that occupy that space now are largely a multi-generational permanent underclass.

        I stayed near Pelham Park. Walked around for 2 days. Felt completely safe. Not that many blacks there, if any. Mostly Italians and their shops. The population relatively young, with many middle class whites renters that have good jobs in Manhattan. I stayed with one such couple. It was a nice clean walkable neighborhood.

        The gangland daylight shooting and executions the nighttime fireworks shooting the Jihadi crowd riot and arson attacks the nightly terrors with the police made deliberately absent are all tactics copied from Eurabia. They’re still perfecting them. People are being colonized and driven out. Everything they worked and saved for will be had at pennies on the dollar, and they’ll be glad to be out of there alive.

        Not a bot, not an “it”, just an elderly woman who has been protesting against injustice against people and the land for most of my long and interesting life. I went to my first protest in 1965 when the US set off nuclear test explosions in the Aleutian Islands, a protest where I was almost run over at the Canada/US border by someone who didn’t like us blocking the border and who really liked nuclear bombs. I’ve protested against every war since then, and I’ve never stopped speaking up when I see unfairness and injustice or inequality and corruption, or when I see the planet we all depend on being ruined for greed and to support the unsustainable lifestyles that most people seem to want. It breaks my heart when I think of all the good that could have been done in this world if trillions of dollars hadn’t been spent on war and weapons used to subjugate people who don’t happen to live the way other people think they should. I think everybody should have healthcare and a decent roof over their heads, and that three people shouldn’t be able to have as much wealth as the bottom 50% of the country. I live a simple life, grow a lot of food for myself and our local food bank, used to be an organic farmer before I got too old, and I’ve never been paid by a political party or George Soros or anyone else to go to a protest, even though it sometimes cost me quite a bit of money to get there. I donate whatever I can spare from my very modest income to help the homeless and support organizations that are trying preserve the earth from destruction. I’ve watched as the rich got richer and everybody else got poorer, while those in government of whatever party lived the high life and made sure their pals got to skim off the cream off while everybody else got the dregs. I’ve watched schoolkids go hungry while politicians flew around in private jets, and watched people living in the streets while others own multiple homes in different parts of the world that they fly to in their private jets. I’ve watched indigenous people and people of colour and people of various religions and sexual orientations be treated as second-class human beings by those who think they’re superior to them for whatever reason they can come up with. I’ve watched women fight for the right to vote and to be able to open a bank account and get a credit card and own property. I’ve watched a good portion of the planet and millions of species be destroyed for greed and power, and sometimes even just for fun. I’ve seen the human population go from a bit over 2 billion to 7.8 billion as humans have overrun this beautiful planet and claimed nearly all of it for ourselves, with complete disregard for the needs of the other species we share it with. It’s been a long strange trip and I’m at the point where I honestly don’t care if the human species survives because we are probably too stupid to make a go of it on Planet Earth without killing off everything else, and that really wouldn’t be fair or just.

            It is not (just) the state thugs, the police, that have to go, but the state itself if humans cannot figure out how to make it work for everyone.

            Meanwhile we allow ourselves to let it and its assorted businesses to peddle and pimp us for our taxes, profit and mindless loyalty.

            At the very least, if you consider the butterfly effect, this is not a recipe for success over the long haul.

    My take: only a major shock, i.e. war, revolution, financial collapse, will put an end to the pernicious rackets that dominate our social / economic life. This will require personal and social change sufficient to create a culture of mutual commitment and trust. The elites especially will have to work hard to regain the trust we once held for them or face inevitable culling from the body politic.

      America can’t even identify who their enemy is. A culture of mutual commitment and trust can’t grow without understanding who and what the enemy really and truly is. Our American future will now be an ever growing spiral of growing mistrust as the megamachine of empire determines our fate.     13. Rationed medical care. Let the old continue to die; don’t treat them.

    17. Cascading effects of collapsed consumerism. Lots of those.
    18. Total collapse of justice system; criminals roam free.

        Adorno is not a communist theorist at all. He is a founder of queer theory. Gramsci attempted to break from traditional Marxist thought and is considered a neo-Marxist.

        I am an opponent of the Cloward and Piven strategy and while I agree with John McWhorter that the strategy “created generations of black people for whom working for a living is an abstraction” I don’t think he goes far enough. The damage has not been limited to black people. They have suffered the most from the Cloward and Piven strategy but truth is all America has suffered.

    Growing up in Birmingham, AL, I have taken a number of State Dept visitors to the Civil Rights Museum on 16th St. in that city. Since I was born there and remember the “Troubles”, it is always interesting to see pictures of those days. What strikes me now is the number of pictures of the segregated black businesses and social groups with their 1950’s clothes and amazing hats just like the Rotary, Kiwanis, and garden clubs that my parents participated in. I recall when Condi Rice (from B’ham) became the White House Nat’l Security Advisor for Bush and the pictures in Newsweek of her childhood showed all the places we white children frequented: the skating rink, the piano teacher in Crestline Village, the Alabama Theater— but on a different day. She had attentive black parents and was obviously successful. But Integration of the schools eliminated the black teachers and the black schools that cared about the black students. Why didn’t the white teachers care as much about their new black students? Incorrigible racism end of story? The black businesses on 12th Avenue N shrank and disappeared as the black customers deserted them. And then the steel mills closed sending the coal from Walker County and the iron ore from Red Mountain to Japan and the new post war furnaces there…….Working class jobs disappeared, black and white.
    Consider how fast this cultural transition was: Sit-ins 1958-62, firehoses, 1963 bombing, 1964 Civil Rights Act, 1965 Voting Rights, 1968- US Steel leaves and the 1970 Environmental Movement makes US steel mills uncompetitive.
    Eight years to change my grandmother with her colored help to a modern unprejudiced believer in the New South. My parents were believers in change. Democrats were of course the reactionary status quo(Strom Thurmond Dixiecrats) and my parents were the Rockefeller Republicans. My grandmother was a yellow dog Democrat: from Wilson to FDR to even (uncomfortably) Kennedy. My parents were in to change…..
    I highlight this as a Southern take on JHK and his “mirror economy”. To say that it worked would be presumptuous but to say what has transpired since then has worked would be foolish. To even conceptualize what could work in a time of industrial decline and cultural confusion is almost “inconceivable”.

        B’ham is a livable city with A/C. It’s heydey was 1880-1930 so it’s a little old and shabby now but the young people have moved into a few pockets to try their hand at gentrification. Like most Southern cities, it’s post WWII growth was ruined by the car. White flight didn’t help either. Jobs are healthcare, finance and education. It’s not known for “technology”. My kids liked living there. Goldman-Sachs sold the county commission some complicated bond derivative product for ‘extra return’ (which God knows they could have used) but it blew up in GFC08 and bankrupted them. I am fond of the Magic City but it is not returning to its former glory before the civil rights disturbances and now the long emergency. Too much old infrastructure to re-purpose…..

        I was by it yesterday. It is far from gone and it could start back up easy.

        I’d advise not coming up here to watch/video the show. Bullets have been flying and to be safe from bullets you have to be far away. CHAZ/CHOP is city streets and a small park. No safe place.

        Squatters in the park have been placed to rush to the barricades if anything less than overwhelming force were to take the streets back.

        In this particular situation I’d use overwhelming force so nobody gets hurt. Bikers showing up is an outside chance but it is a possibility. Better the CHAZ/CHOP go away and a serious plan to address grievances is put in place so it does not want to come back. I’d use the national guard.

        Already too many guns have been fired. We don’t need bikers showing up with more.

          Yes, I think it’s a Very Bad Idea, regardless of the outcome the optics would not be good and bikers have a bad enough reputation already. You probably heard the details of the latest incident, three young black men in a stolen vehicle drove into the encampment at 3 am and opened fire, the CHOP non-police department returned fire killing two and leaving one in critical condition. But of course it could have happened anywhere, it has nothing to do with the BLM/Antifa occupation.

            Yes but not before I made the rounds here. News I get on our local news is two teenagers in a jeep Cherokee were shot.

            Apparently earlier in the evening the Cherokee had shown up driving donuts around the soccer field and left. Video was shown.

            Then later when only fools and lone travelers lurk about in the wee AM the jeep Cherokee returned and apparently: (I’m beginning to take liberties here) Some bangers started singing.

            The Cherokee is after me and I’m not singing a happy song.

            The Cherokee smashes into a barricade and the 16 year old driver is dead and a 14 year old boy is in critical condition. The crime is unsolvable and a crowd goes through the Cherokee before police arrive. Video of the Cherokee is shown.

            I took liberties because the race of the driver and shooting victim was not disclosed in our 5PM news.

            I don’t where you got ‘three young black men’ but oh well, reality is as we know these days, a moving target.

            Q: My parents decided that I should pay for my last year of university. They believed that I would gain more appreciation through monetary contribution. I’m not sure if it worked as intended, but I did learn how to deal with a certain segment of society.

            I worked menial jobs between my university hours: warehouse, beer distribution, etc.

            I quickly learned that the working class do not respond to reason alone. They do not respond to nuance. They do not read between the lines. Nor do they respect this approach.

    I’m all for ending racism of every sort; be it systemic, structural, residual, or whatever we call it.

    But as H.L.Mencken once said: “For every problem, there is a solution that is simple, neat, and wrong.”

    Reparations for black people fits Mencken’s model; simple, neat and WRONG.

    Why?

    Because black people are not the only demographic exploited and ground into the dust by greed and lust. Slave-owning plantation operators certainly exploited slaves to the max; that’s the clearest example, and by far the worst.

    But business and corporate entities are almost as guilty. American labor history is replete with horrors perpetrated against people regardless of sex, race, national origin and age. Read “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair.

    Point of all this is to say that ALL poor working stiffs in this country have been used and abused and if “reparations” go only to black people then that is preferential treatment and is DOA in Congress — as it should be.

    Further, it’s a fools errand to try and calculate what’s a ‘fair’ reparation? How do we measure the harm done? How can we put a price on it? Who deserves it? Who doesn’t? It would be a never ending shitshow of slicing and dicing and pricing with a cast of characters clamoring for more more more — the hubbub will never end.

    People of any race, age or sex have been used and abused for generations by toxic capitalism (slavery being the worst example) and if we are to be fair then all of aggrieved peoples deserve consideration.

    But what form of consideration?

    Reparations are politically DOA, not only because it focuses on only one group, but also because it’s backwards focused — we can’t fix the ancient crimes.

    Instead of reparations I prefer we “pay it forward” (PIF) as the saying goes. The PIF that I favor is to pay for college for all citizens who live in households below a certain financial level — regardless of color. IMO this is the best we can do, the best way to be fair to all.

    Let’s take Bernie Sanders’ idea to fund college educations, up to $50k per person, to build an educated population going forward. Reparations is backward looking while college (and trade school) funding is forward looking. We can’t fix the past; but we can and must build a much better future nation if all poor kids can get a break. I know grinding poverty from the inside, poor kids have to have someone in their corner since most parents aren’t able to help them.

    The alternative of keeping the status quo, to do nothing, means we will keep spending $100k per person, per year, to incarcerate the poor.

    We can pay it now or we can pay it later, but for damned sure are going to pay — one way or another.

    Choose wisely.

      I would not be opposed to your idea at all, except for that we don’t need more kids in college. We need them in technical training schools. Training for real skills of all kinds. Colleges are just useless degree mills at best, liberal indoctrination camps at worst. Unless they are going to be learning engineering, medicine, computer science or otherwise, I don’t want my taxes paying for it.

He put in 3 semesters (mainly to avoid the draft, I believe) until they threw him out. He had a 1.25 GPA and that was with all fluff courses. Hands-on labor education is the better answer.

      Like a lot of ideas that started with the best of intentions and hope, providing an education for all would end in disaster. Online so-called learning is a cash cow for the schools and would not provide an education but yet another boondoggle for taxpayers. If 75% of the courses were in person, attendance taken and standards for staying in college raised it might work. I worked with a nurse who got a “degree” from the University of Phoenix that even the US government finally refused to use GI benefits to pay for and she knew nothing.

        SW–that sounds like UOP. I was faculty there for 15 years (not in Nursing). I taught in the classroom. I had multiple complaints over the years as I did not mind maintaining academic rigor as I already had a full time job and was not dependent on my UOP job. I could be honest, but faculty evaluations also carried a lot of weight. If your evaluations sucked (as they do from students that fail, get poor grades) then you would not get any more classes.

        However, I would get students 1 to 2 years into their Bachelor’s degree and they could not compose a simple sentence. There were some papers I literally could not grade as they were incomprehensible. BTW, these were students that had graduated from San Diego high schools.

        Almost all ESL students, Spanish speaking.

        This happened ALL the time and their lack of writing skills and reading comprehension was a frequent faculty complaint. Even if they failed my class, I would see them at graduation and wonder how that happened.

        I also busted a lot of them on plagiarism. Still they graduated. You got 3 chances at UOP if you plagiarized. Even deliberate plagiarism did not necessarily mean the student would fail the class.

        It was a real racket. UOP was making money hand over fist. Then the government stopped funding the GI bills for UOP and multiple garbage degrees in which students would get out of school and couldn’t get a job paying minimum wage. Then, they defaulted on their loans. Three years at UOP could cost almost $50K.

        It would be my guess that they will not survive the shutdown.

      We threw off the king’s rule, but remained economically colonized and to some extent we are to this day.

      Southerners never understood that slavery made them de facto colonies of England. British (and Dutch) sea captains brought slaves to the USA and took cotton (and tobacco) to London. The colony aspect is that slave plantations did the dirty work of slavery to grow a commodity crop for export to England where British textile mills turned raw cotton into valuable finished goods.  

      America did the dirty work, England made and sold value-added textile products to the world. Without firing a shot the Brits continued the colonization of the south for almost 80 years after our revolution. Few recognize it for what it really was. They set us up with racism that divides us to this day as they laugh all the way to the bank. They go to the bank, we go to each other’s throats. Divide and conquer is a game the Brits have expertly played on the world stage for centuries.

      These days we pump our diminishing aquifers dry in TX and AZ to grow cotton that we export to British-owned textile plants in India. We never learn. We grow cotton with immigrant Mexican farm workers who put costs on our schools and social services and then we go at each other’s throats over immigration — as British firms make profits and laugh at us.

      American farmers are a colony of China, growing mountains of soy beans for shipment to China where they turn our crops into higher value goods; like farm-raised fish they sell back to us. Every year hundreds of millions of tons of our topsoil washes down the Mississippi River system to the Delta so we can grow soybeans like poor peasant farmers hoping for a good year once in a while to pay the damned bills.

      People need to think things through, follow the money, who benefits…

    IMO, what commenters are missing and not taking into account is human nature. People have some innate characteristics that give rise to our current situation. We are not perfect creatures, only God is. We’re wired to try to dominate over others, to accumulate power and resources. As a species, we can’t avoid our genetic heritage.

    That’s why discussing forms of government is useless. No matter if America ends up Marxist, communistic, democratic, socialistic or any form of government, we will eventually follow our tendencies and end up where we are today. To resolve our issues – xenophobia, racism, inequality, overpopulation, the drive to power and unreasonable accumulation, among others – we need to change ourselves first. Otherwise we will never reach the stars.

    To be honest, I’m not confident we can do this.

    You used to hear it more often, but you still hear it trumpeted with fierce conviction: “The answer for minorities is more and higher education.”

    In 2018, 37% of 18 – 24 y o Blacks attended college (just 5% fewer than Whites). So, affirmative action, cratering marking standards, preferential enrollment gatekeeping, soft (to be more blunt, bogus) new courses with attendant self-esteem babysitters for profs … none of it matters. They either hang around and graduate (as long as they manage to hand in papers of subpar quality, and attend a minimum number of classes), or drop out with debt and increasing resentment.

    The same issue involves Whites, as well, but for different reasons. Their agility with language, past-present-future logistics, symbol associations, and understanding of debating protocol are clearly higher than Blacks, in the aggregate, but they’re being infected, at an alarming rate, by the turgid bullshit of repurposed French theory and simple-minded activism.

    You want a laugh or a good cry (depending on your natural predilection or mood)? Google any university or college, and peruse the course titles for any of the department of humanities. If you want to tear your (remaining) hair out, then go to sites where they list the annual salaries and bonuses of these charlatan ‘teachers’.

    University education was founded on the idea that only a select number of young people were up to the task of running through and excelling in a strict, difficult curricula of classic courses. And those few who passed the demanding entrance requirements were pushed hard by their often brilliant professors.

    One of the only good results I can foresee in the gathering madness is that these shameful institutions will go belly up in the coming financial apocalypse, and their callow offspring will reflect long and hard about how it all went wrong that equality of outcome was achieved at the level of equality of nothing.

          My guess is that insurers are going to be sending corporate boards their own directives for insurance policy purposes. And we all know that major insurance companies don’t like risk at all and are averse to underwriting it in instances like this where sovereign nations are mucking around with biohazards that can wipe out humanity faster than you can say ‘Where’s the beef’.

          At this juncture I think NATO is finished outright along with half of the USA arms dealers & suppliers of all things technology.

    Well, I should not, because such a government is clearly my existential enemy.

Instead, contrariwise, the involvement of the government in the enforcement of plans for ending segergation/enforcing integration* have been the opposite, it has clearly been an immoral imperative as it has enslaved – by literal law and force – one portion of society to achieving the social ends of another.

      Anyway – in the real world there are thousands of housing estates, hotels, workplaces, beaches, bars, country clubs – and much else – where de facto segregation works day in and day out.

      So no – I don’t think anyone gets a free pass on the grounds that free association can exclude whomever a group wants … churches for example have done that for centuries, claiming a special status to discriminate fiercely against all manner of minorities.

      You may not believe that a baker should be forced to make a wedding cake for a gay couple, on religious or any other grounds, but I think in a decent society most people don’t agree with you.

        That building was built in the 90s. It was a strange trend in architecture then to build surrealistic buildings and we got some examples of that. Most Israeli building stock is very old and rundown Soviet style communals. Until about the 90s, the socialist government was the main builder and supplier of mortgages. People were basically housed in cheap affordable housing. This allowed an almost 100% home ownership rate. After 40+ years these buildings are falling apart and are being replaced with nice mid rise buildings. The old owners get and new lager apartment and the developers get very cheap land to build on. A win-win for all. Almost. The new apartments now cost 2x to 3x more than the old, and new couples have a very hard time affording them.

            Yes, exactly. The center of the country is becoming too expensive and couples with kids are moving to the more periphery satellite towns. This higher density has now allowed the simultaneous construction of 4 subways lines in the greater Tel Aviv metro area and the upgrade of rail lines between cities, so that people can live in Haifa for example where prices are 40% cheaper and be within a 40min commute to an office in Tel Aviv. We’re also seeing a massive exodus of businesses relocating into the periphery so that in many cases even that commute becomes unnecessary. I think overall the urban renewal program in Israel has been very successful, although rather slow. But it’s now starting to up some pace.

      My God that was filmed in the winter? A nice place to spend the winter then. Reminds me ofTorremolinos in southern Spain, where my wife’s cousin has a small hotel and restaurant, without the overwhelming crowds tho, but then again both places are in the Mediterrenean. Paul Theroux in his book ‘Pillars of Hercules’, comments Israel has an ‘uncrowded’ feel about it, similar to what Mark Twain said in the 1880s. You know Akmofo I always figured Israel was embattled and stressed as a result of being always under siege, but the videos you have posted prove otherwise. Israel appears calm, orderly, prosperous.

        The rainy season is from mid January to mid February. And when it rains it rains!

        Israel has practically no petty street crime. No property thefts, no drunks, no bar brawls, no gang shootings, nothing of that sort. You can safely walk anywhere at any time of day and night. If you lose a wallet or your smart phone and someone else found it, you can be sure every effort will be made to have it returned to you ASAP. Most all of the criminality is really by Vatican sponsored racist Jihadists, and the security agencies are very good at keeping it check.

        The infection numbers have gone up as testing has gone up. Deaths have gone way down, and were never high to begin with, outside of places where they put Corona victims into nursing homes.

          Well, I have the TV news on here right now, and every story is a hair raising one about some aspect of Covid-19, the only deviation being laudatory segments on the removal of Columbus monuments, blips on yet more people shot in the ‘community’ in Hartford and New Haven, and more BLM protests in small Ct towns with virtually no black residents. (which apparently makes them even more praiseworthy)

          Two weeks ago Covid-19 wasn’t even mentioned, it was wall to wall George Floyd coverage, with reports of righteous looting and burning, which incidentally, we had coming.

          It seems like one big orchestrated propaganda campaign. I mean there’s no official Ministry of Propaganda here, but there might as well be. What’s the difference?

            Point is that he isn’t old or young. I do agree that mortality rate will drop as testing increases, and more cases are in the younger (no cares) demo. Hospital admissions are spiking right now. Deaths will surely accelerate but not at the same rate as active cases. But the rate of death will remain far higher than yearly influenza waves. And clearly asymptomatic transmission is a huge problem that will take the virus from younger cases to their older relatives. This is not a hoax. And by saying that you do a major disrespect to healthcare professionals putting in emotionally fraught and back breaking hours as well as those who have lost loved one due to the simpleton and conflicting policy decisions of this government.

If the “heroic nurses” in the Covid hospitals are overworked, then why don’t theygive the laid off nurses some of their shifts. If the Covid ICU’s are overwhelmed, make another Covid hospital or two.

            Please remember, people are tired, unhappy, and overworked to begin with. Desperate emergency is the default setting of much of Ameirca. Women love drama and are good at the water works. Put a mic in front of their face in front of a camera – and it’s a Go.

            Have you even begun to calculate the deaths that will come from the lack of medical care because of the shut down? Procedures not done and tests not taken? The massive wave of homelessness and death from that? The mental health crisis? The pent up energy and leisure that is the fuel for the Marxist coup?

            Some cities are very good at conserving energy. But pointing at each other and saying ‘your tribe uses more of everything than my tribe’ doesn’t get us anywhere. We all need to be consuming less – not just consuming in greenwashed fashion.

            It goes without saying that there will be less pollution when a whole bunch of us have disappeared – although maybe that will depend on what happens to all those nuclear power plants when there’s no-one there to maintain them.

            There’s certainly some truth in that … back in the 1970s, environmental and conservation groups were headed by guys with beards and sandals, or earnest hippie chicks in big frocks. Now they’re run by suits earning $200K.

            But still – we have a great deal to be thankful for … I have watched the Australia of my lifetime go from pretty dirty and polluted to far far cleaner: farms, forests, beaches, rivers, national parks, the oceans, the cities, and the air.

            Cars are better and much cleaner, and so are buildings, buses, machines, planes, and ships. Recycling is everywhere.

            All done by lefties living in major cities … not by good ol’ boys in check shirts roaring around in dirty pick-ups persecuting defenceless furry mammals.

            No need … I know that history reasonably well – and the push from Congress came in the form of Democrats mostly – principally Henry Jackson and George Miller.

            There was a lot of pressure right through the late 60s and 1970s to legislate on the environment … the Environmental Protection Agency was a belated creation by Nixon (when he knew which way the wind was blowing) – but the overwhelming pressure for such a response was from urban lefties.

            If Nixon hadn’t approved the EPA, there might have been something substantially more robust put in place not long afterwards.

    What happened to the tons of splendid booty looted from 10,000 shops coast to coast just a few weeks ago? Where is it? Is it being shared fairly and equitably in ‘Communities’, passed around to the troops like soldiers pay? Or is it being hoarded. It was one hell of a shopping spree and there must be enough flat screen TVs and pairs of sneakers out there to last a year. I was told if I want a new flatscreen just check out Craigslist, no questions asked. Plenty of jewelry stores and pawn shops looted too, in fact they were the first targets. Few escaped. (One in the Bronx, particularly tragic, elderly Korean couple beat nearly to death) You’ll be seeing an array of shiney new baubles proudly being sported around the Community just in time for summer.

    Apropos everything BUSHWICK — a film from 2017- is now on Amazon. My wife learned of it from NYT article on Movies off the beaten track. Kinda depicts what might happen on the streets when TSHTF for real. In this case an attempted invasion of Bushwick (That’s Brooklyn NYC) by… ah I cannot give away the plot, which is thin enough. It grossed $79,000 world wide and was roundly panned by the critics.

    The critics absolutely missed the meaning: it was a camp depiction of civil war, circa 2017. I have rarely laughed so hard than at the final attempts of the remaining protagonists to make it through to the DMZ. Instead of pitchforks imagine lacrosse sticks — or, what nearly caused my heart to stop — a silhouette running with a tennis racket as small arms fire crackles about, the female lead lying on the ground, just shot dead. There’s more but I dare not go any further.

    Of a sudden, the GOP’s 53-47 Senate majority could — theoretically — lose 10 members. Maine, Colorado, Arizona and North Carolina are acknowledged problems. But Georgia (which has two seats open this year because Sen. Johnny Isakson resigned for health reasons), Iowa, and Montana are newer problems, and the GOP has a uniquely weak likely nominee in Kansas. If Trump stirs a wave of repudiation, even Kentucky’s Mitch McConnell, Texas’ John Cornyn or South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham could get wet.

    The 2022 Senate map is worse for Republicans. Iowa’s Chuck Grassley will be 89, Pennsylvania’s Pat Toomey wants to run for governor, and North Carolina’s Richard Burr must explain stock trades possibly based on inside information about coronavirus. Democrats need to defend just 12 seats, all in blue strongholds.

    The worst part for the GOP is that old white guys — those of whom Trump said, “I love the poorly educated” — still dominate the party. The path to GOP primary victory in 2022 runs through distaste for social norms (like abortion choice and multiculturalism) 40 to 50 years deep in mainstream culture, plus reality denialism. That’s why the GOP is likely to produce more Senate nominees — and a presidential nominee for 2024 — who struggle in November.

    Despite Trump’s claims that everything he does is unique, we’ve seen this before. The best example (better even than Herbert Hoover) is 1896, when Democrats nominated William Jennings Bryan to fight for the interests of farmers in a nation turned urban and industrial.

    Bryan got buried, and buried every Democratic nominee but one for 36 years, because he was as out of step with America’s turn-of-the-century transformation as Trump is now.

    The way the Democrats really killed themselves was nominating Bryan again — in 1900 and 1908 — to make sure no one forgot they were out of touch.

    Like Democrats then, Republicans are falling over themselves to be the Trumpiest now, building paper trails to sink Sens. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio and for United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley whenever they run for president.

    And President Mike Pence? Oh, mother!

            Have you seen fotos of Iranian girls just 50 years ago? They wore miniskirts back then. Today they wear black bags covering from head to toe. The same in Egypt. The same in Syria. The same in Lebanon. Etcetera.

            Today Muslims are about 5% of the British population. By 2050 they are projected to account for 13 mil of 66 mil, that’s without accounting for further immigration. That’s already 20% of total. Everywhere where the population of Muslims crossed the 15% threshold, the society quickly descended into permanent decline and Islamization.

            You making a very serious mistake judging the future by the present and not taking into account serious historical trends and their consequences, that have repeated themselves over and over again.

            Life isn’t just what we do but what we don’t do. Not just what we say, but what we don’t say, but which the statement implies.

            If you say Black Lives Matter and reject All Lives Matter, then you are a Black Supremacist by implication – even if you never say it.

            And if you are fine with Muslims being in Britain, and hate those who fight against it (like Tommy Robinson), by implication, you want Muslims in Britain and presumably (unless you are a NIMBY hypocrite, your own city as well.             I am not a NIMBY in that I have Muslim neighbours and they cause neither me nor anyone else any bother. They tend to have high aspirations for their children, and not for them to become Jihadis. Many Muslims are in the UK and Europe precisely to escape Jihadis.

            I am not a hypocrite either because I can tell you quite openly that I would not like to live in a street that was 90% Asians or anything else, unless I were living in Asia. I am happy with a situation where Europeans (because my street has German, French and other folks in it too, also in very small numbers) are in large majority. But I will not listen to demented nonsense trying to tell me that 1.4% of the current population is going to lead to sharia law within my grandson’s lifetime, because it is idiocy.

            I did not advocate for any Muslims at all to come here or to England, but neither did I advocate for the UK to take over half the world, steal its stuff and create the dynamic we now see. Actions have consequences.

            I have said a dozen times that I consider the Home Office’s priority should have been to reduce non-EU immigration over internal EU migration, the former having always been greater than the latter.

    In the City of Boston, the council has voted to unceremoniously remove the elegant Abraham Lincoln Memorial.

    Not sure what will replace it, the pedestal will still be there. Some have suggested a statue resembling George Floyd — St George. But what would it look like? A prostrate St George, subdued by the police, a victim of systemic racism, or gangsta Big George, holding a cowering pregnant women at gunpoint while his posse ransacks her apartment?

    Boston City Council is welcoming input from The Community, People of Color, LBGQT, young people and so on. Note: Whitey need not submit any suggestions.

          If some of us are fighting over statues, it seems that we’ve lost our priorities.

          At the risk of offending ponies, statues are, at best, one-trick ponies compared with ponies, or trees for that matter.

          The more trees (and other forms of natural diversity that we might be able to help coax/nurture along) we have likely the better, and for practically everything.

          I’ll be learning my trees this summer by the way.
