Neil Howe is a renowned author and speaker on economic, demographic, and social change in America. He is the nation’s leading authority on social generations—who they are, what motivates them, and how they will shape America’s future. Howe is the originator of the term “Millennial Generation” and has written over a dozen books on generations and generational research, a ?eld of research he single-handedly invented. His landmark 1997 book The Fourth Turning (co-authored with the late William Strauss), has become an indispensable lens for viewing world political history. Neil’s new book, The Fourth Turning is Here, will be out this summer.

What an apologist. Sickening. He would have loved Stalin, Hitler, Biden . This dude disgusts me. Real weasel. Apologist for treasonous behavior. Please. This guy is clueless.
I have been listening to The Last Europa. 12 hours plus.
Since history is written by the winners: this is the losers version.
Dear Geo, you said it more succinctly and with more good old fashioned gusto that I was able to bring to the table. Too many manners inculcated from my Mom.
Comrade Howe epitomizes the civil war 2.0 chicken hawk. Another Marxist bloviator.
Wow, I totally disagree. I thought he was able to put ‘right now’ into a historical and rhythmical context of repeating patterns throughout time. I read “The forth turning” and was quite taken by Neil Howe’s and William Strauss work at revealing these grand cycles.
Not sure his point of view or interest is in dealing with current issues of who is doing what.
All that information is easily enough got.
Maybe I will have to give another listen, but I definitely not sure he’s an apologist.
Even if he is; who cares? His contribution is the work on the “Fourth turning”
How much energy does it take time mine gold and silver? A hell of a lot more than Bitcoin. And mining Bitcoin from flared gas and methane is “green”….
Read the Bitcoin Standard. I am almost 60 and got into Bitcoin in 2015. I heard about it in 2011 when it was $29.00. The fee was $5 which I thought was to high.
Geowhizz…harsh, my man, harsh. I rather enjoyed the banter between the 2 authors. I recently read “Living in the Long Emergency”. Should be interesting to see what “The Fourth Turning is Here” has to offer.
Well Jim, I am glad that you held Neil’s feet to the fire on those select occasions. I have listened to this guy several times over the last few years and he can be amazingly boring.
Take just one issue: the CBDC. Anyone with half-a-brain can see where that could/would lead – a real dystopian world of social crediting and Big Brother. Neil Howe: “I’m not really too worried about that”. WHAT?!
He has a marvelous and very irritating ability to stand above all these mundane, mere generational phenomena – his “But Jim, we’ve seen this before during the Glorious Revolution”. Who the hell even knows what the “Glorious Revolution” was? Not me and I’m not an history ignoramous.
Sorry, but I don’t buy Neil Howe. I think the best of that team died with Bill Strauss (who had a ‘pair’) and what’s left is the weakest partner (who doesn’t see to have any).
My two centavos, or zlotys, or whatever.
see = seem
Invoking the Glorious Revolution, going back to the time of William & Mary 1688. Amazing.
Thanks for this podcast Jim. I know which book NOT to buy.
This guy is just a dishonest fool.
This guy is a extreme leftist who is suffering from severe cognitive dissonance. He is completely disconnected from our current reality, and has no sense of how far down the backside of the parabola we have fallen.
His lack of understanding of AI is particularly shocking, considering his statements claiming otherwise. He seems to see it as an advanced word processing program.
I had The Fourth Turning on my reading list. I’m scratching it off right now.
Kudos to Jim for exposing him.
an extreme leftist. 🙂
This guy spoke lots of words but said nothing. Any questions asked were side stepped or just not answered.
That’s Neil Howe alright!
Wow this guy is so lost in red vs blue, he completely misses what is really happening in the world today. The Fabian Socialist Neocon Technocrats are making their move to wipe out the middle class and live forever in their neofeudal paradise with most of us plebs poisoned to death in a horrific way. Thanks to Jim for asking the appropriate questions which he avoided like a hamster on a treadmill.
Dear May— this is the first time I’ve seen those words all together in one sentence. And especially Fabian Socialist! Most people, even politically knowledgable, have no idea who the Fabian Socialists are. And how they fit in with the WEF’s Great Re-set Agenda, which is ultimately to kill as many people as possible to get down to their target world population of half a billion.
Good interview, Jim. I hope that when the book’s out, Howe has some more specifics for likely guideposts through this particular fourth turning. He was pretty light on those, though the three he gave at the 1:04 mark were appreciated.
I’m glad you asked about RFKjr’s potential role as a Gray Champion. This is possibly the one weathervane position from the 1997 book that’s easiest to watch and identify.
Re Howe’s thoughts on AI & CBDCs — I’m not sure he is fully cognizant of the dangers here. AI is not simply a glorified Wikipedia, and tracking everyone’s financial life is not conducive to a free and innovative society.
Anyway, I’ll pre-order the book today and yell about it (for good or bad) next July.
Sure, it’s good to see the big picture but, Mr. Howe seemed to use it to sidestep current obvious threats to our basic individual freedoms and those who are doing the threatening. (Leftist marxist maniacs)
CBDCs are a perfect example. Listening to Howe you’d think it’s not that big of a deal. GoFundMe, PayPal, Trudeau etc. have shown us exactly how CBDCs will play out when you challenge the narrative.
I feel a bit mean for saying this, but Neil’s thinking seems stuck in the 90s. Back before the internet got going, when corporate managers were happy to spend stupid money on “management consultants”. Consultants who sounded impressive, with quasi intellectual ideas, but really didn’t know a whole lot about how the real world works.
Thanks Jim, for reminding me why this ‘yeah, but both sides…’ Left wing apologist should never get a penny of my money. This exposure to light is the ultimate disinfectant.
That interview was going along just great till you mentioned Trump. There was a noticeable pause where you could actually feel the TDS kicking in and then it went downhill from there. Lol. I read his book. It was interesting but boring. Yours was a much better read Jim.
Based on these negative reviews I didn’t listen to this podcast, but I did listen to Coffee & A Mike which was wonderful. The host was a very good listener and Jim was able to express himself fully on many issues. Three things he said that really caught my attention were the comments on the trucking system being 25% idle and Big Box stores not ordering goods, and also society giving a ‘certain demographic’ permission to do the wholesale looting being carried out. That is an absolute bullseye. I also loved the comment about Joe Biden being a ‘blank cartridge of a President’. So funny. I wish Jim was my neighbour and I could have beer with him every evening watching the sun go down. He’s just so damned interesting….
