David Collum is the Betty R. Miller Professor of Chemistry at Cornell University. He is the intellectual utility infielder of internet commentary, covering all the bases: culture, politics, finance, and technology, with often surprising views on the the predicaments of our time. Here we attempt to make sense of the fast-moving corona virus story and the increasingly weird and troubling second-order events spinning off of it into the global economy and fractious American politics du jour. His Twitter feed is always edifying.
The KunstlerCast theme music is the beautiful Two Rivers Waltz written and performed by Larry Unger.

What are the names of the 2 Vegas Shooting documentaries mentioned near the beginning of the podcast?
Interesting interview with someone who has a difficult voice to suffer through, but hey, that’s not his fault. 🙂
I found it surprising that somebody who is so well read and has slowly come around to understanding that many consipiracies are quite real, brushes off Area 51 and alien crafts. That’s a very strange naivete concerning a well supported ‘conspiracy’.
Great discussion!
I love the way Dave puzzles over a given situation and finally admits Damfino!
I do a lot of the same these days. Hearing a guy that smart coming to the same conclusion is reassuring.
Governments ARE making war on their own people. Very startling that a few governments are now trying to shut down fertilizer production. This is most likely a WEF or Davos directed process.
Canada, the Netherlands and Sri Lanka are first on the list to have started implementation.
This could be the ultimate ploy behind the Deagel predictions.
What’s the future of GMs new Cadillac EV, MSRP $300,000? All things considered I’m thinking not too many will be sold, and GM execs will be showing up in DC, begging for another bailout.
Your description of Dave as “the intellectual utility infielder of internet commentary” is absolutely the best. I thoroughly enjoyed the podcast. Thank you.
I always enjoy your talk with Dave Collum. I followed you Jim since 1998 when I was learning to use the internet at the library in Las Vegas and then you had only 30 mins then had to sign up again as so many transplants who just moved were in line to use them. I picked up one of your books “Geography to Nowhere” by chance and started to read it while waiting my turn. I then stumbled upon a post or essay of yours on the Oil Drum or Energy Bulletin and have enjoyed your work ever since. Being just a year shorter in the tooth than you we have traveled the same era and can relate to an interesting age. Stay Healthy the country needs your insights.

Listened to Jim’s interview with David Collum this morning, and I have to admit to being a little surprised he (David) only recently knew about what has been going on in the past that led up to war in Ukraine. The documentary Ukraine on Fire came out in 2015. You can watch it at watchdocumentaries.com
Then there is this: ‘Amnesty International has accused Ukraine of war crimes during its ongoing military conflict with invading Russian forces. The humanitarian organization said in a release on Wednesday that the Ukrainian military’s tactics “violate international humanitarian law and endanger civilians” by operating weapons out of bases established in residential areas while civilians are present.’ Guess that won’t make the front pages of any woke, self serving new outlet in the land of ‘American Exceptionalism’.
I think America is a great country, and I like having the US as our neighbour. Incredible accomplishments as a country. So good at so many things. Self awareness just isn’t one of them. Buckle up neighbour. Michelle Obama is getting ready to run for POTUS, and her husband can serve as VPOTUS.
This is great!
You guys are starting to sound like me when I go to the bars, get buzzed, and start ranting about one-world government!
(Semi-)Kidding aside this was another really good conversation.
Naomi Wolf’s evolution has been one of the few bright spots through the health mess of the past two-plus years. She and Steve Bannon are one of the oddest imaginable on-air duos, yet there they are, with pretty good rapport to boot. Unfortunately, she does still seem to possess a reflexive allergy to J6.
As for technical details, Mr. Collum’s voice sounds just fine to me over Bluetooth wireless using good quality over-ear headphones.
two other recent instances that are blatantly not as the storyline, and disappeared from public within hours,,,,, the nashville bombing & the travis scott concert “killings”
Great point! The Nashville Christmas 2020 …bombing? To this day we still don’t know what happened or why. The fable spun by the Deep State that it was some lone crank w a death wish to blow up a data center is absurd and contra the evidence.
My personal theory is that it was a warning shot aimed at Trump to make sure he didn’t try to use his CIC powers to investigate the stolen election. Recall that he was meeting with advisors and considering the Insurrection Act on 12.24. Then Nashville happens and he’s a different guy after that— let’s have a rally in DC etc..
Collum has a voice like razor blades
Dave is somewhat interesting only because he’s a chemistry teacher at an Ivy who holds the opinions he holds.
And he only holds these opinions because it took him a lifetime of market dabbling to come to the conclusion that there is no rationality to be found there.
Like every other boomer he is still enslaved to the TV and it’s cast of celebrities (Tucker, Mahr) and newspapers, but like a millennial he is overly proud of his Twitter following.
These late-in-life red-pilled people are a bit tiresome and a bit naive and he in particular is a bit grating with his academic airs and chest puffing (he collabed with Merck… woopity-doo!) Ultimately he’s a specialty worker who kvetches with dentists and lawyers (other workers) ironically calling themselves “rednecks”. Ironic because he is one but thinks his CV grants him some form of superiority.
He’ll probably come to this conclusion later than most too.
Relax, it’s a casual conversation. You’re flinching over irrelevancies, minimizing the profundity of points covered.
