Don’t hold your breath waiting for a coherent pre-election debate about the mother-of-all-issues facing this republic, namely, that we can’t afford the living arrangements Americans think of as “normal” anymore. This quandary has stalked us since the millennium turned. It thunders through all the activities of daily life, and the tensions emanating from it are so agonizing and difficult to face that our politics have deflected off into the kind of hysteria spawned by bad dreams.
As the great Wendell Berry pointed out years ago, this is about the nation’s home economics: energy and resources in, production out, surplus wealth saved. America had a brush with reality in 2008 when all the distortions of our home economics came together and whapped the country between the eyes with a two-by-four. Our energy-in was faltering. US oil production had fallen to a new low of under 4 million barrels a day and we were importing around 15 million. We papered over the problem with borrowed money in ever-larger amounts. This dynamic prompted ever riskier work-arounds on Wall Street, especially “innovations” in securitized debt, which invited criminal shenanigans. It blew up badly. Wealth vaporized. Industries collapsed. Homes and jobs were lost. Lives ruined.
The fairy-tale narrative since then is that technology rode to the rescue. The shale oil miracle “solved” the energy-in problem. Sure seems like it. But lots of things aren’t what they seem to be. Shale oil was a neat stunt. Turns out you can produce a helluva lot of it by paying more to pull it out the ground than you get from selling it. You can goose the process nicely by paying for it with borrowed money. And so it has gone. America now produces a new record of over 12 million barrels a day, and most of the companies doing it can’t make a red cent. And since it is increasingly obvious that they won’t ever pay back the money they borrowed before, they are unlikely to get new loans to continue their profitless operations.
Notice how rapidly shale oil production shot up after 2008. It’s worth a peek at analyst Steve St. Angelo’s latest essay on shale oil company debt (Finance Costs Are Killing the Shale Industry) to understand just how this stunt worked. As blogger Tim Morgan at Surplus Energy Economics points out, the dis-economics of energy production — and shale oil in particular — are stealthily damaging everyday life: “…the world economy is already suffering from these effects, and these have prompted the adoption of successively riskier forms of financial manipulation in a failed effort to sustain economic ‘normality.’”
That tells you exactly why the stock markets are at record highs now, along with US oil production. What the nation doesn’t get is that the shale oil industry is sure to collapse, and at least as rapidly as it shot up. So, expect the stock markets to collapse with it, along with tremendous collateral damage to all the other instruments that represent “money” — bonds, currencies, and their derivatives. It will make the 2008 episode look like a mere overturned poker table when it happens. In the meantime, many of the activities enabled by the oil industry are wrecking the planet, not just CO2 emissions, but the plastics and chemical industries especially. So, the oil quandary bites at both ends: damned if it quits on us and damned if it keeps going.
That’s the main issue of our time. We’re faced with the imminent and rather drastic re-organization of everyday life in America without oil. It should be reasonable to assume that the process will be disorderly, and the longer we ignore it, the more disorderly it will be. Granted, it is a tall order for politicians to talk about things this scary. The hard truth is that intelligent responses to this quandary would require heroic effort and painful change — and would probably be emotionally unacceptable to voters. It would entail the dismantling of suburbia and all of the activities associated with it, a severe shrinking of government at every level, the abandonment of most of our military playthings and overseas commitments, a wholesale overturning of Agri-Biz as currently practiced (along with a transition to smaller scale farming with a much higher percentage of the population working at it), and a stupefying aggregate loss of perceived wealth.
I’m describing events that go far beyond the common understanding of political revolution — though these discontinuities will surely produce political and social strife of a high order. This mega-issue and its spinoffs are what looms behind all the pitiful political comedy of the moment, especially the incendiary buffooneries of race and “gender.” Ponder this as you read the latest New York Times sponsored melodramas about “white supremacy” and the unfair pay in women’s soccer tournaments.

JHK, the horizon is not looking so good. All of us who can actually think know that intrinsically. Thanks for the repeated wake up calls, despite the fact the calls will go largely unheeded.
No, the economic weather that’s coming over the horizon does not look good. While I agree with our host that the inevitable decline in tight oil production will usher in a repeat of 2007-2014, I suspect the attention of politicians and the media will be focused on a possible calamity that could happen much sooner, the U.S. bumping its head on the debt ceiling, which could happen in less than two months. Nothing like a deadline or an execution to focus one’s mind!
As for our host noting “many of the activities enabled by the oil industry are wrecking the planet, not just CO2 emissions, but the plastics and chemical industries especially,” we saw some of that earlier this month, as a record heat wave in Europe began summer 2019. I expect a hot summer and the second or third warmest year on record. Stay cool, everyone!
The debt ceiling problem is just another facet of the energy quandary.
A hamburger today and I shall pay for it on Tuesday!

The debt is just plain ignored, period. The only time it will come into play is when enough creditors of the debt need their money. Who will that be and when will they need it? Those are the critical questions.
I think about pensions, 401ks, aging and sicker boomers and beyond. What form will the debt collapse, if it happens, take?
One of the methods utilized to keep defaulted on debt from creating too big a problem is to reassign the defaulted on debt from those who will not or cannot pay onto the backs of those that still can. It is a slight of hand that most cannot see but it is accomplished in the bright light of day through government bail outs and buy-outs. If the non-productive cannot pay, the productive can be made to pay for them. How long it continues to work is strictly a function of the incomes of the working being able to absorb the additional expense.
Yes, money is basically just a representation of energy.
Trump’s white nationalism would be worth a rant but the subject is oil. This is from Forbes.
‘The Shale Revolution has a big problem. It is heavily dependent on institutional investors and lenders, and they are starting to lose interest in the business. Investment in shale has benefited from a Silicon Valley-like syndrome of focusing more on growth than profitability. But in the past similar strategies of growth-at-all-costs have led to busts. In a boom/bust industry like oil, businesses fall hard. When investors give up waiting for profits, they flee in unison, and when that happens, the Shale Revolution will end.

America does a Thelma and Louise off a cliff while the White House primate tweets out corrupt inept and racist diversions. Attempts to blame his catastrophic ineptitude on others shall have a short shelf life. Events are moving too fast for little hands to keep up and Trumps short clothes could soon be the color of the Americans he hates.
We already know Trump hates anybody from the global south. So much he pretends climate change is not happening. But change is happening as I made clear in a little story yesterday.
Trump is committed, to lies and any narrative which keeps him in his suit, red tie, and keeps him lording over you. Have we ever had a president more dedicated to lies?
And coming soon to an America near you. Fracking bailouts.
So you are calling the man you think is racist a primate? Isn’t this hypocritical? I just don’t think you have any real clue what racism really is. I guess this is what happens to Whites who live in all White, wealthy, and super liberal neighborhoods….
So you are calling the man you think is racist a primate? Isn’t this hypocritical?
No it is not. I’m not calling Trump a primate because of his race color or ethnic origin. I call the Golden Gibbon a primate because he is an asshole. That is not being racist.
Ummm I don’t mean to be persnickety but you use the word “Golden”. Technically that is a reference to color. The color of his hair right? So that is a reference to melanin one way or another. So technically if we were being super snowflakey we would say, yeah you a racist. But! I for one actually don’t care other than to say I gotchya on a technicality lol!
No I get off on a technicality. I’m splitting hairs. Mine, they’re all GOLDEN and I’m covered with them.
And I came back to let you in on a little secret. Blind people can be racist too.
Well yes there is always that. And do you take that as evidence that perhaps race is inherently important in the context of human interactions? Or are you more of the mind that the blind are simply products of their environment like everyone else and are similarly operating off of the prejudices they were raised with/learned?
K-Dog: “Have we ever had a president more dedicated to lies?”
No.
As I write, the count is at 5,276. Today is his 906th day in office. Math tells me he averages 5.8 verifiably false statements per day. (Not sure how many of them are before breakfast.)
A lie to a liberal is a truth to a conservative and vice versa.
We shall see who the ultimate truth teller is in 2020.
@John in AZ: I am getting this increasing sensation, for lack of a better word, that come the 2020’s, we’ll find out we’ve all been blowing smoke up our own butts.
Was I talking to myself when I said verifiably false? Apparently so. The difference isn’t between liberals and conservatives; it’s between those who pay attention to ascertainable facts, and those who think the truth can be established through a popularity contest.
And while you’re at it, JohnAZ, don’t mistake me for a liberal. I’m a man of the left.
@Elron
So a Communist.
It figures.
@Elrond. Have you actually bothered to read this list? The sad attempts to spin everything Trump says into alleged lies?
Let’s take an easy one. Trump claims Dem leaders are for open borders. A lie! Except it’s not a lie. Oh sure Dems don’t call decriminalizing border crossings and encouraging such crossings with promises of free healthcare “open borders.” But even Obama’s former homeland security secretary says 2020 Democrats’ immigration proposals are tantamount to open borders.
So that’s one down. Actually more than one, since they count each instance of the same fact as a separate “lie”. And if this so-called lie is TDS nonsense, then the entire list is suspect.
ExScotticus
I had a quick look at the list and it is just as bad as the Washington Post’s and the NYT’s lists (mainly puerile nit-picking).
Here is one from near the top of the list:
start quote
“Right now, when you catch somebody, you have to release them.”
Source: Exchange with reporters before Marine One departure
in fact: This claim is overly broad. It is not true that all unauthorized immigrants caught entering the U.S. have to be released; they are subject to rapid deportation, known as expedited removal, without seeing a judge. If migrants declare that they are seeking asylum, they do have a right to a legal process, and many of them are released
end quote
Where exactly is the lie? Was Trump supposed to have said, “Right now, when you catch somebody, you have to release them in almost all cases, except where immigrants unaccountably forget to claim asylum and are subject to rapid deportation, known as expedited removal.”?
The media lie about everything important: immigration, so-called global warming, so-called black victimization, Russian interference in the election, and so on.
The belief that the fact-checking agencies are (a) unbiased and (b) competent is hilarious.
Here is another ‘lie’
start quote
“China would love to make a deal with us. We had a deal, and they broke the deal. I think, if they had to do again, they wouldn’t have done what they did. We’re taking in billions of dollars in tariffs. China is subsidizing products. So the United States taxpayer is paying for very little of it.”
Source: Exchange with reporters before Marine One departure
in fact: U.S. importers, not China, pay Trump’s tariffs on products being imported by China. As the Washington Post explained, the report Trump has cited as evidence for his claim that China is paying does not actually prove what he says it does: “Trump is quoting from a study by European economists that predicted that a 25-percentage-point increase in tariffs raises U.S. consumer prices on all affected Chinese products by only 4.5 percent on average, while the producer price of Chinese firms declines by 20.5 percent. The study was released in November, using previously released studies from the 1990s, not actual data on prices. But a paper published March 2, by three prominent U.S. economists, found exactly the opposite had happened when actual trade data was studied. ‘Overall, using standard economic methods, we find that the full incidence of the tariff falls on domestic consumers, with a reduction in U.S. real income of $1.4 billion per month by the end of 2018,’ the economists reported. ‘We find that the U.S. tariffs were almost completely passed through into U.S. domestic prices, so that the entire incidence of the tariffs fell on domestic consumers and importers up to now, with no impact so far on the prices received by foreign exporters. We also find that U.S. producers responded to reduced import competition by raising their prices.’ Another paper, published March 3, found similar results, with the impact heaviest in Republican counties. ‘We estimate that the U.S. economy has lost $68.8 billion due to higher import prices,’ the economists concluded.”
end quote
Who are the “three prominent US economists” who wrote the paper? And who wrote the other paper? This is all arguable surely. Trump may be overstating things in the last line but that is not the same as deliberate deceit.
And here is the very next one on the list:
start quote
“You know who got me elected? You know who got me elected? I got me elected. Russia didn’t help me at all. Russia, if anything, I think, helped the other side. What you ought to ask is this: do you think the media helped Hillary Clinton get elected? She didn’t make it, but you take a look at collusion between Hillary Clinton and the media. You take a look at collusion between Hillary Clinton and Russia. She had more to do, in the campaign, with Russia than I did. I had nothing to do.”
Source: Exchange with reporters before Marine One departure
in fact: There is no basis for the claim that Russia helped Clinton or that Clinton colluded with Russia.
end quote
JHK should read this. It explains everything.
And here is the next one (it is so bizarre it is getting addictive):
start quote
Question: “What did you make of Mueller’s statement yesterday?” Trump: “Well, I think it was the same as the report. There wasn’t much change. It was, to me, the same as the report. And there’s no obstruction. You see what we’re saying. There’s no obstruction, there’s no collusion, there’s no nothing.”
Source: Exchange with reporters before Marine One departure
in fact: Special counsel Robert Mueller did not make a finding of “no obstruction,” as he emphasized in the statement Trump was being asked about here. In fact, Mueller’s final report laid out an extensive case that Trump may have committed obstruction on several occasions, though it did not explicitly accuse him of doing so. (The report explained, as Mueller did in the statement, that Mueller was abiding by a longstanding Department of Justice policy that holds that a sitting president cannot be indicted; the report said it would be unfair even to accuse the president of a crime without charging him.) “If we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state. We are unable to reach such a judgment,” the report said. (The attorney general, William Barr, reviewed the report and decided that there was insufficient evidence for an obstruction charge.)
end quote
I assume Mueller said much the same thing in his statement as in his report. Trump says that as far as he himself is concerned there was no obstruction and Barr agrees that there is no evidence. So how is this a lie?
They can “fact check” me now. ‘… said “there is no evidence” when in fact what the attorney general actually said was “there is insufficient evidence”…’
And yet people believe the media when they release blatant nonsense about ‘paedophile rings in the highest circles’ or ritual satanic abuse fantasies.
They cannot get anything right. I mentioned a few months ago Bruce Charlton’s book Addicted To Distraction where he summarizes it as follows:
The mass media portray good as bad and vice versa and only show bad as bad and good as good for bad reasons.
“How do you impeach a Republican President for a crime that was committed by the Democrats? WITCH-HUNT!”
Source: Twitter
in fact: There is no evidence that “the Democrats” committed some major crime related to the investigation into the Trump campaign’s relationship with Russia.
“They really thought they had some people on their side, because, as you know, the people doing the investigation were 18 extremely angry Democrats, many of whom worked for Hillary Clinton and supported Hillary Clinton.”
Source: Joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe
in fact: Special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation was, of course, led by a Republican: Mueller himself. We allow Trump to characterize the lawyers working for Mueller as “angry Democrats,” but it is not true that “many” of them “worked for Hillary Clinton.” While PolitiFact found that six lawyers on Mueller’s team had made donations to Clinton, either in 2016 or in the past, only one, Jeannie Rhee, could plausibly be said to have “worked for Hillary Clinton” even indirectly: Rhee represented the Clinton Foundation, as an outside counsel, in its defence against a 2015 lawsuit
I read 4 entries, in 3 of 4, the mental gymnastics used to arrive at the result were laughable.
In the fourth example, it was entirely made up.
Good luck with that.
“Manufacturing and small business optimism have set all-time records, and consumer confidence has just surged to a 21-year high.”
Source: Remarks to Japanese business leaders
in fact: The University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment Index had just registered a preliminary 15-year high in May, its highest reading since 2004 but not a 21-year high. (Also, the final data for the month, released after Trump spoke, was lower, just an eight-month high.)
This really is pathetic. And I thought the Irish media were bad.
Sean,
FOIA docs obtained by Judicial Watch show that the Mueller team was led by Andrew Weissman; Mueller was the figurehead. And most were “angry Democrats.”
Trumped again.
https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-05-14/foia-docs-mueller-top-prosecutor-andrew-weissmann-hand-picked-team-angry-democrats
Folks the most ridiculous example is when they challenge Trump’s rally attendance claims. For example, Trump will claim 25k people attended, when “in fact” it was only 24,999 plus a midget.
But seriously, whether it’s 25k or 23k, all large published crowd sizes are ESTIMATES. The fact is, Trump can land in any major LIBERAL city and PACK a stadium with less than 24 hours notice. No other Dem leader comes even close. To claim that Trump lies when his estimate is within 10% of his detractors is just TDS madness.
Exscotticus
Rally attendances. I bought a book last year by a female Swedish philosopher, Asa Wikforss called Alternativa Fakta. She said the final straw was Kelly-Anne Conway’s “we have alternative facts” remark to back up Trump’s claim that he got a bigger inauguration crowd than Obama. (Most people surely couldn’t care less.) So our exasperated Swedish philosopher sets out to clear up the whole sordid mess about what is and what is not knowledge. And I buy her book out of curiosity to see how she means to do this.
And my question is simple: what evidence will she produce?
She describes what knowledge means (as opposed to, say, opinion or belief) and gives some examples, mostly about how she knows what is inside her fridge (from memory). She says that we rely on experts because we cannot know everything important in a complex world, so we have to accept what the experts say. And she is herself an expert in the field of reason, she had to work hard and had some luck in a very competitive field.
She is married to a prominent journalist in one of the country’s leading newspapers. I suppose that would be either Dagens Nyheter or the Sydsvenska Dagbladet. (I cannot remember which of these papers, back at the time of the Falklands War, when I was visiting a friend of mine who was studying in Lund, which referred to the islands as the Falklands and the Malvinas in alternate sentences within the same article – this is memory and based on him reading it out so I don’t know what the fakt checkers would make of it.) Even in a crowded field Swedish journalism is in a league of its own.
She shares the liberal view of the world and is open about her bias (but she obviously does not realize how deranged it is). Now, I have to admit she does understand common sense, in a worthy if dull kind of way. I won’t say logic because I find the whole subject tiresome. Needless to say, she is an introvert.
But back to my question. What evidence, what FACTS, will she produce? Remember, Trump and his ilk are sitting on top of the largest dunghill of mistruths, untruths, non-truths, anti-truths, pseudo-truths and outright lies in the history of the world. (I must be thinking of Besteiro with that metaphor, one of the three leaders of the Spanish Socialist Party in the 1930s. He fell out with the other two, Prieto and Largo Caballero (the latter, I think, called “our Spanish Lenin), who planned, and succeded in, plunging Spain into Civil War in 1934. Besteiro spoke of his party’s “Himalaya of lies”.)
The answer of course is: very, very few indeed (I counted them and have a note made of them). And most of those are highly debateable or trivial or irrelevant. You can have the most highly developed powers of reason but if your data is wrong then it is useless and worse than useless.
And this summarizes what I have been driving at during the past two or three years here. If you look at the evidence for the claims (any of them) it is never there.
“The aide said that guys like me were ‘in what we call the reality-based community,’ which he defined as people who ‘believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.’ […] ‘That’s not the way the world really works anymore,’ he continued. ‘We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors…and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do’.” — Ron Suskind, quoting an official in the George W. Bush administration (believed to be Karl Rove), 2004.
Unfortunately for anyone who professes a fidelity to facts, and a willingness to bend to the dictates of reality, matters have not improved in the past 15 years. They’ve gotten much worse, to the point where the current occupant of the Oval Office is able to emit a ceaseless torrent of lies, half-lies, figments, wishful thinking, deflection, egotism, insults, invective, and all-purpose bullshit, while enjoying the reliable approval of 35 to 40 percent of the electorate.
Donald Trump is a pathological charlatan. He is a man who exploits people’s unruly passions to serve himself. Above all, he exploits people’s hunger to have their prejudices flattered, and to be relieved of responsibility for dealing with what’s actually the case in the cold light of day. The only responsible way to deal with such an individual is to resist him. Donald Trump, and the atavistic tendency he represents, must be resisted at all times, and at every level, by anyone who claims to be intellectually honest and/or wants to live in a world where such honesty is possible. If that means fact-checking every statement he makes by the skin of its teeth, then have at it — it’s honourable work.
@Sean, one tactic I’ve seen used time and again on Snopes is to mischaracterize a truth so as to deny it (i.e., Straw Man). Here’s an example…
Did Hillary Clinton Steal $200,000 in White House Furnishings?
According to Snopes, the answer is MOSTLY FALSE—because, among other reasons, “the aggregate value of the objects in question was much less than $200,000”.
But obviously the salient point here is not how much they stole, but the fact that they stole anything at all! If the claim had been—Did Hillary Clinton Steal White House Furnishings?—then Snopes would have been forced to upgrade their truthiness rating.
When you read this bit of history, it makes the Dem’s emoluments claims against Trump even more partisan and ridiculous than they already are—claims that have been thrown out by the court.
>>> If that means fact-checking every statement he makes by the skin of its teeth, then have at it
In other words, it doesn’t matter if the fact-checking is rubbish because the ends justify the means. That’s pretty much the Lefty position on most things. If truth is expedient then use it; if not then spin it or deny it altogether.
One side at least remembers what the truth is, Exscotticus. The other derives its strength from setting the truth alight and dancing around the flames.
>>> from setting the truth alight and dancing around the flames.
More hyperbole? For a guy who professes to be an expert on “truth”, you sure are lacking in facts to support your endless TDS claims.
If any group’s burning things down, it’s the Left.
After all that, it would not surprise me all that much if Donald Trump turns out to be the most truthful president in American history.
Wow. That was fast! 10 posts in and it’s back to Trump/racist/liar/dickhead and our imminent demise is no longer the greater concern here.
CCN was originally focused on the unrecognized realities of the human trajectory. It lost its way quite some time ago, though JHK was complicit in that red herring. Now he’s back to core stuff that actually matters but the thread has already reverted to the current norm.
What does this tell us about ourselves as a loose group of archers? Geez – Elrond’s already had the ‘commie’ label applied.
CNN meant to be CFN, of course, before I get my ears boxed.
Majella, I’ve been called nastier names and survived. Alas, not everyone can have, e.g., Yves Smith’s comments section. But then, Yves Smith cares about what goes on under her banner, so she puts effort into engaging with constructive comments while suitably pruning what deserves pruning. Kunstler kinda DGAF except on one or two especially sensitive topics, and so the chimps have been running the zoo for as far back as anyone can remember.
He just said that because a. It’s true and b. Because his million man deportation didn’t begin so he had to distract the Red Necked Morlocks.
If you had any kind of global understanding, you’d know that all kinds of people don’t belong in the same nation. Pelosi jumped right back on and called him a “racist” – but she is now called a racist by the same women, so it’s just hypocrisy. And the Left are hypocrites, right? I mean do you want to live in Somalia? Because that’s what Somalis will create. What else could they create? Ditto Sub-Saharans (the Somalis don’t consider themselves Black and consider Blacks to be slaves. That being said, they are terrified of “our” Blacks because of their ferocity and great strength), ditto the Mexicans, etc.
OMG yeah wtf! Where are the darn deportations! I need to see like a ton of people being arrested and put on buses headed for Laredo and Calexico. Why am I not seeing it!?
You will be able to keep your doctor if you want to. I never had sex with that woman. Your president is not a crook. Read my lips, I’ll never raise your taxes. Weapons of mass destruction. They all lie.
You don’t even know what White Nationalism is and thus no treats for you!
That’s telling him. Bad Dog! Smack on the nose too with a rolled up copy of the Nation of Islam’s newspaper.
LOL gosh I have missed you :-). Yes, since Louis Farrakhan is now a White Nationalist (lol) I should be able to easily use his newspaper as a tool of oppression against the poor and hapless Wokies or the alleged defenders of such.
I don’t have to know ALL the details of your White whatever, your blood flag and about all your shiny stuff. I don’t have to know because if I want to know how you ‘two’ think about something all I have to do is ask myself:
>Who would Jesus kill?
What lol? Blood flag and shiny stuff? What does that mean?
What a bizarre question – Who would Jesus kill? I am genuinely interested to know who you think will be on that list. Jesus brings Life to the world not Death. Though upon His second return He will be a Lion rather than a Lamb and his enemies will be consumed.
It’s not our fault you don’t have the Shining, Herbert. The Hill People of the Appalachians, the Ozarks, and of Rijack 7 are never wrong about such things. Iffen you had it, they would have told you.
The shale revolution will not end until something shows up that is more economically effective. Get it, we need oil and will do anything to get it, anything. When the financial picture gets darker, the government will nationalize the frackers to keep on drilling. We will definitely be paying a heftier price for the oil. Probably as a tax if need be.
I think one victim of what is coming is individual freedom and responsibility. I do not believe that the political decisions that are coming are possible with the gimme attitude of the American public today. Socialism will evolve as the necessary individuality to maintain capitalism will shrivel away.
Return to feudalism??
Indulge us with a rant on Trump’s “white nationalism.”
Backed with concrete facts.
Thanks.
AOC screamed at the fence thru crimson lips, her prognathous jaw jutting their the chain links, “Let my People go.” White Nationalists say the same. All Peoples want their own Lands where they can be free under their own laws, based on their unique values, mores, and folkways.
What could be more oppressive than cramming radically different peoples together? Yet, the Kdogim think that such a thing is glorious and NOT to do it is absolute horror. What utter delusion, eh?
Although I don’t have a racist bone in my body, there is some truth to what you say. In nature, most of us tend to stick to our own groups while living within a larger diverse ecosystem.
I have yet to visit or live in any country where things are different. People will take you in, offer you something to eat, even be your friend, but you will never fit into a community in which you are not accepted on an ethnic level. And race/skin color is only one component.
Everyone has a racist bone in their body. You do too though you have clearly done an awesome job of suppressing that part of your nature. Proof that you are a racist like everyone else? Well, your instincts are spot on. You can never truly be accepted into a community if you are not a genuine member of that community. Not only do you intuit that but you have also accepted that as fact. So there you are. Nothing but a bit of healthy and normal racism. No big deal! You don’t have to hate others or anything.
SSL,
By racist I meant that I don’t view other groups as inherently “inferior,” nor would I have ruled out marrying someone of another race.
Technically, the word is almost meaningless anyways, as the real issue at stake whenever it is brought up in politics tends to be power.
“Jes Grew” (Ishmael Reed – Mumbo Jumbo – 1972)
Sorry, but I disagree. Shale oil extraction will implode ONLY when the last drop will have benn squeezed from the earth, or when/if the USA implode for other issues. The sector is, IMO, a PUBLIC one camouflaged as a private industry. If the so called “private” investors will stop lending more money, the Government will move in it with direct (and probably military) control.
What looms behind, or, the past ain’t what it used to be.
Bernie Sanders to join insulin caravan to Windsor, Ont.
‘We can’t wait for drug companies to lower prices’
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/windsor/bernie-sanders-insulin-windsor-detroit-1.5209795
“Bernie Sanders will join the next caravan to Canada for Americans to purchase insulin.
“Sanders announced Thursday he plans to come to Windsor, Ont. through Detroit, Mich. to ‘spotlight greed’ existing in the American healthcare industry.
“He joins people with Type 1 diabetes who have been coming to Canada to purchase insulin — the drug costs about $30 in Canada, compared to about $300 in the United States. …
“Sanders is no stranger to coming with Americans to Canada to purchase medication. In 1999, Sanders joined women with breast cancer in crossing the border.”
—
My hometown! Who knows, maybe I’ll go down to say hello. Everyone’s welcome.
Hmmm what in interesting story Elrond! No doubt you love a great show huh. You know its really funny. With Bernie being a millionaire and all, he could probably help quite a few people get their insulin, even at American prices. Which by the way, are ridiculous and unacceptable. I wonder why he isn’t spending more time at his job (which he is paid very well for by the taxpayers you know) trying to fix the prescription pricing issues rather than wasting time on a photo op trip to Canada? And why do Canadians always come across the border to see American doctors?
What does this diatribe have to do with todays subject besides nothing? Distract, deny, demean.
Yep, now you have Elrond’s number!
A sarcastic tone of voice is no substitute for dealing with facts, SoftStarLight. As you know, or ought to know, Senator Sanders has a long-established record of advocating and legislating on this and many other issues that affect the lives of ordinary Americans. As an independent senator, he has worked with other legislators to pass measures into law when it was possible for him to do so, and carried on speaking up as a lone voice when circumstances were less favourable. His track record in general is five decades long, and he is the very soul of credibility. Again, you know that already. I leave it to others to suss out your motives for behaving as if you don’t.
A ‘photo-op’ trip this may be, but it’s far from a waste of time. Not if it continues to place pressure on politicians to do the right thing, and take the boot of pharmaceutical companies off the necks of ordinary Americans. Meanwhile, the idea that Canadians are flocking across the border to seek medical care in the USA is a zombie myth that refuses to die. The Fraser Institute, a right-wing Canadian think tank, estimates that 52,513 Canadians travelled outside the country (not only the USA) for medical care in 2014. That’s 0.15% of the population. Compare that to 30.3 million Americans — 9.4% of the population! — who have diabetes and would benefit from what Sen. Sanders and the insulin activists are trying to do. And remember, that’s just diabetes. Think of all the other ways the health-care industry screws regular folk.
Bernie Sanders is on the right side of this issue, and on the right side of history generally. You should be thinking about how much better things could be than they are now for you and for people you care about, just by fixing what needs fixing. Not making fun of the one guy who’s doing more than anyone to fix them.
He is the very soul of credibility? Elrond, are you being real with me or are you trying to get a reaction out of me lol? I completely agree that prescription drug costs are way too high and not transparent. I agree that the medical/health “industry” is a giant scam unfortunately created to bankrupt ordinary people. This has been going on for a long time. At a certain point, how long do you fight something without making progress before you try something different? Five decades is a long time! I wonder if some people are around so long politically because they are always “fighting” a system that doesn’t seem to ever change or go away. So is he just part of it at the end of the day? I’ll I am really saying is that it seems like it would be a better use of his time to work with his Congressional colleagues here to try and pass laws to regulate the industry rather than making a run to Canada for the cameras. Pressure is great! But if it doesn’t change anything its just all for the cameras.
To me, that sounds like you think Bernie should capitulate and start doing things they way they’re done — i.e., become part of the swamp.
You don’t change things by going along with what everyone else is doing, do you? No, you change things by applying pressure where it’ll make a difference. Real change doesn’t come from following the rules as written, it comes from rewriting the rulebook.
The leviathan that Bernie is taking on isn’t likely to be moved by one person, so he makes public appeals to get attention. And it’s working — I think the movement for Medicare For All is finally getting leverage in the USA. And not a moment too soon.
Just because somebody made money, it doesn’t automatically make them a bad person. If they did illegal things to get that money, or to keep that money, or to make more money, that’s what makes them a bad person. I’ve met rich people who’ve made their money ethically, and through hard work, and as far as I’m concerned, they deserve what they’ve earned. They are in the minority, however. The 1% didn’t get where they are by playing fair.
“The leviathan Bernie is taking on …”
Right. He fed us to the leviathan when he backed Clinton. He will go down in history as one of the biggest sell-outs in US politics.
I occasionally go back and watch his old speeches just to take in the sheer size of that traitorous act. How he turned against everything he claimed to stand for.
Not to mention he knew the party rigged the entire process.
He bent the knee. It doesn’t get any weaker.
Yes, he’s deeply flawed. Just look at him standing there like a disgraced little boy after those two Black women took away his mic – a symbol of his manhood. He should have fought them off like Trump said he would have.
And the look on his face when he voted for Hillary – a man in hell. Or when he caved during the debate with his, I don’t want to know about your damned emails. Well we do, Bernice.
I don’t necessarily trust anyone who is rich. I mean I believe that people can and have actually become rich working hard and honestly. But, even they seem to learn all the loopholes of keeping their money and paying as little in taxes as possible. I mean I don’t even blame them either. It’s only human after all to look out for you and yours. So I guess that is why its hard to be trusting. Sometimes I wish rich people would come right out and say basically “I am on top, you are on the bottom, what I say goes, you’ll be happy to get what I give ya or you can hit the road, and you will do x, y, and z to get a, b, and c or ya don’t get nothing at all.” At least then we have a clear relationship, hierarchy, economic system, etc. all set up with a few words in the open. It’s the way the world works, except that people aren’t necessarily aware that someone else directly controls their life or they believe all the gobbledygook they learn in school and think they can be “activists for change” or something like that.
What’s the matter? Can’t come up with your own insults so you’re spouting right-wing propaganda? Sanders wasn’t a millionaire until he had a bestseller. Instead of picking on him, what about Darrell Issa or Mitt Romney, who are multi-millionaires? Either of them could pay for somebody’s insulin–but they don’t. And Canadians would never give up their health care system in exchange for America’s overpriced one.
SSL
That’s rich!!! Trump’s whole presidency to date has been about photo ops & big ‘shows’. How hypocritical to criticize him for giving a shit and wanting to stir the public debate to another level. And, to cap it off you actually AGREE with him!
To do the math, if this now ‘Uber-wealthy’ socialist spent a million a year paying for insulin for people, he could by 3,333 doses. A YUGE dent in the problem for sure.
Your naivety staggers me. The point is the extortive extraction of poor people’s dollars unscrupulous assholes who take home many millions, quite few, actual billions.
Stop being a one-eyed,self-unaware mouthpiece for those who are screwing YOU and your family. Pathetic.
I find these stories kinda funny. Yes, Americans do go to Canada for certain products.
But guess what people! Canadians shop in the US for many, many products, too! LOL
I can barely drive around my town here in Duluth, MN without hitting some Canadian who is looking around for the mall to shop for about everything.. electronics, clothing, food, booze.. taxes on many things in Canada are outrageous.
So, it goes both ways. The media makes it look like the shopping is in only one direction. That’s completely untrue.
The exchange rate isn’t exactly favourable to Canadians shopping in the USA. It actually exceeded the US dollar briefly back in 2011, maybe because the oil sands were hopping, but we put a stop to that. Generally we like to keep it below the greenback to make our other, non-oil exports more attractive. But yes, we used to nip over to Detroit for things all the time.
” But yes, we used to nip over to Detroit for things all the time.”
Elrond,
…things. Like our women. I thank you for finally offering, at long last, a confession that your countrymen come down marauding into our urban centers, drink all our liquor, defile our women, intimidate our white citizens shoot a few blacks and then retreat back to your wasteland to gather and tell wild and salacious lies to each other at hockey games.
I implore you Elrond…have you no decency? You have done enough… At long last, sir, have you no sense of decency?
You kid, elysianfield, but that actually reminds me of a tragic incident that happened when I was a kid.
One night in 1982, Mary Cecile Brissette, who had been a teacher at my grade school (she ran the resource center, aka the library), went over to Detroit with her husband for dinner at a popular Mexican restaurant. While there, she was shot dead. Her husband proclaimed it happened during a random street holdup. The police investigated, and it didn’t take them long to conclude that her husband murdered her himself. He was counting on people’s prejudices about Detroit to make his tale seem plausible, you see, but the cops actually looked into it and it didn’t hold up. Gerald M. Brissette is still serving a life sentence for first-degree murder in Michigan.
Here’s the punch line: Husband and wife had a shared life-insurance policy, which the husband tried to claim should be paid to his wife’s estate even though he murdered her. The murder took place on U.S. soil, but the insurance policy had to be adjudicated back home. To make a long story short, it went all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada, which finally held that the insurance company didn’t need to pay out.
Isn’t true crime fun?
Diabetics need insulin to live. Canadians could survive without electronics.
Do you see the difference there?
And they don’t need oil either, right? They can generate tumo heat in their Yetiesque bodies thru meditation.
Hi all–
As a pharmacist who is currently licensed in Canada and the US, and who has worked in both places, I can tell you that it isn’t just insulin pricing that is way out of whack– Here are a few more examples (Can prices converted to US Dollars);
Drug Name: Pkg: US Price: Can Price:
Migranal 8 $3607.00 $91.00
Eliquis 2.5 mg 60 $427.00 $81.00
Farxiga 10mg 30 $474.00 $67.00
Avonex 4 $6743.00 $1464.00
I could go on and on…. All these drugs are made by exactly the same companies for US and Canadian distribution, and probably in the same factory.
To me the real question is, “Why are the outrageous profits being made on US sales not being reflected in their stock prices?”
The only answer I can come up with is skimming, bribery of politicians, and racketeering that should get Bernie Madoff released for time served due to comparative innocence….
I’m just leaving Vietnam ( in Da Nang airport as I write). This one of the hold-out single party communist states in the world. There’s no welfare, no social security in retirement but iris happy friendly place.
I appear to have been bitten by an insect and went into a nasty fever. Taken to the International Hospital, I spent 3 hours in the ER, in first world facilities and highly educated, mostly English speaking local staff (I mean they were a Viets, not expats).
A full range of blood tests, an intravenous antibiotic & a course of follow up treatment to take away. Cost? All up, including a delicious meal, 5,629,500 VND – or in USD $243.14.
What would that have cost in California? Who knows…there’s no schedules published. Probably cheaper for a cash-payer than my Insurance be would be charged, but how can such a relatively poor country (aka ‘shithole’) outshine the Mighty US of A? Distinct absence of greed.
@majella
Well you might be correct then again what recourse do you have if they made you worse or say confused you for another patient and ripped out your gall bladder by mistake?
You can’t sue them!
I guess you could call someone suing for malpractice as greed or having to carry heavy insurance as a result of malpractice law suits as being greedy trying to protect yourself and your employer from expensive law suits.
@majella
While we are at it you should stay in the Communist paradise I am sure the patina would wear off pretty quick and reality would set in.
>>> but how can such a relatively poor country (aka ‘shithole’) outshine the Mighty US of A? Distinct absence of greed.
Oh you don’t like Obamacare?
Remind us again how many drugs Vietnam has contributed to the world? How many medical instruments and procedures they’ve invented?
In your naïveté, how do you imagine these things happen? Perhaps your medical treatment in Vietnam should have been limited to only indigenous drugs and treatments. Oh—that’s right—you went to an “International Hospital”. Lucky you.
What you call “greedy” people are just common ordinary folks investing their capital. Corporations are then financed to pursue risky research that hopefully leads to drugs, like the antibiotics you took for your fever.
How typical of a lefty to criticize the very culture whose “greed” saved her life.
Bend Over & Ex Scottish Cuss
You guys! You’re both so consistently reliable in your unconsidered, pre-programmed ‘snowflakesque’ reactions. Your words literally drip with bile & jealousy and a sense of offended moral sensibility that simply is a figment of your twisted ‘conservative’ imaginations.
Let’s look at the points you try to make one by one, and I’ll point out how you haven’t even actually ingested the information in any cohrent form, let alone given any coherent response. I’ll start by pointing out that all I provided was information and posed an unanswerable question, on which I gave my own OPINION – why is healthcare like this so crazy cheap in Vietnam compared to USA? I said ‘absence of greed’. That was all.
Benr- first, let us just be clear first about how I described the country – I said it is one of hold-out states of single-party rule, so yes – it’s ‘communist’ and we’re very well aware of the contempt you hold for ‘ commies’. But check what it ISN’T: it’s not ‘Socialist’. Zero welfare, nicht Social Security, nada free healthcare, for anyone. Got that??? It’s COMMUNIST, but it’s NOT Socialist. So the reasoning behind your invitation to stay there is way off the mark.
Also, I doubt the patina would wear off. I haven’t been seduced by the cheap hospital visit. The country is tropically warm, abundant in foragable & cultivated food, populated by hard-working people (‘hustle or you starve’ sounds like a conservative utopia, in fact) yet you’ll find the people (and I’ll generalize here as I only meet a few dozen of the 132,000 inhabitants of Hoi An, and 4 inhabitants of the 1.23 million of Da Nang) are among the most relaxed and happy people on the planet. The average income per capita is just on
Average income of around $8,000 a year, yet they live with an inner dignity that ‘piss and moan’ artists like you two utterly lack.
Whether I can sue or not for medical misadventure cannot explain the difference in medical charges. The US system has a whole sub-industry of legal & indemnity insurance jiggery-pokery feeding off it that certainly adds aburdensome cost in and of itself but it also adds unecessary costs through medical professionals over-testing as a prophylactic against this legal risk. Who wouldn’t want that cost alleviated from the US system, or St least reduced to a realistic level of risk & expectation? At the margins, this is exploited by greed and all participants bear the cost.
Exscot – do you know the medical research system works? Are you aware of just how much Federal tax money is spent on pure research directly by institutions like NIH? Do you know that when a promising development is confirmed, that that research is them GIVEN to private ‘Big Pharma’ corporations to develop into marketable products, getting a tax break on every dollar spent in the process ( so further subsidisation)?
So what that Small Asian countries don’t have the resources of the west to develop their ‘own drugs’? You call me naive? Ha!. You saw, didn’t you, that I was responding to aibohphobia’s post illustrating the difference in prices between the US & next door in Canada. Are those margins caused by just ‘ordinary folk investing their capital’? No, the lower cost of drugs in Canada (and New Zealand and virtually everywhere else on the freaking planet) is that the drugs needed under a one-payer health system are negotiated – a customer with a $1billion in cash in its pocket and a tough negotiator will always get a better deal than an individual HMO who is simply a ‘cost plus’ retailer that doesn’t actually give a shit about final cost to the consumer.
You really don’t see it, do you? “How typical of a lefty to criticize the very culture whose “greed” saved her life”. Your reaction to anyone pointing out just how you as an American are being so royally screwed by the greedy, for-profit ‘healthcare system’ of the US is to defend it without question.
Ha. Sad, sad, sad. Still, if you can’t give a shit about your own situation, then I guess I shouldn’t bother trying to elucidate it for you.
Yeah, as I expected…no answer from the Twin Twerps of the ‘Right’
“Everyone’s welcome.” Wait until you get the flood of third world dysfunction at your southern border that we’re getting at ours, I wonder if you will so welcoming then.
We already get some of that, Jigplate. Most of the handguns used in crimes in Canada are sourced in the USA.
“Most of the handguns used in crimes in Canada are sourced in the USA.” I imagine that hard drugs are illegal in Canada, do they source them here too?
Depends on the drug, Jigplate.
https://globalnews.ca/news/3636788/these-9-maps-show-where-canadas-illegal-drugs-are-coming-from/
The USA is a, if not the, major source of the following illegal drugs in Canada: cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy), khat, anabolic steroids, amphetamine/methamphetamine.
Sounds like you have a border securing problem. Perhaps you should build a wall of your own.
“The USA is a, if not the, major source of the following illegal drugs in Canada: cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy), khat, anabolic steroids, amphetamine/methamphetamine”
Sorry Elrond I’m going to have to call bullshit on that one. If anything, the article you cited makes it clear that the USA is nothing more than a truck stop. The drugs are largely sourced from elsewhere. You have a problem with your border because we have s problem with ours , and neither of our virtue signalling governments are going to do a thing to stop it.
Insulin Caravan is something we the people of these United States can get behind.
I’ve never taken on any consumer debt in my life, never missed a rent check or utility bill; besides Student Loans and a WAY-OVER priced medical bill that is still being “processed” for a case of pre-orbital cellutitis three months ago (bacteria infection that got out of control from a cut over my eye that got infected from the good bacteria gardening!)
I love my nation, but it has been “colonized” for a very long time.
“It was the wrong place, at the wrong time”
You’re living on stolen land. Go back to Europe, Whitey.
It’s always been too late. All Land is stolen land (or Sword Land as the Norman Barons conquering Ireland put it). Those willing to fight for Life may live and maybe even proper. The rest go into the scrapheap of history, the slime pits on the edge of existence.
Just because you have forgotten these Truths doesn’t mean they have. Just listen to the Aztec War Priestess AOC or the Muslima Ilhan Omar – and Hear.
You jump the gun here. I was not referring to “white man bad”.
Referring rather to the power of elites over the people within our own government.
>>> Bernie Sanders is on the right side of this issue
You mean the side that supported Obamacare that didn’t fix a damn thing? Sanders has been around for decades. What has he done to fix this issue? Media stunts? Are you joking?
Obamacare, aka Romneycare, that was covered in insurance company barnacles before it was even set afloat? That was at best a flawed compromise after the GOP tried every possible way to scuttle it? At lest it got passed through Congress, and gutted as it is now, it still looks way better than Trump’s promised, still-awaited “beautiful healthcare for everybody, and cheaper!’ Solution.
Good luck Jim, thinking the fools flying the plane into the side of a mountain will somehow have an epiphany and realize how badly things have gotten before it is too late.
Jimmy Carter back in the 70’s while President tried to warn us about conserving energy and he was laughed at, mocked and lost the election to Ronald Reagan who put the pedal to the metal. We have been warned numerous times but we refuse to listen.
Chris Martenson has seen first hand the absolute level of DESTRUCTION of land air, water, resources and pollution that the Shale Industry produces.
Gail Tverberg posted a comment made by Rear Admiral Hyman Rickover who said back in 1957 the following: “I suggest that this is a good time to think soberly about our responsibilities to our descendants – those who will ring out the Fossil Fuel Age. Ultimately, the nations which control the largest energy resources will become dominant. If we give thought to the problem of energy resources, if we act wisely and in time to conserve what we have and prepare well for necessary future changes, we shall insure this dominant position for our own country.”
Easy for him to say. He believed in nuclear energy.
‘Got family up in Minot, ND and have watched over the years the destruction of the small town from the shale process and the absolute glut of suburbia that has been put in, in the process. Crime has shot up and no one is going to live in those new suburbs in the future. Nice job ghettoizing the town shale industry.
The town appears and feels more and more haunted each time I make a trip up there.
Great article. Thank you for your efforts in this regard.
Another prescient post. All the current goings on suggest that we’ve lost our collective minds dealing with the cognitive dissonance of it all. New American Century indeed, albeit definitely not the one we imagined it would be when that term was first coined way back in the prehistoric days of the late 20th century.
Its because there isn’t any agreement on how to move forward. We disagree about who we are and what our future is to be. Until that can get settled (maybe it can’t be?) we won’t be able to move forward very effectively. Without a common and shared worldview how can a country really operate?
True that, SSL, but the reason we don’t have a shared world view is that a realistic one – managed collapse, or at least contraction – is unacceptable. Capitalist economies simply don’t do contraction, although I suspect we’ll find out soon enough how they do collapse.
America and the corporate global will do collapse very well. Collapse will be a spectacular success and everybody gets to participate.
And unfortunately that is because there aren’t many people who want to make less money. See its money again. I hate it!!!!!!
Yep. But the real economy’s been entirely commodified and monetized (not to mention discounted, other than for asset prices and essential services). That’s always been the goal.
Yes, the love thereof being the root of all evil even as the Bible saith.
Labor as a form of energy can’t keep up with Capital, which is currently unattached to the mechanisms of Labor.
When will the commies and nationalists acknowledge this openly? Maybe in 3 or 4 years.
Shit, half of us here are 5 years ahead of our time.
(The Third Bardo – I’m Five Years Ahead of My Time)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16_9mBUCf_c
Hey I like that! But you know I am not so sure Nationalists are not there yet in terms of recognizing that labor and capital are not synced up. I am not sure the Nationalists are even that organized to have a monolithic opinion on such matters. The Communists on the other hand have been around forever so their philosophies and strategies (at least the one’s they talk about publicly) are pretty well known.
More nationalists likely get it. Commies are debased. They change the rules everyday.
Yes, thus National Socialism is prescribed. The patient is near death and radical measures are called for. As Marianne Williamson said, post Angels (militant Trump supporters) everywhere.
It can’t move forward. America needs a new story. One might think that all that has to happen is for creative tribe members to step up and do their job but that can’t happen for two reasons.
Appropriate stories never make it to the mainstream and Americans can’t read anymore. America is intellectually illiterate. Where else in the world would people who have too much money complain about the cost of getting smart. To me being a smart dog is priceless, but that is just me.
Besides stories that have all able bodied men going to the commons to put in a day of farmin a week on top of whatever else they do is not a popular story.
So its a lack of creativity and perspective then. So this is another reason why the mainstream media needs to be busted up. They end up controlling the narrative and it’s completely corporate and caters to the lowest common denominators. I agree that we need a new story. I can’t imagine what is so not popular about going to the commons to put in a day of farming a week! The new thing is supposedly a desire for smaller towns, neighborhoods, places for people to gather and farmers markets and all that. Please don’t tell me this is just trendy thinking without any real substance behind it.
So its a lack of creativity and perspective then. So this is another reason why the mainstream media needs to be busted up. They end up controlling the narrative and it’s completely corporate and caters to the lowest common denominators.
You got it!
This is not trendy thinking at all. We will have to sacrifice a few freedoms; to eat. If it is trendy then it is trendy because starving to death is not trendy. No oil, no climate, no work. That equals no food. None of this is trendy. Trendy implies choice.
The left here are already attacking the farmers market.
A young family farm with 2 young children are being put through the ringer by our sjw’s after being found out as supporters of Identity Europa.
The city council has had at least 2 (maybe 3?) meetings about this subject and they basically told the city that they can’t kick out the vendors for their politic views. The farm was not advertising their support in the first place.
That is ridiculous and insane but it doesn’t shock me. White is the new Black, forget Orange. Orange is the new Purple. At least for Blacks who wear Orange. Anyway, all that to say that celebrating White identity is nothing more than racism, a hate crime maybe (?), and definitely something you could lose your job, livelihood, etc., over. Yet Browns, Blacks, Reds, and Yellows get whole months with which to celebrate their identities. Oh and the celebrations are mandatory. Whites will have to face the open discrimination and thought policing head on. These are some of the fruits of multiculturalism and they’re both bitter and poisonous.
For anyone who’s confused about whether “white supremacy” is or isn’t a significant issue: it is, and SSL‘s remark about a ‘common and shared worldview’ should be understood as a white-supremacist dog whistle. (I’ll treat white supremacy and white nationalism as interchangeable terms, referring to more or less the same thing.)
Not that a common and shared world view is a bad thing in itself. The issue is that there’s more than one of those on offer right now. On one hand, there’s the view that America is a country for all its citizens (including immigrants that America chooses to accept). This view, one that’s aligned with America’s avowed principle of equality under law, is the one that currently prevails.
That view is threatened, however, by another which holds that America is or should be a country of, by and for white people, and that those who don’t fit the received idea of being white shouldn’t receive an equal share of the benefits of living there. That’s white nationalism. This view, disturbing as it may be, aligns with much of the actual practice of American history — a fact that lends it strength, if not beauty.
(including immigrants that America chooses to accept)–man are you a fool or just a smart guy who has been fooled?
chooses?
It may be drug induced.
It’s still possible for people to immigrate to the USA legally and get accepted, is it not? Sure looks that way. The USA naturalized 7.4 million people over the past decade. That is, it chose to accept them. Like it, don’t like it, whatever, but that’s the fact. Jeez, calm down.
Except they aren’t. Or not universally. Is there Chinese supremacy in China? Of course. Black supremacy in Black countries? Indubitably. So why shouldn’t Whites get to be supreme in their own lands? Oh that’s right, you don’t think we should have our own countries like other races. Who is the real bigot here, Elrond?
I live in a town with one of the Dalai Lamas brothers. His brother owns a Tibetan restaurant. The Dalai Lama is making many of the same points as so-called white nationalists. Is the restaurant now a White Nationalist establishment??
White Nationalism is a just a CORPORATE CODE WORD for Nationalism.
And what do you think is going to happen with every race/ gender / and mental disorder given a raised platform and microphone and then white communities from sea to shining sea are given the message that their customs, beliefs, and protestant work ethic are only worth discarding.
White Nationalism my ass! I can’t believe people old enough to be retired, or likely so, are mute to this thought.
I get why blacks, mexicans, women have in-group preferences. I’m not so thrilled about our history of slavery. But the social framing of history along the present is simply a psych-op to separate you more and more from you autonomy.
Are you saying you don’t understand why Whites would have in-group preferences? I am so sick of hearing about slavery personally. I mean what race hasn’t held captives after battle, etc.? This stuff has been going on since the beginning of time. Not that it is right. But to think White people have some special claim on bad behavior is just not good or healthy. It’s ok to admit you have an inner Brute. Your inner Brute is probably much more of a gentleman than DeShawn’s, Miguel’s, or Ahmed’s if I had to guess.
The Dalai Lama is a Non-White White Nationalist. He said Europe should be for the native Europeans – Whites in other words. The man is a bro, a mensch, a bodhisattva. You on the other hand….
EVERYONE (look! there goes a rainbow flag) should have in- group preferences.
Ahh..Janos doesn’t like something someone said because he took it in the most derogatory way he could imagine.
No shit I’m not a bodhisattva. Nice insult. : P
Yeah cuz only Whites ever had slavery. News flash: We made the Africans and Arabs give it up. But it’s back again. Without the White Men, they revert quickly. We’re not perfect – just better.
Nope! I didn’t blow no damn dog whistle! White Supremacy and White Nationalism or totally different to the super complex and discerning mind. White Supremacy as the words themselves suggests refers to an individual who believes the White race is supreme to all others. Whereas, a White Nationalist is an individual who advocates for the establishment of a White country or countries. The two or not necessarily and/or always interchangeable. Now you know that but you are trying to simplify things so that you can get the upper hand in this discussion but I won’t allow that. Now, since it disappoints you that America was founded by and for Whites, what say you about the goings on in South Africa? Surely, you vehemently disagree with the fact that the new SA government is trying to create a country by and for Black people right?
>>> including immigrants that America chooses to accept
Gee I don’t recall getting to vote on any immigrants. The closest I ever got to a choice on this issue was the 2016 POTUS election. I’ll get another vote in 2020.
Elrond, your lie count is now at 5276.
Of course, this is all absolutely correct, including its catastrophic consequences. Life on Earth will never be the same. However, the upside, if there is one, is that humans will have to face what it means to be human again. The character of the American people is now so degraded that it will take an event, such as described in this essay, to begin the process of rebuilding their physical, mental and spiritual health.
We can argue endlessly on the question of whether the result of financial collapse will lead to a regeneration of human social effort or a situation described by Cormac McCarthy in The Road. God help us if it’s the latter.
“The character of the American people is now so degraded that it will take an event, such as described in this essay, to begin the process of rebuilding their physical, mental and spiritual health.” –shotho
If only. An important reason that collapsed civilizations invariably move into a dark age is that the generations that live through that collapse are already mostly out of their minds as you point out — collapse drives them even further insane. It takes a few more generations for those who grow up in the midst of hardship to begin rebuilding civilized community.
I have no hope for the great bulk of this society to begin acting rationally. Calamity will abound, most will die. The few of us that are preparing for what is coming will probably not survive the insanity and violence that will prevail among the majority. For us, our best hope is to build sustainable small-scale community right now while we still have the chance.
Yes Farmer, chaos shall breed ever more chaos and insanity will get ever more crazy.
Our best hope is to build sustainable small-scale community right now while we still have the chance.
If it is not too late already that would be a very good idea. Need a dog?
If such dog would chase the damn mule deer out of the garden, then yes, need a dog (eight foot fencing is in the works, but is currently low on the priority list — and poaching the deer for meat in not yet necessary having freezers full of home-grown beef).
I don’t think it is yet too late, except that so few people are willing to live the kind of quasi-monastic or feudal lifestyle that it requires. My farm is open to any who would choose to fit in, but it’s a rare individual who will content themselves with having little more than their survival necessities provided through long hours of hard work (as my wife and I are doing) — instead they want to be generously paid in cash money with ample leisure time to spend it on wasteful self-indulgence and luxury. The idea of reducing cash outputs to as near to zero as possible is anathema to even the greenest hipster or environmentalist millennial…
Obviously, the inevitable will change this, though being forced into serfdom by necessity will no doubt breed resentment and hostility. Brings to mind some characters from JHK’s WMBH stories.
I’ll shave myself bald the day America deals with reality. America will deal with reality when it has to and not one minute before!
Might want to shave it all anyway if it keeps heating up. Panting’s not going to be enough.
I can do a lions mane!
You’d be an internet meme in no time!
I’ve been successful enough to be careful for what I wish for.
“I’ve been successful enough to be careful for what I wish for.”
Dog,
Actually you may have been successful enough BECAUSE you are careful what you wish for.
As am I.
Well wait a second. Won’t you have to shave your whole body K-Dog lol? You have a real thick coat of hair I thought :-)?
For starters it would require a leader who wasn’t an infantile, narcissistic, simpleton.
We are doomed.
Trump sucks, Trump sucks, Trump sucks will never cure a single problem. It does however, speak volumes about those who spout this credo.
Like the entire docket of Dem wannabes.
There is not one of them that has a clue about what it will take to adjust to what is coming. They are all gimme artists and that is just the opposite of what is needed.
Trump is right about Ilhan hating the America that has been so good to her. Ditto your heroine, AOC. They should go back. They must go back – even if they were born here, it never took. They are not spiritually Americans. The spirit saves, but the letter killeth as St Paul said. Their technical American citizenship is nonsense which will kill us if we aren’t careful.
The American consuming public will never give even half a damn about oil production/depletion until the price of gasoline skyrockets at the pump or we return to the gas line terrors that accompany natural disasters, but on a full time basis due to lack of supply. Then they will care and then they will demand action. Until then it will be happy motoring and larger and larger land barges to transport their clans to recreational events.
In the meantime, few will listen and many shall come here to distract, deny, or otherwise demean your prime thesis that limited supply requires conservation of resources and plans for replacement. I do believe that many are counting on alien intervention to save us and perhaps there are even a few of those who frequent this place already.
Walter B
The public is too stupid to realize what is coming, These are people that have no idea where gas comes from, or even the food they eat. The stupidification program that the libs put into our society is working well. The illegals do not help.
Declare them legal and declare America to be a right to work nation. Problem solved. Except for the eating part.
Declare all the illegals legal? That what Bush said too. Ignorant minds think alike.
It was done under Ronalds watch and guess what more of them came!
We don’t need more people we need some sanity.
So essentially you are telling me that you are prepared to accept life in a country of land whales riding land barges lol. Thankfully though Walter, we have some people like you who are working for the better at the local level. That is where everything will happen anyway at the end of the day.
The Land barges will cease rolling when the fuel can no longer be had affordably, and the manipulators will sell the next “great” fuel saver vehicles if there is any credit left to be had by the consumers. Year round motorcyclists like me will probably be the last gasoline users because it takes so much less, but walking can be fine as long as you can tailor your needs to suit.
Thank you for the compliment about our struggle in our local government. Our primary win has the self-center, self-serving social media assholes who hold power now “in shock” as our municipal employs tell us. The most difficult part is getting through the 7 long months of lame duck rule until the real changes will be made. I know there as those out there who are fighting the local battles just as we are and I would encourage everyone who cares and who can, get in there and give ’em hell! It may not change the whole rotten system but it really feels good once the ball is in your court.
Time to get in shape for bike commuting again. The e-bikes are exploding in these parts.
Exploding like a cherry bomb? Must be the lithium batteries! Forget the e-bike. With a dead battery it is just 20 lbs excess weight. Get a real bike with a trailer and get in shape to ride it. Also get some spare tires and tubes and learn to fix the damn thing. Your skill will be in demand. You can make deliveries to the land whales for barter goods.
Agreed. Regular bikes are booming too. I’ve got about ten more pounds to go and I think I’ll start looking into them.
The aging population isn’t going to take well to being forced to bike. But even more detrimental to bicycling is the fact that most of us can’t do it more than 6 months a year, in the far north even less. (And personally, I like bikes.) But they simply are not practical as reliable transportation in much of America.
I love biking! I fly on miserable airlines to go biking. I bike to work once a month on principle–I could do it everyday but am lazy–it’s 3.2 miles. I can only conceive of a vacation as taking a bike trip. Everyone is wistful when I describe it. You can drink sugar rum drinks on the beach and call it decompressing but to exercise a little bit and sniff the world is heaven.
I have one huge disagreement with our host-suburbia. It’s not the best but it is going to have to work because that’s where everybody lives…
Alien intervention? As much as there’s a lot of evidence that something is out there, I doubt they’d save our collective asses, unless we showed we were worth saving. It might be like bailing someone out financially who has massive debts, no income, and terrible spending habits. You might “ease” their suffering, but they’d be back to their old situation quickly.
Look at the folks who win the lottery, and go back to being broke shortly thereafter. Essentially, humanity won the ‘energy lottery’, and even if we were given another winning ticket, we might wind up back right where we started, or worse.
A bit more on this ‘tickle of alien space bats’: https://peakfuture.wordpress.com/2019/06/11/the-tickle-of-alien-space-bats/
What would rehab for humanity as a whole look like, anyway? Anyone suggest a twelve step program for industrial civilization?
Speak for yourself! The aliens are my friends and I can get to my destination in less than twelve steps ;-).
I was not referring to “real” aliens as much as I was alluding to alien deception.
I’ve always suspected that the aliens are just waiting to ‘harvest’ humans. They were hoping for 8 Billion, but are probably not going to take the risk and wait to see if we make it that far. The plan is to herd the humans into feeding and watering shelters and then freeze-dry them to be shipped back home as pet treats.
My understanding is they will harvest the Canadians first as Americans are deemed to toxic.
Agreed.
Rescue by aliens is crazy. It is not about rescue. Globalization reached limits and the appropriate thing to do now is to move production off-planet. GTO must happen. We don’t need alien rescue. We need alien markets. Growth demands it. We need:
the Galactic Trade Organization.
Seattle did WTO so we can do GTO too. Pandora here we come.
Because America will DIE before it gives up capitalism. Everybody of sound mind and body having to work. Oh hell no! Rentier America won’t have it.
“Rescue by aliens is crazy.”
Dog,
Not so crazy.
Columbus rescued the American Continents;
The English rescued Australia;
We rescued the Indians…and the Blacks.
The Germans tried to rescue Russia;
Whole lotta “rescuing” going on….
Seattle did WTO so we can do GTO too. – K-Dog
=============
We have done GTO. It was made by the long defunct Pontiac.
…and luckily, we now have a ‘Space Force’ to police it…
Some of us are going to be space lifted out of here at the 11th hour, kept in storage for a few decades and then reseeded to begin again once the masses have died off. Go you to the hilltops when I indicate the time is near.
Jacques Vallee likely has the best theory on aliens with his Interdimensional Hypothesis. Likely the same notion in regards to polytheistic “gods” and demons (not to be confused with the conception of deamon).
For the person who mentioned humans being “farmed”, look up the word “loosh”. It is YOUR responsibility and yours alone to not give out your energy needlessly.
Folks better not count on aliens for help. About the same time The Long Emergency came out I read another book, Life and Death of Planet Earth. The authors contend that we probably haven’t been visited and that humans will probably never leave the solar system other than robotically. It kind of ruined Star Trek for me. Hurts to grow up and face reality.
Well geeze no reason to get down! Aliens don’t travel across space and time like that. They come through worm holes and travel through dimensions. We are like really analog to them and so are our ways of thinking.
If you have a taste for science fiction, SSL, may I recommend Blindsight by Peter Watts? The author has made it available for free online.
The Roman playwright Terence said, “I am a man; nothing human is alien to me.” You’ll understand that saying in a whole new light once you read that book.
Yes you may and thanks!
I have noticed over my lifetime that most things people can imagine have been brought to pass sooner or later. I expect Stargates will also be. Sure, we would have to send an actual mission, likely robotic, to set up a gate at the other end, but after that it will be easy to go back and forth. Whether we find other intelligent lifeforms is questionable, but we would open up new worlds to extract resources, and sometimes for settlement.
@SSL
What do you suppose happens to the worms?
Hmmm good question! And what kind of worms are they being able to burrow through time and space and all?
You can still watch re-runs. Janos and I know all the episodes by heart.
Leaving naught but bitter dregs. I never got into the later series too much though, even though I like Jean Luc Piccard. It just feels all wrong. The sixties revolution changed the Federation in ways to radical to describe. Evidently the hippies triumphed there and then as they did here and now.
I totally agree.
Butter56,
that book was surely written by a stance-materialist. What is so fine about outer space and other planets?
Last I checked, there were no vegetables, meat, drink, music, dancing, lush green forests, or the company of women to enjoy out there.
@B56
Sometimes that can be a problem with “learning” things from a book rather than figuring them out for yourself; the abrupt and violent nature of the discovery can be a shock to the emotional system while self discovery is often a gentler evolutionary process.
For example, it took me a half dozen years or so of occasional contemplation to figure out that there is no such thing as time. Imagine how unbelievable and yet, undeniable and totally unnerving it would have been for me to have encountered first, Einstein’s insistence that “time is an illusion”.
So, you believe that one can face reality, eh? I won’t shock your system. Figure it out for yourself.

Many decades ago, back in the 1960’s when I was in high school, I would from time to time have dinner at a friends’s house with his family. His father was a senior chemist and worked for duPont. I remember him saying at the dinner table, and I quote, “If you knew what can be made from oil you would realize that burning it as a fuel is a sin.” I always remember that comment. Unfortunately, America’s strongest suit has been abject profligacy, of which many are proud – to boot.
Agreed. I went home for Thanksgiving with a friend from college in 1969 and heard the almost the exact same quote from a senior scientist.
Your assumption, Jim, that people will have to become small scale farmers and grow their own food, I don’t buy it. Americans will never accept it. They will starve first. And steal from those that do. They’ve been taught their whole lives that working the earth is for losers. We import people to do that kind of work. Who wants to dig in the dirt in the hot sun? It’s buggy too. And fight off critters, like crop eating insects, woodchucks and deer. More importantly, few Americans are physically and mentally strong enough to do it. Have you seen your average American lately? It’s not a pretty picture.
Why do we import people to do “the dirty work”? Why are Americans not emotionally, physically, mentally strong enough to do the hard work of growing and harvesting food? I don’t buy your argument that all Americans are this way since I know many who don’t fit your criteria. But many are for sure totally unprepared for such work. So why have we been weakened to this point?
And what’s the deal with all these drugs? Some major character flaw perhaps, a weakness. Unwillingness to do what is necessary. I have a little garden providing approximately 20 of my 375 meals in 2019. I am on track for independent starvation…. Perhaps I could ramp it up in extremis….
I would say its a crutch for some people, an escape for others, and to some its just a natural part of life they have seen and heard about since they were growing up. Then on top of the drug thing there is a whole lot of unwillingness out there. But on the bright side you have a garden. If you have the space to expand then you’re that much further ahead.
@SSL
I sincerely doubt that Americans are fundamentally lesser creatures than anyone else or than they ever were.
‘pears to me that conditions have changed, mandates have changed, opportunities have changed, and choices have changed. I don’t believe that the critter’s wiring has changed.
Granted, there’s nothing quite as enlightening and empowering as successfully experiencing hardship and perhaps, there’s nothing quite as potentially debilitating and corrupting as pure privilege, but the fundamental construct of Homo sapiens is universal, I would say.
Most of us do and will do what we gotta do. It’s probably no more complex than that.
~toktomi~
Maybe that is what it is! Perhaps because many Americans nowadays have it made compared to people in the past or in other countries there is a certain level of pure privilege generally extant. Maintaining the status quo of course would then seem to be the thing to do to keep it all going.
Agreed. Few people realize the amount of intensive gardening and the work and materials that would be required to live off it 100%. And that’s where the climate would support it in the first place. Out west here it most definitely wouldn’t.
They’ve been taught their whole lives that working the earth is for losers. <— Good point. Very good point.
It is an odd twist but the same brain wiring that will cause a soldier to throw himself on a grenade to save his buddies will keep Americans from growing their own food. They will die first.
Second that: “Very Good Point”! I have no doubt that many will die first rather than live a subsistence agrarian life.
I can’t count the number of times some youngsters have come into our area with romantic notions about starting a small farm ‘homestead’ or such. They’re all gung-ho in the spring, till up a lot of ground and plant a ridiculous mix of veggies and such*; by mid July they’ve abandoned it because the weeds have taken over and it’s too hot out for them to be willing to do anything about it.
*A gripe of mine: One of the first things a lot of aspiring ‘homesteaders’ do is put in a bunch of fruit trees. Ever given much thought to how fruit trees are going to keep you well fed through the winter?
You can the fruit? Of course it takes awhile until there is fruit to can. And one can’t live on just fruit, but it helps.
Fruit is a luxury, not a survival necessity. Canning fruits (or freezing or dehydrating etc.) provides a sugary treat (which we certainly enjoy) in the dead of winter, but contributes very little to a healthy diet. The work to preserve tree fruits displaces work spent on far more valuable food items: butchering and preserving meats, cheese making, lacto-fermenting various veggies, threshing and cleaning grains and dry beans… or chopping and stacking firewood to stave off freezing to death.
My point was that fruit trees should not be the top agri-priority in setting up a homestead, not even close to top.
Now, on the other hand, if you want to talk about the wonderful benefits of hard cider, that’s another great discussion; but still not a survival necessity.
Fruit is rich in prana or chi. Try it when your bowels are sluggish. I’m not talking about the roughage either. Immediate like, if you pardon my French. It stimulates the downard or voding prana. On a lower level, it gives a valuable sugar boost when tired.
I’m certainly not arguing against the value of fruits in the diet, especially dark colored berries rich in various anti-oxidants. You make a number of excellent points on their benefits. My ‘gripe’ on the issue is in the misplaced emphasis given to establishing orchards as a high priority in the setting up of a subsistence homestead. There are many more important things to accomplish first.
Speaking of which: have you seen the movie The Biggest Little Farm which is playing around right now?
No, any good?
In 1968 my mother dragged my 13 year old ass over to Mr Huber’s farm for a taste.
My younger brothers and I picked, in their seasons, lemons, peaches, and cantaloupe. Each time a short day, four hours tops. No mas. Field work is done at the tops of ladders by people blinded by sweat and bugs. It is done by people whose backs hurt even before they stoop to pick my garnish.
I know a few Americans. Most of us still think we have a work ethic. But a man’s gotta know his limitations.
Yes, it is unnatural – like all “jobs”. Man was meant to be a hunter gatherer. A little bit of this and a little bit of that. Every day different. The Bushmen work an average of 15 hours a week – in a harsh land, being driven into the wastelands by the Negro Conquerors.
Industrial Civilization will justify itself once we regain this level of leisure and freedom, without the uncertainty and relative material povery – and not before.
Vote Yang. A vote for Yang is a step towards a return to this paradise but at a higher turn of the spiral.
“Your assumption, Jim, that people will have to become small scale farmers and grow their own food, I don’t buy it. ”
Neon,
Our host’s assumptions have merit. Consider a time-line where the unfit do starve, and those given to theft receive harsh justice. Men do what they have to do, not necessarily, what they want to do.
Weak men bring hard times…hard times breed strong men.
…Think a few generations in advance.
elysianfield, what if we don’t have a few generations. Assuming we had the time, how would this transition be accomplished? Federal government programs to teach people to raise food and giving away seed?? The government doesn’t want you to grow food, they want you to be dependent on Big Ag. Think of the communities across this land that punish people for growing food in their front yards. Lawns are preferred. It’s nuts.
I read today that by 2050 twice as much food will need to be grown to feed all the people the world. Good luck. That’s one generation away.
I intensively grow 50%-60% of the food I consume, which I do on a 1/4 acre plot. Been doing this for 35 years, by choice. It’s hard work, especially as I get older. And let me tell you I ain’t no spring chicken.
You fertilize it with your own excrement like Ted did?
If he doesn’t, then he’s blowing it. Humanure Rules!

Neon,
Considering a harsh future, with a significant die-off in the Urban areas, survivors will learn that life is hard, brutal and short. The pre-WWII generations understood privation and were grateful for what they had…most knew hunger at some time in their lives. Hard men are generated in an environment where a future is not an absolute given. Two or three generations of struggle might bitch-whip our culture into one of respectability…there are consequences, of course.
I also grow a garden, not a plot, but rather a kitchen garden of 147 running feet on the deck of our house. Been planting fruit trees since the early 90’s on the place…currently have over 100 fruit trees, most bearing.
“I ain’t no spring chicken”…
You can consider me a “stewer”….
I agree. People are the way they are because they can get away with it. Government bails them out. If it is a choice between working in the fields or starving, most will eventually suck in their gut and get to work. Others will steal what those produce rather than work, so feudalism will again come to the fore. Those with arms, soldiers, and defensible positions will provide protection to those who will submit to them and produce food. In return, the serfs will get protection but will lose their freedom.
At some point such things will have to happen, but our collective ability to pretend it won’t approaches the supernatural. At it is now, I’m either exhausted from the wait, or old age has caught up with me. The current iteration of modernity we inhabit is extremely fragile, and way over-extended.
Comment on JHK statement.
His comments on what is going to happen in response to the downturn in oil, like the dismantling of suburbia, sound very similar to the imposed reaction if AOCs Green New Deal was implemented.
A comment in the latest book I am reading intrigued me. The same things of geopolitics and generational demographics that have made America “The Accidental Superpower” are going to help bail us out relative to the rest of the world in the next fifty years. Not that we won’t be hit, just significantly less.
Anything interfering with energy generation or capital formation is going to tear things apart more. Also, more limited government interference will enhance the response.
Boy was I upset when it appeared that Taco Bell would not have enough ingredients for some of the items on their menu. Another crisis averted though if today’s news is accurate. Please don’t let that be fake.
Now, if you entertain fantasies that you can survive on your backyard garden, don’t bother. You can’t. You won’t. You can’t be a successful gardener without a strong back, good soil, storage and preservation knowledge, fertilizers and gasp, some pesticides. That assumes a source of reliable water, protection from varmints and no next door neighbors. Oh, and you won’t be able to use seeds from last years harvest because the big farm corporations have made everything hybrids and you have to buy their seed annually. Only there won’t be any internet to order nor a brown truck to deliver your life saving goods.
But while you are busting your ass trying to raise food, you also need to be cutting wood for the coming winter. The chainsaw won’t work because gasoline doesn’t last forever even if available. So, back to the handsaws and axes. Uh oh, you slipped a disc and can’t move? Did you save a bullet for yourself? Oops. You live in a gun free jurisdiction so you cannot even shoot yourself and you are in too much agony to arrange hanging. Oh my!
So, you do have a year’s supply of dried food. Yummy. But damn, you need fresh water to mix and then fuel to heat. Is that pack of feral dogs back again? I can’t get to the water and besides, my back won’t let me move. I can’t even wipe my own ass the pain is so great.
And that is life in the small town. Imagine a high rise apartment. Say you are on the 17th floor and the elevators don’t operate? A key portion of Manhatten was without power for 5 hours and people were nuts.
Prep? Why bother?
Yeah! Better to be a nomadic hunter-gatherer. That is the way we started so they say. Maybe that was the best way to be all along? Though it is nice to have conveniences and medicine and stuff. But then it seems like sometimes the less “things” and responsibilities one has, the better.
There won’t be anything left to hunt but each other. We so outnumber the game now. Hopefully, we can ease our living standard down like Sully did that airliner instead of augering in.
Yes, Cannibalism is coming back. The Abos hunted each other as game. Sometimes even eating their own children, but that’s going too far in my book. But our abortion industry is easing in that direction too.
Too bad there isn’t a planet that can support a billion hunter-gatherers in our solar system. If there were; Musk could save us.
And the other 6 billion plus could die knowing they did their part.
Perhaps some see prepping in the same vein as that old joke about two people being pursued by a bear – “All I have to do is outrun you…”
Some good points RB. I just forked up all the garlic and it is probably close to 90 here in the shade. Good crop this year though. I find the biggest problem I have here is the rabbits, they are out in record numbers this year but thems I can dispatch with the pellet gun. If the shit hits the fan it will be the two legged critters and I really don’t want to shot my neighbors. As an aside I picked a whole bunch of peppers and I think that this is the earliest ever in the season. GW?
Second that: “Some good points RB”
The realities he outlines are formidable — only a dedicated community (village?) of strong, hard working folks can approach true self-sufficiency. And that’s assuming they have a good back-stock of appropriate clothing and WORK BOOTS (one of my major concerns — I use up work boots like crazy) since there is no textile industry in the US of A, and nobody even knows what a cobbler is nowadays.
To Elmo: good to hear you got a good garlic crop. And if you’re not willing to eat those rabbits, your chickens would do it: turn them into eggs and later on, chicken soup.
Chickens kill rabbits?
No, YOU kill the rabbit, rip it apart, and the chickens will do the rest. They are fundamentally carnivorous, you know.
They would certainly kill baby rabbits for themselves, just like they do to mice or other small rodents.
I didn’t know. Too bad the Mallagasy killed off the ten foot tall Dodo bird. They must have been able to kill a man like the chickens kill mice.
Or the way an ostrich or emu can kill a man — I’ve done battle with emus — they scare the hell out of me.
Janos
This, if I recall correctly, is the second time you’ve referred to the ‘10 foot dodo’. Not so, though. The evidence points to a 10- 17 kilogram bird, around a metre in height. Where do you get such incorrect information?
…and the dodo’s Demise was swift following its discovery on Mauritius by the early European explorers looking for a quick bit of fresh KFC on their travels. The locals didn’t destroy their resources – that was so effectively achieved (in many places) by the ‘rescuing’ white race’.
>>> The locals didn’t destroy their resources – that was so effectively achieved (in many places) by the ‘rescuing’ white race’.
Tell us more about how the white race destroyed the resources on Easter Island. And are those whites chopping down the Amazon forest? And what about Ethiopia? Somalia? Haiti? Whitey’s fault, eh?
So glad racists like you have come out into the light. Maybe it will discourage the white race from going the way of the dodo.
“Prep? Why bother?”
RB,
….cause some of us have been doing all that you describe for years…and are self sufficient…oh, and what was that gun free thing? …Snort.
Feral dogs? Yum….
Reminds me of my experience in St Thomas USVI some years ago. The island had been devastated by a category 4 hurricane. There was so much damage that martial law had been declared, “looters will be shot on sight” signs, guards with automatic weapons were everywhere and the FBI was running the airport. There were several large, multi-story hotels on the island. They were strong enough to not have been severely damaged. Alas, because there was no electricity the elevators didn’t work and there was no running water; high buildings require pumps to get the water to upper floors. Without water, toilets do not flush. With the high heat and humidity and no AC, these hotels became unlivable very quickly; a crude shack with a back yard and a rainwater collection barrel was much better.
@RB
“Prep? Why bother?”
After a brief but rather insightful summary of doomsville, you conclude with this tripe?
I can only speculate that you are an idiot or a liar or a jolly prankster.
…or maybe all three or maybe none of the above
>>> whatever
Here is, quite simply, why bother.
1. It’s not a choice. It just happens when it happens. Which is to say that healthy survival genes cannot be denied.
2. option a) don’t prep > 99.999% early retirement; option b) prep > 99.998% early retirement
3. Irrational optimism
So, which is it with you and the tripe?
~toktomi~
1. Your reply makes zero sense to me.
2. People who use the word “whatever” get no future attention from me.
3. I hope your need to be insulting is satisfied. I shall be grateful you are not my neighbor.
Best.
Does anyone here listen to a guy on You tube> Ice Age Farmer?
Looks interesting. Thoughts?
It did look interesting and it was briefly considered as a link on my own website a few weeks ago. But since it is phony bullshit intended to distract from genuine issues I round filed it and put it where it belongs.
I used to think the ‘other side’ deserved a say but I came to my senses. The other side has plenty of say but we have an entire culture built on what they say. As it is now, their say is over-represented.
If solar energy varied enough to counter global warming real science would know about it, so end the ‘solar minimum’ story already.
“Real science” is regularly behind the curve. There are so many examples. Too many scientists and their foundations have their vested interests at stake and so continue to discredit opposing views. The global warming racket is a primary culprit here.
These people don’t represent us – else they wouldn’t be replacing us. Makes sense, right?
No, it doesn’t, on the face of it.
The commodity markets, corn in particular, isnt buying a corn shortage meme thus far — its just a little elevated. And corn is the big midwest crop that supposedly all got “rained out.” The world isnt ending just yet. Dont get snowed. 🙂
The solution to all this is, elect Bernie Sanders, have him force Congress to repeal the Laws of Thermodynamics, so there will be no friction and nothing will ever wear out, and all be cool forever.
Define Pi to be 3.14 too. Get rid of that infinity of numbers that go beyond the decimal point without end. Life will be simpler.
“We’re faced with the imminent and rather drastic re-organization of everyday life in America without oil. It should be reasonable to assume that the process will be disorderly, and the longer we ignore it, the more disorderly it will be. Granted, it is a tall order for politicians to talk about things this scary. The hard truth is that intelligent responses to this quandary would require heroic effort and painful change — and would probably be emotionally unacceptable to voters.”
Thanks Jim. I’d argue that depending on the severity of the economic situation in the future, the US may be in a real catastrophic domestic situation which leads to similar conditions in your Made By Hand novels. However, I still am hopeful and think the ‘best’ future outcome may be the ‘slow burn’ over ‘going over the cliff’. I don’t think anybody but a committed extremist or anarchist of some kind really wants a full disintegration, anyway. That involves some very severe human pain and death, particularly amongst the youngest and oldest. If there would be some kind of incremental step down– that might be the best outcome. In a way I think that has been happening over a couple of decades now. There is certainly a quality degradation of many consumer products. It’s easily observable in many sectors. People in their 30s or younger may not understand that– however anyone living when many machines & vehicles were built for durability and toughness easily acknowledge that fact. It’s much easier today to simply throw it away versus attempting to fix anything. Most everything has become plastic fantastic crap, anyway. It’s a throwaway society.
OK. I’m done for now LOL. My coffee is wearing off.
PeteAtomic- got to be careful about ‘the old stuff was longer lasting’; there’s always survivorship bias to think about. But a good many things were built a bit stronger, as there was a bigger safety factor, since we didn’t have the ability to model/simulate things to a high degree of fidelity.
Also, in some sectors, it was better to build things to last – old Ma Bell dial phones are a prime example. Some things have changed for the better; automobiles are far safer, but far more complex.
We are certainly more of a throwaway society. Anybody got any numbers/data on this?
Ha! “…old Ma Bell dial phones…”
We still own and use the dial phone from my parents’ house that my wife and I chatted on during our high school courting days pushing fifty years ago…!

Farmer M,
We should do some translation for our less advantaged foreign readers;
Komaraden Finc!
Dial phones were contrivances that party members used to communicate with one another.
Parents house was a privately owned residences;
“Courting days”…consider Berlin April 1945…only with consent….
Thanks for clarifying that.
I’m old-school monolingual.
“ot to be careful about ‘the old stuff was longer lasting’; there’s always survivorship bias to think about. ”
yeah, you are right.
Interesting point. It seems like a throwaway society will also be a society that is easily thrown away itself. After all, literally everything is seen as disposable, including people. Its maybe some sort of law or principle? Is there a correlation between how “throwaway” a society becomes to how “throwawayable” the society itself is? Gee, maybe I need coffee now lol!
How was the Storm?
I have what the Hill People call “the Shining”. So do you. Maybe the aliens will seed us together as a new Adam and Eve once the time is right. This is depicted in Nicholas Cage’s (the greatest actor of our time) movie, “Knowing”.
The Stone which the builder rejected will become the Cornerstone.
“This is depicted in Nicholas Cage’s (the greatest actor of our time) ”
omg, wow
well he is one of the most.. prodigious anyway LOL
It really wasn’t that bad in my little neck of the woods. Lots of big wind gusts and the nuisance power outages and extra yard cleanup. But no Noah’s Ark and I was glad because they scared me with the rain predictions.
Nicolas Cage is a great actor!!!! I haven’t seen “Knowing” so I’ll have to try and watch it. It would be amazing if we were so chosen wouldn’t it? I always felt like I was made for something greater than what my life seems to be. Maybe it isn’t something I am just making up in my own mind after all! I always wondered why I seem electrically charged and lights often flicker when I am near.
Janos: ‘Maybe the aliens will seed us together as a new Adam and Eve once the time is right’
Hilarious! I figured quite some time ago that you have a super-inflated opinion of yourself, so I’m not so sure you’re TRYING to make funny here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re actually serious And SSL is ‘perfect’ for you…naive, impressionable and already besotted.
Speaking of throw-away society, the last few months I’ve been hiking more often and I can’t believe – when looking for them – how many middle paleolithic tools are littered everywhere. I’m up to about 250 pieces, most of which were no more buried than what it took a swiss pocket knife to dislodge out of the earth. I suppose it makes sense being neighbors to a state that was reputed to once count about 10,000 Indian mounds.
wow that’s enormous bud. 250 pieces? sheesh
“After all, literally everything is seen as disposable, including people.”
pretty much! I think we are in a heightened time of ‘disposable people’ for many reasons.
I have a refrigerator that has been in continuous operation since 1962. When i built a new office i moved it to my barn thinking the move would be the end of it. I was going let it dry out and use to store tools and ammo. I plugged it in and it fired right up. I have to defrost the freezer occasionally. It’s holding beer instead of ammo
I had one 1992-2010? 18 years.
The replacement is a lot lighter in weight.
I forget the old ones makers name. It was not expensive. The place it was from was known for low prices and is gone, after 70? years.
Malthuss,
I currently own an old refrigerator made in the mid 50’s…still runs, freezes and shuts off. I converted it into a beer tapper.
My parents moved to a condo in 1988 and I took the refrigerator. They had it for 20 years. It has cooled my beer in the garage (dust, and 110 degrees in the summer) since then. Inside my air-conditioned house I had to replace my “new” refrigerator (1999) last year….
‘the ‘slow burn’ over ‘going over the cliff’.
A catabolic collapse it has been called and a literary device is all it is. A bit of rational thought reveals a myriad of tipping points along any catabolic path. Sorry JMG. At any of these tipping points the probability of catastrophic collapse will be very high making the probability of a successful slow burn through all the tipping points next to zero.
I don’t think anybody but a committed extremist or anarchist of some kind really wants a full disintegration, anyway.
If wishes were horses fools would ride.
And would eat a lot of meat…
Just remember, every disaster movie begins with a scientist being ignored. In this case, I will put JHK in with the scientists who should be listened to, however we all know that’s never gonna happen.
Yes, he had a chart today!
I think you’re being sarcastic there, Dog, but I think he’s right in much of what he says, with regards to oil and the problems that are related to it. I disagree with him when he tries to pinpoint a time for things to occur. I also don’t agree with much of his politics, but I still think he sees things that others miss, and is a very good writer to boot. I think he’s worth supporting in his efforts.
Definitely Captain. Perhaps Dog Meat is one of those that believes that there is plenty of everything that we consume to last forever, and that technology will simply provide alternates when and if stuff runs out. Good luck with that. Not putting dates on cataclysmic events is fine and wise as well, but if it leads to the denial that such events will indeed occur one day, then it is deceptive and counter productive. We must also keep in mind that such foretold of events are always said to be a big surprise to the majority when they happen aren’t they?

Doggy style?
Any way you want. But don’t let me hear you.
Bark like a dog baby, bark like a dog!
Yep, it is sad that many can see the train wreck coming, but we can’t/won’t get off the tracks. It was the same before the 2008 financial crisis, I remember my brother and I talking about how bizarre things had become with all of the house flipping and easy mortgages before the crisis, and wondering how it would end.
It’s not just in this country. I spend part of the year in Lima, Peru. All around I see bunches of new apartment buildings being constructed where old houses once stood; it is almost a mania. Can’t help but wonder when that merry go round will crash, and what will happen to the construction workers, suppliers, etc. currently employed in this madness when it ends.
It breaks my heart to think about it, so most of the time, I try not to.
At least in Peru, the indigenous can bug out to the mountains. i hiked over Condor’s pass last summer, and then went to Machu Pichu. Up in the mountains, some of the Inka live like its 500 years ago. We visited one house where the only industrial goods I could see were pots, knives, and a battery powered radio. Literally everything else was crafted from local materials. They are some tough people!
Many of those people still in the mountains are Pre-Inca.
The last Inca Army was never defeated. They withdrew in orderly fashion, hurling threats and insults as they disappeared into the mountain mist. Thus some of the Culture has been maintained in remote areas.
Much more useful posting than the culture wars stuff. And since conventional oil essentially peaked in 2005, I look forward to lots more useful if not scary commentary. Thanks!
It was exactly forty years ago today that President Carter gave his “malaise speech”—-July 15, 1979
Good sermon. Bad speech. I do like cardigans.
I reread it. A lot of it was spot on but it was naive, too
@QJS
“cardigans” – old fart?
~toktomi~
And that was the point where the US voting-population decided to stick its collective head in the sand and have one last big blow-out with debt and the remainder of the easily-accessed fossil-fuel reserves. As John Michael Greer so saliently pointed out, it wasn’t some evil behind-the-scenes corporate conspiracy that brought about the screwed-up way things are now. Our economic and political leaders simply gave us what we told them we wanted, and the most powerful faction of those leaders had no problem assenting to that.
Advertising is a black art. They also tempted us in other words. The People are always hapless and helpless when left to their own devices. The idea of a People without a guiding Elite is simply Marxist fantasy – one they certainly don’t believe in either. Only the weak tea Cultural Marxists do, perhaps.
black is beautiful?
Carter was a visionary, if his ideas were followed we would be in good shape nowadays. Conserving energy and working on green energy platforms was the intelligent way forward.
Instead we got Reagan who put us on a course of endless debt, trillion dollar subsidy’s for nuclear and fossil fuel and the beginning of the decline in our standard of living.
Can any Conservative here point out policies that Republicans enacted that improved anything at all in the U.S.?
Did they ever conserve the environment, keep jobs here or reduce the national debt? I like to hear about it.
Except for Nixon, he was great on environmental issues.
@JH
Have you ever questioned, god forbid doubted, any of your childhood programming?
~toktomi~
We are not living in the time of John Glenn anymore and the US is not the land of milk and honey.
I went from thinking we are the best in the world, now we are one of the worst. I read that the US might have killed 37 million people all over the world since the Korean war.
Our shitty politics will be our undoing.
“Can any Conservative here point out policies that Republicans enacted that improved anything at all in the U.S.?”
Most political quizzes put me dead in the center, maybe very slightly to the right, but I’m certainly not in the camp that believes any of the “liberal” or leftist nostrums can solve our problems (I don’t bother voting) so I’ll take a stab at your challenge.
I am convinced that “Limits to Growth” exist, especially limits to human population and they are kicking in with a vengeance. IMV, the “Reaganomics” attempt to increase growth certainly has no hope of avoiding the unpleasant future that looms ahead of us.
Keep in mind that “Republicans” are not solely, or even mainly responsible for assembling the vast nuclear arsenals that exist, nor are they solely or mainly responsible for historical policies promoting growth. The divergences between Republicans and Democrats that exists today regarding growth and “defense” are fairly recent phenomena that took shape slowly, beginning in the post Nixon/Kennedy years, about the same time that an awareness of existential danger from environmental problems took hold in the national consciousness.
That divergence is, for me, best described as a disagreement between factions as to whether we can best avoid catastrophe by being “nice” (sharing and cooperative) with the world or by seeking “peace through strength”. Neither argument is without some foundation in human nature and human history, but I do not believe that either, or a combination of the two, can avoid a catastrophic reduction in human population.
However, given that the world is headed for a catastrophic reduction in human population (that’s a given for me, anyway), we are certainly heading for a world in which the strong will have a better chance of surviving. The Republicans have been a balancing force to the liberal nostrum that our best path is to lay down our arms and negotiate, a path that I believe would, and already has to a certain extent, only lead to a severe right-wing reaction.
We walk a knife edge in a rapidly destabilizing world and are approaching a chaotic bifurcation in human history. Neither party offers a rational analysis or “solution” to our problems that I believe has a chance of success. I would not attempt to predict whether we will fall to the right or left, but I believe a fall to either side will result in a repressive government and a dividing of spoils followed by war(s).
Chance will play a big role in who survives, and how, but the strong will have a better chance than the weak as long as we do not see an all-out nuclear launch between the major powers. I think we should be ruthlessly addressing that issue with the other powers, but we cannot until we give up hope of avoiding the coming wars.
For an idea of what I think a “rational analysis” looks like check out “Lifeboat Ethics” by Garrett Hardin (link below). Both parties and all “right thinking” people rejected this analysis, for varying reasons, when it was offered 45 years ago. That was about the same time I abandoned hope of avoiding the coming catastrophe.
https://www.garretthardinsociety.org/articles/art_lifeboat_ethics_case_against_helping_poor.html
BTW, if we, by some chance, stayed on the knife edge and did not fall off, that would result in a “1984” kind of world and a slow attrition of human population, but I don’t see any significant chance of that happening as a “stable” situation.
That was an excellent article, one that I agreed with before I read it. I always believed in the lifeboat analogy when it came to immigration.
I disagree with the push for an ever stronger military as the only reason to have one as large as ours is if there were another U.S. in the world. Our extreme belligerence makes us less safe, I see no reason why we can not treat China and Iran and Russia like any other country.
Creating another cold war is the height of stupidity especially when we can be destroyed by the countries we are constantly threatening.
Maintaining a rational defensive posture != “ever stronger military”.
IMO a great portion of our “defense” expenditure is for the purpose of maintaining the current “post Bretton Woods” economic hegemony – something I do not relish, but we have a tiger by the tail and letting go is a difficult business even if they wanted to (which most on the right do not want).
I did not say the far right had rational policies that I believed would create a peaceful world, I said they provide a balance in an unstable world and, barring nuclear holocaust, have a better chance of surviving (percentage wise).
So, the oil quandary bites at both ends: damned if it quits on us and damned if it keeps going
I think there is an unexpressed awareness of this in the collective mind of the financier-class, otherwise I really do think they would have stopped rolling over all those loans and cranking out new ones quite a while ago. 🙁
This mega-issue and its spinoffs are what looms behind all the pitiful political comedy of the moment, especially the incendiary buffooneries of race and “gender.”
Well, I guess so. But since so many of us might be meeting our proverbial Maker sooner rather later, I think there’s really only so much you should get upset or offended about the Tumblrina genderqueer peenginas, as silly and culty as they are. I know outrage is everybody’s favorite stimulant these days, but if one must have an unhealthy stimulant, you really do get a lot more mileage out of several strong cups of coffee. 😉
Power down in NYC for a few hours.
A hint of the future.
Back to peak oil! And sure, the debt bone’s connected to the oil bone.
Have y’all noticed that our host is popping up on others sites with increasing frequency? Today’s post is already up at The Burning Platform. Not yet on Zero Hedge, but Kunstler has been there lately. A day or two later you will probably see this on Lew Rockwell.
The first two have comments enabled. It is interesting to compare their comments with those here.
TBP is a more closed community, it appears. Six comments so far, all somewhat germane. Already on about abiotic oil.
ZH is a bit rowdier. And angrier. The comment count gets up there quick.
Both sites are plagued by accusations and counters of trollery. Lots of hustling for up and down votes.
My impression is that JHK’s weekly blog-posts have been featured on ZeroHedge for a while now. That’s my theory on how the comment-section here took such a sharp turn to far right about five years ago or so.
“That’s my theory on how the comment-section here took such a sharp turn to far right about five years ago or so.”
Venus,
Your post might be seen as dismissive. Is it possible that reality clouds peoples observations and judgment?
That how I got here. I’m not sure if it was from Zero Hedge, but I’m sure it was from a site that takes a rather sanguine view of the world (that’s mostly what I read).
I’ve long had a couple of books by our host on my shelf, but did not know of the blog.
Ilargi has, for a long time, been re-posting CFN in his Debt Rattle, usually the next day at The Automatic Earth as well.
And apologies for picking nits, but the chart you posted shows that US domestic petroleum production was actually down to five million barrels per day on the eve of the GFC, and the advent of the GFC momentarily pushed it down to four million a day. I think the distinction is worth making. 🙂
What looms behind? Seems like we got at least three tsunamis of events on their way. Head to higher ground? OK, if you can figure out where that is. And this isn’t counting the tidal currents of idiocy from coastal bastions of higher learning, or from Washington, where people like AOC keep us entertained. Now AOC has what it takes to make an entry into public life – tits and teeth – but she’s as dumb as rocks, dumber than Trump who makes you want to pound your forehead on the nearest table. And AOC evidently has a lot of company.
Back to the tsunamis: one is the on-rushing wall that JHK tells us about, the one that we can see with our own two eyes if we were so inclined, as the energy industry in its various forms does its price and production gyrations, beholden as it is to various political rivalries in the middle-east and to machinations of the world’s monetary authorities, but mostly to rapidly encroaching scarcity. JHK is right, shale oil is an arrangement without a future, or at least, a very short one, because this is one set-up that doesn’t pay its way.
The second is the absurd economic ordering we loosely call neo-liberalism, ridden as it is with nonsensical ideas, primarily that China and Mexico will indefinitely send the fruits of their industrial labors to the US, who in turn sends to China and Mexico in trade, um, what exactly does the US send in trade?
Your eyes do not deceive here either, the various financial chasms we see in business, like towering debt levels, and in statistical reportage, like massive trade deficits, have as their real-world expression the multitude of ruined communities whose economic mainstay moved to China and Mexico.
The third I already alluded to, it comes from the prior two; impossible financial numbers that nobody with an ounce of sense would seriously countenance. The figures just don’t pan out, and these aren’t matters that a bit of accounting jiggering will solve.
What kind of stage-show will the national treasuries come up with to reassure people with savings that their accounts are safe? Will they tell people with stocks and mutual funds to be patient, that this is a BUYING opportunity?
Last time it was all lights and smoke and pyrotechnics. They created money out of thin air to rescue Wall Street. But Main Street and maw an’ paw down on the farm didn’t make out so good. “Populism” was one outcome, and the election of Trump and other societal phenomena.
Will it be a different show next time? Or will physical and financial reality give Lagarde and Powell and Carney the hook? So which tsunami hits first?
“Back to the tsunamis: one is the on-rushing wall that JHK tells us about”
Volodya,
Who will not hear the cry; “Surf’s Up”?
Well…those who find the reality inconvenient.
“Serfs up!”
Slavery too.
If you don’t serf here, don’t surf here.
No people on Earth were more hierarchical than the old Polynesians. Surfing was for the Elite. A commoner caught surfing would probably be killed on the spot. Now of course their descendants think they were all saints. No like those evil White people….
You’re right. And there’s a lot of inconvenient realities, one of which hit the news in a big way a few days ago: Deutsche Bank. It closed down its equities trading and other stuff to the tune of 18,000 employees or 20% of its workforce.
D Bank has been a calamity for a long time, going back to the days of the Nazis but lately with one massive fine after another for malfeasance of one sort or another. So you look at the banking industry as a whole and you wonder are these guys just a dead weight around the world’s economy? What do we do about it? But there’s more than one dead weight. Look at the spectacularly money-losing uber. And is the internet worth the trillions that was poured into it? I know, I say this even as I post over that same thing. But that doesn’t answer the questions, all that money, was it worth it?
There’s many ugly things swirling round and round the toilet bowl.
I am not a millennial, but many millennials believe that AOC will be the first female American president within the next 20 years. Thoughts?
Will AOC be the millennial generation’s JFK? Demographically, in the next 20 years, conditions will be much more favorable for her ascendency. Also, we have elected extremely “unlikely” individuals in the very recent past.
‘Saw a photo recently of a Antifa-backing acquaintance with AOC at an event. Some dumb pill-head with a chip on his shoulder that mommy and daddy were able to get careers in academia and he not yet; puts out the most asinine poetry chapbooks.
Made me want to vomit. Total (cultural) faggot.
You always have to troll don’t you?
You know how phony and immature AOC is, and you are hopefully aware that the few AOC fans are so distanced from any measurable reality that nary a sound they make should be heard by any Adult.
AOC and JFK are two unrelated extremes, and the former will never be one percent as effective as the latter.
We need people like AOC and you to stop making sound and using air the Adults need.
If you want your world to improve, then please educate yourself on the concept of Reality. You are not there yet, but when you start to see and understand Adults you will know you are getting close.
“What kind of stage-show will the national treasuries come up with to reassure people with savings that their accounts are safe?”
MMT. There Is No Alternative.
“No country with railroads has famines”- Agnes T. Laut in “TRANSPORTATION” circa 1920.
There was better than a lifetime:1880’s to 1980’s; during which US railway matrix included many hundreds of rail branch lines into agricultural districts. Paradoxically, enough steel shall be in abandoned cars to smelt & roll into the several hundreds of thousands of miles of rail and hardware needed to replicate the maximum US rail mileage seen circa 1920.
Much of the 1920 railway plant ran electric interurban passenger & freight, significant percentage was hydropower. SF & LA railways fed on volts from hydroelectric source. More than enough renewable source right now to operate the coming Agriculture District rail links.
Unfortunately, getting railroad enhancement into conventional thinking is in the same order of difficulty as the idea of a nation of dirt farmers. Anybody on page able to talk about how kitchen farms were primary survival means for country people caught up in Stalin’s Collectivized Farms?. I am grandchild of some Russian forebears with Stalin survival experience…
It occurs there must be 100’s of Billionaires & 1000’s of millionaires in North America with native intelligence to grasp need for railway extension into Ag Districts as a simple idea of doing a wise thing for their own families, if not society as a whole? One might think wealthy portfolios shunning railway rebuilding include many with belief they would rather take chances in a “Last Man Standing” game of surviving a general famine. In a nation of war veterans, perfectly able to search & penetrate every last bunker and redoubt in them thar hills…
The world-devouring greed among economic elites is underpinned by deep irrationality. These guys just aren’t all that bright. They got to the top of the greasy pole but only by leaving broken economies in their wake and countries full of broken people and families and communities.
So, you bring up railways a a possible solution for the problem of food distribution. My guess is that in may happen in the end, but only after the Goldman Sachs of the world do everything in their power to discredit the notion because for the time being they have money to make out of dire scarcity. And, given that Goldman and their ilk have the ear of the Deep State, expect that the transition be exceedingly difficult and possibly bloody.
In short, it’s like you said, the wealthy would rather take their chances in a conflagration, which isn’t very bright as you so aptly pointed out, in a nation of war veterans.
Railroads.
If oil runs out? Rail ran on wood first, then coal then oil in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Wood is a joke. Wood will be gone in twenty years if oil runs out. Coal will probably be the fuel of choice as long as the current lot of nuts do not destroy its infrastructure. Oil, forget it.
Maybe we will have solar powered engines pulling freight and passengers through the Rocky Mountains, yeah right.
Oversimplification of the problem is a major obstacle to proper reaction, especially by the government. The government will be no help with the changes coming.
All you home gardeners that think that we will just go back to raising our own food. Do not make me laugh. What happens when any living species is over crowded? Mother Nature takes it out with disease. That includes our food and us.
Check out Daniels and “The Great Railroad War”. Great stuff.

Humanity is weak in the area of “prediction of consequences”, which is why we get ourselves into so much trouble–on personal as well as a group levels. Luckily, when necessity looms, we have the IQ, aptitude, and abilities to adapt, innovate, create, etc. in order to resolve our problems. The rub is when and if it is too late for the resolution. Hasn’t happened yet. We are still extant.
This is a love of the one magician.

Q.
Privatization of Soviet property, Clinton’s economic miracle of the 90s and financial crash of 2008
When the American Dollar Empire in early 1990s received a nice addition of about 500 million people and third of the globe (Eastern Europe + frmr Soviet Union), and the former Soviet elites agreed on privatization on the principle “We give you our country, and you help us to become Gauleiters-owners”, the FED printing press played a decisive role in this mutually sweet process, which at the time of the orgasm of privatization turned into not only a real philosopher’s stone, but also a financial endorphin.
Moreover, from the premonition of dollar trade in the largest piece of real estate in the world, the orgasm of copulating reached such strength that, according to rumors, during the era of the Clinton economic miracle, more than 20 trillion unsecured dollars were printed simply to express delight at having such a marvelous geopolitical partner.
And then came Putin and ruined everything.
Returning to the real world was painful, endorphin starvation was simply intolerable, and after Bush, instead of butting with Putin, found in his eyes the soul and together they began to try not only to slow down the printing press, but also remove from world economy the toxic decay products of these 20 trillion dollars, the transatlantic virtual convulsed and proclaimed the slogan “endorphins or death.”
Having been fed on Russia, which in his opinion was doomed to die as a result of a demographic catastrophe, the transatlantist turned into a virtual bull and prepared for the abduction of the invitingly spread Europe.
But at that moment a Texas cowboy Bush grabbed the bull by the horns and not only cut off the Clinton penis “MCIWorldcom”, which in an agitated state was turning into an “Information superhighway”, but also castrated the global virtual, mercilessly cutting off Alan Greenspan’s creative financial instruments.
Meanwhile, it was in these organs that not only financial endorphin was produced, but also the financial testosterone of the trans-Atlantic bull.
In addition, the freedom fighters of Bosnia, Kosovo, Chechnya, Afghanistan, etc., sucking on the bull’s penis, after losing financial endorphins, on the grounds of abstinence, fell into “international terrorism”, trying to snatch the next dose by force.
This conflict led not only to the paroxysm of the withdrawal syndrome in Al-Qaeda 911, but also forced the Clintonoids to first blame Bush for the abstinence excesses, and then, using controlled media, to mix Bush’s brilliant victory in Iraq with shit, turning it into defeat.
Meanwhile, Bush, with the help of Iraqi oil from the West Qurna field, was going to stimulate the growth of the American economy during the transitional period of sterilizing the excess dollar mass and controlling inflation if the Clintonoids, including Chinese and European, start converting these 20 trillions into material values.
The fact of the matter is that the capitalist system does not provide for other ways to destroy already printed money other than inflation, and Bush, who represents the interests of the real sector of the American economy, started printing dollars just to reduce the relative influence of Clinton money invested in stock markets. NASDAQ and AMEX, which by that time were already tightly controlled by the Bush Securities Commission.
Moreover, he dampened the negative effects of this policy, which led to an increase in oil prices to $140 / barrel by increasing world production by 20%, at the same time cheapening goods in the US by increasing imports from China and tying money leaving the stock markets to build a mortgage pyramid.
That is, in every way stimulating investment in real estate and housing construction on the principle of “the dollar will collapse, but the houses will remain, even if at some point they lose the solvent owners.”
Now, of course, it’s ridiculous to read economists’ explanations that the sub-prime mortgage lending was unnecessarily risky – this money simply had nowhere to go, and if they hadn’t been issued as mortgage loans to someone with above room temperature in the early 2000s, the financial system was would be destabilized with unpredictable consequences as early as 2001-2003
All the same cool guy this Texan cowboy from Yale!
This led to the fact that the dollar began a gradual decline against the euro to 1.6 EURUSD. And while not losing purchasing power in the United States, which ensured social stability. I remember how before the crisis in New York City, “tourists” from Europe went in herds doing shopping, frantically buying high-quality Chinese computers, so flying to the US for intercontinental shopping saved considerable bucks.
At the same time, all the newly printed dollars were received by the Bush clan – the real sector of the US economy, Asian economies and especially China grew due to the increase in the quantity and quality of goods exported to Europe and the USA, and Europe increased its financial strength due to the growth of the euro, though suffering from reduced production.
And only the Clintonoids who controlled the so-called high-tech, and in fact the virtual sector of the US economy, having forgotten about Bush’s amputation and apparently tormented by phantom pains, in impotent rage observed a decrease in the relative size of their imaginary penis, measuring of which was the only function of the financial system they created.
It seemed that in a few more years the world would return to a multipolar system, bypassing the economic and political collapse of the United States.
And then there was a certain catastrophe not only economic, but also historical, cultural and possibly metaphysical.
I honestly do not know what actually happened, but several obvious reasons for the catastrophe can be mentioned, not forgetting that these reasons cannot explain everything what happened.
To be continued…
“Well…those who find the reality inconvenient.” –elysianfield
Reality check. Since 1999 when the doomers were crying wolf over Y2K, the reality is there has not been a global economic collapse, nor a national economic collapse. Not a single day of nationwide bank closures. Not a single day of nationwide chaos. Not a single day of the nationwide civil war so many are jonesing for. That is the reality.
The tight oil “fracking miracle” was supposed to end two years after the fracking started… no more oil. Now it is being said we “papered over” the fracking crisis.
The laws of physics are the laws of physics. If there is no more oil, it doesn’t matter how much money you throw at it… you won’t get any more oil. “Paper over”? Ridiculous. The claims being made today are the same paltry claims made weekly for the last two decades.
Reality is not inconvenient. Perpetual petty prepper predictions of imminent doom do not represent reality.
I have a gun and a garden and I am going with your assessment….I believe otherwise.
But everything is just fine! USA Today and CNN said so!
@dtrump
“The claims being made today are the same paltry claims made weekly for the last two decades. ”
You said it. I will assume that is the level of your understanding of the issue.
The comic relief is nice from time to time. thanks
~toktomi~
Huh?
Imminent doom is not being forecast by anyone other than maybe your heroes, “the Squad”.
What is coming will take up most of the twenty first century. Change however is inertial, it will come in jerks, each one more painful than the last.
And as resources decline, people are going to die in response. Who dies first will be the geopolitical question of the century.
It’s all good – part of a higher plan.
The weakness of humanity is its universal weakness:
needs air to breathe, tight range of acceptable temperature,
not radiation resistant, unable to cope with large variation in gravity, life span too short, limited intelligence.
Such a life form cannot spread in the universe. But we seem now on the verge of creating that which is greater than ourselves — surely the ultimate heroic triumph.
I am talking about the solid state intelligence: thrives in cold (best near absolute zero) but can handle heat as well, next iterations (photonic computation) will be more radiation resistant, no atmosphere needed, unlimited life span, can handle high G-forces,…
Once this becomes self aware and self sustaining (repair, procreation, evolution) we are no longer needed. The deteriorating conditions will impress on us the importance of this mission and are thus also welcome.
Michael
Spiritually speaking, if there are no humans to share the universal grand plan, whatever that is, what is the point? If we invent robots to do the Star Trek thing, who will care?
Whatever the source of rational being that was given, my belief, to Homo Sapiens, without humans, who cares?
The earth is 4.5 billion years old, with life present for less than a fourth of that time. Without us here now in the last minute of the chronology of earth, who cares? What is the point!?
If God decided to give humans the gifts of the ability to tell right from wrong, the ability to reason and the ability to wonder why, do you think he is going to give up on us now?
If He does, who cares?
“Ponder this as you read the latest New York Times sponsored melodramas about “white supremacy” and the unfair pay in women’s soccer tournaments.” –JHK
Ponder this: Trump is trying to kill ACA. If Trump and the Republicans succeed, prescription drug prices would go up for millions of seniors; Medicaid expansion would be gutted; rural hospitals would close without the funds provided by the ACA; and young adults would no longer be covered under their parents’ insurance through age 26.
Ponder this: While we are waiting for the prophesied economic collapse people will be dying… today… now… The economic collapse fantasy which supposedly overshadows everything else, which supposedly makes everything else trivial… that collapse fantasy is killing no one.
ACA is dying on its own. Without the individual incentive, a tax taken out by the new tax law, the whole concept is unconstitutional as we will soon find out.
My main complaint about what is happening is on the GOP side. They had two damn years to come up with a health care plan that uses the market place to set prices fairly. They couldn’t even get close. They couldn’t even satisfy their own majorities. And Trump was not even involved except as a cheer leader. These brilliant law makers in this country are worthless.
I have sided with Medicare for all as a solution but after seeing the estimated costs, it will grind us into the dirt.
The real deal here is that we keep funding things as they are and get the level of service that is currently available. Going to single payer government control medical care will be doable with a big increase in taxation, and a big decline in service due to medical personnel leaving the field. Just like every other socialized medicine country.
I worked as an RN for seventeen years. I worked alongside a lot of British, Australian and Canadian nurses working as contract nurses because their pay at home was terrible. Obamacare and Medicare changes eight years ago so constricted the financial situation in the hospitals that the quality of work dropped significantly. Nurses my age got out as soon as they could, including me. This will affect all folks in this very thankless field.
Politically, if the country is ready for the change it will show in 2020. It will be the major issue.
And, with things shaping up the way they, at some point, we’re going to have to start just letting people die. All the progress that we bought for ourselves by winning the fossil-fuel lottery is going to have to go in reverse at some point in some areas, and that’s the optimistic outlook. 🙁
Now I understand why Norway has a monetary surplus close to one Trillion dollars (that’s T for Trillion). The population is around 5 million which means every person has a credit of $200,000 in the national rainy day fund.
The US on the other hand is hock for a zillion trillion. The greater fool game will not end well.
And if one million immigrants flooded Norway every year, what would happen to that surplus? What would happen to Norway’s relatively homogeneous culture?
Be proportionate, please. You’ve used an influx figure of 20% of current pop, which would be 60,000,000 annually into the US.
US Media: Russian Deepwater “Losharik” was engaged in bathymetric measurements
Bathymetry is the study of underwater depth of lake or ocean floors.
In other words, bathymetry is the underwater equivalent to hypsometry or topography.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathymetry
Well, that’s a nice way of putting it 🙂
Both countries have been mapping the ocean floor for many years. All the modern day world maps and a bunch of TV shows are showing the results of the bottom mapping. Sonar. For military purposes, watch Red October.
Satellite lidar has the capability to map subsea floors with 1 cm resolution. The ruse to claim submarine mapping of the ocean is a red herring ( no pun intended }.
Just for fun, go to Google Maps. Pick a state. Start with central Texas or east Texas. Pick some small towns and then using street view, tour the down towns. You will see closed store fronts, a loan business, a Merle Norman cosmetic shop, a ubiquitous antique “mall”, an insurance office, a law office, a parts store and one or two other businesses. Oh, and a bank or even two where the pretend economy meets the public. You will see weeds growing up in town. Go into the neighborhoods and observe houses and yards where people have given up. They are indoors waiting for their government check/deposit while watching The Price is Right or Jeopardy. Most of them will be obese with many being diabetics. Their offspring will be buried in a social media site perhaps fantasizing about shooting up the school they hate. “Drive” down the secondary roads and wonder if these paved routes will ever be paved over again? What happens when the word arrives that your social security deposit will be reduced by 20% initially and with a warning that more cuts are likely. Oh, and your Medicare will be more acutely means tested. The threshold for paying a larger premium will be lowered. That’s just the start.
Collapse in a sense is already upon us; maybe for at least 50% of us. Its just that for now the power is still on and energy is the ballgame. Everything else is secondary. Make fuel unavailable and watch the results.
Our diversity will not be a strength. We already hate each other. What we don’t do yet is burn down the other folks’ neighborhoods. If you are concerned about survival, I suggest you pay attention to demographics. If you are of the kumbaya persuasion, good luck with that. All that is needed is a significant price increase in gasoline. That is all it will take and the orcs will come alive and the joint will start hopping.
There is no remediation for any of this.
Trumps 2020 budget calls for extreme cuts to social services, one Trillion to Medicare and 50 billion to SS, Medicaid is going to be decimated also.
But not to worry, the military and the super wealthy will get increases so we will be OK.
What’s Breadline Bernie’s plan?
Free sh#t for everybody?
All loans forgiven?
That’s about it.
Brh
Maybe you could find out and get back to us?
The Republicans want to give everything away to the elite and the military and take everything away from the middle class, fuck them!
Lex talionis: malls killed mom&pop stores, and now Amazon has killed malls.
Just turned off the “Squad”. What a crock of crap!
I noticed very quickly that the whole thing was orchestrated to the max. The egos of these four children is unbelievable. They spent the entire episode name calling Trump. Worthless!
But there was the MSM, including Fox, glorifying these four extremely worthless people.
I like Pelosi’s description. They are just four people with no power.
This is the vanguard of the anarchist movement in the US. Communists rose during the Great Depression but were crushed by WW2 and Joe McCarthy after the war. We are in good times right now and yet people are still listening to these four and their mentor, Bernie.
A real measure of the public stupidity present now is the credibility given to these four really dumb young people. They should just simply be ignored.
I hear a lot of name calling but nobody has stated the actual policies and what they costs so a debate can be had.
Nobody has brought up Trumps middle class cuts, are you fine with his 2020 budget? Did you even read about them?
Debate, what debate have you heard in the last ten years. GOP blocked everything Obama tried to do, and the Dems are returning the favor. The Deep State is in control well.
I personally benefitted from the Tax cuts as did most middle class folks. If the 2020 budget is facing reality, so be it.
Just read up on 2020 budget. It is a shocker, it is addressing reality in the Feds financial situation. Trump is reneging on promises he made.
However, what do you want as an alternative? If you, like Bernie, just say that you want to keep spending the same or increase it, then the next time that the debt ceiling is addressed, just be quiet as you have no grounds to stand on.
If you, like Bernie, believe that taxing the economy is the answer, watch the growth rate fall back to Obama’s 1.7% rate from our current 3.5% rate. And the acceleration of corporations moving overseas.
You as a obvious liberal, want to treat everyone equally with everyone getting an equal piece of the pie. The continuing problem that happens though is that the changes made destroy the economy and nobody gets anything, equal or not.
That is why socialism fails in its pure form.
A long time ago, feudalism, a form of socialism, needed a kick in the butt to get economies growing and capitalism was born. It has been a battle ever since and capitalism has always won.
Same with GND. Government control will be a disaster.
The U.S. is like the Titanic, we already hit the iceberg but most people do not know it yet. After 20 years of lousy leadership we are almost out of options.
Bush built the coffin for the U.S. Obama made the lid and nailed it down and now Trump will lower it into the ground and throw dirt on it.
I have lots of ideas how the country could be better run and cutting spending and government programs are included. But to do requires sacrifice, unity, and intelligence.
We are far too fragmented to get any real changes accomplished, I do not see any light at the end of the tunnel.
Feudalism is obviously more aligned with capitalism and has nothing to do with socialism or you don’t know what private property is. You showed yourself to be old school when you were singing the growth tune. Now confabulating socialism with its opposite shows you to be nothing but a propagandist or an idiot.
Nothing to see here folks move along. Just a voice who likes things as they are, messed up without a future.
Hey, James, launching off your speculation about, “…intelligent responses to this quandary…”, did you ever hang out during those formative first half dozen or so years after the turn of the millennium over at the doomer discussion groups at Yahoo, especially Scott Meredith’s AlasBabylon?
Among some of the familiar [to some of us old doomers] doomer names, there was one Perry Arnett. Perry early during that period wisely predicted, or so I believe, that “It will be in no one’s best interest to factually report the reality of the [collapse] once it begins in earnest.”
I agreed then and I agree even more so now. Any semblance of realization of the complete hopelessness of the future for industrial human society and its immediacy among the masses would precipitate THE END – RIGHT NOW!
To my way of thinking, there are no “intelligent responses to this quandary” except possibly some individual personal responses.
But I could be wrong.
However, that you, given what I consider to be your depth and breadth of understanding of this issue, among a growing number of respected analysts, seem to be communicating the alarm with a voice an entire octave higher and a volume equally intensified, leads me…

The Universe is Energy.
All energy; only energy.
Not even time.
Privatization of Soviet property, Clinton’s economic miracle of the 90s and financial crash of 2008
And then there was a certain catastrophe not only economic, but also historical, cultural and possibly metaphysical. I honestly do not know what actually happened, but several obvious reasons for the catastrophe can be mentioned, not forgetting that these reasons cannot explain what happened.
1. First of all, George Bush and the group supporting him could not nominate a worthy candidate for the elections. Rather, such candidates were – Giuliani and Huckabee, but the circumstances of their failure are a completely different story. But it is very interesting that in this Bush’s failure a crucial role was played by a support of Senator McCain by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Rick Perry, the governors of California and Texas – the two largest and most influential states from electoral point of view. The further fate of these political figures showed that it was their big mistake.
2. The European Union, which has always disliked Bush, who defended the priority of the US national interests over the interests of NATO and the so-called global West, entered into an anti-Bush deal with the Clintonoids, which, apparently, was joined by Condoleezza Rice and several other Bush administration figures.
This was due to the fact that the European Union, contrary to popular belief, hates and fears Russia more than the US, and Bush’s policy led to $140 per barrel, with the result that Russia finally broke out of debt bondage and, very much has begun to form its own banking system, independent of the West.
Suffice it to say that by 2008 the national debt of the Russian Federation fell to $50 billion, and foreign exchange reserves rose to 750 billion dollars.
Neo-colonization of Russia hit a copper pan with a bang, and after a visit to Brussels in September 2006 of Prime Minister of Ukraine Yanukovich, Ukraine’s membership in NATO hit the same pan as well.
In general, the European Union had to start thinking not about the Energy Charter and human rights, but about responsibility for the results of its “civilizing” policies in the post-Soviet space and in the Balkans.
From such a perspective, one could start passionately kissing not only with Condoleezza Rice, but with Osama bin Laden and the Russian Nazis.
Actually, the European Union has nobody else to enter into an alliance with since they shit on everyone back in the 1990s, with their double morality, and, unlike the States, they did it surreptitiously.
3. Obviously, the leaked information about the approach of the Georgian war of 2008 gave rise to uncertainty about the end result of this adventure from a number of investors, who were significantly more realistic in their assessments than regular analysts and TV propagandists.
Professional investors knew very well that the real estate market was overheated, that the mortgage in the USA was financed by Japanese money, issued at 1-2% with the help of carry-trades, insured by FOREX options with a huge leverage.
This made these investments extremely sensitive to the results of political intrigues that seemed to have nothing to do with a mortgage.
In this situation, any destabilizing factor can lead to disastrous consequences due to the loss of confidence in financial and political institutions.
A simple psychological effect called “where it’s thin, there is torn” triggered – the general uncertainty in the political situation made investors withdraw money from the most risky, politically motivated investments.
Now, of course, it’s ridiculous to read economists ’explanations that the sub-prime mortgage lending was unnecessarily risky – this money simply had nowhere to go, and if they hadn’t been issued as mortgage loans to pretty much anybody in the early 2000s, the financial system would be destabilized with unpredictable consequences already in 2001-2003.
Does anyone in general remember what was happening at that time in Russia and in the rest of the world, because in addition to the Asian economic crisis, Clinton’s open support for Chechen rebels, the political crisis in the United States in 2000, the military crisis related to the Kursk nuclear submarine, the 911 attack, the second Chechen war, mass terrorist attacks in Moscow and the Caucasus, the Iraqi, Kurdish, Serbian, Macedonian and Transnistrian crises, the conflict with Georgia over Pankisi, the Gongadze case and a possible conflict between Russia and Ukraine, we could still have in addition hyper-stagflation in Europe and the United States and the disintegration of the global financial system.
What happened further is well known – the subprime crisis gave rise to a banking crisis in England, which was successfully stopped by decisive actions of the British government.
But someone seemed to deliberately splash gasoline into the fire, refusing to support Lehman Brothers Bank, as a result of which Bush’s achievements were thrown into the dustbin, and 08.08.08 war has begun.
The first global revolution began, part of which are the recent events in US. And this revolution has already led to a complete change of elites in a number of countries, leaving the socio-political structure of society in them unchanged.
This, incidentally, may not be for very long.
“But many are for sure totally unprepared for such work. So why have we been weakened to this point?” SSL
You are the best that has ever been here.
Well thank you for that compliment! I appreciate it :-).

Hilarious how Iger’s people used to be in control of Marxism and pretend to care about the poor, etc. It was all only ever just a power trip.
You know what I find fascinating about people like Abigail Disney is that if they wanted to they could actually cut a check to the US Treasury today. They don’t have to pass new laws for the uber rich to send in more money to the Treasury. They will accept donations. So wealthy people should simply shut up and start paying up period. Otherwise they are being preachy and annoying IMO.
I’ve read about the advances in nuclear power, and I think so far that nuclear power offers the most viable option. But it’s still built upon a foundation of fossil fuels. Many people literally think that electricity comes from an electricity socket in the wall. That’s the level of stupidity about most things generally….

I wonder how dumb the Americans are? I read that the typical American watches 7 hours of TV a day.
The politicians seem to try to exploit the stupidity, particularly the lack of a Historical perspective, with the Race Baiting….
Recently, Beto was trying to pull a social media stunt of trying to sell the idea that the US operates WWII Na…zi death camps for kids on the US border.
In a recent Tweet, Beto declares that after all these decades that he’s suddenly learned that he’s descended from slave owners and he’s overcome with morose and anguish and that he’s been a very Bad Boy.
This may be Beto’s next big social media gimmick? I guess that the WWII N..a..zi death camps on the border for kids shtick didn’t pan out? Beto’s going to try to get media attention by declaring himself a descendant of white slave owners and then calling for Reparations to assuage his guilt. Beto will start crying and flagellating himself on stage in his black leather underwear.
One Black bloke declares on Beto’s Twitter account that “all white people are descendants of slave owners.”
Mine weren’t….. I recall reading that only a small percentage of the population, a large plantation aristocracy in the South owned slaves….
“I recall reading that only a small percentage of the population, a large plantation aristocracy in the South owned slaves….” — Pucker
I have read the same, can’t say where, but that only the rich landowners could afford to buy and maintain slaves. Slaves they bought from traders who bought them from the black Africans that raided villages rounding up the best ‘bucks’ to sell to those traders.
For shame.
Forgot the after the quote. For shame.
Damn! It didn’t print “” after “the”! Shame Shame!
Oh fuck it!
“…only the rich landowners could afford to buy and maintain slaves.”
I think that a more realistic way to express it is that, in 19th century America, slavery only made economic sense in growing certain agrarian commodities (cotton, sugar, tobacco). These were part of a Western “growth” economy, not subsistence. Everybody could not crowd into those niches. On top of that, all businesses, especially those rooted in competition, select for a certain amount of ruthlessness.
Wage labor was cheaper than slavery when population was growing and labor in excess, but stoop labor is something that wage earners will not do if they have any other choice. “Against The Grain” a book by James Scott is an excellent reference on this matter (there are also good talks by Scott on Youtube).
Civilization, from the start, has depended on coerced labor regardless of political slant. That is an ugly reality that all “good thinking” people deny.

Do a remake of the TV series “Roots” about Barack Hussein Obama’s family lineage in which he recounts both his Irish Mom’s slave owning lineage in the US and his vicious Afro – Arab slave owning and slave trading lineage in East Africa. The last scene would show Obama’s daughter at Harvard dating that British Pussy who is a member of the “Royal Family”.
(CNN)Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday compared himself to former President Barack Obama by noting they both oppose reparations and both he and the nation’s first African-American president are descendants of slave holders.
“You know, once again I find myself in the same position as President Obama, we both oppose reparations, and both are the descendants of slave holders,” McConnell said, after he was asked if a report from NBC that his relatives were slave holders changed his views about reparations.
Ask some Millennial bloke how many hours of porn does he watch everyday?
Millennials must watch a lot of porn?
I’m blessed that I never watched porn. In fact, I wouldn’t even know where to find it on the Internet, nor would I have the inclination to look for it. If a bloke is masturbating to Internet porn, then quite frankly he may be too far gone?
On the one hand, one wants to empathize and to be kind and helpful. But on the other hand, to be honest, a bloke who spends his time whacking off to Internet porn may want think about whether his life is worth living?

What really bothers me is that kids from about 12 up now have smartphones, and through those things they have access to video-material that just destroys their innocence forever if they view it. I don’t like those smartphones. I never have.
Many countries in Europe have laws against kids under 18 having a phone because of the radiation. I think cell phones are harmful to society in general. My goal in life is to never receive or send a text message.
Not to mention the Gay Pride Parades and the obscene activity on display. Parents actually bring their kids to these things. Mind blowing.
Typing with one hand doesn’t appear to affect your spelling or punctuation. Well done.
Q does not think so.
That’s funny.
They ban people like Alex Jones from the Internet, but then leave gobs of raunchy porn on the Internet for kids to watch….
They’re obviously insane….
Pete Buttigieg’s “Husband”, Chasten Buttigieg, known as “Chaz” thinks that he’s helping people by exhorting people to remind someone everyday of their “Awesomeness”.
And in the same breath he’ll use some bizarre term such as “Chefs Kiss”. I had to look up that term in the Urban Dictionary. It’s filthy.
Chaz thinks that he’s helping Society by being both Shallow and Filthy.
They’re obviously insane….
Dude, you’re talking about the future First Lady.
Or is it the First Dude?
Too bad it wasn’t Chaz Bono – a real f to m tranny. A real Man!
Well Jim, on top of all that good news, 140,000 poverty stricken 3rd worlders are crossing the border each month, none of whom know how to speak english. That ought to help the situation out.

Dangerous territory you tread here.
It is talked about on this blog a lot about the inevitability of populations dying when the Long Emergency hits.
These people at the border are the start. If they did not have the heart and someone else’s funding (another subject) to attempt to make it to America, they and their kin will be starting the death cycle we talk about. Famine and disease are the first two horses, War is coming soon.
It really is up to us as a nation to decide how to stop the flow. Candy ass Dems just want to let them in. It just puts off the inevitable. Better to stop them at home to die or let them in here to spread the inevitable here?
This is global, whole areas are fixin’ to fall off a cliff. Are we the savior for the world, or our own executioner?. 2020 will tell.
“Let them in”.

In your name, brh, Deetrump just sent donations to each member of the Squad… and to Bernie. Thanks, brh, for the inspiration!

I am reminded of Woody Allen’s quip when told that masturbation would lead to blindness.
He would only do it until he needed glasses.
As I referenced in a comment above the USA (most of us) heartily rejected the idea of protecting itself long ago, but we (some of us) are now trying to stop after the damage has been done – too late.

Speaking of ‘Peak Oil’, was out on the Sound today on friend’s boat fishing for Striper Bass. Why is boat fuel at the marina, which is just high test gasoline, twice as much as fuel for your car at the local gas station? Nevertheless, the captains were happily filling their boats with fuel, primary and reserve tanks topped off. $6 per gallon, nobody was complaining. I didn’t see any cash change hands, just receipts signed. The boats at the marina were all shapes and sizes, from cabin cruisers to skiffs. This boating life seems to be a pleasant one.

People pay for what they see as a necessity, whatever the cost.
I see theres a new film w a Black Female fighter pilot.
Marine fuel sells in lower volumes and, at a dock, has a significantly higher facility cost. There is also less competition.
Where I live in LA (Lower Alabama) there is a differential of about $1 per gallon at roadside gas stations that have “marine fuel” (no ethanol, not high test, most outboard motors run on 87 octane) and another 50 cents at pumps at docks.
Ethanol is bad because it absorbs moisture which is really abundant in marine environments and particularly bad in engines that are only intermittently used.
Good info there Epicure.
Fuel for boats not blended with ethanol but otherwise just regular grade gasoline.
I noticed some of the boats in the marina were inboards, with big 427 cu. in. GM engines powering them up.
In addition, a few big fishing boats with diesel engines.
Not a lot of sailboats, but even the sailboats had small outboard engines bolted on.
Messing around on boats in the summer is a lot of fun, hope I get invited more often.

On his Twitter account, Beto obviously has a lot of fake shills who post comments about how “sincere” and “for real” Beto is, and that Beto is “the Real Deal”.
Beto must have a huge credibility problem with people generally? Of course, what’s there not to believe?: Beto is a skate boarding third rate punk rock singer….

A strong indicator and Red Flag of the existence of a Slavery System is the production “Quota”. It is ironic that due to the dogma of Political Correctness that the universities have hiring and production quotas of people based upon their racial, gender, sexual characteristics. They’re obviously insane….
“Hostage-taking set the Congo apart from most other forced-labor regimes. But in other ways it resembled them. As would be true decades later of the Soviet gulag, another slave labor system for harvesting raw materials, the Congo operated by quotas. In Siberia the quotas concerned cubic meters of timber cut or tons of gold ore mined by prisoners each day; in the Congo the quota was for kilos of rubber. In the A.B.I.R. concession company’s rich territory just below the Congo River’s great half-circle bend, for example, the normal quota assigned to each village was three to four kilos of dried rubber per adult male per fortnight—which essentially meant full-time labor for those men. Elsewhere, quotas were higher and might be raised as time went on. An official in the Mongala River basin in the far north, controlled by another concession company, the Société Anversoise du Commerce au Congo, estimated that to fill their quota, rubber gatherers had to spend twenty-four days a month in the forest, where they built crude cages to sleep in for protection—not always successful—against leopards.”

A “Quota” is basically a noose placed around the neck of the victim, right?
Vermont hires a State Diversity Czar and prepares to commit suicide. 94% White and the safest state in the Nation. Absolutely intolerable in other words. This is a microcosm of the White’s Man spiritual sickness.

There aren’t alot of public housing projects in Vermont cities.
So before bringing, say, 500,000 blacks from NYC or Latin American refugees into the state a massive effort would have to be undertaken to build projects, most likely in the People’s Republic of Burlington (Breadline Bernie’s town) and Monpelier, the Capitol.
I could see it happening. The article you cited mentions the cold winters in Vermont, but Somali tribesman have been relocated to Maine and Minnesota. The cold doesn’t matter when natgas and home heating oil is given out free.
Brh
3 colleges have recently closed in Vermont and sit empty. Tens of thousands of ‘migrants’ could be packed in easy. I’m surprised nobody has thought of it yet.
Brh
Holy cow, BRH.
What an idea. Think of it, make these closed campuses into assimilation centers, educate these folks into being Americans, teach them capitalistic ideals, Constitutional civics, English to the functional level, and job placement services. They are already set up as educational centers, so use them to do good things.
Oh yeah, I forgot. The entire Deep State does not give one damn about these people, and the main agenda of the Progressive Left is the destruction of the Constitution, not the integration of new immigrants.
The enemy of the people of this country is its government.
Trump is not a racist re: the Squad, he is an identifier of the enemy.
JHK, you live in the area. Is it feasible to spend some Fed dollars on a good project?
Don’t get me wrong JAZ, these tent cities in defunct universities would not be a permanent home for esteemed migrants, our honored guests. Just a place to sign up for free medical care, register to vote, get a drivers license, free tuition at State U and so on. The installations are permanent, but migrants themselves would stay only long enough to procure said services before being moved into luxury hotels in Boston, with concierge and room service, and pool privileges. Anything less and we would not be “living our values”.
Brh
My (your) proposal was an attempt to make something constructive out of your observation of the campuses. A huge problem with immigration is that these folks have no purpose here. They serve no purpose. The stupid Left wants them here as votes, period. So they get where they are going and join enclaves of fellow illegals. At this point, the USA has lost any semblance of goodness from them being here. Just like black kids in Chicago, they have no future, so they make one up, usually destructive.
And they do not give one s**t about the United States as they think of our collective as a police force trying to get them out of here. That is why Mexican Flags show up in Colorado. Not a surprise.
When these folks get here, we need to either just send them home or attempt to turn them into Americans, which is very different from what they are coming in.
Immigrant education is the key to keeping America tha bastion of liberty it has been.
The Dems will fight this tooth and nail, as they want a bunch of dumb ass immigrants who will just push the Dem button in the voting booth. The Ult Left want America destroyed, so they want no part of assimilation.
Hey, there are supposedly 11 million and probably lots more illegals here and they comprise a good sized chunk of our economy. Maybe we need to get these people assimilated as Americans. Education!
If we can get the Dems out of the way.
JAZ,
I think you’re being a bit optimistic.
These locusts are here at the behest of lefties to devour us.
That’s all.
Brh
No, I think it is what real Americans need to do to kick the s**t out of the anarchists.
You are right, they are Leftist locusts.
Whose job is it to turn them into Americans? The Left is not interested.
Americans seem to have this insane Historical view of slavery that includes such delusions as:
*White People kidnapped innocent black people in Africa;
*When black people were kidnapped, Africa was some big Paradise and Utopia for black people a la Wakanda in the dreadful tot..tal..itarian propaganda comic book movie, “Black Panther”.
*The horrible White People were all Southerners ( Confederates).
NOT!!!!!!
The Reality is that at the time of European conquest and colonization of the Americas, the A-Rabs had already been doing an extensive business of slave trading in East Africa (now Kenya and Tanzania), and Africa was being stripped of its population which was being rounded up and exported as slaves. The Afro-Arabs (like Barak Hussein Obama’s family) would run slaving caravans out of Zanzibar into the interior of Africa to grab black people to then sell to Arab countries as laborers, concubines, and child soldiers. The Europeans plugged into this existing slaving commercial infrastructure, which the whites adopted wholesale including chain gangs, whippings, cutting off hands, arms, feet, etc. But here, I suspect that the Portuguese had to put their engineers to work on designing slave ships for the trans-Atlantic voyage, which was probably not something taught to the Europeans by the Afro-Arabs, like the Obama’s?
Hampshire College in Amherst — aka known as the Hippie College, no grades and the only discernable dicipline is ‘Social Justice — is going toes up too. Not many buildings but much land, enough to pitch tents and host 75,000 – 100,000 ‘migrants’. One of Hampshire’s last official acts was to take its almost non existant endowment and build a seperate dorm for ‘People of Color’, demanded by upper middle class white students, even tho there were hardly any ‘People of Color’ enrolled in the school.
Triggly Puff was a Hampshire College undergrad, keeping her fed may have been one of the factors in the school going bankrupt. Who ever is paying that grocery bill now must have deep pockets.
Overheard last night in a used bookstore I stopped at in Niantic on my way back from fishing trip:

Color World Projects in Art and the Great Manipulator of Giordano Bruno
As Ioan Petru Culianu showed, Giordano Bruno formulated the main provisions of the “science” about the Great Manipulator – a magician who uses a person’s sex life to manipulate large masses, that is, a power that Media is endlessly talking about.
The power which has nothing to do with Authority, about which the Holy Scripture speaks and which cannot be but from God.
So, if you look at the work of Giordano Bruno from a pragmatic point of view, he describes a certain technology of power, or rather, witchcraft, which does not make it less effective, and modern experts use this technology in full, which we are all witness to.
But the statue of David by Michelangelo has nothing to do with this technology, as well as Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus”.
http://scihi.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/David_von_Michelangelo3.jpg
https://d2jv9003bew7ag.cloudfront.net/uploads/Sandro-Botticelli-Birth-of-Venus.jpg
“The Birth of Venus” Botticelli is the artistic expression of the White World Project, and Michelangelo’s David of the Red.
While Giordano Bruno was the main ideologue of the Black World Project, and seven paintings by Titian, which he wrote for Philip II illustrating Ovid’s Metamorphoses, became the artistic expression of the Black World Project.
https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/about-us/press-and-media/press-releases/titian-love-desire-death
And as the World Projects, which were finally articulated in England during the War of the Roses in 1453-1480, penetrated medieval Europe, changing everything around them, including the brilliant artists and the art that they created, is the main subject of the Political History of the Arts of that time which became the birth of the New World, which is called the Renaissance.
And this struggle of the 16th century is now more than topical, which causes an increased interest of the public, in particular in the ballet, illustrating 7 of the above-mentioned paintings by Titian (this is exactly the ballet illustrates the paintings, and not vice versa).
https://www.buro247.ru/culture/theatre/9323.html
And that fragment of the painting “Diana and Actaeon” that they chose for the playbill of their performance, in my opinion, perfectly shows the reasons for this, and who Teresa May presented in Osaka when she tried to negotiate something with Putin. By the way, I already wrote about this, in connection with the performance of the Madonna in Israel.
https://www.buro247.ru/local/images/buro/photo_5_jpg_1342379392.jpg
But undoubtedly the most important painting of this series of 7 paintings, which Titian wrote at the request of Philip II of Spain, is “Abduction of Europe” and I want to write about it in a little more detail, since it is directly connected with the Gnostic scandals, which lately constantly shake the spiritual heart of Russia, which some ignoramuses advertise as “Orthodox Vatican”.
Titian, ‘Rape of Europa’
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/41/Tizian_085.jpg
The most important sacrament of Christianity is the Incarnation of God, but it is only a sacrament if the very invisible and unknowable G-d of Moses that was seen on Mount Sinai as a burning bush is embodied in man.
And in paganism there is no mystery in the incarnation of God – if you are a god, turn into a bull, kidnap Europe, and incarnate with her until you get bored.
And this picture of Titian is in fact a terrible blasphemy and anti-Christianity, showing what causes the rupture of the link between the Old and New Testaments, and why Christ himself said about the Gnostics-Nicolaitans
For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. Jeremiah 8:11
The right and left are not monolithic blocs of people. Neither stereotypucal “side” seems to grok what is needed to adapt to the future we have created for ourselves. I’m trying to map out one potential new way. I believe http://www.reddit.com/r/GreenNationalism, is one plausible response. Be, it means a belief that the US should work towards sustainable self sufficiency using resources within our own borders. It adopts some left causes like acknowledgement of global warming (and the very urgent need to address it) and support for abortion rights, and some right issues like reduced immigration/strong border and lapsed visa enforcement and antiglobalization. Toss in support for a balanced budget, which neither major party acts like they believe in, and the rigid dichotomy most people inhabit seems a little goofy to me. Hoping to have a discussion over at that subreddit. The place is still young, so it’s a chance to help build the foundation of a movement.
What is more dangerous, the Global Warming or Global Nuclear War which Democrats are striving towards?
Of course they do not talk about it, because they want to make it a surprise.
Climate change (for now) since that is happening right now and will only get worse if we do nothing. Nuclear war, or a nuclear EMP attack, are definitely real and serious threats. This is the first I’ve heard of Democrats conspiring to start the fireworks though.
Really?
How much can the Dems hammer Russia, blaming them for throwing the election, before Russia gets a little nervous and begins dusting off their 5000 nuclear warheads?
Brh
The Dems aren’t in power right now and probably won’t be until at least 2024, if they don’t dissolve from constant infighting. I’ll worry about nuclear Armageddon then. In the meantime we really need to figure out what to about the twin problems of fossil fuel eroei depletion and climate change. In fact, if you’re worried about nuclear war, climate change could easily lead to political instability through things like drought, famine, mass migrations etc.
Quite so, mdl17576. One of the first government departments to start taking a serious interest in climate change – many years ago – was the Pentagon, for security reasons.
Although since the advent of G3 the Pentagon has been ‘encouraged’ to take the view that you can deal with existential problems with a nifty application of Tippex. Figuratively speaking.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/pentagon-climate-change-obama-trump-epa-global-warming-report-a8345956.html
The Dems were idiots to push the Russia-gate bullshit but it is the U.S. military that is doing all the stuff to make a nuclear war possible.
I think that Barak Hussein Obama himself should not be held responsible for the acts of his Afro-Arab ancestors. However, I think that Obama’s Afro- Arab ancestry is something that the Americans should look into as it is an important historical fact given the history of slavery in the Americas and in Africa and the current debate over who is culpable for slavery and who is innocent. Obama is held out as some kind of historical triumph over slavery, whereas the reality is that his Afro -Arab ancestors created the infrastructure for slavery, both in Africa directly and later in the New World by teaching the Europeans the techniques and infrastructure of slavery. As Bill Cosby once said: “If you look at History, it will give you a black Eye.” It’s rather horrifying, and unfortunately…. I wonder how people would react if on TV Obama came clean and said: “My ethnic group of Afro Arab ancestors in Kenya were likely involved in the ivory and slave trade since that was the historic economic niche of Afro -Arabs in Kenya. But I am not culpable since I was not personally involved and I cannot be held responsible for the sins of my ancestors.” I wonder how the Americans would respond? They’d probably freak out….
Well, well. It looks like there is some movement on the Seth Rich story:
Seems a lawsuit has been filed. Ellen Rattner, the wife of Michaeal Rattner (deceased), a former Assange attorney, is alleged to have spoken directly to Assange in the Ecuadorean Embassy.
Apparently, Assange confirmed that Rich was the leaker.
The circumastantial evidence has always pointed to this, but if the info. in this suit is true, look out! Not that it would surprise me. The Dem/Uniparty corruption is off the charts.

If this is not “virtue signalling” the term has no meaning.
It’s not virtue signaling. It’s an outright agenda to destroy the nuclear family which recently was also labeled as an instrument of White Supremacy.

Malthuss,
I currently own an old refrigerator made in the mid 50’s…still runs, freezes and shuts off. I converted it into a beer tapper.
They dont make em like that anymore.
Trump has gone too far.
Not as far as the freshman House members National Socialists – Nazis – has gone.
Well, may be Janos, Malthus and Tate in their anti-Semitism can line up to them.
He told the Truth about the Mod Squad – they are not spiritual Americans and the Letter of the Law cannot save us. In fact, it killeth.
Nope! He hasn’t even begun to go “too far”.
The “re-organization” as JHK puts it, has been underway for some time, most visibly in the interior, with economic and social collapse, wide-spread opioid addiction and a large pile of yearly dead from same, a reduction of life expectancy from not only drug use but other causes as well, called “diseases of despair” by some. And, not only that, but a proliferation of armed militias since the economic crisis ten years ago.
But this”re-organization” is also visible in coastal cities, these bastions of – cough – progressives, but which also happen to be home to armies of homeless. These places are purportedly wealthy places which “educated” and “skilled” people flock to (the Creative Class) but despite this burgeoning “talent” they somehow can’t arrange their affairs so that lower income people can find affordable accommodation, nor arrange for the mentally sick to find help. The result? A multitude of people out-of-doors or in shelters.
If one important element of re-organization is the de-facto ethnic partition between North and South, with conflict deliberately fanned by Washington politicians, the other is the de-facto partition between Caucasian and Black with people of Asian descent, be they South or East Asian, going to the Caucasian side of the divide.
Never mind that race-hustling politicians intentionally fan the flames here too, a lot of this is Blacks deciding they’d rather self-segregate on multiple levels, linguistically, economically and culturally. Act “White”? No thanks. Self-defeating? You bet.
The split between North and South has at least got a historic boundary, the Mason-Dixon Line, so that people allying themselves with one side or the other have got a pretty good idea which state to settle in. What about racially? Most of the country’s demographic weight is Caucasian, with Hispanics becoming English-dominant and more and more self-identifying as Caucasian, and the off-spring of Asian-Caucasian unions doing the same. How this shakes out for Black people is yet to be seen but they are not in a position of strength, neither in terms of numbers, nor in terms of money. Theirs is a perilous and precarious position to be in. I don’t know what there is to be done for them. You can’t force people to associate with one another. If they don’t want to, they don’t want to.
The irresponsibility of the so-called “enlightened” is mind-boggling. Not only irresponsible but also idiotic. I guess that for all their “education” they never realized that elite displacement is one of the elements of “re-organization”. How many times have we seen it? Yet such is their arrogance that they can’t see it happening to themselves.
They say that those whom the Gods would destroy they first make proud. I won’t go so far as to claim there’s divinities pulling the strings in our fold of the cosmos, but the proud routinely over-estimate themselves. You see it happening here and now. And they’re SO proud.
Yet such mixtures aren’t White, whatever they think. You’re still flying the blood rag of the unreality of race. To the extent people buy it, to that extent the West will continue to decline.
You can force people to associate with each other. Those who force look the other way as Whites are savaged by the inferiors who were brought into their midst. And the Elite behind such demented policies – who unlike you know that Race is far closer to being everything than nothing – rub their hands together in glee at our agony.
You accurately describe the essence of the Great American Experiment, can diverse ethnicity exist in a society where the Rule of Law is paramount.
What happens when the Rule of Law is so corrupted it does not matter?
I think we are going to find out.
I would love to know who all of these Hispanics and Asians who are now self-identifying as White are. V, White is the new Nigger. When will you fully understand and accept this? It doesn’t matter if you are a Southerner or Northerner. If you are White you are bad. That is the theme of the day. Asians and Hispanics very clearly have different political views and voting patterns than typical American Whites on the whole. On balance, Asians and Hispanics will favor an America that is run more or less like a Latin-American country. Don’t expect them to be supportive of gun rights and other traditionally American norms. And they do support the abolition of Whiteness. America is not America if it is not White. Period, end of story.
I know a fair number of Asians and I disagree that they want a Latin American USA. They’re nothing if not practical.
And a fair number of them marry Whites. According to Pew Research, 46% of married US born Asians have a spouse of different race or ethnicity. That pretty much accords with what I see with my own eyes with a lot of them marrying Whites. The percentage for US born Hispanics is lower at about 39% but still that’s a pretty high percentage.
It’s not a stretch to imagine kids of these unions self-identifying as White if they have a White parent and they themselves are light-skinned. Especially Hispanics who’ve got a fair bit of Spanish ancestry.
If you’re White you’re bad. Yes, but political trends come and go. A lot of the idiots trying to incite racial conflict are themselves White, taking adversarial stances against Whites. Maybe they think nobody will notice their race. If such a conflict takes hold, they’re going to get swept up in it and they’ll find out the hard way that they’re not bullet-proof.
But at ground-level Asians and Hispanics marry Whites. This is the best way to avert conflict as you tend to not kill your own kin. In any case, attraction is attraction and it’s pretty tough to keep people apart if they’re determined otherwise.
Thank you for finally coming right out with it V. “But at ground-level Asians and Hispanics marry Whites. This is the best way to avert conflict as you tend to not kill your own kin.”
Now I totally understand what you are getting at. But basically you are saying that Whites should not be able to secure a White homeland. Interesting given that other races actually have multiple homelands in which they are comfortable majorities. No, the only solution for Whites is to intermarry and dilute the Race. Have you ever considered how many Hispanics and Asians are marrying native Whites for green cards? Does your philosophy hold true for China? Shouldn’t Whites be given full access to China and the Chinese must be given intermarriage as the only option to avoid any conflict? And then we aren’t even talking about that fact that maybe so much intermarriage is occurring because it is being absolutely propagated onto the population from cradle to grave through every single form of media and education venue available. Did you realize young Whites are being taught that coupling with Whites and starting a White family is nothing more than White Supremacy? In other words, if you want to be a good human being you have to let your White DNA die.
American Whites are a mixed people in a certain sense. We are not divided into a hundred White ethnicities as in Europe. English & Germans & Irish & other NW Europeans freely mixed during the early Republic, & even with small additions of Blacks & Amerindians. Then Poles & Jews & Italians & Sicilians & Eastern & Southeastern Europeans & Christians from the Levant came & after a long immigration hiatus during the mid-twentieth century, many or most of these successfully assimilated into the mainstream American culture.
Many hispanics & Asians have also assimilated. But a large unassimilated Black population remained. Jews too assimilated much less, in keeping with their core religious beliefs
For a long time, we could maintain the facade of the “proposition” nation, of democratic ideals, the rule of law, the Constitution, a shared history & English language & Christian religion to define ourselves without referring to race. But behind all these cohesive symbols there has always been a White majority culture. It wasn’t totally a fiction, this “proposition” nation, but the fact is these ideals appealed most strongly to the White heritage population so an appeal explicitly to race wasn’t necessary to hold it together.
But now things are different. Traditional American culture & its values & its heritage core population of White Americans are being attacked openly & viciously by increasing floods of Black & Brown immigrants from all over the world & their advocates. American Whites are threatened with losing their majority status. In fact, it’s already a foregone conclusion within the next few decades if birthrates are any indication. These foreign imports & their enablers cite an amorphous “White Privilege” as their rationale to destroy our way of life (& perhaps many of us with it.)
That more & more American Whites are beginning to see themselves as under attack should come as no surprise. That more & more American Whites are beginning to stand in opposition to this onslaught should come as no surprise. That more & more native-born Americans are beginning to identify as “White” however shaky their claim (ref: George Zimmerman) should come as no surprise either. Battle lines are being drawn as we see that even the idea of having national borders comes under attack. We understand quite clearly that it will mean the submersion of our traditional American culture if this happens.
This is the new National Populism & it is identity-based because that’s the way “they” wanted it to be. By “they” I mean these Others, they who could not or would not accept their place in traditional American White culture, who could not or would not accept its values & strove to subvert it & corrupt it at every opportunity.
Yes, this is vintage Volodya. Whites are always in the way or a problem. If they just let themselves die then the problem is solved. But for who? Not for Whites. But for his people the *ews.

Yesterday on the bus I saw Antifa Nerds in some kind of black uniforms, complete with fighting gloves and stomping boots. Role play? Don’t know. These ones were big and manly enough to be able to beat someone to death.
They were talking to a tranny who was one of them. The tranny sported a pink stun gun on ‘er hip. The conversation was fascinating, almost incomprehensible. They have their own culture of sorts. I’m reminded of the Dr Who episode where the mutants declared all normies must die as that was the Law.
All revolutions start small, I think you witnessed an army starting up.
I am glad they are in the open. The counter-revolution is not and will not be. Coyotes always wait.
How coy they are!
what shitty were you in?
Do you not recognize the first shots in the suddenly warmer war in DC. Trump has got the Dems in a pickle. By identifying the Squad for what they really are, anarchists, he has put Pelosi in the position of making the Democratic Party the enemy of the Constitutional America.
Anarchists, folks who hate the government, no matter who it is. And will use violence to achieve their ends.
Want to know who is really behind it all. Find out who is financing the Squad, and Antifa and cut off the funds. Same with the funding of the MSM which has lost its credibility.
This is ideological war, and the first real shots have now been fired.
What will start shooting? A Trump victory in 2020? A Dem victory in 2020?
Or will the country just politically fall apart?
God I just loved when Trump told the Brownies to go back where they came from. That was the highlight of my day yesterday. There is nothing wrong with criticizing society for the sake of attempting to improve society but the Brownies actually hate America. The truth is that they hate Whites and thus hate America as founded. They want a new Brown, third-world style America where they are the new aristocrats and Whites are the field Niggers. That would represent the ultimate reparations and payback they are really seeking.
Exactly!
What do we do with the Whites that are we encouraging this Browning of America. Do they actually think they will be in charge? Look at South Africa! The Browns cannot win control without White acquiescence. Kinda lets you know who the real enemy is, doesn’t it.
I wonder about the mental state of this group. Also, who is running the show with them. Finca says HRC, he may be right. I think she is just a soldier of a much larger group, globally.
The book I am reading makes a statement that after the eventual global economic crisis that is coming, the US will emerge in better shape than the rest of the world because of the factors that put us here in the first place. I think Estulin would agree.
I think the rest of the world hates this and are trying to undermine the US from within, the only way it can be done. It is organized, it is massive and currently it has been winning.
I hope you are right John but you are correct that the race traitor Whites have the upper hand right now. I don’t see how they are removed from power in a peaceful manner at this point. They are preparing for all eventualities and even setting up foreign escapes in places like New Zealand. They don’t really have any loyalties beyond their own clans and money and wealth generally. They intend to use the Brown hordes as their foot soldiers in taking down their opposition. They are preparing for confrontation right in front of our eyes.

I repeatedly wrote in 2016 on the eve of the elections that the so-called radical socialists, associating themselves with Hillary Clinton, are in fact national socialists, leading their lineage from the Jerusalem mufti, among whose students was Adolf Hitler.
The Pressley squad member doesn’t realize that to preside [ president ] is the same as to occupy the office. She won’t call him President.
George Washington is among those who say “No King but Jesus!”. He would NOT be called king.
Just think a minute about it: if Hillary Clinton will not be stopped by William Barr and John Durham and nominate herself as the Democratic candidate for the President of the United States, ALL this radical socialists – Reps. Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – will immediately endorse her.
In the event that this happens, that is, radical socialists will come to power in America – Russian generals will call on both their leadership and the top military leaders of some other countries for a universal one-time preemptive attack on the United States.
Otherwise, the radical socialists, having received power, will immediately do the same with Russia.
Serious “Leak” from Joint Chief Meeting Between US and Russia in Austria
05 MARCH 2019
An unusual and very serious “leak” of information has taken place after a meeting in Austria between the top Generals of the US and Russia.
According to Joint Staff Spokesman Col. Patrick S. Ryder, the “official readout” of the meeting is as follows:
“Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. met with Chief of the Russian General Staff Gen. Valery Gerasimov today in Austria.
The two military leaders discussed the deconfliction of Coalition and Russian operations in Syria, and exchanged views on the state of U.S.-Russia military relations and the current international security situation in Europe and other key topics. In addition, they also discussed efforts to improve operational safety and strategic stability between the U.S. and Russian militaries.
However, after the meeting, sources in a position to know say the discussions mentioned above were NOT the only issues talked about.
According to the sources, the Russia military expressed grave concern to the US Generals about what Russia sees as the greatest existential threat to Russia: if radical socialists in the United States take power in the upcoming elections.
If that should happen, the Russian Generals told the US they would immediately call for an all-out nuclear attack on America before these socialists do the same to Russia!
https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/serious-leak-from-joint-chief-meeting-between-us-and-russia-in-austria
Aha, it is about time someone realizes this. Putin threw the bastards out of Russia a couple of years ago. I sincerely hope that Trump does the same. I doubt nuclear war, but a decline in relations definitely.
Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.
8 USC 1182(f)
It’s no more complicated than that in essence. But we are so far gone that the application and implementation would be momentous, necessitating Martial Law and not merely a National Emergency. When the Mobs begin to riot, read this over the loudspeakers a couple of time and order them to disperse. When they don’t, (and they won’t) wade in with the shields and truncheons. When the Judges and State Attorneys riot, read them this but only Once – after all, they already know. Then arrest them. Commandeer public broadcasting and give the information that needs to be given. Let President Tucker Carlson give a speech or two about this and then keep replaying it. Let him give weekly updates to reassure the People, perhaps next to a fireplace while in a cardigan. He better get a dog too. Trump never got one – and that shows a character flaw – one of many.
Then begin the massive deportations. Warn Mexico that any resistance will be an act of War. Warn Russia and China not to get froggy. Warn Israel that they are own their own since they overwhelmingly supported the destruction of White America. Watch for all kinds of treasonous behavior, not only on the Left but the so called, miscalled Corporate and Zionist Right.
President Tucker Carlson??
Looks like Janos is calling for a Night of the Long Knives.

Sounds wonderful to me!
Yes, I know.
Not because of what you are thinking but because it would mean the salvation of America. Is there even an America if borders and citizenship have absolutely no meaning? You seem to think everything is going to change with a system of non-change in place. Or that is what you at least or suggesting.

How bad was the storm?
Catastrophic?
Or just a summer rain?
We saw some pics of flooding.
Brh
It wasn’t too bad here where I live Brh. Between last Thursday to yesterday morning we had a little over 17 inches of rain. But because it came across a few days it wasn’t a big problem. Flooding was an issue though in scattered areas. The highest wind gust we got was about 60 mph. So it was sort of like a long severe thunderstorm but we have had much worse. Thank God the predictions of Biblical flooding didn’t come true. If it did I would probably be corresponding with you from a houseboat ;-).
No, we’re stuck with Trump for now. We’re calling on Tuck to run in 2024, perhaps with Kris Kobach. Anne Coulter must be in the Administration as well. Ditto Judges Jeanine and Napolitano as non-White Italians. Michelle Malkin isn’t White either. We have non-White allies, but Whites must be in charge basically.
I am so thankful to God that many Whites in my state are still in touch with their basic tribal instincts. To all third worlders who want to constantly condemn and criticize America and Whites – go back to your sewage holes and take your brethren with you. We will even be charitable and pay for your one way trip to hell – happily and with super big smiles!

Rashida Tlaib, Janos, Ayanna Pressley, Tate, Ilhan Omar, SoftStarLight and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are two sides of the same coin – National Socialism.
America is being set up.
How dare you put Janos, Tate and me in with them Ivan! Sorry for you, no matter how mad I get about things and how radical I can get I still support the original American Constitutional Republic. Socialism is built in whether people want to admit that or not. A nationally oriented and focused socialism overlaid on the republican form of government would be much better than the corporate oligarchy authoritarianism we have now. Then corporations and individuals couldn’t constantly undercut the national interests and borders as is the case today.
nationally oriented and focused socialism
You don’t know what the hell you are talking about.
Your “nationally oriented” socialism already has a name – Nazism.
It is a combination of social policies of your so called “socialists” with the foreign policy of Hillary Clinton, which, incidentally, is being accepted by ALL OF THEM – even including Bernie Sanders, who now blames Russia for revealing to America that he was cheated during the primaries.
I wasn’t going to comment this week, but here you’ve mentioned my name twice, once to call me an anti-Semite & now a Nazi.
At least I’m not on the payroll of the flying monkey master, hasbara troll.
I mean of course, Hillary.
I wear the “anti-semite” label with pride these days. It’s the standard slur employed by the Zionists. They’ve been hiding behind it for so long that it’s rapidly losing its emotional impact.
I don’t mind being called an anti-Semite, but being called a Nazi… I don’t mind being called a Nazi either, LOL, especially from this verbal run-off contamination source. As for being slurred by association with that cadre of anti-American congress-critteresses, nobody will take it seriously.
Italian police raid of neo-fascist militants finds air-to-air missile
Back from fighting in Donbass, group hoped to sell Qatari missile to “foreign government.”
https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2019/07/italian-police-raid-of-neo-fascist-militants-finds-air-to-air-missile/
“A neo-Nazi group in northern Italy had sent members to allegedly fight alongside Russia-backed separatists in the Donbass region of Ukraine. Apparently, the group brought some things back from their adventures—including a French-made air-to-air missile that somehow found its way from Qatar into the home of a neo-fascist extremist.
“The missile and an assortment of other weapons were discovered in the latest of a series of raids by Italian federal police from the General Investigations and Special Operations Division (DIGOS). The raids are part of an ongoing investigation into the Forza Nuova political party and Rebel Firm extremist groups that had fought in the Donbass region.”

This is troubling news.
What’s really terrifying me, though, is the thought that they might acquire milkshake technology.
Thanks for putting in the last sentence. By “milkshake technology” you mean cement shakes meant to break skulls Antifa style. So the message is – Antifa violence is acceptable and good and can be totally ignored. No matter that they are firebombing ICE facilities, beating up journalists, and building up arsenals.
…not to worry.

Really?
How about in 10 minutes, time for hypersonic missiles to reach their destinations? Or in 2 hours, time for gigantic tsunami to reach the costs?
Hellooo! Anybody sane left?
The global elite have no interest in launching nuclear strikes or inducing tsunami’s through HAARP.
The interest has ALWAYS been to seize power though domestic civil insurrections and disarming the citizenry.
Same as it ever was.

Not as troubling as your willingness to drink long and deep from the globalist propaganda well.

Oops.
The book I told you about is excellent. About two thirds through it. A good co read with TLE.
Capital availability globally is the central theme. The demographic changes coming, Boomers aging in the US for example, are going to severely constrict the availability of capital in the world. The world will not react well.
These Neo-liberals in the US could really affect the US response to the capital/credit crunch coming.
They are the biggest enemy the US has ever faced.
Capital is indeed already consolidated among the oldsters these days who are holding onto it for dear life. Ominously, just another reason not to grow too old these days. The youngsters are not going to be sympathetic to our plight once we’re old and incompetent.
I predict euthanasia will be legalized and embraced within 20 years or less. I certainly plan to go that route if something else doesn’t get me first. Inert gas asphyxiation (nitrogen or helium) is the only way to go. No muss, no fuss, no mess, no drama. With an assistant to remove the apparatus, the death will even be labeled as “due to natural causes.”
>>> “Inert gas asphyxiation (nitrogen or helium) is the only way to go. No muss, no fuss, no mess, no drama.”
Any pain, panic, struggle with this method? I had always thought that a large (say 32 gallon) plastic bag, snuggly, but comfortably taped around the neck, after enjoying a half bottle of really good single malt scotch, on the rocks, of course (never did care for “warm” liquor or beer, for that matter) along with a nap (dirt nap?) would fit the bill, if absolutely necessary due to medical / mental issues. Maybe I should revisit that plan?
“With an assistant to remove the apparatus…”

A huge problem with immigration is that these folks have no purpose here. They serve no purpose. –JohnAZ
The immigrants’ purpose is to pay taxes, love America, and create jobs. Immigrants are job creators. Immigrants create jobs for native-born white citizens. Here is the proof:
Immigrants Founded Nearly Half of 2018’s Fortune 100 Companies, New Data Analysis Shows
https://fortune.com/2019/01/15/immigrants-founded-half-fortune-500-companies/
“First- or second-generation immigrants played a founding role in 44 of 2018’s top 100 Fortune 500 companies, including Apple, AT&T, and Ford, according to data analysis published in the February 2019 issue of National Geographic. Other domestic blue chip firms founded by immigrants or their children: Alphabet. Amazon. Costco. And that barely scratches the surface. If the list starts to seem like an inventory of most of the nation’s most successful companies, well, maybe that’s because it is.
It’s been known for some time now that immigrants are a vital, irreplaceable part of many Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 firms. It’s fairly well known, for example, that (AAPL) Steve Jobs‘ father was Syrian…”
Ninety nine percent of America are the result of immigration. All your stats are probably true. Now tell me how many of these superstars were illegal. Legal immigrants are a lifeline for the country, illegals are a burden.
Legal WHITE immigrants only are a benefit. Still you deviate and serve the Enemy.
Little Jane
It will be interesting to see Pres Liz Warren open up the borders and eliminate ICE, hundreds of thousands of 3rd worlders pouring into the US starting inauguration Day 2021, drugs, criminal gangs running amok, infectious diseases rampant, rape, murder, welfare coffers drained, (Whitey blamed for the chaos) LAs population doubling, maybe tripling, you think the city is a shithole now? It’ll be Sweden, X 50.
Brh
Fairly sure JohnAZ was referring to the millions of ILLEGAL ALIENS.
Illegal aliens have no purpose here. Never have, never will.
No one has an issue with immigrants, its only illegal aliens.
Also, regardless of being an immigrant or not, some of those people you refer to at the Fortune 500 companies are the biggest criminals and scumbags the u.s. has ever seen (outside the citizens own government, of course).
Hi Jim,
You write: “And since it is increasingly obvious that they won’t ever pay back the money they borrowed before, they are unlikely to get new loans to continue their profitless operations.”
There is a logical fallacy in your supposition because you make the assumption that the companies in question may not get future loans. What if they do get new loans? What does the world then look like? I’d have to suggest that on a balance of probabilities, the companies in question may get the new loans.
I’d be curious to hear your thoughts in the matter, but I base my guess on the simple fact that the loans were given in the past, the money supply continues to be expanded, and possibly the loans are not a bad place to ‘disappear’ some of that excess money supply. The excess supply has to be ‘disappeared’ otherwise hyper-inflation becomes a distinct possibility.
In the run up to 2008, the excess money supply was channelled into raising prices for housing and other speculative financial assets. It might be that churning the excess money supply into fracking is a more socially useful (in the short term) option. It also neatly keeps the expanding money supply within the country – much like what Japan does (until recently). Before 2008 a goodly portion of the excess money supply was heading out of your country in order to purchase energy.
The alternative options are possibly not so good.
Cheers
Chris
Maybe the next government bailout?
There will be no bail outs next time. Bail in laws are on the books, you do not own the money you have in the bank any more.
What about the proposed student loan bailout, a cool $1.5 trillion. If a Dem is elected president, voters are going to expect it to happen. If they don’t come thru, there will be trouble.
Brh
Also, they will expect borders to be opened, ICE eliminated, free medical care for everybody, a new green economy based upon elimination of fossil fuels … those are the promises, they will have to be kept.
It will be interesting to see what the country looks like when all is said and done.
Are you optimistic?
Brh
My nephew paid $ 64,000 on a $ 21,000 loan. He still owes $18,000 Fuck the Banks!!!
I would make them forgive all student loans where there was ample repayment which means the loan plus 2 percent interest, just like it used to be.
I am no fan of unlimited immigration, Epicur posted a great essay up thread about this.
The rest is a wish list which is fine with me, remember ” A chicken in every pot!
At least they are talking about change but of course nothing will change, at least for the better.
Republicans have their own wish list which will happen soon. Do you know what is on their list?
James, you say “f#ck the banks”.
I’m not sure how the student loan program works, but isn’t the money borrowed directly from the US Treasurey, not private banks?

Lonely Planet….
The Congo is this weird river that is largely obstructed towards its mouth emptying into the Atlantic by a series of cataracts, but once you portage far enough inland with your African porters carrying your tea cups, snuff, butter, marmalade, and other essentials, then you can take a steam boat about 1,000 miles up to Stanley Falls to load up on ivory and rubber. Since the natives no longer trade glass beads, cloth, and tools for food, and just run away when they see Whitey, you may have to take hostages to exchange for food along the way. Be careful in handing out bullets to the local paramilitary forces as they might save the bullets either for hunting or, God forbid, to shoot you. Always make sure that the shiftless local African soldier knaves account for every bullet with a dried, smoked human hand to account for the bullet. And don’t play with yourself….
[Scene from the movie “Jaws”]
Captain Quint: “Stop play’n with yourself Hooper and tie me a line.”
The Americans recognized King Leopold II’s claim to the Congo because King Leo promised the Yanks “Free Trade”.
The French recognized King Leopold II’s claim to the Congo because King Leo gave the French a Right of First Refusal to buy the Congo over the British, and “Free Trade”.
The General Rule is that whenever you see or hear the words “Free”, or “Freedom”, be careful. Watch your wallet. And if you’re in the shower, don’t bend over to pick up the soap.
I’m thinking of running for political office. What do you think of the following potential campaign slogan?:
“Stop Playing with Yourselves!”

David Drum says Whites have to be crushed. A few years ago he denied that there was any campaign against Whites. But now things have changed, evidently, and he feels free to be candid.
White Nationalists are completely vindicated. You normies need to be humble. You didn’t see. We did – now get over your butt hurt and join us. Our Cause is Just in the deepest sense a la the Founders and the Constitution, what to speak of Natural Law and Darwin and above them, Yah Yashua.
It is true! Our Cause is a Just and Righteous Cause. Thus many cannot countenance it. Truth is Light. Light uncovers what is hidden in Darkness and unfortunately many have found comfort abiding in Darkness. But this denial of Truth cannot and will not go on forever.
Yup, you can’t wake up people pretending to be asleep – normally. But you can throw ice water on them and make them get up despite themselves. That’s a kindness at this point. Better than letting them be woken up by savages firing their house.
I wrote replies to JohnOZ and Epicur and BRH and Tokomi up thread. Just want you to know I did not leave you hanging.
Thanks for the heads up James.
It appears a tanker full of oil has disappeared in the Gulf and British and American ships have been dispatched to find it.
I’m a little puzzled tho why you think the US armed forces are out to instigate a nuclear war. The only thing I can think of would be an accident or a misstep like in the movie, The Bedford Incident.
Brh
Here is what happened to the missing ship.
https://www.rt.com/news/464330-iran-rescued-towed-tanker-gulf/
I guess you do not follow international politics, we are going all over the world creating chaos and strife.
We did a regime change in Ukraine which led to a civil war and Russia had to step in to protect the Crimea. This led to the U.S. sanctioning Russia 12 different ways, now we sent almost two billion dollars of weapons to Ukraine with military trainers to use the weapons. We are setting up a proxy war for Russia.
We are sending 2.2 billion in arms to Taiwan which is pissing off China big time. They have a strict no interference policy with their vassal state and will not stand for us arming Taiwan. They will act and then what will we do?
GB just seized an Iranian oil tanker at our request, Trump wants to collapse their economy but cutting their oil sales to zero. That is an act of war and Iran will lash out and then all hell brakes loose.
GB also has seized 1.2 Billion in gold belonging to Venezuela at our request which also an act of war. London has been a international banking center for two hundred years, they just screwed up their reputation for nothing.
We also have warships and bombers flying at the borders of Russia, China and Iran on a daily basis, how long can this go on?
I’m a little puzzled tho why you think the US armed forces are out to instigate a nuclear war.
Why? Because that’s the only way they’re going to actually win a shooting war where the enemy stands their ground and actually shoots back. And because the Zionists want one too, of course. The Izzies and their dumb-assed US/UK Christian enablers have been itching to “Armageddon it” since they first got the bomb back in the late 50’s. They’ll get their way sooner or later. “Prophecy” and all that stupid bullshit.
There has been armed conflict in the world since year 0, as you well know Scratch.
Its here on the CFN comment board we find out all of it — past, present and future — is the fault of the US and Israel.
Brh
So I take it that since war is always present that the U.S. has no responsibility for its actions?
If the US was ever going to use nuclear weapons post 1945, it would’ve been in Korea, in late summer 1950, when the army and marine corps were barely hanging on at the Pusan Penunsula. The thinking was then, I believe, if US positions were overrun and we faced being wiped out, atomic weapons would be deployed.
Brh
From all that I have read BRH, the generals did have the ability to call for the use of nuclear weapons in Korea, but none did. Fortunately, the power was removed from their hands because many, especially Curtis Lemay wanted to nuke North Vietnam but was not allowed to. Bob McNamara did in fact have a report on his desk which argued that such heavy bombing tactics hardened the enemy and decreased their will to even consider surrender since the argument that genocide was being invoked against them was so easy to make by their governments. That was pretty much the cornerstone of the Pentagon Papers, made public by Daniel Ellsberg.
No the US and Israel are not the creators of war although we do play a big role in war for profit, just as the Krupps did in Germany for so many centuries. I would argue that we bear the responsibility of showing the rest of the world that we are not simply invading countries as an excuse to steal resources, which unfortunately, we have not been doing a good job of IMHO.
Actually scratch you are wrong.
Very wrong.
The business of war America is very good at as long as the rules of engagement are not setting us up for failure.
There is the problem if you are in a war you don’t worry about collateral damage like wwII they bombed the shit out of everything and fought wars as they are to be fought till the other sides screams uncle.
Nothing about war is kinder and gentler.
No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country -Patton
Or
Men, all this stuff you hear about America not wanting to fight, wanting to stay out of the war, is a lot of bullshit. Americans love to fight. All real Americans love the sting and clash of battle. When you were kids, you all admired the champion marble shooter, the fastest runner, the big-league ball players and the toughest boxers. Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time. That’s why Americans have never lost and will never lose a war. The very thought of losing is hateful to Americans. Battle is the most significant competition in which a man can indulge. It brings out all that is best and it removes all that is base.
You are not all going to die. Only two percent of you right here today would be killed in a major battle. Every man is scared in his first action. If he says he’s not, he’s a goddamn liar. But the real hero is the man who fights even though he’s scared. Some men will get over their fright in a minute under fire, some take an hour, and for some it takes days. But the real man never lets his fear of death overpower his honor, his sense of duty to his country, and his innate manhood.
All through your army career you men have bitched about what you call ‘this chicken-shit drilling.’ That is all for a purpose—to ensure instant obedience to orders and to create constant alertness. This must be bred into every soldier. I don’t give a fuck for a man who is not always on his toes. But the drilling has made veterans of all you men. You are ready! A man has to be alert all the time if he expects to keep on breathing. If not, some German son-of-a-bitch will sneak up behind him and beat him to death with a sock full of shit. There are four hundred neatly marked graves in Sicily, all because one man went to sleep on the job—but they are German graves, because we caught the bastard asleep before his officer did.
An army is a team. It lives, eats, sleeps, and fights as a team. This individual hero stuff is bullshit. The bilious bastards who write that stuff for the Saturday Evening Post don’t know any more about real battle than they do about fucking. And we have the best team—we have the finest food and equipment, the best spirit and the best men in the world. Why, by God, I actually pity these poor bastards we’re going up against.
All the real heroes are not storybook combat fighters. Every single man in the army plays a vital role. So don’t ever let up. Don’t ever think that your job is unimportant. What if every truck driver decided that he didn’t like the whine of the shells and turned yellow and jumped headlong into a ditch? That cowardly bastard could say to himself, ‘Hell, they won’t miss me, just one man in thousands.’ What if every man said that? Where in the hell would we be then? No, thank God, Americans don’t say that. Every man does his job. Every man is important. The ordnance men are needed to supply the guns, the quartermaster is needed to bring up the food and clothes for us because where we are going there isn’t a hell of a lot to steal. Every last damn man in the mess hall, even the one who boils the water to keep us from getting the GI shits, has a job to do.
Each man must think not only of himself, but think of his buddy fighting alongside him. We don’t want yellow cowards in the army. They should be killed off like flies. If not, they will go back home after the war, goddamn cowards, and breed more cowards. The brave men will breed more brave men. Kill off the goddamn cowards and we’ll have a nation of brave men.
One of the bravest men I saw in the African campaign was on a telegraph pole in the midst of furious fire while we were moving toward Tunis. I stopped and asked him what the hell he was doing up there. He answered, ‘Fixing the wire, sir.’ ‘Isn’t it a little unhealthy up there right now?’ I asked. ‘Yes sir, but this goddamn wire has got to be fixed.’ I asked, ‘Don’t those planes strafing the road bother you?’ And he answered, ‘No sir, but you sure as hell do.’ Now, there was a real soldier. A real man. A man who devoted all he had to his duty, no matter how great the odds, no matter how seemingly insignificant his duty appeared at the time.
And you should have seen the trucks on the road to Gabès. Those drivers were magnificent. All day and all night they crawled along those son-of-a-bitch roads, never stopping, never deviating from their course with shells bursting all around them. Many of the men drove over 40 consecutive hours. We got through on good old American guts. These were not combat men. But they were soldiers with a job to do. They were part of a team. Without them the fight would have been lost.
Sure, we all want to go home. We want to get this war over with. But you can’t win a war lying down. The quickest way to get it over with is to get the bastards who started it. We want to get the hell over there and clean the goddamn thing up, and then get at those purple-pissing Japs. The quicker they are whipped, the quicker we go home. The shortest way home is through Berlin and Tokyo. So keep moving. And when we get to Berlin, I am personally going to shoot that paper-hanging son-of-a-bitch Hitler.
When a man is lying in a shell hole, if he just stays there all day, a Boche will get him eventually. The hell with that. My men don’t dig foxholes. Foxholes only slow up an offensive. Keep moving. We’ll win this war, but we’ll win it only by fighting and showing the Germans that we’ve got more guts than they have or ever will have. We’re not just going to shoot the bastards, we’re going to rip out their living goddamned guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We’re going to murder those lousy Hun cocksuckers by the bushel-fucking-basket.
Some of you men are wondering whether or not you’ll chicken out under fire. Don’t worry about it. I can assure you that you’ll all do your duty. War is a bloody business, a killing business. The Nazis are the enemy. Wade into them, spill their blood or they will spill yours. Shoot them in the guts. Rip open their belly. When shells are hitting all around you and you wipe the dirt from your face and you realize that it’s not dirt, it’s the blood and gut of what was once your best friend, you’ll know what to do.
I don’t want any messages saying ‘I’m holding my position.’ We’re not holding a goddamned thing. We’re advancing constantly and we’re not interested in holding anything except the enemy’s balls. We’re going to hold him by his balls and we’re going to kick him in the ass; twist his balls and kick the living shit out of him all the time. Our plan of operation is to advance and keep on advancing. We’re going to go through the enemy like shit through a tinhorn.
There will be some complaints that we’re pushing our people too hard. I don’t give a damn about such complaints. I believe that an ounce of sweat will save a gallon of blood. The harder we push, the more Germans we kill. The more Germans we kill, the fewer of our men will be killed. Pushing harder means fewer casualties. I want you all to remember that. My men don’t surrender. I don’t want to hear of any soldier under my command being captured unless he is hit. Even if you are hit, you can still fight. That’s not just bullshit either. I want men like the lieutenant in Libya who, with a Luger against his chest, swept aside the gun with his hand, jerked his helmet off with the other and busted the hell out of the Boche with the helmet. Then he picked up the gun and he killed another German. All this time the man had a bullet through his lung. That’s a man for you!
Don’t forget, you don’t know I’m here at all. No word of that fact is to be mentioned in any letters. The world is not supposed to know what the hell they did with me. I’m not supposed to be commanding this army. I’m not even supposed to be in England. Let the first bastards to find out be the goddamned Germans. Some day, I want them to rise up on their piss-soaked hind legs and howl ‘Ach! It’s the goddamned Third Army and that son-of-a-bitch Patton again!’
Then there’s one thing you men will be able to say when this war is over and you get back home. Thirty years from now when you’re sitting by your fireside with your grandson on your knee and he asks, ‘What did you do in the great World War Two?’ You won’t have to cough and say, ‘Well, your granddaddy shoveled shit in Louisiana.’ No sir, you can look him straight in the eye and say ‘Son, your granddaddy rode with the great Third Army and a son-of-a-goddamned-bitch named George Patton!’
All right, you sons of bitches. You know how I feel. I’ll be proud to lead you wonderful guys in battle anytime, anywhere. That’s all
Upon St Crispin’s Day! Yes, Men are eager to die for something greater than themselves. Thus they can be tricked to go thousands of miles away and die for things that have no meaning for them but only for the Elite. To throw their lives away for Scum in other words. Scum who no longer lead the Army or even join it.
Maybe if Men loved themselves and their lives more they wouldn’t be so eager to die? Or at least not so unquestioning fashion. If Trump had called, we would have answered and then your epistle would have real meaning. But Tunis? Fucking Tunis?
I think that most of the people on this website are for the most part well read, both left and right and in-between. It’s still disheartening to see how even here, people seem to lose focus on the biggest problem facing us today. That problem is Oligarchy vs Democracy. I can tell you right now, the rich are never gonna allow the government to tax them. They are also gonna keep everybody else at each other’s throats, while they continue to quietly accrue wealth. To the 1%, nothing else really matters. The irony is that somehow, they have managed to convince the part of the country that is conservative, that all the things that they have done to enrich themselves, is really for the benefit of the 99%. You know, the rest of us.
Personally, I think you are welcome to your viewpoints whatever they may be, after all, that’s what Democracy is all about. Where we are ALL getting screwed, is when we allow the Oligarchs and their underlings to keep us riled up and at each others throats constantly. The biggest problem is that it’s working very well for them. I live out here in the real world, and while I, personally, am doing well, it’s easy to see the kids coming up, busting their asses to get somewhere, and getting screwed over. It used to be that one of the ways you could improve your life was to get a college education. If you needed money, you could work a job part time and make your way through school. It usually meant that it would take you an extra year to get a four year degree.
A part time job won’t cut it any more, and many kids have to borrow large amounts of money to make it through, with the prospects of having to spend the rest of their working lives paying down the debt. This is just one aspect of what’s happening to us in what used to be the middle class. All the decent paying manufacturing type jobs have gone overseas, and most of what’s left doesn’t amount to much. I’ve been around long enough to see the middle class gutted economically, and yet we allow the Oligarchs to stay on top to the point that they own Washington DC now. If you ever think they will allow tax increases on themselves, keep dreaming. I don’t know what more to say, there’s certainly more to talk about on this point, but I admit to being discouraged by what’s going on. I’ll tell you right now, folks, if we don’t do something to change the way things are headed, the people who used to be the middle class are gonna be out in the fields with a one bottom plow, looking at the South end of a horse headed North, and trying to figure out how the hell all this happened. And you know how it happened? We let it happen, and were too stupid to put a stop to it when we still had a chance.
One of the best comments I have read here in a long time.
I feel bad for the kids I see working for eight bucks an hour, I would not get out of bed for 64 dollars. They have no perks, no vacation, sick leave or even full time hours.
My nieces kids all have $100,000 and up school loans and they cannot even pay the monthly bill without their parents help.
The big banks are screwing students and people in general with high fees for interest, overdraft and late fees. The make hundreds of billions for nothing and that is after we gave then 20 Trillion in bailouts!
I would nationalize all the banks except credit unions as still treat people fairly.
they,,, I wish we had an edit feature.
You DO have an edit feature. You write a comment and then you read it carefully 2 or more times before you click submit.
Easy for you to say as you hardly type more than a sentence.
How about working hard like the rest of us and express your opinion on matters other than spelling and grammar.
That minimum wage needs to be doubled and then kept up with inflation.
$30 per hour min wage?
Most small businesses would simply shut their doors.
State and Fed govt, along with huge corporations you hate so much, would be the only entities who could afford to pay that amount.
Brh
No, he said 8 in his state.
Great comment and I agree almost entirely. Although you may want to consider what you refer to as “oligarchs” are what many of us refer to as globalists.
Collapse is the only way out of our current predicament. Once that idea gets widely accepted (as it nearly has, the current system is in its death throes now), the process will begin to accelerate. Welcome it.
But no one’s going to be running a plow. They’ll simply die, as they would have already absent all the current insane medical and industrial food technology. Most will welcome it. They will have spent their entire lives in fear of an imaginary hell in the afterlife, only to wake up after death and realize that they were living it already.
>>> “They will have spent their entire lives in fear of an imaginary hell in the afterlife, only to wake up after death and realize that they were living it already.”
I feel the same way. A nice turn of phrase Ol’ Scratch. It reminds me of a saying… something to the effect that “you go to bed one night thinking things are, well… the way they are; the next thing you know… you wake-up, dead.”
“Collapse is the only way out of our current predicament.”
Nick O Demus,
You, and others first scoffed when the USAF Major opined that ….”we needed to destroy the village to save it….”
…Now? Not so much….
I ask this question to many people.
What changed to make education so expensive?
Answer:
The government got into the business of helping peddle loans for education.
Once that happened the cork was popped off and the amounts went through the roof.
Everything government touches gets more expensive.
You hit the nail on the head. Then there’s a rotation of the non-teaching muckety-mucks, most of whom have worthless higher degrees in “Education” & “Administration” whose mantra is “leadership” & whose only solution to their funding woes is to increase enrollment through any means necessary*.
*Any means necessary specifically meaning higher head counts & greater debt serfdom.
But before that, Education became a business. Of course, Unk Sham may have had a hand in that with the GI loans and what not. In any case, it lost its “sacred” character and became something one needed in order to get ahead. And since everyone was supposed to be getting ahead and becoming a millionaire, everyone who was anyone had to “go” – whether really interested or not or capable or not.
BC IQ testing was banned by government, for personnel
offices [now known as Human resources].
with that, college became the de facto IQ test.
Back then, Police and Hotels did not ask for a degree to get a career type job there.
and now colleges offer online and certificate programs.
Captain,
>>> “The irony is that somehow, they have managed to convince the part of the country that is conservative, that all the things that they have done to enrich themselves, is really for the benefit of the 99%. You know, the rest of us.”
You have hit the nail squarely on the head here. I know the Right has their “pet” issues and all, but why get them at the cost of a personal, economic screwing? I never did get it, but that’s me.
Now, this is not to say that the Left is any great shakes either with the giveaways, high taxes, Socialism, etc., but at least we should be able to agree that we, the real people, are getting “bent over” and abused by the 1% Oligarchs, whom are equal opportunity abusers. They don’t give a shit if you are Right, Left, Center, Agnostic, Atheist, True Believer, etc., you are going to get nothing from them, but a good, old fashioned, hard-core, economic screwing – plain and simple (and indisputable, in my view).
Can’t we wise-up, just a little, and get our act together to put those 1%, Oligarch looking, MoFos where they belong? It would appear, that, indeed, we cannot and only collapse will provide for a fresh start. The problem is, and will be, there there is always a new group of wannabe Oligarchs waiting to take the last 1% gang’s (the high Aristocracy, the Elites) place and they have always been successful in doing so.
It is disheartening. The only way I come to grips with it is to tell myself “fuck it, it has been ever such and it’s not going to change, so the best course of action is to live as comfortable a life as is possible, given the constraints, for my family and myself.” I don’t know if there is a better option, but I wish there was.
I found it interesting, jd, that in 2008 when we were stuffing the big corporations, banks, etc. with money, the government in Iceland was preparing the same kind of giveaway. They were going to take the taxpayer’s money & hand it over to to the banks & corporations, who had invested stupidly. The people of Iceland stood up almost as one, and said “NO you don’t”, and occupied the government’s offices and raised enough hell to put a stop to that little plan. It would have been another case of Socialism for the wealthy, and Capitalism for the citizens. We should be inspired by that kind of behavior, and do the same thing here, but I don’t think that’ll happen. It’s too bad, but we have forgotten that this country is supposed to run for the benefit of the people, an idea which seems to have lost it’s way.
Iceland had a unique advantage in being so infinitisimally tiny, but yes- the principles applied as to who would bear the cost were quite different to those of the rest of the world. Their recovery has been spectacular.

Bravo, that’s all Fascism and National Socialism was ever about. Not funded by the Bankers as your Marxism was and is. View the famous photo of Kushchev and Rockefeller embracing. Or how Trotsky and Rothschild used to lunch together. A legacy of shame.
Read Jack London’s “The Iron Heel” or about his career in Socialism. The Leftists hadn’t completely taken it over at that point in America. As London said, I’m a Socialist but a White Man first.
“The irony is that somehow, they have managed to convince the part of the country that is conservative, that all the things that they have done to enrich themselves, is really for the benefit of the 99%.” – Do you know any conservatives? This is a totally false assertion. Sure there are conservatives that buy into the propaganda put out by the Elite. However many liberals also soak up that same propaganda. Again you are slanted against conservatives in all things.
Democracy is what brought us to this place today. In addition to the nation turning a blind eye to what the Elites have been pulling off for a long time of course. But how have the Elite gotten away with all of this? Through Democracy. You see, Democracy is nothing more than the rule of the mob. If the mob is ignorant then guess what the mob does? Our nation was founded as a Constitutional Republic. But in practice that isn’t what we are anymore. When you have so many uneducated people voting for their pet concerns or voting because they like the way someone dresses, looks, etc., what do you really expect is going to happen? Plus the problem is that not enough people are willing to fight. Most people try to go along to get along. Well that is no defense against newcomers who are more than willing to fight to take away resources. We are at each others throats because resources are shrinking whether people realize that or not. Factions are fighting over the leftovers of the cake. But White Americans are taught from day one that it is evil and wicked to even want to live, let alone fight for a share of available resources. So really I am not sure what people expect. We are going down and we are going down hard and it isn’t going to stop until people are ready and willing to fight. That may not happen unfortunately until people are literally starving and being killed in the streets. But you yourself have said that people don’t act until a problem is right on top of them so I expect you expected this all along one way or another.
My son just got a job offer to become a security guard / combat medic at the U.S. embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan (3 mos. on/1 mo. off). This would shatter his dreams however of launching his heavy metal rock band to superstardom status (I know). What should he do, CFNers? The choice is between a physically high risk gig that pays $185,000/yr vs. a career high risk gig that pays ~ $ /yr? Although he is an outstanding bass player as everyone acknowledges & his band has a tight sound & they have great personal charisma, I would opt for door #1 IF those were the only two choices (which they are not; he has other options). What do you think?
* should be “vs. a career high risk gig that pays minus $10K/ yr..”
What does he want to do?
Does metal music sell? Ever hear of the 360 deal?
I don’t know what the 360 deal is, malt.
I was told Gaga was so ‘pushed’ because she was the first 360 star.
search –music labels now require unknowns to sign a 360 deal…
recordings, book deal, films, etc..label wants all $ streams to be theirs.
I was almost lured into a similar high paying gig in Qatar, post military career. It was almost tempting until I began running down the details. Worked for the military managing military logistics, but wasn’t actually affiliated with the official military in any way. Had to find my own housing and transportation on the economy and the gig was a hurry up thing to backfill the current guy who had either quit or otherwise gone missing. I passed.
I take it your son at least has skills and/or experience in those areas? If he’s already borderline PTSD and doesn’t give a shit either way, then yes, take the money and be a human target again for a while. It’s a crap shoot, but that’s the price for a seat at the table these days. If not, try his luck in the band until something better comes along and hope to connect with someone with money in the process.
But either way, it sounds like he’s already figured out that working for a living is for suckers. Good for him! That’s the key lesson to be learned by all the youngsters these days. Money’s just a means to an end and it matters not how you get it. So throw out all that 20th century nonsense about “earning an honest living” and just do what you need to do to survive. In short: Ditch your ego and become a heat seeking missile for people with money and do whatever you need to do to get them to part with some of it. Period.
The drummer said to me, “We’re big in (X-istan).” I said “Well then go to (X-istan).” They have huge cities there. They’ll never make it in this cowtown. But he likes his mom’s cooking. He just got his degree with his GI benefits, but he’ll have to snap out of this slumber & make a realistic plan & work the plan to succeed. But I agree with you that “earning an honest living” has kind of lost its currency. The Neo-Libs exported all the jobs & left a waste-land & called it peace so what’s a poor boy to do?
Ok–weird story.
I know a very talented guitarist.
His band toured w Skorpions, in east europe, the tour funded by Mafya.
One can be big and not be making much money.
Do not let him go to Afghanistan.
As measured 30% of the particulate in the air is fecal matter from burning manure fires.
There is nothing safe there he will eventually be forced to kill someone and that ruins many people.
