Can’t we just all get along? No, apparently. Branding everyone to the right of Woke a “terrorist” and an “insurrectionist,” as is the style these days with the sore winner party, will probably not warm a whole lot of hearts and minds among the politically disenchanted. It comes with an odor of desperation, too, as if Joe Biden’s consolidated Deep State is so lacking in confidence, even in victory, that it can’t distinguish policy from punishment — and so the beatings will continue until morale improves.
Outside the razor-wired DC perimeter, with its bomb-proof bureaucracy, the economy is in freefall. This has not quite come to the attention of a new regime aroused over systemic racism and the pressing need to expand athletic opportunity for transsexuals. But an inferno is racing across the land like a prairie fire and the remaining American buffalo out there may be inclined to stampede before long. Can Ol’ White Joe hear their distant hoofbeats from the Oval Office? Maybe not with Nancy Pelosi and AOC screaming in his ears.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 779,000 people filed for first-time unemployment the week ended January 30. The news media called that “a beat” because it was under the 830,000 expected. It’s been that way week-after-week this year of Covid-19. Nonfarm business sector labor productivity decreased 4.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2020, the largest quarterly decline in the measure since the second quarter of 1981. Yes, forty years ago, when the US population was 226 million (it’s now 330 million). The stock market responded by smashing new all-time highs. Bad “optics?”
How do you think the value of shares manages to go up, up, up, and away, day-after-day, while the value of the economic activity goes down, down, down day-after-day? Must be Modern Monetary Magic, like the Federal Reserve purchasing $80-billion a month in US Treasury bond issues and another $40-billion in mortgage-backed securities for a grand total of $120-billion a month. The real monetary magic, of course, is that it’s possible to have a Wall Street boom while the economy collapses. The nation’s assets have already been stripped, so where is all this “value” actually coming from? Answer: from the false expectation of enormous future American productivity. It’s false because it’s based on the creation of debt that can’t possibly be paid back…ever. It’s not based on investment in future productive enterprise.
The economy won’t be fixed by policy because the things that have to happen to fix it will be resisted to the death by the parasitical entities feeding on what little remains. For instance, Walmart. Do you think it’s unhealthy that all the profit in American commerce is funneled into Bentonville, Arkansas? It used to be distributed in hundreds of thousands of small businesses in tens of thousands of US towns and cities. What do you think will die first: Walmart or the organism it’s feeding on?
Since the dynamic at work is emergent and non-linear, other forces can come between these relationships and change things. We are already in conflict with China, the land that supplies most of the merchandise in Walmart. The conflict right now is mostly playing out in the capture of US corporate and cultural enterprise, and in cyberwarfare, and it’s liable to hotten up around the continued sovereignty of Taiwan (America’s China). It’s difficult to assign intentions to another country but it appears that China’s China wishes to cancel the USA as the fading hegemon on the world stage, at least neutralize us, and perhaps dominate us. Mr. Trump is no longer in place to resist that, and the country might be forced to consider all those deals that our new president, “China Joe,” enjoyed from the Biden family’s business ventures there over the years.
Emergently, then, the Big Box business model could fail, and in fairly short order, which would at least give Americans a chance to self-reorganize the production and distribution of goods in our own country. It sure won’t be like 1957 again, but it would give an awful lot of idle people more to do when they get up in the morning. Wait for it, and plan accordingly.
In the meantime, we are treated to the sordid spectacle of Democratic Wokesters endeavoring to destroy what remains of American cultural life. It’s an incomparably stupid and malign distraction from the imperatives of this historical moment. They will not succeed in cancelling those who object to the systematic disassembly of our national language, myth, and meaning, even if we have to go back to the mimeograph machine to keep these things alive. They will not turn a republic into a psychopathic despotism. Politics, they say, is downstream from culture. Truth is the antidote to a culture of lies. The upcoming impeachment trial of former president Trump will be a showcase for that, and it may prove to be a hoax too far.

Concerning the first paragraph, I see the Democratic establishment in a different place. I think that they feel pretty secure in their power and are moving very quickly to consolidate it. Now, they may not succeed in cowing any opposition to their increasing control, but they have the initiative and seem to know how to use it, in contrast to their opposition But, I agree with our host that events may override their great leap forward, meaning the financial collapse that’s looming. This is probably the only event of the year that can derail their momentum and reverse their overreach.
I see the NY AG finally moving against Andrew Cuomo as more likely a sign of their power than weakness.
There is always a shifting at the top after these types of takeovers happen, those who thought they were in find themselves on the outs.
Andrew was the heir apparent to Joebama, now it looks like the Obama radicals have other ideas.
Andrew is, after all, a white man.
Cuomo has moved from an annoying Progressive destroying New York to the most reactionary figure in .state government. The Dems have a veto-proof majority and can do whatever they like.
I used to think I’d be glad to see him go, but now he looks to be better than whatever Progressive radical replaces him.
He got worse when he tried to suck up to those progressive radicals.
Infanticide was never his deal, he only came out with that horrifying legislation to prove his bona fides with the Obama crowd.
He used to be just incompetent and corrupt, which isn’t so unusual for NY.
I’m wondering if Letitia James has her own eyes on the governorship.
I could be wrong, maybe she’s someone who has had a parent or grandparent in long term care herself, and doesn’t believesomeone who would take the kind of action he insisted on taking is fit for office.
She was viewed as a Cuomo loyalist (cat’s paw, even) when she ran for AG but I think she sees the political winds shifting hard to left. My guess is that she will make a bid to primary AC next year. She may well succeed.

It’s hard to come up with a benign reason for what Cuomo and Zucker did.
It’s not as if alternatives weren’t offered. It’s not as if no one warned them what would happen, and as if anyone didn’t plead with them not to do it.

black women were the most loyal voting bloc for Biden. We’ve seen some interesting recent appointments that make the case that the economy will do better when black women do better, and they intend to skew the parlaying field that way.
I don’t have to like it to admire the way the D’s reward their supporters and punish their perceived enemies. Trump, by contrast, rewarded his enemies with the corporate tax cuts, and lost support only amongst white men in 2020 compared to 2016. Perhaps they were less than enthusiastic given his lack of rewards to them and punishment to Trump’s enemies?
Or, maybe the woke corporations were never Trump’s enemies…
I do know of a number of white men, Libertarian leaning, who dropped their support due to his failure to fire Fauci, and the resulting economic nightmare due to the unconstitutional shutdown.
I became on the outs with my own side, because until anybody would acknowledge that he was all in for that bs, we were never going to get him to back off of it.

About China. No matter what one thinks of the PRC dictatorship or their reluctance to disavow The Great Helmsman (who for all the good he did for the welfare of the country could have been a western plant – forty million alone dead from the Great Leap Forward), one must admire Chinese tenacity and devotion to “the long view”. Southeast Asia and Australia are seen as natural fiefdoms, and the current sloshing around of billions from Beijing is bound to exert a desired effect.
Not to mention the steadily escalating projection of naval power, starting off with the South China Sea bases. Twenty years or even fifty years may well see a dragon-superpower exerting a major influence all across Asia, if not the world.

If not already underway, there is about to be a purge of the military. Wrong thinking cannot be allowed and must be rooted out. So, the current occupants don’t trust their own armed forces. Our congress is crouched behind the barricades they’ve built in DC and it looks more like they are under siege than in control. It doesn’t look like a position of strength to me.
I’ve heard a few “suggestions” that military and police be required to re-up an oath? Pledge? (to what or who exactly other than the constitution I don’t know) And that if they don’t, they could be discharged or if police, not receive federal funding.
Regarding this orwellian paranoia, one has to wonder if those making these suggestions are privy to some sort of threat intel we’re all unaware of, or are purposely being fed false intel to make them believe there’s an existential threat that doesn’t actually exist (unless they consider consequences for breaking the law an existential threat), and that that false intel could be coming from a domestic OR foreign source.
Do people really believe that half the country are violent white supremacist domestic terrorist that need to be rooted out ala former CIA head Brennen’s suggestions? Unfortunately, yes. The question is what got them to believe such an obvious fantasy?
We could tomorrow find out all the evidence of election fraud and everyone admit they committed a crime and the DOJ actually prosecute the criminals and put them away, but then who do you replace them with?
Even if Trump is put back in office, you still have half a country believing the other half are subhuman, irredeemable violent white supremacist domestic terrorists. You still have the schools and msm preaching divisive, contemptuous critical-theory.

I dunno. There are many ideas floating around. Over on Quod Verum some of the minds that helped unravel almost the entire Spygate shennanigans are convinced that Trump is making a return, and that the “impeachment trial” will serve as a theater to expose the electoral fraud that the criminal network blocked from being presented in court prior to Biden’s installment.
Trump has been quiet, other than to set up his Office of the Former Pres., but it is difficult to say whether any of these rumors hold water.
The only known is that he shuffled out of the WH quickly and with none of the usual send-offs given to a US President, and he has been very quiet down in Mar a Lago.

As far as his take on Rudy, Mr. Byrne is not a politician and would see behavior that is quite normal in such circles as appalling, so we have to factor that into his views of Rudy’s actions.
What is clear though, is the campaign did not run as it should have.

You’re correct, I believe, and also, they don’t want him to run again. That’s what the impeachment is about. THey don’t want to have to rig the election in 2024 – now there are too many eyes on Dominion, etc. and we know their methods. They’d have to figure out a whole new operation.

Even though we know their methods, and many eyes have seen through last year’s stolen election, it worked. If there is an election in 2024 I expect it to be an even more transparent fraud than the last one. (“Hillary re-elected with 129% of the vote!”) And we will have no where to go to complain.

Thanks. I was looking for something like this. Most of the others carrying the Torch of the Lost Cause are Evangelicals who are mixing religion into it. On one Zoom meet up, a woman in touch with General Flynn was criticized when she said General Flynn had said that President wouldn’t meet with him or with Sydney Powell towards the end. The moderator said she didn’t want any “negativity” or he said/she said – even though that’s why she was brought in. The moderator just didn’t like the news, a buzz kill to her positive thinking and God is in control belief.
General Flynn said he was going home. Sydney Powell is left with a vicious law suit against her by Dominion.

$800 a year government insurance fee? Good luck with that. In my neck of the woods, land of Bass Pro and a significant number of men and some women being hunters, this will not fly.

My guess — they push a phase out of IC engines (picture a cash for clunkers “carrot” and a fuel tax increases “stick”). People thus forced into electrics (assuming they can afford them; if not you’re SOL and can wait for the bus). Then, since base-load power generation capacity has been crippled by “green” initiatives, the daily rolling blackouts make it impossible to keep the EV batteries fully charged. No one will get to see the USA in their Chevrolet…
Leaving aside the question of fuel source, the plan for the future is that ordinary people (let’s say the bottom 90%) don’t have privately owned cars. When you need transport you call for it on your smart phone. A driver-less, AI controlled cab then shows up to move you.
It’s estimated that society could function with one seventh the current number of cars this way. Think how much time your car sits idle, waiting for you to use it.
An additional benefit for TPTB would be denial of service to punish people with the wrong opinions or lacking in the latest recommended immunization.
You must live on the East Coast or a city, in the West your ideas hold no water at all. We depend on the car here and for distances longer than the batteries last.
The plan is, to put as many of those “welfare tower” type high-rises as possible in suburban and even formerly rural areas, cram them full of Third World immigrants and “refugees”, and make them into population centers.
This isn’t a fantasy, they were attempting it as far back as the Carter era, back then it was to get the right mix of people to please those who don’t like the idea of people choosing to live with people they consider to be like them.
Now they claim it is more “efficient”.
This is happening right now, but it hasn’t spread out of the suburbs too much yet.

When I go to the garden center I do not intend to climb into some strangers Uber to do so. Certainly not mass transit.
I drive my 2007 Subaru Outback to the garden center, load it up with big bags of Bumper Crop and lots of six packs of plants and pots and anything else I want.
Then I am home in 20 minutes and I can back my car up in the driveway and unload it where I intend to garden and if dirt gets in my car there will be no one to bitch to me about it.
And I am in control of my car and to a major extent with the germs that are in it.
I have ZERO interest in getting into any strangers car and paying for it! Especially when I own my own car outright!
Let me know when the driverless vehicles have been trained to operate on dirt roads like the one I live on for which the width varies from wide enough for two vehicles to someone needs to pull over as much as they can while the other car inches by.
It’ll have to be pretty smart AI to understand mud season and recognize (before you get stuck) mud that can be driven through vs mud that that you can’t, and black ice from dry or wet pavement before you hit it, and glare ice vs pack ice etc.
Living independent of the government will be deemed a crime (if they can’t tax you into submission).
They can’t have any examples out there of people being self-sufficient to give the slaves any ideas.
Drones will get over that driveway no problem and first give you a warning to license and register your energy-harvesting device (that you invented) so that it can be taxed and perhaps some of your energy redistributed (which you won’t be able to afford).

Wonder how much it will cost to put a car charging station on every corner like gas stations now. What about all the owners and helpers at gas stations? What about all the auto mechanics?
What about the scarcity of rare earths, how long are they going to last building millions of batteries, not just for cars, but for house solar, wind machines. Oh yeah, windmills and solar panels do not run all the time and need storage units.
If Biden’s plan takes off, we are screwed. There is not enough battery making ability to do GND. Electric cars will never be affordable to Joe Average, And he will never be able to afford the heating electric bills. Look around your neighborhood. Even with tax incentives, how many solar panels do you see?
The Democrats are going to destroy the USA with their anti fossil fuels programs alone.
Biden is promoting Iran, snubbing SA, and ignoring Israel. Holy cow! He is creating an environment that is going to drive us into the next oil crisis. All you folks that voted for these bums, I hope you enjoy $5 a gallon gasoline and inflation everywhere. That is what is coming, a economic apocalypse.

I often think about how folks will build, service and charge millions of electric vehicles. I have a 2011 Toyota which at some point needs to replaced. Teslas seem to catch on fire a lot, although someone on this very board wanted to argue that point with me. I think he and Elon had a thing going.
I am going to keep my evil, 6 cylinder internal combustion engine until the wheels fall off. My last Toyota went north of 300,000 miles. It will either become to expensive to drive or I will become too old to drive it. My timing may work out.

I wonder about that too. An electric vehicle can work for people who only do short hops around town, but the incredibly short ranges of only a couple hundred miles is useless for anyone who does a lot of driving. I have an 850 mile drive each way every time I visit my daughter. My truck has a 36 gallon tank meaning I only need to stop for gas once each way. It is about a 12 – 14 hour trip depending upon bathroom & food stops & construction or other backups. If I had to stop 4 times to recharge in order to do this trip, there is no way I could do it in one day. And how long will it take if I have to wait in line to get to a charging station after I manage to find one?
Flying is not a viable option and there is no train service from here to there. It is a 2 hour drive to the airport and upon arrival an hour drive to my daughter’s, plus getting to the airport early for going through security etc., and there not being any direct flights from here to there (meaning it being two flights to get there) it is a full day’s trip even if I fly. I would also note that driving to and from the airport is beyond the range of EV batteries, so on my way back I’d need to stop to recharge in order to get back home.
I’ll start to pay attention when EV’s have a 1,000 mile range between recharges.

How are the enforcers identifying violators, and what happens when they do? Some of my contacts in the U.S. imply that there is no real contact tracing and people routinely violate the rules with no consequences. Are there military check-points at all state line crossings with 2-week quarantine camps at every crossing point? I don’t think so. The news about this 14-day quarantine every time you cross state lines doesn’t make sense. The news from the U.S. doesn’t make sense for most of the past few years.
Over here the government has the ability to monitor you but I get the impression they don’t have the man power to monitor everyone in quarantine all the time. Contact tracing is precise here and that seems to be the point at which violators are caught and punished. Some people are monitored more closely, short term visitors for example. Our punishment for violating the rules is more severe than for normal Korean citizens so we try to stay in line.

There is no treatment, there is no magic pill, there is nothing we can do other than to support these people and hope that their own immune systems can fight along with our interventions to keep them alive.

The mask idea doesn’t hold up as science. All the science prior to March 2020 says masks don’t work, and all the science since then does not show that they do.
More important, the actual data from states like Florida (the real data, not the lies in the MSM) prove that masks not only don’t help, they appear to make things worse.

I am a retired nurse that worked through SARS 1. It was a nightmare for a while in the ICU. Awww is trying to give out information of how the crud has affected her units. Why do you have to call her a liar. How the hell do you know she is not relating exactly what is going on.
Tertiary care centers, hospitals, are focus points for the areas they serve. The mortality of any epidemic will be focused into the hospitals. It is EASY to imagine that hospitals in the megapolis that is the East Coast might be overwhelmed.
Why don’t you take her up on her offer and visit? I would imagine she would be glad to tour you, and make sure you are maskless as masks do not do anything anyway.

There are nurses in my own unit that won’t get the vaccine. Not because COVID is a hoax, but because it’s so new. One has a hearing deficit from an antibiotic she received as a child, another from birth—so she’s also very afraid of anything that may prove ototoxic after the studies come back in a few years.
I have the antibodies from when I was sick. I still received the two dose vaccine. I also am in a clinical trial that my hospital is running for those who have antibodies to donate blood, so that antibody therapy can be offered to the sickest…but most likely to survive.
You seem to believe that we suppress proven medical advances…..in order to achieve what? What would we GAIN by having overflowing ICUs and lack of PPE and healthcare workers walking away from this job en masse?

So here is how being admitted to a hospital goes. You come into the ER. That is not being “admitted”. You are there as an “outpatient”, technically. If you are seen by a hospitalist or an internist or a specialist—and it’s deemed that you need a higher level of care, that the hospital can provide, you are written “admit orders”.
Your case then goes to PLC or “House Supervisor” or “Bed Control”.
This is to determine the level of care needed. ICU level? Step down? Floor status? Obs? Maternity? Neuro?
See, when you’re INFORMED, you understand that I cannot place a patient that is being administered lytics (tPa for a stroke) to a floor status.
They need q15 NIHSS checks, which include comprehensive neuro/vascular checks and someone specialized (like me in ICU) to administer a dangerous drug like tPa (I can cause additional bleeding in your brain if I don’t know what I’m doing or I have 5 other patients to care for who divide my time)

We have 1200 beds, all divided into units. Each patient has a an ESI level attached to them. A level 1 will be assigned to an ICU—they are critical and need 1:1 care. Like what I do.
In my MICU, I have 30 beds. All right now are OCCUPIED. The average length of stay is 3 weeks right now. THREE WEEKS.
That means that the guy that I’ve been caring for….the one with the collapsed right lung, a line, triple lumen right neck, trialysis catheter for dialysis in his right groin, rectal tube, foley catheter, INTUBATED—-on fentanyl/precedex/vasopressin/insulin/heparin drip….
can’t be moved from my ICU until he’s off of all drips and extubated.
Now multiply that by 30. He’s post COVID. So are most of the patients on my unit.
Where would you like to have the bed control place your mother who just had an ischemic stroke…and is on tPa…who needs ICU level care?

My better half spent 22 days between the cardiac unit and cardiac unit ICU in December. The cardiac unit seemed full but he always got a bed. I am sure COVID folks were there, but I didn’t see any. This seems to depend on your geographic area. Perhaps folks can’t get care there, but I am happy to report my husband got prompt and excellent care. He is doing much better!
I’m a retired nurse also and have experience in cardiac care ICU and trauma/surgical ICU and psych/substance abuse. The patient you describe sounds like he is in kidney failure — is this correct? Is he elderly? Chronically ill before he contracted covid?
When I was working in ICU units we were usually at capacity with critical patients and triaged as best as we could. I believe you when you say your hospital is overwhelmed and the patients who usually fill ICUs are not able to receive the care they need.
There’s no doubt some are hit very hard by this virus but the point is, the majority are not and draconian measures have been taken that could cause far worse problems. Last month I read an article that overdose deaths surpassed covid in San Francisco.

38yo male had no real underlying issues. He drank a little too much on the weekends and has a bit of centripidal obesity going on…maybe BMI 31….but nothing spectacular. Non smoker. caucasian.
He just spiraled fast. PEEP on the vent….5…..8….10…..I maxed out on his precidex to keep him asleep…he was chewing the tube.
The big thing with these weekers is ICU psychosis. We can’t keep them intubated without keeping them sedated, as they chew and fight. Propofol is the least attractive now, so precedex and fentanyl.
YES. He threw clots to his renals…and has now very little output. His right lung collapsed bc he thrashed on another shift and pulled his triple lumen….puncturing his lung.
Can’t put him on anything but heparin for the clots…he’s too unstable for an IVC filter…but these COVID patients form clots EVERYWHERE…we can’t keep up.
Everybody comes to the Level 1 hospitals because they think since we’re teaching hospitals, and have all the biggest and best….they will get better or faster care.
That’s simply not true in this pandemic. We have no room. Our ER is on divert 3 of 7 days a week. That means your mom who is acting funny this morning, slurring her words, might get diverted by ambi to a small community hospital in rural nowhereville, because we cannot take her.
People just don’t get it. They’re safe and sound in their little enclaves and read the interwebs….and trust some schmuck who is trying to get them to donate via PATREON so that they don’t have to go get a real job of their own….and you get this ridiculous feeding of whatever seems to make people angriest (because that’s what makes them donate)

ICU psychosis is terrible for the patients and greatly complicates their recovery b/c they cause damage that has to be corrected and prolongs their recovery. It may take years before we really know why some people die (or come close to it) while others shake it off. My daughter’s 95 yr old great-grandmother-in-law only had a mild case of diarrhea. Go figure.

Thank you no. I spent 12 of the last 18 months in local hospitals…almost daily. I need no introduction.
But, perhaps you misread my intent…I care not if the procedure is offered (or not)…Demand the swabbing in a loud voice…Speak to security…one way or another, you will get your anal procedure.

The hospital is the last ditch effort, and a lot of it was handled poorly by using protocols which exacerbated the underling problem.
The better approach, always the better approach, is to do everything possible to keep people from ever having to go to the hospital let alone be admitted, in the first place.
There are treatment protocols which work very well, with excellent documentation, available from providers such as the PCP. When “the government” and “the media” along with supposedly respectable medical journals (think Lancet) provide the wrong information, appearing to meddle on purpose to meet an agenda, it’s a problem.
When supposed “authorities” tell people to stay home if they fell sick, rather than call their physician, it’s a problem.
The problem is then allowed to fester and enlarge to the point where in-hospital treatment might not work and in fact make the condition worse (think dismal outcomes).
The physician who might want to treat by using available medications off-label is threatened to the point of loss of license. The major medical lobby (think AMA, representing a whopping 12% of physicians) blacklists the off-label use of established anti-malarial and anti-parasitic drugs which, amazingly, were documented in other countries to be effective.
This is why it is possible some hospitals perceive a crisis. The patients should have been identified very early, given prophylactic treatment and early intervention treatment as needed, as office visits and out-patients. They never would have seen the inside of a hospital.
I’m not going to the nursing home issue, a few others have touched on it already.

On the natl. news last night, some african american woman was crying that the covid was attacking blacks more than whites, and that black people were not being prioritized in the vaccine distribution system. All the blacks can go ahead of me as well. I’ve been telling people for years that large daily doses of Vit D3 work to keep you blood serum levels up within a healthy range. I take 8,000 iu per day. My yearly blood work always shows it within the optimum range. I’ve also started taking vit C as well as other supplements recommended by Chris Martensen. I’m older so have some concern about covid but not enough to go around outdoors wearing a mask which is absurd.
I used to believe and took heavy precautions. Be safe than sorry has been anf still my mantra.

I have also seen the statistics on this, that AAs are dying in greater numbers.
I have my own theories based on experiential evidence, and it’s localized, as some have pointed out.
Some of the factors are cultural, and some are physiological. Culturally, from what I have seen in the South…SOME blacks tend to be very leery of seeking medical attention and when they do, tend to discard the advice. By the same token, SO DO SOME WHITES.
However, it’s well documented that black and indigenous populations have a real reason to fear governmental fixes. This vaccine is one of them. Mistrust/distrust for the medical establishment in these populations is well founded, historically. Eugenics comes to mind.
My thought is a lottery. It’s fair and unbiased. I hated the movie “Contagion”, but this is precisely how the vaccine was distributed in the conclusion of it.
I am angry that people are coming to the hospital seeking employment so that they can be considered “essential frontline workers” just to get the vaccine, and then they quit.

It was Aug 27 when the CDC officially forbade the use of ivermectin as an early stage treatment for covid, along with zinc and an antibiotic.
Last month, believe it was Jan 15th, they changed their stance to neither disallowed nor recommended, thereby allowing doctors to prescribe ivermectin.
During the fall as local case totals and deaths continued to rise locally, I wondered how many might have been saved with the early IVM treatment.
I still do. Reading awww’s account of what is happening at his/her hospital, wonder how much lighter the case load might have been with early treatment of symptomatic covid infections.
We’ll never know. But it is damn depressing to have the realization the government via the CDC may have killed people by withholding early treatment.

Before this pandemic I was a supporter of teacher’s unions and I’m sure there are still many who would rather be in the classroom than zoom. But the fact that the unions in Chicago, San Francisco, and other cities refuse to go back to the classroom, I have to ask myself — do they really care about educating these kids? All will suffer consequences from a lost year but the ones home alone with little supervision or direction will be hurt the worst. At the very least, their salaries need to be cut in half until they return full time to school.
Perhaps this has nothing to do with the Covid, and more to do with the federal manipulation of what is being presented in the classroom. Maybe these unions have had it with wokesterism.

What I have read really ticks me off.
The vaccines may or may not cover the variants IDed so far. The South African variant already shows resistance to the vaccines. The variants are projected to be more prevalent than the original.
These vaccines are like the flu shot. Some people are immune, the crud cannot touch them. Others however have a small reaction and it only lasts for a while. Then you get another booster. No one knows how often yet.
The shots are only effective to stop the serious progression of the crud. Probably a moderate reaction with enough memory cells to eventually kill the crud but it takes awhile. Like the flu shot, if you get a mild case down the road, you can spread it.
I read a CDC statement of what will be different after the vaccine. Not much! Basically it said that you can hang out with folks who have gotten the shot to minimize risk. All the other rules stay in place. It is because even vaccinated, you can catch mild cases of the crud and spread it.
The flu shot is reflective of the influenza variants every year. It probably means that as each new virus shows up, it means an additional shot. Wow, sounds like fun.

In other capitalist societies there is usually – in any field of commerce – a range of companies, with a few big players in robust competition, then a much larger group of medium-sized ones, and then a lot of small players who find a viable niche in the market – certainly enough for a family to survive.
But even in a time of plenty, Americans will travel further to get butter at 20c a pound cheaper, and the same for a wide range of things that the country still does actually produce.
For a wide range of other stuff from China – from shoes to bedsheets to crockery to tools and flatscreen TVs … small providers have almost no chance to compete. We have all been seduced by lower prices, and a “good enough” attitude towards the quality of so many things.
The cost of this consumer cornucopia is very high indeed. And Walmart will dominate until its business model no longer works … its supply chains are broken, or there are hardly any customers for what it sells.

I think the Democrat leadership (and much of the MSM) have made a mistake in labeling loud and vocal pro-Trump groups – and indeed the QAnon crackpots – as “terrorists” … it really dilutes the power and meaning of that word.
Even “domestic terrorists” is rather too grandiose. Personally I see most of these groups as comprising angry young men who can’t get any sex (or much else), so they resort to wearing camo pajamas and playing cowboys and indians on weekends.
Many of these people needs bibs and extended day-care – and do not constitute a “terrorist” threat, as most people understand that word. Very few are a potential Timothy McVeigh.

Irrespective of the Supreme Court, President Biden can only be removed from office by impeachment or the invoking of the 25th Amendment. The Supremes have no powers to remove a president.

Lots of claims and speculation about motives and methods, but not much by way of evidence. And a lot of these claims have been readily explained.
For example, election rules were changed in a number of states (including states that Trump won handily) in order to facilitate safe voting in a pandemic. Is there a problem with that?
Anyway, it’s no secret that labor and much of big business wanted to be rid of Trump (and Trumpism) – as did a lot of other stakeholders (I expect within the Republican Party as well).
So I remain sceptical that the election was rigged before Nov 3, and then fraudulently processed after Nov 3. It’s over to those who believe it was to make their case.

No judge in any state “changed the rules” … in a few states proposed rule changes were challenged in court (usually by Team Trump or the GOP, because voter suppression is what they do best – like removing drop-boxes and closing polling booths in minority areas).
And in a fair number of cases, judges ruled that in the circumstances (the pandemic), the rule changes were both justified and allowable under state laws. In a couple of notorious cases, judges ruled inflexibly that the laws couldn’t be changed.
