“I’m proud of my son” — Joe Biden
I hope you agree this has been an instructive week for our republic, sinking to the bottom as fast as the Titan submersible on its way to consort with its grandmama, the RMS Titanic. Here’s what I learned, for instance, from Special Counsel John Durham’s visit to the House Judiciary Committee: When asked why he did not seek grand jury testimony from the primary culprits in the Russia Collusion hoax — Comey, McCabe, and Strzok — he told the room it would have been “unproductive” because they habitually claimed to “not recall” anything when testifying in Congress.
That’s an interesting legal theory. If it is so, we must suppose that any witness in a criminal inquiry may decline testifying on the grounds of claiming a defective memory. I’m not a lawyer, of course, but is it not the case that witnesses can be prompted to recall events when presented with evidence? E.g., “…here is your smartphone text of July 29 saying, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll stop him [Trump].’ What means did you have in mind to accomplish that, Mr. Strzok?”
In the four-year lead-up to his personal appearance in the House, many of us were fooled into thinking Mr. Durham was a serious dude. (I sure was.) Turns out the ferocious facial hair masked a rather timorous persona. Mr. Durham apparently did not dare test the boundaries of the narrow lane laid out in the scoping directives set forth by then Attorney General Barr. Mr. D. did find a line of criminal conduct between Lawfare artist Michal Sussmann, the Fusion GPS disinfo company, the DC law firm Perkins Coie, and candidate Hillary MyTurn in the creation and marketing of the Steele Dossier — yet he never called Hillary to do any ‘splainin about it (or anything else she did in 2016). Weird, a little bit.
While his omissions and missteps were spotlighted by the Republican members, Mr. Durham was mugged, kicked to the curb, stomped, and peed-on by the committee Democrats, who still labor to prop-up the dead-letter Russia Collusion fraud against all evidence and reason. As usual, the lead attack dog on that was Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA). He was rewarded the next day with a censure vote for seven years of shameless lying about said fraud, and stripped of his seat on the House Intel Committee, which he used, as then-chairman, to launch Trump Impeachment #1 in 2019 with fake “whistleblower” (and CIA goblin) Eric Ciaramella, whom Mr. Schiff naturally lied about never meeting prior to the proceeding.
We are treated in these twilight months of the “Joe Biden” regime to a cavalcade of revelations laying out the degeneracy of a federal justice system at war with the American people and its shady machinations in service to the Biden family global bribery operation. Late Thursday, the House Ways and Means Committee, chaired by Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO), released the affidavit of IRS supervisory special agent Gary Shapley from testimony given in closed session May 26. It disclosed a concerted program by the DOJ to impede, obstruct, delay, divert, and bury a massive tax evasion and fraud case against Hunter Biden, involving millions of dollars garnered from foreign persons and entities for no discernible services performed in return.
I am alleging, with evidence…” Mr. Shapley testified under oath, “…whatever the motivations, at every stage decisions were made that had the effect of benefiting the subject of the investigation. These decisions included slow-walking investigative steps, not allowing enforcement actions to be executed, limiting investigators’ line of questioning for witnesses, misleading investigators on charging authority, delaying any and all actions months before [the 2020] elections to ensure the investigation did not go overt well before policy memorandum mandated the pause.”
Hunter Biden was code-named “Sportsman” as the case opened in 2018. Red flags in bank transfer records of Hunter B and associates involving millions of dollars triggered the IRS inquiry. It wasn’t until a year later that Hunter’s laptop turned up, crammed with deal memos of bribes paid along with vivid documentary evidence of sex and drug crimes. The FBI verified its authenticity in November of 2019 by matching the device number against Hunter Biden’s Apple iCloud ID.
By the way, note that this was the exact same time that the House Intel Committee under chairman Adam Schiff commenced its impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump. AG William Barr and FBI Director Chris Wray therefore knew then that Hunter’s laptop existed and that it contained evidence of suspicious money transactions with Russia, China, and most particularly Ukraine — since Mr. Trump’s impeachment case was based on a telephone query he made to Ukrainian President, Zelensky, regarding the Biden family’s operations there. Neither Mr. Barr nor Mr. Wray alerted Mr. Trump’s lawyers about the evidence contained in the laptop — which would have provided exculpatory proof of a reasonable motive for Mr. Trump’s phone call. How was that not an obstruction of justice?
Mr. Shapley’s testimony is just one thread in the much larger tapestry of Biden family corruption now achieving clarity. Rep. James Comer’s Oversight Committee continues on its deep dive into the Biden family bank transfer records — with its evidence of money laundering through Biden shell company cut-outs — and the direct voice recording evidence of “Joe Biden” discussing his family’s financial arrangements with Petro Poroshenko, then-president of Ukraine from 2014 to 2019, plus other damning evidence connected to a “trusted” (and well-paid) FBI human confidential source in the much fought over FD-1023 document recently surrended to the Oversight Committee.
In short, the tide is going out even as the sun sets on “Joe Biden” as President. He and his handlers may believe they enjoy the protection of a compliant news media, but even that has its limits. Impeachment is coming, even if not as fast as Rep. Lauren Boebert wants it to, and if and when it does, there will be no ignoring the stark presentation of hard evidence — no matter how much MSNBC’s Joy-Ann Reid snorts and cackles.
Meanwhile, please understand that “Joe Biden” is only pretending to run for reelection and his party is pretending along with him just for the present desperate moment. Before long, their whole reeking, creaking edifice of lies and bad faith will come crashing down. Joe Biden will have to resign or the nation will be treated to the spectacle, this time, of a trial in the senate for real cause, bribery and treason, not just fake animus. And then, not even Gavin Newsom will be able to save the Democratic Party in its present alignment and foul habits. If it survives at all, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. will have to rebuild it from the ground up and expel the demons infesting it.

In April, 2023, Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) Kathie Breault was indicted in the Eastern States District Federal Court for “Conspiracy to Defraud the United States” for giving vaccination cards to people who did not receive Covid-19 vaccinations. Her defense is that the vaccinations were ineffective and harmful, and to administer them would violate the Hippocratic oath of health professionals (First do no harm). Her legal battle against a dishonest and vindictive federal government will require lawyer’s fees that exceed her ability to pay — a reminder that “the process is the punishment.”
Kathie has also been accused of “professional misconduct” by the New York State Licensing Board for prescribing Ivermectin via telehealth visits in July 2021. Many other medical practitioners across the United States have been similarly persecuted and some have lost their licenses to practice. Kathie has been under investigation by New York’s Office of Professional Discipline since March 2022. No decision has been reached as of May 2023.

Western Civilization has climbed aboard the Titan and it is now 2/3rds of the way towards the bottom of the ocean with the occupants bolted in and the pilot is steering it with a $30 wireless controller that has a lot of bad reviews on Amazon because it loses its Bluetooth connection quite frequently.
You are inside too and you can swing all you want. Swing away! Pound your chest! Whatever works best for you. The outcome will be the same.

FWIW, I gave up on Clay Travis and Buck Sexton a couple years ago, when Clay not only got Austria and Australia confused, but then rambled on and on about how they’re the same country even after a producer told him off-air that he was wrong. You expect that kind of shit from either a Kenyan by way of Hawaii (who did that kind of thing more than once) or an elderly person whose mind is fading; you dont expect it from a lawyer who’s co-host of the biggest talk show in the country. I was presented with the perfect analogy for our current situation while in the garden the other day. I came across a common garter snake in the course of devouring a toad for its meal. The toad was about a quarter consumed and was just hanging out blinking its eyes and doing it’s throat thing while slowly slipping further into the snake. Seemingly and apparently very unconcerned as its legs disappeared.
I had no desire to watch the whole process and maybe that toad was a true stoic and accepting of being turned into dinner as a matter of course. The American public goes about their business seemingly unconcerned as well. Not stoic but not wanting the flow of ordinary life disrupted. Too late. Many I know say oh well, nothing I can do. Maybe we’ll struggle when nearing the end but the nights of sitting on a lily pad and sucking down flies will be gone.

Russia’s the largest State in the world, with lots of energy, resources and industrial mass-production capabilities. Common sense would seem to suggest that if they can produce missiles, then they can probably produce replacement parts for them without having to pirate washing machines for parts unless there’s some reason that doesn’t include desperation. But what do I know?
Common sense would also seem to suggest that many legacy MSM outlets are full of ‘kids’ who graduated from journalism (or somesuch or related specialty) school relatively recently and so have relatively limited real world experience, knowledge or informed opinions, except what they are told, like from a teleprompter and/or an owner/director with vested interests, inspired by their funders, advertisers, shareholders and political views.
The White House knew what happened to the sub on Sunday, and used it as a convenient distraction from the Hunter issues.
Not that the media was going to cover any of that anyway.

And, the WH appears to have entangled the US Navy in covering its (the WH’s) ass via its (Navy’s) ex post facto statement that the evidence wasn’t reliable enough to warrant mentioning.

He is not stupid. Jr. can speak against the power structure and be heard, he is being well covered by the MSM, while other voices are silenced.
What Jr. is saying has been said by CFN members…common sense. Nothing unusual, save the fact that he is not receiving the same lack of attention as are others.

But for him to replace Biden now, they’d have to get rid of Harris, then have Biden pick RFK2 and not some other ambitious commu– I mean Democrat to replace her. Congress would have to confirm the new Veep — all while Bribetaker Joe is still in office. Then, they’d have to either impeach and convict the crook or remove him via the 25th Amendment, neither of which is very popular with the Dems because, as we all know, they’re sinless and blameless in the sinking of America, which I know this because both they and their mediot handmaidens say so.

How many millions of taxpayer dollars were spent on a wild goose chase while knowing the goose was already cooked?

The billionaire’s company or family should pay the costs to the US taxpayer of this pointless search mobilization by the Coast Guard, and any other agencies involved in the “fake search.”
Titanium and carbon fiber would seem to have different properties, perhaps especially under extreme conditions. And their differences, if combined to form a sub, would seem to create increasing differences until there were enough differences to allow water to enter.

Back when I had a composites manufacturing business in Seattle one of my acquaintances invited me to tour their CNC mold tooling facility. We happened to walk through their black room where the molds for the Boeing 777 fuselage were being autoclaved. As I walked by them I knew instantly that the parts built from them would not fit—because I had made exactly the same mistake myself.
The first prototype 777 set Boeing back a year and cost billions from precisely the same problem—which stems from the fact that metals and carbon fiber have different expansion rates under extreme conditions.
No amount of money and BS is a substitute for common sense and experience.

The Titan story was strung out until a few days had passed after Hunter’s plea deal was announced. I don’t know how anyone with any brains at all can’t see the double-dealing with this administration.
Speaking of what the media’s going to cover, when trans-men break the law they’re referred to as cross-dressers or “men in drag.” Let’s see how widely this is reported:

SW I saw this the other day but can’t remember where. It brought to mind the recent scandal in Atlanta about a well to do male guy couple pimping out their adopted young boys. Such a sad story knowing these criminals prey upon neglected low income children.
There is not enough rope in the world but I would consider flamenwerfer as a good alternative.
What made that story even more egregious is that the adopted boys were described as handicapped. And besides pimping the boys out to other faggots they were molesting the boys themselves.
Here’s to hoping these two gentlemen are properly dealt with by their fellow inmates inside the Georgia State Prison System. Prisoners don’t look kindly on Child Molesters.

Has anyone seen the submersible? I mean seen it.
An RV drone has found it in pieces not far from the Titanic. It’s assumed that the Sub decompressed and was crushed like a coke can. At that depth the sea is unforgiving. There is no room for mistakes and failure is not an option. If you decide to go down to a depth like that you had better have all your ducks in a row and a very quick action Plan B if something should go wrong. Otherwise you’re just flirting with Davy Jones.

Then, for over 50 years, until 2012, NO ONE duplicated this very difficult feat.

Jim’s quote brought back memories of something I’d read about during the heyday of the “Steal” claims.

This reminds me so much of an article written by a forensic accountant who had investigated, on his own dime, the claims that the 2020 election was stolen. First he explained that all elections have errors and inaccuracies. This happens and will always happen. It is proof of nothing. Then he went through a twenty point list of the major irregularities that he uncovered. The reason he was so adamant that the election had been stolen from Trump is that every single irregularity FAVORED BIDEN. And that, is a statistical impossibility. Honest mistakes will sometimes favor one candidate and sometimes favor the other. What he uncovered was so consistently one sided, he knew the fix was in. And this was a man who claimed to be apolitical I just wish I could remember his name.

The Constitution of 1788 was overthrown when Abraham Lincoln basically told a bunch of sovereign states that they could not secede and then unleashed General Sherman to punish them and their citizens daring to secede. At that time the States’ rights of the Constitution disappeared overthrowing the critical balance of power between the States and the Federal and destroyed the “union.” Wiping out everything our Founding Fathers compromised for.
It was officially sealed when the Senate became no longer selected by the State Legislatures and became nothing more than a glorified House of Representatives.
The country was founded on a compromise that shared power between the States, the Federal Government and the people. The States lost their power after Lincoln. The people lost their power with Woodrow Wilson and the advent of the income tax and property taxes. The Federal Government has all the power now.
So what do we do about? Got me. Vote? My ass. Contact my congressman? My ass. Get my gun and march on Washington? My ass. So what do I do? The only thing I can do. Try to correct my personal deficiencies and be a better person than I was and hope everyone else tries to do the same thing.

Good stuff. There are so many great Southern historians and writers. If you are interested, look at the Abbeville Institute website. There is a trove of wonderful essays, books, podcasts, etc. exploring all manner of Southern history and culture. Donald Livingston founded Abbeville and just stepped aside last year (he is in his 80’s.) Brion McLanahan is now the director and is doing a great job. McLanahan is the last PHD student of Clyde Wilson. Wilson, still alive and in is mid-80’s was the founder of Southern Partisan magazine and was responsible to the collected works of John C. Calhoun. Wilson was a professor of political science at South Carolina for many years. Wilson also founded Shotwell Publishing which is a prolific publishing company releasing all sorts of books about Southern history, culture, cuisines, music, etc.

I was in a prominent grocery store with my son a few days ago and he and I were playing a game of “count the thin people.” There weren’t that many. In the last 50 years most of the food we eat is loaded with chemicals that our bodies in no way have adapted to. The water we drink is full of prescription meds that can’t be purified out (hormones, antidepressants) and most importantly, cows, pigs, chicken have been pumped full of antibiotics. 70% of all antibiotics used in the US are for animals. Antibiotic use is known to cause obesity as are hormones and all psychotropic drugs.
I know that’s not the whole story by any means but people eat cheap food, or fast food or easy to fix food. It’s out of control but I do get your point about their choice of clothing and lack of modesty or common sense.
My son’s 4th grade class was assigned a science experiment.
One of his classmate’s father was a pig farmer, so she took two baby pigs, and gave one antibiotics, and the other one none.
It was actually pretty amazing. The antibiotic-fed pig was twice as big as the other one.
I guess antibiotics cause obesity in pigs, also.

Three weeks ago, chaperoning a four-day high school graduation Bahamas cruise for one of my sons and five of his friends, I was stunned by the shape of the majority of the people.
Shocking actually, but it finally dawned on me, this was not a representation of the general population. These people go on cruises, precisely for what the cruise offers; two things – 1) sitting on a chaise lounge by the pool, and 2) chowing down at the all-you-can-eat buffets – breakfast, brunch, lunch, snacks & dinner.

Barr in particular was in deep from the get-go from what I’ve read about him from different sources. Including telling Bill Clinton while still Governor of Arkansas that those in D.C. had their eyes on him for the White House if he didn’t have any more fuck-ups that his brother Roger had perpetrated via his own coke / alcohol habit. The books and interviews by Prouty were real eye-openers for me, he being witness to the OSS to CIA transition as the military liaison between the CIA and the President, his office in the White House. A thoroughly fascinating man, a real-life Forrest Gump (but exceptionally brainy) with all of his WW II background including participating in the wartime conferences in Tehran and Yalta. Another was a FB friend Robert “Tosh” Plumlee, a Company pilot who ran guns to both Batista and Castro under the Agency’s auspices. Lots of trips to Nicaragua, etc, too. He was heartbroken about what happened to Lee Oswald.
Whitney Webb did a helluva job tracing the path of the powerful in her series on the Jewish Mob and FBI and then put her various series in a two volume book “One Nation Under Backmail” which is a real barnburner, albeit exhaustive for details. It’s on Amazon.
A final note, I have a friend whose both parents were in from OSS to the Dulles years, and were living in fear for all of the things they knew. They were relieved to get out of there, but never quite shook the feeling that Dulles’s tentacles were ever near and dangerous.

When I was a freshman in University my roommate was an older guy who had been a crewman on a Trident missile submarine. He told a story about a test launch they had participated in. I’m not so gloomy as the rest of you. Obviously, plenty of bad things are going to happen before the dust settles. I’m sure that Martin Armstrong is right, and that the U.S. as we’ve known it will be a memory after around 2032.
In the meantime, there are many reasons why things can’t go on as they have been, nor should they. We’re too corrupt and degraded for recovery, and the public displays of lunacy we’ve seen in the last year have ramped up to the point of no return. Something will put a stop to it; it’s just a question of what that something will be, and how ugly it will get.
Amid all this, there are many pockets of sanity such as can be found in the remote, rural place where I find myself. There are people who grow things, people who make things, people who are neighborly. These people will rebuild the world, as they always have done in the past.
Nothing we make in the material world lasts forever. Right now we’re making chaos and ruination. Keep in mind that we can build and create indefinitely, as evinced by the great cathedrals built over centuries, but chaos and insanity have a limited life span. As the madness winds down and consumes itself, many if not most of its proponents will bring about their own demise.

I used to have to cover my water glass to keep the bugs out, and shut the doors as soon as possible, but now there are no bugs in my water and I can go outside and leave the door open for a couple of minutes till I come back in.
Only 3 swallows returned to my house this year, and there is only one nest, instead of 5 or 6.

Interesting, Paula, because where I am there’s a great increase in some insects, notably blackflies and ticks. I had a conversation with someone a few days ago who had taken a summer job clearing underbrush on a wood lot. He remarked that, as a kid, he might have gotten one tick on him every summer – sometimes none. He had been in the hospital emergency room the previous week to have 23 ticks removed. The blackflies have been so bad this year that even those who usually ignore them are running full tilt between the house and the barn. Watering the garden, if you stand still for more than a nanosecond, is an invitation to bring ticks into the house. On the other hand, my hummingbirds are back as they are every year, and seem quite happy. Who knows what to make of any of this?
I don’t think black flies and ticks pollinate anything;
When the beach plums bushes were covered with blooms a couple of weeks ago, they should have been crawling with multiple species of native bees and other insects. But there was nary an insect to be seen. Beach plums seem to be self-pollinators, as I do see small green fruit starting to form.
But other anecdotal evidence is that dearth of pollinators has resulted in fruit on fruit trees not forming.
A flower bed on our property is planted with alyssum. It has a wonderful scent and should be attracting insects. But there are none to be seen.
There are no screens in my windows, and so far there are NO insects in my digs except for one or two house flies. . This is the month for June bugs. Normally they would be buzzing around outdoor lights, and occasionally one would end up inside, buzzing and driving one nuts. This year I have not seen a single June bug. Not one. This is definitely weird, and bad news.
We have a lot of ticks as well, although they seem to be leveling off in the heat. They are actually arachnids, not insects, although the spiders seem to be dying off also.
I don’t miss the mosquitoes, but I notice there are fewer of them also.
Yeah, what to make of it. I tend to be a pessimist, so I think it’s a bad sign.

There has been an immense decline in insect numbers since I was a kid in the 50s, for sure. Back then a 20-30-mile drive in the country meant the car’s windshield and grid would be covered with bugs of all kinds, but that has not been the case for decades.
Since then–say, for the past twenty years of living in the country–I haven’t seen a difference, though most of those years were spent living in a lake community where lawn chemicals were not a thing (to say the least). But it’s the same where I am now. We have plenty of insects, birds, and other wildlife. Though I do remember that when my daughter and her husband bought this property, and it had been sitting vacant for some time, we were enveloped in a cloud of butterflies every time we drove down the driveway. That was because no one had done any mowing for a year or two. Ticks, too, are always bad in unmowed areas. (That’s the main reason people mow.)
One thing that has changed–twice–over the years is kids getting head lice. When my kids were in grade school, there were frequent epidemics of head lice. For those who haven’t experienced this, ridding children of head lice and nits involves treating their hair with either RID or some other substance, and then spending several hours a day, for a week or two, picking nits.
I once commented to the school nurse, as she was inspecting one of my kids’ hair before re-admitting her to school, why head lice were unheard-of when I was a kid in the 1950s. Children never got head lice back then. The school nurse replied, “They outlawed DDT.” So, ever since DDT was outlawed there has been a gradual resurgence of head lice, leading to constant epidemics of the little critters by the 90s. (Head lice do not usually infest adults, or even kids in their teens, but only younger children. They also do not infest blacks, as their hair is inhospitable to head lice.)
Bedbugs have also become quite a problem in recent years, and I understand they are very difficult to get rid of. (An exterminator friend tells me he can get rid of them, but I have heard of people who were troubled by them, even after the visit from the exterminator.)
I’m in favor of the judicious use of insecticides–such as for the wasp nest on your front porch. I think the main problem is agricultural pesticides and herbicides.
Yes, Ant – the gas chambers – the real ones, such as they were (large closet size) were for the delousing of clothes.
I agree that we’ve treated the planet worse than a teenager trashing their bedroom. Not just irresponsible, but insanely and deliberately wrong.

Because, I can’t help but feel that the damage that Putin had done to his reputation as “Undisputed Mighty Man” was a lot greater than the $6 billion you think P got offered, and shared with Putin. The political instability on display yesterday is surely going to be embraced by the average Russian who is wondering WTF is going on. As a Russian citizen, I would be especially impressed by the ability of a column of troops who owe their allegiance to a declared “traitor” (well, at least for a little while…) to take over a city in my country AND another to travel mostly unmolested through the country.

I see no indication of Russian political instability. To me, what this little drama indicates is that the US/NATO attempted a coup/color revolution by means of a $6 billion bribe to Prigozhin. It didn’t work out as planned. One may only speculate as to why it didn’t work out. This failed coup/color revolution attempt is more of an indication of Russian political stability than the reverse. This outcome makes them stronger, too: They’ve flushed out the disloyal. And Putin’s handling of the whole thing presents him in a good light. He successfully defused the problem, handled the whole thing in a measured way, and treated all those involved–including Prigozhin–magnanimously. I personally think Prigozhin was in on it, but, regardless of whether that’s true or not, Putin still comes out smelling like a rose.

No sympathy from me on that one. Putin did not have to do as you suggested he “had to” in 2022–the stalemate could have gone on for a lot longer before those consequences. The West was not really supporting Ukraine–Russia gave it “plausible deniability,” to downplay Russia’s active involvement after 2014 in D & L. The mentioned consequences you offer did not happen prior to 2022, so why the urgency you suggest in 2022? I don’t think China has the option of turning back at this point. To capitulate to US neo-con demands would be to resign themselves to being a vassal state again, and they’re simply not going to do that absent a major sweetener (such as maybe the US will be the vassal state?). As for Putin’s alleged “insurrection,” I think we’re going to find out this was all just another vastly embellished US deep state deep fake. Prigozhin sounds like a reckless, power hungry, drunk if we’re to believe western news accounts. The whole thing smells manufactured. But it could well be used as a casus belli for US/NATO to widen the war if that’s the play. Which would indicate to me that the Pentagon and/or the pols who command them realize that they’re running out of time to have any effect at all on the situation.
Anglin on the putative coup:
Apparently – at least, as far as anyone can tell – Prigozhin’s agenda here is only to capture and hold the military base in Rostov and force Putin to make him Minister of Defense. He is not actually trying to overthrow the government.
To be clear, Prigozhin is the second most popular person in Russia, second only to Putin.
As of right now, as I write, Putin has just given a speech declaring Prigozhin an enemy of the state.
There are tanks on the streets of Moscow for the first time since the 1990s.
Preceding this, in the nighttime on Friday, Prigozhin accused the Russian Ministry of Defense of bombing his guys. There are no videos of this, and it’s been concluded that is obviously fake. It would not make any sense. If Putin wanted Prigozhin out, he would just be assassinated. And if the MoD bombed Wagner without Putin’s permission, the head of the MoD would get assassinated (or at least arrested).
He is reporting that, and the New York Times is reporting that – Russian media hasn’t said that.
I never publicly said that I was worried about a coup, because that did not seem appropriate. But several people can confirm I said this in private, including prominent people. I mean, obviously I would have thought that, because I have a very good sense.
However… I would not have thought it would happen like this. Wagner would need a bigger force, or at least a more strategic ability to strike the Kremlin and arrest the current government. There are scenarios I can see where that would have been possible some time in the next 18 months, but this thing they are doing now is just wild.
It seems to me that there is still a possibility that this is all fake, that it is designed in order to get the Ukraine to try to push. The Putin speech definitely makes that a lot less likely. I think most likely, this is really happening, and it is a pretty big problem.
I’m not sure if Putin can just make a deal with Prigozhin if he’s already killed Russian soldiers. I think that might be a point of no return. (But it is also not clear that happened.)
That said – how is it possible that Putin would not have a guy around Prigozhin ready to kill him if given the order? You’d think he’d have to have a guy in place, right? I would think that would be standard KGB procedure regardless, let alone after he’d made all those videos attacking the military, after I was sitting here thinking “that guy looks like he’s planning a coup” – right?
There is nothing clear right now, but the Russian media is reporting all of this, Putin is giving speeches, we have videos of shootings.
Prigozhin might be on drugs or drunk. I don’t understand why else he would move like this. In my view, previously, he did have a decent chance for some kind of march on the Kremlin, but there is no way he is going to march from Rostov with 20,000 men. I mean, he doesn’t have enough guys to fight the cops, and he’s not made any overtures towards the military or the cops to side with him against Putin.

My general thought here is that this is real, but that Putin is going to make a deal. It’s also possible Putin knew about this or planned it himself for some reason.

20,000 men isn’t enough to over throw Russia.
Anglin is staying open to all sides of it at this point, but as he said, I don’t see how he can make Prigozhin head of the military now that blood has been shed – even if he wanted to.

I agree that this is all unclear right now, but 20,000 troops is a lot if we remember that they are nominally “on your side” and able to move quickly as a consequence, they are a strike force with a lot of resources and experience, and in a situation when there is no real mobile reserve that the Russian establishment can call on to provide counter-vailing power because the Ukrainians are pressing and the main phase of their counter-offensive has not started yet. Does he know something about internal stress points within the current Russian defence that points to real danger for Russian forces in Ukraine? If so, it could be that P.’s timing is exquisite–maximum leverage is right now. The idea of cutting a deal sounds very possible given the situation. The only thing that works against that is that Putin labelled him an “enemy of the state.” But it wouldn’t be the first time that words are used to try and apply counter-leverage in negotiations… Negotiation, Russian style?

This whole incident – apparently settled now – smells mighty fishy. Something about it just doesn’t seem right.
This is a fascinating chess match being played out by Prigozhin and Putin. My feeling is that Prigozhin wants the whole kit and caboodle. But the pathway is not yet open. So, what deal of convenience did they make I wonder? It is going to be an interesting Summer in Eastern Europe!
Anglin is so smart. As i type to you it sounds like a deal has been made and Prigohzhin will be sent to Belarus but will be left unharmed for his treason and his troops will also not be harmed but they will no longer be able to serve in military operations. Sounds like a bunch of big egos in too little space if you ask me but what do I know lol.
