The selfie-video made by New Zealand shooter Brent Tarrant shows the world once again how shockingly banal an act of mass homicide can be. He went through the various chambers of two mosques in suburban Christchurch exterminating unarmed, helpless worshippers as if they were mere points to be racked up in a video game. They had no personalities or histories. They were just targets. And when they moaned or moved, he shot them again to make sure they were out of the game. The shooter was arrested and lives on in police custody.

He went about his task with exactly the sort of paramilitary efficiency that is portrayed so admiringly in the Mission Impossible or Fast and Furious movies, all business, no emotion. The manifesto he left on the Internet shows his clear and detailed motive for what he didn’t hesitate to label as “a terrorist attack.” He was especially interested in provoking a fresh debate over the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution in the USA, in the hopes of provoking a civil war that would break-up the nation into warring regions divided by race. He calls himself “an eco-nationalist” because he considers overpopulation the leading threat to the planet and non-Europeans to be the most fecund and therefore responsible for the problem. He will go on trial and he says he intends to plead innocent. You’d better take him seriously.

At least half the political class in the USA doesn’t take the immigration issue seriously, except as a gambit for what they think is political advantage. The Left is doing everything possible to confound the issue and muddle it with litigation at every level, from local law enforcement to congress, starting with the longstanding effort to garble the definitions of legal versus illegal immigration. The “conservative” Right doesn’t dare call them on it, out of fear of losing Hispanic votes. So, it is left to the awkward, inflammatory figure of Mr. Trump to demand clarification about what official policy will be, including the enforcement of existing laws, and he has been reviled for it all along the way. He’s not a consensus-builder, to put it mildly.

Last week, coincidental with the New Zealand mosque massacre, Mr. Trump said the following:

“You know, the left plays a tougher game. It’s very funny. I actually think that the people on the right are tougher, but they don’t play it tougher. O.K.? I can tell you I have the support of the police, the support of the military, the support of the Bikers for Trump. I have the tough people, but they don’t play it tough — until they go to a certain point, and then it would be very bad, very bad.”

As usual, his syntax is disastrous as well as his habit of placing himself at the center of every issue. But, also as usual with Mr. Trump, and because of his filter-less tongue, he lays out matters that should be extremely troubling to all Americans: that the land is full of men with tremendous potential for violence — and most particularly men with military and paramilitary training in killing and warfare, who have, so far, barely expressed in action their discontent with the tactics of their adversaries on the Left. This Pandora’s box of calamity includes the Left’s recent campaign to denigrate men as toxic and without value, especially white men wearing their scarlet letter “P” for privilege.

The Left had better sober up and join an intelligible good faith debate about US immigration policy and the enforcement of existing laws or this will lead to exactly what Brent Tarrant laid out and what Mr. Trump maladroitly hinted at. Instead, of course, we will more likely commence another bootless campaign over guns. Here are some plain facts about that. There are already enough firearms of every sort loose in this land to commence hot civil warfare and they will not be surrendered by their owners. The horses are out of the barn on that one, even if sales of military-style weapons are outlawed. Any effort to confiscate them from people already possessing them will only provoke more overt antagonism between the two poles of American politics — and would probably lead to exactly the sort of violence that sober observers discern on the horizon.

Our battered American common culture and its expression in political consensus ought to start with the foundation of the social contract: the agreement to not slaughter each other. That is, at least, the one principle that ought to stand on its own as self-evident, without any need for equivocation via “diversity” arguments. The Left is playing with fire on this with its dishonest, bad faith approach to debating the immigration question, and the gun debate will only provide a distraction from it.

I hope that everyone had a good St Patricks Day.

The media is having a field day over the 2 actresses [+48 others] facing federal charges over ‘cheating.’ and the NZ killings.

    Meanwhile, as someone here noted,
In the last three weeks over 130 Coptic Christians have been massacred in Nigeria and not one word of this has been reported by the LSM.
Why the outrage for one religious groups deaths and not for the other groups death?

    • Neon Vincent March 18, 2019 at 10:33 am #

Thank you, I had a quiet St. Patrick’s Day, which I celebrated by posting an entry about food, drink, and dance for St. Patrick’s Day in Detroit. I hope the rest of the readers here also had a happy St. Patrick’s Day.

On a more serious note, thousands of U.S. students held a strike for the climate on Friday. It actually made me hopeful about the future.

      • malthuss March 18, 2019 at 10:34 am #

Yes, I am aware of the ‘Climate Strike’–foolish young folks.

        • CancelMyCard March 18, 2019 at 11:24 am #

          Malthuss,

Why do you consider them to be foolish?

          • malthuss March 18, 2019 at 12:07 pm #

Because they believe the mainstream news.
they believe in the democrats, the Dreamers, that diversity is our strength, etc.

They are too young to have experienced a 1970, 90% white, normal USA.
No multi cult, no multi lingual, no homeless [a few hobos and winos] etc.

Then 1 man worked 40 hours to provide for a wife and 2-3 children, at a middle class life and the only debt was a mortgage, yes?

          • gonetohell March 21, 2019 at 10:37 am #

Maybe someone should inform, or re-inform at least, J. Kunstler that the social contract of not slaughtering each other was broken about 150 years ago. That was When Republican Abe Lincoln decided to declare war on one half the nation, exterminating around five hundred thousand fellow Americans in the process. Of course he did it under the moral pretext of every man being equal, not his strong intention to teach individual states they belong to the union.
Kunstler is and old white man who now presents one-sided arguments for your consideration. In other words, he’s Fox News.

        • fineline March 18, 2019 at 3:32 pm #

You may be thinking of the 1950;s. By the time the 70; came along, that white world was already fading from the landscape.

Why is it every time a story is reported, some ahole from somewhere finds a story that was not reported and then blames the MSM for not reporting that story. Who the hell would watch that much news anyway? If you choose from the multiple sources available, you could make that case every day.

          • libertysghost March 19, 2019 at 10:15 am #

You confuse the point…and that is that the legacy media’s options for publishing such stories is practically infinite as they could even just re-post the stories from the wires or from other pubs. But they don’t.

You don’t find that telling whatsoever? You don’t find the tendencies of what is published and what is not a hint at any sort of an agenda? You don’t think that the legacy/MSM could just as easily make a “crisis” out of any such mass killing they choose and get a sizable portion of the dolts to chant in unison for “action”? To offer them such excuses for their selective editorial choices is either wishful or naive.

      • njguy73 March 18, 2019 at 2:40 pm #

Neon Vincent – you think any on those strikers will decide not to fly in a plane ever again? Or decide not to go to college an instead live on a permaculture site?

      • elysianfield March 18, 2019 at 5:21 pm #

It actually made me hopeful about the future.

        Neon,
I believe that you know better.

Strike for the Climate? Why not strike for No More Wars. Putting a few tens of thousands of ignorant twits on the street will solve neither issue.

I for one have been pointing this out tirelessly to whoever would listen to me. Don’t forget the churches being destroyed and Coptic Christians assaulted in Egypt as well.

      • Ol' Scratch March 18, 2019 at 10:48 am #

Hint: it’s not about who get’s assaulted, it’s that someone gets assaulted. There’s a bigger game being played here.

        • Farmer Joe March 18, 2019 at 11:42 am #

I disagree, Scratch. I think the narrative that is being promoted by the msm is, “white men are evil, racist, oppressors who need to have their guns and power stripped from them.” The murder of Christians by black Africans doesn’t fit that narrative, and so doesn’t get coverage.

Maybe I am just a paranoid conspiracy theorist. Time will tell.

          • Ol' Scratch March 18, 2019 at 11:54 am #

That’s the American MSM, and it plays very well here indeed. But of course the world is much bigger than that and there are many other populations to be influenced out there too. It’s not that you’re “just” a “paranoid conspiracy theorist.” It’s that your conspiracy theory isn’t nearly comprehensive enough. Globalism is all about smashing the will of nation states at this particular point in time, so racial and ethnic vilification is location sensitive. It’s a very fluid strategy in that sense.

          • Farmer Joe March 18, 2019 at 11:59 am #

            That’s fair.

          • Janos Skorenzy March 18, 2019 at 12:46 pm #

Wow Scratch, despite our best efforts you still don’t get it. The assault on the dignity, nay the very existence of the White Man, is under assault everywhere he lives.

This IS the Big Agenda or at least a fundamental part of it. The Global Elite intend to take down Western Civilization for starters. And unlike their dupes, they know that that can’t be separated from the people who created it – namely the White Race.

          • K-Dog March 18, 2019 at 1:15 pm #

Maybe the acts of deranged nutball copycats should be seen for the pointless acts they are. Everyone is so busy trying to attach meaning and tying this New Zealand tragedy to American issues they inadvertently honor this criminal madness. Pointless madness that was the product of a sick mind following sick messages because that is what people do.

            Follow.

I alluded to as much here.

          • Ol' Scratch March 18, 2019 at 1:39 pm #

Of course. Western Civilization is where the money and power resides, for now. Others will get and are getting there’s too. It won’t stop with the “Great White Race.” Anything or anyone that gets in the way will eventually be taken down by the same method. It’s called The War of All Against All, and it’s a brilliant strategy.

Believe me, I “get it” alright.

          • BackRowHeckler March 18, 2019 at 2:24 pm #

“The war of all against all” — Old Scratch

            OS, nothing new here.

Thomas Hobbes wrote of the war of All against all in his political tone ‘The Leviathan’ (1650s) after witnessing the English Civil War and the brutal 30 Years War in Central Europe.

You obviously have not been watching MSM. Most likely you have been listening to those who tell you what the MSM is saying and what to think about it.

          • Ol' Scratch March 18, 2019 at 3:48 pm #

            BRH,

True, the strategy’s been around for quite some time. The implementation’s been advanced by leaps and bounds lately, however. But either way, it never fails to ensnare each new generation it’s deployed on. Humans are “funny” that way.

      • BackRowHeckler March 18, 2019 at 12:45 pm #

I have to admit, when I read about Ebba Akerlund’s murder in Sweden I was upset too: 11 year handicapped old Swedish girl walking to meet her mother after school deliberately run down by a muzzie in a stolen beer truck, her little body cut in half. And the Swedish govt hardly even acknowledged her death, like they could give a f-k less. Then when the police went to arrest this scumbag in the Muslim neighborhood in Stockholm where he lived they were driven out by organized armed resistance.

Now I read Ebba’s grave is routinely vandalized by illegals from Africa in the Middle East.

Hows that make you feel, CFNers?

        Brh

        • Janos Skorenzy March 18, 2019 at 12:49 pm #

Yes. And what we should be saying to the Muslims is “How do you like it? Fuck their hypocrisy: they attack Churches and the Mosques of the Shia all the time. Synagogues when they can’t get them too.

Future Crusaders should carry her image with them into battle. A little girl Saint. This is how it’s done. This is how our deep psyches work. How do I know? Because that’s what worked before.

Do you care how her family feels?

          thedailybeast.com/new-zealand-shooting-who-was-ebba-akerlund-whose-death-mosque-shooter-used-as-pret…

‘Her father, Stefan Åkerlund, told the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that he was mortified when he saw how the latest terrorist had used his daughter’s name. “I broke into a cold sweat as soon as I saw that he had rifles with my daughter’s name,” he said. “How in hell can we ever get to mourn in peace?” ‘

‘Since Ebba’s death, she has become a fixture on websites that traffic in hate speech. Her name is regularly invoked in the depths of the deep web, on sites like 8Chan and in white-supremacist anti-immigrant rants.’

‘Ebba’s mother, Jeanette Åkerlund, also spoke out. “It gives you chills,” she told Aftonbladet. “It is deeply tragic that Ebba’s name is abused in political propaganda.” ‘

So, any chance of her family being left in peace and not having their daughter’s memory abused by alt-right propagandists?

      • Majella March 18, 2019 at 5:45 pm #

Just for the record, the shooter in Christchurch was Australian, not a New Zealander – not that makes any difference.

Here’s why he went to New Zealand to do this terrible thing…

In the wake of the Port Arthur massacre on 1996, which was the last of a dozen similar mass shootings in the previous couple of years, the Australian Federal Government put an outright BAN on military-style semi-automatic & automatic weapons.

It took the Parliament a mere 12 days after that massacre to enact the legislation.

Over the next 18 months or so, there was an amnesty for people owning now-illegal weapons to surrender them (for which they were fully compensated financially). The whole cache was collected and publically smelted into a lump of metal & plastics.

They also set up a comprehensive register of both gun owners & guns, so they know how many guns (at least legally) reside in Australia, where they are and who is responsible for them.

New Zealand’s right-leaning government of the time, never having experienced such an event before, declined to join with Australia in that action. I’m betting they regret it now (if politicians ever allow themselves to feel emotions like regret).

It was a fecking AR15 that this lunatic used last Friday – who’d have thunk it?

So, he couldn’t have gotten away with it in Australia – couldn’t have got hold of such a weapon, and would have been confronted by armed police within minutes of starting his heinous rampage.

The current NZ government has announced that there will be major changes to gun laws and it is expected to take only a couple of weeks to enact – the banning of semi-automatic military-style arms (fully automatic weapons are illegal outside the police & armed forces).

Oh, and he stated plainly in his Twitter-published ‘manifesto’ that he loves & admires Trump – any surprise there?

    • Luhrenloup March 18, 2019 at 6:08 pm #

Christians always seem to have been one group that can be singled out and attacked without much of a backlash from anybody defending them, at least from what I have seen. There are many even here that choose to bash them at every turn without challenge. I am unaware of the term Christianophobe, how about you?

    • S M Tenneshaw March 19, 2019 at 2:20 pm #

As you said, the MSM just isn’t covering the Nigerian slaughter. But reportage is available at The Christian Post: christianpost.com/news/120-people-killed-140-homes-destroyed-by-nigeria-fulani-since-february.html

I pretty much lost interest after the first two articles. WAY too ethereal for me, but maybe the Mountain Finc would go in for this sort of thing. I did like the quotes, however:

“Secular reason tends to objectify, thus overly narrowing its scope. A person of faith tends toward superstition, thus overly expanding their scope. Both may benefit from an awareness of the other’s flaws as a way of appreciating their own.” Cal Billings

“The mythos of science creates the comforting image of a linear progression toward truth. This narrative is the functional equivalent of religion, with the proviso that it manifests a staggering motivational deficit in the moral realm.” Cal Billings

“Academentia can be defined as the distorting influence on perception and intuition that results from sustained interaction with other academics.” Cal Billings

In maladroit dogmatizations across the land from the Orange Cheeto on down, writers and bloggers claimed the twisted helter skelter of the madman as their own.

“. . . . . the foundation of the social contract . . . . ” Yes, indeed, that would be the place to start because, there, you’re talking about one of the bases of culture. But for that foundational aspect of our common culture to work, there must be the values and norms that are taught and believed by the populace and that is not happening. The populace has reached the point of not agreeing on much of anything except, what is my personal interest in the thing before me. The filters that would mitigate this selfishness are now missing; family, church, school, neighborhood, economy. In order for social contract to mean anything again, those institutions must be rebuilt and I don’t see that happening.

    • TPTB-USA March 18, 2019 at 11:23 am #

“In order for social contract to mean anything again, those institutions must be rebuilt and I don’t see that happening.”

I think something on the order of a Civil War in reverse ought to do the trick.

Towards the end of the war, the polarization will moderate, and people will migrate back to rebuilding the institutions you list. But it won’t happen until the two sides are willing to accept something as ludicrous as this:

I am just a pacifist observer, but what I am observing is a population that is becoming polarized to the extreme.

My thoughts are that both extremes will need to suffer crushing hardship prior to any kind of amicable reconciliation, and generally speaking, the US population does not know what “tough” is, and from that perspective, events have barely started to bloom.

Because that’s what worked before.

          thedailybeast.com/new-zealand-shooting-who-was-ebba-akerlund-whose-death-mosque-shooter-used-as-pret…

Christians always seem to have been one group that can be singled out and attacked without much of a backlash from anybody defending them, at least from what I have seen. There are many even here that choose to bash them at every turn without challenge. I am unaware of the term Christianophobe, how about you?

““dogmatizes like an infallible pope”. I think I’ll use it in a sentence. Nice word. Woof.

In maladroit dogmatizations across the land from the Orange Cheeto on down, writers and bloggers claimed the twisted helter skelter of the madman as their own.

Determined to maintain narrow world views dogmatization replaced facts from sea to sea.

“. . . . . the foundation of the social contract . . .
