As I was leaving Detroit very early Sunday morning to catch a plane, I saw the breaking story about a “shooting incident” in an Orlando nightclub, but the first reports did not detail any fatalities. Only after we landed was the shocking news of 50 dead and as many wounded revealed on the concourse TV screens.

Just in the past six months: December, 137 dead at the Paris Bataclan Theater (and two other sites); March, 35 dead at the Brussels airport; now the massacre at the Orlando Pulse Club. Before that, San Bernardino, The Madrid train bombing, the London Subway bombings… not to mention the videotaped beheadings of sundry Western journalists and other non-combatants… or the foundational outrage of 9/11.  It gets more difficult for the democracies of the West to evade the recognition that a state of war exists between us and Islamic theocracy.

No one knows what to do about it , including, of course, the blowhard Trump. The perp in the Orlando slaughter, Omar Mateen, killed at the scene, was born in New York City, and many of the various European massacre perps were homegrown as well. Good luck trying to deport new wannabes like them. The mood for the moment, as in so many of these tragedies, is the awful combination of rage and impotence.

After many past atrocities, people of the Western nations under attack just sucked it up and moved on with daily life. These recent massacres, though, have stirred up the sleeping demons of Western politics. No sentient observer can fail to notice the extremities of feeling aroused in America’s 2016 election spectacle, which have overtaken dark trends underway for years already around Europe. One can only imagine that the sentiments will only get more extreme, as may the actions that follow

Jesus_Detroit

I was in Detroit last week for the annual congress of the New Urbanists, who hold their meet-up in a different city each year, more or less to keep up with developments around the country. The org was formed in 1993 to challenge the fiasco of suburban sprawl, which was defacing the national geography like some landscape-eating leprosy. The org has been most successful at changing the DNA of property development in hundreds of cities and towns: the laws and zoning codes that for decades made it illegal to build so much as a popsicle stand in America without supplying ten parking spaces. The New Urbanists are responsible in large part for the urban renaissance — not so evenly distributed around the country.

Detroit, of course, is the most extreme case of civic implosion in the USA. In 1950, it was the seventh-richest city in the world. By the turn of this century, it was left for dead and bankrupt. It’s creeping back now by small increments, which may seem like not quite enough, but is actually exactly the scale required for what is coming. The residue of the city’s skyscraper center still stands on Augustus Woodward’s disorienting semi-circular street grid. There’s a grand wish to bring it all back to life, but personally I think that giant office and apartment towers are not on the menu for The Long Emergency. Practically everyone I talked to about this issue thinks my view of the matter is nuts. But I reiterate: skyscrapers and mega-structures are already obsolete (we just don’t know it yet).

Our cities will come back as cities, just not at the scale of comic book gigantism they achieved at the height of the oil age, when Superman was leaping over The Daily Planet headquarters. And remember that most of our cities occupy very important sites, most particularly Detroit on its stretch of river between Great Lakes, on the border of Canada. It’s coming back now by small entrepreneurial gestures, hipster and hippie business start-ups, the “risk oblivious” art shock troops, a cadre of fearless homegrown architects, and some visionary urban designers. The ballparks and casinos have landed downtown, too, like UFOs from a planet of bygone utopian redevelopment fantasies, all crammed into the same sports ghetto where wild drinking and structured parking overwhelms anything like normal city life a few hours a week.

The geographically huge city offers plenty of forsaken small-to-medium buildings, some of them very beautiful and built to last for the ages, that can be bought for almost nothing. There’s an awful lot of empty space between them, and for the moment enterprising gardeners are putting it to use while time bides itself waiting to find out where fate wants to take it.

This website suffered a pretty severe Denial of Service (DoS) attack the past few weeks, culminating in a disabling shut-down last Monday. We don’t know who the culprits are. Readers may know that I boast of being allergic to conspiracy notions, but I can’t help thinking that some of Hillary Clinton’s wealthy friends out in Silicon Valley might have put their geeks and nerds up to the job. Another website unfriendly to the Clintons, Yves Smith’s Naked Capitalism blog, suffered a very similar attack last week. We’ve made some changes to fortify this operation and hope to be back to the familiar layout this Monday, perhaps a little later than the usual 9:30 a.m. posting time. But we’ll be running on the alternative Patreon site too, just in case. Thanks for being patient about this problem.

Do you think the mass shooting in Florida is a terrorist action?

In the US there are shocking massacres/shootings too regularly in public areas and they aren’t all terrorist actions in the way you are trying to form a link in readers minds

    • Neon Vincent June 13, 2016 at 9:41 am #

It depends on what you mean by “terrorist action.” I quoted Northeastern University terrorism expert Max Abrahms who tweeted “Was the #OrlandoNightclubShooting terrorism? Was it a hate crime? Was it a mass shooting? Yes.” If you mean an act of political violence meant to terrorize civilians, yes, of course. If you mean that it was plotted by the Sith Jihad overseas and then fed to the perpetrator, almost certainly no. This looks more like an individual act of homophobic rage by a lone wolf than an attack coordinated overseas. The man had access to far more strategic assets than a nightclub, yet didn’t target them.

As for our host’s visit to Detroit, there has been some progress on making the city more sustainable. The latest is the regional rapid transit plan for Metro Detroit. The city and its suburbs have terrible public transportation and I applaud any effort to improve it.

Are you an idiot? This shooter, Omar Mateen, called into 911 and proclaimed himself killing in the name of ISIS. –JHK

      • orbit7er June 13, 2016 at 10:27 am #

But that is different than a conspiracy or being part of a terrorist organization. It is no different than the lone wolf who killed an abortion Doctor – does that mean all fundamentalist Christians opposed to abortion are suspect?
The real problem is still that anyone, terrorist or not, can so easily get assault weapons in the USA.
Australia banned them years ago and has suffered no more mass massacres…

        democracynow.org/2012/12/18/new_town_to_newtown_how_96

Meanwhile on a far larger scale the Merchants of Death, under both Corporate parties, continue to sell billions of dollars of weapons researched and developed by our US taxpayer dollars as part of the $1 Trillion wasted every year on the endless Wars…
Like the $60 Billion sold to Saudi Arabia by Obama supported by Hillary

        • Sacker of Cities June 13, 2016 at 11:24 am #

The real problem is still that anyone, terrorist or not, can so easily get assault weapons in the USA.

BS — Mexico has strong laws against assault weapons but the place is like a war zone. Europe has strong laws against fire arms, but did that stop various terrorist attacks there using assault rifles.

Please pull your head out of where the sun don’t shine and get yourself to your safe room and hope an assortment of people with automatic weapons do not kick your door down.

I find it interesting that all except one of these mass shooting were carried out by registered Democrats. Is there some message there?

          • Elrond Hubbard June 13, 2016 at 11:25 am #

I dunno, is there? Please be specific.

          • Sacker of Cities June 13, 2016 at 12:22 pm #

How about this. All Democrats should be put on the No Gun list. We just prevented 90% of the mass killings!

          • Frankiti June 14, 2016 at 5:16 pm #

Exactly, in Mexico and Europe only the criminals, corrupt police, police, militants, and terrorists have guns.

        • stelmosfire June 13, 2016 at 11:27 am #

Orbiter, Do you know what an assault weapon is? The ahole had a basic semi-auto rifle (a hog gun) and a pistol from what the news tells me. That’s all. One crazy pointing in one direction at a time. Why one person did not step up and brain him with a chair boggles my mind. Hundreds of people and no one packin’ in Florida is beyond me.

          • elysianfield June 13, 2016 at 11:37 am #

            Saint,
What seems odd to me is the kill/wound ratio in the incident…50 killed/50 wounded. I would expect that kind of results from a Delta or Navy Seal…maybe even a seasoned Marine shooter, but some guy without military training? Could be he was just a “natural”….

          • Janos Skorenzy June 13, 2016 at 11:57 am #

Easy – guns aren’t allowed in the Club. So only bad guys are going to have guns. Understanding this simple logic is beyond Liberals. Apparently, even security had guns. Well, that might start to change now, at least for gay clubs. Gays have some sense of self preservation, even though they are certainly strong advocates, both by word and deed, of civilizational suicide.

I heard Mateen was an armed security guard, contracted to the DHS. Egg on their beard if true and it might explain his skill.

          • Janos Skorenzy June 13, 2016 at 11:58 am #

Correction: even security didn’t have guns

          • Sacker of Cities June 13, 2016 at 12:25 pm #

I found it unbelievable that one person could kill that many people with a semi-automatic weapon and especially a rifle in a close space. See Zero Hedge article referenced below. Many people in the location said there was more than one shooter and they made sounds like automatic weapons. It then makes more sense.

If someone has a knife you run away and if they have a gun you run for them. If you are going to die at least do not do it on your knees.

          • BeerBarrel June 13, 2016 at 1:18 pm #

Can’t carry a gun into an alcohol serving establishment, and gays are pacifists probably cowering. No “Let’s Roll” stories here, folks!

          • messianicdruid June 13, 2016 at 1:39 pm #

If 2% of the people in that club had been carrying concealed (or openly) and were competent, the deaths and injuries would have been at least halved. It may not have happened at all.

          • nclaughlin June 13, 2016 at 3:33 pm #

The police, either through cowardice or bad tactics, choose to handle it as a hostage situation rather than as as an active shooter situation. I would suspect that most of the deaths were the result of bleeding to death during the several hours delay.

          • messianicdruid June 13, 2016 at 4:21 pm #

Is that why the count went from 20 to 49?

        • Elrond Hubbard June 13, 2016 at 12:31 pm #

Item #1: The Orlando shooter legally purchased his assault weapon in the past week.

          insider.foxnews.com/2016/06/12/orlando-nightclub-shooter-legally-purchased-2-guns-last-week-atf-offi…

Item #2: This is how Congress reacted to the last terrorist-motivated mass shooting in the U.S.:

          msnbc.com/msnbc/gop-blocks-bill-stop-terrorists-buying-guns

Guns aren’t actually the problem. The problem is the sick devotion to them that blocks even the most obvious measures to prevent atrocities like this.

          • messianicdruid June 13, 2016 at 1:43 pm #

It is a “sick devotion” to personal safety (and responsibility) which all those who have body – guards and Secret Service escorts share.

          • Elrond Hubbard June 13, 2016 at 7:33 pm #

It’s a sick devotion to violence as means, violence as end, violence as its own rationale — violence as self-licking ice cream cone. Personal safety? Having a gun in the home nearly doubles the risk of dying from a homicide in the home, and men with guns in the home are ten times more likely to die from suicide:

            aje.oxfordjournals.org/content/160/10/929.full

Meanwhile, outside the home, higher gun ownership is associated with more firearm robberies, more firearm assaults and more homicide in general:

            livescience.com/51446-guns-do-not-deter-crime.html

Quote: “We found no support for the hypothesis that owning more guns leads to a drop or a reduction in violent crime,” said study researcher Michael Monuteaux, an epidemiologist and professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. “Instead, we found the opposite.”

Meanwhile, “personal responsibility” is shorthand for a twisted Travis Bickle power fantasy of empowerment through redemptive violence. People who are actually responsible start by informing themselves about how the world works (see the links above, among many others), then govern themselves in ways that will make the world better, not worse.

I’m not arguing against guns themselves. I’m arguing to change hearts and minds. The gun culture is a sickness that needs to end.

          • Exscotticus June 15, 2016 at 1:46 am #

This bill would not have prevented the shooting, as the shooter was not on the terrorist watch list. Moreover, secret lists that deny civil liberties without due process hardly respect this nation’s heritage. Nor does punishing millions of lawful gun owners for the actions of a single individual. Hands and feet are responsible for more homicides by far. Got any bright ideas for that? Preferably one that doesn’t put us all in chains?

          • Elrond Hubbard June 15, 2016 at 11:34 am #

Exscotticus, your reply is vintage paranoid gun-culture nonsense. More guns do not make anyone more safe. More guns make everyone less safe. This has been amply established by actual empirical studies (such as the links I already provided).

Since permeating society with guns to protect people against violence is clearly foolish and accomplishes the exact opposite of the stated intention, the stated intention can’t be the real intention. The real intention, as far as I can tell, is for insecure individuals to salve their insecurity with a totem of manhood.

If you’re a hunter, fine, you need a gun. If you’re a target shooter, fine. If you absolutely insist on having a gun for protection, you should be able to get one within reason. But in all cases you should be required to demonstrate reasonable mastery and responsibility first. The wider context needs to be one that treats access and use of deadly weapons as the exception. Not the rule.

          • Exscotticus June 15, 2016 at 3:16 pm #

Elrond Hubbard gun ownership is a right not a need. You can’t even get this basic concept right. And all this psychobabble about the motivation of gun owners to secure their manhood?! You conveniently ignore all the lawful gun-owning women for whom guns are the greatest equalizer of all. You want to quote facts? Do you know how many women avoid rape and assault because they’re armed? No you don’t. Try 3,600 attempted rapes a day. Why don’t you tell all those women who avoided being victims by owning a gun that they’re all paranoid and insecure in their manhood.

          • Frankiti June 15, 2016 at 8:31 pm #

An atrociously beautiful word. Life is sustained through ouroboros. There is no light without darkness. There is no good without evil. The foolish mind is the problem. The human exceptionalism illusion. You deserve more, expect more, whereas every breath is a gift, a chess move unchallenged ’til checked. You want to change the laws of the universe. A fool will try.

        • Frankiti June 13, 2016 at 4:51 pm #

The real problem is that people have homicidal urgings. Getting rid of guns only means that you have homicidal maniacs with intent. Now that’s a great society! The #1 problem is religion, and the taboo about calling religion, all of it, particularly the crazy middle eastern big 3, for what they are. Until people have the courage to stand up to religion, we are doomed to more and more of this. I’ll keep my gun, but they can seize your bible, koran and talmud… gladly.

        • Dumbedup June 13, 2016 at 6:49 pm #

I agree. But we are far removed from the time when an attack, murder, bombing or other act of hostility had to be planned and organized by an organized Jihadist group to be called terrorism. That moment passed around the time The Patriot Act was passed giving the government the right to call a person a terrorist.

        • chuckyzfr1 June 14, 2016 at 10:11 am #

The terms “assault weapon” and “assault rifle” were invented by the press and entities devoted to gun control. The fact is, civilians have been using semiautomatic rifles and shotguns since the early 1900’s, long before any militaries adopted them. This is just a means to desensitize Americans to the notion of banning certain classes of firearms. Oh and btw, the Orlando shooting was not the largest mass shooting on US soil. Wounded knee holds that dubious honor, and it was carried out by US forces in the process of disarming Native Americans “for their own safety.”

          • bentley12 June 14, 2016 at 2:58 pm #

Please explain to me why a civilian needs a semi-automatic, military grade rifle.

          • Frankiti June 14, 2016 at 5:12 pm #

It’s a rifle that shoots one bullet per trigger squeeze. There is nothing auto about it beyond a spring and gas/piston impingement system. There is nothing military grade about it beyond certain design accoutrements (mounting rails, rail covers, stocks, pistol grips). Gunsexuals get them painted in dusty hues and covered with graphics that make them look cool, but they’re quite simply a 1950’s era weapon with a lot of lipstick. Lawmakers that want gun control, the ones that have half a brain, know this and therefore target high capacity (30 round or more) mags. Anyone with a bit of training can tactical/emergency reload a dry 10 round magazine in seconds, but it’s not ideal from a shooter’s perspective.

Doesn’t solve homicidal people. A few diesel cans and a match would have accomplished the same.

Why does a civilian need a Picasso, or a solid gold butt-plug?

            elysianfield:

            Asking the wrong question.

Why does a man want to kill homosexual club goers?

Why does he want to give his life for the death of them?

            Is it the gun?

Is it the repressed homosexuality in a culture that embraces both bacha bazi and extreme religious intolerance? Is it the suspicions of a cold hearted father?

No, of course not, it’s the gun.

          • Frankiti June 16, 2016 at 7:39 pm #

It matters not what he proclaimed himself to be doing. He was a fraud, according to Juan Cole at Truthdig.com He was a regular at the Pulse nightclub, was a deeply self-loathing gay man, and may have shot up the place after being jilted. He was mentally ill and was a heavy drinker and user of a gay dating app. Real jihadis do not conduct themselves as he did. Read the article, and see if you don’t agree that calling this an attack by radical Islamism, as the idiot Trump is doing, without knowing anything about this killer’s background, is completely overblown at best and entirely false at worst. Please Jim, don’t start sounding like Trump!

This attack provably had nothing to do with radical Islamic terrorism. Read the article by Juan Cole at Truthdig.com He was a regular patron at the Pulse nightclub and may have been ou for revenge after being jilted. That, and of course mental illness.

Mr. Kunstler, your Monday morning (9:49 EDT) response concerns me. You could only have heard the story about the shooter’s calling in to 911 and “Pledging Allegiance” to ISIS through the commercial media.

This is the same commercial media that trumpeted claims of Saddam Hussein’s WMD’s. The same commercial media that faithfully repeats tales of miraculously unscathed passports just sitting on the sidewalk in lower Manhattan. The same commercial media whose parroting of official economic statistics are routine fodder for hilarity around these interweb parts.

But now that same media is so credible it has you calling your readers “idiot” when it makes a claim about “ISIS?” On that topic you find them unquestionably credible?

Sir, your credulity damages your credibility. Perhaps there is one topic on which your emotions overrule your discernment.

  2. FincaInTheMountains June 13, 2016 at 4:33 am #

Sanders came to the meeting with his supporters to discuss the future of the campaign. Theoretically, if Sanders voters will support Killary, she will become president, and if they won’t, the president will be Trump.

But violations of the law when counting the votes in California primaries were so demonstratively obvious that it created impression that Killary did it on purpose to announce a coup d’etat. For example, California has admitted that 2.5 million ballots were not counted, and the third of ballots were received by mail or by any other non-standard ways.

    democracynow.org/2016/6/10/as_california_admits_2_million_ballots

Against this background, Sanders would have to discuss with his supporters not the upcoming elections in November or even convention in Philadelphia – what kind of election you could have in a country with ongoing coup d’etat – but the destruction of the database with lists of Sanders supporters and transition of the activist’s movement underground.

Moreover many sites seriously suggest that the mass shootings in recent days are a pretext for Killary to start the campaign to forcibly disarm the Americans and to start policy of open terror. This is about the Civil War.

    theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/06/bernie-sanders-email-list-clinton/486284/

“Many sites seriously suggest” — umm, no. If you’re insinuating that the Orlando massacre is a false-flag operation, which you are, you’re doing a bad job of it. Name these sites and tell us what evidence they have so we can judge for ourselves how “serious” they are.

      • S M Tenneshaw June 13, 2016 at 7:29 pm #

In this case, wouldn’t that be a “false fag operation”?

Ha! Gallows humour at its very dangliest. But now there’s this straw in the wind:

Orlando Shooter Was Reportedly a Regular at Pulse and Had a Profile on Gay Dating App

Only one headline so far, but we’ll see. But suppose for a moment this is true: the pat story of the self-radicalized home-grown Jihadi morphs into that of the classic, self-hating closet case gone terminally toxic. He abuses his wife till she leaves him in the middle of the night, spouts bigoted venom and anger about out gay men who are functioning successfully in the way he can’t, then finally explodes while taking as many of the objects of his hateful envy with him as he possibly can — with ISIS ideology no doubt foaming the runway to help propel him down the path he was choosing anyway.

Could one BJ have sorted this guy out, or at least saved many lives? I guess we’ll never know.

Now is the time for good citizens to actually go out and buy a good AR style carbine and ammo but most importantly the training to effectively use it for self defense.

Obviously your rhetoric based upon D party talking points is now even beyond silly.

Magic Dirt theories with you as a wizard of niceness is obviously a stupid fail, even Obama of a muslim father is screwing up. Muslims can make a choice about their faith they can leave it, he did and he even said so, and that is if you had any real courage would ask that Muslims take that choice.

Come on Obama have the courage to tell the muslims they can leave Islam if they choose.

Have the courage progressives to encourage muslims to leave Islam or to have its reformation, have the courage.

If you really want a weapon for self defense, a riot gun is a lot better than an AR. When the shooter comes at you, you’re not liable to be very calm and collected, and best to have a weapon that doesn’t rely on careful aim.

    • orbit7er June 13, 2016 at 7:58 am #

We have mass shootings once a month, most of them ignored by the media. For a list up to San Bernardino see:

      theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2015/oct/02/mass-shootings-america-gun-violence

The Merchants of Death see their weapons, subsidized by the billions by US taxpayers, to all and sundry – Saudi Arabia $60 Billion worth, Israel, Egypt, Pakistan, you name it, where ever a profit can be gained!
Meanwhile President Obama conducts his own assassinations with meetings every Tuesday on who will be killed next with a drone attack as he serves as judge, jury and executioner. But this is coming under protest at last, not that you would hear of it from the Corporate Media:

      commondreams.org/news/2016/06/11/germany-thousands-surround-us-air-base-protest-use-drones

The endless Wars cost US taxpayers $1 Trillion per year along with the hate of its victims, 6% of US oil usage and the Pentagon is the largest greenhouse emitter on the planet.
Yes we need to end Auto Addiction and suburban sprawl but we also need to end the endless Wars which will provide hundreds of billions to do it.
With the trillions wasted on the Mideast endless Wars for oil since Bush Sr invaded Iraq the first time we could have High Speed Rail, LightRail, solar energy on every school and municipal building, insulated energy efficient buildings and no more need for the cursed oil destroying our planet.
      When will we wake up?

Again I agree. The “merchants of death” have to have their wars. They need someone to test their new weapons on other than a PS4 and there is just too damn much money to be made. Sometime after the fall of the Russian Empire we figured out how to create enemies out of thin air and adopted the policy that anarchy, conflict, rebels, Arab Springs created chaos and chaos meant $$. It also meant that we could spend unlimited amounts of money because of dollar hegemony. If anyone challenged the US economically they would be destroyed. Just ask Putin. We allowed the EU because these were former allies and their union kept Russia at bay. But if NAME were to unite in an economic union they would be a threat. Create a conflict anyplace where peaceful co-existence is possible because the economic competition would mean the US could not dominate and export it’s economic WMDs.

Perhaps now we can begin to have an actual discussion about Islam. Not “radical” Islam; fundamental, Quran believing, faithful Islamists who believe and follow the teachings of Mohammed.

It is disturbing that it has become necessary for the western world to invent whole cloth the notion of a “peaceful” Islam so as to allow themselves the hubristic assumptions essential to avoid the bloody reality of this religion.

There is no core allowance for absolute liberty of conscience in Islam as there is in Christianity; and this, in the end, is the heart of the matter.

There is little solace to be found in the notion that the Mohammadens in this country happen to be, at present, better ‘democrats’ than Muslims. Until the doctrine of Jihad is publicly repudiated by the Islamic community worldwide there will be no end to the Mohammaden heritage of violent conquest and butchery.

    • orbit7er June 13, 2016 at 8:07 am #

“There is no core allowance for absolute liberty of conscience in Islam as there is in Christianity; and this, in the end, is the heart of the matter.” Huh??!!
Pardon me! As Monte Python so gloriously put it “Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!”

      youtube.com/watch?v=7WJXHY2OXGE

Actually the Moors and other Islamic countries were quite tolerant of other religions so long as they paid their taxes. It was the Christian Catholics in Spain who began systemically torturing people for not adhering to the “one true Faith” an attitude that continues to this day with some extremists in the American Taliban extremist Christian sects.

      • DrTomSchmidt June 13, 2016 at 11:05 am #

Ah, the myth of the Black Spaniard. So nice to see how effective English anti-Catholic rhetoric remains after all these years. After all, when you’ve stolen the 1/5th of land in England owned by the Church, you certainly don’t want the littlepeople getting any outside assistance restoring their ancient commonweal.

You might peruse what the English propagandists who created the myth of the black Spaniard did:
        en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Catholic_martyrs_of_the_English_Reformation

“forbidding the publication of any bull, writing or instrument of the Holy See (the death penalty was assigned to this)”

“In 1585 a new decree was issued that made it a crime punishable by death to go overseas to receive the sacrament of Ordination to the Catholic priesthood. Nicholas Devereux (who went by the alias of Nicholas Woodfen) and Edward Barber (see below Edward Stransham) were both put to death in 1586 under this law. William Thompson and Richard Lea (see below Richard Sergeant) were hanged, disembowelled and quartered under the same law.”

Now, did the Spanish have reason to fear an Islamic reconquest? From la Wik:

Ohio State University history Professor Robert Davis describes the White Slave Trade as minimized by most modern historians in his book Christian Slaves, Muslim Masters: White Slavery in the Mediterranean, the Barbary Coast and Italy, 1500–1800 (Palgrave Macmillan). Davis estimates that 1 million to 1.25 million white Christian Europeans were enslaved in North Africa, from the beginning of the 16th century to the middle of the 18th, by slave traders from Tunis, Algiers, and Tripoli alone (these numbers do not include the European people which were enslaved by Morocco and by other raiders and traders of the Mediterranean Sea coast),[1] and roughly 700 Americans were held captive in this region as slaves between 1785 and 1815.[2] 16th- and 17th-century customs statistics suggest that Istanbul’s additional slave import from the Black Sea may have totaled around 2.5 million from 1450 to 1700.[3] The markets declined after the loss of the Barbary Wars and finally ended in the 1830s, when the region was conquered by France.

Sounds like the Muslims were pretty tolerant of the faith of those slaves.

There is a ridiculous idea that equates the depredations of the Inquisition with Islamic force that spread the religion over the known Western world and continues to do so to this day. Mohammed was a warrior first and foremost, leading his militias to assert control over the immediate area by brute force and, then, begin the spreading of it in every direction by the same means. How can you possibly equate this violence with the message and actions of the founder of Christianity/

        • DrTomSchmidt June 13, 2016 at 4:32 pm #

Don’t blame the people who believe it. They’ve been subjected to propaganda (literally: for the pagans, who do not believe) for over 400 years. The myth of violent, backward Christianity is a part of the Reformation. Averroes and Avicenna were both great thinkers, not of the level of Aquinas; but the latter was Catholic and so a representative of the organization of the Protestants’ enemies.

If you want a good book on debunking some of this, check out Mohammed and Charlemagne Revisited, which adds modern archaeology to Henri Pirenne’s original thesis: that Mohammed, by closing off trade in the Mediterranean, shifted the focus of European civilization away from that sea and toward the north. The trade collapse caused an economic collapse; Europe in the 7th Century had finally recovered from the crisis of the 3rd century Roman Empire in the West, but Islamic expansion helped lead to a 300 year dark age.

That Islam spread from Mecca in 622 to only be stopped at Tours in the Loire valley 110 years later speaks some to the power of the faith. We screw around with it at our peril.

    • DrTomSchmidt June 13, 2016 at 10:50 am #

When the number of Americans killed by Muslims begins to approach 1/5th of the number of Muslims killed by Americans, I’ll worry about the threat. Fact is, we have finally found an enemy that won’t take the death of its loved ones lying down. Indeed, why cannot they be like Japan and just accept 300,000 killed in air raids in Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki?

It was probably a very bad idea to let Muslims move to the USA while killing them from drones over there. Unless, of course, you’re a well-paid “security” consultant in DC, in which case, more terror is more profit.

      • Janos Skorenzy June 13, 2016 at 12:03 pm #

Yes, it’s basic commonsense: you don’t bring in people you are fighting. And with Islam, the war will be forever.

        • SteveO June 13, 2016 at 12:36 pm #

Like the war on drugs, it’s a war we can’t win.

But that’s typical of all the wars the US has declared in the last 60 or so years.

        • Elrond Hubbard June 13, 2016 at 1:18 pm #

Thanks to its geography, the U.S. enjoys incomparable security against anything short of a Soviet-style nuclear threat. Over the course of a century of empire building, it got in the habit of committing homicide overseas at will because it presumed there was not the slightest reason to fear retaliation, particularly after the U.S.S.R. fell.

Not only does the way of life most Americans consider normal absolutely depend on freely distributing violence outside their borders, but those who manage and direct the violence have increasingly lost sight of what any of it ever meant. Violence becomes all at once the means, the end, and the rationale for all foreign policy.

And it appears the next president will be either a war hawk who never saw an intervention she didn’t like or a pathological narcissist whose instinct will be to swing his dick in every possible direction. These are not good times.

          • DrTomSchmidt June 13, 2016 at 4:22 pm #

Go for the narcissist. He had the gall to defame George W. Bush over the Iraq war. I was stunned to see that: “It may have been the worst decision anybody has made, any president has made in the history of this country.”

Contrast the war hawk, whose lesson from her Lady MacBethian decision to authorize the Iraq War as a Senator (so it wouldn’t hurt her chances to be President!) was to take out ANOTHER secular Arab dictator and unleash chaos on the region in Libya. Her consideration this time was she didn’t want it to turn out to be another Rwanda, where her husband had not intervened while 400,000 died.

With one, we can expect a war with Russia over Ukraine. With the other, we at least have some chance he’s learned. Since a President really has very little power except the power to take us to war, there’s really no contest on this issue.

What you said about tower blocks and mega structures being obsolete is so true. “We just don’t know it yet”. Some of us do.

Here in sunny Oz, we continue with what’s termed urban consolidation. an excuse for “developers” to build megastructures all over the city since our poor excuse for politicians need their funding largesse to line their pockets.

“Stranded assets” comes to mind. When the grid goes down all hell will break loose and all these towers will instantly be uninhabitable above the first few storeys. Actually grid failure, quite simple to engineer if one wanted to do so, is the real end of civilization event, the one with most to fear. 55 substations out of action would shut down the entire US grid.

So it’s just madness to keep this building boom going.

I feel for JHK, what with the hoodoo cyber-attack shenanigans. It should be more than obvious by now that there are certain viewpoints and realities that the status-quo machine does not want revealed or discussed. “Detroit, of course, is the most extreme case of civic implosion in the USA. But I reiterate: skyscrapers and mega-structures are already obsolete (we just don’t know it yet).” –JHK

Soooo, people are still buying the Progress = Prosperity lie? (In this case, progress being gargantuan edifices designed to facilitate air businesses and digital-reality paper-shuffling of financial instruments as well as strictly grid-dependent luxury living spaces.)

Well then, an awful lot of folks are going to suffer and expire when real limits put the kibosh on this vaporous dream. After all, for a new paradigm to “arise from the ashes”, the ashes have to have resulted from a conflagration of some kind. This is the only lesson of history that has ‘stuck’; people can purposefully ignore it, but it’s hardwired in their heads nonetheless.

BTW, Greer outlines one possible (and very plausible) course and aftermath of the conflagration in his continuing series about neighboring republics with different approaches to a future of hard limits and hard choices. I find it much in line with JHK’s prognostications and warnings.

The two news stories I read gave me the impression this incident had more in common with Sandy Hook than what happened in Paris last year, namely that this was a situation where a person with a diagnostic mental illness should not have been able to get his hands on a military-grade assault-rifle so easily. Islamic reaction may have given this twisted freak his justification, but it seems very unlikely that he had any contact with the IS terrorist group in Syria.

However, I’m not defending Islam *per* *se*. It is, after all, the only major world religion that calls for the death of those who renounce the faith, so it’s not a exactly a stretch to imagine its teachings fueling further terroristic acts in this country. Mosques that preach hate and intolerance should certainly be monitored by the authorities.

    • K-Dog June 13, 2016 at 10:50 am #

But could he have had any contact with a group claiming to be ISIS? (Spooks in suits.) This is a question inquiring minds will probably never be able to know.

A high I.Q. terrorist is an an oxymoron but if they could exist they should be able to figure out that terrorists attacks never benefit any terrorist cause. Instead conservative forces of draconian control benefit when the fear spreads.

Some crazies, as of late, who had mental storms raging in their heads with such a robust fury that it should make it very very hard to even tie shoes have been able to pull off terrorist actions that while not dripping with sophistication; have been too complex for a newbie terrorist to complete.

So who is pulling the strings? It is a question worth asking.

      • Janos Skorenzy June 13, 2016 at 12:13 pm #

Simply silly as usual on this question. Algerian terrorists drove the French out of Algeria and recreated their Nation. I mean isn’t this pretty basic anarchist theory: one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter?

        • Janos Skorenzy June 13, 2016 at 12:18 pm #

Far fetched in this case? You don’t understand: Mateen did this for you and for all Americans. Islam makes a distinction which Westerners don’t get unless they’ve done a lot of study. Yes, they wont force you to convert. If you want to stick to your previous Model T revelation that’s your business. You just have to pay “protection” money or jiyza and accept being a second class citizen. But Muslims do insist that all governments in the world be Godly or based on Shariah Law. Get the distinction? This is their mandate to spread World Revolution. America doesn’t have the right to exist as it structured. No Western Nation does, nor China nor India.

One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter is only true if a cause has support. Nutballs do not have anyone to rally to their cause which for the most part consists of inexplicable delusion anyway. Terrorists in Algeria had popular support so your analogy does not apply here.

He was in Florida. You don’t have to have anything more than a driver’s license and money but an AR or a Glock there. No waiting period, buy them and take them home immediately. Need a thousand rounds of ammo and few extra magazines? No problem. Sate background check? Nada. Only a quick check to see if you’re a felon. Should take about 10 minutes tops.

ALEC has been writing the gun laws there for a decade. They have very effectively eliminated all that bureaucracy you’re decrying.

      • Elrond Hubbard June 13, 2016 at 1:58 pm #

The guns per se have never been the problem. The problem is a culture of death, that worships instruments of death, and demands there be no limits on their worship regardless of all costs.

Wide prevalence of guns makes widespread violence more likely. Gun worshippers insist the opposite: The only solution they will accept for violence is more violence, i.e. everyone should be packing all the time. Someone here questioned why not one person at the Pulse nightclub was able to return fire, to which the only sane response in my view is: Who the hell brings a firearm to a nightclub?

Guns don’t save lives. Guns end lives. The more guns there are, the more deaths there will be. A culture that accepts that as a given and will brook no objections is a culture that worships death. That’s what needs to change.

        • Janos Skorenzy June 14, 2016 at 12:39 am #

But you said guns aren’t the problem. Then you say they are. Make up your mind – if you have one.

          • Elrond Hubbard June 14, 2016 at 8:26 am #

I meant what I said: guns themselves are not the problem. The problem is how they’re employed. Guns are instruments. If they’re not being employed against humans, I couldn’t care less. If they are, or might be, employed against humans, they’re homicide instruments and I care very much indeed.

Guy opens fire at a nightclub and murders dozens of people. Gun culture will brook no response other than adding more guns together with alcohol. Inevitable result: more homicides.

Guy walks into a school and murders a couple dozen kids and teachers. Gun culture will brook no response other than requiring more guns to be in more classrooms with more children. Inevitable result: more dead kids.

Gun culture is driven by fear, not reason. The consequences are written in blood.

          • Janos Skorenzy June 14, 2016 at 11:51 pm #

Yes, guns are just tools and citizens have every right to have these dangerous tools, just as they have the right to own cars. Obviously Muslim jihadis shouldn’t have them – and the way to prevent that is not to allow them to become citizens. And since you don’t know which will become jihadis, they all have to go.

          • Elrond Hubbard June 15, 2016 at 10:21 am #

Your kind of bigotry is nothing new. My Catholic ancestors endured it as well. The Crown made their religion its business, which is precisely what the authors of the U.S. constitution were determined to prevent when they wrote the first amendment. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion…” Establishment refers to the established church, e.g. the Church of England, with secular and religious authority united in the person of the King. (Today, the Queen.)

            en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_religion

Check the Wikipedia article and note that most of the countries with state religions today are Muslim, though not all. Europe endured over a century of religious warfare that accomplished nothing except a lot of slaughter, and finally ended when people just got tired of futile killing. The situation in the Muslim world today is not much different and will likely burn itself out in the same way once we stop adding fuel to the fire (and getting burned ourselves).

But comes Janos, whose fondest dream is to turn back the clock and undo everything about western culture today that’s different from four hundred years ago. With outright contempt for your country’s founding principles, you and your candidate would make religion the government’s business again and turn America into Europe of four centuries ago or a mirror of the Muslim world today. Screw that and screw you.

        • Exscotticus June 15, 2016 at 2:18 am #

This is typical misguided drivel. You think that every gun you can remove from the planet makes us that much better off. And so you support all manor of unconstitutional ill-conceived knee-jerk gun-grabbing legislation. But the only guns you end up removing are those of law abiding citizens. The military isn’t giving up its guns. The police aren’t giving up their guns. The ruling class with their armed security forces aren’t giving up their guns. And of course the criminals laugh at your stupid laws and gun free zone signs.

What more do you need to know? Hillary wants to bring hundred of thousands of unvetted “Syrians”. It’s madness.

Glad to see your site back up and running James !

This post reminds me of two books in particular, “Columbus and the Quest for Jerusalem”, a scholarly re-appraisal of the motives behind the seminal voyage of Columbus, and of course, “The Clash of Civilizations”, bu Sam Huntington.

But nowadays, a simpler and perhaps more revealing remark comes from Anatoli Boukreev, the former Soviet Master-climber who figured prominently in Jon Krakauer’s “Into Thin Air”.

Many may not realize Boukreev was a physics adept before he decided to devote himself to high-altitude mountaineering, a scholar, as it were, in the making.

A remark of his, following his introduction to western capitalism after the Soviet collapse, is very germane to our own situation – let us call our situation wannabe democrats.

Anatoli saw good and bad in both systems, and in remarking on the one he was of course most familiar with, the one which saw his abilities supported by the state, ultimately culminating in the presentation to him by Mikhail Gorbachev of the gold pin of Honored Master of International Sports, and of the Order of Personal Courage, both comprising the highest honors achievable by a Soviet private citizen, I think we see our own system reflected well:

“The problem with Communism turned out to be the communist.”
    ===================================================

In pondering over many many years our own descent, as I see it, into a form of hell on Earth – vis a vie our political situation and the wholesale destruction of our own environment, I cannot but wonder if all our band-aid patches, all our attempts to put out a multitude of fires her, there, and now seemingly everywhere, are not misguided.

If Anatoli was right in his assessment, perhaps the problem with the ‘western way’ is not our system – but we the democrats?

Developers are building huge rental towers in the small downtown area of Oak Park, Illinois. I recently read a quote from someone who said millennials and empty nesters would be clamoring to live in these monstrosities. OK, millennials, MAYBE. But mostly they want to be right in Chicago. As for empty nesters, really? Rentals? I am of this demographic and the very last thing I would devote my soon to be fixed income on is rent, to some landlord who can raise it at any time. And why would I want to leave my son absolutely nothing when I could leave him a house or condo. Who are these people and are there enough of them to fill all of the high-rises that are going up with this silly narrative in mind? The same thing happened during the last bubble and in Chicago there turned up lots of large buildings that were not fully occupied and then went into foreclosure. There was this idea that young people would live in them forever with no awareness that said people still leave the city when they have kids because of the schools.

    • orbit7er June 13, 2016 at 10:55 am #

As Michael Hudson has pointed out for some time, this is part of the plutocrats grand scheme ongoing for some years to move towards being Rentiers instead of industrialists or building new, or the old American dream of some little piece of ownership. First with the Homestead Act to own land and then in the 20th Century with home ownership. And what really makes me angry the trillions, not just the Bailout, given to the banks and plutocrats has been used to suck up all the privately owned homes from underwater homeowners and make them into rentals. All with our own US dollars and money created by the Fed and given to the banks!

      • Daphne DeMuir June 13, 2016 at 2:20 pm #

It’s awful. Anyone who has ever rented knows how completely insecure one is, and how much more expensive due to frequent moves. You are right–it’s about control. But I just can’t see how they think older, middle class people would fall for it. and maybe they won’t. I don’t know a single retiree who aspires to renting a small apartment anywhere.

        • Beryl of Oyl June 17, 2016 at 11:16 am #

Daphne, those Soviet-style apartments aren’t for you or me, or for anyone, for that matter. By anyone I mean any Americans, and as this is America that’s who I am talking about.
Those apartments are for foreigners. Notice I didn’t say the “I” word, because that will get you in trouble for racism or xenophobia or something even on this website. I am not talking about illegal ones, necessarily, either.
Think about back when that man afflicted with Ebola hopped a plane to join relatives in America. Remember where he went? To one of those high-rise Cabrini Green type projects, full of Somalis and so forth. Why are we building so much housing for people not yet in residence? It is an essential part of the Globalist agenda. More on that later, maybe. I get so tired.

/me Googles “how many americans are renters”

            Result: nmhc.org/Content.aspx?id=4708#Rent_and_Own

            % of residents in renter-occupied homes, 2014: 35%
            % of residents in owner-occupied homes, 2014: 65%

/me Googles “what percentage of americans are foreign born”

Result from Google results page: In 2013, over 40 million foreign-born representing 13% of the population resided in the United States. — Source: Brookings Institution

So 13% of the U.S. population is foreign-born while 35% are renters. Even assuming that every last U.S. resident not born in the country is a renter not an owner, that still leaves a 20% gap (gotta be about 70 million people) not accounted for. Who are they?

To paraphrase Game of Thrones — “All the kneelers will cry Sandy Hook!” Per Zero Hedge this was a coordinated attack involving multiple gun men zerohedge.com/news/2016-06-13/multiple-suspects-loose-orlando-why-media-blackout-eyewitness-accounts

Also, several witnesses described automatic gun fire, not semi-automatic. For those who are unaware, it is against the law and requires an exemption to own an automatic weapon so all the cries for more gun control is useless. This was not an assault rifle it was a machine gun. By the way, to carry a gun into a club in Florida is against the law but did that stop him. NO you kneeler! Also, it is very difficult to acquire fire arms in Europe. Did that prevent the attacks in Paris and else where. NO you kneeler.

The Democratic serf kneeler even invite people in who then kill them.

If you travel down on our southern border, it is practically a war zone, but the Democratic serf kneeler just cries you say mean things and where is my safe room. Well you are going to find your safe room is not too safe when bad men charge in with automatic weapons.

I was talking to a small town sheriff in SW Texas near close to where I was born and he basically said only an idiot (he must have been referring to a Clinton supporter) would travel around here not armed. Well I am not an idiot!

Former coworker Gilroy reportedly described the shooter Mateen as unhinged and unstable, constantly preoccupied with angry talk about “niggers” and “queers.” After Gilroy left the company, supposedly to get away from Mateen, Gilroy alleges that Mateen began cyber- and telephone stalking behavior toward him. Then, Mateen’s father said Mateen’s anger was triggered by recently witnessing two men publicly kissing, somewhere in Miami.

If this is true, it suggests the theory that Mateen was motivated by his intense fear and hatred of homosexuality. He may have found it easier to destroy himself (along with many others) than to come to terms with his own powerful and hated same-sex attractions. Is this what led him to strike out at a gay nightclub, as opposed to some other crowded spot? (IIRC, there are several other better-known tourist destinations in the Orlando area.)

Since the shooter is dead, we may never know all the answers, but it seems pretty likely this was a part of the mix.

This theory would, of course, neither excuse his behavior, nor exclude other contributory factors, such as influence by IS propaganda, and/or possible presence of untreated schizophrenia or other psychotic disorder, or even CTE (he was a former high school football player, though I have no idea how many concussions he experienced).

Clearly his behavior was ultimately enabled by the easy and legal availability of military-grade firepower.

    • stelmosfire June 13, 2016 at 12:02 pm #

Hi Evan, Not to be a broken record but a gun cannot kill anyone. It takes intent. I could drive down a busy street in my pick-up and take out dozens or fire up my pressure cooker and do the same. Should society outlaw cars, etc? They are all deadly weapons. How will you slice your bagel in the AM without a knife? There is no easy solution. Hatred is the problem.

      • Evan June 13, 2016 at 4:04 pm #

        Stelmosfire,

Guns in the hands of children, many criminals, and a few mentally ill persons actually do kill quite a few of us.

Unfortunately, restricting access by such people to guns would reduce the profitability of manufacturing and selling them, so we can’t do that.

And some firearms are designed to enable efficient mass slaughter, not for personal / family self defense or hunting. I personally see no justification for availability of assault weapons to civilians.

I would most definitely second your motion to outlaw cars, and I suspect our host today would agree.

I listed an article above if you look at it has video of many people in the club saying there were multiple shooters and described the sound of automatic gun fire. Hey could they have gotten it wrong. Maybe! Doesn’t change anything I said. No law is going to keep a want-a-be terrorist from getting a weapon. Despite strong laws on the books in Mexico and Europe people are able to obtain assault rifles.

Well guys, I hate to quote Fox News and I do it with a heavy heart. My sister who listens to everything called to say she saw this interview on Fox this morning.:

Fox News with Stuart Varney discusses the security detail link to Mateen.

from the interview with Judge Napalitano:

Judge Andrew Napolitano said on “Varney & Co.” today that G4S works for more than 100 governments around the world. He noted that includes the U.S. government, which uses G4S contractors at CIA and nuclear facilities.

“How could he be employed by an employer doing work for the CIA with the background that he had, with the prejudices he had against gays, with the attitude he had about radical Islam and about ISIS?”

Judge Napolitano asked. “How could they not have noticed it?”
Judge Napolitano added that Mateen qualified for the highest level of weaponry that one can qualify for in Florida, calling this an “extraordinary breakdown” in the background checks required for someone in his position.

He said it would be very interesting to find out what the FBI learned about Mateen when they investigated him in 2013 and 2014 regarding terror threats, and what other government agencies like the NSA knew about him.

Stuart Varney said this opens a “Pandora’s box” of questions regarding Muslims working in positions with high-level security clearances.

Judge Napolitano agreed, but noted that the Constitution would not allow increased surveillance of Muslims based on their religion.

    Mr. Kunstler,

Oh, to have been a fly on the wall at the annual congress of the New Urbanists. In Detroit, no less. The mythical Eden of the Funburger on Wheels. And, sadly, the place where the God of Ice Hockey, Gordie Howe, had some of his greatest moments. A really mean sonuva bitumen.

While the gleaming towers of the Renaissance Center will become functionally obsolete, they will still have a purpose. Building materials. Disassemble them from top to bottom. Preferably, before they become jet bait.

Ah, yes. That fond, yet, grisly memory. Crazy ass religious whackos indiscriminately murdering multitudes with small arms in the sheltering embrace of the crazy ass Second Amendment is becoming, well, common. Is it not?

    He’s goin’ for the record!!

But crashing big jets into even bigger buildings? Now THAT’S special. You can TSA scan every cell in an individual’s body and not one of them will tell you what that person is thinking. Or planning. The FBI interviewed that wife beatin’ murderer in Orlando more than once. STILL couldn’t make the connection. A NYC boy at that. Home grown.

So, more law enforcement, more military, more personal data collecting….these are the traditional methods. And none of them work. Ya just can’t stop the Disparate and Desperate Black Swan.

But what do I know? I build washing machines.

No Steve. Stopping Muslim immigration would have stopped Marteen since he wouldn’t have been born here.

Stopping “Syrian” (Muslims from everywhere) immigration will stop many future massacres like this since the Jihadis intend to mix in with the immigrants as they have done in Europe.

But you’re right and therefore wrong. The second generation is becoming more radical than the first – the European pattern. The only ultimate solution is mass deportation. I’m glad we agree on something.

I’m watching the show Aquarius on Netflix right now. It’s well done. It’s also purposeful Disinformation. I’m convinced there is significant overlap between The Manson Affair and this now well over a decade long War of & on Terror. Did Gladio just disappear, or was that project expanded upon & applied to any number of venues & initiatives? I think the latter. This Mateen conveniently phones 911 to let them know he’s with Daesh and murdering on its behalf & with its blessing? Riiiiiigghhttt!! That’s not a too obvious attempt to justify the two narratives that will emanate from this: Radical Islamic Terrorism & Gun Control.

Not to mention, these events pop up at the most opportune times, don’t they? The MSM was beginning to focus a bit too much on The Clinton Foundation and what do you know — a “quasi-terrorist” shooting manifests that the MSM will cover for at least a week, if not more and The Clinton Foundation investigation will be moved to the back page or off the pages entirely.

As Alex Jones says, you don’t “run” spiders. You can put them in your neighbor’s bed and they’ll do what they do. But that’s not the same as directly controlling them. They have their own needs and activities.

  23. Cold N. Holefield June 13, 2016 at 12:49 pm #

If Trump miraculously wins the general election and becomes POTUS, you can expect one these events a week, if not twice a week. He’d never finish his first term. If they don’t assassinate him, they will disgrace him in every manner you can imagine, and this would be one way.

  24. Janos Skorenzy June 13, 2016 at 12:50 pm #

    From Donald J. Trump’s website:

Last night, our nation was attacked by a radical Islamic terrorist. It was the worst terrorist attack on our soil since 9/11, and the second of its kind in 6 months. My deepest sympathy and support goes out to the victims, the wounded, and their families.

In his remarks today, President Obama disgracefully refused to even say the words ‘Radical Islam’. For that reason alone, he should step down. If Hillary Clinton, after this attack, still cannot say the two words ‘Radical Islam’ she should get out of this race for the Presidency.

If we do not get tough and smart real fast, we are not going to have a country anymore. Because our leaders are weak, I said this was going to happen – and it is only going to get worse. I am trying to save lives and prevent the next terrorist attack. We can’t afford to be politically correct anymore.

The terrorist, Omar Mir Saddique Mateen, is the son of an immigrant from Afghanistan who openly published his support for the Afghanistani Taliban and even tried to run for President of Afghanistan. According to Pew, 99% of people in Afghanistan support oppressive Sharia Law.

We admit more than 100,000 lifetime migrants from the Middle East each year. Since 9/11, hundreds of migrants and their children have been implicated in terrorism in the United States.

Hillary Clinton wants to dramatically increase admissions from the Middle East, bringing in many hundreds of thousands during a first term – and we will have no way to screen them, pay for them, or prevent the second generation from radicalizing.

We need to protect all Americans, of all backgrounds and all beliefs, from Radical Islamic Terrorism – which has no place in an open and tolerant society. Radical Islam advocates hate for women, gays, Jews, Christians and all Americans. I am going to be a President for all Americans, and I am going to protect and defend all Americans. We are going to make America safe again and great again for everyone.

Can anyone disagree? Our Leaders have failed to keep us safe – the most basic duty of their end of the social contract. And they intend to keep on failing us – both parties. Only the Man of the Hour is for us and the United States. Support Him, His Men, and His Plan.

    • xhalor June 13, 2016 at 12:57 pm #

I can disagree. How have all of our “tough guy” efforts in the Middle East worked so far. Don’t you think they know by now what we bring to the party?

You forget your own history, Vlad.

So what are you saying. We should go ahead and keep giving visa’s to thousands more immigrants from Islamic counties?
How does that help? What do you think we should do? Open our borders, lay down and say come and get us? People like you make me sick. Stand up for your children and grandchildren and oppose this monstrous ideology. If we believe the best way to organize society is to guarantee rights to the individual then we must stop Islam from spreading. xhalor,

The U.S. had no intention of being the Tuff Guy or bringing civilization to the Middle East. We were over there to steal, kill, and destroy on behalf of ISRAEL and Israeli interests in Washington. “Democracy” is really the freedom of finance capital to steal by way of debt instruments and to commodify public assets… THEN steal them!

We were over for, among many evil reasons, to secure assets pledged by Levantine governments for the right to have U.S. dollars in their central banks. Maybe not so much for the “right” as the tyrannical obligation. Foreign assets which are held equal to comparable domestic assets within ZOG Amerika. THAT globalist valuation is why the U.S. dollar is the world’s reserve currency.

At least the European imperial countries of the 18th and 19th centuries imposed civilization and even domesticated Islam to where it was manageable. We are there for purely evil reasons and our own political correctness enabled Islam to slip its leash and become malignant again.

Trump’s instincts are correct but, he’s about to tangle with the Flying Lizard herself, Hillary Rodan Clintonista. That means Donald MUST step up his narrative to impress grad school professors and risk speaking over the heads of his fans. The Flying Lizard herself isn’t grad school material but, many of her uppity fans in Washington are and they have to be attacked DIRECTLY; on their own intellectual turf.

Trump can’t continue to use the limited vocabulary of a typical U.S. high schooler or exercise empty rhetoric with synthetic passion if he’s going to win the war.

By that logic, George W Bush should have immediately resigned on September 11th 2001.

If you want to extend that foolishness to it’s illogical conclusion, FDR should have resigned on December 7th 1941.

Hardly a day goes by that some Republican doesn’t call for Obama’s resignation and/or impeachment. It’s lost any meaning it might have had.

Hi Jim: I wish I could have met you in Detroit but I was too busy farming my “blot” near Palmer Park. I think you are sometimes a bit dismissive of urban agriculture and also a bit hard on architects. I have demolished the house on the lot next to my home and converted it into a very productive garden space. The orchard is still too young to produce but this is giving us time to learn the art of food preservation. I am planning on erecting a hoop house this summer to extend my season into the fall. Our neighborhood is really an old streetcar suburb along Woodward near 6-mile. When the streetcar was removed, the neighborhood went into decline. Perhaps BRT will bring it back but I’m not holding my breath. My neighbors are great and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. I have a guest house next door and would love to host you next time you pass through Detroit. Please don’t put all the blame for our urban form on “the architects”. Most of us do the best we can within the constraints placed on us.

All “democratic” media in chorus demand Sanders to lie down under Killary, promising him everything, all the way up to vice presidency and the full implementation of the his social programs.

And I’m afraid that Sanders does not understand that his domestic socialism + foreign policy of Killary Clinton, is exactly a National Socialism in the tradition of Adolph Hitler.

Nevertheless, the old Brooklyn Jew obviously has a genetic knowledge burned firmly into his bones, feels that this is dirty, and in response only promises to meet tomorrow with the Killary, to discuss the joint fight against Trump, at the same time reaffirming his resolve to continue the struggle with her in the framework of the ongoing primaries as if he had not been convinced of the hopelessness of the struggle.

In addition, as I understand it, in spite of the betrayal he continues to follow his arrangements with Barack Obama, according to which he is going to raise the issue of his nomination at a convention of the Democratic Party in Philadelphia, after forcing super-delegates to vote for the head of the coup d’état (and their own judgment in the case of the failure of the coup).

Meanwhile, Trump took advantage of ISIS statement, taking responsibility for the mass murder in Orlando and urged Obama to resign in connection with his refusal to blame Islamic radicals for the attack, Hillary to withdraw her candidacy from the election for the same reason, and Sanders supporters to join his fight against the “vile Hillary”, who is going to bring Islamic radicals from the Middle East, after taking away weapons from the Americans in the United States.

And all you have to do is to listen to the indignant howl of MSM that this is a “vile attempt to take advantage of the tragedy in Orlando” to understand that not all is running smoothly for Killary, and she is faced with resistance and realizing that it is one thing to seize power, and quite another to hold on to it.

Speaker of the White House following the orders of secretly rebellious Obama, the day before yesterday said that the FBI conducts a criminal investigation against Killary.

And that’s what seems to have become a center of resistance to ongoing coup d’état of Killary Clinton in the United States of America, and because behind this investigation looms the shadow of Obama, this makes it possible to wring Hillary under the standard legal procedures.

I am praying that it could still work.

What we all need to remember here is exactly who the real and most dangerous enemy is and that would be a population of armed motivated white people who realize that they have been duped, doped and drained by the wealthy mega-masters that rule over them. In the Great Depression in 1929, Americans were far simpler, much more pliable and a heck of a lot less well armed. When they were robbed blind during that Depression they begged, borrowed and subsisted on little to nothing yet remained quiet and manageable as far as the government was concerned.

Anyone who has studied economics in any post high school capacity not only understands that things like Booms and Depressions are cyclical and can even see exactly where this nation is headed and that is an even Greater Depression. They also know that we are all being played, robbed and abused by our wealthy mega masters without mercy. What Warren Buffet, Bill Gates or any career politician does not awaken in the middle of the night after nightmares of armed hungry white people storming the gates of his palatial estate in search of not only a meal but some kick ass payback? The mega wealthy know what is coming and disarming white people (except of course for their paid thugs) is a must if they hope to survive and spawn future generations of truly useless eaters themselves. By paying off the political whores that they surely own to go overseas and stir up a hornets nest of stone age primitives and them import them in masse and without discretion and then blaming firearms and the white people that own them is a sound plan. Disarmament will go a long way towards minimizing the threats from a disgruntled mass of hungry, used-to-be affluents, especially once they are fully aware that they have no voice, no choice and no chance.

You have to hand it to the scum at the top. They may not be able to fool all of the people all of the time, but damned if they cannot fool most of the people almost all of the time. Never give a sucker an even break, right?

I certainly would not put it past Hillary’s cohort to sabotage your website, but would suppose they are obliged to regard you as an ally. Granted, you write bad things about her, but they understand that practically everybody hates her guts. The only thing they ultimately care about is votes and, after all, you do continue to urge your readership to oppose Trump.

For my part, I can only conclude that any candidate owned by Goldman Sachs and the “defense “ industry, and who is relied upon by Robert Kagan to implement the Project for a New American Century, must be opposed, even if the only alternative is the odious Trump. Trump’s published Foreign Policy Speech acknowledges that finding a way to coexist with Russia and China is a better plan than instigating World War III.

To be sure, when the bad news is that the choices are Hillary and Donald, there is no good news. But, between them, Clinton appears to be the real existential threat.

Embodied in our nation’s founding documents and the architecture of our government is the understanding that it is human nature to aggregate into groups that predispose to hegemony, and that positions of power attract the ambitions of the most ruthless always among us. That was the understanding for segregating the three branches of government as balancing checkmates for one another. The Bill of Rights, guaranteeing all citizens equal, was the ingenious hedge against any one group claiming ordination of God to reign over others. Essentially, it is secularist “free thought”, exclusive to Western culture as has developed – and has been acculturating into the Western psyche – since the times of ancient Greece. Don’t take it for granted because it is antithetical to the mystical basis for other cultures. Sure, it is common to witness in America calls for “return to the Bible”, but historically we’ve remained a nation of secular law – doing so is in our cultural DNA.
Calls for Sharia law or some other such is not only anti-American but a call for annihilation of Western culture and should be taken as such. The throngs that call for open borders and unrestricted diversity (as in no immigration policies for screening elements unwilling to forego allegiance to all but our constitution and form of government) are ignorant of history or are floating in the miasma of John Lennon’s Disneyesque “Imaging” fantasy.

Suffice to say that after a week in which Hillary Clinton had declared herself the nominee before the last super Tuesday, but was never able to gain the cherished 2,383 pledged delegates, despite an unprecedented volume of manipulation of the ballots with the direct complicity of the head of DNC Madame Wasserman-Schultz, after unexpected (and I admit, personally devastating to me) endorsement of forcibly smiling Obama, in the most glowing terms ascribing qualities to her which she never had, all Sunday’s political programs were effectively cancelled, except for quite indistinct mutterings on FOX5.

All channels were only filled with non-stop reports of the mass murder of gays in Orlando and the new week began Monday without a dose of political fix for the so-called intellectuals and political activists, which is tantamount to depriving thousands of drug addicts of their usual “fix”.

It is very similar to an attempt to hang up a smokescreen in the first week after the coup, in order that would consolidate her power and to suppress the outbreak of the spontaneous resistance.

Attack on Kunstler.com was just part of the program.

And if such a dismal event was used as informational cover for the smokescreen, the question is: what lies behind this fog?

I love your writing. I’ve never read any of your books but they are on my list. But CFN resonates with me. My question is a philosophical one. As a nation founded by multi-cultural immigration and inclusion if we begin to limit immigration on the basis of race, nationality or religion will we not be on the road to fascism? How do we exclude (bar from immigration) people of a particular nationality or religion without creating fear and bigotry at home? When we start looking at hour neighbor and judging his appearance as “middle eastern” or “Islamic” we will have become a nation of paranoid right wing bigots.

My history books used the phrase “melting pot”. The Europeans of the 14th to 16th century who first settled this country included the English, French, Spanish, and the Portuguese. But those cultures were influenced by Germanic tribes, Visigoths, Greeks and Eastern European cultures, (the Turks for example) and North Africans, Persians, Jews and Muslims. and the remnants of the Holy Roman Empire. As we grew the nation thrived and grew stronger from Asian and European immigration.

To show how much these cultures have contributed to our American culture, just recently, the Scripps National Spelling Bee ended in a tie between Nihar Janga, 11, of Austin, Texas, and Jairam Hathwar, 13, of Painted Post, N.Y.

That is the great American experiment. The founding fathers knew this and founded a Republic where more than one culture could thrive and contribute. The minute we decide (and we may have already) that all Americans must think, act and dress the same is the day that experiment fails.

You’re a mess. Perhaps you meant “founded on” and not “founded by”. Are you talking about the settlers or the founders?
How do Indians who have overpopulated and denigrated their subcontinent, and now New Jersey, demonstrate contributions to “our American culture” by spelling words in English? It’s absurd, wrong, stupid, and without logic. The Asians, including the Chinese, have yet to figure out that rote memorization gets you nowhere. Thus they tediously program 1s and 0s and reverse engineer what the creators have wrought. Dumbass.

          • Frankiti June 14, 2016 at 1:48 pm #

No. They come from cultures that appear to be susceptible to group-think (Chinese communism, North Korea authoritarianism) and mimicry: developing a child cellist player as opposed to a composer, a spelling bee contestant as opposed to a writer. They are most often poor and ignorant people that confuse brilliance with intelligence (dad was a doctor that studied here, etc). Memorization with creation. People may be created equal, but cultures certainly are not. I know you and your racist ilk have a hard time with that confusion.

Omar Matin, who staged a massacre at a nightclub in Orlando, spent almost nine years in one of the world’s largest private security firms – G4S. This international company is based in London but has several offices in the United States, including Florida

No “hatred and homophobia” could make a person to go and mass murder people.

Firstly, psychological barrier to kill its own kind must be removed. The man under hypnosis can not commit murder, but a man under the influence of special drugs – can.

Training of employees of Private Military Companies (PMC), aims at the removal of that natural psychological barrier. That is, Omar Martin was professionally prepared and psychologically well-trained to murder people; his main occupation implies a professional commitment to the murder.

All the talk about the “ban on the sale of weapons” is putting the cart before the horse. Then it is necessary to prohibit PMCs whose current or former employees and related people commit 90% of all homicides in the United States. Or limit the movement of the staff of PMCs in the territory of the United States, or prevent them from entering the country. Or travel ban, because they are trained in the United States. Or prohibit PMCs? But this, of course, is not discussed by Killary.

I wonder is chemical analysis is a mandatory part of autopsy of the body of perpetrator?

However, let’s say your solution is a viable one, point me to the candidate who promises to live & let live and leave the Middle East to Putin’s whims & fancies. What’s the plan for managing the chaos that ensues from attempts to fill the Power Vacuum created by one collapsing regime after another? The House of Saud, if it’s lucky, has another decade left before it falls. Won’t that be fun. It was always tentative. I’ve written extensively about it. There’s no stopping what’s coming. • Elrond Hubbard June 13, 2016 at 11:13 pm #

I would recommend that anyone with an interest in the subject read America’s War for the Greater Middle East by Andrew Bacevich. (In fact, everyone should read everything Andrew Bacevich writes.)

To read through a refresher course on what has gone on from the 1970s to the present is to experience all over again, from bad beginnings, what an escalatingly, desperately pointless exercise the whole endeavour has become. Over and over again, Bacevich points out that the one thing the U.S. hasn’t done, seemingly can’t do, is stop and re-examine what it is doing, and why, and whether its goals are achievable, whether they are worth achieving, or whether the whole thing even makes sense. (Hint: it clearly doesn’t.)

I daresay if the U.S. simply withdrew and devoted its efforts to freeing itself from its Middle East oil addiction, it might not only regain a great deal of its national composure and some measure of the respect it has squandered, but by no longer sowing dragon’s teeth there it might one day see an end of the resulting harvest as well.

It’s like retirement planning: years from now you’ll be reaping the benefits of starting early and planning ahead. (Maybe. If the world economy doesn’t crash and burn. But you get the analogy.)

Besides the fact that it’s criminal, a more practical reason not to bomb people when you have the means and the leisure to do so is that you don’t manufacture problems for your descendants. Not too long ago Serbian fanatics ginned up a war over a battle that other, long-dead Serbs lost 600 years previously. All some people need is an excuse, so deny them the excuse. Done the right way, peace now increases the chances of peace later.

There would have been no America without the conquest of the Indians. You wouldn’t even exist. Why not affirm your own life? As Moses said, Honor you parents that your days may be long on the Earth. How else could they be without watering your own roots? Just so, you must honor the Conquerors who have bequeathed their patrimony to all of us. You would have nothing – not even your own being or existence – but for them.

    • Cold N. Holefield June 14, 2016 at 7:11 am #

You speak as though America is, and has been, a Static Proposition. I contend there is no such thing as America, there is only the notion of it. America is always a Work-In-Progress Concept. It’s a Constantly Morphing Abstraction. You can’t pin it down, because it’s dynamic and always evolving.

As well, it has always meant different things to different people dependent upon their experience with the dynamic, abstract concept that is America. For example, America’s a very different Animal/Beast to a Vietnamese person who’s entire family was massacred by American GI’s per The Colonel’s hard-hearted, yet empathic orders versus the notion of America held by a land-owning Southerner who’s ancestors were slaveholders and the land he owns has been in his family for generations and he’s still wealthy as a result of it.

Yeah, no shit. Guess what? Everything is like that – even you. An old girlfriend of mine realized that and wouldn’t water her plants since they were going to die anyway. In a world of death, she needed all that care for herself she explained. Apparently she overcame much of this and now has a big job in Washington and may actually know Hillary. Oh maybe she didn’t overcome it so much as radically sublimate it since the Democrat Party is a Death Cult that sucks from others to maintain its own life.

One Sufi Master said his disciples, you see those distant mountains as utterly stable but to me they are dancing on air. My point: you can take this realization and do all kinds of things with it, move towards Enlightenment or go crazy. Become very loving or very selfish. As Lincoln said, it’s not the thing itself so much as our reaction to it that counts. In political terms, yes, change there will be. But let’s make a distinction between change coming from within instigated by the people themselves and change coming from without and/or forced on the nation by the Elite.

Outside the Civil War the largest massacre was probably the massacre of 120 immigrants, men, women, and children, in 1857, by the Utah Territorial Militia.

“The Mountain Meadows massacre was a series of attacks on the Baker–Fancher emigrant wagon train, at Mountain Meadows in southern Utah. The attacks began on September 7 and culminated on September 11, 1857, resulting in the mass slaughter of the emigrant party by members of the Utah Territorial Militia from the Iron County district, together with some Paiute Native Americans. Intending to leave no witnesses and thus prevent reprisals, the perpetrators killed all the adults and older children—about 120 men, women, and children in total.”

How was someone with Mateen’s skill not on the front lines in America’s perpetual war on the Brown, Yellow & Black people of the Planet? What a kill-to-wounded ratio. Speaking of records, I think that’s a record right there yet there’s no mention of it being a record.

Practically one killed for every one injured when common sense tells us, with that rifle, it would have had to have been one killed for every five injured and the total number of dead & wounded would have had to have been much less than reported. There is no doubt in my mind multiple shooters were involved. This was a Gladio Style (not to be confused with Gangnam Style) operation if ever there was one. Who’s the Real Enemy, people? So I read that and realized that a commenter thinks I advocate “civilizational suicide”. I’m not quite sure why nor do I especially care to find out just how effin stupid this hating spouter is. But I did a search on the comments page for “Janos” and realized this guy doesn’t get out much. I got bored reviewing his comments on this one so here I landed. Is this a personal attack on Janos because he thinks I’m the destroyer of civilization? No. But anyone bothering to read his comments and bother to consider him even a little bit sane is a touch more destructive to this “civilization” than some guy who lives with the man he loves. One more time, Janos. Think of the faggot who called you on your bigotry when you are all alone tonight and try not to be jealous of him.

BTW, I really appreciated that Kunstler mentioned this massacre in its proper perspective. He didn’t mention what sort of persons were murdered, only that it was terribly wrong. Stuff like this happens all the time in the middle east and it’s just as wrong there. I’m not happy that “civilization’s” chickens are coming home to roost, but I am glad when a commentator I respect doesn’t try to go PC on it. No one’s gay when their dead.

In other words, I’m a “typical White person” as Obama said of his grandmother who was being harassed by a Black street person. Once he learned that the bum was Black, he lost all sympathy for his grandmother in favor of the Brother Man. No one was ever kinder to Obama than his Grandmother, who took care of him after his mother abandoned him. No matter. Politics trumps everything and Race trumps politics for Obama.

You wonder what the hubbub is about because you have no problem with any of this. Like Obama, you view everything thru an ideological lens and race is at the top of your ideology. The Coup Chronicles

In his own time the Chief of the Allied forces in Europe and the United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower was able to suppress the pro-Nazi coup by Truman and McCarthy using purely democratic methods.

True, he has achieved this not without the help of the Russian company MiG, that proved in Korea that America does not have the means of delivery of strategic nuclear weapons, and even then, he warned that the main danger to democracy does not come from the Soviet Union, but from the US military-industrial complex(MIC).

President Dwight D. Eisenhower was slightly wrong: as shown by the current Coup d’état by Hillary Clinton, the main danger comes not from the MIC, but from MBC – Military Banking Complex of the United States, which is actually not the part of the United States, but is part of the so-called global economy.

The US Army and the US military-industrial complex, due to the fact that it is primarily industry, rather support Trump, who puts national interests of the US, including the US defense industry above the interests of transnational corporations, NATO, the global economy and even above the interests of Goldman Sachs .

And it appears that the global elites are split on this question, and some of the circumstances – hastily gathering Bilderbergs – suggest that for them these events were unexpected as well. This means that the coup d’état by Hillary Clinton is the amateur show, not in advance orchestrated performance for professionals.

I especially want to note that in these circumstances, the point of application of forces, wishing to suppress the rebellion in secret, is Bernie Sanders, not Donald Trump, as only the Sanders’ nomination allows to keep the matter hush-hush, but the election campaign Trump-Clinton gives Hillary the irresistible desire to falsify elections and to lie on the camera, which will lead to a civil war.

There is little appreciation for the gravity of the situation – across the entire globe: namely the Yzlamik existential threat to all kaffirs.

The only thing the Yzlamik “culture” (I think Raymond Williams’ definition is closest to being all-encompassing, which is “the entire lived way of life”) and civilization wants to do – is conquer the entire world and convert it; dhimmize it; enslave it or execute it.

Yzlam, that political, economic, juridical, social and religious system, founded by the warlord Mohammed, is crystal clear in the final goal and the methods by which it achieves them.

Like Communism and Naziism before it, it, Yzlam, wants the entire fucking enchilada.

If 14 centuries of history doesn’t convince you, current events on the world stage, and the latest “murder and martyr” festivities right here in the good ol’ USA don’t, than nothing will.

I am not suggesting that currently, American interventions in the Near East, North Africa, East Africa, South-Cental Asia, and other places is not a causative factor. It very much is – the USA is responsible, in large part for much of the hatred and killing directed against the West.

The USA needs to withdraw from all military entanglements with the Yzlamik world with the clear understanding that any attack will be met with the gravest of consequence.( Hold that though about consequences for another moment please.)

This does not change the facts of history or the current situation.

Yzlam wants to invade and conquer you and you had better believe it.

The sooner Yzlamik warriors understand their will be consequences for their actions the better for everyone.

I would like to propose a solution and possible deterent to Yzlamik terror events. Whether the jihadis are dead or alive when captured is of no importance. Once properly tried, convicted or the remains identified, that murderer will have its corpse defiled in a manner that makes it Haram, not-Kosher, disgusting, vile and unclean. Fed to swine and then the swine roasted to ashes. The ashes then taken to a packing house to be mingled with more pigs blood and washed away into a drain never more to be seen. No returning bodies to families for prayers and proper preparations. No funerals, NO paradise and 70 virgins. Just ignominy.

That’s right – defile the corpses of jihadis, and let them consider that as part of the cost analysis of being an Yzlamik murderer.

And a sidebar story: Yeah, Mateen’s father is a huge supporter of the Taliban, at his “Provisional Government of Afghanistan” offices in PSL, Florida.

    washingtonpost.com/world/the-orlando-shooters-afghan-roots/2016/06/13/d89a8cd0-30e4-11e6-ab9d-1da2b0…

THE US GOVERNMENT IS OUT OF ITS FUCKING MIND BRINGING SUCH PERSONS HERE.

WHo is responsible for this? What imbecile bureaucrat approved this? They also need to be punished: we have only been fighting the Taliban for 15 years. Consequences indeed.

Yeah yeah yeah, except he was born in Brooklyn like Trump. Small detail.

The fact that the FBI had this guy 3 times in conversation and then forgot about him….hmmm we’ve all heard this story before.

We have a problem here and these acts of violence will elect a man who hates the free press among so many other problems.

Trust me when I say this isn’t what you think it is.

      • pequiste June 14, 2016 at 1:26 pm #

The Orlando jihadi terrorist murderer was an anchor baby plain and simple.

An Yzlamik believer really lives in an Yzlamik world no matter where they are conceived or born. These people are as American as the House of Saud or the head Imam in Mogadishu. They are not and shall never be Americans irrespective of the passport they carry or where they reside.

The bastard father of the jihadi came here to support the very enemy we have spent plenty of blood and treasure to defeat. And the US government let him in – HOW FUCKING CRAZY IS THAT?

If this is some sort of “set up” as you imply then the denouement can’t come soon enough as the civilized peoples of the Earth have much bigger issues to deal with.

        • Janos Skorenzy June 14, 2016 at 2:18 pm #

VERY FUCKING CRAZY. Trump’s questions about whether Obama knows or cares – or whether he knows better than anybody are completely apropos. Ditto the whole higher political class, the permanent regime which transcends Party.
There is no rational reason why this Taliban member was allowed to enter the United States.

        • Elrond Hubbard June 14, 2016 at 3:30 pm #

péquiste: Article VI of the U.S. constitution states that “no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.” The first amendment to that document reads in part: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”.

Together, these provisions make it very clear indeed that the framers were keen to establish for all time that religion plays no part in defining who is or isn’t American. If you have a different opinion, you should either start agitating for a constitutional convention so you can make your case, or eliminate confusion and declare your affirmative rejection of the constitution.

Anyone who meets basic citizenship requirements and can meet the very mild expectation of not murdering roomsful of people at a go has earned the right to call themselves American, whether they pray toward Mecca or not. Millions of American Muslims will thank you for keeping your head straight on this elementary point.

          • messianicdruid June 15, 2016 at 9:18 pm #

I think the CONstitution is probably the best form of government created by men, but, since it apparently could not prevent the train wreck we are presently experiencing, will you admit that it is NOT “the perfect law of liberty”.

          • Elrond Hubbard June 16, 2016 at 12:14 pm #

There’s no shortage of things wrong with the U.S. constitution, as well as the culture surrounding it. Americans are so enamoured of it as the be-all and end-all of democratic governance, when in fact it’s a clunky second effort (after the original Articles of Confederation failed), much too hard to amend, and not much used as a model by other countries these days. But for all that, it’s the law, and adhering to the rule of law (while you work to make it better) is a basic dividing line between civilization and savagery.

Anti-Politics and the Plague of Disorientation: Welcome to the Age of Trump
    By Henry Giroux

One of the most brilliant people in the US today is Henry Giroux. I first became aware of him on Bill Moyers and he is one of today’s greatest thinkers. He is in every sense of the words a political, economic and social theorist up to the standards of Noam Chomsky and beyond and if you’re not familiar with his thinking PLEASE let me be the one to introduce you to his URL: henryagiroux.com/online_articles.htm

    There’s so much there!
This article has been posted on both OPEDNEWS and truthout and is in particular the most cogent look through the looking glass of what this country has become in this moment before we fall away from the great experiment which was a country born out of the Age of Enlightenment.
Perhaps human nature was never up to the task, but today several forces have wrecked havoc on this once great aspiration to become something great and now we are looking into a situation of no good options.
I can’t recommend enough that you take the time to read this piece which encapsulates all the issues of this failed political system who’s only aim is to continue down this path of self destruction and the destruction of the Republic.

Here are some points to look at but the whole article has to be read in context.

[Capitalism, racism, consumerism and patriarchy feed off each other and are mobilized largely through a notion of common sense.
Maybe this is all understandable in a corporate-controlled neoliberal society that uses new communication technologies that erase history by producing a notion of time wedded to a culture of immediacy, speed, simultaneity and endless flows of fragmented knowledge. As Manuel Castells writes in Communication Power, this is a form of “digital-time” in which everything that happens only takes place in the present, a time that “has no past and no future.” Time is accelerated in this new information-saturated culture, and it also flattens out “experience, competence, and knowledge,” and the capacity for informed judgment. Time has thus been transformed to provide the ideological support that neoliberal values and a fast-food, temp-worker economy require to survive.]….

…..[In the age of Trump, anticipation no longer imagines a better world but seems mired in a dystopian dread, mimicking the restlessness, chaos and uncertainty that precedes a historical moment no longer able to deal with its horrors and on the verge of a terrible catastrophe. We now live in a time in which mainstream politics sheds its ideals and falls prey to choices that resemble a stacked deck of cards and mimic the values of an authoritarian society. All the while politics is being hollowed out as lawlessness and misdirected rage, while a loss of faith in electoral politics has given rise to a right-wing populism that is more than willing to dispense with democracy itself.

Demands to support Hillary Clinton as a lesser evil compared to Trump refuse to acknowledge that such mandates keep existing relations of power intact. Such actions represent more than a hollowing out of politics — they represent a refusal of the affirmative nature of political struggle. They also represent the surrender of any hope of moving beyond the enveloping fog of authoritarianism and a broken political system. Put bluntly, such choices sabotage any real hope for developing a new politics and a radical democracy.

That is but a small taste of an article that describes our moment to a tee. PLEASE READ!

We sure have. This latest Mass Shooting has all the Hallmarks, doesn’t it?

This guy Mateen is everything to everybody who holds a grudge and has a chip on their shoulder. Now, he not only hated gays, but he was gay. And he was Muslim. And he loved the NYPD. And he was investigated by the FBI. And he worked for G4S as security for the DHS. What’s next — he was a big Martha Stewart fan and had all her recipes and loved cooking for all his gay friends and fellow G4S colleagues? You can’t make this shit up — because they already did, and that would be plagiarism.

I like how they made sure to mention he supported the Boston Bombers. They used to do this with the letters they created in OBL’s name. They included The Whole Kitchen Sink of Official Narrative Skepticism so if you were one to question the tripe you receive daily from the MSM about any major event, you were an aider & abettor of OBL and Al Qaeda. And here we see they’re up to their Old Tricks once again. If you question the irregularities & inconsistencies surrounding the Official Narrative of the Boston Bombings, you fit the same profile as this Loon.

That said, I would like to call your attention to one Michael Springmann who was interviewed on a radio interview show called Guns and Butter last 9/5/20015…all about our wonderful military economic system.

He wrote a book on his experience in the State dept where he was supposed to oversee who came into this country from the middle east, only to be stymied by a program that trained religious extremists from Saudi Arabia by our military here in the ole USA back in the late ’80’s

Yes, indeed much was set up in advance.

[Michael Springmann was Chief of the Non-Immigrant Visa Section in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from 1987 to 1989. In his position in Jeddah, he was routinely overruled by superiors when he denied VISA applications submitted by unqualified travelers to the United States. The events of September 11th gave him a more profound understanding of the troubles he experienced in that job. He is the author of “VISAs for Al Qaeda: CIA Handouts That Rocked The World – An Insider’s View”. He describes the American VISAs For Terrorists Program and the Arab-Afghan Legion.]

The date for the shooting was chosen in a very professional way: the birthday of George W. Bush Senior and The Day of Russia – you’re supposed to somehow mark the 90-year anniversary of the 41st President of the United States.

Decent congratulations to such a successful Republican, who managed to defeat the mighty Soviet Union, while the Democrats have such a hard time dealing with Russia, which is much smaller than the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact are now entirely on the side of the United States. In light of these objective facts, Obama looks like a worthless weakling against the backdrop of the Bush Sr.

Why they sent to shoot current employee, not pulled any of their former, but now retired?

The reason, I think, is simple – customers were in a hurry.

So what’s the final bill for the DoS fix?

I’m watching the report concerning the Russian cyberattack targeting the Democratic National Committee which is another term for Democratic Party. Could there be some correlation between this attack and the attacks on Kunstler’s website because he openly claims to be a registered Democrat? How can we be sure Kunstler’s writings translate well to Russian?

Terrorism goes beyond race and religious affiliation. It’s a tactic used by just about every radical group to get attention for their cause, for them to be taken seriously. There’s a new and confusing strain to ISIS that has to do with sexual orientation and sexual tensions. We can assume that ISIS and those ISIS sympathizers are trying to process our varied social problems and how their faith should deal with them since they already are citizens of the Western World. Muslims are not all going to congregate in one country just like homosexuals are not all going to move to San Francisco, CA, NYC or Toronto.

  59. stelmosfire June 14, 2016 at 12:32 pm #

So I’m in eating lunch and BHO is on the tube. Is it ISIS or ISIL? What difference does it make? He says we are currently sending B-52’s to bomb the SH^^ out of ISIL. That ought to make us a few friends! How many civilians will be killed by this? This country is out of control. Now he is calling on us to spy on our neighbors. NO MORE GUNS!! How about the corn fertilizer? Maybe no more No. 2 fuel oil. This jerk is barking up the wrong damn tree. He just said “Radical Islamist” that’s a first.

Back in 2014 Trump censored himself regarding the questions surrounding the semantics of the President. Obviously, Trump is not the only one concerned about what the hell we’re talking about whenever we’re listening or talking about POLITICAL issues vs. MATTERS OF CONSENSUS REGARDING NATIONAL SECURITY.

Personally, I think it’s shameful for anyone to use the loss of life as a political tool, a tool primarily to divide people instead of unite them.
The political parties of countries as well as the so-called “state” of radical islam is being severely tested in regards of HOW they should govern and HOW they should speak in a public forum. Violence is not free speech, never has been. On this we can all agree.

  60. Cold N. Holefield June 14, 2016 at 1:07 pm #

He’s three iterations behind. It was ISIL then ISIS then IS then, and now, Daesh. They have him continuing to use this term as a signal to those in the know that he’s not in the know. What he knows is what his Handlers want him to know, and the fact he continues to refer to Daesh as ISIL is meant to reflect that fact.

Comment here on Mr. K’s 5/30 “Fat Lady Always Sings Twice” since his site problems delayed commenting on that post: you mentioned the 60s & how “women had not yet declared war on men.” After thousands of yrs (since hunter/gatherer days anyway) of women being enslaved, property, 2nd-class citizens–didn’t even get the vote here in the US until 19-f*cking-20!–I guess I can see how our efforts to throw off the chains can be construed as “warlike” by those who’ve been at the top of the socioeconomic foodchain (i.e., white males). And I know, I know, sonny; when you’ve been at the top & people start chipping away at all that privilege, oh it hurts so bad, doesn’t it?! And while I do think you’re right about the coming techno/civilized society collapse, I think you’re wrong to be kinda looking forward to it–the feeling I get from all your bks anyway–to going back to a more “agriculturally-based, sustainable, better-for-humans” lifestyle. But I wouldn’t be in such a hurry for the techno-grid to collapse since that kinder, gentler farming lifestyle you seem to be looking forward to won’t last long: all that nuclear power-plant waste (which stays *deadly* for at least 10,000 yrs) lying around on every continent except Antarctica–if you don’t believe me, chk out this site, nei.org/Master-Document-Folder/Multimedia/Infographics-Database/Used-Nuclear-Fuel-Storage-Map; I see there are almost 4,000 tons of the stuff in your own state– waste which is just barely being kept under control by oodles of tech & people? If/once the grid & population go down for whatever reason(s), that waste will start leaking out into the groundwater all over; then you and every1 else will be so busy throwing up & watching your hair fall out from radiation poisoning, all that simpler, living-off-the-main-grid lifestyle won’t last long. So you might want to, you know, rethink wishing the technogrid would hurry up & fall.

    WARGASM

Now there is little doubt that Hillary represents a party of war, and the feeling that calls her to the White House is called Wargasm. And even those who voted for her in the primaries, do not deny this property of the first female nominee for the post of US president, apparently in the hope that the war, which she will venture them in, to be held under the vast technological superiority of the US Army.

And it may very well be that Hillary’s electoral success and the “endorsement” of Obama are due to the fact that the war party was able to prove to the powers that be that the United States already have some kind of a miracle weapon, presumably, a magnetic railgun, or combat laser that provides Americans with the opportunity to observe World War III on their TV screens, rather than through the windows of their living rooms, as for a long time thanks to Hillary do the people of Serbia, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Syria and, by the way, Russia too.

If this new American “miracle weapon” is not a bluff, the current situation is very similar to 1972, when the career of Hillary Clinton just started. Then President Nixon, recognizing the US defeat in Vietnam, began a policy of detente, which was based on the SALT-1 treaty. But the United States mastered MIRV technology (Multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle), which created the illusion of the possibility of winning a nuclear war, and the mysterious agent “Deep Throat” appeared in “Washington Post” telling the editor that Richard Nixon people were going to install eavesdropping equipment at the headquarters of the election campaign of the presidential candidate of the Democratic party George McGovern, located in a business complex “Watergate.”

This comparison to 1972 is especially important because back then, together with President Richard Nixon went into political oblivion the policy of detente, and limitation of strategic arms, and the Soyuz-Apollo program became a “Star Wars” of Ronald Reagan.

But now the second coming of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to the political Olympus is accompanied by US missile stations in Romania and Poland, followed by the transparent hints by Russia on the readiness to deal a devastating nuclear blow to that system which Hillary Clinton, apparently, promised to deflect either with the railgun, or combat laser.

However, in contrast to 1972, is the haste with which she now has cranked the intrigue with her “endorsement”, fulfilled by tensely smiling President Obama, suggests that the ground is burning under her feet, and Hillary the “Great and terrible” is in a terrible hurry to become if not a US president, then at least the nominee for the post of US president before it turns out that she and her friends have exaggerated a little the powerful and notorious miracle weapon that may resembles not MIRV-technology, but rather the Space Shuttle or the “Star Wars” (SDI) program.

I had no idea you were in Detroit last weekend or I would have taken a trip across the river to hear you speak. Your comments on Windsor as a “kind of wasteland” that had been “beaten with an ugly stick” were unfortunately accurate and most of Windsor’s population will readily agree with you. Like it’s big brother across the river, Windsor is what it is: a post-industrial wasteland traumatized by the loss of its’ manufacturing base and drained of life by suburban sprawl. Of course, both cities boast pockets of genuine urbanism like Walkerville and Indian Village that are both walkable and beautiful. Both cities boast a growing and vocal community of bike enthusiasts, legacy institutions like Wayne State and the University of Windsor, art galleries and museums, a residue of ugly high-rise buildings in the core and a frightening list of problems: chronic poverty, rampant drug addiction, crime, too much vacant land and dying neighborhoods. Hopefully the future will be kinder to both cities than present circumstances but given the proclivities of Canadians and Americans I will put my money on Copenhagen or Prague to survive the coming collapse of industrial civilization,

    • Elrond Hubbard June 14, 2016 at 9:23 pm #

I lived in Windsor most of my life, and for the first 28 years I did so without a car, so I have clear memories of relying on the chronically underfunded and inadequate Transit Windsor to get around.

While Windsor is hardly a model of urbanism, I would also hardly compare it to its much bigger neighbour across the river — there has been nothing like the same hollowing out process, allowing tracts of the city to revert to prairie. The kind of economic brutality that rules in the U.S. and turns entire cities like Detroit and Camden, NJ into “sacrifice zones” tends to get its edges softened in Canada. Probably the biggest single reason for that is universal health care. There’s nothing quite like having the blade of financial ruin relentlessly at their necks to drive people to make ruthlessly self-centered decisions.

As for crime, there’s no comparison. To use the headline number, Windsor sometimes goes entire years at a time without recording a single homicide, and it’s unusual to break double digits — this in a city of 200,000. Everyone knows where the crummy neighbourhoods are (hello, Drouillard Road) but the streets are generally safe.

I found this and I can relate,

The government is recording your phone conversation with the baby sitter.
A guy who can’t speak English is making your 85 year old grandmother take off her shoes at the airport.
An 8 year old kid with a water pistol is handcuffed and taken to jail. “Teens” are turning major cities into free fire zones and battlefields. The first amendment is now called “hate speech”. School teachers are being beat up and raped. Anyone who still uses cash is considered suspicious. People are being stomped and shit kicked at political rallies. Anyone who mentions that America is turning into a third world shit hole is a racist and bigot.
The education system and universities are turning out brain dead morons who still live at home with mommy. Combat veterans are homeless and living on the streets. In large parts of the country the American flag is a symbol of racism and oppression. The government has a file on every book you ever bought and web sight you have visited.
    The elections are rigged.
Crooks and sex perverts are running the country.

Chicks with dicks now share your daughters locker room.

Pedophiles are now normal people who just happen to be misunderstood. The new car you just bought will fall apart in five years. The food you eat is toxic. Eight year old kids are on meds. Your new section 8 neighbors have a meth lab in the garage. Your kids math teacher is a drag queen. Our army generals are lesbians and fags. We have 20 million dollar jet plans that don’t fly. The president and his “wife” hate white people. Peoples brains are being eaten alive with their micro-wave phones and ovens. The gun grabbers want to disarm you so you will be “safe.” Crime is at an all time high. The Mexicans are taking over a fourth of the country. The factories have moved to Communist China.

High-tech computer workers are being replace by people from India who work for $8.00 an hour. Robots will be running the fast food joints and driving city buses. Americans are becoming mind controlled zombies. Sport heroes are nothing but ex street thugs. Movie stars are degenerate perverts and coke heads. The middle class is disappearing. The protesters who can barely read and write are now running the universities. The third world invaders are collecting welfare. The country is swimming in Heroin. Criminals are being paid not to rob and rape people. The Justice Department spends it’s time investigating cops instead of criminals. Two major cities have been set on fire. Your therapist is saving his money for a sex change operation. People are “texting” each other while driving at 75 miles per hour. Street gang members and dope dealers have more rights than the average working man. Having a garden in your back yard will soon be against the law. The “medicine” your doctor is giving you has toxic side effects and causes Cancer. Americans are getting so fat they can hardly walk. The entire political system is totally corrupt. Greed is the God of Washington.

The working class is getting screwed on a daily bases. The welfare class is driving around in new cars while being paid to breed cannon fodder for the street gangs. Blackie has declared war on white people. The Mexicans have declared war on blackie. The Muslims have declared war on everybody. The cities are nothing but cesspools and death traps. Enter at your own risk. How many people in this country have never come home alive after a visit to the local mall. Classes in “white privilege” are being taught at major universities. Campus riots are part of the course. The average American gets dumber by the day. Political protesters are professionally paid agitators and thugs who enjoy beating on people.

“Judge Napolitano agreed, but noted that the Constitution would not allow increased surveillance of Muslims based on their religion.” –Being There

Not for nothing, but the U.S. has been on complete digital lock-down since shortly after 9/11; hence, no foreign-based terrorist act since. Would they announce increased surveillance in any case? So why would they not do it… the Constitution is already shit-paper to them, anyhow.

And besides, our exceptional breed of home grown Lone Wolves, regardless of motive or inspiration, reflect a decay from within, not that you likely disagree. It’s just that people seem to keep re-litigating too far gone circumstance. Tiresome, no?

We have to face the reality that American propagandizing about absolute equality of its citizenry (electing african americans and women to high office) and upholding equality of its citizenry no matter the threat (illegal immigration and terrorism) when it obviously can’t exist in the U.S.A. We see this in the LGBT movement, the Black Lives Matter movement and the Make America Middle Class Again movement. Kunstler is right about what history teaches and the people who get wealthy and “great” are the ones who win wars over resources. If the minorities can win enough court battles to get whatever they want, they’ll get it.

      Malthus,

Minus a few statements that are exaggerations, your post is dead right on the mark, to use an unfortunate metaphor.

“The average American gets dumber by the day.” That’s why the many abuses of power happen without much push-back. We discuss abuses by government here a lot, but corporate abuses not so much.

One example: the car companies seem to be in a race to the bottom to build the ugliest cars possible, It’s not that they lack the ability to make automobiles that are modern, aerodynamic, functional, and attractive or even beautiful. After all, they did just that in the 1980s and 90s.

Then starting soon after the year 2000, it all fell apart, as the ugly era in car design began. Jim could do an eyesore of the month based on hideous cars. I mean, have you seen the Toyota Prius. Or the Nissan Mirano? Or the Nissan Juke? Yet people buy them, without complaint.

If you own a new, ugly car, you have my condolences. You are supposed to have freedom of choice, right? But the corporations give you these options in buying a new car: Buy ugly or buy hideous. Some choice.

        “What’s a lowlife?”

I believe he was referring to me….

Bro Jobe’s posts of late have become a bit…prickly. I would suggest that it is a person of limited gifts who cannot see a shred of wisdom, or even a modicum of humor, in the posts of the resident contrarians.

Regarding Fascism, I fear that the term is often used as a pejorative, due possibly to the excesses of the Italians, and perhaps the Germans, in WWII (Yes, they broke some rules…we get it…OK?) Consider, however that several of the basic tenants of Fascism, were, during WWII, employed in the good old USA…did not Roosevelt control the corporations and labor unions for the good of the war effort? FASCISM! Years later, did not JFK in the early 60’s dictate terms to the steel industry? FASCISM! Did not Ronald Reagan eviscerate the Public Employees Union (Air Traffic Controllers) for their crimes and misdemeanors? Did he not put an end to the Free Speech Movement crap at Berkley (giggle)…fascism.

Bro Jobe should really define his terms…exactly which tenants of Fascism does he consider excessive (or at least worthy of using as a cudgel)? Which tenants might provide for the common good (Did not the trains run on time in Italy)? Would you like the government to exercise more control over the corporations? Why? Why not?

        • Elrond Hubbard June 16, 2016 at 10:55 am #

elysianfield: The examples you give don’t correspond to fascism at all. Unrestrained capitalism (like what we’ve been seeing for the past forty years or so, culminating in the great financial crisis) pretty much always ends up hurting 99% of the population in favor of the 1%. When the 99% are hurting badly enough, normal propaganda and social control measures don’t protect the predators anymore, and the predators may turn to more open violence and coercion to maintain their position. Sometimes this means making common cause with extreme right-wing reactionary types peddling a vision of national, or very often racial, regeneration through violence and scapegoating of minorities. The resulting unification of predatory corporatism with ecstatic unreason goes by the name fascism.

When a democratically-elected government takes measures to control corporate behavior, that may or may not be a good thing, but it’s not fascism. Corporations and the market should be contained within government, not the other way around. Otherwise the rule of law will be for sale (see: K street).

          • elysianfield June 16, 2016 at 11:19 am #

            Elrond,
Of course, Fascism contained, in historical examples, excesses. I was hoping to point to it’s economic tenants, and that some could have merit. The ultra nationalistic, social, and militaristic issues of fascism would be less than positive, if introduced into this (our) maelstrom, as we might soon see….

          • elysianfield June 16, 2016 at 2:11 pm #

            “tenants”

tenet, tenet, tenet, tenet. Fascism is an economic system…one often only conjures the specter of jack booted thugs. Fascism was noted also for the government’s control of business and labor unions.

Communism was principally an economic model…as was National Socialism.

  72. KarlDehrmann June 15, 2016 at 12:26 am #

I attempted to share a “kunstlerian” experience last week before the website went down, and this shooting reinforced my previous experiences. Basically, when traveling on the Ohio turnpike (during Ohio “Bike week”, I found myself sharing rest facilities with Outlaw motorcycle gang members, hijab clad moslems, various people of obvious foreign origin, some weirdos dressed up like the “airbender” movie, balloon people (350lbs+), and the former working class now tattooed and pierced like cannibals. As I stood there, taking it all in, I realized that I was the odd one. I was the one that didn’t fit in to the star wars cantina that America has become. I am in my late 30’s, and due to teenage parents, had the benefit of knowing my WWII generation grandparents well. They loom rather large in the formulation of my world view. America is no longer a country they would recognize.

That experience, along with the descent of political and educational discourse into “identity politics” leaves me feeling pretty alienated as a straight white male with traditional views. I don’t belong to any of the minority groups. My ancestors shed their white “ethnic” identities for a seat at the techno-industrial banquet of America a long time ago. “American” replaced English, German, Irish, etc. as my families ethnic identity. “American” has lost any meaning as a statement of ethnic or cultural identity. “America” is an un-assimilatible mass of degenerates and foreigners. And I am not one of them. I realized, the “American People” President Obama and the politicians speak of are not my people, they just occupy the same landmass and political unit I do.

Having been raised on stories of George Washington and yankee doodle apple pie bullshit, this realization hit me hard for a few days. But as I mulled it over, I realized this will actually be a blessing as we plod onwards into energy descent. You see, my tribe, my sphere of caring, has retreated to my family and circle of close friends. As the inevitable tribulations come, the suffering of my fellow “Americans” isn’t going to bother me anymore than the people starving today in shitholistan. And my ability to mete out violence in service of my family, if necessary, should be less distressing now that the “Americans” are no longer kin.

Which brings me to Orlando. I empathize on an intellectual level, the way you do when you read about the holocaust, or the holodomor, or the deaths from the great leap forward. But a year or two ago I would have partaken in the the hand wringing over the suffering of my fellow Americans. Now I just think an Afghani Moslem killed some Latino Homosexuals. Since no one in my family got hurt, I feel fine.

    • Janos Skorenzy June 15, 2016 at 12:59 am #

Well said. There is no America without Whites – even if they are too brainwashed to know it. All the rest are at best a dilution of the essence. And the Muslims are the anti-thesis. In an oft repeated quote, Justice Holmes said the Constitution is not suicide pact. But for those like Obama who believe in a “living Constitution”, it is.

  73. Janos Skorenzy June 15, 2016 at 2:00 am #

You can’t see if you wont look. And you wont look if you think you already know. Elrong “knows” so he wont look. And if reality doesn’t accord with what he “knows”, then it has to go. Whites smarter than Blacks? A moot or merely academic point once there are no Whites left. He’ll never admit the Truth, preferring to work towards our extinction rather than admit that he was wrong.

    • Frankiti June 15, 2016 at 4:05 pm #

I pretty much feel the same and expressed similar sentiment here earlier. As far as tragedies in the United States, I empathize, but I’m not given to deep emotion. It is a tragedy, but it could have happened in Riga or Phuket. The loss of kindred unity, cultural unity will be the undoing. This will eliminate the traditional warrior class of the armed services; the very people that volunteered as teenagers and young adults in WWII and after 9-11. The military will be dependent upon drones operated by permanent resident green card holders looking for a path to meaningless citizenry (a passport and a voting card) and a robotic cohort. They have said it themselves. Appalachians, Texans, and Southerners (the traditional backbone of the military) have wised up to this. There is really nothing worth fighting for. Illegal aliens that don’t have to register with selective service? Politicians that care more than ever about money and the party than constituents? A president and national elite that detest their ways, their guns, and their privileges? The same elite pumped-out of the same ivy-league schools beholden to an internationalist corporatocracy that believes in $ over any and all social contracts. Jobs to the cheapest, if they can’t sneak in they’ll be H1-B visa’d in by Zuckerberg and his ilk. Profits off-shored rather than taxed to support the infrastructure. Perhaps this is the plan, as the conspiratorial allege. A strategy to bring down borders from within, to make it so vague, so nebulous, as to what an American or Englishman or German is that it becomes meaningless. If it’s not the grand plan, it sure is going that way. In a way yearning to hold onto “American” is as silly as yearning to hold on to “Roman” or “Aztec”. It’s simply not how history works. That would be fine if we were not, like the Romans, staring into a future of truly dark and medieval times. Western civilization is trying to move forward by embracing the backward, the grotesque, the decadent and inhuman. Sharia law, lives online, and colonies on Mars. It’s a future not worth being dragged into. Again, the same people no longer able to look around and see a country worth caring about will be the same people that look forward and see a future not worth capitulating to. This scares the elites, that’s why they are making their moves.

On June 9, 2016 there was a terrible catastrophe of apocalyptic proportions: US President Barack Obama has endorsed Hillary Clinton as the best candidate for the US presidency.

Well, it would seem – a standard procedure, the democratic president recommended a leading Democratic presidential candidate – what’s he big deal?! What is there to be upset about?! And anyway, how could it be otherwise? He couldn’t have endorsed Bernie Sanders after he blew California, right?

But the interesting thing is that the catastrophic “endorsement” of Hillary Clinton lies entirely in the symbolic plane and awareness of this simple fact divide our lives into two parts: before June 9, 2016 and after. We live in a different world, where there are no Jeffersonian democracy, and the United States are no longer the ally of Russia in the Great Patriotic War.

Actually, those who always believed the United States to be eternal enemy of Russia, and Jeffersonian democracy just a mirage in a desert, probably laugh at the chagrin of those who appreciate these rather ephemeral substances in our gross material world. But the difference between the world in which we lived before June 9, and the one we live now, they will notice on their own skin very quickly, perhaps more quickly than those miserable idealists who hoped to see again Roosevelt’s America and the Yalta world.

No matter what are the reasons why President Obama “endorsed” Hillary Clinton: due to the coup d’état of the war party, or by virtue of the agreements that they struck in 2008, thanks to which he became president. It is important that the world no longer has a symbolic figure – President Obama, who until June 9 was like a padlock locking the gates of hell and devastating nuclear crisis.

No more Obama, who in 2009 received the Nobel Peace Prize for not letting Senator McCain and Hillary Clinton to the White House, and in 2013 did not allow bombing of Syria.

Moreover, together with the symbolic figure of Obama’s is gone 200-year-old Jeffersonian democracy, and the first to understand that were the supporters of Senator Sanders, who an hour before this disaster came from the White House, beaming after a private conversation with Obama and expressing hope that the California votes will be counted honestly, clearly hinting that was what the president promised. And this “endorsement” came an hour later.

And in this situation, what supporters Sanders are concerned about?

First of all, they require that Sanders does not dare to pass Hillary database with the names of his supporters and their contact information. Moreover, they are clearly not afraid of intrusive harassment of Hillary requests to vote for her, but of specific persecution on political grounds, which has nothing to do with the Jeffersonian democracy.

And now instead of the US Democratic Party, there is the National Socialist Party of Hillary Clinton, as socialism, which Bernie Sanders slipped in to her in conjunction with her foreign policy is the National Socialism in a chemically pure form.

In this paradigm, the main theme of the elections in the United States is bound to be opposition of National Socialism and Fascism, which she attributes to Donald Trump, who really looks a bit like Mussolini.

While other choices could there be in a country where there was a coup d’état?

    • Being There June 15, 2016 at 8:34 am #

      Agreed.
I think this is a real turning point although you could say that when Kennedy was killed and then RFK and MLK the country was turned in a new direction that killed progressivism.

It was a matter of time that this would become apparent that there is no real differences between the two parties when it comes to the unipolar hegemony this country seeks using it’s EU and NATO members as puppets and ones we would screw in a heartbeat.

Take Russia. I keep saying that the Europeans should be putting a muzzle on us about drumming up war with Russia. We’ve been surrounding Russia with Anti-ballistic missiles in her former satellites since the ’90’s when Bubba was in office. So if we engage in “limited” nuclear war, we have not figured in protection of our allies—-Radiation doesn’t recognize borders, signs or barbed wire fences with checkpoints.

We have a Neocon theory that no country is allowed to challenge anything we want to do in the world and that if one does it’s an act of war. AND our presumptive Democratic Party nominee is on board with that. She is pre-emptive war gal, and she said it on the TV.

Here’s something you need to know. She called Putin a “Hitler” and then later when interviewed about preemptive war she said (not a quote), Well imagine if we had killed Hitler before he became a problem. MHMMM game set and match?

And I haven’t even gone into the email and speaking fees and the foundation. Another can of worms. Assange claims he’s going to RELEASE THE EMAILS…..WHEN?

Yes and Trump is a total disaster (to be discussed another time).

Meanwhile, the father of the young Afghan was spotted at the entrance to the Hillary offices and Barack Obama got burned big time, deciding to take this opportunity to preach the additional regulation of arms sales giving Trump the pretext to accuse him of partiality to the “radical Islamic terrorism” and demand the resignation.

Then it turned out that Afghan-homophobe is a latent homosexual and has all imaginable and unimaginable licenses to buy and carry weapons and could easily have slipped through the proposed regulation of the second amendment to the Constitution.

Against this background, Trump rating now compared to Bastinda sharply jumped up, and Obama’s approval rating plunged from 53% to 48%.

Russia, meanwhile, looked at all this mess and decided to carry out exercises in mobilization readiness. That is to check the readiness to beef-up partially-stuffed divisions, clothe and equip millions of conscripts.

Next step in this direction – a partial mobilization, bringing the army to 3 million bayonets, with experience of fighting in Chechnya and Georgia, fully armed with weapons of the late 80s and 2000s and trained according to the standards.

Of course in addition to the existing units of permanent combat readiness of the tank Armata, Su-35 and other toys of generation 4++.

    • JimInFlorida June 15, 2016 at 6:33 pm #

Chechnya and Georgia were short duration scuffles and terror events. They don’t count.

The last time Russia was involved in a long war that actually forges large and experienced armies was its Afghan war of the 1980’s. A war it would have easily won if the CIA wasn’t loading up the Taliban with Stinger missiles and other weapons that the ragheads could never have acquired on their own.

As for recent Chechen wars, they were fought in the 1990’s while the Soviet estate was in tatters and the Red Army barely funded and equipped.

Thus, Moscow hasn’t fielded the kind of long duration imperial actions that are routine for the Pentagon. Moscow needs to take a page from the Washington playbook of the 1980’s and 1990’s. In that era, the Imperial War Machine was recovering from a decade of stagnation, demoralization, and lack of purpose. Reagan got us involved in two-bit confidence-building wars in Grenada, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Taliban in Afghanistan.

GHW Bush Sr was too busy selling us out and laying the groundwork for Bill Clinton. Bill and Hillary fought a coward’s war and threw thousands of missiles at Serbia to punish Slobodon Milosevic for blocking a massive oil and gas pipeline to the Mediterranean. About one year after the imperial slaughter, oil and gas tankers were filling up and making Wall Street happy.

Greater and greater imperial wars built our confidence to do what was planned back in September 11, 1991, with GHW Bush’s “New World Order” speech. TRY AND SAY THERE’S NO CONSPIRACY THERE, JHK!

Moscow will have to do the same to build up its muscles and present a force of will that the Pentagon dares not provoke.

Successful test of the U-74 supersonic glider(speed up to 12MACH), launched with the help of an intercontinental ballistic missile RS-18A “Stiletto” from Dombarovsky launch pad near Orenburg on target in Kamchatka caused extreme concern of he command of the US armed forces.

Although the test details were not disclosed, at the moment it is known that they ended with complete success, which overturns the whole concept of the US missile defense system.

U-74 glider was developed under the program 4202 on creation of headunits of new Russian strategic ballistic missiles “Sarmat”, which is intended to replace the standing missile “Satan” in 2020 – 2022. One missile “Sarmat” can carry up to 24 U-74 gliders with nuclear equipment and within an hour to hit any target in a range of up to 6,000 miles.

Sanders immunity against Hillary is much stronger than Trump’s. As a result, they met and Hillary representatives said that the discussion was “positive”.

And the media is groaning with desire to find anything that indicates readiness of Sanders to surrender. And they do not find! Sanders walked away without saying anything, pale with rage. I think he will be going to sleep up to 11 hours at least.

Sleeping pills, sedative, etc. etc. And then he’ll show them! Although most terrible blow the coup would suffer if in the coming days he will not give away anything, leaving the conspirators nervous. Let’s see what nerves Hillary’s actually got.

well, the commentary about the Orlando attack was premature apparently. The killer blamed isis but he really had nothing to do with isis and had “cased out” the gay spot a couple of times a week for at least 2 years and was on gay hookup and chat sites, so you do the math. What is really crucial here is extreme homophobia here and self loathing on this mad mans part due to general society disapproval of gays……….of which Kunstler is regularly and notoriously a guilty party in this respect. So Jim baby, some of the guilt for this massacre lies on your bigoted shoulders, buddy. The comment about Clinton supporters maybe having a hand in hacking your site is typical of your paranoia about practically everything. Jimmy, suggest you have those daily meds adjusted to smooth you out a bit more.

It seems to me that being critical of the current rush to celebrate degeneracy is a perfectly reasonable stance. That’s a far cry from being anti-gay.

You need to apologize to Jim for your misguided accusation. I am being much too polite. (See first paragraph,)

This is what social change looks like: going from violent rejection to not just acceptance, but warm and loving acceptance because gays and trans people have been rejected for so long for what most people now recognize was no good reason.

The moment will end soon enough, and people will get over congratulating themselves. Then later generations will wonder what all the fuss was about.

The moment will end soon enough? What makes you think so? It never ended for Blacks. You see All Wrong, if you tell people how great they are and how terrible you are, they will believe you. If you write them a moral blank check, they will cash it – and be back for more. The more of a moral pauper they are, the quicker they will be back. Rodney King went thru his three million dollar settlement in a couple of years.

You folks have done you job all too well. You’ve taught young people that Whites are scum and deserve to be destroyed. Both young Whites and young Minorities believed you. Thus society is now divided in Eloi and Morlocks, Bug Chasers and Gift Givers.

But you know this. Equal results is the Agenda hiding behind your equal rights. And behind equal results, just around the corner, is equal income, property, and everything else. Sarkozy already ordered the French to breed with Muslims voluntarily. If they refuse, other measures will have to be taken.

    • Janos Skorenzy June 15, 2016 at 7:37 pm #

Are you kidding? Society worships Gays now. You are just having trouble accepting that you all were so wrong about Islam. • Janos Skorenzy June 15, 2016 at 7:41 pm #

There are many people guilty about being Gay. But if such people are male Afghans from devout Muslim families with connections to the Taliban and with training with military weapons, they warrant special consideration.

I remind you, he called himself ISIS and ISIS acknowledged his claim. I mean, what the hell is wrong with you? Do you not know they throw Gays off buildings?

I’m watching a documentary called “The Gift” about bug chasers and gift givers. In last years Synod on the Family, one of the “theologians” said “Gays have gifts.”

The mentalities vary, but they are all horrible. One big group seem terrified of getting HIV, so to relieve the tension and fear, they have a Party with “Poz” men to make sure they do get it! Up thread Dumb expressed the same principle politically: since we know how bad Hillary will be but don’t know how bad Trump will be, we should vote for Hillary.

They interview a group of older gays who are positive and a psychologist. These men provide contrast, knowing that the gay community is completely insane on this issue. They explain that in attempting to be compassionate, they ended up indulging the narcissism that is so much a part of modern American and Gay psychology. Thus being positive became first neutral, then positive, and then something to be sought. Being negative is just something negative since it’s being better than other people.

The same psychology come into play trying to keep these guys from donating blood. They are offended! So what if someone dies. My feelings are more important!

This may have happened to others here. i have not read all the comments.

Monday morning, June 13, I tried to go to the CFN website and got the page saying the website was down, due to the DoS attack. Throughout Monday and Tuesday, about every two hours, I tried to access the website but got the same message stating that the site was down.

Then, this morning, Wednesday, i was very happy to be able to get the site to open. After which I immediately noticed that there were already over 200 comments. That seemed like a lot of comments for such a short time.

Then I started noticing the dates on the comments. Many if not most were from Monday and Tuesday. Those were the days when I was getting the “website down due to brutal DoS attack” message every time I tried to go to the website.

If I don’t hear otherwise, I will assume I am the only one who had this problem.

    • JimInFlorida June 15, 2016 at 6:02 pm #

Amend Section 1 of the 14th Amendment to explicitly deny citizenship by birth alone, where either, or both, parents are not at least 2nd generation citizens. In other words, children born to new naturalized parents must be evaluated at their 18th birthday before granting citizenship. Only then can THEIR children enjoy automatic citizenship at birth. The land has a way of shaping people who eventually become fit to live on it and that takes time.

Citizenship must have value and must not be gained by special means not available to persons from White countries.

REPEAL the Diversity VISA of the Immigration Act of 1990. Therein lies the core of the immigration cancer.

Become civilized, which means the RIGHT of established peoples to determine who may join their polity and share the fruits therein. Fewer massacres come from within well-established and harmonious demographics. Diversity destroys cohesion.

      • Frankiti June 15, 2016 at 8:07 pm #

What does citizenship really mean? A passport, a mere key on a keychain, a right to vote between 2 assh*les, and the right to be taxed on income earned overseas while overseas. It’s a raw deal. In fact, I advocate Americans declaring themselves illegal or at the very least, permanent residents. No selective service, no income tax abroad, and an excuse not to suffer the indignity of voting.

      • wpa_ccc June 16, 2016 at 4:53 am #

“the RIGHT of established peoples to determine who may join their polity”

Yes, this is what we have done. This is what defines America. This is what we will continue to do: encourage and accept diversity through admission of immigrants. To go against that is un-American.

No, sometimes the answer is no. My cat like to catch and eat moths. I caught another kind of bug inside my house and offered it to her. The cat refused it, sensing that it was no good for her body. Thus so, Muslims are no good for the American Body Politic. You need to learn to sing the Body Electric, and stop feasting on Doritos, Coke, Mexicans, Muslims and other psychic junk food.

        • JimInFlorida June 17, 2016 at 7:44 am #

          You misunderstand.

The “established peoples” of the U.S. have had unwanted 3rd world immigration rammed down their throats! We have NOT been allowed to determine who may join our collective polity since 1965.

Washington went beyond ignoring our protests and began flaunting its contempt for White America with the DIVERSITY VISA Program contained in the Immigration Act of 1990. The explicit goal is demographic pollution. Diversity is chaos. Even the human body will die if it is invaded by unwanted organisms that are hostile to its design.

To willfully undermine the legacy population i.e. White, is un-American. …….yes, yes, the Indian tribes were here first but, they do NOT represent the POLITY and the BODY-POLITIC that envisioned and built what we used to enjoy and live in.

    • KarlDehrmann June 16, 2016 at 9:50 am #

      A couple of points here:

      1. You “liberals” are some of the most intolerant asshats that have ever walked the earth. You claim to support diversity, but regularly shout down the free speech of people you disagree with (trump rallies). You also think its perfectly acceptable to throw around ethnic and gender slurs provided they are against straight white men. What if I said “Should add that the majority here are female and queer in addition to being mostly female and black. Here is a nest of angry darky whiners! Fortunately, that demographic constitutes a minority of the general population.” Is that okay? I didn’t think so.

      2. Cisgender is a stupid word that really refers to a mentally healthy state of being with respect to ones body. Transgenderism is a mental disorder that should be treated by healthcare professionals not promoted as an “alternative” lifestyle. Did you know that 41 percent of “transgender” people have attempted suicide? Thats higher than the prisoners in Nazi death camps. You cant tell me life is tougher for “transgender” people in America than it was for Jews in the death camps.

      3. Although the majority of white men may look (and sometimes act) like a bunch of pussy pushovers, it is primarily because we actually have something to lose right now by pushing back against the rising tide of progressive bullshit (families, jobs, property, financial assets). But everyone has a line in the sand. Everyone. I believe in a natural right to self defense and preservation. To me this means the right to own a gun. I don’t care what the bill of rights says, I have a right to self defense because I am alive and every animal in existence has a self preservation instinct . If anyone from the government attempts to confiscate my weapons, I will resist with force. I know I am not alone in this stance.

      • wpa_ccc June 16, 2016 at 4:03 pm #

“What if I said “Should add that the majority here are female and queer in addition to being mostly female and black. Here is a nest of angry darky whiners! Fortunately, that demographic constitutes a minority of the general population.” Is that okay?”

If it is true, of course it is OK. You are creating a false equivalency.

It is OK to criticize whites because of their immorality.

Black queer women did not set up systematized slavery for economic gain. White immoral cisgender Christian men did.

Black queer women did to engage in a genocide of 15 million native peoples. White immoral cisgender Christian men did.

Black queer women did not drop an atomic bomb on civilian population centers. White immoral cisgender Christian men did.

If Black queer women were engaging in immorality, creating millions of deaths through slavery, genocide, and war, then, of course I would be criticizing them. I am not a hypocrite.

But the truth is that white cisgender Christian men are the immoral ones in history. It is just an undeniable fact.

      cit·i·zen [?sidiz?n, ?sidis?n]

      NOUN

a legally recognized subject or national of a state or commonwealth, either native or naturalized:
      “a Polish citizen”
synonyms: national · subject · passport holder · native
an inhabitant of a particular town or city:
      “the citizens of Los Angeles”
synonyms: inhabitant · resident · native · townsman

      ORIGIN

Middle English: from Anglo-Norman French citezein, alteration (probably influenced by deinzein ‘denizen’) of Old French citeain, based on Latin civitas ‘city’ (see city).

      ***

a citizen is a legal term meaning it comes with certain rights and advantages that visitors to the place do not have. people can buy citizenship like you can buy a house. if the goal is limiting citizenship, equating it to property rights/having to declare a primary residency in the county/city, would seem to work for awhile until citizens lose their homes. does economic disparity mean you lose your citizenship? gentrification of cities would go along with this.

then you would have the added complications of expanding residency in order to afford the dwelling; having children and acquiring family members like parents, uncles and cousins. we see this happening in California and Texas regarding Chinese and Mexicans. Pregnant Chinese buy a closet in a home that may or may not be owned by Chinese-Americans in order to have their child born in the U.S.A. and abide by the Chinese 2 baby limit. Pregnant Mexicans who work in the U.S.A. also have their babies in the U.S.A. or Mexican-Americans allow their family sanctuary during pregnancy and allow the child to live with them to take advantage of the public school system.

The act of having children in and of itself is a problem for citizens economically and politically because it is not always in the best interest of the state. Children can be a burden on the state and they have free will, tend to rebel against the establishment and do not vote down party lines.

It seems the closeted gay Afghan with a fondness for Jihad and AR15s was not the culprit after all! The military-industrial group that led Obama to power was seeking a postponement for critical 15-20 years of dollar collapse for the full rehabilitation of the financial system (the rejection of the dollar without rehabilitation will quickly lead to a repetition of the situation), the United States re-industrialization and the decline of its import dependency by lowering oil consumption, social modernization and implementation of Tesla technology, resuscitation of bipartisan US political system and the priority of US national interests over the interests of the Military Industrial Complex and NATO.

The “rehabilitation of the financial system” could be achieved, for instance, by annual devaluation of dollar against gold and world currencies by about 10%.

Accordingly, those who are behind Hillary Clinton, are firmly opposed to that and will purposefully destroy all that was achieved by Obama Administration.

For example, low oil prices is a death sentence to Tesla and solar panels, and Tesla + high oil prices is a death sentence to GM.

The attempt by that group to support dollar on artificially high level would definitely mean war.

“I might be the BackRowHeckler, ha, but I have a front row seat to the biggest freak show going since the Obama inauguration in DC back in ’08.” —

Pssht… as if the Freak Show started in ’08, as though a vote in the opposite direction at the time excuses one’s overall subtle complicity in current events. Yes, I’m saying it: folks like this, the right or left-leaning “unecessariat,” are not only observers but circus acts themselves, head over heels in elephant and donkey shit.

Seriously, the cognitive dissonance demonstrated in the mentalities of all inhabitants of the voter spectrum is amazingly stark. No wonder the Elite have sought to control and enslave these dangerous simpletons using all modern means. Did they have any choice?

What would rectify the travesty this culture has become is a self-rapture. If the consistent, intellectually deluded and dishonest voting public spanning 40+ years would only do the rest of us a favor and off themselves, we might stand a chance as a species. Well, OK, let’s offer some parameters: first, if you voted twice for any two-term pres beginning with perhaps Reagan, you might want to kill yourself.

If after a given partisan’s first-term you failed to clue-in to the continuing scheme, you’re a fucking idiot, period; although, one vote for any such pres in the past might be forgivable. There was a time when someone could believably say that they tried to make a good voting choice despite circumstance. That is in NO WAY true for 2016.

Oh, another caveat — if you abstained from voting you’re not necessarily off the hook, either. If you chose not to vote, and sincerely knew the ideas for why a vote was pointless anyhow, then fine, you can authentically say that you took a principled stand. However, if you’re just fucking lazy and DON’T vote out of sheer apathy and ignorance, or, Do vote for exactly the same reasons, you really ought to kill yourself, too. There is no “better” side to be on today, nor can one simply toss hands in the air without doing the work to accurately discover the essence of the issues.

    Lastly,
if you’re one of these unerringly aggrieved and relentlessly partisan limp-dicks who keep betting the farm on the latest political gimmick… well… Who am I kiddin’? If you could stop you would.

“If you go to You Tube, you can find a short talk on how the
Tele Tubbies are anti White propaganda. I found it eye opening.” —

WOW, ladies and gentlemen… this was actually submitted as worthwhile discourse, as a viable point for discussion.

To be fair, I’m actually more and more sympathetic to claims about the increasing anti-white sentiment (abbreviated code: Privilege) pervading, for example, academia, viz lazy-minded pop culture studies — a outgrowth of an increasingly dumb student body and populace that cannot succeed in other challenging disciplines. The growing campaign against whiteness is real and worth concern. This is where upcoming intellects are landing, and it’s possibly the number one reason this society will continue to fall.

I’ve identified campus liberals who are poorly trained in analytical methods, let alone hard science hypothesis testing, who therefore seek professional status in aimless fields of qualitative social criticism. This instructional/educational tract foolishly promulgates, intentionally or not, the anti-privilege (anti-white) description/explanation for causes of today’s dominant issues. White privilege and patriarchy, to my mind, have become generic distractions, used to ignore and thus perpetuate more sinister and consequential totalitarian foes.

Here’s an example of what I speak, perhaps just as tedious as a teletubby study (sorry for the embed):youtube.com/watch?v=O_z2v42F0E0

The above quoted dumbfuckery, however, is exactly the same empty bullshit we see in so called liberal perspectives yet in reverse, thus, unfortunately, and possibly beyond JHK’s control, much of the commentary on CFN has devolved into the right’s version of just the same distraction.

    Eye opening.

And the Police Chief – a member of La Raza – did the right thing when he told the police to stand down since to act would encourage mob violence.

In terms of a greater context: Whites are the bug chasers and Minorities are the gift givers. Try this trope as you will, it will hold. Whites are degenerates and are being savaged by Minorities and Muslims. The Whites who stand above this are hated by both the bug chasers and gift givers, but especially the bug chasers. How dare they be so negative! Minorities are our friends. Are they not giving us the “gift” of death and replacement?

Although I am reluctant to admit it, Janos is correct about the Soros funded anti-Trump goons. The real racism is their recruitment based on their brown skin. The DNC and Soros and ilk know it’s a get out of criticism card. The media presents it a certain way, and the dimwits, as always consume, never sniffing first.

Good instinct, 3D. Being a first-class bigot, Janos isn’t capable of engaging in debate based on an agreed set of facts. He feels entitled to invent accusations at will.

Once Janos senses criticism or opposition, instead of engaging your case on its merits he’ll reach into his bag of pet grievances and start ticking off what “in other words” you actually mean in his mind. Defend gays and you must be a supporter of pederasty. Suggest the law be applied equally to all and you’re engaged in genocide of white people. Suggest the right exhibits some pathologies seen on the left and he puts words into your mouth about criminal protesters at a Trump rally. Welcome to the party!

      D,
In my dotage, I have come to learn many things…one of which is to be less than strident in response to opposing views…and never publicly dismissive. The human condition reveals that we are capable of any act, or thought, however inhumane, or convoluted. In my youth, things were black and white…the answers to life’s issues obvious…after 70 years, not so much. In my youth, I knew everything…if I continue studying, until my penultimate breath, I will probably find I know nothing at all….

There is a thing called ‘the royal we’. by the way, which is what the monarch uses, or used to. In ordinary conversation if someone says ‘we’ll do this or that’ the question often asked is, ‘Is that the royal we?’, that is, ‘speak for yourself’.’

  99. volodya June 16, 2016 at 2:35 pm #

No one knows what to do about it including of course, the blowhard Trump.

Yes, we know, stopping Muslim immigration won’t stop already-resident nuts like Mateen. And, who knows, it might incite more Mateen-like crazies.

Having said that, what’s on tap from Trump’s opponents? Nothing that I could hear except the usual admonitions against Islamophobia and, seeing as the massacre happened in a gay nightclub, homophobia too.

So, a two-for-one bloodfest this was, and again, the high and the mighty get to preach on our moral short-comings. But they also call them PHOBIAS as if referring to derangements of the psychiatric sort. Repent, repent and sin no more our betters all say. And you’re not only bad but crazy too. These sermons are now as routine as the routine mass killings by Muslims on U.S. soil.

It’s not as if Orlandos and San Bernardinos aren’t a God-send to the Oligarchs and their supporting coastal clerisies. Not as if a few dozen dead here and there are the of slightest concern to them. But these things are a marvelous distraction and serve as made-to-order justifications for surveillance. Of who? You and me, that’s who. Muslim terror after all is the least of their worries. And I won’t bother to point out the obvious, that this site was subject to denial of service attacks. Yeah, it might have been Clinton’s wealthy friends. More likely I think is the more sinister alternative. IMO JHK is not being paranoid enough.

To give Trump a smidgen of credit, sometimes the most simplistic solutions are the most do-able. As we’ve all seen in our various dealings with different branches of government, bureaucracies are utterly incapable of enacting anything except the most uncomplicated of policies.

So let’s suppose that stopping Muslim immigration took the form of stopping immigration from 33 high risk countries as Rand Paul suggested. Is it simple? Of course it is. Is it do-able? Of course it’s do-able. Even the most slothful, slovenly collection of unionized, do-nothing government bureaucrats could manage it.

Is it a complete solution? No, but as they say, when you’re in a hole, stop digging. Or, at least, slow down.

    • Janos Skorenzy June 16, 2016 at 3:15 pm #

In the old days, people were only allowed to come here when we needed them. And each was checked. And it wasn’t a rubber stamp – many of them were refused. Unless we return to this mentality we are doomed. Simple as that. Is it doable? Technically, of course. Does it make sense? Of Course! Is it moral – of course, once you realize self preservation is the first morality as Jefferson said.

Face it: the main obstacle is the bizarre idealism that we MUST allow anyone who want to come here to do so. Who said? When did it start? It’s quite recent after all. Trace That meme back and tell us what you find. I already know – the same people who opened our borders to the 3rd World in 1965 using Ted Kennedy as a front man. A few decades later they became the Neo Cons. They might become Monarchists next. Ideas are just vehicles of ethnic advancement to them.

    • 3D June 16, 2016 at 4:28 pm #

“As we’ve all seen in our various dealings with different branches of government, bureaucracies are utterly incapable of enacting anything except the most uncomplicated of policies…

Next, the intellectual dishonesty in full swing:

…let’s suppose that stopping Muslim immigration took the form of stopping immigration from 33 high risk countries” — Volodya

In effort to not be strident or dismissive… there is a distinct difference between simple and simplistic. Trump sure as hell doesn’t know the difference. Also, notice the euphemistic use of the phrase “high risk countries.”

None of the ideas or solutions Trump represents are his, and he does not posses the intellectual gravitas to bring any of them to bear. The people who love to flirt with adopting Trump’s idiocy as their own simultaneously try to hide behind see-through lingerie of practical reason. This is cynical while also humorous. They tacitly admit the same shortcoming in Brand Trump, while nevertheless failing to recognize the misplaced blame for any number of current problems, leaving the door wide open for the despicable HRC and warhawk neo-liberals to hijack the train.

Furthermore, implementing immigration protocols in order to enact a Dirty 33 policy is a simplistic solution while also being no simple task. Let’s move ten steps closer to a becoming a full Police State and enacting marshal law, shall we?

The simple solution, that still misses the point, is to prohibit all immigration, so that this country can get its shit together. This will never happen, nor will the banning of Dirty 33, and everyone here ought to already know why.

        3D,

Since Q is on vacation, I must step into the fray and offer a spelling correction:

        “…enacting marshal law, shall we?”

        “Martial” law.

. Suspending immigration from 33 “crescent and scimitar” countries, until such time as a careful analysis of why Yzlamik jihad originates in Yzlamik countries – and what solution is actually required to end it is implemented, is actually quite a good idea. Coupled with very strict visa requirements for all “visitors” from said nations and that, I think, would be a fine starting point on one front in addressing global jihad and its murderous ways. (US ending Neo Con policies and endless meddling in Yzlamik countries another; national law enforcement infrastructure being vigilant in locating, identifying, and removing Yzlamik jihadi elements; permanent deportation for jihadis and sympathizers; no halal anything in prison;…. etc.)

I haven’t really seen anybody talk about the similarities between the Sanders voters and the Trump voters. Both sides are the same as far as their dissatisfaction with the status quo. Both sides are looking outside the choices that are presented by the powers that be, and trying to put someone in the driver’s seat who represents the Hoi Polloi, rather than the usual collection of pukes who tell the masses what they think they want to hear, and then once elected, give it all away to the entrenched powers that be. Not that I agree with the Republicans, however, I understand their anger. 20 years ago, the idea that people outside of the cantidates that were presented would have a chance of success, would have been unthinkable. Both sides are identical in the fact that they are tired of the corruption on both sides. That much they share. The solutions are different on both sides, but the fact remains that both sides are aware of the level of corruption that now exists within both parties, and are trying to change it. Thus, you have Trump on the one hand, and Bernie on the other. Both choices show that the people are tired of the way the gov’t is being controlled by the powers that be. Trump is a facist, and Hillary has sold out a long time ago. I am voting for her, even though I know that the lesser of two evils is still evil. I apoligise for the long windedness of this post, but it seemed that this needed to be said.

There’s a lot of sleeping demons out there and, through various self-serving policies, the Oligarchs and their top 10 percent servants of the professional and managerial and so-called creative-class are doing their level best to wake them.

Paul Ryan with his OCD-like repetition of the terms “tax-cuts” and “entitlement reform” is one of the chief demon-pokers. By now, given the Bernie and Trump phenomenon, even the most obdurate “principled conservative” can see that trouble is afoot. People know that entitlement “reform” is nothing of the sort. Rather it’s entitlement elimination. A most reasonable interpretation would be every man for himself and the devil take the hindmost.

I couldn’t be bothered to point out to people who obviously think they’ll never be one of the hindmost, that they could easily end up exactly that. Maybe Ryan is one of them. Given a few twists and turns of fortune or misfortune, they could find themselves one of the unemployed, penniless, scrawny, soup-kitchen, rooming-house inmates that they presently scorn.

Better think twice about trade policies and tax policies and social policies that serve to impoverish the many for the benefit of the few. Because you don’t know if you’ll be one of the many or one of the few.

NATO has recognized that Russia can seize the Baltic States within three days, but even the most desperate dreamers in Brussels understand that this can happen only if NATO manage to concentrate in the Baltic States sufficiently large forces so that Russia, due to historical memories associated with June 22 1941, will have no choice but to strike pre-emptively in response to NATO pretending to contain Russia, rather like a bitch in heat is trying to contain the male aggression with red lipstick, high heels and a mini skirt.

But in itself this action is so meaningless in the nuclear-missile age, so any benefits to Russia are miniscule, even after the full success of the aforementioned defeat of NATO, I absolutely can not imagine that after Russia get started on that “containment” it’ll stop on the shores of the Baltic Sea, and not reach within these aforementioned three days, let’s say, the English Channel, the Bosporus and Gibraltar. And knowing the traditions of the Russian pre-empt to repel the aggression, I’m not sure that the Russian soccer fans, dressed in military uniforms, will stop even there!

Most people lump in the Muslim ban with Trump’s whole cult of solutions to the border problem: build a wall. So, the OTHER countries down south who tend to share in criminal and loathsome activities on par with terrorism (chopping off heads and enslaving the desperate youth) are afraid the temporary ban won’t stop with openly declared Muslims and Muslim states. What if it works and then people are more open to temporarily banning Mexicans and South Americans?
If it still works after the first 4 years of the temporary bans, then it’ll include Chinese and Russians.
Then, to make everyone feel better, there might just be a temporary ban on ALL immigration/migration/VISAS to the United States.

“What if I said “Should add that the majority here are female and queer in addition to being mostly female and black. Here is a nest of angry darky whiners! Fortunately, that demographic constitutes a minority of the general population.” Is that okay?”

If that was true, of course that would be OK. But it is not true. You are creating a false equivalency. Black queer women have been the victims of white immorality throughout history.

3D, you missed the word “smidgen” in the phrase “smidgen of credit”. And yeah, I know the difference between simple and simplistic and yeah, I meant to use the word simplistic. Why? Because I’m using it in the sense of “overly simple”.

Why? Because the banning of immigration from so-called high-risk countries ie Muslim, is an overly simple solution and would be of limited benefit, in fact, the effect could be the exact opposite. Just like I said in my post.

But, being “simplistic”, that is, overly simple, it is therefore simple and perhaps therefore do-able. But not a complete solution even if there is one to be found.

If you want assert that banning immigration from certain countries and enforcing the ban is no simple task, then I would question the competence of American immigration services. Are they incapable of performing the most basic functions?

Or is incompetence a built-in feature, one designed to benefit the interests of the ruling class?

    • 3D June 16, 2016 at 7:38 pm #

“If you want assert that banning immigration from certain countries and enforcing the ban is no simple task, then I would question the competence of American immigration services. Are they incapable of performing the most basic functions?” –V

Basic functions of immigration reform? Well, in the generic, logistic sense that you’ve suggested, screening countries/individuals, especially using digital record keeping, is indeed basic, though the political ideal(s) behind these implements are much less so. American bureaucracy can ably handle the former but not the latter, without openly tossing basic fundaments of America’s origin and development out the fucking window on the highway like a fast food trash bag for all to see.

The Elite are certainly smart enough not to risk an outright display of hypocrisy (let’s forget the U.S. Patriot Act exists for a moment), as to do so might actually scare up a stampede of genuine revolt, so they pursue the policy(ies) by other means. The Elite don’t say such things (i.e., ban Muslims) aloud because it would betray a hidden purpose, not their incompetence. On the other hand, Trump does say such things loudly because he’s phony tough, plus incompetent, and doesn’t really understand the issue(s) to begin with. He merely blows dog whistles (See Janos arf).

I certainly don’t forget that political technologies for sorting and classifying undesirables and discarding unwanted influence were perfected long ago. Sophisticated techniques were incorporated into policy via scientific public management rather easily since forever ago. This is the darker problem you have mislocated within the “trouble with Muslims” meme. I’d say I’m surprised you fell for this, but I’m not. I’d say I’m surprised that so many fell for Trump and Bernie, but I’m not.

The Trump and Bernie bowel movements from this election harvest mark the digestion of the Tea Party and OWS hopefuls. Their constituents never factored into the grand scheme. Their constituents were co-opted and devoured in public. No serious person took anything Trump said seriously (Grandpa Heart-Bern, either). And look at Trump now, swirling ’round the toilet bowel of presidential election history, despite the effort and misery of a few clingy butt hairs. And Bernie is little more than reflux washed over with Hillary-Pepto-Clinton.

“Or is incompetence a built-in feature, one designed to benefit the interests of the ruling class?” — V

Half right. The argument that the Elite are incompetent has no legs. The public as incompetent, well, that’s a more interesting thought. An incompetent public as benefiting the interests of the ruling class, you betcha! There’s no blaming an Other for that.

What is one man’s good is another man’s evil. Peace cannot be achieved by war. Evil can only be overcome by understanding, the destructive rage which has its roots in our deepest bodily fear. Hitler unleashed this destructive rage and Trump with his rhetoric is unleashing this same rage against the other, the projected evil. On the other side the same psychological processes are at work. Buddhism’s first noble truth is that we suffer, our common state, our zombie state.
Suffering comes from ignorance. Peace can only come with understanding

Nothing like a westerner’s take on buddhism, probably after reading a book on mindfulness and a year of yoga sessions. Suffering is. Are all wars goos against evil to reach peace? Must evil manifest as destructive rage? Seeking peace and not suffering is slavery to the will. It leaves wanting, it demands wanting.

    • AHtheHumanity June 17, 2016 at 8:18 am #

Peace can most definitely be achieved by war ONLY if the warrior eliminates any and ALL threats to peace. Obviously mankind is NOT capable of this clean sweep and never was unless a GOD helped them. Kunstler suggests this cleansing will be performed through natural cycles of pestilence, famine and manmade wars. We have many examples of gods helping humans to achieve peace including the Christian/Judeo and Muslim god. I say god and not gods because they are the only two major monotheistic religions in the world. Christianity has lost its place in the world a long time ago and Muhammed helped to fill the void in leadership. To their merit, the majority of Muslims understand that fighting for their faith does NOT mean eliminating entire countries and peoples by forming an army. They live and work in many nations and participate in the political process to achieve their desires. The majority of Muslims will never vote women into high offices. That is why we see a woman Muslim standing behind Hillary and not a male. I’m waiting for Trump to find a Musli-American citizen and Mexican-American citizen to stand behind him publically…then again…he has hundreds working for him already.
