David Collum is the Betty R. Miller Professor of Chemistry at Cornell University. He is the intellectual utility infielder of internet commentary, covering all the bases: culture, politics, finance, and technology, with often surprising views on the the predicaments of our time. Here we attempt to make sense of the fast-moving corona virus story and the increasingly weird and troubling second-order events spinning off of it into the global economy and fractious American politics du jour.
Dave tweets most entertainingly at @DavidBCollum
The KunstlerCast theme music is the beautiful Two Rivers Waltz written and performed by Larry Unger.

Watch Out! You may be on her list. Her uncle Adolph would be proud of her…

David said we are hardwired to do as we are told. When I came to this realization long ago, I knew that the human race was evolution’s biggest mistake.
Hey James, first time caller, long time loyal reader and listener.
I’ve heard all of your podcasts with David, and i agree with most of his opinions, except for climate change and Trump.
(I believe in climate change and i don’t like trump).
I’ve noticed he seems more aware that Trump is an annoying clown, he admits to more of Trump’s deprecating social behavior.
But what does he mean when he says he doesn’t believe in climate change? I feel like before he denied it because he personally looked at the data or whatever.
Will he admit to human climate change, or was his comment more about the neoliberal strategy to profit from it, so it is simply as corrupted as everything else.
You responded with, you think it might come in cycles which i feel like you’ve never said before. Is this a signifcant change in thinking on your part, or was that thrown out more happenstance to get back to the topic?
I’m way down the rabbithole with covid (Chris Martenson,, etc), so i’m reminded with that boot to the face that even the instiutions you want to trust are obviously lying. So, I can understand the need to read the data about climate change but goddamn it, it’s just seems so fucking obvious what the increased carbon is doing.
I cannot download this podcast – never had a problem before.
It comes up as a 2kb HTML document, not MP3.
I can listen on the laptop but not load onto my MP3
Any suggestions?
I follow Dave on Twitter so I was happy to hear he’s not going anywhere (yet).
Great interview, thank you both.
This was great! You guys have wonderful chemistry.
Jim have you ever considered posting these podcasts to Odysee, Rumble, Bitchute etc to make them more widely accessible?
Could even put them on subscriber platforms such as Subscribestar (your buddy Orlov is on there) or Gum Road. Just a thought. More people should these ideas.
I loved Dave’s remarks about feeling “dark” and a little crazy. Nice to hear I’m not alone. This Clown World schtick is getting old.
My understanding is the VAERS database is quite old. So likely so is its website. But I suspect the main reason the site is clunky/difficult to use is that its designers were told it would have extremely modest workload. Like with previous viruses/vaccines where 25 or 50 deaths was a big big deal (and the vax got pulled to, you know, save lives–oh those old school ethics!).
He should be fired from Cornell..just another wokester.
Love these prostitution ads. I remember going to Paraguay 20 years ago and was amused by all the people selling me a lottery ticket or a single cigarette out of a pack. What kind of economy is this?
You did not hit the digital currency issue hard enough. It’s coming and it needs to be opposed. How is a good question. All this pandemic bullshit is about keeping the Aladdin’s lamp of monetary largesse in their possession. Money is what they say it is. I am no committed “gold bug”. I’ll accept that a dollar can be defined as a pound of sugar or a peck of wheat. I am just tired of my “betters” making it all up. If you say you want a revolution–Well, you know–1)every American who cares should go take half their money out of the bank and just hold it OR buy one gold coin of any type or if they have no money or savings 5 silver eagles. When they see that they can’t get it or have to pay ridiculous premiums they will know what is in store for everything they want to buy….
The answer to Afghanistan is kick the can down the road. The lessor of two evils. Keep ignoring reality, no suffering today, for more suffering tomorrow. The reason why billions of US dollars in military hardware was left behind in Afghanistan is because it had to be left behind. Blah, blah blah, get rid of the BS rhetoric and what happened is: all the shit was left behind because there was no other choice. The same reason all those cargo ships are floating off the coast of California. The same reason why there is a shortage of semiconductor chips, and US car production is dying. (China is producing gazillions of cars) America is broke, as in not just bankrupt but broken. Blindly spend all your tomorrows on todays, duh! Boom town ghost town. Boom economy ghost economy. Life followed by death. No mystery to it.
