Excellent essay today, JHK. You've described the paralyzing situation of the federal leviathan to near perfection.

Excellent essay today, JHK. You've described the paralyzing situation of the federal leviathan to near perfection.
I've said it before and I will say it again. Any government derives its "authority" ONLY from the faith of the people it governs. Once a government loses the faith of the governed it has lost its authority and becomes an illegitimate government and must be scrapped and replaced. Without the faith of the governed the government itself can no longer truly govern the people. In the United States up to 50% of the population no longer have faith in or trust the federal government. I personally believe that number to be far greater than 50%.
The clusterfuck clown show that is now the federal government can no longer govern and can no longer do its job. The Congress has pissed away all of their authority are nothing more than a bickering boys and girls club who do nothing but hold "investigations" that amount to nothing. Who here can tell me anything that the Congress has done of late that has directly benefitted them? The Presidency is paralyzed from rogue judges usurping authority they have never be given and for some reason the Presidency listens to these rogue judges and gives deference to their rulings. The Judiciary, the lowest of the 3 enumerated Constitutional powers has assumed far greater in power than they were ever designed to have and must be reigned in. The body to do that is the Congress but Congress is so bifurcated by the two petty and bickering tribes that it is paralyzed and useless.
The States themselves could act under Article 5 of the US Constitution but the states themselves are dismal failures, no longer independent and unique, now nothing more than administrative regions of the federal government.
So what recourse do we as the people have? What do we do when we lose faith in the government? What do we do when the government no longer functions and is now illegitimate?
When a government loses faith of the governed it has lost its authority. It then resorts itself to force, coercion and lawfare to gain obedience from the governed. As Mr. Kunstler pointed out for the Jacobins in France, that only went so far. Will that and can that happen in the USA? Only time will tell.
However, the people get the government they deserve, government is the reflection of the people governed. The corrections to the government over the last 70 years have been “blessed” by the people in their Have vs. Have-not election games. Why doesn’t anything change, as we seem to demand regularly? Because of the fact that most people agree with things just the way they are.
I remember that the first stage of recovery from addiction is the acknowledgement that it exists. American has not acknowledged its addiction to the gimme state yet.
I'm afraid the pot could boil over. I would not advocate for this situation, but things are getting tense out there.
Judges in Sanctuary Cities refuse to arrest or prosecute for Tesla burning, robbery, rape, carjacking, murder. Intersection take-overs, blocking public highways, disrupting airline flights, random shooting into buildings. Will there ever be any consequences?

I'm not sure what will happen when families and innocent people are pushed to the breaking point, especially in this economy.
"Faith" is the excuse people give when they don't have a good reason to believe something. If they had a good reason, they would offer that as justification for their belief, not "faith".

Good assessment,

You are oh so correct.
