12/11/24: Astute question. The nationality/religions of the book's characters were, in a critical sense, irrelevant. Which I think is the point of Christmas (one of them, anyway). I recommend reading it and finding out for yourself (the book, inexpensive, is a good investment for those who admire good writing).
