One cannot help but notice that every claimed abuse our "woke-scolders" nag us about, from climate change to COVID to civil rights to gendernoia, has two common characteristics:

2. Advancing their specific claimed "abuse" is consistently subordinated to expanding this top-down control.
It seems that our woke-scolders are Progressives first, (insert claimed abuse here) second.
This is their mindset. If they believe something is "helpful" they see it as something that should be forced upon others. They even do it at a micro-level. In schools, in their communities... say one of them comes up with an idea THEY like: They try to force it on everyone else, even though others are not interested. It's just the way they think. Rather than look inside for whatever makes them happy, they want to change their entire environment, and make others create that enivronment. Thus, they are always frustrated.
Note they were ecstatic during the covid hoax forcing others into behaviors they wanted to see. Masking, forced distancing, all the stupid things that made them feel good inside.
These are sick people and they are STILL in charge, in large part.
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” —
This perfectly describes the busybodies who are feverishly working at cobbling together an HOA of sorts in my expat community. Needless to say there's a core of us who are effectively "resisting".
Tony, people who favor HOAs do so so that someone has control of the common properties because they do not want to do it. Also the enforcement controls appearances and property values. Most HOAs start with the developer giving administrative responsibility for common property to a law firm AKA an HOA.
Contrary to popular belief, HOAs can be dissolved by communities. If so, someone has to take the responsibility for landscaping, painting and maintaining the common property. There is the rub, no one wants to do that so the HOA just goes merrily along. Good luck!!!
This (among other reasons) is why I love C.S. Lewis. What a great quote. I think I ran across this in "Abolition of Man," yes? Or elsewhere? In any case, I need to reread that.
I believe it was “God in the Dock”. Either way, Lewis’s massive intellect, wisdom, and insight continue to bless us today. Hard to say which one of his quotes is my favorite, but this one is so applicable and timely. It came to mind immediately.
Well, I had to look it up to get the wording just right, but I read it years ago during the COVID madness and the simple, obvious truth of it really struck me.
Very apt. Also shows you how things don't change. There have always been those people. I'm reading "The Brothers Karamazov" and those people existed then, too.
I just finished that book a few days ago and agree with your assessment. These busybodies are endemic to the the entire race. Thus, ceaseless vigilance of our freedom.
Excellent, Mary. Commonly known as Power Motivation. The biggest mistake the American people make is believing that these power aholes in government give one damn about them. Aren’t these aholes the ones that periodically send millions of people to their deaths? Power people do not care about people.
I'm really irritated to have to deal with some of these a-holes where I play pickleball. I go to play and compete. But some of these ladies (which is why I prefer to play the dudes) decide one day that "we all" need to work on a specific thing. Um, no, I'm not there for lessons. They're all libs. This mindset invades every single thing they do. If there is even the smallest opportunity for them to force what they want on others, they will do it. I don't know what motivates them except as you say, a power trip. There's no money involved. Just their wills against everyone else's.
Yeah, my wife tells me stories all the time about “friends” playing power games.
It is interesting that competition exists between men and between women but the competition between men and women, not so much, and continuously being altered.
If no competition between men, No sports? Between women, no fashion industry, no makeup industry?
No competition between men and women? No Democrat party?
Mary came from LA and watched California deteriorate in the early stages and got the heck outa there. Now we get to watch Idaho and Arizona do the same.
Yup, a product of Obama and his climate change warriors. He really believed that the USA could maintain its world position with a service economy. Europe was Obama’s model for much of his administration.
I was a mfg. engineer in 1991 and my product family was sold to China. Then all the other wafer fab production was shipped to Malaysia. I was devastated by the sending mfg.overseas syndrome of the Bush/Clinton administrations. The day that Bush stood up and said that the economy was fine in the face of a recession, was the day he lost my vote. Unfortunately, we got Clinton.
Well said. And it seems the Progressive woke-scolders in my neighborhood have inserted themselves into the HOA, where $2 million has gone missing from budget cookie jar. They hand out exorbitant fines and harass homeowners, while their homes get remodeled using HOA contractors. They create more top-down control laws which are randomly enforced to line their pockets and make life miserable for all living things.
Corruption and greed are genetic flaws that humanity has failed to evolve past. Corruption and greed exist in all facets of human existence where the first and foremost purpose of most peoples' existence is to enrich themselves and to get gain. From the federal leviathan to the small town to the local church. There will always be someone in the organization who believes they are entitled to more and will steal what they believe is theirs. Until humanity evolves past this we will never progress to be more than what we currently are.
Sadly, I agree that greed and corruption are part of the human condition. And those that possess this trait in greater abundance tend to drift into positions of power and influence. It takes strong, ethical leaders, those who can absorb the slings and arrows against them, to rise up and rally the masses to counter this phenomena. I don't think we'll ever move past this dynamic.
I don't think we will either. Which means we are doomed to repeat the same lessons over and over and over again until we finally do destroy ourselves. The dinosaurs had millions of years on this rock. I doubt our civilization will even get a hundred thousand years.
Just read the Bible, a fabulous tome on the lack of progression of the human condition. How many times must God destroy humans before they wise up? Is the Revelation the final straw? It is disconcerting that John’s vision shows that the vast majority of humanity will be wiped out trying to rid Earth of crappy people.
I've read the Bible, a few times. I think John was smoking Patmosian peyote when he wrote that thing. It can be interpreted so many ways that it is impossible to know exactly what he was talking about or seeing. We do know that Christ's return will usher in 1000 years of peace. Why? Because the crappy people will all be gone. But when does this happen? Who knows.
Hello, Cankerpuss. I generally stay out of threads about religion, but there are a couple things that push buttons. Revelation is one. I left a similar comment on JHK's last post so excuse the repetition.
If one studies the Bible as a piece of literature, one will learn that Revelation is written to a format that was popular in those times. There are other Revelations--this one got into the Bible. These pieces were written using weird symbolism and very circumspect language due to what they were communicating. They were written for the people of their times and those folks tended to know what they meant. They were not written as prophesies for people in any future time, and they were not meant for us centuries later.
Also, the Biblical John did not write it. The author is unknown. It was common for authors to attribute their works to a Biblical character (thus the Revelation of John, the Gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, for example). This was to lend gravitas and credibility, whereas the Revelation of Phil (for example) wouldn't carry much weight.
I got this information from listening to the incredibly interesting and informative podcasts of Robert M. Price, whose scholasticism is without peer. If I mischaracterize his work, that's on me.
Just a thought, Donna, How did these very ignorant fishermen get to be so knowledgeable about things biblical? How was Pentecost, witnessed by Lucanus, possible when the same folks were able to communicate to a multi-lingual crowd and were understood by everyone? There were two spiritual avenues that survived the craziness of Jerusalem at the time of Jesus, Christianity and Judaism. Jerusalem was literally destroyed to the ground, fulfilling Jesus words in 70 AD. He announced to the worlds with those prophetic words that the road to God was not in a temple any more that it is within all of us.
Myself, I do not believe in the full import of Revelation. I cannot reconcile the kindness of a benevolent God, revealed in the form of Jesus, and the violent cruelty of the revelation Jesus.
Maybe the Revelation was the peyote inspired revenge seeking output of the last surviving disciple against the Roman Empire, the Babylonian Whore.
Right. I wonder how much of the Bible was drug induced.
Two comments, first, the OT God who wipes out civilizations, I wonder how much of that was trying to explain the ability of Hebrews to destroy Kingdoms of the old world by their own story tellers. The Hebrews were powerful and organized behind a common heritage, unlike most of the “tribes” of the day.
Second, even after New Jerusalem comes down and God moves in, resources to control errant human behavior are in place. So even with he return of Eden, there will be bad people that will be dealt with.
Maybe Trump is (this cycle of human development) the next Jesus Christ. Maybe Elon is the new Thomas Edison. Just mentally weigh their motivations...They have surpassed the greed genes by a mile..
Your analogies are correct. Trump is dumping MAGA inspired doctrine over the world and Musk’s innovation are on the par of Edison’s. The world is starting to change drastically, maybe a Fourth Turning? These two men are a vanguard.

Stalin and the Communist Party did just that, too.

What are the odds! And, what an incredible work.
The Have and Have-not battle has been with mankind since his inception.
Yes indeed.
They are unable to conceive that people are "wired" differently.

Sad, isn't it?
I lived through the midwest being destroyed by sending the jobs overseas in the 1980s. It never recovered, either.

No winning for the little guy! That's why I am just trying to live my best life regardless of what these bozos do.

Oh, hey, you're welcome! Thanks for being open-minded, Cankerpuss.

" I think John was smoking Patmosian peyote when he wrote that thing."
He was definitely tripping on something. I've tried to explain this to many, many Bible-thumpers, but they'll have none of it.
You only believe in the natural or physical world. Thus you are not qualified to speak about religion or the supernatural.
As per usual, you make assumptions about me that are completely wrong.
What is the Levitical punishment? Islam says to cut the hand off. I'd say break the hand the first time. Second time cut it off.

Ultimately, all HOA crap originates in law firms.
They seek ever expanded power and control.
A dystopic technocratic dictatorship.
