At least we the people would get direct benefit from this whereas with them overseas farting around in other nations we get no direct benefit. And I don't buy the "preserving our freedom" bullshit. I've never met anyone from Afghanistan and I have never been threatened by anyone from Iran. The only threat I feel living here in the Rocky Mountains of Utah is the fact that I am now surrounded by people who don't speak English. That's the threat. Not North Koreans. The multi-million man army that has been permitted to cross our border is the real threat.
It is interesting Cankerpuss. Think of the difference between the world war. States sent militia to participate in WW1 creating a foreign standing army. WW2 created a Foreign only standing army which the MIC doesn’t know what to do with during periods of Pax Americana. Hence the ongoing search for somewhere to send them. We have a standing army here in the country, the National Guard, the successor to the militias, and the Reserves, called on to fill in for the foreign army. If I remember right, the off-shore forces are not allowed to operate in the US, only overseas.
We have been set up as a war machine by the MIC ever since WW2.
Of course, the strategy is to fight our wars “Over There” rather than here.
Bretton Woods still exists de jure. We still feel it is our responsibility to patrol the sea lanes. We still feel it is our responsibility to patrol Europe, AKA NATO. We thought it was our job to patrol the Far east, AKA SEATO, which led us to Vietnam. Out of the goodness of our hearts? UH huh, when pigs fly. We are 36 trillion in debt, thanks partly to the MIC and its riding the coat tails of Bretton Woods.
At least the Middle East is an effort to protect our access to oil.
