The Old Testament is God’s attempt to control evil’s hold on people, by direct control, “Follow the Law”, ie Works. The sinful nature of Man makes the Follow the Law approach impossible.
The New Testament teaches that by having faith in Jesus, ie God, and following His two commandments, your heart is in the right place and your “goodness” comes from your heart, it is part of you.
My old book says that Jesus gave us two commandments: Love God above everything and love your fellow man.
Written about 300-years after this guy Jesus was supposed to have existed.
How can we be absolutely sure Jesus exactly said this? We can't, eh?
I won't debate the validity of your last claim. It gets people here all mad!
But it did not take the Christian New Testament to teach man these things.
These had been obvious to man for many years before Jesus came along.
All pagan religions taught these two common sense things involving their "Gods".
After all, they are hardly rocket science eh! LOL
And BTW, isn't everybody's heart in the right place, LOL, and how does a muscular organ which squeezes and relaxes to pump blood around your body produce "goodness"?
Isn't "Open your heart to Jesus" just code for: you can convince yourself a non-existent being is real if you try hard enough?
