Cheryl, you piqued another thought when you mentioned "free will." I often wonder if God sits his throne and doesn't intervene in the affairs of humanity because he has given us free will. If he were to start tinkering around with humanity he would be taking away our free will. If God takes away our free will and forces, any of us, to do…

If he were to start tinkering around with humanity he would be taking away our free will. If God takes away our free will and forces, any of us, to do or behave a certain way, God has then abrogated his responsibility to guarantee free will. If God does this God becomes a liar and a liar loses the faith of his subjects.
Maybe God doesn't intervene because God CANNOT intervene. God is subject to his own laws. If God is subject to his own laws he is therefore, not as ALL POWERFUL as we thought he was.
Anyway, the musings of a tired old brain. I am a person of faith but religions of late have done nothing but confuse me.
"Yes, we have free will; we have no choice but to have it.’ - Christopher Hitchens. Think about it!
EVERYTHING happens according to God's PLAN Christians will say. But when SOMETHING tragic happens, the Christian says God gives us FREE WILL. The age-old trick of constantly moving the goalposts.
If God is willing to prevent evil, but not able then he is not omnipotent.
If he is able, but not willing then he is malevolent.
If he is both able and willing then whence cometh evil?
If he is neither able nor willing then why call him God?
Apologists in a nutshell: "God is incomprehensible, now listen very carefully while I tell you all about him." If what God does is above us, then why do we have all these believers speaking FOR God, or forever explaining him?
The Bible was written, revised and edited many times BY the religious FOR the religious. The last thing it is, is truthful, reliable, unbiased, impartial or a neutral source. Folks that belief the entirety of Bible are willing to sacrifice their humanity on the altar of a book that they can't even prove.
Christianity: The belief that God sacrificed God to God to save God's creations from God.
If religion was kept in their churches and their heads, and that they didn't think they are superior to others, I'd be generally OK with that.
Well at the very basis of energy and matter, is the particle/ wave duality. We cannot understand this. Yet it is so. Your analysis of the logic of God's capabilities and motivations, is similar to this.

You, sir, are a thinker and I like it.
Thank you. You too!
And let me say that both of you are pretty neat.
If a parent is willing to prevent a child from hurting themselves when learning to walk or ride a bike, but is unable, then they are not omnipotent.
If able but unwilling, they are malicious, right?
Thus you are refuted, etc.
