Jim, it is easier to understand the actions and motives of Fauci and the public health crowd by exploring the interdepartmental machinations and turf wars that go on within the federal health bureaucracy. First of all, antibiotics and progressive improvement in living standards in most of the civilized world have virtually eliminated epidemics and infectious diseases that were once the major killers of otherwise healthy people. This has brought about the marked reduction in the importance of and the funding for these disorders and the people that deal with them. Naturally, this caused angst among those who specialized in those disorders. AIDS saved them and showed the way to remain relevant and well funded. Initially AIDS was under the cancer division of the NIH because one of the most prevalent indicators of the disease was an unusual variety of skin cancer. Then Robert Gallo came along and saved the day by claiming to have identified a virus as the cause of AIDS. This enabled Fauci, as head of the infectious disease department, to take over the supervision of the AIDS threat and all the funding that went along with it. Suddenly his department that was heading towards irrelevance became very relevant. The rest is history and this template was repeated several times with claims about other viruses in order to maintain the relevance and funding for much of the public health bureaucracy. But none of these really took hold until the invention of the covid threat which ended up producing more benefits for the public health bureaucracy than they ever thought possible. And now they are attempting to keep their positions and perks by selling the "bird flu".
Thank you for pointing this out. And then there's just the good ol' sociopathic impulse to achieve prominence and fame at all costs. Gallo was/is a highly egotistical man who literally stole the cultured viral sample from Montaignier which he used as part of his announcement of "discovery", and all of his work (none of which was published at the time of his announcement) was subsequently showed to be fraudulent, though this fact was sadly covered up as the HIV-AIDS drug industry was firmly established at that point. And Fauci, of course, is another example of a sociopathic scientific hack motivated by status and power.

Absolutely correct. Fauci and Gallo are two of the worst.
