I don't think Bill Moyer's plan for expansive electrified freight and passenger rail in the U.S. is possible under a democracy with American characteristics. It works though under communism with Chinese characteristics. They have 47,000 kilometers of electrified high speed rail to our zero, not counting our 457 miles Amtrak Acela which tops out at a puny 150 mph.
By the way, if you think they have rail but so what, we have interstate highways and FREEDOM to come and go as we please in our own cars, then think again. Their expressway system with over 114,000 miles in total length is more than double the total length of our Interstate system at 49,876 miles.
