At first, I thought the photo was fish eye or whatever bullshit filters used these days.
Nope.... Better views here of how ridiculous it looks.
I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't last long either. End stage capitalism, where construction is shoddy, not because of the materials, but because of the profit margin.
From the archdaily link: "Addressing the urgent housing crisis, Rose des Vents provides tangible solutions and demonstrates ADHOC's commitment to creating inspiring and sustainable living spaces for students, while enhancing the vitality of the local community." — Let that sink in ... INSPIRING!
BTW, the Babylon-Bee-worthy archdaily article is a paragon of virtue signaling and in-your-face gaslighting. As such, it's well worth a gander.
Eyesore Picks of The Year: I should add that the two MLB Managers of the Year were the two managers that, at the start of the year, I had dismissed as the worst hires.
They kept winning. I remained patient, and also kept the faith that the Braves and the Dodgers would not make the playoffs.
You got that right! And I should add that the two MLB Managers of the Year were the two managers that, at the start of the year, I had dismissed as the worst hires.

James I’ve been reading you since 2006 when I was a young shitlib kid trying to make sense of the world. Loved listening to your podcasts with Duncan. Glad to see you here on Substack and I think it’s a better place for your writing.
This eyesore of the month reminds me of so many other ugly apartment complexes here in the states. Chunky oddly colored blocks that look like they were built by a giant toddler occupied by childless DINKS.

The top two floors have that unfinished look that I remember seeing a lot in Mexico. I was told they didn't tax you on your property until it was finished, so people would live in buildings that were only finished on the 1st floor and just leave exposed the concrete and rebar of the 2nd and 3rd, forever.
In many cases, they fully intend to complete the second and maybe third floor of those structures in Mexico (and elsewhere in Latin America), once they accumulate enough savings to do so.
Alas, it sports that "still under construction" theme that's all the rage these days, even as it fairly begs to be demolished sooner rather than later.
You'll see buildings that look like these in the "bombed out" areas of Detroit before the demolition crews come to clear out the condemned trashy buildings. Seriously.
Reminds me of a similar local complex that has a "bombed-out" look to it, except it's brand new. So...pre-bombed out looks like post-bombed out....gaping irregular holes....partially started construction repairs..... Incredibly hideous......
And to think, all they'd have to do is move to Ukraine and they could squat - likely for free - in the real thing. Future bombs are also gratis. Say "thank you, Vlad." LOL!
I'm so glad Eyesore is back. As a designer, I love this stuff. I only wish Jim had posted the redux of my local art museum, which they totally abused by making the front jail-looking like, and the "dryer-vent extension.
This is the kind of thing that when the architect describes it to you it sounds really quite good. Then after you see it you say, “wait a minute, this is nothing like you described to me!”

And funny they call themselves adhoc....
ad hoc
adjective [ before noun ]
-made or happening only for a particular purpose or need, not planned before it happens
Lol not planned indeed.
Maybe it will look better when it's finished ?
First comment that I thought of too.

Ad hoc sadly mocked.
This is my first introduction to Eyesores and I love it.

The Last DEI Vote (11/20/24)
Someone cast one 2nd place vote for AL Manager of the Year for Aaron Boone.
It's the only possible explanation.
Thank goodness Dr. Oz was tabbed for a Trump cabinet appointment.
Woody Johnson would have hired him as the next Jets GM.

Fantastic! Love the eyesore of the month. There aren't enough months in the year for the architectural abominations we're forced to endure:

I'm going to have to steal your takeaway line!
Please do! The more the merrier (don't say this to the poor souls stuck in that stainless steel Canadian-KGB jail). And now for a tune:

wth is this? the soundtrack that they'll play 24/7 in that jail to break us?

It's a mashup of Panopticon/brutalist/prison planet architecture whose purpose is to oppress and engender despair.
What, no comment on the apropos name of the architecture firm to thank for this blight? ADHOC

Architecture over the last few decades, (if not longer), has been thoroughly soulless, spiritually dead.
What does get constructed almost always is reminiscent of Soviet state buildings, and/or prisons.
That cannot be a coincidence.
The top two floors have that unfinished look that I remember seeing a lot in Mexico. I was told they didn't tax you on your property until it was finished, so people would live in buildings that were only finished on the 1st floor and just leave exposed the concrete and rebar of the 2nd and 3rd, forever.

And both sexes walked around clothed only below the waist.

hey Theresa. stop calling my husband Ron Anselmo. He's been married for 25 years, and doesn't need you calling our house. We have children. Go away.
Who the fuck are you? And why are you stalking me? Go and get fucked. You obviously need it.
Who the fuck am I? Way more than you will ever be. Married to Ron Anselmo for 25 years. Do not ever call her again or I will come and find you.
Call "her"? What, your hubby is a pussy? LMFAO at your Freudian slip.
