E. Just by chance an acquaintance took a side trip to Reno: she reports Reno appears down at the mouth with rows of empty storefronts, closed businesses, and plenty of homeless people in the streets.
Good cops know when not to care? Like the one who walked past a woman on fire in NY subway system without trying to do anything. Anyone riding that can't be important.
You seem familiar with Reno...were you there during the golden days of the70' and 80's before Indian Casinos and the computers changed it for the worse? Much worse.
Computers released the casinos from relying on offering benefits to get people in the door. 99cent breakfasts, $4.95 one pound new york steak dinners...prime rib anywhere for $6.00...pouring 99 cent well drinks from a Tanqueray bottle opened in front of you.
Now facial recognition and player cards weed out the dead-beats.
Analog glory succumbs to digital slavery. That is really unfortunate. It's harder and harder to find little bits of joy in this world. Every once in a while, I have a glorious memory like that and my kids ask me why I'm staring off into the distance.
I told my son once that he'll never know the glories of tearing through dirt roads at 3am blind drunk screaming Waylon Jennings at high volume. The roads are paved and the cops would sooner shoot you than leave you alone.
BRH,
You could have a pretty good weekend in Reno with a Billion dollars....

BRH,
Yeah, put a fork in it.

John Rocker was perceptive enough to recognize that 25 years ago...

Sadly, no. I was there in the late 90's and early 2000's and haven't been back since 2005 or so.
