The restless public, cooped up and idled in springtime’s flowering, have watched Wall Street doing just fine while they see the approaching sunset of their own much more modest Paycheck Protection Program and coronavirus relief checks. Late last week, the Dow Jones shot up 455 points the same day that the government announced the worst unemployment numbers since the lows of the Great Depression. Are there two economies in this country? One for people who expect to work for pay, and another for bankers who play shady games with money and receive extravagant bailouts when their games don’t pan out?

Kind of looks like it, a little bit. That tangled pile of cognitive dissonance is liable to catch fire soon like an overactive compost heap as the promised opening-up of America commences and tens of millions of able adults discover that their old jobs, vocations (and paychecks!) will never re-open, not to mention health care plans and pensions. God help us if the stock markets are still chugging up when that recognition sweeps the land.

And why won’t the markets keep chugging if the Federal Reserve keeps stuffing bales of dollars into Wall Street’s boilers? Jay Powell and his crew of monomaniacs apparently believe that bolstering the indexes is the sole signifier of a healthy system, and they’ve turned early adapters to Modern Monetary Theory (MMT), the idea that government can print as much money as it feels like to keep the wheels of activity turning (or, at least, the appearance of activity). In just two months, they’ve churned out trillions, equal to the first two hundred-plus years of the USA’s national debt — and, of course, new money is new debt because under our currency regime money is loaned into existence.

Well, one reason the markets may not keep chugging is that money is disappearing into the ol’ black hole of extinction even faster than the Fed can enter keystrokes that magically represent new money. The reason: if, in fact, money is loaned into existence, it is defaulted out of existence when the loans are not paid back. After all, that’s what a loan is: money advanced on a promise to be paid back, generally at interest, interest representing the time-value of money, that is, the duration of the loan. Do you have any idea how many loans are not being paid back, and may now never be paid back?

Start with houses. 63 percent of homeowners pay a mortgage (a loan) every month. The national average outstanding mortgage debt is $148,000. Total mortgage debt is $10.3 trillion. Now cars: There are roughly 260 million passenger vehicles registered in America, with upward of 100 million of them bought on loans that are still active, amounting to $1.2 trillion, enough to buy 53 million Ford Fusions at $23,000 each. Now credit card debt: total for the US is $3.9 trillion with an average carried balance of $9,333. Meanwhile, 45 percent of adult Americans have no savings.

As Senator Everett Dirksen (R-Ill) once quipped during a senate budget battle, “A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon, you’re talking real money.” Consider that a trillion is a thousand billion (and a billion is a thousand million). In an ordinary reality, a reality-based reality, that is, with reality-based money, that would be a lot of money (and a lot of debt)! It’s hard to project an exact figure, but with over 20 percent of the US work-force idle, with no income, there’s liable to be a lot of debt that’s not being paid back, will never be paid back, and a lot of money headed into extinction. That will translate into a lot of people with no money. Until all that money they owed is finished not being paid back, and the new money that the Fed is busy creating, with no relationship to the production of things of value, overcomes the old money that’s finished disappearing. Then Americans will have plenty of money. The catch is that the money will be worthless. Thus, the two ways of going broke: having no money; or having lots of money that’s too worthless to buy anything. So it goes.

Along with people’s hopes and dreams of a decent life. What you see, then, is a nation, and a system, that has come to be based on broken promises. That’s what the restless public will take away from this morass of statistics. The discord will rapidly leave the statistical frame and take hold in the emotional frame, and that frame will feature entirely negative emotion: rage, resentment, grievance, vengeance, feelings like that. The sum of all broken promises is a broken social contract. That’s the agreement that we will behave civilly in exchange for the liberty to go about our business — within clearly defined rules (laws) about what is legitimate business. A broken social contract is exactly what all these machinations are leading up to. Hence, the appearances of the state — the system and the people who run it — become more and more fantastically and transparently dishonest.

For instance, the fake candidacy of Joe Biden, a man too far gone in age and mind to be president, with a long slime-trail of family money-grubbing in and around his official offices, and now an old sexual molestation charge against him. Who do the Democrats think they’re kidding with this? The coronavirus gave them an excuse to stuff Joe in a closet for two months, but can they keep hiding him there after the grand opening-up?

Will Wall Street and its errand boys in the Federal Reserve keep working their shifty hoodoo, enriching shareholders, hedge funders, and corporate execs while everybody else hits the red-line of hunger and outrage? Will Mr. Trump do what he suggested way back on the campaign trail in 2016 and declare a national bankruptcy? There is, after all, a difference between bankruptcy and national insurrection. Bankruptcy, at least, holds the promise of a work-out. Financial work-outs are generally painful, but orderly. That could make all the difference.

      Never fear, Trump is here.
We have a greedy megalomaniac as the leader of the free world.
      What can possibly go wrong?

      • Bytes May 15, 2020 at 9:58 am #

What could go wrong is the election of a clearly rapidly declining Biden. A known grifting mentally deficient deep state flunky.

  2. shotho May 11, 2020 at 10:07 am #

No, Trump will not declare a national bankruptcy.

    • ejhr May 12, 2020 at 9:40 am #

Money is not, repeat NOT, repeat again! NOT loaned into existence. It is created by deficit spending by monetary sovereign governments. Banks create CREDIT and it too is NOT loaned into existence. Credit is offered by banks who can use money to give it form, but it’s a liability.
Sovereign money is a gift. It cannot be paid back. “Thin air” is not a bank account. Not a cent of taxpayer money gets spent to pay down federal debts. So whatever the cost, the Fed can pay up.

The Fed, a] can never go bankrupt, b] can always create currency as long as resources are sufficient to sell to the government. The Federal government is not in trouble. It’s the punters who have loaded up on Mortgages beyond their ability to repay.

It seems to make sense but will it happen? Trumps dark miasma of ignorance is ignored. More Americans are going to die of covie than were lost in WWII by the time the election comes around. But Trump could get re-elected in spite of it.

I look at inadequate men standing masked with guns as big as they are on state capital steps. If these cowards were black they would be getting the shit kicked out of them or worse but, instead patriotic music pours from TV speakers in our land of white privilege ignorance and conservative billionaire propaganda.

Practice voting for someone else. You can do it on my website. It is in demo mode for now. Our nation’s future depends on it.

If these cowards were black they would be getting the shit kicked out of them or worse but, instead patriotic music pours from TV speakers in our land of white privilege ignorance and conservative billionaire propaganda.”

If they were black Americans, they would be just as secure in their rights to bear arms as white Americans. I can’t think of a constituency more in need of 2nd amendment protections. If I were black and listening to the non-stop propaganda coming out of the left, I would own several.

How can the democrats decry white supremacy and racism on the one hand, and vow to take away their guns on the other.

Wake up black people. The democrats are not your friends.

      • woe May 11, 2020 at 1:32 pm #

There are some of us blacks that see what’s going on and see we are being set up. The shooting in Georgia (that’s two months old) conveniently timed to scare blacks into voting for the democratic party. I’m not taking the bait. They want everyone hysterical. The destruction of the food supply worries me more. They are going to try to take the black people guns first. This pandemic doesn’t make sense, how you know those coronavirus cases are legit with no accurate testing. They had a president in Africa that swabbed a goat, a piece of fruit, and some motor oil, all the swabs came back positive. He kicked the WHO out of the country.

        • Rain Waters May 11, 2020 at 2:23 pm #

Theres no such thing. That African leader was doing his job.

          Woe,

So good to hear. I implore all Americans to realize that we are all being set up to fight and fear one another – black and white, man and woman, white collar and blue collar. The list goes on. Divide and conquer.
I think blacks are already waking up, and have been for some time. Hurry!

          • woe May 12, 2020 at 1:47 am #

I was a lifelong democrat. I started questioning that choice when I listened to a podcast about the 2008 financial crisis. Black people had the highest rate of home ownership in the history of this country when Obama became president. Instead of saving the home owners, white, black, whoever, they let them lose their homes so the bankers could get their bonuses, rent the home back to them at inflated prices. For some of those people, they were the first homeowners in their families, it was a big deal, you were showing your children what hard work and saving could do. Then they got laid off through no fault of their own and lost something that they didn’t even think was possible to have because of some “financial Crisis” that they didn’t create, but they had to pay for. Then I worked as a nurse in corrections, you want to see the real truth of America, go work in a prison. I worked in two prisons that were 85-90% white women, more than half of those needed to be in a drug rehab, not a prison. I thought white women in a large way didn’t go to prison, it was a shock. I saw the opioid/meth/heroin epidemic up close and personal. Everybody is in prison, the upper class, the scions of society, doctors, nurses, teachers, even police officers, trust fund babies. I never knew this was going on, never saw this on TV or anywhere else. That made me start to wonder what else they are not telling us. This country is building a gulag system to put all of us in. The racial tension is created to put a charge on a person so they can get locked up, white and black, you’re marked for life, can’t get a good job, so you go back to what you know, because you have to feed your family. Then you are right back in prison again, it’s just another racket, most of these people aren’t violent, they are just cash cows for the prison industrial complex.

          • Janos Skorenzy May 12, 2020 at 1:01 pm #

Woe to you. Many Blacks and HIspanics were given housing loans they could never pay back, and quite obviously, never intended to pay back. Towards the end of his second term, Obama starting talking about a program to help minorities get homes – the very thing that was the catalyst to crash the economy in the first place.

Racial tension is natural. Yes, they weaponize to help Blacks keep Whites down, but it would be there in any case. Similarly, the energy or “potential” between men and women. Weaponized so it is experienced mostly as tension and hatred, to help women keep White Men down.

Whites are the most demonized by the Elite since they are the greatest threat to them – and of course, those who have been so deeply wronged in the immediate past. Blacks do have a just claim – one which they will never stop using to justify their incompetence.

        • libertysghost May 14, 2020 at 7:06 pm #

Well you have to wonder if that isn’t just one more reason the “globalists” are once again reacting so brazenly from a point of weakness. It’s odd to me more people don’t see this. They see these “lockdowns’ in the blue states (Dem leaders are the remaining globalist infiltration in American politic primarily…of course you have some old guard GOPers still there but they’re muted in power) and their mockingbird mouthpieces in their PR “legacy media” saying such bat-shit crazy panic mongering manifestations as some extension of their growing power over time…that this is what they have been planning forever!

When in reality these moves reek of desperation. If they still controlled the “narrative” Trump doesn’t win in 2016…and many other “seats” aren’t occupied by the people who won them right now. If they still controlled the narrative there is no need to “censor” so egregiously and dangerously as they are doing now…and no reason to “lockdown” basically pulling the “kill switch” attempting some grand suicide pact they forgot to tell everyone else existed.

There would be no need…because people would already be compliant and they would hold all the power already.

          But they don’t.

And “woe”…I know you are not alone in your “community” and we should all guess that is just one more reason for the desperation of the globalists we are witnessing. JHK describes many others almost weekly as well.

Because the “MSM” is telling us we are losing so badly every day…we know we aren’t. 😉 When Obama was elected they gladly told us how we all “won”…which of course meant we didn’t. There are no incentives for power to remind us when they lose or we win.

      • Cargill May 11, 2020 at 2:57 pm #

If they were black Americans, they would be just as secure in their rights to bear arms as white Americans.

        LOL That’s hysterically funny.

If they were black dudes there on the capitol steps demanding … well, whatever the pathetic honkies were demanding the other day ,,, the right to die painfully, I think … then state coppers or guardsmen or someone would take em out quick smart, eith extreme prejudice.

That’s how justice works under the stars & stripes. But thankfully people of colour are far too smart and cool to go in for such pathetic stunts in the first place. 🙂

Are you seriously calling African-Americans “colored”? You really are an anachronism and a racist.

Trump is a real estate developer. Obama was a social worker. Bush was a baseball team owner. Clinton was a politician only. Bush 1was a spook. Reagan was an actor and union leader.

You are looking for someone that has experience to pull us out of the mess we are in. None of these folks that turned into politicians fill the bill.

Maybe the problem is that all the problems we are facing today are far to big for a single person, maybe a single government to overcome.

I even have a reason why. The government, thanks to the Deep State phenomenon is itself circling its wagons to preserve It’s own power base and financial base. The government represents itself now not the people of the US. DC should be its own country, it is not acting like part of the US.

Think of the Constitution, preventing power build up by separation of powers. Maybe we need to bust up this lousy federal government into smaller pieces that will have to compete with each other. The government today is a monopoly, replete with all the trappings of monopoly, financial stupidity, apathy, bureaucratic inertia, non-responsiveness and protectiveness for its own power.

Assuming that this is a problem, does it make sense to vote for a person that has used every one of these attributes to get himself and his family ahead using the power of the position he was in. The entire Deep State is comprised of people just like Biden, concentrating on beating Trump who is the only real threat they have felt in a long time.

Unless you believe in the Dem credo, that the people need to be led by the government, and the government is smart people like the Dem party, a vote for the Dem candidate is wrong. And do not be hoodwinked by the RINO group that also believe in government, thus their control of the people.

That is the credo we fought against 80 years ago, government control of populations. It is the credo that 50% of our population fights against today. Unfortunately, due to two things, the brainwashing of two generations of kids onto socialistic dogma, and the introduction of millions of new folks that do not have a clue about non-socialism forms of control, we are at the demographic threshold of capitulation to socialism. The US is the reflection of its people so the conversion to socialism may be what should be happening. The people in the former 50% are going to regret the loss of freedom they will experience. Way too late, the latter 50% will rue the days they voted these socialist dogs into office and they will find that liberty is not free and cannot be bought for freebies.

I think the US will split apart as long as the wedges continue to be driven in between the US people by the federal government.

Well, when the Civil War began, many Americans yearned for the return of Andrew Jackson (metaphorically that is). Jackson had suppressed and earlier attempt at secession by SCarolina around 1832.

Forgive the redaction. Propriety is a harsh mistress – oft too harsh and needing to be put in her place. As H Rider Haggard’s Black Tribesmen said in “She”, We worship women but every few generations we kill most of them just to remind them we are stronger.

          • BackRowHeckler May 11, 2020 at 1:12 pm #

Yes Andrew Jackson’s concern was keeping the states together to take on Great Britain, a country he hated with a passion.

As he hated uppity N’s with a passion. Yet on his deathbed, surrounded by his relatives and slaves, he said, “I will see you all, Black and White, in heaven”. (approximate quote)

More, he hated the nascent New World Order, already stirring, with a passion calling them vipers and vowing by the Eternal God to rout them out.

Not socialism but fascism is the term you should have used, for that’s what we already have, as business and the bankers control the country and all its branch’s.Socialism is for the people fascism is for the 1%,every country every government has a social contract with its people, and when that social system is destroyed so is the country.

As old Bob Dole “one of the finer republicans stated” said the American people are like a flock of sheep they have be led,and of courser one of his finer quotes was about Joe six pack, GIVE THEM A SIX PACK AND A GAME AND THEY ARE HAPPY.AND THUS IT IS.!!!!

Way too late, the latter 50% will rue the days they voted these socialist dogs into office and they will find that liberty is not free and cannot be bought for freebies.

When will the far right – instead of jumping at “socialist” shadows – start to understand where the real causes of enslavement, misery, and poverty lie?

For the vast majority of Americans, “freedom” isn’t under threat from socialism – the country (including Democrats) is a million miles from anything remotely like social democracy, let alone socialism. It’s a nonsense meme … ludicrous.

No – the real enemy is the 1% – or let’s say 10% – the concentration of almost all surplus value (the wealth created by labour) in the hands of entrenched elites and major corporations.

JHK has talked for years about the destruction of Main Street, the obscene growth of Wall Street, and the shipping of US manufacturing to low-cost countries. And none of this happened in a vacuum – Republican legislatures and presidents aided and abetted it even more than Democrats did.

The Walton Family, the Koch Brothers, CocaCola, McDonald’s, Goldman Sachs, Jeff Bezos … these are the enemies of “the people” … much better to think clearly than suck up the alt-right Kool Aid who wish to demonise the likes of AOC.

Genuine freedom is freedom from economic oppression.

I wonder whether a national bankruptcy will leave out the people with student loan debt?
I’ve been talking to quite a number of these people, and the lines about them knowing what they were doing when they signed for these loans, and they took foolish courses that didn’t prepare them for the job market just don’t match up with reality.

Joe Biden was instrumental in exempting student loan recipients from bankruptcy protection, but as in every action by government that screws over working middle class Americans, it was bipartisan.

I’m reading a beautiful old Israel Joseph Singer book, “The Brothers Ashkenazi.” One young idealistic man tries to lead a rebellion against the capitalist swine, while his old rebbe father just shakes his head. Eventually after the pogroms start, the young man returns to his father, who just sighs and says, “My boy, it always ends with violence against the Jews.” I hate to say it (since I’m a mischling and would be toast) but it would have helped quell the anti-semites a bit if so many of our current malefactors weren’t members of the Tribe. Even Ivan Boesky and the “hard sellers” of the Predators Ball knew they had to dial it back when someone had the bright idea to celebrate his daughter’s Bat Mitzvah by having her arrive on the Queen Elizabeth II via helicopters in the middle of the Junk Bond scandal. “People go to the gas chambers for this, you dummy,” as one character said in James Stewarts’ “Den of Thieves.” Someone will probably pay and it’s more likely to be some lowly Hasidim in Flatbush than some horse-faced Boston Brahman wearing a Polo shirt and sipping Merlot in the Hamptons. You don’t need a “right of return” contingency plan when people don’t see you hiding behind the curtain.

Todays’ stories only celebrate capitalist swine. The time covered by The Brothers Ashkenazi is from about 1880 to the end of WWI. A time before Jewish Europeans went the way of T-Rex and a hundred years before the American consumer also will go extinct.

No gas chambers, everybody just starves and does each other in this time.

Queen Elizabeth is besties with one of the Rosthschild women. Wise. They could give them all the Romanov treatment at any time. See that’s possible if you are at the highest levels of both Communism and Capitalism, the latter controlling the former for the most part. It does get away from them sometimes though: while the Tribe was squabbling about who was going to take over from Lenin, the Wolf of the Steppes (Stalin) took over.

The FED is trying its best to beat deflation. There’s a shortage of $USD (hint: $USD is going much higher) and the money velocity is on the floor and sinking. We’re going to have a further 50% haircut from current levels in the equities. US interest rates will go below zero, and the FED will beat deflation to again bring equity prices to current levels (SPX~3000). The FED will beat deflation but we’ll get stagflation, and down again we will go to even lower lows. Equities are the most expensive they’ve been, EVER.

I quote myself commenting to a coworker at the time; “when healthy 25-year olds start dropping dead in the street, give me a call.” That never happened, and it won’t. As I’ve been saying on these pages and elsewhere for weeks, nay months, apparently addressing a stone wall; this virus is not a threat to the young and relatively healthy;i.e. the vast majority of people. That much was clear from the initial data coming out of China. It was confirmed by the data from Italy. It was proven out by the data from around the globe.

There is not now and there never was a basis for shuttering the global economy. I knew that weeks ago and I’m just some guy on the street who can read. Why did I know it and our supposed experts didn’t?”

    • SW May 11, 2020 at 11:15 am #

Why the hysterical response to covid19 is a mystery to me. But the results of this overreaction will effect a lot of people. Because hospitals were told to stop all but emergency surgeries, most are pretty much empty and some rural hospitals that were hanging on will be broke then shuttered. One statistic that you don’t hear on the news is that 43,000 hospital workers are now unemployed. The virus is real just as TB, polio, measles, etc are real but it’s not the Spanish flu of 1918 by a long shot.

For a dose of common sense (and why this man has not been listened to I don’t understand) here’s an article by Dr. John Lee:

      https://spectator.us/ten-reasons-end-lockdown-now/

“In an ordinary reality, a reality-based reality, that is, with reality-based money, that would be a lot of money (and a lot of debt)! It’s hard to project an exact figure, but with over 20 percent of the US work-force idle, with no income, there’s liable to be a lot of debt that’s not being paid back, will never be paid back, and a lot of money headed into extinction. That will translate into a lot of people with no money.”

What reality was that?! To get a lot closer to what the actual value of a dollar is we can all do this — even for a month — pay for everything in cash. Food, clothing, medicine — don’t use a debit card or credit card and see how much harder it is to hand someone $100 for stuff rather than just put your PIN number in. We’ve all been hypnotized with the ease it takes to buy everything.

      • Beryl of Oyl May 11, 2020 at 11:40 am #

A lot of Americans have been coerced into using electronic (traceable) payments for online (traceable) shopping. Thhat’s what the shutdown is for.
Notice that we’ve been told for some time that retail stores are in trouble because we no longer want to shop in “bricks and mortar” stores?
When you hear the same phrase over and over, that’s the clue you are being brainwashed, but it still amazes me that people will repeat that stuff without stopping to examine it.
It is demonstrably false that we don’t want to go see, handle, try on and buy, in things called stores, and pay in cash.
Notice also, which businesses were deemed “essential” and allowed to stay open. Chinamart being one of the most noticeable.
Crowds can go to the local Lowes or Home Depot, and yes, the bathrooms are open. But a church? Ours cannot open “early” (New York), because they would not be allowed to use the bathrooms except in emergencies ( how is that determined) and each time one person uses the toilet, the entire bathroom has to be cleaned.
Yes, the Attorney General of the United States knows this is going on, but he can’t intervene, because “States Rights” or something.
This is all part of an agenda.

        • SW May 11, 2020 at 12:44 pm #

All rationalizations for the lockdown and wearing masks have expired but where I live — Austin, TX — local authorities are making arbitrary decisions and the police are enforcing them. Even though the governor is opening up the state and masks are encouraged but not mandatory , four local judges are demanding the lockdown continue and masks are mandatory. Why they and the mayor have this authority, I don’t know.

    • Cargill May 11, 2020 at 11:44 am #

As I’ve been saying on these pages and elsewhere for weeks, nay months, apparently addressing a stone wall; this virus is not a threat to the young and relatively healthy;i.e. the vast majority of people.

And so? Because the virus is a more serious threat to a minority of people, it can be brushed aside as a beat-up? That the healthy 25yo is the yardstick for deciding a policy response from health officials? It’s a very callous point of view, I trust you can live with it.

People over 60 with less than perfect health have every right to equal protection from government and the health system.

But I do agree that the blanket lock-down was overkill in some ways – some very low-risk activities (in both production and consumption) could have remained functioning under proper protocols. But there again, everything is clearer in hindsight, and spreaders can be totally asymptomatic.

Plus there are greedy business owners and stupid consumers – both classes that can hardly ever be counted on to do the right thing … so in some ways heavy bans are required.

      • Beryl of Oyl May 11, 2020 at 12:09 pm #

From a note a good friend (ex alphabet government man)sent regarding the current situation, “The Covid-19 thing is a a problem but the real problem is the destruction of the world financial system by the greedy fuckers. In addition, Trump confronted China on their looting of our country. The Chinese, working with our corrupt “leaders” and corporate bosses, gutted our industry. The Chinese thought they had it in the bag and along comes Trump and kicks over the applecart, enraging not just the Chinese but every money man in the world. My view is this. If the economy does not come roaring back by the end of August (I and I do not expect that) we are fucked.”
And now to sow the seeds of discord comes this shooting of a poor innocent black man casing a jobsite who accidentally swerved left and almost tripped but for him innocently grabbing the nearest thing available, which unfortunately was a shotgun attached to the dreaded white man. The poor innocent has been baggered forever, first for innocently carrying a loaded gun to a school event, then innocently forgetting to pay for a TV at Walmart. Some folks never get a break. 19. Cargill May 11, 2020 at 11:29 am #

    From today’s essay:

Start with houses. 63 percent of homeowners pay a mortgage (a loan) every month. The national average outstanding mortgage debt is $148,000. Total mortgage debt is $10.3 trillion. Now cars: There are roughly 260 million passenger vehicles registered in America, with upward of 100 million of them bought on loans that are still active, amounting to $1.2 trillion, enough to buy 53 million Ford Fusions at $23,000 each. Now credit card debt: total for the US is $3.9 trillion with an average carried balance of $9,333. Meanwhile, 45 percent adult Americans have no savings.

Australia is similar to the US in so many ways, but we’re also kinda different. The median house price in my neck of the woods (Melbourne) is over $US580,000, and mortgages would generally far exceed $US148,000. Australia has been living with a real estate bubble (almost a Ponzi scheme) for a very long time – generations.

The house we live in (and own outright) cost $85,000 in the late 1980s, and is now valued at $1.25m … and it is very modest indeed. I don’t know what it is, but people are crazily invested in real estate – both literally and psychologically. Getting on the property ladder is an obsession – even for quite young people whose incomes are just starting.

I don’t think Australians carry as much motor-vehicle or credit-card debt, but I haven’t checked the stats.

We have zero credit card debt … we use them for everything, but pay 100% of the balance every month, with 60 days interest free built in. I find a carried debtof $9,333 per person staggering … it’s the most expensive money in the world!

    “T’aint nothing queer as folks.”

JHK has been predicting for a very long time that it’s all going to go blooey, and the US (the world?) is going to have the mother of all depressions – in fact a system collapse. I really trust the pandemic doesn’t trigger anything really nasty … and in fact can be used to get people to wake up and to check their reality.

Figure out what is really important to themselves and their kids, and for goodness sake pay down (eliminate) every dollar of debt other than mortgage debt – if it means living on rice and beans for a couple of years, and catching a bus, then just do it!

And just go to the beach or lakeside for summer fun … no-one needs the false jollity of the theme parks or Vegas or wherever. Try camping again – it’s great fun.

Then I did 2 performance trials doing hard riding in hilly country, then checked my oxygen saturation with an oximeter. My O2 levels were fine … which would suggest my CO2 levels were not adversely affected

It came as no surprise that I couldn’t find actual studies regarding the dangers of wearing mask to support negative anecdotal “evidence”.

Since this virus is largely transmitted by people with zero symptoms, NONE of us knows if we are spewing out infection.

So, you wear a mask to protect OTHERS from your own droplets, emitted every time you speak. The science is clear on this.

If you are in an area of high viral load, and you don’t wear a mask, you are either

            1) ignorant of the science, or

            2) you are a sociopath who has no problem endangering others because you just don’t “feel like wearing one”, or “it’s against the Constitution” to have to wear one.

I’d be more worried about the dingo’s taking my baby.

Speaking of a greengrocer’s apostrophe, I used to be quite diligent about using the possessive (‘s) before a gerund (verb to noun form). But in recent years I’ve gone all modern and kinda dropped it. So now I would just say “the dingo taking my baby.”
The plural of dingo is dingoes.

I still stick to getting the subjunctive right when it pops up!

What’s really fucking ugly is that the Democratic Party faithful (Hillary Clinton partisans, if we’re going to be entirely honest) are using the exact same denial-playbook on Tara Reade, who is the accusing Biden of sexual assault, that Republicans used on Christine Blasey-Ford. Even somebody such as yourself who characterized the Kavanaugh accusations as “sexual hysteria” probably readily recognizes the rank hypocrisy: A political faction that was all about #MeToo is now throwing #MeToo under the bus just as enthusiastically as they previously embraced it.

As someone who truly supported #MeToo during the Kavanaugh hearings, it makes me want to projectile vomit until my abdominal muscles ache.

    • SW May 11, 2020 at 11:51 am #

During the Presidential debates in 2016 right after the Access Hollywood tape came out, Hillary went on full-bore attack on men who denigrated women, every man was a rapist wannabe (according to her screed) and women should always be believed. Yet sitting in the audience was one James Cargill, a Democratic operative, known for his ugly smear of Paula Jones and other Clinton accusers and was a member of Hillary’s inner circle.

      • Beryl of Oyl May 11, 2020 at 11:53 am #

Notice who held on to that tape, all those years? I don’t believe it was just Donald Trump they had preserved dirt on.

        • SW May 11, 2020 at 12:54 pm #

Nobody asked the questions — where did this tape come from? why would anyone be secretly taping a B-grade Bush family member and a loud-mouthed real estate developer years ago — (long before Trump became interested in politics)? who released this tape?

Chris Hedges made the point that all this blanket surveillance is not to “stop crime” but to build a case against people they want to destroy whenever they like.

          • Nightowl May 11, 2020 at 2:37 pm #

Perhaps, although in the case of Trump, if that is the best they have, it is really rather pathetic.

Comments like his are heard every 10 seconds in nearly every industry where there is money to be made and sluts desperate to get their hands on it.

The tape was just another example of Trump just spitting out the truth of what goes on 24/7, regardless of how ugly it may sound. I saw much worse than that back in my band days, and I am a nobody relatively speaking.

    • rainmaker May 11, 2020 at 12:21 pm #

Christine Blasey – Ford was a paid liar, and Kavanaugh was set up by Trump haters. Anyone with half a brain could see that.

Even somebody such as yourself who characterized the Kavanaugh accusations as “sexual hysteria” probably readily recognizes the rank hypocrisy: A political faction that was all about #MeToo is now throwing #MeToo under the bus just as enthusiastically as they previously embraced it.

It all seems pretty hypocritical to me too – but for the Biden / Dem camp, what are they supposed to do? Not many options, if they’re really going to nominate him. But they’re just politicians and it’s just politics as usual.

Brett Kavanaugh was qualitatively different – here was a life-long appointment to the highest bench, and an extremely influential position, and where the people need to be held to the highest possible standards … and this totally beer-addled sleaze walks way with the gig because he’s a Repub toad.

Back in 1971 my Chartered Accountant father assured me that the USD imprimatur & arms of state would protect us if all else failed.
And of course my CA father is now taking a dirt nap so I can’t give him the long awaited lecture he deserves for lying to me in my youth.

As one that has lived six decades of broken promises that extend from parents, early educators, college teachers, & university professors I, for one, have learned to base my future on behavioural predictors of future events. In brief, future behaviour is most accurately predicted based upon past behaviour. And B.F. Skinner was America’s best known Behaviorist that elucidated that universal truism.

The United States of America has lied in the past, present, & future.
Logically, America is behaviourally incapable of keeping a promise unless it is written & signed contractually. Without the signed signature on a contract we can all assume the ‘check is in the mail’.

Thanks Uncle Sam, you lying bastard piece of crap.

When Katrina hit New Awlins in 2005, many an addict was abruptly cut off from narcotics, benzos, antidepressants, etc…acute withdrawal everywhere. When big cities across the USA break down in the very near future…acute withdrawals will be the norm and there will be terror everywhere. Zombie apocalypse. Add in some meth, coke, heroin, alcohol, and RX meds….imagine the withdrawal outcome. Shut off the EBT cards at the same time. Tribulation times here we come. Society on major withdrawal.

Get right with the Lord Jesus. He is near. He is the Prince of Peace. Emmanuel. Great High Priest. Call upon Him. He is merciful. He will heal you. He will set you free.

      Psalm 103:1-14
      1 Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
      2
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
      3
      Who forgives all your iniquities,
      Who heals all your diseases,
      4
Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
      5
Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
      6
      The Lord executes righteousness
And justice for all who are oppressed.
      7
He made known His ways to Moses,
His acts to the children of Israel.
      8
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.
      9
He will not always strive with us,
Nor will He keep His anger forever.
      10
He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
Nor punished us according to our iniquities.
      11
For as the heavens are high above the earth,
      So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;
      12
As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
      13
As a father pities his children,
So the Lord pities those who fear Him.
      14
      For He knows our frame;
He remembers that we are dust.

A lot of Americans have been coerced into using electronic (traceable) payments for online (traceable) shopping. That’s what the shutdown is for.

You are kidding right? There is no conspiracy … physical cash can be a vector for the virus, and contactless payment is not … it’s simple.Have a shut-down in order to create a cashless society? What paranoia is this? What imaginary dots are you joining up now?

    • Beryl of Oyl May 11, 2020 at 12:03 pm #

      No, I’m not.
It’s not a conspiracy, it is a plan that we can see taking place.
The shut-down isn’t for just one reason. I never said it was.
The ongoing shut-down, after the original two weeks we were told were necessary to “flatten the curve” and prevent the hospitals from being overwhelmed, has long gone by, and we now know what some of us already knew, that the hospitals were not only not overwhelmed, they were never going to be.
      Yet the shut-down continues.

The people who were most in need of protection, who could not protect themselves, were hard-hit by the Chinese virus even as Andrew Cuomo watched it happen. But NYPD is out telling adults in America not to stand too close together in parks.

        • Beryl of Oyl May 11, 2020 at 12:31 pm #

I’m afraid it’s also because the virus didn’t cooperate with the hoped-for agenda of the mail-in vote for “safety” reasons.
          Not enough deaths.
So now they need to ramp up the fear of its sudden resurgence, if people throw caution to the wind and do something reckless like step foot on a beach.
How is it that masks “work” along with “social distancing”, so much so that police are enforcing that, but it won’t be safe to vote in person with ‘protocols’ in place?

          • Cargill May 11, 2020 at 3:45 pm #

I’m afraid it’s also because the virus didn’t cooperate with the hoped-for agenda of the mail-in vote for “safety” reasons.

So many of you people can’t stand the idea of vote-by-mail … because you know the inconvenient truth: if more and more Americans vote, the Repubs lose more and more. They only win at all by suppressing minorities, and discouraging voting at each election.

And please don’t bore me with the tired trope about “vote fraud” – it is false and ridiculous. And I agree anyway that the rolls should be cleaned up and updated (but not purged), however that has nothing to do with postal voting, which everyone knows.

Perhaps in your tiny little dark world Tailgunner, but for many people it’s been on the agenda for a long time – especially the pro-democracy, voter-reform outfits.

And how can anyone be against postal voting? In any year, but especially in a pandemic year, where it’s likely there will still be no vaccine, treatment, or herd immunity by 3 November.

It is absolutely evil that the Republican thugs would put their electoral fortunes higher than the potential deaths of thousands, if people are forced to go in person to polling booths.

The nation – if it were serious about democracy and fairness – would be going full-tilt to organise a universal vote-by-mail for November, and also ensuring the rolls are correct, people are encouraged to enrol, and that all voter suppression be outlawed.

But Republican politicians in America don’t care about democracy and fairness … those are for wimps and losers … they only care about the lust for power.

Roll on 3 November (by postal voting)! 🙂

Democrats only care about winning and power hence why they cheat.
Also why after every election huge chinks of military voter mail in ballots end up in dumpsters by “accident.”

Since the DNC is losing millions of faux voters that popular vote meme has taken a bruising so now they want mail in vote so they can pack the ballot box or simple pull the D lever even when the R lever should have been pulled.

No thanks you keep your mail in ballot bullshit we will vote the way we should in person one vote per person now if they R’s would push through a law requiring valid verifiable ID to vote.

        Bullseye.

I find it curious how the daily Task Force (Trump, Fauci, et al) never don the masks or practice the social distancing they preach for the rest of us. If they cannot lead by example–even publicly!–how seriously should we take this?

Most hospitals are indeed UNDERwhelmed. I have a good friend who works at the largest hospital in my state; entire floors have been shut down and a good portion of the nursing staff has been sent home. They spent $3 million on a temporary surge facility they never used. There is a virus, no doubt, but the data (such as Stanford’s recent antibody study) shows that statistically this is no worse than a bad flu season. And yet the show–and the trashing of our First Amendment rights–goes on.

Here are the stats from where I live: state population 29,472,295 and the number of fatalities is 1,088. The fatality rate is 0.00003622 and the number of confirmed cases is 0.00131883. And confirmed cases, remember, do not mean they’re sick enough to be hospitalized. The lockdown started over a month ago and even with a long incubation time, it’s served its purpose. Yes, more people will get the virus but that doesn’t mean everyone who gets it will die from it.

Have you ever noticed no pictures from inside nursing homes? Only ICUs. If we want to protect the elderly, especially those who are the sickest, why are we not hearing about mandates to increase staff in nursing homes? We’ve all visited people in one of these and they’re run with low paid workers and not many of them.

Nicely written screed Jim, really vintage Jim. I am so happy that you temporarily gave up your rants against the feckless Dems to a post with some real meat. This is the current meme: deflation then inflation. But then what? Social disintegration and unrest? riots in all the urban shitholes? Balkanization of the entire country to a world made by hand?
It is starting to appear that this is what collapse looks like. The real problem which Jim points out is that when most of the jobs are service and financial jobs and not productive jobs, their disappearance means the end of a consumption based economy. This pandemic would not be much worse than the 1918 version if we were a nation of small towns and small businesses and small farmers. The very structure of the current globalized consumption economy reliant on fossil energy powered machines probably spells doom for the model until people can find the time and energy to relocate and start to produce products and food locally. Our food model is really terrifying with just a handful of meat packing plants doing business with giant animal concentration camps feeding our backyard barbecues. Most of the midwest bread basket farms produce soy and corn and wheat destined for export or ethanol or animal feed. Not people food. Meanwhile the elites are still winning just like they always have for centuries. Talk of revolution and real change never really pans out. Voting is a delusion in an electoral college system. Get ready out there for a real memorable year or two or ten because this is what collapse looks like.

The sick add up to numbers overwhelming metropolitan/rural hospital personnel and facilities in many places. Not all, so not witnessing ot being an unfortunate participant in real time tends to bring disbelief of particular events.

Like, the Moon Landing was fake; there was no 1941-45 Holocaust (Eisenhower was a liar?); China and Iran are no threat to western civilization etc.

Covid-19 would be much less a real time threat if EMS used Triage to assure orderly handling of critical patients. Of course that gets personal if the triage denies one or more family members life saving medical care… Had triage been employed to prevent hospital/medical equipment and personnel overload, damping down the caseload growth rate would not have been necessary.

The test comes in a few months; as second wave infection comes, and to what levels. Circa 1920 Influenza second wave was much higher than the initial number peak. A second wave more extreme than the present numbers shall reach into food distribution, utilities & communications maintenance, and mundane necessities like sewers, garbage and water in household taps. Highway “level of service” (maintenance) has not been affected this time around.

These issues are covered in J H Kunstler’s THE LONG EMERGENCY. Mentioned in bare bones passing in Kunstler’s book and writings since is the need to replace pre-WWII rail matrix, particularly rail into food districts linked to food processing facilities, and rr served victuals/necessities warehousing downtown.

The elevated lines in Chicago and New York had en route food supply warehousing in the hearts of downtown, to assure rail delivery of victuals in night hours when commuter trains were out of service.. This was the rule when most all US Cities had Electric Urban Railway lines bringing supplies into cities & towns. These systems were systematically demolished when anti-trust action was brought against electric utilities operating rail lines.

Of course one expects the label of fool when suggesting even a thin overlay of railway lines to assure food distribution. Lacking enhanced railway (Second Dimension Surface Logistics Platform) as Famine Hedge, then William Forstchen’s ONE SECOND AFTER post-EMP scenario becomes equally prescient as JHK Long Emergency narration. Read Forstchen to see how cannibalism comes to America.

It is worth repeating: persons with sequestered wealth would do a wise thing to concern themselves with rehab of American food supply railway links. Maintaining food distribution via rebuilt breadbasket rail links when trucking is undependable or plainly disabled by sickness. False Flag event EMP etc.,is still achievable, but only a sad, out of reach regret after the financial system folds. See Mike Walker Publishing spv.co.uk for all time USA rail lines map atlas books. Adopt a rail branch line.near your family home…

That’s because Richard Nixon came from the political school of a turkey in every pot. Today’s politicians don’t come from that school anymore as Maynard Keynes changed that when Nixon adopted his thinking, temporarily. This advent ushered in Petrodollar supremacy & USD hegemon status for reserve currency USD in 1971 August.

No longer do we have Willy Stark advocating for a turkey in every pot politics as All the King’s Men have departed for neoliberal financial utopia.

It’s easier to fool people than to get them to admit they’ve been fooled. Think about it. And every great salesmen will tell you that the secret is getting the person to sell themselves.

Most will never admit it. They’ve fooled the world and now they have the world. And since we have a Democracy (add italics denoting sickness), the politicians have to go along with this – rather than fucking LEADING. Thus Democracy is fatally flawed and contradindicated and the Fascist/National Socialist Republic model is prescribed. Once the Demons are overthrown and order restored, voting can recommence, with perhaps 5% of the people now voting having any remaining right to do so. Only the worthy in other words.

Five percent may be too generous. Or we can have a graduated citizenship, with more voting at the local level, and fewer and fewer at the State and National level – more qualifications in other words.

    Fox 6

The owner of a Massachusetts ice cream parlor closed its doors just one day after reopening amid the coronavirus pandemic in response to how angry customers mistreated a teenage employee.

Mark Lawrence, who for 19 years has operated Polar Cave Ice Cream Parlour in Mashpee, a small town on Cape Cod, waited to reopen his shop under the state’s restaurant guidelines until Mother’s Day weekend.

But Friday’s grand reopening turned into a harsh lesson for the small business, according to Lawrence, who told FOX25 Boston that customers frustrated with having to wait longer for their ice cream after the shop grew busy took their anger out on his staff.

“One of my best workers quit yesterday at the end of her shift,” he said. “But the words she was called and the language, you wouldn’t even say in a men’s locker room, and to say it to a 17-year-old kid, they should be ashamed of themselves.”

Under a new plan to keep customers and employees safe, Lawrence said he posted on the shop’s Facebook page that all orders must be placed one hour in advance. However, many patrons didn’t follow the new rules, according to Lawrence, and appeared to forget their manners after weeks of social distancing.

“People have forgotten how to treat other human beings in the six or seven weeks that they’ve been confined to their homes,” he told the station. “They have no clue how to respect other human beings.”

Lawrence said he will close the shop to the general public until he comes up with a new operating plan.

JS: Are we human beings or Carguillean Antipodean Dingoes? Are we men, or “grump Marxists” who want to “bust God”. People want their ice cream and no little Becky’s are going to get in their way. They want back to Normal! But are they normal anymore? As if that was even a good thing?

He needs to get Ice Cream Robots or if those don’t exist yet, vending machines that serve ice cream. Or if those don’t exist, put the servers behind glass where they can’t even hear the customers. The customers just press the right button, and the ice cream girl makes up their cone or whatever.

Third great article in a row.

It would be good if everyone in America considers that “They” fully realize we’re all going to blow, but that “They” have carefully maneuvered us all to release that frustration on to each other.
If we all do that, or if enough of us do that, it gives “Them” a great excuse to enact even more surveillance, more controls… and more and more….Being naughty, we will have brought it all on ourselves, what else could “They” do.

There must be behaviors people can engage in that do not involve violence to each other or to government entities (who all have Schumer’s “6 ways from Sunday” – whatever the fuck that actually means – to pay us back)

First step seems to be to refuse utterly to fight with anyone at all in real life over politics. Nothing could be more pointless and have less impact on actual outcomes.

Second step seems to be stop believing what you hear/see on TV and elsewhere without checking for an rock-solid original source. There was a time when journalists could not print specious claims lthat came from “a White House source”. or “an anonymous person who was in ther oom” or any of the other shit they make up these days.
Watch the old movie All The president’s Men and pay attention to how they twisted themselves into knots trying to think of ways to go to print with verifiable data or sources for shit they already knew from Deep Throat>
Today, Deep Throats are made up at pseudo-journalists and CIA desks, and we all sucker for it, get mad, and then go punch someone in a MAGA hat or fight over turkey with the hipster son-in-law. People have gotten divorced over this far-off made up bullshit.

We need to develop a little more street-smarts on all of this and not fight each other like pawns in a game we are set up to lose.

re: Biden. No sane person will vote for a guy who hides in a crisis the way he is. He could do something that helps – not helps the Trump administration but The People, but he’s not lifting a weak finger.
People accuse Carter of having been weak but he was a triathlete compared to Biden.
Watch Joe talk while asking yourself “does he seem to care about anything other than his precious self”? How you can interpret his demeanor as being engaged with his fellow Americans at all is beyond me.
Them imagine some old-school guy like Kennedy as the candidate in a crisis. He’d be doing some kind of actually helpful or inspiring shit.
Biden is clearly done with it all,on vacation, and just running the clock till his intended replacement enters Stage Left.

Biden is clearly done with it all,on vacation, and just running the clock till his intended replacement enters Stage Left.

There is the other point of view … the very best thing is for Joe to just keep his mouth shut, and let Trump stew in his own juice … the polls are in Joe’s favour, and getting steadily more dire for Trump.

Something drastic has to happen for him not to be the candidate on 3 November.

Diners and servers will have to wear masks.

    No indoor dining, only outdoor

Diners need to sit 6 ft apart

Bill cannot be paid in cash

Number of outdoor diners limited at any given time

    And so on

    IOW, most restaurants are finished.

Outdoor dining, what a joke. This ain’t Cannes (where it’s been 90°F all week, so our relatives say) We tried to go for a walk thru the meadows along the river Sat afternoon, went about 1/2 mile before cold, cutting winds, snow squalls, blowing dust and debris and 35° F temps drove us back to our warm car. There’s your outdoor dining conditions. Sleet and hail forecast for tonite … you’d have to be a goddam fool to set up an outdoor dining area in these conditions.

A common misnomer here: MMT is being hung with a bad name. All MMT is, is an explanation of the structure of our current monetary system. It isn’t a policy, just a description of infrastructure. That this system is abused by immoral and criminal types is a whole different matter.

Don’t say it is MMT. Be more accurate… it is our corrupt government’s, banking system’s, and Wall St.’s misuse of the system.

Keynesianism is even getting wrongfully condemned. Keynes wrote that their could be government stimulus occasionally in times of economic panics. He never suggested that it would be done with the unGodly amounts that our monetary and fiscal operators flow out like and endless fire hose.

Your assessment of the average American consumer/homeowner is accurate Jim and the demise of this over indebted, and decreasingly compensated class is one of the controlled demolitions that bring down one of the two Towers of the American economy. The other Tower, the Business Tax Rateable, is in the process of planting charges within its structure in the form of Tax Assessment Reductions from the local municipal government that they reside in that will deal a fatal blow to the revenue streams of the towns that rely on them for large payments.

In the end, the terrorists will be blamed (Covid-19) and the American tax paying public shall be reduced from being the consumers of record to being the consumed, another pile of smoking rubble. As George Carlin was wont to say, “Nobody notices, nobody cares”.

It is Financial Controlled Demolition, Walt. The next leg down financially with the latest REPO backstop of $6.3 trillion USD added to the Federal Reserve balance sheet will necessitate municipal tax base increases on both Residential & Commercial tax base for governance revenue building.

This is why I keep telling you to declare your municipal tax base a marijuana friendly tax zone whereby your community can cash in on marijuana sales tax from the Great Unwashed Masses of homeowners & business owners that are indentured into servitude via municipal tax requirements of governance like yourself.

Sell marijuana, Walt. Collect the tax on pot sales to fill municipal coffers with a financial hedge against Controlled Demolition of the current tax base & dysfunctional business model that wrought this situation to begin with.

Republican Congress members upset banks dropping support for fossil fuels
A letter to the president ignores the fact that wind and solar employ people, too.

    https://arstechnica.com/science/2020/05/republican-congress-members-upset-banks-dropping-support-for-fossil-fuels/

“Last week, Republican House members sent a letter to President Donald Trump in which they decried banks’ recent re-evaluations of the risks of fossil fuel investments. While the letter doesn’t call for any particular action, it repeatedly mentions the assistance offered to banks via the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act 9 (CARES Act), and it implies that the banks aren’t living up to their end of the deal. Throughout the letter, its signatories seem to ignore the fact that the fossil fuel sector is not the only component of the US energy economy.

“The letter was sent to Trump by a collection of 14 senators and 22 representatives, all Republican. In addition to Trump, the letter cc’d a few senior administration officials, including the secretaries of the Department of Energy and the Department of the Treasury and the CEOs of six banks. The CEOs of three fossil fuel industry groups were also included.

“The letter comes as the recent events have accelerated banks’ decisions to re-evaluate fossil fuel investments. In the long term, fossil fuel development faced two significant challenges. The first is that wind and solar generation have become cost-competitive with fossil fuels in most markets. The second is that the pledges made to limit future fossil fuel emissions will likely mean that some fossil fuel deposits will be left undeveloped. That means that some of the resources now held as assets by fossil fuel companies will end up ‘stranded’—meaning the assets will turn out to have no value.”

We’re fast approaching the day when governments the world ’round no longer identify fossil fuel interests with their own interests. Should be quite a sight to see.

    • BackRowHeckler May 11, 2020 at 7:01 pm #

      Elrond

What will we be running everything on if it’s not ‘fossil fuels’. How will you heat your houses and run your cars in Canada without coal, oil, natgas and nuclear? Please don’t say windmills and solar panels because Michael Moore exposes those as total scams in ‘Planet of the Humans’ which we already knew anyway.

      Brh

      • Elrond Hubbard May 11, 2020 at 7:20 pm #

What are you imputing, BRH? That I think exponential growth can somehow continue? I don’t. That I expect the private automobile to reign supreme forever? I don’t. But I do expect civilization to carry on in some form, and that it will carry on exploiting whatever energy sources are available. Like fluid taking on the shape of its container, society will adjust within the energy constraints imposed on it. John Michael Greer is dead wrong: time is linear, not circular, and nothing ever un-happens. We are not going back to the 19th century.

        • Janos Skorenzy May 11, 2020 at 7:46 pm #

What about Moore’s movie, Planet of Humans? Do you agree that Green Energy is just a Red or Communist Hoax?

I can’t recall that outrageous claim being made. Can you reference the time-point where that is stated?

      • cbeard May 15, 2020 at 7:14 am #

Sigh? BRH, what you don’t seem to get is the fact that traditional energy sources such as oil, coal, etc. could be extended for decades or maybe centuries with the use of alternative power. In my locale, solar makes the most sense. Stay connected to the grid, use whatever alternative power is available, cut your energy cost in half or more. If the big business, big energy conglomerates weren’t so stupid, greedy, shortsighted, pick your adjective, they could probably figure out a way to make money from other energy sources. The best way would be to work on improving the technology, getting the cost down where more people cam afford it and actually manufacturing and selling the equipment. Not building huge solar, wind farms which would sell the cheap power to consumers at inflated rates.

A few things arise from these paragraphs:

      1. It doesn’t directly address the fact that the price of oil has crashed, along with demand, and especially for the frackers – they are cactus.

      2. The letter almost lays out the whole case for why the banks are being rational and sober about not “supporting” the fossil fuel companies like they used to.

      3. And the fossil fuel industry must save a great deal of money on hiring lobbyists – they’ve got senators and reps who do all their lobbying for them … but I guess they’re full paid-up as well.

Anyway – we live in interesting times … in both the financial and energy arenas.

Advancement Project: This organization works to organize “communities of color” into politically cohesive units while disseminating its leftist worldviews and values as broadly as possible by way of a sophisticated communications department.

Air America Radio: Now defunct, this was a self-identified “liberal” radio network.

I remain a renewables agnostic myself – and I agree the transition is going to long and costly. Still it’s better than the alternative … total reliance on fossil fuels, with a death race to see which comes first: global warming or oil depletion.

But it’s a somewhat different argument to the one in the letter.

          Janos

For one who takes such an elevated interest in such things, you seem very confused about the terminology.

          This is a hijab:

          https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcQK3et0MG8UW9eXXcav6lmS8KLe3ekijswyGPle61ZoYxm3O2RC&usqp=CAU

It would do nothing for any efforts you were to make to slow transmission of anything at all, with the possible exception of head lice. Even assuming you considered a tiny courtesy to your fellow citizens to be as important as your self-image, which you clearly don’t.

In the interests of full disclosure (haha), I’m just going to point out that I’ve worn a ‘social’ mask to the shops but not anywhere else. I walk the dog without a mask and I chat to my neighbours in their gardens or in the street without a mask. The virus transmits more easily indoors than outdoors. Nightowl, from his comments, is also too childish and obsessed with his self-image to make the distinction.

When I made the comment about a smile (I mostly ignore people’s eyes when I’m wearing a mask because I’m very easily embarrassed) it was because I’d watched a young district nurse attempting to remove her PPE on the pavement outside a flat where she’d been visiting – SHE was wearing a mask (naturally) and I wasn’t. Her papery pinny was blowing slightly in the breeze, as I’ve already described with reference to my husband’s experience) while she attempted to remove it, so any virus that might have been on it would have been blowing about her. Just as well she was wearing a mask (she wasn’t lucky enough to have goggles). So I smiled at her, with some sympathy, and I could tell, even with the mask, that her response was friendly. We’re a friendly people, even in Edinburgh.

Like I said, I wear one to the shops. Just the shops. Because it seems the virus transmits more easily indoors, where people like shop assistants work. That means, in my particular case (since the corner shop I most frequent is about 120 seconds’ walk from my front door) that I’ve only worn the thing for about 20-30 minutes in total since I acquired a few of them a few weeks ago.

Which is a lot less time than you’ve spent wittering on about something which is merely a courtesy to your fellow humans – and virtue signalling about your ‘freedom’ to keep the infection rate at a higher level than it needs to be.

A reasonable person would think ‘OK, the lockdown is bad, and this is a minute inconvenience that I can accept in order to make the post-lockdown phase slightly safer for people more vulnerable than myself that I might unknowingly be close to while I’m unknowingly infectious – people like the 20-something American bar worker I mentioned with asthma who’s concerned about the lack of consideration for other people that he’s noted in his fellow countrymen. And the workers in the store/lumber yard belonging to my husband’s American brother-in-law’s brother, which he had to close because some religious zealots refused to comply with the courtesy of wearing a mask (which the store presumably provided, even) and keeping a distance from other customers who didn’t share their religious zealotry.

There will be a workable vaccine for Covid before there will be one against dumbfuckery and ‘exceptionalist’ self-obsession.

I will be wearing a ‘social’ mask when I take the train down to my brother’s funeral too. That will be the longest I’ll ever wear one. I somehow think, because he was a much more reasonable and less selfish person than you, that he’d want me to take whatever sensible precautions were available, even if they were no guarantee of protection. I expect he probably wouldn’t even want me to flout the law and go down to England for his funeral. So I think a mask is a tiny compromise with the situation we find ourselves in.

          • GreenAlba May 12, 2020 at 10:44 am #

PS I’ve still to see a single police officer in the street or in a car anywhere near where I live, since this whole thing started, despite the fear porn. I guess that’s just because we’re normal, socially responsible people around here.

          • Janos Skorenzy May 12, 2020 at 1:14 pm #

No doubt you go to Muslim shops whenever you can. Just like any reasonable, non-selfish person, right?

How do you know you’re not infected? When were you tested? What gives you the right to talk and spew your water droplets, if you haven’t been tested, say a few minutes earlies, thus putting your victim (the person you’re talking to) at risk?

The local corner shop that I patronise more than anywhere else (especially in the current situation) is Italian.

And before it was Margiotta (a local chain) it was Santangeli.

I’ve nothing against helping our Scots-European neighbours, especially since most of them came during and after the second world war, like the early Poles.

Have you seen the beautiful Italian chapel built by the Italian POWs on Orkney during the war?

I don’t know I’m not infected. That’s why I pay the shop the courtesy of wearing a mask, so I’m not spewing water droplets.

And even if I’d had it, I wouldn’t know if I’d got it again. Every time my husband comes home from work, I wonder if he’s going to give me it. But you just have to do what you can and get on.

Again, Janos, you seem fated by your ideological blinkers (which might be a help in the absence of goggles) to miss the point. Again and again.

The wearing of a ‘social’ mask (i.e. if you’re not on the frontline), is to offer *some* protection to those around you in the event of you being infectious without knowing it (which applies to EVERYONE in the pre-symptomatic stage of Covid, as well as those permanently without symptoms or those with ambiguous symptoms).

This is a computer simulation – created by a Finnish university – of a cough in a grocery store:

          https://youtu.be/zs0hGe4ffC4

Invisible droplets go a lot further than we previously believed.

If the person who coughed (coughing, you will remember, is a sometimes sudden reflex action, not a social choice) was wearing a mask, the effect would be massively reduced. S/he might infect 1 person close by instead of 6 or 8, for example.

Goggles, on the other hand, help protect the wearer, which is why medics and nurses have to wear them. So far we are unaware of eyes with the ability to cough or sneeze, so you don’t need to wear goggles to help protect your fellow citizens, even if such a bizarre sympathetic urge were part of your personal make-up.

          • Janos Skorenzy May 12, 2020 at 1:18 pm #

So masks aren’t to help the wearer? I think Trent might be very unhappy to know that. But I might agree since Barnhardt said that even the fitted N95’s don’t really protect against this one at least. It’s too small.

          • GreenAlba May 12, 2020 at 2:08 pm #

“So masks aren’t to help the wearer?”

Principally you wearing one helps others protect themselves against you if you’re infected. But such things only work in a society/community where people are into reciprocity, which isn’t a very strong value in the US as far as I can see.

Also, I surmised (only surmised) that for the wearer, since some of the virus is absorbed by the cotton (hence the more layers the better and some layers of non-woven fabric, e.g. interfacing, in between, even better) so you might get a lower viral load (but assuming you were just wearing it on the bus or in a shop, not wearing it all day). But I’m just surmising. At my age, a bit of hopeful thinking on the matter isn’t out of order. When I’m surmising I let you know.

Like I said, I only wear one in shops – and I will on the train (and I really hope everyone else on the train will be wearing one), but mostly I’m lucky enough to be able to avoid public transport for the duration as I don’t need to get to work. I strongly suspect certain people commenting above are in the same fortunate position, but even better placed because they can inhabit their little car bubble, unlike me.

Chickenhawkery is everywhere, like a virus.

          • GreenAlba May 12, 2020 at 2:09 pm #

And they only help protect, as I’ve said many times.

You might infect 2 people instead of 6. That slows down the transmission rate and helps hospitals cope. Also, especially in a non-lockdown situation, it helps businesses by not having everyone off sick at once.

Comey had been investigating Trump’s Russia connection since before tthe election. Did he tell the American people that fact as he did with Hillary Clinton’s email investigation that many people say was the final straw? No. So during this investigation Flynn makes calls to Russian ambasssador and naturally the FBI questioned him. He lied. He was arrested. He pled guilty. He was going to jail. There is nothing wrong with any part of that narrrative. Comey helped Trump get elected and it cost him his job.

When women are masked, it accentuates the dagger eyes they give men. So it’s not only a token of submission, but simultaneously a weapon against the unbelievers. The women are confident, knowing they are backed by all the powers of the State and of Hell itself – much like the dollar bill.

One could say the same of high heels perhaps…..

Ahmoud the so called Georgia jogger was in heavy shoes and cargo shorts and 10 miles away from where he was staying. 10 miles one way is what a marathon runner does in suitable track ware and shaved legs. There are no bus routes in this area so what if he was out as a serious jogger stop and inspect/case a home under construction? Ahmoud was arrested in 2018 for stealing a TV which broke his probation for carrying a hand gun into a HS football game. The father of the shooter fighting for his life as Amhoud tried to wrestle the shotgun away was a police man who interviewed Amhoud and each knew each other so the gig was up not being known who he was and escape. Funny the facts I just stated have not been mentioned in the news. Gonna be another Treyvon Martin smelly mess of the left calling up racism chants then the stink as the father and son are exonerated. There had been break ins latley in the area and they have video in one that seems to fit Ahmound. The Fater and son were not hunting down a black man but trying to stop and hold a suspect for the police arrival but Armound decided to fight and possible kill father and son and make a get away

    • thwack May 11, 2020 at 8:06 pm #

      That joggaboo had it coming.

There is additional video surveillance of him inside the house at least two additional times, AT NIGHT.

      Was he jogging at 1am?

Im not saying anybody deserves to be shot dead for trespassing at a construction site; but thats not why he got shot.

He got shot because he tried to steal a shot gun from a shot gun owner.

      My wife?

      maybe

      My dog?

      maybe

      My shot gun?

Well, plenty of ‘joggers’ being shot, 107 in Chicago so far this month.

In Cincinatti shootings up 40%, all joggers.

Big jogger shootout in Ft Worth, TX last nite at a massive street party where social distancing rules not being observed

The only jogger the media seems to be interested in is the one shot while casing houses in Georgia. The elderly white couple gunned down visiting their sons grave in Maryland by a Jogger with a rifle doesn’t seem to be of much interest to the MSM.

NUMBERS EVERYONE SHOULD MEMORIZE, BECAUSE ONLY THE REAL COUNTS, ONLY THE REAL MATTERS, AND MAGICAL THINKING IS INFANTILE.

A CoronaCold by Gates (TM) particle is a sphere with a diameter of 0.125 microns.

N95 masks, ONLY WHEN RIGOROUSLY FITTED AND TESTED, stop approximately 95% of particles down to 0.300 microns. Anything smaller than 0.300 microns sails through an N95 mask, EVEN if it is rigorously custom-fitted.

0.125 microns is SMALLER than 0.300 microns. THEREFORE, N95 masks DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to block CoronaCold by Gates (TM), even when rigorously custom-fitted. Hence the unstoppable healthy spread of the virus and herd immunity.

Surgical masks are 60%-80% effective in blocking particles of 5.000 microns down to 0.300, depending on the type. Surgical masks are designed to keep the doctors’ and nurses’ boogers out of the flayed patient. This is not an exaggeration.

Cloth, like a cotton bandana, will block particles down to 200 microns when brand new. After washing, when the weave of the fabric softens and loosens, that increases to 400-600 microns.

Just to recapitulate for the sake of clarity, a CoronaCold by Gates (TM) particle is ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FIVE THOUSANDTHS OF A MICRON in diameter. 0.125 microns.

The pores in that Masonic Burqa of submission are 2.5 times wider for an N95 mask, up to 4800 times wider for a piece of fashion fabric.

I just grabbed a tape measure and measured myself shoulder-to-shoulder. Let’s call it 20 inches to use a round number. Let’s see what 4800 times wider than me is:

    20 inches X 4800 = 96,000 inches

    96,000 divided by 12 inches in a foot = 8000 feet

    8000 feet divided by 5280 feet in a mile = 1.51 miles

The ONLY THING that masks do is signal SUBMISSION TO THE LIE, a loud-and-proud declaration of being contra-educated and fully subscribed to the most infantile forms of magical thinking.
IF you think ANY of this has ANYTHING to do with “public health”, or a “pandemic” – THERE IS NO PANDEMIC, JUST A CHEST COLD… I just can’t even….
In the U.K., where the NHS is literally worshipped as a Neo-pagan entity, the mask is the veil of submission. It is a piece of “religious” garb, and any non-conformity to its dehumanizing submission to “the lord high god Enn Aitch Ess” will be beaten down in Talibanesque spirit, with the neighbors joining in, slain with the spirit of satanic piety.

In Italy, the Masonic Veil has become the symbol of “Italian pride”, the new national religion of narcissism, which with the full cooperation of the Antipope and his Antichurch, will attempt to grind the One True Church to dust.

And in the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave?

Total economic suicide and neo-pagan religious submission to New World Order totalitarianism without a single shot fired… OVER A CHEST COLD.

The movie “Plandemic” has the Streisand effect going for it. It’s the most banned movie in human history, although only a few weeks old. What are they afraid of? Everyone wants to know.

Babs tried to get shot of her beachfront property taken off the web for some reason. Then everyone wanted to know why she did and where exactly she lived, etc.

Emboldened, the film makes is planning a full length documentary. Miskovits seems legit, a tender soul who has been savaged by powerful medical capitalists. Humble, yet proud of her work, which she deems important. Nothing wrong about any of that – it is important and apparently she is good at it. Anglin cautions us: It’s possible this could be the beginning of a campaign of official misinformation. Anything this big had to take pushback into account and as Stalin said, the best way to deal with resistance is to lead it. I will let you know what he finds out. So far he is positive about the whole thing.

Oil demand is low because no one is driving much and industry is running in first gear.

That will not continue long, we will get most of our service economy back plus a bunch of new manufacturing because of Chinaphobia. I remember 2008 and the dearth of traffic afterword. Did not last long. Oil will return to prior value and demand once the surplus is exhausted.

Not to be confused with the oil shortage disaster in about twenty years.

    • Cargill May 11, 2020 at 10:41 pm #

That will not continue long …

Let’s hope that’s true enough … although world demand was pretty low pre-corona. You have to wonder whether prices will rise enough to make fracking (and Canadian tar-sands) the slightest bit viable, and whether anyone will invest further in the industry.

There must be an awful lot of oil patch guys and girls out there sitting on their hands.

      • JohnAZ May 12, 2020 at 9:10 am #

The real deal is that oil wells take a lot of money to stop and restart later. They will continue to pump until it does not make sense to pump economically. They are not a switch. That is why this surplus is growing so fast. Have you seen the pictures of the oil tankers off the coast of California?

        • Cargill May 12, 2020 at 7:51 pm #

          No – I’ll have a look.

I must admit we were mildly surprised to see so many oil wells on the stretch between Long Beach and Orange County – theory were everywhere, sandwiched between the beach road and the suburbs.

All Australian oil & gas production is either way in the Outback, or well offshore – never seen an oil well pumping up close here.

Everybody at the White House Press Conference today, masked. Everybody except Trump, the Alpha Male. Even the reporters. Even the obnoxious Johnathan Karl.

Chinese chick reporters got uppity, asking Drumph why he makes everything into a competition, while Americans are dying. He asked the Chink why she didn’t ask China that question. Outraged, she took off her mask and asked why he asked HER that – trying to invoke minority privilege. He ignored her uppity self.

That is a partisan view I reckon. What do you want – patsies?

It is the job of journalists in a democracy to ask hard, harsh, penetrating questions – to shine a light on bullshit, and to cut through the spin and talking points that politicians try to snow everybody with.

This is especially the case with a president that has no integrity or moral compass – and just lies all the time. And who has made blunder after blunder.

The press corp should be ruthless – not like the three little monkeys on Fox&Friends who glorify the great orange one. In fact I think the press corp has been far too respectful of Trump – he doesn’t deserve it … he’s a slug.

Trump needs to make a state visit. 34 is embarrassing low to report. A Trump state visit could make the situation newsworthy. Chaos follows Trump and 34 is hardly better than a slightly above average school shooters’ performance.

Trump can give advice on how to get their numbers up. Truth is, Trump does not even have to give any advice. His mere presence is enough to suck the air out of a room.

Air of intelligence. No Trump creates a vacuum wherever he goes. Any air is replaced by a miasma of death after it is sucked out. Then if you look hard enough everywhere the air is colored by an unpleasant orange tinge.

      S. Koreans need to stop taking care of themselves and get back to working meaningless shit jobs that won’t ever improve their lives. What is good enough for Americans is good enough for them.

So basically quantum computing is opening up portals to other dimensions and interdimensional beings who travel through these portals to our dimension are recognized as AI. So they truly are summoning the demon. The time draws near when a person’s conciousness will be downloadable to a chip. That’s what they say. Where will the conciousness really go? Who possesses it? But these are only things we know because Silicon Valley has told us so. But what don’t we know? We have also been told that AI could result in an immortal tyrant taking complete control of humanity. Sound familiar? Pride comes before the fall. And how very proud they are.

I made a tinfoil hat and connected it with a glowing rope of white LEDs (for full spectrum) to my computer. I used shipping tape at each end for good adhesion but so far my consciousness has not moved at all. What gives?

The method was used in Lawnmower Man the movie and most recently in the ending of this seasons Westworld when the life got sucked out of Dolores by the big grey tennis ball. It should be working!

Cargill is always using racial slurs against Whites. Is that Ok down there? Is it something Leftist Whites do down there? Or is he not White? Perhaps one of those who looks White, but doesn’t so identify.

          • sophia May 12, 2020 at 1:30 pm #

In other words, Cargill doesn’t believe in free speech. Why doesn’t he concentrate on wrecking his own country?

          • elysianfield May 12, 2020 at 3:06 pm #

” free speech doesn’t include race hate, in my book.”

            Cargill,
“Race Hate” is a nebulous concept. Can you give us a good working definition?

          • sophia May 13, 2020 at 5:08 pm #

” free speech doesn’t include race hate, in my book.”

Since he has said that only whites can be racist, that presumably means that any hate speech is OK so long as it isn’t uttered by a white person.

The solution here, folks, is to stop feeding trolls.

We debase ourselves by engaging with such low characters and allowing the blog to be tied up with crap.

        • SoftStarLight May 12, 2020 at 9:45 am #

Don’t worry TS. If you have seen Cargill in action you will see he spouts racist denigrations all the time. Cargill believes it is perfectly fine and normal to be racist against whites. And Cargill has stated in the past that no other racial group can be racist but whites. So yes, he needs to expand his dimensions :-).

          • Majella May 12, 2020 at 11:13 am #

Methinks you’re a tad oversensitive – seeing any criticism of a white person as being “racist” is nuts.

          • Janos Skorenzy May 12, 2020 at 1:29 pm #

He just called us honkies, Maj. And raves about how weak and pathetic we are. All classic Tribal slurs.

          • sophia May 12, 2020 at 1:37 pm #

It isn’t criticism of a white person that is a problem. Only the left thinks like that because they are dishonest as to their true agenda. How disingenuous.

No, the danger comes frm the systematic dehumanization of a group, as a group. Whites – uniquely racist in the world. Uniquely conquering in this world. Only they are capable of racism!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the hell is racism then?

Can it really be possible to be that stupid? I am doubtful.

            Karma never sleeps.

Most groups / countries have engaged in racism. No race has failed to do so.

If you look at history, it is this sort of dehumanization of the other and ascribing to them evil characteristics as if they are uniquely capable of such, which is the precursor, the INTENDED precursor, to physical violence and oppression. That violence against whites is being plotted and abetted by whites is kind of unfathomable, yet we see it before our eyes.

          • Janos Skorenzy May 12, 2020 at 1:49 pm #

It’s natural to prefer one’s own group. That means some degree of Xenophobia is natural. Xenophillia is a mental/emotional/moral disease that one is liable to get if they hate their own people.

See Sir Arthur Keith’s Law of Enmity and Amity. The West has lost this completely and is on its way out. To put it another ways, We didn’t love ourselves like Christ said we should. How then could we love anyone else? I’m talking on the macro or collective level here, but the principle is true on the micro or individual level as well. Christianity never focused on loving oneself at all. Just always assume we did and it was horrible. I have a very different outlook.

The Mahayana takes the same stand. Psychologists have stopped the Dalia Lama in his speeches, saying that Westerners don’t love themselves (as individuals). I don’t think they meant to be rude but they couldn’t abide the untruth he was perpetrating unknown to himself. The very poised Dalai Lama was flustered. Apparently he now accepts that the West has gone wrong and this isn’t always helpful advice.

I might add that alone among prominent religious figures, He has said that Whites have the right to their own Nations. Not one Bishop, Pope, or Minister has done the same for us. Only the ethnic and religiously alien Dalai Lama. God bless him.

          • Janos Skorenzy May 12, 2020 at 1:53 pm #

As Hitler said, echoing Lord Buddha, life is struggle. If you don’t want to struggle, then get out of the way of those who still want a place in the world. Can we be clear that the morality of monks and renounciates is going to be very different from people still in the world, still belonging to nations and still having to provide for and protect their families?

Yet the morality of other worldliness conquered the West once people started taking that part of Christ’s message seriously. Who knows what He would have really said about this? We have so little of his teaching…..

          • SoftStarLight May 12, 2020 at 2:51 pm #

They purposely kept Christ’s teachings from us as much as they could. We are lucky to have what we have. You know, I never looked at it quite like that. Come to think of it there is no religious leader at all who says anything about whites really. That is interesting information about the Dalai Lama’s position.

          • GreenAlba May 12, 2020 at 4:10 pm #

“Who knows what He would have really said about this?”

Why would he have said anything about it? He thought the world was coming to an end within the lifetime of his contemporaneous disciples. It didn’t, so you’ve had to make stuff up yourselves.

            Extrapolation, projection, whatever…

          • GreenAlba May 12, 2020 at 4:11 pm #

I had to too, for a long while.

          • SoftStarLight May 12, 2020 at 5:11 pm #

You just misunderstood Alba. Don’t you understand? As soon as Christ rose into the clouds it was the Latter Days and the generations of the Latter Days. It has been ever since and will be until the end of the Age. Why question everything all the time? Sometimes its ok to admit we don’t understand and just accept. Certainly you don’t really understand all the mechanics of how the climate really works but you have faith in the established scientists who say the world is warming. It’s like that. And you know what. I am sorry I criticized you for believing what you do. I should have been more respectful even in my disagreements.

          • GreenAlba May 12, 2020 at 8:25 pm #

            SSL

I have no more ‘faith’ in scientists than I have in you or me. Faith is nothing to do with it. I read the evidence. You choose not to. The basics of AGW are not rocket science – just normal physical science.

You would understand anthropogenic warming if you chose to read even minimally about it, but instead you go looking for the writings of contrarians, because you had your agenda first and went looking for supposed ‘facts’ afterwards to reinforce it.

I have no agenda – it would be delightful if none of it were true.

    S. Koreans need to stop taking care of themselves and get back to working meaningless shit jobs that won’t ever improve their lives. What is good enough for Americans is good enough for them.

All kidding aside, I’ve actually thought about this quite a lot, and I think you’re absolutely right.

There is no doubt an extremely intelligent couple of percent in America, and with all the benefits of solid family, sufficient wealth, good schools and universities, a strong worth ethic, and a healthy ambitious streak … they get ahead and are very successful.

Some are even millionaire / billionaire successful, but that is a minority of the minority … most do okay, have meaningful and satisfying careers, and generally do better than their parents did.

That’s pretty much the Australian model too … but America seems to have vast numbers of people who are “working poor” – white, black, Latino, urban, and rural. And they stay that way. We seem to have a much larger “middle class”, or aspirational working class, and a relatively small shit-kicker class.

Of course, we don’t have the long history of African-American slavery | post-slavery, no massive Latino immigration, and much else … most of our immigration has been from southern and eastern Europe, and SE Asia, and it has been extremely successful.

I’m just musing here about perceived differences – I have no hard data to cite … but we have had a collective 15-16 months in North America, plus close family in Maryland, so it’s not like it’s just a seven-day jaunt in Las Vegas, and suddenly I’m an expert.

    • SoftStarLight May 12, 2020 at 9:56 am #

Oh you aren’t an expert? You shouldn’t downplay yourself. You are so smart. Now if you could simply harness that power for the Light. May I bring something to your attention. You have noticed that Australia appears much more successful socially because it is not as diverse.

“Of course, we don’t have the long history of African-American slavery | post-slavery, no massive Latino immigration, and much else … most of our immigration has been from southern and eastern Europe, and SE Asia, and it has been extremely successful.”

You are right. Because your population is more homogenous than the US it would seem Australia does not have the same level of social ill that the US has. And notice its not because anyone in that mix is bad, or is being condemned as bad. You are simply noticing a natural function of nature and human behavior. The truth is within you and you are speaking it here. I’m so excited this morning to read this that I just feel like the day has a totally different feeling now.

    Truly disturbing…

Mother’s Day message from Trump: I’ll be in meetings but F-35 is ‘best in the world’

When asked what he was doing on Mother’s Day…Trump didn’t really answer the question, and instead pivoted to talking about the U.S. military. Here’s what he said:

“Well, we’ll be together. I’m going to a Camp David meeting — a big meeting with the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Camp David is this very special place that nobody ever gets to see but it’s a great work environment. And we’re going to have meetings on different things.

And we’re going to have meetings on different things, and our military has never looked better. It’s never been better. We’ve never had the kind of equipment that we have now.

And we had planes that were 50 years old, and more. Fighter jets — now we have the best in the world, the F-35 and the F-18, and you know, what we have is incredible.

The equipment and the people we have are great, but you know, they have to have equipment.

And we spent $1.5 trillion — really, more than that. And we’ve totally rebuilt our military, which you have to do. You know, I’m a very budget-conscious person. But you have to do.

The nice thing is — it’s all built in the USA. And plenty of equipment coming. Lot of this equipment is coming. So it’s very important that we have the best military and we have the… our military has never been in condition like it is now and soon will be.”

I really think I’m one of the minority here who reads JHK’s essays carefully, considers them, and actually comments on them.

Much of what he says about societal and financial collapse, and resource depletion, resonates strongly with me. I’m deeply pessimistic, and would love all the crazy hyper-consumerism to just disappear, and for us to live simpler lives.

Of course no-one wants the pandemic, but let’s really hope some genuine re-sets come out of it (but I shan’t hold my breath).

And it’s the RWNJ loonies who amaze me – with their fear-filled conspiracy theories and over-heated imaginations. And the worse thing … even when they do recognise a genuine issue or problem or crisis, they always without fail get the cause totally wrong, and blame totally the wrong people. They look exactly 180° in the wrong direction.

There is an awful lot of victim attacking on here as well … black guy gets shot – it was all his fault – and a hundred other examples.

It’s not me making JHK “look loony” comrade 🙂

    What Trump should do now.

Revise re-election strategy. Go full Bernie/AOC

Eliminate income tax on everyone earning less that $100,000.

Establish a guaranteed national income of $25,000.

    Inaugurate National Health care.

    Forgive all student loans.

Establish a wealth tax. All wealth over $1 billion to be taxed at 100%, etc.

    Prepare for future bankruptcy.

Let’s just do it and get it over with quickly because its gonna happen anyway.

    • JohnAZ May 12, 2020 at 8:57 am #

      Wow.

      A pure progressive!

One minor problem, every dollar that is created through no labor involved or created by increasing debt is a dollar that does not really exist. I guess imaginary dollars will be used to buy imaginary goods and services.

Where exactly do you want to get all these imaginary dollars?

I know, we will get them by robbing Monopoly games. The dollars created by the government will be worth the same amount as the Monopoly money.

Prepare for bankruptcy? How exactly do you do that? The degree of socialism we have today has made certain age groups and poverty groups dependent on the government. The spending power of these consumer groups provide a big chunk of the economy.

The idea that the government is going to bail out the gimme people is a false hope. The bail out is worthless.

Oh yes! Thank you for pointing out how involved Republicans are in the same crimes the Democrats are. You’re right! They do all attend the same dinner parties and most of them are on very friendly terms privately when not publicly. But sorry. Obama and Eric Holder were deeply involved, along with others. So if a price is paid then Justice demands that they pay too. There is no way to protect your god from this one. But you can take some satisfaction of course that yes indeed, the Bushes were involved too.

Of all the scams, federally-backed student loans are one of the worst. Colleges, law schools etc. have been doubling, tripling, and quadrupling tuition over the last 15 years or so, because with nearly limitless borrowing for school backed by the Fed, they can charge students whatever they want. When students, aka student-loan-conduits take out these loans everyone involved in the transaction knows that the money will never be paid back. Borrower (student) lender (government) and principal beneficiary (college, law school, grad school etc.) all know that the student will never earn enough money to repay 150-$250,000 in debt, or more, and that the “loan” isn’t really a loan at all. . .and yet the beat goes on. Some students will go to schools in Florida so they can spend years hanging out on the beach financed by the government. . .and the situation just gets worse every year. It will all have end somehow, or our dollar will become recognized as worthless paper.

    • gustafson.robert.22 May 12, 2020 at 11:17 am #

this is one where i blame universities for being corrupt bullshit artists and people being pure dumb just as much as the govt encouragement of process via loans. College has been 100% joke for at least two decades.

    • Cargill May 12, 2020 at 1:33 pm #

Even though the lunacy of the right-wing is a terrible impediment to decent governance, there are simple and effective solutions to huge moral hazard outcomes such as the education racket.

In Australia, students can get loans (which are indeed paid back) however the amount is capped … the policy says a law degree shall mean $25,000 per year, a medical degree $35,000 a year, or whatever.

Universities can charge more than this if they wish to go down that path, but students can only borrow to the cap – they would have to find the balance from elsewhere (such as a rich mummy and daddy).

Same with health insurance … there is a scheduled fee for each procedure, and by definition, public hospitals (the majority) charge exactly that amount, so the patient pays no top-up. If you use private doctors and private hospitals they cost more – you either pay the gap, or take out gap insurance.

Again – it works well enough – it covers the 75% of public patients, but allows flexibility for those who are richer to get upscale service, but not letting them gouge the public purse while they do it.

But I obviously understand that the huge subsidies to the richest in society (ie, those who go to law school and med school) are features of the student loan racket, and the medical racket, and not a bug. Lobbyists control these outcomes.

This is where I can disagree with JohnAZ quite often … it’s not the welfare queens, deadbeat illegals, and whingeing white trash who are the “gimme people” – it is the rich, powerful, and connected who mostly have both hands in the government till.

Has always been thus … the US is built on crony capitalism, from Wall Street to Main Street.

Interesting video. Sure looks like Obamagate has legs. It’s astonishing to observe these monsters ( Democratic Party) trying to blow up the Trump presidency even in the final weeks of the Obama presidency. One can see the chickens are headed home to roost. Obama was all style and no substance. Too glib and vanity on display every time he opened his mouth. The father of virtue signalling.

    • wpa_ccc May 12, 2020 at 1:25 pm #

Obamagate has no legs. Trump is desperately trying to deflect attention from his confused and faltering response to the pandemic, as the US death toll tops 80,000 and the economy suffers the worst job losses since the Great Depression.

      • snagglepuss May 12, 2020 at 1:49 pm #

Respectfully, I don’t see Trump trying to deflect attention from anything as he unfortunately has to spend his time responding to daily attacks from the press who are very selective about which stories they cover or headlines they choose to put forth. They don’t think or act independently, that is obvious. Covid-19 is a worldwide, unprecedented virus. Trump isn’t responsible for any of it. Every country is suffering, and reaction to it has been primarily the responsibility of States, most of which are acting independently.
Almost every country has taken the same measures. I hope Trump gets re-elected in the fall. Pretty sure it will happen because Biden doesn’t stand a chance. The accusation against him is just the beginning. Guys like him always have lots of skeletons in the closet and it will all come out this summer. Orange Man is going to go down as one of the greatest Presidents of all time.

        The OUTRAGE

You must admit however ,,, white people in Murrica have a bit of form on this front right through history, and up to very recently.

I agree that the media can go over-the-top on this stuff, and mayors can say things that stretch … but still … a young black guy gets killed – and it’s only because there’s some video footage that the case has got publicity.

There have been untold lynchings in the past – but no video footage, and of course no justice.

And Trump definitely blows the old race dog-whistle every time he speaks. He doesn’t have to make it up either … he actually thinks like the good ole boys out there with their tatts and beards and confederate flags.

        • Janos Skorenzy May 12, 2020 at 3:33 pm #

Bout a quarter of those lynched were White. Will you admit to now knowing that – or not caring to know?

Are you assuming all those Blacks who got lynched were innocent of raping or murdering? Why? Bet most of them were guilty as charged. It was simply the System back then and there, flawed as it no doubt was. Why did the Occupation Government mock Southern Whites to scorn when they asked for justice from the rampaging Negro steal and rape gangs? That was the genesis of it. The Klan saved the South – simple as that.

We only have one president at a time. Before Trump was inaugurated, he was not president. Trump had no power to appoint a National Security Advisor. Flynn was a civilian. He had no authority to speak with Russian ambassadors. Flynn violated many laws. Flynn pleaded guilty to lying. He can still be prosecuted for his violation of a federal criminal statute, the Logan Act, by acting as if he were NSA when we already had an official NSA whose term was active. There is no such thing as an NSA-elect.

  78. wpa_ccc May 12, 2020 at 2:12 pm #

Trump isn’t responsible for any of it. Every country is suffering

The USA is ranked 131 out of 140 countries in poor response. Almost the worst response to the virus in the world. Trump is responsible for not responding in January, saying everything was fine, everything under control, letting the virus run rampant for eight weeks. Trump is responsible for American deaths and for the economic collapse.

Other countries have federal governments that support local government responses. We have a chief executive who is directly undermining the state and country public health responses. That makes Trump responsible. I will take appropriate, legal, and nonviolent action on Nov. 3.

    • JohnAZ May 12, 2020 at 3:44 pm #

Let’s see. Who did the rating here? WHO?

The same WHO that started the whole pandemic by ignoring the startup in China by appeasing the CCP. The same globalist organization that hates Trump and wants to degrade the USA as much as possible.

      • wpa_ccc May 12, 2020 at 5:42 pm #

The same WHO that offered Trump diagnostic testing kits and he refused them. Which makes Trump responsible for 80,000 American deaths, not WHO.

        • JohnAZ May 12, 2020 at 6:33 pm #

Your ignorance is amazing at times.

Testing would not have changed one single thing about the onslaught. Testing does nothing at all. The reason tests were short on supply was there was no reason for them until the pandemic. Tests do nothing. This virus would have spread no matter how many tests were run until the shut downs happened. And for your information, with the shutdowns AND lots of testing, the bug is still spreading.

WHO is the source of the problem. Their declarations at the onset on the virus protecting China put the rest of the world, not just Trump, at ease when they declared it wasn’t transmittable between people. The politicos in the US went back to their favorite game, Frame the President. If it wasn’t for Trump taking the lead and stopping the Chinese from bringing more virus to the US, and then the same for Europe, we would have many more cases and death than we do. So in reality, Trump has saved many lives by acting when no one else did.

Too bad your Trump hating statement about Trump is so full of crap that no one takes you seriously. Your statement is ludicrous.

Well I guess it isn’t the most profound moral if you will. But. I felt like it was also giving a nod to trusting your instincts and trying to learn from patterns. And also acting without regretting because you don’t know what’s going to happen in the next second really. Even if your instincts are bringing you to a strange place it doesn’t mean that they aren’t valid in other words. But in some ways I also felt like there was an underlying nihilism and darkness to the movie too. Like some of the realities of our world. Like death.

Obamagate Dismissed … Interviewee on Fox News:

“I’m sitting here trying to figure out what exactly constitutional deprivation there was? What is the crime that people think Barack Obama and Joe Biden are going to be prosecuted under?” Moss posited.

“To be clear, and this is using the words of President Trump and his lawyers over the last three years, any sitting president can get any classified information they want. According to Donald Trump they can launch any investigation they want, they can tell the FBI only to pursue particular individuals.

This is not me saying it, this is Donald Trump saying it for three years.”

“This was their argument during the Mueller probe. This was their argument during the impeachment investigation, that the President has this kind of authority,” Moss continued.

“So what did we find out? That Barack Obama was aware about intelligence intercepts on the Russian Ambassador when he was talking with General Flynn? That there had just been an attack on our election a couple months earlier, that we were still dealing with the fallout of Russian election interference in 2016? There was concern about a counterintelligence problem with Michael Flynn and they had a discussion?”

“I’m shocked,” Moss said, sarcastically. “I can’t believe they had that conversation.”

Apparently there’s an economic incentive to report deaths as due to covid-19, where hospitals get money for each case so they’re attributing anyone who died with any covid-like symptom as a covid victim. This would explain the high numbers of American deaths compared to the rest of the world. No one turns everything into a money-making hustle like Americans.

    Watching CNBC.

They just reported that some of the rest-opened states have increased cases By 50%, and others 25%.

Fake news, I looked up the twelve states I have been following and the daily update shows just the opposite, about half the states are on a gradual downward trend, the other half shows a gradual upward trend or steady state. Every one of the states is showing a steady state situation that they are settling towards which does not fit the surge model of the experts in DC. ?? What would cause a steady stream of cases day to day?

The alarmists so far are wrong after a week of opening. No change on any of the 12 states I am watching, if anything a slight downtrend.

Arizona, Colorado, California, Texas, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Florida, Georgia, Washington, Michigan, Maryland.

Flynn will be free shortly and will infuriate the Dems when he is working for Trump again.

The last time Flynn worked for Trump he lasted 24 days before Trump fired him. We’ll see how long he lasts… unless Judge Sullivan rejects the DOJ dropping charges. If Sullivan goes ahead with sentencing, we will see Flynn in prison, where he, as a traitor to the United States, belongs.

Aesop – Impanel a Jury and Find a Stout Oak Tree

And Dumbocrats were ready to ditch Dopey Gropey Joe, and try to nominate this @$$clown??
(NYFC) Gov. Andrew Cuomo [D-Five Families] has finally admitted — tacitly and partially, anyway — the mistake that was state health chief Howard Zucker’s order that nursing homes must admit coronavirus-positive patients.
On Sunday, Cuomo announced a new regulation: Such patients must now test negative for the virus before hospitals can return them to nursing homes. Yet the gov also admitted that COVID-19 cases might still go to the facilities via other routes, and didn’t explicitly overrule Zucker’s March 25 mandate that homes must accept people despite their testing status — indeed, couldn’t even require a test pre-admission.
    Make that murderous @$$clown.

Tiptoeing quietly away from the scene of the crime, especially after revelations that somewhere approaching half of all NYFS COVID deaths were in nursing homes, after you foisted infectious patients into such a vulnerable population, are what legal scholars and beat detectives both call “consciousness of guilt”.

There should be indictments for criminal negligence and depraved indifference there. One jackhole governor probably caused more deaths than two wars in the Middle East, in as many months.

Proving once again that when you put communists in charge, their first instinct is to start pushing citizens into the wood chippers.
    As always.

    Big Winner: Shrillary.
Just like Jimmy Peanut heaved a monstrous sigh of relief after the Obozo administration, when peanut-brain suddenly became only the second worst president in U.S. history, the personal body count of Shrillary and the Clinton Family Crime Syndicate has now, nearly overnight, dropped to being only the second-worst place in the Dumbocrat Party all time score list.

    BTW, a related item:
    8/10. RTWT.
    Why only 8/10?

Read Item 6 in that post. Then look at the story above again.
Nursing home administrators are slightly higher than pond scum, in many cases. But when their hands were tied by the CCCP-NY, it’s much clearer where the problem – and culpability – lies.

    Re: Item 3:
This was an average bad flu season – except in just two months, not a year.
And this problem isn’t over yet; you’re teeing up Round Two, as we speak, and you’re liable to see triple the score of the first two months by the end of the year.
You’ll get the economy rolling, yes, and that’s good.
    But TANSTAAFL.
You wanted to trade a return to a functioning economy, in exchange for the certainty of more Kung Flu deaths. You’ll get your wish, and pay that bill. Darwin always gets his due.
    Soft-soaping that is beyond retarded.

There is going to be a price, in lives, for any action you take. Suck it up, buttercup.
You asked for it, and you’re going to get it. Put on your Big Girl panties and deal with it, but stop pretending it’s going to be consequence-free.

As for the other points: clear outta the park. See for yourself.

Highlight Item 4 in yellow highlighter, then underline it in red ink.

Nobody really knows what the covid numbers will be over the next couple of months, but this is certainly a possibility:

    https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/live-blog/2020-05-12-coronavirus-news-n1204961

Trump chose to gamble on an earlier reopen, a gamble maybe not so risky, keeping in mind the fact that the shutdown could go on maybe what, three-four weeks longer at most? Then what happens?

Yes, money for nuthin’, the covid for free. Remember the 2008-9 unprecedented bailout territory. If that was unprecedented, this is extremely extraordinary on top of it. The economic effects are still unrealized.

In addition to all of this, Trump will have to deal with a SCOTUS decision on his financial records, coming this summer. Even if it goes against him, and he has something to hide, which I’d give 3-1 odds that he does, he’ll have to somehow delay revelation until after the election. That’s another issue. How will the election itself be affected by the covid? Mail ins, voting booths? Covid will also affect any Barr prosecution of the Dems.

Hopefully the voter turnout numbers will be much, much greater than the covid case numbers. I don’t think Trump will get 60M+ again. The offset is lack of turnout for dull, defective Biden.

Biden or Trump. The deadwood duo of despair. But don’t worry. Trump says we’ll be roaring back 4th quarter and in 2021. More growth. More. And more. Even Biden, the buzzard of bore, will bomb us with more and more.

“Just over the horizon a great machine of death is roaring and rearing. One can hear it always. Earthquake, starvation, the ever-
    renewing field of corpse-flesh.”

Biden or Trump. Driving the Machine.

The ‘N95’ designation means that when subjected to careful testing, the respirator blocks at least 95 percent of very small (0.3 micron) test particles. If properly fitted, the filtration capabilities of N95 respirators exceed those of face masks. However, even a properly fitted N95 respirator does not completely eliminate the risk of illness or death.

    FDA.Gov

    1 micron = 1000 nanometers
    1 micron = 1/1000 of a millimeter

Coronavirus is 125 microns in diameter or .125 nanometers

The N95 mask can stop 95% of foreign bodies down to .300 nanometers. In other words, it cannot stop Corvid19. Our Corvid is too small for it. The only protection? Hazmat suits I assume.

Throw away your masks, they are useless except to stop from killing other people if they are too close to you. Why are they so close? Maybe that is.

          • GreenAlba May 13, 2020 at 5:50 am #

Trump is no longer espousing it. Trump saw the results of the trials on US vets where more of the vets who were given it died than those who were given standard treatments.

You’re falling behind again. Trump is ahead of you and is dissociating himself from claims regarding hydroxychloroquine.

And it can be very harmful. It is known to cause serious heart rhythm problems.

It’s OK to espouse something despite Trump’s no-evidence endorsement. Espousing it because of Trump’s no-evidence endorsement is a riskier gamble.

          • GreenAlba May 13, 2020 at 6:02 am #

Given your insult to Majella was based entirely on your misunderstanding of the potential side-effects of hydroxychloroquine, I’d say an apology was in order.

          • Nightowl May 14, 2020 at 5:49 am #

It is entirely safe and still being used to treat COVID:

Interestingly enoug,h a friend of mine who works at NAS in DC, also put it on a list of recommended treatment approaches cribbed from a mass mailing she received from management.

          • GreenAlba May 15, 2020 at 8:49 am #

It is NOT entirely safe. It is relatively safe but has significant potential side effects, especially for people already vulnerable to them (i.e. including those already very sick, but not with malaria).

Serious (though rare) adverse reactions include ophthalmological, cardiomyopathy and QT prolongation, haematological, and neurological and neuromuscular reactions.

The fact remains that it was tested on US vets – Covid patients – in hospital (not the first time they’ve been used as guinea pigs, I’m sure) and a higher proportion of the vets who were given hydroxychloroquine died than of those who were given standard treatments. Hence, Trump has stopped trumpeting it. He likes being associated with success.

          • GreenAlba May 15, 2020 at 8:52 am #

Very few significant medications are entirely safe, so it’s a dumb expression to use in the context. Low IQ, possibly. Hence long lists of contraindications and potential side effects on leaflets, which are not principally there to protect you but to protect the pharma company from litigation.
