With Adam Schiff and Jerrold Nadler cast as Laurel and Hardy, the Democratic Party entered the slapstick phase of its self-destruction, moving from one botched scheme to the next amidst a chaos of falling pianos, splintered two-by-fours, and crashed bi-planes. The old 1930s screen comedies usually also featured a “grande dame” character making herself ridiculous, like Margaret Dumont in Duck Soup, and congressional central casting has fashioned just such a late-career role for Nancy Pelosi, all fluster and spleen, and well-supplied with comic props like the carefully pre-torn State of the Union address she ceremoniously sundered on Tuesday night. Can someone drop an anvil on her, please?

You also had to love the costuming for the great occasion: the congressional Democratic ladies all decked out in white robes, like an angel choir from The Green Pastures, exuding virtue and chastity while they mugged for the cameras — as if they never turned a campaign contribution into a Cadillac Escalade or a vacation in Taormina.  Next year, perhaps, they’ll get rigged with wires and downy wings and fly around the chamber singing “Didn’t Ol’ Pharaoh Get Lost” while the president splutters at the podium.

That spectacle was immediately followed by the Keystone Kops Iowa caucus, which has not really been resolved three days later as I write, though 100 percent of the vote is supposedly counted (cue, laughter). Many of the reporting counties have fewer voters than the average Methodist college student body, and somehow it was hard to tally the numbers for days on end? Party chairman Tom Perez called for a do-over. That’ll sure have a ton of cred. By the time it’s done, the action will have moved on from New Hampshire to Nevada, and Gawd knows what pratfalls await there (in a state founded literally on bilking the credulous).

Considering they are now the official party of chaos, all of this colorful comic disorder may have a purpose behind it: to demonstrate that the United States is now too incompetent to hold an election, and therefore whatever happens on November 3 will have to be disputed. Cue Lawfare, the Dem’s designated sedition generator. They’ll step in and gum up the system with so much litigation that the ghost of Samuel J. Tilden will be heard screaming for mercy somewhere high above the capitol’s grand dome.

Unless, of course, the party manages to complete its drawn-out suicide at the Milwaukee convention. The Iowa fiasco was universally seen as an effort to trip-up Bernie Sanders, the elderly Leninist who, ironically, seeks to turn the entire federal bureaucracy into a colossal version of the very Iowa caucus that was engineered to thwart him. It’s looking at this point like nobody will go into the convention with a chance to clinch the nomination and a dire battle will ensue. Bernie has not forgotten the dirty that was done to him last time by Mrs. Clinton’s corps of flying monkey super-delegates. Some of the young Bernie Broz in charge of this-and-that on the campaign have been recorded threatening violence and mayhem in the event of such a dirty replay. At best, the party may split up into two or more rump parties, a la the 1860 contest, and that will be the end of them.

Meanwhile, in case you have forgotten, scores of public officials from the Obama administration stand to be indicted as we enter the heart of the spring primary season. On top of three failed seditious attempts to overthrow Mr. Trump since 2016, a cavalcade of perp walks for all that may finally force the recognition among the battered true believers in the Holy Church of Maddow that a genuine coup d’état has been running for three solid years, whether or not you like Donald Trump. They came close to turning the USA into a banana republic.

The news media is saying that President Trump had “his best week ever.” My sense of him hasn’t changed: he remains the Golden Golem of Greatness, a kind of mystical and mystifying comic figure himself, but not of the 1930s slapstick sort, more like a character drawn from the neo-gothic Joker phase of American history — and, hey, he really did spring full-blown on the scene from our real-life Gotham City. I was impressed, during his Thursday post-acquittal White House gala, at the stunning incoherence of his remarks, his facility for leaving absolutely every thought hanging unfinished in mid-sentence as he turned to the next uncompleted thought. I can’t say for sure that this makes him an ineffective manager of the nation’s affairs, but it does leave you kind of wondering. The fact remains, though, that his antagonists have behaved much worse, and now they are going to be punished.

Yep, don’t even know where to begin with this week’s sh!tshow. The Fourth Turning appears to be manifesting in earnest, at least Strauss & Howe’s analysis of the populace’s state-of-mind. Every week seems to stun me with the increased untethered nuttiness which encapsulates what passes for political and social decorum in these uncertain times.

    • edpell February 7, 2020 at 10:29 am #

Yes, “untethered nuttiness”. US society has gone insane. Is this 1860 or 1930? Or will the decline of fossil fuels make this time different and not in a good way.

      • JohnAZ February 7, 2020 at 10:35 am #

Your last sentence’s impact is so enormous that no one in politics will even talk about it. The full impact of Peak oil could kill half or more of the world’s population.

Could it be that the AGW politics is aimed at preparing the public for the inevitable?

    • zone45 February 8, 2020 at 11:17 pm #

So here we are. How will it be resolved?
Jim sums up the grand drama in a few words:
every thought hanging unfinished in mid-sentence
And we wait for the next shoe to drop.

“Considering they are now the official party of chaos, all of this colorful comic disorder may have a purpose behind it: to demonstrate that the United States is now too incompetent to hold an election, and therefore whatever happens on November 3 will have to be disputed.”

totally correct there, Jim! It may be comical & colorful right now.. but for how long? sooner or later, too much of this bullshit gets to be a real problem. The checks from the Treasury are still being mailed, money is still being printed… food stamps are still stamping..

but if these things were to stop… then things aren’t so funny anymore..

..and I’ve said this on the board in the past before.. watch the food situation in the US..
cuz if you look at history, revolutions really go bigly when people start to get hungry. And not ‘hungry’ like they can’t get their Big Mac.. hungry like they’ve been eating potatoes & onions all week, and they’re on their last onion, hungry..

    • Daddyotis February 7, 2020 at 10:23 am #

Agreed. All it will take for the sheeple to stop obsessing on identity politics, racism-under-every-rock, and abortion/openborders/buttbuggary-to-the-moon is when they have to occupy their time ingesting 1600 calories a day.

THEN all this bull$hit will stop quickly.

          bring on chaos?

          • Farmer McGregor February 7, 2020 at 11:00 am #

“bring on chaos?” is a good question.
Personally, I’m not looking forward to being ‘last onion hungry’.

Though I’m positioned better than most on my little farm (mini-farm, micro-farm — since I have livestock I think of it as a ranch: a “nano-ranch”) I am nonetheless vulnerable to the effects of empty grocery stores and the resulting zombie hordes.

Another great post, Mr. K. I’m glad you do the painful work of actually listening to the drivel coming out of the beltway then expounding the important points to us. I have a very difficult time listening to the BS while it’s being spoken.

          • malthuss February 7, 2020 at 11:13 am #

I would get emails from someone who gardened, on the coast below Vancouver [hong kover now]. He was below the Canadian border. It was Blaine Washington.

He would see wandering druggies in his rural area.

He said its an area of fish, rabbits, birds…abundant food.

          • Farmer McGregor February 7, 2020 at 11:26 am #

Ah, but catching and prepping food from nature requires work, focus, discipline, know-how, equipment, etc…

          • TiredOfTheTreadmill February 7, 2020 at 11:39 am #

You mean we’re not in chaos already and it can get worse than this? /sarc

          • BackRowHeckler February 7, 2020 at 6:49 pm #

Right now the grocery stores are full, 20 aisles stacked with every delicacy known to man.

That’s the current situation. I don’t know what the future holds,

      • Janos Skorenzy February 7, 2020 at 1:16 pm #

As if Race won’t be the organizing factor in the factions that form and war against each other. As if Open Borders doesn’t mean smaller portions and is helping to bring on societal collapse. Guy get a brain.

    • Beryl of Oyl February 7, 2020 at 11:38 am #

You mention food, Pete. It is kind of ironic that Bernie Sanders, Socialist, could not even manage to bring back agriculture to levels Vermont already managed to have in the past.
      One tiny state.
Isn’t that the one thing Communists are supposed to be able to run?

What makes people with records of failure think they are qualified to take that failure to a national level? This is not unique to Bernie.

      • malthuss February 7, 2020 at 2:49 pm #

Isn’t that the one thing Communists are supposed to be able to run?

you are sooooooooo funeeeeee..in USSR, much of the food was from the tiny plots of the babushkas.

        • JohnAZ February 7, 2020 at 2:57 pm #

You are right. The wheat fields of the Ukraine under USSR that were communal were failures. The little farms you mentioned were brought in to keep people from starving. They out produced the communes.

          • messianicdruid February 7, 2020 at 9:00 pm #

Did you hear about their new hybrid wheat?

They plant it the Ukraine and it comes up in Kansas.

      • Majella February 10, 2020 at 3:46 am #

More false equivalency bullshit from the resident oily barrel…

This is answered in devastating detail below, but I really need to call this crap out.

Bernie is a Senator, after one term as. Congressman, after several terms as a mayor. Where does his responsibility for State Agricultural Policy intersect with any of these elected positions (note – elected, where a MAJORITY of voters has chosen him) ?

Slapping the Soviet Hammer & Sickle in Bernie is just such utter bullshit. There are some services that are best run by government in order to eliminate the unnecessary profiteering that so pervades the US economy. The most glaring example of grift, tort, sham and theft is healthcare delivery.

Elect Bernie and, if he can pull it off against the huge forces that will be working against him , you’ll actually see the USA REDUCE the underlying cost of healthcare by $300 billion immediately – the cabal’s current profit – and over time halve the cost to the economy from 18% ($3.5 trillion p.a) to the more common 9%.

        • Ussi February 10, 2020 at 9:14 am #

Indeed Majella, the baseless dog whistle smearing of Sanders by Kunstler as some kind of red threat is pitiful.

You know late stage capitalism’s brainfuckery is complete when McCarthyism is pulled on a slightly left of center analog of FDR.

    • Kim February 7, 2020 at 7:16 pm #

Hungry people don’t revolt. Revolutions only occur when they are planned and funded by higher ups.

There are no exceptions to this.

  5. James Kuehl February 7, 2020 at 10:16 am #

Glad to read a critical analysis of this shit-show that isn’t just a tirade against one faction or the other. The Dems are truly in a comical state of disarray and the Repubs are a clan of opportunists who would kiss the devil’s ass to stay in power. I suspect we have become ungovernable and will dissolve into something yet unimagined.

oh, its been imagined.. and its happened elsewhere..

the history of the decline & fall of large, complicated, multi-ethnic empires/nations are not good!!

      • James Kuehl February 7, 2020 at 11:17 am #

I don’t think there is any precedent for our situation with the sheer size and fragility of our living arrangements. Add to that our level of gun ownership and pervasive ignorance of culture and history and one is hard-pressed to predict how this unfolds.

      • shotho February 7, 2020 at 11:23 am #

For me, our host’s remarks of Trump’s incoherence is a very perceptive observation. His mind is obviously disordered, He repeats himself in a mindless pattern that usually makes little sense. But, that might be the very trait that commends him to so many people, because most Americans seem to express that very random and incoherent cognitive process. We, as a people, talk very fast and can’t seem to finish a thought; not to mention the nonsensical grammatical structures that most people express. As an old fart, it’s hard for me to even listen to the sputtering mindlessness; strikes me as a sure sign of social destruction.

        • Beryl of Oyl February 7, 2020 at 11:46 am #

          He makes sense to me.
It takes time to understand him, but when you get it, you get it.

          • JohnAZ February 7, 2020 at 3:03 pm #

Me too. I will take a scrapper that will fight back against the Democratic socialists with everything he is.

The tens of thousands of rally goers do not seem to think he is so bad. They love him enough to stand in lines for hours to see him.

          • Majella February 7, 2020 at 7:39 pm #

            JohnAZ, Beryl

I’d wager you don’t ‘understand’ or ‘get’ him – there’s nothing ‘there’ to get.

Perhaps what you’re doing, unconsciously, is overlaying your own thoughts & beliefs in what is essentially a blank canvas. Having then ‘got’ your views through this faux interpretation, it has a modicum if validity for you because you can attribute it to Himself.

        • BackRowHeckler February 7, 2020 at 12:22 pm #

Well, we had 8 years of a tenured Marxist bullshitter that talked a blue streak. Where did that get us?

          • JohnAZ February 7, 2020 at 3:07 pm #

When the Dems put corporate tax rates up to 35%, the corporations started drifting off the other countries offering much lower rates. It definitely hindered the recovery, with the economy slowing in 2015 and 2016, 2016 being 1.7% increase in GDP. Contrary to Dem claims, Obama was not responsible for the explosion of US economic activity, Trump has been. Why? 21% corporate tax rate.

          • Majella February 10, 2020 at 3:49 am #

Obama was no Marxist. He was a pure bred JACT – Just Another Corporate Tool.

        • James Kuehl February 7, 2020 at 12:37 pm #

I agree, shotho. Language is an indicator of cognitive health. America is very ill. Writing is thinking on paper and talking is thinking out loud. Our inability to form a cogent narrative as individuals much less as a nation bodes ill for our future.

          • Nightowl February 7, 2020 at 2:33 pm #

I disagree. Writing well and speaking well are two different skill sets.

I am a professional editor myself, and I know many other competent editors who can barely get a sentence out at times, but who can work magic on text.

I’m in the consulting world now, but in my newspaper days, it was similar. Many of the reporters had great people skills and were well spoken, but you’d have laughed if you had seen some of the drafts they submitted.

        • Janos Skorenzy February 7, 2020 at 1:20 pm #

You mean people could think back in Civil War times? When even real thinkers like Emerson descended into calling Southerners beasts in human form?

Most people have never been able to think. Accepting that is the first step towards recovery. A repudiation of Democracy and Egalitarianism in other words. If the truly intelligent can’t manage that, how are they going to manage even harder issues? Like resources. Like race.

    • edpell February 7, 2020 at 10:43 am #

Both parities will do any evil to get more power and money. As to ungovernable, there is always the iron fist. There will be government of one kind or the other. Pay the tax or die, just as it always is.

      • Majella February 7, 2020 at 7:43 pm #

You’re absolutely right. Your own opinions are a perfect example of not being altered by facts.

  6. Ishabaka February 7, 2020 at 10:21 am #

It’s important to understand that facts do not change opinions.
The same folks who believe Trump colluded with Putin to deny She Whose Turn it Was her Turn prior to the Mueller report still believe it.
The same folks who believe Trump committed a laundry list of crimes resulting in his impeachment prior to the Democrats not including a single crime in their Articles of Impeachment, still believe it.

  7. zekesdad February 7, 2020 at 10:22 am #

Great post, Jim; I found it interesting that Romney found Trump guilty of the non-crime catch-all, “abuse of power”. It’s not for nothing that he worked at Bain Capital. He’s looking a couple of moves ahead on the political chessboard and is setting himself up as the anti-Trump for 2024. He’ll endlessly brag about how he can build bridges and cross the aisle, and even ran the Olympics in Salt Lake City!

    • Daddyotis February 7, 2020 at 10:26 am #

      Uh huh….

Good luck with that, Mitt. You proved yourself to be a milquetoast weak sister with a loose prison wallet going against Obama in 2012. Don’t see that changing.

      • Beryl of Oyl February 7, 2020 at 11:48 am #

“Go to the transcript…” and she HAD IT! Mitt didn’t even call a foul on that obvious setup.

    • JohnAZ February 7, 2020 at 10:46 am #

Good possibility that the RINOs will all be Moderate Dems by 2024. Romney will not be welcome in any Trump GOP get together again. He and what is left of the establishment GOP no longer have a home in DC. The two RINO “opponents” of Trump got 1% of the caucus in Iowa between them. Maybe Romney, the current hero of the MSM, will be running against Pence or even Haley in 2024.

BTW, why the heck don’t the GOP money people start buying up some of the MSM corporations to even the scales instead of just bitching about it. The uneven media has just about destroyed the integrity of the US.

      • Beryl of Oyl February 7, 2020 at 11:52 am #

The Republicans care about four things, and the media isn’t one of them.
Ann Coulter has helpfully designated the things that matter to the party: abortion, the embassy in Jerusalem, tax cuts, and now I’m forgetting the other one, because what does it matter?

Well, they did worse than 2 utterly INVISIBLE Democrat billionaires in Iowa – Steyer supposedly got 7% & change! Haha a…the fix on Bernie is in.

  8. SW February 7, 2020 at 10:22 am #

Unless the DNC asked the people to show up again I don’t see how they could have a recount. Why didn’t they just write it down — was there a paper shortage in Iowa? Now some idiot congresswoman from Texas is saying the Russians were responsible. There sure must be a lot of Russians with time on their hands to take the trouble to gum up the Iowa caucus.

Biden has no one but his fellow Democrats to blame for his demise. Plenty of people who never heard of his son now know all about him and his father’s “help” in the Ukraine. The supposed winner of this mess is Mayor Pete or Bernie. There’s very little information out there about Pete when you get down to it — what do we really know about him other than he’s a happily married gay man and you can keep your insurance if you like it? I think he’s a Trojan horse with a lot more corporate backing than we know about. He could easily land in the Vice Presidential spot.

    • JohnAZ February 7, 2020 at 10:51 am #

If you would ask any Dem voter in Iowa why the voted for whom they did, most would not have a cognizant answer. I agree that it could be that the stupidification of the US is complete enough that the government can no longer be managed by the vote.

Which is exactly the goal of the uniparty Deep State.

      • Beryl of Oyl February 7, 2020 at 11:58 am #

Iowans have been somewhat ravaged by meth. I imagine they are also getting hit hard by the heroin epidemic.
Both problems relate to a large degree to our wide open southern border. Both parties are against doing anything about that wide open border.
To the people who say interdiction is futile and doesn’t work, of course it doesn’t, because it can’t. You’d need some kind of barrier to even have a chance. Nobody wants a wall. Walls are immoral. Nancy Pelosi, noted Catholic, says so.

        • Majella February 10, 2020 at 3:56 am #

My uneducated guess is that the tweezers & junkies didn’t show up at the caucuses. You really do throw illogical mud around, Beryl.

      • Janos Skorenzy February 7, 2020 at 1:27 pm #

The intelligent are the ultimate minority group, John. A commitment to Democracy is a commitment to stupidity. Why do you think the Founders hated it so much?

Know how dumb the average White person, IQ 100, really is? By definition, half of them are even dumber. Hispanics and Blacks, way dumber still.

An even smaller group, yes. An Elite – the one that should be ruling!

Dumb and ethical? Don’t work that way. IQ and Morality are proportional. You need the former to have the latter – but the x factor is there. The latter does not inevitably follow from the former; IQ being necessary but not sufficient for morality. See the work of Kohlberg, et al.

          • Kim February 7, 2020 at 7:35 pm #

You are quite the optimist, Janos. Why should an elite care more for society than anyone else?

First, I would guess that sociopathy is evenly distributed throughout the IQ range. Being smart is far from being a guarantee that someone is good.

Second, there is simply no evidence for that notion.

Haven’t leaders been selfish, greedy, and uncaring throughout history? I can’t think of any exceptions in countries of any color.

While the Ottoman armies were battening on the walls of Eastern Europe, Francis I of France was trying to go into partnership with him to open up a route for his armies through Italy and even turned over Toulon into a base for Barbay corsairs.

            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottoman_wintering_in_Toulon

Not that Francis I was much worse than any other “leader” in history. Pick a decade, any decade, and I will show you that we are always ruled by wild beasts. One of the worst of human characteristics is a belief in “leaders” in any group larger than a tribe.

          • akmofo February 7, 2020 at 9:05 pm #

Smart is being ethical, because it’s the only way we can exist. Criminality is stupid conniving, and always leads to destruction.

          • Kim February 8, 2020 at 1:22 am #

“Smart is being ethical, because it’s the only way we can exist. Criminality is stupid conniving, and always leads to destruction.”

Huh? All evidence to the contrary. Nothing can be plainer than the opposite – that in fact we are ruled by smart people who are entirely without ethics.

Haven’t we always been ruled by such people?

Who but a sociopath or narcissist wants power over others? They control all the levers precisely because ethical people don’t want to spend their lives playing with society like their personal train set.

          • Janos Skorenzy February 8, 2020 at 1:25 pm #

Kim: Again, the work of Laurence Kohlberg. There IS a relationship between the cognitive and the moral. Show a young child a block, red on one side and blue on the other. Put it between you two, with the red on his side. Now ask him what color you are seeing. He will respond, “red”. He can’t take your point of view yet, his brain isn’t there yet. Many people never get beyond this kind of thing emotionally (even though they could pass the block test), at the level of politics and behavior, preferring what benefits them so much that they can’t see any other pov.

As the mind expands, it can see many points of view simultaneously. They can’t hide from themselves nearly as easily as the dummies. As to whether they will choose “the Good” for the maximum number, well that’s the x factor. They know it however. Thus Trump was able to speak so movingly to Traditional Americans: he knows the Truth but it’s just a weapon to him.

          • akmofo February 8, 2020 at 3:19 pm #

            Kim,

I always advocate that people rule themselves.

The problem with you people is that you don’t know who you are. You lost your identity. You lost your family, you lost your tribe, you lost your nation, you lost your land, you lost your very selves.

You signed up for empire to be with the strong and rapacious and now you’re being devoured by them. You have no one to blame but yourself.

At some point, the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US armed forces, who’ve been graced with the largest war budgets since the defeat of Nazi Germany (so we are talking on going for what.. 80 years???) will have to consider strongly if this whole thing really starts to slide downhill how apolitical they can afford to be.

I think the Deep State/permanent bureaucracy will do everything & anything to maintain its survival. Why wouldn’t it?

I think the Military/industrial complex would much rather get the US into a really big shooting war as a last ditch effort to keep the nation together, then face possible collapse. Maybe that’s what this whole anti-Russia bullshit is about. Get the US into a very serious war, very bloody war to desperately keep control. I don’t know. I wouldn’t be shocked if it were.

    • ellipsis February 7, 2020 at 10:47 am #

The very bigly nuclear shooting war appears to be a fait accompli, no matter who’s in charge. Given current economic and social circumstances, it may in fact be the best thing for all involved. And after hearing this same sentiment echoed recently on multiple comment boards throughout the internet, I think it’s time to consider in earnest that all this nominally “democrat” foolishness might have been nothing more than kabuki theater aimed squarely at us, the plebes, in order to totally discredit them for 2020 and make sure that Herr Trump is reinstalled as the National Fool in Chief, the better to guarantee that current globalist “arrangements” are carried out without a hitch. I think the global bottleneck we’ve all been waiting for all these past many years is now much closer than most would dare to contemplate. But just remember, when the nukes start flying, avoid the urge to cower underground meekly and instead walk bravely into the blinding light of destiny.

      Wag the Dog!

China wants to dominate the world. The are no longer Communist but more national socialist. The top dogs run the strategies, and the more capitalist corporations run the tactical end. While we sit here in the US on our thumbs, the Chinese government have one goal, to catch up and surpass the US. The have the folks to do it with.

Will we rise to the Deep State bait and go to war against China? I doubt it. Another ten years and they will pound the he’ll out of us. What would we gain by going to war anyway? War is MAD, and obsolete because there are no winners anymore.

China will try to overcome us with consumer demand, our no.1 ace in the hole. When they control the consumer marketplace, they will dictate terms to us economically.

Who is missing in this conversation? Russia! While the US and China are debating the economy, what do Russia, and Europe and Iran and Saudi Arabia have up their sleeves.

Hey, maybe with all the new golf associations forming up in the world, the UN is going to turn into a huge PGA with Trump as its president. He sure is practicing a lot for the job.

Russia and China are evil empires that hold multiples of nations imprisoned within their empires. India is also an empire, but more in the model of the UK, US, EU, Canada. Still, even such empires should be dissolved. They are accountable, corrupt, and always ultimately unworkable.

          There’s nothing NATIONAL about empires.

We need to move away from such thinking and such political organizations, and indeed that is the new political trend around the world.

Btw, Nachash, I’m still waiting for you to define the borders of your white nation. Of-course you never will define them borders, because it’s all just a nazi propaganda lie and excuse for German imperial conquest.

          • Janos Skorenzy February 8, 2020 at 1:49 am #

There are many White Nations. The borders of the new White Nation on the North American continent will be determined by War I assume, among other factors. Negotiation too I assume, after a trial of strength. Hopefully we can pick up a generous swath of Canada.

I notice you don’t deny the purport of the symbolism of your flag – the two blue stripes standing for the two rivers. The 12 Tribes of Ishmael will have something to say about that however. As will the Mahdi.

            Janos,

If all I did is just respond to your endless lies, I’d never leave this place. As to your rivers, even mentally challenged chimps can see and understand that them rivers flow vertically north-south and visa versa. The stripes on the Israeli flag are horizontal, and whole design is that of the ancient Hebrew prayer shawl including the color Tkhelet, dyed from the murex mollusc and from which the Hebrew speaking “Phoenicians” derived their Greek name. “Phoenicia” literally translates as the “land of the purple” (i.e., source of blue-purple dye).

Several $10 billion aircraft carriers recently commissioned, and more in the pipeline. I’m wondering how effective those carriers are now that China and Russia have deployed hypersonic long range missiles. Maybe that 10 bill could be better spent elsewhere. How much longer can we afford those behemoths? The navy may run into a situation with aircraft carriers like it did 1898-1942 with battleships, craft so expensive and vulnerable that it kept them out of harm’s way for fear of losing one. I’m not the only one asking that question, either.

We need floating brothels to service our service men and to keep our female soldiers out of harms way. And of course those good girls who just get pregnant accidently may need a nursery.

As aircraft carriers, they can land planes and take the girls home in serious cases.

Just like he insists female testimony shouldn’t be given credence – except when it suits him.

      • JohnAZ February 7, 2020 at 3:30 pm #

The strategy of a carrier, I believe, is to get its weapons off the decks before it is hit by a missile. The ship is expendable, the weapons are not. Between the weapons on the floating airfield, and the aegis frigates and the tomahawk weaponry, that is what puts fear in the hearts of the US enemies.

If defense of the carriers was paramount, battleships would still exist. There is more defense capability on a battleship than any other type.

The lesson to be learned is that when one party gains control of the government for too long, the government gets loaded up with that parties lackeys. The Bushes were Dem dupes. Since Reagan the presidents have all been patsies to the Deep State which is Leftist.

If Trump gets another four years, he will be able to even out the bureaucracy again. The biggest lesson is that strong folks from each political philosophy must be rotated into power periodically to undo the damage that the opposition does as both sides have huge benefits and flaws. Balance is the key.

Just got through with “The Age of Entitlement” by Christopher Caldwell. He offers no solutions to what’s happened since the 1964 Civil Rights Act, courtesy of LBJ. All he offers is a wrap-up of how it’s developed since then.

The ancient Romans living under Augustus who thought they were still under the Republic were operating under the same delusion as the average White middle-class American is under today.

(Not saying Trump is Augustus, only that things changed fundamentally in 1964. A revolution occurred then, according to Caldwell, but the White majority never noticed.)

Nation? Where? Nation means extended family – as in Clan, Tribe, Coalition of Tribes and then Nation.

The United States is not a nation and hasn’t been for a long time. The founding population is now increasingly demonized. The word you’re looking for is “country”.

It can be argued that the Act was not a positive influence on the nation or the culture. Good effects, bad effects, possibly a net negative.

Know what else is being covered up, by the dragging out of this impeachment theater? Harvey Weinstein’s trial.
I notice a lot of celebrities are using up their outrage on the acquittal of President Trump on charges of Being Donald Trump. Will they have any of that outrage left if Harvey is not convicted of anything?

Rob Reiner is still foaming-at-the-mouth enraged over Russian collusion. he knows all about that, but he didn’t know a thing about what Harvey was up to.

From my lowly point of view, the decline started with the post WW2 hubris and victory disease. In the early ‘60’s , when I was a boy, this was a more hopeful can do country. Anything seemed possible. So people like LBJ and Ted Kennedy decided that inside every person in the world was an American waiting to pop out. They opened the doors to the whole world without careful consideration of how the culture would be effected.
For two and half decades, change was gradual, you know , the old story of the frog being so slowly boiled that he did not notice until it was too late. Then in the mid 90’s , we started to here the ludicrous propaganda slogans “diversity is our strength” and ‘all cultures are equal.” Well, we have got diversity now. So much so, as JHK says, it feels like 1860. Our culture is a shambles. As our host puts it, anything goes and nothing matters. That’s why we have the GGG and his even more idiotic adversaries.

No, it was no mistake. They were serving their class and the usurpers. Towards the end of his life, dying with cancer, Ted was drinking and singing on his boat with friends as he liked to do. He said he was glad he was getting out before things got really bad in America. He knew what his open borders would lead to.

You are perfectly right about Trump. He is a mental midget. For what it matters, I find his personality, his grift, his vulgar and ostentatious tastes and life repulsive.

And yet! What he managed to do is nothing short of astounding. The landscape is littered with the corpses of his enemies. He entered the republican candidate field as a farcical side act, then, as the laughter died and things got serious, facing the opposition of his party’s establishment and Never-Trumpers, experienced and well-funded opponents and somehow he managed to squish them all. Then he faced Hillary, and the entire country’s media predicting apocalypse, the Fourth Reich, economic annihilation 24/7… and yet again he somehow prevailed. He had barely stepped into office that he had to face the revolt of, let’s call it The Swamp. Three years of Russiagate and Ukraine impeachment shenanigans and he is still standing, while the Democratic Party is convulsing, and the mainstream media credibility ripped to tatters. What were the odds? They will be writing tragedies about him for decades to come.

Frankly I still don’t grok it all. It cannot all be due to an unexplainable string of cosmic good luck, can it? Surely he must have some qualities… If only him sensing fractures in american society, riding on them, and adroitly maneuvering the palace factions and coups, So, maybe secretly, he is actually playing 4-D chess? And then, I hear him speak, abruptly shattering all those speculative reveries and back to thinking, how on Earth could this man become president of the United States of America, and above all HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT HE IS BETTER THAN THE ALTERNATIVE?

        @Kellyfrombayfield

‘I somehow find myself rooting for him.’

Just to make it clear, so do I.

Obama was his polar opposite. Gifted orator, smooth, admirable personal life, adored by the media. Yet for all his personal qualities he was the most conformist politician imaginable. He had the political capital to shake things up about the many problems american society faces, health care, higher education, finance, manufacturing, foreign policy. He did nothing about any of them, No restoring order on wall street, more job-killing trade deals, a lot of nonsense about ‘disparate impact’ policies, Libya, Syria…

        • volodya February 7, 2020 at 1:08 pm #

His administration threw uncountable billions at Wall Street, let millions of ordinary people fall into wrack and ruin, anointed Mary Jo White as SEC head regulating those same Wall Street banks she earned her living from previously. And he turned Libya into an ulcer bleeding refugees into the Mediterranean.

I was saying that you can be a model citizen and husband and father and smooth and articulate politician, who cares if you are not tackling the issues in your society.

I am not impressed with Trump the man. I do think he has identified social problems in the US. But he has not made much progress so far in adressing them.

        • Nightowl February 7, 2020 at 2:40 pm #

Obama used a teleprompter in nearly every public appearance. There are a few classic clips where the device clearly malfunctioned and he was reduced to a stuttering wreck.

The “If, if, if … okie doke” clip is a classic and shows just how awkward he was. He was also not under a microscope by the corporate press.

Trump speaks without a teleprompter, and has done so repeatedly for hours. I don’t know how he does it, to be honest.

As has been said, people don’t want freedom, they just want a fair master. Trump-love is an example of that.

How many times have you heard people admit that they know he is lying about this or that, or doing entirely the opposite of what he campaigned on – and we could all name a dozen examples – yet they smile quite happily about it.

Because he is their good master, you see. And they love him. Like the natural peasants they are.

Two species who occupy the same ecological niche cannot occupy the same space. Thus chipmunks and squirrels don’t live near each other. Or closer to our point: the ruthless Grey Squirrel is genociding native English Red Squirrel by driving him out of one area after another.

Why blame me? I am not the author of life. Or are you saying human being are exempt from the above – even after denying any supernatural cause that could make it so? The Fact remains: Whites are being driven out of their own neighborhoods and lands by ruthless foreign invaders – brought in by traitorous globalist governments.

The only answer to our plight is similar to what has saved the Red Squirrel in some areas: a reintroduction of a kind of native weasel (I’m forgetting the exact name of the breed). The shy English squirrel is more cautious on the ground is able to escape them. The bold Greys not so much. In other words, a return to the Natural. Free our hands, and we’ll deal with the Swarthies as we have so many times before. But under this Babylon system, any show of Manhood by the Natives is crushed – much to the pleasure of biddies such as yourself.

I haven’t the slightest idea what all that word salad has to do with my question, which was merely to inquire why you look down your nose at peasants, given how attached they are to the land, to which you also seem attached.

You can’t be a “skin deep nationalist” if you’re a Zionist. It’s a blatant contradiction in terms. Zionism is the oldest surviving nationalism there is. Chimping commie propaganda only produces cognitive dissonance to the point of complete idiocy.

You would name your donkey Pegasus.

          • akmofo February 9, 2020 at 2:20 pm #

Pegasus is a mythical winged divine horse, and one of the most recognized creatures in Greek mythology. Usually depicted as pure white, Pegasus is the offspring of the Olympian god Poseidon. He was foaled by the Gorgon Medusa upon her death, when the hero Perseus decapitated her.

To me, the modern Medusa is the Vatican. Decapitating the Vatican means simply shinning light on its dark testicles. These dark testicles are the gov mafia and the institutions we are constantly suffocated by. As to your messianicdruid donkey, that is Romanism itself. To transform that donkey to Pegasus, Christianity and Christians will need to transform into Judaism. We are starting to see this with Evangelical Zionism, and that’s a good first step.

But Evangelical Zionists need to learn and understand that there is no one but GOD. Not the “son”, not the “Virgin”, not the “Ghost”, not the Roman Cross, not Caesar, or any other bullshit. There is no new covenant. Never was, and never will be. Same applies to Islam. You either follow the way of YeHeVeH as the TaNaKh describes, or you die of corruption spiritually culturally economically militarily politically physically, and disappear into the dustbin of history.

I hear more and more that Trump will surely win in 2020. OK, compared to predictions that 2016 was a cosmic fluke, that a Trump presidency will ravage the US and surely the country will return to sanity in 2020 by a landslide, it is incredible that he has a shot of winning again. But it still looks like a very dicy proposition to me. In 2016 Trump managed to win the presidency by the tiniest of margins, and as Democrats never fail to remind us, in spite of losing the popular vote. A few things to consider:

    Con-Trump:
    – opinion polls have always shown him being unfavorably viewed
    – in 2016 he was the anti-establishment candidate. Trump has now had 4 years to run things, and a record to defend on his promises about illegal immigration, building the wall, rapatriating manufacturing jobs from China and Mexico. How much did he deliver? Not much. Will he lose vote, is the novely wearing thin?
    – Trump made himself the man of the economy in general and the stock market in particular. If anything goes wrong before November (and it very well could) he is pretty much toast.
    – the secular demographic trends do not favor the republicans. Non-whites, big cities grow. Rural, white americans shrink.

    Pro-Trump:
    – the republican party has closed ranks and the never Trumpers have more or less vanished. The economy is actually rather strong. The apocalypse of financial ruin and neverending kristallnachts predicted keep not happening.
    – the opposition is extremely vulnerable. All leading democrat contenders have a lot of issues, and I can see Trump gleefully rippng through any of them in a campaign. There is a real chance that the dem leadership campaign will leave losing factions bitter.

    • RIB February 7, 2020 at 1:08 pm #

Okay, Nostradamus. 1) Opinion polls have shown him to be unfavorably viewed. Are these the same polls that prediction the Crazy Crone to win by a landslide in 2016 ? 2) Is the novelty wearing thin? It’s kind of hard to accomplish anything when you spend 50% of your time defending yourself from collusion and quid-pro-quo slurs. 3) …..(and it very well could)? Let me guess…it’s a “feeling” you have that the economy can go sour, right ? My suggestion : Hookup with Daphne and Velma….a good threesome will clear your head

      • scoubidou123 February 8, 2020 at 9:48 pm #

First, you can leave Nostradamus out of it. I certainly never claimed to know how things will turn out in November. I did the opposite, listing a number of reasons things might swing one way or the other.

        As to your points:
        1) yes, polls can be wrong, but even then, polls were actually rather close. People just dismissed the possibility that that clown Trump might close the small gap as inconceivable.
        2) that is your charitable take on things. My point is not that Trump had free reins to do what he wanted. It is that there are people – yeah, I read one just now – who now say: “in 2016 I thought I was voting for someone who would actually do something about immigration when, rhetoric aside, in actuality he did nothing, things are worse than ever, he is a lying swindler like all others, never gonna fool me again”. And Trump cannot afford to lose any vote he got in 2016
        3) hey, you’re on clusterfuck nation, where our gracious host has been writing for years that our financial system is a Ponzi scheme that could collapse any minute. So yeah, a couple of people here may think there is a chance of that happening soonish.

      One comment.

The opinion polls have always shown him to be unfavorably viewed.

The MSM was bought up by the Progressive people over the last number of years. The people’s source of information is the same media. The media controls the minds of much of the country. The surging of the stupidification of the American public aggravates the situation.

Most of the polls are run by the same media, and admittedly Liberal slanted.

      • Majella February 9, 2020 at 4:54 pm #

The 2016 national polls on the general vote were accurate enough. he lost the popular vote by 3 million-odd.

In the end, the EC went his way, due to the smart strategy concocted by Bannon & Manafort (with or without Facebook ads targetted at the ‘Persuadables’. But I wouldn’t credit that strategic thinking to Himself, at all.

He’s a blank canvas and people can project onto him whatever they like. I see the mope, the conman, the grifter, the dickhead and the compulsive liar. Others hereabouts see their Saviour, a Masterful Strategist, and Someone Appointed by God.

Politics and economics are two entities that have merged into a deadly virus infecting the human psyche. Our infected minds are lost in the theatre of good and evil as reality sucks us further down the dark path of extinction.

Yes, Commies are sad, comical, and deadly.

There are very credible stories that the Chinese “panda-soup” virus is not a natural virus and that it is a weaponized virus from a local bio-weapons lab in Wuhan, China. To my eyes, the Communist Party manufactured this bio-weapon catastrophe as a political cover for the predicted economic downturn as the huge debt bubbles in all sectors of the Chinese economy start to burst.

The Democrats nominated one walking, talking virtue-signal in the person of Barry O. They might do it again with Buttigieg, gay, married to a guy. Trouble is he’s White and not big with Blacks, or so I hear. But how’s he doing with Hispanics?

I doubt his being gay cuts much ice with either Blacks or Hispanics given the material problems they’re facing like decent paying work, affordable accommodation and health care. But this is an opportunity for Trump, he can score here the way he did in 2016.

A meteoric mayor flashing across the sky. Gay vet, slick and articulate. Out of Harvard and Oxford. Cultivates Balack’s mannerisms. But I don’t believe blacks or Hispanics would go for a twink. A real smoothie.

How would you feel about a bill that deports employers of illegal aliens? Perpetrator assets could then seized and sold off to pay for the program. Wouldn’t that be a great idea!

Break a few windows to let everyone know what is going on and illegal immigration will end since illegals won’t have jobs. Just like other Americans who don’t have jobs because they only buy shit touched by Chinese hands.

I get a kick out of these comments….

They don’t need him to be president, they just need for him to stop Bernie.

Pete is a sanctimonious little man, a preaching phony who worked for McKinsey, a fact that I wouldn’t be bothered by except for the usual liberal hypocrisy, a small town mayor that doesn’t even get along with his own police force, a John Kerry-type who wanted to pad his resume’ because he had his eye on the WH for years and years

Pete wants to “enlarge” the Supreme Court so as to make it non-political??? Pete wants to do away with the Electoral College, but a little thing called the CONSTITUTION stands in his way. Pete raised his hand to DECRIMINALIZE the border and then he raised his hand to give all foreigners that cross our now open border FREE Medicare…IF THEY WANT IT???

Pete told Al Sharpton that he favors REPARATIONS.
Pete said that all 63 million voters that supported Trump are racists.
Pete says that Jesus would not want to be used as a political weapon but that he would hate today’s Republicans????

Even though a pandering Pete says that police are racist, Pete has ZERO support among black voters.

Pete isn’t as bad as Warren and he isn’t as bad as BERNIE (by far), but he doesn’t have the legs to get over the finish line. A baby faced gay man with a husband will have a tough time winning nationally…I’m not saying that this is right (I supported gay marriage before Obama and Hillary Clinton), but facts are what they are.

Globe desperately pushing Mayor Pete now that their two former favorites Warren and then Biden flame out. They are terrified of Bernie getting the nod. Talk about being on the wrong side of history. Pete is a boy, a smart boy but just a boy nonetheless. And as a combat veteran I don’t want to hear anything about his short term reserve service being a chauffeur for the Admiral in the Green zone.[I wonder if the admiral was into him].

Yay, Pete, don’t forget to bring all the same Wall Street crooks in with you! Oh, you got that covered already? https://www.cnbc.com/2019/07/18/buttigieg-hires-former-goldman-sachs-executive-as-policy-director.html

That’s great! Oh, and don’t forget to surround yourself with shills for the fossil fuel industry – it’s only pragmatic! Oh, you got that covered too? https://tinyurl.com/wtukc4f

Yay, Pete! You’re so much more than another slickly packaged, lesser-evil sell out from the corporate wing of the Democratic Party! We smart, pragmatic voters know that only a centrist who can eloquently explain why we can’t have good things for us and our kids can win!

    2/07/20 – 1:50AM
Pete checks off all of the boxes for the DNC to be an outstanding candidate (Harvard, Army, Diverse, Erudite, Not Medicare eligible) including a failed run at improving things for the low and moderate income residents of a smallish town in rural north Indiana. Home run!

    …..what do you think?

  33. Cargill February 7, 2020 at 3:52 pm #

“I can’t say for sure that this makes him an ineffective manager of the nation’s affairs, but it does leave you kind of wondering. The fact remains, though, that his antagonists have behaved much worse, and now they are going to be punished.”

I can’t believe James – or in fact anyone who is sentient at all – could make this statement and actually believe it. The behaviour of the Dumpster – and his whole professional career crime family, and the venal lackies around them – is so much much worse than anything anyone in the Democratic Party has ever even dreamt of.

The statement is laughably silly – and the worst case of “both-siderism” I’ve seen for a long time.

And now that the Dumpster has been given a total cover-up by the Senate traitors, he will indeed go more extreme extreme in his behaviour. He doesn’t just fantasise about being king and dictator – shooting someone on 5th Avenue at no cost – the Congress, through a craven Senate, has guaranteed it all for him.

It doesn’t bear thinking about, what he’ll be liked if he wins a second term … it would be catastrophic.

He will now be totally unchained and unbound, firstly in his revenge and victimisation of anyone and everyone who said a single word against him during the impeachment process (and especially anyone who told the truth, which was everyone who was critical).

They will be hunted and hounded and persecuted and vilified – not because they misspoke, or breached laws, or betrayed the country, or were a security risk … no, they will be ruined simply for telling the truth, and naively believing they live in a society where the rule of law prevailed, and justice was based on truth and evidence.

How wrong they were – indeed how wrong was the Democratic Party, in believing in a system that should exist but does not … the Republican Party thugs and their billionaire puppet-masters control the lot … and a craven mainstream media normalises all this for them.

Meanwhile the rubes out in the flyovers believe (or go along with) all the crap pouring out – just so long as far-right judges are appointed, abortion is nailed down, and their precious white nationalist society can be allowed to struggle along for one ore generation.

However James has been forecasting the demise of the Democratic Party for weeks / months / years … hasn’t happened yet (2018 was pretty successful) and I think he vastly under-estimates the overall goodness and good sense of a lot of American people.

And the right-wing fruit-loops on here – hunkered down in their Idaho compounds of the mind – aren’t the Real America James, and they know it and you know it … no matter how much they gee each other up on this and other echo chambers.

Have a great day – it’s pouring rain in Australia, and it’s most welcome!

I’m not sure if Cargill ever set foot on American soil, but he’s an expert on American politics.

Posters here from the UK and former British Empire — Majella, Green Alba, Cargill, Elrond — appear to hate the President most. Good thing their opinions don’t really matter much.

        Brh

        • GreenAlba February 7, 2020 at 7:05 pm #

I rarely mention him, and when I have, anything I’ve said about him has been far outdone by what Americans on here say about him on a regular basis – even some of the ones who support him.

But I think you’ve just told us that what Americans on here say about the UK and Europe doesn’t matter. Fine. Take your ball home if you want to.

          • BackRowHeckler February 7, 2020 at 7:22 pm #

My apology GA I should not have included your name in that post. You are correct you don’t criticize the President much. And I should have clarified ‘ opinion doesn’t matter much’ when it come to US politics, that’s all.

No problem, brh, and thank you. But it does show that people should pay attention to what others actually, say, rather than extrapolate from their halo-effect mental picture of them.

I occasionally mention your Prez. I have very occasionally referred to his comportment, but also to his use, as a businessman, of copious amounts of low-wage foreign labour (which is a credibility issue). In addition, I have made relatively rare comments have been about his actions that risk affecting us all. , I think if you’re going to seed the EPA with environmental psychopaths, you should call it something less Orwellian – maybe the Agency for Not Giving a Fuck about the Environment. I have nevertheless acknowledged benr’s information about tree planting (with a proviso).

But on the matter of Russia, Ukraine or whatever else, I have quite explicitly said on several occasions that I believe he should stand or fall by the ballot box and nothing else (truly egregious behaviour excepted). Most of what I read on these matters is on here, so my commenting on them when I don’t live in the US would be a bit meaningless, in my view, and I prefer to leave it to y’all over there.

We’ve been to 37 states, DC, and a few external territories too, comrade. Have spent about 18 months in good ole USA in total. Have close relatives who live there.

But my expertise comes from (a) a lot of eclectic and moderate reading, (b) having a decent intellect, and (c) most importantly, not hating the Democratic Party, nor living inside the Dear Leader’s cult bubble.

You could try it sometime – you might find it liberating (and in fact, even liberalising!).

BTW y’all were also very much part of the former British Empire. And countries who were – and didn’t go to war over independence – have all done rather well: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and one or two others.

“A lapdog Australian pontificating about the ills of the US!”

“Lapdog”??? Australia was known as the ‘Deputy Sheriff’ when Shrub was intent on making large rocks into small rocks at great expense, but never a ‘lapdog’.

And he’s NOT pontificating about the ills of the US – he’s pointing out the obvious with regard to Himself and his cultist followers, is all. A good 60% of the US population doesn’t suffer from that particular affliction.

        • Nightowl February 8, 2020 at 4:16 am #

I would be money he has not.

As is so often in life, the ones who bloviate the most tend to know the least.

Cargill’s post is a classic example. Just another wall of text full of little more than snark when actually broken down into anything that could begin to resemble an argument.

I have no doubt that it took him 10 minutes to compose that, and in the end all it does is serve to advertise his greatest weakness. That being, ofc, thinking.

          • GreenAlba February 8, 2020 at 10:57 am #

Nightowl, something you said on the previous thread struck me as slightly erm…unfair.

You said that Meghan Markle is what ‘gentlemen refer to as a whore’.

Hmmm. Now I have no particular opinion, or need to have one, of Ms Markle, but that inspired two thoughts. The first is that since the overwhelming majority of men currently make regular use of whores, even if only by proxy on the Interwebz, we therefore might conclude that ‘gentlemen’ – if not hypocrites – are a dying breed.

The other thought that occurred to me was the obvious similarity between the trajectories of Ms Markle and one Melanija Knavs.

Melania also has a background in *cough* glamour modelling, and there was likewise an issue over photographs some would have liked not to gain much prominence after her er…legitimisation. Legitimisation because the obvious difference between Melania and Meghan is that only Melania was shagging her beau while he was still married to his previous wife.

So, what do ‘gentlemen’ call the erstwhile Ms Knavs? And why do they prefer to attack the erstwhile Ms Markle when they have a target so much closer to home?

Cargill said, “Meanwhile the rubes out in the flyovers believe (or go along with) all the crap pouring out –”

Well, dang it all! My country bumpkin ass is a bit chapped after all that stereotypical blather and lumping me and my people in some categorical shit pile you so eloquently describe. You’re just a bit overzealous with the hateful and bitter parts.

I best not use any big words. They don’t want me to get off the farm.

Some of us country bumpkins like to associate with all sorts of folks from all walks of life. Some of us bumpkins try to lift up people of all races and religions, mainly because we’re all part of the struggle. We actually help people and produce real results, unlike the Democratic Party over the past several decades. For the record, I’m not registered ‘R’, either. Me and my bumpkins serve the community, give money to local charities, serve on boards, establish scholarships, give a good UBER driver a $100 tip at Christmas, maybe even in July. Be careful throwing all those rocks. You might need our help one day.

I previously said anyone here would be offered a glass of wine at my place, but I failed to mention the “Rube Disclosure”, which simply states: we don’t like mean people, we don’t serve assholes, and we will ‘fite ya’ if you push hard enough.

Time for me to fix me and Maw an ‘Old Pal’ before we fluff up the straw. You’re not worth the read. Sad.

Probably pisses ya off that I might even say a prayer for ya, too.

      • volodya February 8, 2020 at 10:32 am #

Vinnie, what appalls me more than anything about the likes of our soi-disant elite and the people that shill for them is their sheer ineptitude, the sloppiness of thought and reasoning, the incompetence in planning and execution in virtually everything they touch, from the macro ie trade and foreign affairs, to the more narrowly focused ie national economic and monetary policy, to the more micro ie state and urban business. And that doesn’t count the farcical assemblage of frauds and ponzis we laughingly call financial markets.

For myself, I judge people by results, and results for going-on two generations have been calamitous.

How did Trump win power? See above.

It doesn’t take a PhD to see what’s plainly evident. Trust your own eyes. And so it’s not that tough to figure out what happened. So-called “rubes” came to their senses. Far from being low-information” voters, they saw what was right under their noses. They told the tax-cut quackers of the Republican Party to stuff it, similarly the neo-liberals on the opposite side of the political spectrum, took note of the insults coming from Democrats, and voted accordingly.

Did the “rubes” take a chance? They sure did, the obvious calculation being the devil they didn’t know over the devils they knew only too well.

Trump spent decades in mobbed-up industries like real estate and casinos and so you’d think his personal and commercial dealings would be target-rich environments like few others. And so, to extricate Trump from the Oval Office, they send Mueller and a team of investigators after him.

Slam dunk, right? Easy work for the best and the brightest against the dumbest and the worst, right? And then, two years and tens of millions of dollars later, what’s the result? Trump still in office, Mueller covered in ignominy, likewise the msm and a multitude of pundits who assured us for two years that indictments are imminent.

It wasn’t just Mueller and his investigators. The Deep State, ie intelligence organizations, federal cops, much of the judiciary, the State Department, worked against Trump, all of them aghast at the presence of this electoral mishap.

I don’t think it’s an overstatement to say that Trump had the might and resources of the United States government against him. But, incredibly, Trump still stands. He out-thought, out-fought, out-smarted all his adversaries. With all their supposed intellectual fire-power, they couldn’t beat him.

The results thus far are as much a tribute to Trump’s durability and cleverness as they are an indictment of the idiocy of our supposed betters.

So when we get disparaging comments about the moral squalor of the man in the White House and the intellectual deficiencies of people that voted for him, I would suggest to those commenters that it would greatly behoove them and their ilk to first look at their own.

  34. Vinnie the Vintner February 7, 2020 at 4:16 pm #

    Jim:

Nice depiction of yesterday’s events. How in the hell any person can have their family subjected to the lies, abuse, and corruption we have witnessed in the past three years is beyond me. Trump is one tough son-of-a-bitch! I would have definitely been bumbling on that podium, but you would have missed the message for all the bleeps.

If people are not convicted and jailed over this sham, the darker side of the moon will prevail, until it doesn’t.

Paul Harvey-“In times like these it is helpful to remember that there have always been times like these.”

I wonder if he would be saying that today? I know my poor old grandad would not. He would have never voted for a “Jesse Helms”, but I knew him well enough to know that he would not be voting for any of today’s Democratic candidates. .

Speaking of “Top 10” heroes. Number one, my grandfather. God bless, him. Wished he were here.

IMO Trump sprang from the Internet, maybe from a server located in NYC, but not like a normal human from the city itself.
And he doesn’t speak in incomplete thoughts – he speaks in memes. He calls up an idea that is meant to connect briefly, then he moves on to the next one. A conceptual slideshow.

Kid in town here just got sentenced to 20 years in state prison for being caught on a kiddie porn site. (2nd offense) About 20 years ago when he was very young his whole family was wiped out in auto accident and he himself, while the only survivor, suffered severe brain damage. Jeffrey Epstien was actually trafficing underage girls and he got a slap on the wrist.

And here’s the kicker, turns out the State Police was actually sponsoring the site, trolling for offenders.

Some blokes literally can’t resist the sight of the female human body in some circumstances. I always thought that it was a very dirty trick for the local police departments to set up fake prostitution stings at local hotels by publishing photos of hot women on the internet to lure blokes into the trap. Then the cops would steal the bloke’s cash.

Don’t the cops have anything better to do?

In this case, Pucker, it’s kiddie porn, not just ‘the female human body’. But it seems beyond excessive to slap a 20-year sentence on a young man with brain damage. Or any custodial sentence at all, if he’s seriously brain damaged. That’s ridiculous. They’d be better pursuing the people making the kiddie porn/filming child abuse.

Bernie Sanders is a “Leninist” according to Mr. Kunstler. Mmm, really?

    And as for this bit:

“..The fact remains, though, that his [Trump’s] antagonists have behaved much worse, and now they are going to be punished.”

With due respect, can the author be serious? No, Mr. Trump’s
antagonists are *not* going to be punished; not unless the whole
defective system crumbles. Maybe a third-stringer or two gets
indicted, to no systemic effect. We will see. 😉

“..The fact remains, though, that his [Trump’s] antagonists have behaved much worse, and now they are going to be punished.”

“Punishment” implies due process of law – no – they won’t be punished in a formal legal way … they will be slandered, libelled, dismissed, demoted, persecuted, twitterised, bad-mouthed, and generally trashed.

The Dumpster sends a message: “I am the King – if you attempt to strike the King, you must make sure you kill him, otherwise retribution will be swift and brutal”. And it’s happening already, just like Adam Schiff said it would.

Indeed … with just one example, I can refer you to PeteAtomic below – expressing belief that Joe Biden shows genuine visible support to Alexander Vindman – the guy has been sacked for telling the truth as a decent public servant.

And most people on here are snowflake hypocrites anyway – if they were sacked for telling the truth – or just doing their job decently and properly out in Podunk Indiana – they would cry like babies, or scream blue murder, or squeal like stuck pigs.

But they cheer the retribution and revenge the Dumpster in now enacting – because the are cultists with zombie-dead minds.

And “legally?” In case you haven’t noticed, “legally” currently means whatever those in power, regardless of their nominal political affiliation, says it means. That was what was so funny about the whole impeachment fiasco: two openly corrupt political crime families arguing over the “legality” of anything at all. Frankly, I’d be much more impressed if they simply armed up and fought it out to the bloody end on the steps of the capitol. Now that I would have paid to see!

    • Nightowl February 8, 2020 at 4:46 am #

That is unexpected and uplifting news.

Before moving overseas, I lived in DC, and I was always struck by the contrast of the beautiful late-19th-century architecture found in the neighborhoods (we had a small row house in NE), as well as buildings like Union Station, with so many of the monstrosities put up on the National Mall (fine examples in that post) and some of the office buildings in the surrounding area.

monstrosities put up on the National Mall–the statue of Mark King, aka MLK.

Modern art and architecture are generally a blight on humanity.

When I lived in DC, I used to go to the National Gallery on my lunch break. Spent the entire hour or so in there most times.

One day I ventured into the Hirshhorn. The one exhibit I had time for contained massive canvases that were either painted a single color (with nothing else) or that had a max. of three colors with some tiny geometric shape tucked in a random corner.

My 5-year old’s pirate drawings are more detailed and time consuming.

The Hirshhorn itself also resembles something one might see on the Maginot Line, complete with a sculpture garden that resembles a system of trenches.

          Truly inspiring.

Some oil will no doubt continue to be produced for decades to come. But once the energy industry has downsized to focus on the dwindling reserves of truly profitable oil, there is going to be a lot less of it and a great deal more competition to access it. That, in turn, means that environmental campaigners will soon be getting a taste of what a low-carbon economy really looks like – and rest assured it will look nothing like our contemporary economy but with wind turbines instead of diesel engines.

We won’t be in Kansas anymore. Or rather if you are it is really going to suck.

    • ellipsis February 8, 2020 at 7:00 am #

Disagree. Actually, small town ‘Murika will be the place to be (assuming one has no choice but to be in ‘Murika), although Kansas will, granted, be one of the decidedly less desirable small town locales to choose from. Won’t be no picnic there either, but it will continue to beat the shit out the big cities.

As to your main point, yes, low-carbon is going to totally suck for a population addicted to the opposite. Regardless, this day was always inevitable, so might as well get on with it and learn to deal.

    • BackRowHeckler February 8, 2020 at 9:32 am #

When is this going to happen, K-Dog? Because right now there appears to be plenty of petroleum to go around.

I know you think we are on the verge of economic collapse. But I would postulate there are still too many competent, practical, intelligent people in the US for it to collapse thru resource depletion, yourself for example, as an electrical engineer. Because it seems the most important resource is not oil, but human. For example, how did European Jews build such a prosperous nation on a strip of barren desert land on the eastern edge of the Med? Similarly, Mormons in Utah, descendants mostly of New England Yankees, created order and prosperity on a salt wasteland possessing no discernable natural resources. What natural resources do Taiwan or Japan have, beside having some of the highest standard of living in the world? Conversely, Zimbabwe was is full of everything needed to produce wealth and plenty and indeed was once the breadbasket of southern Africa; just last week I read there are reports of famine in Zimbabwe. South Africa is headed in the same direction now that its trained engineers, administrators and ranchers are leaving. Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world, but is an economic and social basket case, and gives the closest example (outside Haiti) to what collapse in the western hemisphere looks like.

There’s till too much prosperity here … in my own little world — and we are nobody special — I don’t know anybody who is unemployed, in economic distress, in serious debt, or is generally struggling. Instead it’s new trucks and European vacations all around. In fact I think some of the people around me live too high off the hog and a stretch of hard times would do them some good.

While I agree with you that some places do more with less, while others seem to do little with a cornucopia of theoretical opportunities, I don’t think ‘it seems the most important resource is not oil, but human means an awful lot more in the very long run than ‘the stone age didn’t end because they ran out of stones’. The important issue being that stones were a technology, not an energy source. So are human brains (which are themselves an energy consumer).

Likewise the confident 1970s French TV (pro-nuclear) adverts that said ‘En France on n’a pas de pétrole, mais on a des idées’ (In France we have no oil, but we have [plenty of] ideas’) can only take you so far.

Their electricity is overwhelmingly from nuclear – I said I’d look into what they do with all the waste, but haven’t done it yet.

Interestingly, if you google ‘what does France do…’ the first thing that comes up is ‘with nuclear waste’, way above ‘for fun’ and ‘for Christmas’! Other enquiring minds clearly want to know. Or maybe Google’s just chucking my reading habits back at me?

Anyway, I think, rather than pretending we can keep producing as much energy (from whatever sources), we’d do better concentrating on recalibrating our various infrastructures (from transport to domestic to medical and everything else in between) to produce priority outcomes with less available energy. Letting ourselves down gently…ish.

For a start, nobody needs as much meat as is eaten daily in America and a few other places. And if there weren’t all those horrific industrial cow-growing plants to feed the greed it would also have the benefit of not squandering the last of our anti-bacterial arsenal on the prophylactic treatment of animals kept in inexcusably inhumane conditions. People could still have a burger, but just not every single day. And when your child got pneumonia, the antibiotics might just work for a bit longer.

In medical terms, we will gradually have to accept that, for example, midwifery and obs & gynae services that promote healthy childbirth outcomes have to take precedence over treating people of my age expensively for cancer. Hard choices. Hope I get a few more years before they have to be made (maybe I’d get points for the childminding!). But they will have to be made.

I was a little kid in the 1960s but I know we got by fine on a lot less than we have now, living on my father’s Korean War pension in a small 200 yo house alongside the Farmington River, heated with wood, and we had 1 car, a little ford falcon.

When I read TLE I thought, “Great, now maybe we’ll be seeing horses clippety clopping up main street again”. (Something that ended before my time, but I’ve seen pics)

I myself live pretty frugally, don’t drive too much, keep the thermostat low, don’t spend money unnecessarily etc. I could easily get by on less — I know it’s possible — but I’m afraid the people around me would have trouble adjusting.

I’ve wondered since the US is producing so much oil by fracking have any other countries started the fracking process if it is possible there? There are many other huge oil fields which may be brought back into major production if possible by fracking. The oil may not be cheap but there would be plenty available. A quick search didn’t find much info for me. Also we flare so much NG that could be brought on line but probably expensive.

        • GreenAlba February 8, 2020 at 10:22 am #

Yes, seeing gas flaring to no useful purpose is actually quite distressing, StE. It’s like watching people leave their engine idling for half an hour when they’re waiting for someone, rather than just putting on a warm jacket – if you’re going to pollute, better that it is for a justifiable purpose, at least.

If there are waste projects that capture methane from the anaerobic digestion of our rubbish and use it to heat homes, there must be more that can be done in terms of not wasting the NatGas at source.

        • Cargill February 8, 2020 at 2:00 pm #

“I’ve wondered since the US is producing so much oil by fracking have any other countries started the fracking process if it is possible there?”

Fracking is well established in Australia, but not without controversy. Farmers (and other rural folk) do not like it, when it disrupts communities, wrecks country roads, pollutes water sources, and ruins good farmland.

Rural folk are generally pretty conservative, but in respect of fracking, they are not.

Anyway, James has observed on here many times:

          1. Operators cannot make a profit from fracking
          2. The economy can’t afford the real cost of the product
          3. The wells go into steep decline very quickly
          4. It is a nasty, polluting activity

I’d invest my money somewhere else, I reckon.

Let me know if y’all can come up with a solution before Monday’s post. I’ll email it to my nephew the oil company executive & he can get right on it. I’ll even spread some of that sweet royalty money around amongst you fine folks.

          • GreenAlba February 9, 2020 at 6:55 am #

            Tate

I’m sure your nephew is well aware of developments.

            https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/energysource/an-approach-to-reduce-unproductive-flaring-of-natural-gas-the-development-of-new-gas-to-liquid-technology/

Perhaps he even, you know…cares about waste and unnecessary environmental damage to no economic purpose. I mean we’re not entitled to think he’s a psychopath just because he’s an ‘oil company executive’.

            Only you would know.

          • Tate February 9, 2020 at 3:55 pm #

Interesting, however, the process probably wouldn’t eliminate all flaring.

I’ve suggested to my nephew tongue-in-cheek that they should just put baffles up around the stacks to shield the flaring from public view. This would discourage criticism by the scolds, out of sight – out of mind, so to speak.

This approach seems to work in keeping the truth hidden about the kebabi rape gangs in the UK, for example. Ignored by the unofficial organs of state propaganda such as the Guardian newspaper, your typical tricoteuse is kept happily oblivious.

          • GreenAlba February 9, 2020 at 8:50 pm #

I see your mind hasn’t improved, Tate.

And nobody suggested it would eliminate all flaring.

I’d like to have hoped executive nephew could use his brain to better effect. But I’m guessing from your conversation with him that he’s probably just a sideways chip off the old psychopathic block.

          • GreenAlba February 9, 2020 at 9:09 pm #

And if it takes you that long to come back with an answer that’s made such a self-conscious effort to include two bits of puerile sexism, you could have taken the time to proofread it first and remove the dangling modifier in your last sentence.

Or maybe you really did mean the tricoteuse was ignored by the Guardian. 🙂

Such a shame – bit like getting your punchline wrong.

      • K-Dog February 8, 2020 at 3:14 pm #

But I would postulate there are still too many competent, practical, intelligent people in the US for it to collapse thru resource depletion.

Physics will win and all the Kings horses and all the Kings men can’t put fossil fuels in the ground again.

Humans as a resource. Are you kidding? Humans consume resources. I have the sad and growing realization that intelligent people are like wild animals in a world filled with sheep. What kind of resource needs self help books to know how to be happy.

How did European Jews build such a prosperous nation on a strip of barren desert land on the eastern edge of the Med?

Fossil fuels guns concrete steel and theft. That is how they did it.

You agree there was too much prosperity. I’m already putting it in the past tense. Much recent prosperity has been consumed by smart people trying to keep our doomed system alive. The smarts of which you speak have been socially diverted to become the cleverness of madmen. People can’t deal with the consequences of finite resources on a planet that does not grow real estate.

For about a generation after its founding, Salt Lake City was very much the kind of society its founders intended. A grand experiment in centralized planning and cooperative imagination, it was a relatively self-sufficient, egalitarian, and homogeneous society based mainly on irrigation agriculture and village industry. Religion infused almost every impulse, making it difficult to draw a line between religious and secular activities. A counterculture that differed in fundamental ways from its contemporary American society, it was close-knit, cohesive, and unified, a closely-woven fabric with only a few broken threads. The hand of the Mormon church was ever present and ever active.

Farming virgin land is not making a new life in a salt wasteland. You also make wild claims not dealing with population in any way. In 1950 the population of Zimbabwe was less than 3 million. Now it is over 13 million. The elephants living there are not to happy about this. Some remember better times. They don’t know about your prosperity.

Better: we’ve got to throw the election to Trump to tamp down all this socialist non-sense (I’m sure pay-offs – both political and monetary – will be made to soften the blow). The Dems don’t truly hate Trump at all. Rather, they actually envy him for moving on to the next big thing before they did. HRC wanted so bad to carry that mantle, but her feeble imagination just wan’t big enough. Unfortunately, not so, her sense of entitlement.

The guy has purple hearts! How low, vile, and despicable can one human being get? How much bile is in him … how much vengeance does his psychotic ego require?

And all this from ‘Bone Spurs’ – the guy born into a corrupt wealthy family, and who has never spent one single day in military service. What a pathetic excuse for a man Dear Leader (monkey orange face) is.

    I found this,

Can’t even go out to enjoy a good movie anymore.
Today’s new movie that just hit the screen is one called
    Rhythm Section.

The trailer reveals a typical woke Hollywood trash movie with the weak looking white female lead going on a revenge killing spree against old white men for killing her family in a plane crash.

Of course, she somehow obtains super-human strength and to top it off, the trailer shows a scene of a big black buck pumping her against a wall.

His height is the least of his concerns.

He has the look of a ventriloquist’s dummy, and a certain sweaty sheen. The skin crawls.

It can work here in Europe, because politicians and the media don’t hyper-focus on sexuality or advertise it as a positive quality for which one would want to vote for (or want for themselves). It is a private subject.

Democracy does devolve into Idiocracy. Sad but true. But at the same time, how will the Wuhan Coronavirus change the trajectory of China? Still so many unanswered questions about the whole situation and the world tries to move on. But cases continue to multiply and spread both inside and outside China. The threat to the economy and social order globally and locally is catastrophically underestimated in my opinion.

      • BackRowHeckler February 8, 2020 at 2:55 pm #

I did ask upthread if this coronavirus, combined with events in Hong Kong, could threaten the hegemony of the ruling Communist regime in China. WSJ had a pretty good article on that exact subject today. Apparently, Xi is nowhere to be seen.

Interesting. Yeah I heard that Xi has disappeared into the woodwork too. The horror. The horror:

    https://vdare.com/posts/better-dead-than-rude-only-a-slim-majority-favors-banning-those-already-infected-with-coronavirus-from-entering-us

Not people from China per se – but those already KNOWN to be infected. This is the result of 12 or 16 years of schooling. It does what it is intended to do: break the spirit and separate people from their natural instincts and common sense. And let’s face it: any “learning” is pretty small potatoes compared to the loss of those. But such a loss is exactly what is required to be an “employee” and submit to the irrational and deprive yourself of what you need (like more sleep or to sit down).

In other words, I submit that if a poll was taken of the uneducated, the healthy response of banning the infected and to be safe – everybody from China – would be much, much higher. Ancient Chinese Wisdom: Close the schools. The people will benefit a hundredfold – The Tao Te Ching or The Way and its Power by Lao Tzu.

To reiterate: Very few can benefit from advanced schooling. For most it will remain an external thing, becoming just ideology. Few will have the capacity to reason upon that which is received – and few schools even allow for such a thing anymore in any case. And again, the loss of one’s natural likes and dislikes (ones prejudices!) is fatal to any Society. The superficial “education” received can in no wise make up for that in the vast majority.

Bill Maher tells Bannon that the Trump won because in some states a senator represents 20 million people and in some states a senator represents a couple hundred thousand ie the system is rigged against Democrats.

    Wrong again.

Trump won because he understood the electoral system and Hillary didn’t, he understood that in this system you have to win the geography of the country, he understood that you don’t insult those voters whose votes you need, he understood that both parties were working against the interests of those same people, he understood that Democrats wrote them off and that Republicans thought they could sell them shit and they would keep buying.

If Democrats don’t pull their heads out of their asses they will lose to Bernie or Trump.

    • Majella February 9, 2020 at 6:22 pm #

      V:

“Trump won because he understood the electoral system and Hillary didn’t,…”

I don’t buy that. It was not HIMSELF who came to these conclusions but Bannon, Manafort (who volunteered to work for free), and Miller – a triumvirate of archness if ever there was one.

Himself was the horn on the end of the klaxon, and the required pumped air was supplied by people way more clever than him. He gets way too much credit for the victory.

I believe Miller is now the only Campaign aide of consequence left in the WH (as J & I cannot be seriously counted). The standard ‘time of tenure’ looks to have been 350-400 days (with the notable exceptions of Flynn & Scaramucci…)

So, now He has managed to surround himself with the near-perfect set of sycophantic lackeys He requires to function and has ‘taken over’ policymaking. As a result, the wheels may well fall off between here & November 3rd.

      From Truthdig:

An article arising from a conversation between Max Blumenthal & Robert Scheer:

“…Blumenthal believes there will be a repeat of what happened in 1972 when George McGovern ran for president.

“I think that if Bernie Sanders gets the nomination, there will be an effort to ‘McGovern’ him,” he posits. The Democratic Party will “hope that Bernie Sanders gets destroyed by Donald Trump, and then wag their fingers at the left for the next 20 years until they get another Bill Clinton.

“I think that they don’t know how to stop him at this point, but they’re willing to let him be the nominee and go down to Donald Trump, because Bernie Sanders threatens their interests, and the movement behind him particularly, more than Donald Trump does.”

    • Majella February 10, 2020 at 4:34 am #

As I’ve speculated before, if the DNC screwing of Bernie is egregiously obvious enough, he’d have nothing to lose by saying “well, fuck you!” and go independent candidate. He should take Yang as VP.

He wouldn’t win, most likely, but he’d beat whatever loser the DNC puts up, and probably quite handsomely. That’d be the end of the Dem Party, but will likely see Trump trying for a 3rd term in 2024.

    I would broaden and simplify my list ;

  62. tjmoerman February 8, 2020 at 10:27 pm #

    Man.

    I haven’t read Jim’s blog for a long time.

I owe Jim a lot. His book, the Geography of Nowhere, is what made me want to become an urban planner, a career that I’ve been very successful and happy in for nearly twenty years. 1990’s Jim Kunstler had a witty and humanely angry outrage about the state of North American cities that really put a fire in the belly of a generation of urban planners. On my first day in planning school, a group of us all agreed that he’d hit the nail on the head. I still lend out my copy to my planning interns.

Later, as peak oil seemed imminent, he seemed to have hit the nail on the head again. It was, in early 2008, not to think that the fossil fuel fiesta had truly ended. Everything was going exactly as one would expect as we hit the inflection point of global fossil fuel production. Jim called it again.

He seemed right enough, and convincing enough, and generally on the side of the angels enough, that I kind of squinted and looked away from some of his less appealing views. The fixation on illegal Mexican immigration. The idea that after 9/11, the U.S. needed to attack an Arab country–not even just a Muslim country, if even retribution based on religion was a valid instinct–but an Arab country. So Iraq was fair game. The transphobia. You excuse these kinds of things when someone seems to be courageous and right about bigger things.

I remember Jim warning us that as the long emergency begins to make itself undeniable, that Americans would risk falling prey to demagogues. I assumed when he said that, that he meant that would be a bad thing.

I haven’t checked Jim’s blog for awhile now. And here I am back, having a look, and I’m appalled. Talking about Mueller and impeachment as though it is not self-evident, thanks to a mountain of evidence right out in the public, that Donald Trump has done everything he’s accused of and more. Parrotting the boneheaded conspiracy theories and talking points of the Fox News and yell radio yahoos he used to mock.

I read this blog and it feels like all the grumpy reason and humanity is gone. What’s left is indulging the worst instincts America has to offer. What’s left is punching down.

    What happened to you, Jim?

    • KesaAnna February 8, 2020 at 11:04 pm #

Apparently that three decades of presidential investigations undoubtedly adds up to millions , or hundreds of millions , in lawyer fees , as if lawyers are fucking starving ,

is lacking in self – evidence to a hell of a lot more people than Kunstler.

or maybe that is one of the reasons it obsesses him , the shear fucking waste in the name of “justice ” ?

A trotting out of your resume , and saccharine condescension.

I should thank you . You remind me why I like hanging out here and not lots of other places,

    • Janos Skorenzy February 8, 2020 at 11:28 pm #

“I remember Jim warning us that as the long emergency begins to make itself undeniable, that Americans would risk falling prey to demagogues. I assumed when he said that, that he meant that would be a bad thing.”

      *Indeed, indeed*.

These last few weeks I have similarly lamented the spiral descent down into what we now have. I too have an urban planning background, and loved Jim’s work in that field … he was passionate, angry, and would not accept what most of the ruling class said was “the American way of (suburban) life”.

Now we have something entirely different: the usual set of old-white-man prejudices, complaints, nostalgia, and laments (which attracts many of the regulars here like flies – right up their demographic alley).

And crossed with a vehement hatred of the Democratic Party, a concomitant obsession with normalising Trump, and a feverish desire to report, repeat, and expand on every GOP | Fox News talking point, and a long list of fruit-loop conspiracy theories about this devilish Deep State plot to rid the nation of Trump.

Makes you wonder what happened to JHK.

    Lance Welton writes for VDARE:
If it is true that only East Asians are dying of, or even catching, Corona, that would be consistent with long-established race differences in the susceptibility to such viruses. This has been explored in a fascinating study, by a group of Chinese researchers led by C. L. Chen of Soochow University, entitled: Ethnic differences in susceptibilities to A(H1N1) flu [African Journal of Biotechnology, 2009].
The authors begin by noting that, from an evolutionary perspective, there is every reason to expect there to be ethnic or race differences in the susceptibility to different pathogens. Races—or, as they call them, “ethnic groups”—are breeding populations, long-separated, usually by geography, who are, therefore, genetic clusters adapted to different ecologies. Because they were exposed to different pathogens in prehistory, there are very likely to be race differences in susceptibility to the pathogens and in how well the immune system can fight them.
Many infectious diseases jumped the species barrier from animals to humans due to our close contact with animals while pursuing agriculture. For this reason, groups that never innovated agriculture, or who only innovated it in a limited form or only relatively recently took it up, can be decimated by flu-like viruses.
Thus the authors observe that the Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918 was three to 70 times more deadly to “natives” in Canada and the USA, as well as to the reindeer herding Saami people in Sweden and Norway, than it was to the rest of these countries’ populations. This is because most white and black people are descended from those who have long practiced farming. The authors add that the Swine Flu Pandemic of 2009 was five times more deadly to Maori people than it was to other New Zealanders.
The Corona Virus is closely related to SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) [Coronavirus vs. SARS: Health experts on the key differences between the two outbreaks, by Sam Meredith, CNBC, January 28, 2020], of which there was a major outbreak in 2003, which also began in China in 2002.
According to Wikipedia (which is, presumably, politically neutral on such numbers), total of 774 people died across 29 countries. This amounted to almost 10% of those who caught it. Potentially in line with the findings of the Chinese researchers, the mortality rate for SARS in Europe was almost nil. Minuscule numbers of people caught it and only one of them died, in France (where there were an, atypically high, 7 cases).
By contrast, in Hong Kong the mortality rate from SARS was 17%. In Taiwan, it was 10%. In Canada, it was 17%, but it seems pretty obvious that they were all “Chinese Canadians,” what with there being so many Chinese people in Canada and documented attempts made to “help” them (specifically) deal with the virus [see Beyond SARS: ethnic community organization’s role in public health—a Toronto experience, By W. Dong, Promotion and Education, 2008].
In Singapore, 13% of those who caught SARS died out of 238 cases. Other countries had very small numbers of cases or, as with Vietnam, their medical access would have been sub-optimal, rendering it difficult to make comparisons.
But essentially it can be said the SARS was an East Asian disease which, like Corona, can be traced to bats. SARS didn’t severely impact the rest of the world, despite people definitely catching it. It disproportionally killed East Asians. See SARS: The Immigration Dimension II, by Walter Pringle, VDARE.com, April 24, 2003.

Anglin comments: It is absolutely insane that the media refuses to tell us whether or not non-Asians have been infected with this disease.
Apparently, that would lead people to believe that race exists, when we all know that it doesn’t. The differences in the susceptibility to diseases among different populations is due to geographically-determined genetic clusters, which is something totally different than race. Furthermore, these clusters are not actually different from each other, and everyone on earth is in fact exactly the same as every other person.
    That’s the magic of equality.

Janos comments: Fear not my brothers and sisters, our genotype will protect us – the very one that Alba and Maj think so little of and would have us throw away for a mess of pottage.

    • GreenAlba February 9, 2020 at 7:11 am #

Anyone would think what you were saying is a mystery to everyone but the initiated. Everyone knows that different ethnic groups are more susceptible than others to certain diseases – sickle cell anaemia being a standout example that isn’t much of a secret. And not even entire ethnic groups. In the Auvergne region, where my former father-in-law came from, there was/is a higher rate of babies born with dislocated hips, compared to the rest of France. So?

Likewise an awful of of Chinese people are unable to properly metabolise alcohol, hence many business meetings where the participants end up under the table rather faster than might a similar group of London City types..

What that has to do with your unpleasant version of racism is the mystery.

I wasn’t stereotyping the Chinese, if you’re referring to me.

          http://www.ias.org.uk/Blog/Alcohol-drinking-and-risk-of-liver-diseases-in-Chinese-men-why-and-what-do-we-learn-from-them.aspx

“many people in China and other East Asian populations cannot metabolise alcohol effectively due to an genetic deficiency, which leads to the accumulation of the harmful acetaldehyde (which is a carcinogen and damages the liver) and the unpleasant flushing response with hot flushes and nausea after moderate drinking.”

It’s just a scientific observation, and not even a recent one.

And thanks to the media and schools of studied ignorance, most people don’t understand these things at all. So you’re wrong even about that.

        • GreenAlba February 9, 2020 at 12:16 pm #

“So you fancy yourself an expert in these matters, eh?”

I must have missed the bit where I claimed to be any kind of expert. I think you’ll find everything I said comes under the less hubristic heading of ‘general knowledge’. Some people (with natural curiosity and/or good memories) have more than others – almost all of us have only bits and pieces from small facets of human knowledge while other people have other bits and pieces. Hence it’s easy to label other people as ignorant just because they know different things from you.

But I digress … It may surprise you to know (although I don’t know why it would) that observed differences in average IQ among different races (aren’t the Ashkenazi Jews tops?) don’t faze me in the slightest. But that’s because I don’t judge people by their IQ. You will recall I have one daughter much more academically gifted than the other. The less clever one nevertheless owns half her flat while still in her 30s and has not ended up in jail.

You still haven’t answered my question as to why you look down your nose at peasants, despite their being rather more useful, and generally less belligerent, than many people who are not peasants.

    @akmofo:

JESUIT educated “Atwill claims that Christianity didn’t exist before the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. The Roman historian Tacitus places Christian persecution under Emperor Nero in AD 64—well before the destruction of Jerusalem. Tacitus even calls the Christian movement an “immense multitude.” He writes,

‘Consequently, to get rid of the report, Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome… Mockery of every sort was added to their deaths. Covered with the skins of beasts, they were torn by dogs and perished, or were nailed to crosses, or were doomed to the flames and burnt, to serve as a nightly illumination when daylight had expired.’

    evidenceunseen.com/theology/book-reviews/a-critique-of-joseph-atwills-covert-messiah/

    1. If Christianity was a Roman conspiracy, then why would Tacitus—a Roman historian—claim that Christianity existed in AD 64?

    2. And, more importantly, why would the Roman emperor Nero persecute Christians in this way, if Rome was actually trying to support, promote and sanction christianity?

What did I made up? I showed you the text. The text is as clear as can be. Yet, somehow everyone draws the opposite conclusions of what is written because that’s the “authoritative consensus”. I call bullshit on the whole nonsense. I don’t give a shit what consensus is. It’s all manipulated and dictated from above by the Roman mafia through terror power politics and money. It’s all corrupt nonsense and propaganda lies!

    • akmofo February 9, 2020 at 2:35 pm #

      Joe Atwill addresses this nonsense:

“Christians” as described by Tacitus were the Messianic Jews who soon later mounted a full scale national rebellion against ROME. The term “Christians” was later usurped by the Flavians Caesars as they created their Roman PSYOP brand of “Jewish” Messianism that was pro-Roman, pro-Caesar, pro-Idol Worship, pro-Pagan, was Roman staffed, was Roman controlled, and was Roman to its core.

Like I said before, you’re too stupid to understand lies and why they are created.

      • akmofo February 9, 2020 at 3:52 pm #

The English word “Christ” is an Anglicized form of the Latin word “Christus”, which is, in turn, a Latinized form of the Greek word “Christós”, meaning “anointed one” from Hebrew “Mashiah”. The word “Christians” therefore transliterate as “Messianics”. These “Messianics” were Jewish messianics, as the Roman character “Jesus Christ” allegorized on the war campaign of Nero’s Roman Generals Vespasian and his son Titus is yet to be created. That story was only possible to write with the war’s end after 73 CE, and with Vespasian and his son Titus becoming the new Roman Divined Gods and Caesars.

        • messianicdruid February 9, 2020 at 4:40 pm #

You did not answer either question.

          • messianicdruid February 9, 2020 at 4:59 pm #

            So, here’s another try.

            3. Do you believe Tacticus was in on it – in other words was his stuff fiction too; perhaps to terrorize the Christian’s into obeying Ceasar?

            4. At what point in time do the fictional Christian’s, apostles disciples of the man who fulfilled all the Hebrew scriptures become just simple dupes who were willing to die because they no longer feared God being convinced of His love and providence for them.

          • akmofo February 9, 2020 at 5:53 pm #

Q 3. Do you believe Tacticus was in on it – in other words was his stuff fiction too; perhaps to terrorize the Christian’s into obeying Ceasar?

A: I don’t know about Tacticus and when he wrote what exactly. Did he write what he wrote when Nero was Emperor? When Vespasian was Emperor, when Titus was Emperor? Roman “history” was/is Roman politics. NOTHING written in the Empire, and I mean NOTHING, was written which was not approved by the Emperor of the time. Censorship was complete and absolute. Furthermore, ROMANS are notorious criminal liars thieves and murderers, that’s what the population of ROME was known for, so either which way I hold ZERO regard for anything ROMAN.

Q 4. At what point in time do the fictional Christian’s, apostles disciples of the man who fulfilled all the Hebrew scriptures become just simple dupes who were willing to die because they no longer feared God being convinced of His love and providence for them.

A: All the first “Christians” as recorded by the Vatican itself were part of the Emperor Cult religion and were are actual family relations of the Flavian Emperors. Christianity was a top down religion. Christianity was a cult of the Roman Court until it was made a state religion. There are no Churches prior to that. Nothing prior to the 4rd Century. As it was adopted by the ruling Roman aristocracy, it was then forced on the poor population. That’s basically the blueprint of how Christianity spread. Anything else is pure lying propaganda.

It is kind of ironic that Bernie Sanders, Socialist, could not even manage to bring back agriculture to levels Vermont already managed to have in the past. One tiny state. Isn’t that the one thing Communists are supposed to be able to run? –Beryl of Oyl

Bernie is not a capital D Democrat, he is an Independent. Bernie is not a communist. Bernie is not a soviet style socialist. Bernie is an American democratic socialist.

Beryl of Oyl, have you been to Vermont? Most of Vermont’s land is hilly and rocky. It’s not Kansas. But it is an ideal place to raise livestock such as cows, sheep, goats and llamas. They don’t call it the Green Mountain State for nothin’ since it has the Green Mountain ridge running down the center of the state. (There are other mountain ridges as well – the Appalachian, Hoosac and Taconic.)

So what has Bernie done for Vermont’s agriculture? He’s made the best of bad topography. The land is great for growing hay and Vermont is the largest hay-producing state in New England.

Dairy accounts for more than 70 percent of Vermont’s agricultural economy. Most major cattle breeds are found in the state, along with many breeds of sheep, llamas, alpacas, goats, chickens, turkeys, emus and rare poultry types. Vermont is famous for being the home of the Morgan horse breed. A variety of crops are produced, too, including apples, honey, corn, Christmas trees, maple syrup and more. Over 7,000 farms averaging 177 acres in size work to produce these commodities.

Bernie has also diversified the Vermont economy by increasing manufacturing, with companies like GlobalFoundries, GE Aviation, and GW Plastics. Thanks to Bernie, Vermont is also growing a new generation of advanced manufacturers. … Manufactured goods exported by Vermont companies made up almost 71% of all Vermont exports.

You are wrong to call Bernie a communist. You are wrong about how Bernie has helped the economy of such a “tiny state.”

It’s going to be great when President Sanders forgives student debt, increases minimum wage to $15 an hour, expands Medicare to inclued vision, dental, hearing, etc., reduces cost of drugs, provides free education, increases Social Security benefits, etc.

Where is all the money going to come from? You don’t ask where the money will come from for Trump’s increases in defense budget.

The trillions of dollars for President Sander’s programs will come from the place where it has all gone: the 1% through a small stock market transaction tax on each trade and making multinational corporations start paying their fair share of taxes. It is going to make America great!

    • BackRowHeckler February 9, 2020 at 11:14 am #

      Little Jane

Breadline Bernie will need a defense budget too, maybe a larger one than the one now. China and Russia are developing new weapons systems all the time, pretty impressive ones; what, you think that will stop just because Breadline Bernie is in office?

Ok, I was in our break room at about 2:00 am, evesdropping on a group of black dudes talking about basically what was on the front page of the newspaper, which was the NH primary. They were making fun of Mayor Pete. I heard ‘Chasten’, then some loud, knee slapping laughs.

I know it’s just anecdotal, and Mayor Pete is riding high, but I don’t think many black people at all will vote for Mayor Pete where the black vote counts. They have their reasons. He may not get 50 black votes across the entire United States. His campaign might be doomed (to failure). This is just based on what I have heard and seen so far. BRH,
It might appeal more to blacks if Pete’s relationship with his significant-other were better defined.

Is Pete the Mommy or the Daddy?

I have no issue either way, but Ghetto Culture can accept the male role in buggery…the mental gymnastics would astound you. Ask your buddies if it makes any difference to them.

No JHK, Trump is not exactly a Golem–

When I hear him talk, he reminds me more of the 1000-foot-high Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man in Ghostbusters.
“Choose the form of your Destructor!” bellows Gozer, and they got the Sta-Puft creature.
Perhaps we have chosen the form of our destructor….

I read the 17th Karmapa was born into a herder family around 1980 or 1990.
see ‘Dance of 17 lives’ or wiki.

You’re right. I misspoke. I’ll be more careful. Actually according to wiki as much as 40% of ethnic Tibetans are pastoral nomads. And yes, Ogyen Trinley Dorje’s parents were such nomads. Did you know that there is another 17th Karmapa? His name is Trinley Thaye Dorje. The Dalai Lama and the Chinese government don’t believe that he is the 17th Karmapa.

Bloomberg Becoming Oligarch-in-Chief of Democratic Party

    https://www.blackagendareport.com/bloomberg-becoming-oligarch-chief-democratic-party

“If Sanders wins the nomination, Michael Bloomberg and his filthy rich brethren are already preparing to fund and erect an alternative structure of dependable corporate governance.

“Bloomberg has put his own money on the line, and is challenging his Midas-Touch peers to join him at the boardroom barricades.”

“While the other Democratic presidential hopefuls slog it out on the ground, shaking hands and begging money, Michael Bloomberg, the world’s 8th richest man, is deploying his $61.9 billion fortune to methodically buy his way to ownership of the Democratic Party. Bloomberg’s $800,000 donation to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and state party organizations back in November bore fruit last week when the DNC dropped its rules requiring candidates to raise money from a minimum number of individual donors, plus reach a threshold in polling numbers, to qualify for the next televised debate, in Las Vegas. The decision was tailor-made for Bloomberg, the only candidate that does not accept outside donations. Instead, Bloomberg turns the golden spigot in the other direction, converting opponents and critics into boosters and allies — a cash-cooptation strategy that made New York City a global Mecca for his fellow oligarchs, and for hyper-gentrification, during his three terms as mayor (two of them as a Republican).

“Having saturated the airwaves of targeted states with advertising, the nation’s most electorally-oriented oligarch should have no problem polling high enough to qualify for the next debate. With Biden stumbling into the basement in Iowa’s app-struck (more likely, DNC/spook-struck) primary caucuses, Bloomberg is now the Great White Hope to beat back Bernie Sanders’ and Elizabeth Warren’s soak-the-rich hordes – a task unfit for the Black-averse small town mayor, Pete Buttigieg.”

A question for the ages: which billionaire do you want ruling you? How about none of the above? #Bernie2020

I understand your angst despite our disagreements. But beware of Bernie. He has appeased the Establishment in the past and he is a millionaire you know.

      • wpa_ccc February 9, 2020 at 1:39 pm #

The difference between Trump’s socialism and Bernie’s socialism is that Trump is benefitting his billionaire buddies and Bernie will benefit millions of American families with debt forgiveness, infrastructure, housing, Medicare for all, free education (free to working families and paid for by the 1%)

Bush crashed the economy in 2007-2008. When Obama bailed out car companies with $12 Billion in 2009, and the Republicans called Obama a socialist (even though the bailouts were repaid with interest)

Now Trump bails out BigAg with $28 Billion, because of a trade war Trump started. Trump is a bigger socialist than Obama. Call out socialist Trump and his incompetent, petty, vindictive reality show governing.

On the other hand, maybe we should let Trump be Trump, the best unifier the Democrats have! Go Donald!

      • Majella February 9, 2020 at 7:10 pm #

        “…and he’s a millionaire you know”.

He earned a couple of big cheques over a couple of years and now he’s an oligarch.

Anyone just OWNING property in Manhattan, or the hills of Los Angeles or out the back of SF (in some areas of Walnut Creek, for instance) are as much a millionaire as Bernie is.

        • BackRowHeckler February 9, 2020 at 7:20 pm #

By all means, let Senator Sanders rake in all he can, when he can. Nobody is denying him that.

        • SoftStarLight February 9, 2020 at 10:35 pm #

Yes, in fact he is an oligarch after earning a few big checks. Bernie used to be against open borders. He knew then that open borders were detrimental for Americans. He knows that open borders shrinks opportunities and resources for us. But now he agrees with the Chamber of Commerce and the Globalists.

          • Nightowl February 10, 2020 at 10:06 am #

The greatest indicator of Bernie’s fraudulent ways is his support for Clinton in the last election.

She was easily the most corrupt candidate, yet he licked the boot that ground him into the mud.

It was so bad, he gave Trump many voters, securing him the Presidency.

Ofc, in the end this was good on every level. We now have real pushback in the WH against globalism, and Bernie was exposed. The Bernster even had me fooled.

          • Majella February 10, 2020 at 3:41 pm #

As I’ve argued before, Bernie’s behaviour in 2016 was pragmatic. If he hadn’t supported her against the Clown Candidate, he’d have been given all the blame for his pseudo victory. As it is, HRC is now saying he ‘didn’t do enough’ for her. What a cunt.

This time around, I suspect, given his age and all, that he’d have nothing to lose in flipping the DNC the bird and running independent. He’d come second, more than likely, with whatever shill the Dems put up a distant third.

    • BackRowHeckler February 9, 2020 at 2:26 pm #

Bloomberg or Breadline Bernie might launch a 3rd party campaign, whoever loses out in Milwaukee in July. What a contest: neo Leninist vs multi billionaire! A fight for the soul of the Dem Party.

Hey Elrond, either one of them, should they succeed, might want to hire you as ‘Climate Commissar’, a new cabinet post. The only caveat is you’d have to become an American Citizen. It will be a powerful post, lording over the entire US. Interested?

I like Bernie – but he’s too old, and too set in his ways. Plus the Republicans would crush him like a bug.

I like Elizabeth Warren too – but she lied for years about being Native American … in my book unforgivable. Joe Biden is a grifter, has a questionable family, and also too old.

Pete needs to get some federal experience, and try again in ten years.

      Maybe I go for Amy!

Well, time to dust off Bernie Sanders poem from 2016

I’ve just met a Marxist/Leninist named Bernie Sanders
    And suddenly his line
    Seems so correct and fine
    To me
    Bernie Sanders
Say it soft and there’s rice fields flowing
Say it loud and there’s people’s war growing
    Bernie Sanders
I never stop saying Bernie Sanders.
    Revolution!!!

    • elysianfield February 9, 2020 at 5:04 pm #

      BRH,
I’ve met the Marxist Bernie Sanders,
To the intellectual lumpen he panders,
The party line, the sublime dialectic,
      Will drive us nuts…apoplectic!

      Feel the Burn, (like gonorrhea!)
      See the US…Like North Korea!
Say it soft, and there’s bread lines growing,
Say it loud, the race war’s roiling.

Say “Bernie Sanders” is a commie tool,
Say it daily, with your bread and gruel,
Spread the word, feel it in your guts,
Cause in your heart, you know he’s nuts….

    Shocking Revelations !!!

    – more than 250 million Chinese under quarantine
    – 1.5 million Chinese confirmed to have Corona virus
    – more than 50,000 deaths to date
    – 1200 bodies cremated daily

    • SoftStarLight February 10, 2020 at 12:03 am #

Is it really shocking and do you believe it? You just got finished criticizing me upthread for listening to what others think. And here you are doing the same thing. So are you worried its going to be a pandemic? Are would you have to rely on others to come to that conclusion?

      • Janos Skorenzy February 10, 2020 at 1:22 am #

        Nay the tale grows worse:

        https://www.infowars.com/bill-and-melinda-gates-foundation-others-predicted-up-to-65-million-deaths-via-coronavirus-in-simulation-ran-3-months-ago/

They also helped fund the development of the virus and are now funding an attempted vaccine. Too bad they didn’t wait until they had the vaccine before they released it.

They don’t need the money. What it is is an attempt by the Elite to quicken the pace of Globalization, crisis equaling opportunity. A vaccine might have negated the crisis aspect so that was a non starter I’m afraid.

        • Cargill February 10, 2020 at 4:21 am #

Does anyone seriously look at “infowars” for information, let alone cite them on a public forum? It is nothing but a butter factory for mad conspiracy theories and convenient nut-fudge narratives. Well I never!

          But carry on.

          • Nightowl February 10, 2020 at 8:55 am #

It is always amusing when fringe sources like Infowars are attacked for falsehoods, yet when reporting on your nutbar Putin conspiracies, they were more accurate than the MSM.

I realize this is cause for great embarassment.

Yes, I have heard about the Gates’ potential involvement in this whole thing and I do think it is quite plausible. It does make a lot of sense after all. Globalization is losing its shine and appeal and so what would make it suddenly more attractive? A global pandemic that requires governments around the world to join in their efforts to stop the evil disease. And once the disease is stopped global governance looks like an amazing thing. How sinister and scary if true. It would go to show the depths of depravity these types are willing to go to for power and influence.

I believe my eyes. The videos on YouTube from China’s empty cities and streets are massively apocalyptic. I definitely don’t believe anything the Chinese media is saying, neither do I believe anything “our” lying media says. They both are pathological liars and propagandists with ZERO credibility. I don’t know how credible this Chinese guy is, but he is a billionaire for a reason, they usually have good intelligence sources. But, of-coarse, he could be a liar, as most all Chinese in my experience are.

What are the odds a Harvard scientist warns about new genetic manipulation and that Harvard’s Chemistry head is charged with lying about China ties and is now in custody for receiving 50k/month and $1.5 mil+ to run a lab in FSCKING WUHAN?

          NOTHING is by accident.
          NOTHING is coincidence.
          EVERYTHING is planned.

          • SoftStarLight February 10, 2020 at 9:32 am #

I basically do agree with you. I was just giving you a hard time. The only thing I have wondered about is whether it was for sure planned (if it did leak out of the lab in fact) or if it was accidentally released. Some things I think can be accidents. Of course the stakes go up really high when you are playing around with viruses.

It’s weird: Everyone just takes off their surgical mask when they arrive at the US airports from Hong Kong and China, and there are almost no public health prevention measures in place in the US airports. People seem to pretend that the virus just stops at the US border. Weird….

The Mainstream Media now is almost useless as a means to inform the public.

Trump announced ostensibly harsh public health measures to be taken at US airports targeting foreigners arriving from China. But it looks like the US Federal Bureaucracy just farted them off either out of bureaucratic sloth and apathetic malaise, or because they hate Trump, or both?

      • SoftStarLight February 10, 2020 at 9:37 am #

China, as monstrous as they are over there, are a disciplined society. And you even see examples of societal breakdown in China with people shown fighting with authorities over wearing masks, etc. Can you imagine if it gets really real here in the US with the virus? These undisciplined clowns are going to be a real nightmare I think. There will also be heroes. I hope the heroes will be the leaders once the dust settles and the pandemic is over.

        • Majella February 12, 2020 at 2:01 am #

I know a doctor in the US who is a “GP”. She once told me that when she was practicing medicine that she always had a few patients who would always call her up early in the morning hysterical thinking that they were going to die. These people are called “Hypochondriacs”. I wonder what percentage of people are “Hypochondriacs”? I once knew an American woman in California who was a hypochondriac. She had her breasts cut off because she was afraid that she might get cancer in the future. The woman was nuts. Many people may freak out with this virus? They could literally just flood the hospitals like a tidal wave? There are only 1 million hospital beds in the US.

    • SoftStarLight February 10, 2020 at 9:39 am #

“There are only 1 million hospital beds in the US.” Bingo! And many of them are already filled with patients. I keep hearing about how our wonderful medical system can definitely handle this virus. I hope the contingency plans are being thoroughly reviewed and updated frequently.

Have you seen the videos of the free clinics set up in empty Sears buildings, giving free healthcare to the working poor in many flyover states, for a weekend every few months or so? The great American healthcare system can’t even handle the current day-to-day needs of its own downtrodden people.
