After Commander-in-Chief (ahem) “Joe Biden” demonstrated our ability to shoot down a Chinese spy balloon leisurely wandering the jet stream clear across North America, he loosed the Air Force on every other menacing aerial object hovering in our sovereign skies and… Ira Tonitrus… mission accomplished! It took the President another week to admit sheepishly that the three other targets were “most likely balloons tied to private companies, recreation or research institutions,” not alien invaders from another galaxy, as regime spoxes hinted and the news media played-up for days. Note to America’s hot air ballooning community for the upcoming spring launch season: be very afraid!
If Russia was impressed by the successful balloon op, it didn’t offer any comment. Russia was busy neutralizing America’s pet proxy palooka, sad-sack Ukraine, sent into the ring to soften-up Russia for a revolution aimed at overthrowing the wicked Vlad Putin — at least according to our real Secretary of State (and Ukraine war show-runner), Victoria Nuland, in remarks this week to the Carnegie Endowment, a DC think tank.
Speaking of tanks, our NATO allies are getting cold feet about sending those Leopard-2 war wagons into the Ukraine cauldron. Something about it had a discouraging act-of-war odor, as, by the way, did blowing up the Nord Stream gas pipelines, alleged by veteran reporter Seymour Hersh — though that caper was actually against NATO member and supposed US ally, Germany. WTF? Are the doings in Western Civ getting a little too complex for comfort?
Anyway, it turns out that the thirty-one Abrams tanks America promised to Ukraine have yet to be bolted together at the tank factory. It’s a special order, you see, because we don’t want to send the latest models built with super-high-tech armor that the Russians might capture and learn from… so Mr. Zelensky will just have to cool his jets waiting on delivery, say, around Christmas time… if he’s not singing Izprezhdi Vika somewhere in Broward County, Florida, by then.
The biggest problem Russia has in resolving this conflict on its border, is doing it in a way that does not drive “JB” and his posse of war-mongers so batshit crazy that they resort to a nukes-flying, world-ending, Thelma-and-Louise type denouement. In effect, America put a bomb on Russia’s front porch and now Russia has to carefully defuse the darn thing. The prank itself was just the last in a long line of foolish American military escapades that have ended in humiliation for us, most recently the Afghan fiasco. At best, this one in Ukraine — which we started in 2014 — is on-track to sink NATO, plunge Europe into cold and darkness, and put the USA out of business.
In the meantime, America is rapidly disintegrating on the home front. Is it attempted suicide or murder? It’s a little hard to tell. Things are blowing up from sea to shining sea — food processing facilities, giant chicken barns, regional electric grids, oil refineries. The latest, of course, is a chemical spill from the Norfolk-Southern train wreck in East Palestine, Ohio, set ablaze by a conclave of government officials purportedly to keep the toxic liquids from seeping into the Ohio River watershed and beyond. Of course, in the dithering prior to lighting it up, enough vinyl chloride leached into streams feeding the big river to kill countless fish. And then torching the remaining chemical pools sent up a mushroom cloud of dioxin and other poisons that killed wildlife, pets, and chickens in the vicinity before the evil miasma wafted eastward on the wind to the densely-populated Atlantic coast.
One has to wonder whether an army of saboteurs is on the loose across the land. Considering the border with Mexico is wide open, why wouldn’t America’s adversaries send whole wrecking crews over here to mess with our infrastructure? There’s no question that people from all over the planet have been sneaking across the Rio Grande. Surely some of them are on a mission. America is filled with “soft” targets, things unguarded and indefensible — not least, tens of thousands of miles of railroad track. Of all the reasons to be unnerved by “Joe Biden’s” open border policy, this one is the least discussed, even in the alt-media. But it seems like a no-brainer for nefarious interests who might want to bamboozle and disable us.
The sad truth of this moment in history is that the USA has too much going sideways with our own business at home now to be dabbling in any foreign misadventures — and we couldn’t have picked a worse place than Ukraine to do it. The sheer logistics are implausible. The geography is lethally unfavorable. The place has been inarguably within Russia’s sphere of influence for centuries and Russia has every intention of pacifying the joint at all costs. Peace talks are apparently out of the question for our leaders. Something’s got to give, and that something is probably Western Civ’s financial system. It’s primed to blow anyway, and when it does, we’ll have other things to think about.

Once again Jim, your podcast with CJ Hopkins was excellent as we were given a glimpse of the European opinion of the war crimes that we are perpetrating as the World’s Biggest Bully. Yes, the Germans were totally de-balled after WWII and on 911 all of the world was made aware of what America will do, even to it’s own people. A friend who was stranded in Berlin for a week back then experienced first hand what the Europeans knew and what America was distracted from.
An idea that is growing more and more apparent to many of us is that with all of the assaults upon humanity being foisted upon us all, many forces are going out of their way to accentuate to the world the fact that those who rule America are totally corrupt and completely evil. I believe that this campaign is aimed at uniting the rest of the world against US(A), and that once the internal decay within our nation reaches critical mass, we will be brought down not only by our enemies, but by ourselves without firing a shot.
Of course, I could be wrong and the rest of the world may very well get together and nuke our sorry asses, but seeing how well we are destroying ourselves, why waste the ordinance.

One bright note, Walter- I don’t pay too much attention to Seymour Hersh and don’t know what he’s been doing all this time; but whatever he was doing or wherever he’s been, he seems to have jumped back in to the thick of things with both feet now.
That expose of what was obvious about the Russian pipelines and our government isn’t just a one-off, he’s been busy and there is more to come.

There were a couple things he got wrong.

In a fairer world, Victoria Nuland would have been brought before the World Court and tried for promoting the overthrow of an elected foreign government in 2014. Who was Hitler? I read the name various places these days. I like tofu, fresh, made from organically grown Indiana soybeans, which makes the richest hot soymilk. I have some great recipes if anyone is interested. The energy return on energy invested in growing soybeans is worth looking into, because they are a legume, easy to harvest, process, and store. As a prepper, you would need about 100 lb sack per adult per year, but you need a vit D supplement. If you combine with grain, nuts and dairy, you get all the amino acids you need for complete protein absorption. Besides, no one is going to come and steal your soybeans, at least not in America. Most of the Indiana crop goes to China, though the Japanese and Koreans want the Organically grown, now that the results of eating the industrial agriculture GMO crops are know to affect the American consumers. So yeah, more for me if you have a bias. I’ll just further point out for the record, industrial agriculture uses more toxins than were released in the Ohio trainwreck, it just just spreads them out thinly on your food, and the food that is fed to industrial beef lots and pig lots and chicken factories, along with cipro which promotes faster growing bigger stock. These toxins accumulate in the meat you get from the megafoodmart for less than your local traditional farmer who uses the old field rotation system to maintain and add to soil – farm – human health. Without such a beneficial cycle, how can all the malaise and weakened immune systems cope with all the toxins of consumer convenience, let alone the similarly produced viruses and industrially produced snakeoil remedies? Seems like Jim connected those dots a long time ago, but I haven’t heard them for awhile. IDK, maybe he never did. Or maybe he never had handmade handgrown fresh hot soymilk.

Sam Houston, one of the founders of Houston Tx, once lived in an obscure Eastern TN town near what’s now the Smokies National Park. The Cherokee Indian nation was established not too far away near shores of the Little TN river, and young Sam at age 16 left home because he was tired and bored with working in a general store. He left and joined the Cherokee Indian nation and became a citizen of the Cherokees with his own name – “The Raven”. Apparently when he showed up out of the blue and wanted to join, they accepted him right away.

During the Cold War with the USSR, one of the great concerns was that of sleeper cells set up in our USA open society. I am 33 miles from the disaster in Ohio. The people do not understand why Brad Pitt and Sean Penn and the Davos crowd didn’t all fly here in their private jets to help out. I posted an amren article about the fall of Argentina due to open borders. He didn’t dispute it, but he’s still not for the historical America. The historical America was White. @Ron, I believe those are relatively modern concepts that people – particularly nomadic people – just didn’t have then. The real challenge in trying to understand history is that it’s not just about events, but is more about the world view of people living at the time. It’s hard for us to look through their eyes, but we can only make sense of the past if we have the imagination and empathy to do so.
What you’re describing is what humans have always done. Those who are stronger and/or smarter subjugate and conquer those who aren’t. No one was apologetic about it before the modern era, no one made reparations or attempts to placate the losers; they killed or enslaved them.
I think it’s remarkable that we’ve reached the point where we recognize it’s wrong to prey upon the weak and to take what belongs to others if they can’t defend it. But it’s a modern concept that really began, more or less, with the repudiation of slavery. I’d like to see someone celebrating the progress we’ve made rather than projecting our views onto our ancestors and then blaming them for their hypocrisy in not upholding them.

@Jarek, if there is one thing among the many offences at present that angers me above all others, it’s the hypocritical ranting of people like Buttigieg who berate white men having jobs in construction while himself holding a job that he could bow out of in favor of the race he prefers. Most of us would certainly support him in doing so, since it’s not humanly possible that anyone could do a worse job at it than he is.
Likewise, the bleating about socialism by rich people who are in no way being prevented from redistributing their wealth according to their beliefs – except that those beliefs are for us, not for them.
The cluelessness that’s required to stand before the world and proclaim that people like yourself should not hold the position that you yourself hold, while simultaneously refusing to step aside, beggars belief.

I was thinking of those plans for us this morning, when I woke up to darkening skies and started hearing the sound of thunder off in the distance.
It reminded me of the times long ago, when access to automobiles was not like it is now, there were still families with one car or even no car, and a portion of adult women had never learned to drive.
Times when I had to be somewhere, and there was unexpected bad weather. Ever tried walking somewhere during a downpour. If it is windy or thundering, an umbrella does you no good.
It’s worse than a snowstorm, because during a big enough storm, they start canceling things, but nobody cancels anything just because there are people who don’t have a car to get them where they are going, warm and dry.
Bicycles are out, that’s worse than walking.
Buses? Even if your destination is on a bus route, you will be late, because the bus stops and starts more, picking up more passengers. You will be drenched too, and you will have nearly suffocated inside the crowded steamy bus.
A taxi? Call a taxi on a rainy day and wait an hour for it to show, if it even does, and if you can afford it.
Ah, the good old days.
Back in the 70’s as a wanna be hippie/back to earth sorta guy I was into backpacking and decided to try hiking the Appalachian Trail. I was among the vast majority of hikers that quit after a month or two, living outdoors and hiking tough terrain wasn’t all the fun I imagined it to be. Maybe it was due to not having any recreational drugs on the trip. One of the more memorable experiences the AT hiker has is summer severe thunderstorms on mountain ridges. You’ve got incoming lightning bolts hitting all over the place because you are on high exposed ridges with the wind blowing like crazy and you are being drenched and can hardly see where you are going. It’s like being in a war zone with one lightning bomb after another blowing up right in front of you. There’s no place to hide. You’ll be drenched, and no taxis will be available.
Bicycles are better than walking. But they don’t allow mountain bikes or dirt bikes on the AT as far as I know.

Yeah Jarek, I quit hiking. As I was going along, the unpleasant experiences were getting more and more repetitive, like the pains, blisters, insect stings and bites, finding mouse poop in my food, shitting in the woods all the time, planning my life around obscure country stores listed in my guidebooks. and last but not least, being dirty and stinky all the time. You’re an AT hiker if you’ve spent time sitting around in dirty laundromats and wearing a dirty t shirt and shorts. Only half the machines are working and you’ll notice people casting glances your way as you load foul and stained clothing into the machine. You’ll be entirely focused on the neat sensation of putting on a clean dry pair of underwear. You’ll be feeling clean and refreshed because a while back you stripped down and jumped into a small river with a bar of soap to get cleaned for your appearance in the little rural mountain town.
A hazard is hooking up with various other groups on the trail that might have different objectives and goals.
My trip got cancelled after I joined a hiking group from a university that were out backpacking for just a week and then were planning on attending an outdoor rock festival. They were gonna hitchhike to the event, and figured it would be easier because lots of other hipsters would be driving in the same general direction. And besides, this was in an era when hitching rides wasn’t difficult and having long hair and hippie appearance didn’t necessarily keep you from getting rides. I had my kitchen and bedroom on my back, and decided that camping at a big rock fest sounded like a lot more fun than the AT. I was just going to take a break. Then ended up hitch hiking home instead of heading back to the trail.

YouTube is full of channels documenting hikers gone missing, mostly in the west, but some on the AP, in the White Mountains, and in the Maine Woods. Seemingly there are hundreds, maybe thousands. They were out for a day hike, they were hunting in Alaska, they were walking the Pacific Trail, communing with nature in Yosemite… all of them, “NEVER TO BE SEEN AGAIN”.

The National Parks are very dangerous and it’s illegal to carry a firearm. Park Rangers are heavily armed cops. If they catch you with one, you’ll be pulling hard time.

I do some hiking with my husband in national parks. And we would never go out without at least one gun, several clips, and our concealed carry permits. I don’t care what the rules are. We’ve never had a problem. We have occasionally come across drunk hikers. But the problem with running into trouble is there is no one to help you. A lot of the time you don’t even have cell service. I’ve just watched too many true crime shows, unfortunately.
The national parks are quite safe compared to the national forests, state forests, and other public access areas. In the Smokies backcountry you are much more likely to encounter a bear wanting to mug you for food – than you are to encounter a hazardous human. Forget about having a pistol. Shooting a bear with a firearm in the park will put you in a federal prison real quick. And if you are unwilling to take a chance at meeting a black bear face to face then maybe you should stay home or at least stay off the back country trails.
That being said, there have also been mysterious disappearances of people in the Smokies park. Somebody goes hiking and vanishes without a trace. Hundreds and hundreds of people including park authorities look for a body for months on end and can’t find a single scrap. Nothing. Maybe they got picked up by one a them thar UFO’s everbody’s a talkin’ about right now?

I did a great deal of long – distance walking in my time.
Nothing — save one thing — that you described I had either already encountered , or already envisioned.
For example , if you propose to walk from Georgia to Maine through the woods then you best be comfortable with absolute filth.
Typically , you will get a ” bath ” when it rains heavy.
If you are not OK with an extreme degree of filth , then walking from Georgia to Maine through the woods is probably a very bad idea.
The most important things , are the things they NEVER put in movies.
The one thing you mentioned that I did NOT think of was the electrical storms.
Oddly , because I live in the mountains.
Down in the flat lands the advice to seek shelter in electrical storms seems pretty supercilious , because unless you are standing in the middle of a golf course in a suit of armor , lightning always strikes a mile away.
In the flat lands you never see ground zero for a lightning strike , the same way you never see the end of the rainbow.
But , for some reason , in the mountains it is a very different story.
As you described , electrical storms in the mountains are like artillery barrages.
Since moving to the mountains I have seen lightning strike 50 yards away or less so many times I have lost count.
In the mountains you seek shelter as soon as you hear the thunder , because you learn that what is soon coming after the thunder is something really , really , frightening.
I suppose if you were in the woods and shelter simply wasn’t available you might do what soldiers do in war in the same circumstances in artillery barrages ;
Throw yourself flat on the ground , hug the earth as closely as possible , and pray hard that you don’t get a direct strike.

Now speaking of mysterious disappearances in the Smokies ;
Maybe some of them are more mundane than sinister.
When on the trail in the Southern Appalachians did you notice those signs that say things like ;
STAY ON THE TRAIL.
DO NOT LEAVE THE TRAIL.
CROSS – COUNTRY HIKING IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED.
In this case the warnings are not bullshit.
When looked at from a distance , and with the cover of thick foliage , the landscape looks fairly even , regular , and predictable.
But it is an optical illusion .
The mountains are absolutely honeycombed with cliffs , shear drop – offs , Grand Canyon – like crevice’s , and places where solid granite suddenly gives way to sand – like shale on the edges of these drop – offs.
So you are ten feet away from the cliff , but when you step on that sand – like shale you can go sliding 12 feet.
All of this is bad enough , but in the warmer months , which is nine months of the year , the vegatation in the mountains is as thick as in any tropical jungle.
So you can be ten feet from a hundred foot drop – off and NOT SEE it.
So , yeah , you can safely go cross – country , off – trail . But if you value your hide at all , doing so can easily mean it takes 6 hours to go one mile.
In that case the sort of walking you are doing is like an 80 year old woman with a walker going from the bedroom to the kitchen. You are inching along , it’s like microscope work.
As for finding bodies — I suspect in many cases the searchers stood in the middle of the trail and hollered , ” Bob ! ” and told the reporters and the documentary makers that they searched , but leave out the realistic details like ;

Under these circumstances , we could search for the body for a hundred years.
With hiking trails people get the impression of raw , unspoiled , unregulated nature , and they run with that impression .
The reality is that the vast majority of hiking trails in the mountains have been meticulously mapped out by many people over many years and are subsequently maintained meticulously likewise by teams of people.
Your typical mountain hiking trail is actually anything but natural.
It is every bit as much a man – made creation as is the black top super highway.
It merely LOOKS rustic.
Well said, Kesa. Hardly anybody knows the woods because hardly anybody goes in them. Hiking is just more urbanism. Of course animals have their own trails. They’re people too and want to save energy as well.
If you’re hiding out – say a hundred yards from the Appalachian Trail, you might as well be miles. Eat the roadkill left behind. Raid their shelters! But be careful about your own campsite. Don’t keep going back to it the same way. Don’t create a trail. People who know their business will notice that.
This is how I grew up, Beryl. I remember that world well. We had to often just accept that something we wanted or even needed to do was simply not possible. On the other hand, we were more dependent on each other. In a small, rural community that’s a good thing. In retrospect, those relationships were so much richer than we can easily make now.
I particularly cherish memories of our visits as kids to the old people who lived nearby. We’d as readily knock on their doors as we did on the doors of kids we played with. They’d sit us at the kitchen table, feed us, we’d chat and gossip, and we’d often help them with chores – take out the trash, help to get the hay bales in the barn, whatever they asked us to do. Most kids now won’t have any such memories, and they’re to be pitied.
We didn’t have remotes in my day. We had to walk six feet, barefoot, thru two inches of plush carpet.

If we consider the physical USA and its people as simply another vassal comparable to Germany, Japan et al, then the open border and threats to both infrastructure and existing domestic society fit within the construct of a nationless, global security superstructure.
Such an organized force would only need military bases positioned in key strategic areas, full spectrum media/security/political dominance, control of actual physical resources and both land and sea based shipping routes, and of course complete control over a global reserve financial system unaffected by debt or commodity constraints.

Healthcare breakdown:
I generally stay in red states, where for various reasons I’ve been to a few hospitals in the last 2 years and things function OK.
In comparison, last week I was with 2 doctors from Oregon. One is an ER doctor who told me that on a weekly basis, she has to sell someone that they are going to die – because their condition is treatable if addressed within several days, but there is no place for them to go be treated so they are going to die.
I found this hard to believe but here is the explanation:
– So many nurses were fired for non-vaccination or quit from exhaustion in the Pac Northwest that there is a nursing shortage.
– So many nurses became traveling solo nurses for big premiums during Covid that they were being paid $125 an hour and more – yes, a nurse making $250,000 a year or more – and they socked away money so can take time off. Even less nurses.
– The hospitals and doctor practices aren’t going to pay $250,000 and more a year. Actually, many doctors in the PacNW make that or less (general practitioners and cardiologists for example don’t make big bucks).
– Nurses have unions that strictly limit the nurse/patient ratio. Often those ratios are just 4 to 1 or even 2 to 1 for a high care ward. The nurses’ unions don’t deviate from those ratios.
– ERs stabilize people, but don’t often actually make surgeries like taking out a brain tumor – an ER doc doesn’t have such training despite what we see on TV – and so if there is not enough nurses at hospital X to cover the patient, then the patient has to be sent elsewhere. My friend would call some two dozens hospitals around OR, WA, ID, and come up blank because there are no spots. So the patient had nowhere to go and dies.
My ER doctor friend became so exhausted by seeing people die needlessly that they switched this year to a home health job. So, that’s another doctor gone.
The other doctor friend is a GP. He says the #1 killer of his patients is that they are too fat. He gives them this golden advice: “Never buy bigger pants.”
Really helpful advice, to someone suffering from a metabolic disorder that science hasn’t gotten around to addressing because for one thing, it interfered with the politicized dietary advice they have been pushing for decades.
People did not just up and decide to start stuffing themselves silly to the point where they were morbidly obese.
People tell me it is a simple matter of calories consumed versus calories expended.
Okay, since a calorie is a thermal unit, here’s an analogy from my own home.
A few years back, I quit getting heat from my radiators. I had electricity, I had the gas turned on, I had plenty of hot water, but the boiler wasn’t doing its job.
As it turned out, there was a faulty thermocouple.
So, “calories” in, but nothing expended.
What is the faulty “thermocouple” in these peoples’ metabolisms?
Do not forget, back in the 1980s bariatric ‘science’ was telling people that it made a difference what ‘kind’ of calorie you ate.
Yes, they were really saying that.
Beryl, the fact that “experts” have completely contradicted their previous advice every few years for the last thirty years or so tells me that they have no idea and are just making it up.
A few of my own observations:
– My niece, a 90 pound woman, has always eaten twice the amount of anyone else in our family. When we’d all finished at the dinner table, she’d eat everything that was left. A while back, I bumped into her at a mini mall, where she was walking along with a large ice cream cone in one hand. She eats all day, mostly high calorie food.
– I, on the other hand, kept my weight at 115 pounds for years by eating nothing but lunch – a large salad, with sliced hard boiled eggs and cut up grilled chicken. I was hungry all the time, and my stomach growled so loudly that I disturbed my co-workers. Eventually I gave up and let my weight rise to 135, but have to watch every bite to keep it there.
– Some people seem to have a (low) set point that they remain at no matter what they eat.
– Other people have a set point too, but it’s too high. You can get below that set point by starving yourself but your body makes a concerted effort to get back up to it once again – which is why I have to starve for a week to get rid of the 7 pounds I put on if I eat out once at the local diner.
I don’t think we understand metabolism at all. I suspect that all the junk we put into food plays a role, and it’s hard to avoid because it’s at every level of production.
I suspect that there is some idea what is causing the sharp increase in the number of people with faulty metabolisms, and they don’t want to go there.
I suspect that is true of the sharp increase of people with autism too.
If you go to a hospital, even with “cadillac” insurance, they will offer you treatment for the things they know how to treat, and blame you for presenting with something they don’t understand.
I suspect that there is something wrong with the food as well, and no it isn’t sugar. When they start blaming sugar and then name foods that do not contain sugar, such as soda, that tells me that they are trying to cover something up.
For the record, I am overweight, but nowhere near obese. I have watched too many people battle obesity and fail, to believe anymore that it’s as simple as cutting out snacks and smaller portions.

It’s probably the reason some of the refugees showing up here after World War II managed to be fat, when they really didn’t have enough food and had to scrounge for whatever they could get.
One thing that has surprised me in some of the current literature is that it is possible to be obese and malnourished at the same time. Today it is largely found in poor people.
It remarkable the lengths to which fat people will go to blame others for their problem. Believe me, I’ve seen it first hand.

But I fidget all the time.
We used to eat at McDonald’s and my parents would send my sister and I up to get the food. There was one line for french fries and one line for hamburgers, so we each stood in a line.
My mom said that she would watch us and I would be bouncing around and fidgeting, but my sister would stand there calmly. My sister isn’t overweight, but she doesn’t eat as much as I do.
I don’t go on diets. I just eat what’s healthy, as much as I want.
Except I don’t eat meat, even though I love the taste. I don’t like animal abuse, so I just refuse to eat meat any more.
And yeah, no processed foods or snacks in a package.
The fat is beautiful campaign. Women want to think they are beautiful when they are hideous.
Fat isn’t beautiful, it’s dangerous – which is why I’ve struggled to avoid it all my life, mostly with success. I’ve tried every diet, and every exercise regime known to humanity, but there’s actually only one thing that allows me to keep my weight down and that’s eating one small meal a day. That’s it.
I’m not one to make excuses, but my observation is that how the body processes fuel differs greatly from one person to another. I’ve observed this in families, where some eat junk food constantly and maintain their weight with no exercise, and others pack it on while eating little. We do have different bodies, and evolution plays a role. If I take an aspirin for any ordinary pain, it goes away in a half hour. Others in my family have no response to aspirin at all.
Then again, there’s a big difference between being on the chubby side – ten or fifteen pounds overweight from time to time – and being one of the 400 pound whales we see about us at present. That’s not a bit of indulgence – that takes some serious eating!
Who would have done better in the Ice Age? Those who could put on some fat against the cold and who didn’t have such a super high metabolism as your niece does.
The fat acceptance campaign is to make people stop asking questions about what is ruining people’s metabolisms.

Some probably remember 21 years ago, two snipers sent the Washington DC area into a panic as they killed a total of 10 people of the course of three weeks.

Actually, I believe the report about the missile missing the balloon was UFO #2 when an ANG F-16 chose an AIM-7 or AIM-9 as opposed to quick squeeze on the 20mm due a combination of poor atmospheric conditions (limited sunlight and haze) and relative size and speed of the target making a gun-run impractical (low Pk).
It’s unlikely that the AIM-9 was used because the UFO was quite cold-soaked without any substantial temperature differential to lock-on to.
As for the Sparrow, locking-on and remaining locked-on to an inert, stationary target at altitude with a radar cross section of 3 feet while flying at Mach .8 has a low Pk as well.
Hence, the miss.
I hope the next time the USAF is tasked with taking out an escaped birthday balloon that they send a B-17. Much higher Pk with that platform against these s/ heinous violations of sovereign airspace. /s

For a good example of the “malaise” effecting the disintegration of our country, look no further than the video of those five cops beating that poor kid to death in Memphis.
They actually stood him up so the next cop could land a square blow, on “target”, to nose or jaw. Sickening but that’s “America” now.

My Governor, Shapiro hasn’t figured out that Western PA is part of his Commonwealth. Our local Federal Representative was proud to re-name our post office for a civil war veteran. America no longer is a union of people, it has no national identity. No wonder no one cares about its health.
America is rapidly approaching its collapse, which will make it dissolve. Think about that. What does the USA have to hold it together? Two pieces of paper that the world and its own Deep State would like to see burned up? Not hardly.

Yuri, you reminded me of my years of living in an Osaka suburb, when I’d go running through the streets in the early morning. If it was before six a.m. I could jog down to the local wet market and catch the lady compressing the milk out of steamed soybeans. The first time I popped by to purchase a glass of hot fresh soy milk she was a bit startled (after 150 years of being more-or-less “open” to the West, average Japanese are still unsettled by hairy foreign bodies) but soon she knew the drill when she saw me coming.

When I was a little kid in school our classrooms were filled with White, Black, and Latino students. And having that was a great education all by itself.

When I speak of Syria, it is in part in the sense of it being ‘strategic’, so not just Syria or its oil per se. Obviously there’re some messy and war-torn geopolitical overlap/dug-ins that need some attention.

It is absolutely wrong for the US to steal Syria’s oil.
It was wrong of the US to “fan the flames” against Assad, and foment a civil war that has ruined the country.
All this because Assad would not kowtow to the US; because he is friends with Russia and Iran, two countries that have not done anything to the US.
Without Islamist Erdogan of Turkey to provide support to the Islamist rebels, the war would have ended sooner. And Turkey would also have fewer Syrian refugees. (Turkey is expansionist, and the prospect of Islamists Arabs grabbing a chunk of Syria and making it a de facto part, or better yet, de jure part, of Turkey appeals to many Turkish politicos, both establishment and not, as they dream of recreating the Ottoman Empire at the expense of Syria, Armenia, and Greece)
Actually, from where I sit (occasionally Greece), Erdogan is the lesser of the evils, compared to the (former establishment) opposition, who are often attacking him for being too “soft”.
But Turkey has much to atone for, from well before Russia entered the Ukraine. I think Turkey has adeptly played both sides (Turkey is in NATO, but trades with Russia, even as it supplied drones to Ukraine). Because it suits THEIR purposes, the Erdogan government is one of the few to state this fact:
the war in Ukraine continues in large part because people in the West want it to continue, by torpedoing negotiations, and by pouring arms in Ukraine.
That said, modern Turkey has been a criminal state since 1940. They have harassed the “protected” Greek minority from 300,000 to less than 10, maybe 5,000. They invaded Cyprus, killing 5,000 people and displacing 200,000. They are constantly threatening “NATO” ally Greece. Before modern Turkey, the Turks have the distinction of the modern world’s first genocide, which they refuse to acknowledge. They also embarked on epic ethnic cleansing, including burning the city of Smyrna in 1922.
So, Turkey not buying 100% into the the US/West BS about Russia, does not make Turkey “good guys”, by any means.
And I believe that this awful war in the Ukraine, a war for which the US government is mostly responsible, will have unanticipated consequences that will affect Turkey and lead to its dissolution.
I believe the US will use every trick and technique, fair and foul, to make Erdogan change his behavior toward Russia, or to get his opponent (who is TBD!! The fractured opposition is trying to find a unity candidate. Sound familiar to any Americans?) to be elected President.
The earthquake has just made this much easier for the US to accomplish.
Turkey’s last comparable earthquake in 1999 helped elect Erdogan as PRIME MINISTER in 2003, because people where so disillusioned by the (corrupt) government’s response, many who would not vote for an Islamist did so.
Early on Erdogan did a pretty good job and was rewarded with reelection. He (rightfully) feared the Turkish deep state, and many Turks felt it was corrupt, so Erdogan leveraged his popularity, and out-maneuvered the deep state, and gradually defanged it.
In other words, Mr. Erdogan succeeded where Mr. Trump failed.
Along the way however, Erdogan revised the constitution to make the President super-powerful–and HE was elected President. He took over the judiciary.
Never a bastion of free press, Erdogan put more curbs. The current mayor of Istanbul, Ekremoglu, was just convicted of insulting an government official, 2.5 year prison sentence, for example.
So now, ERDOGAN IS THE DEEP STATE. And as the opposition, generally led by the old deep state fans the very real tragedy, for example, why did so many new building collapse? Where they to code? Why weren’t they? Were the builders friends of Erdogan’s AKP Party, Erdogan will face serious internal problems.
People hate uncertainty–from common folks, to kings. The internal fault lines in Turkey (think of Red vs Blue in the US) were already there.
Turkey will have to either re-orient itself to the Russia and the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization), a big change because Turkish industry is integrated into Europe, much like Mexico’s is to the US, and to do this it will leave have to leave NATO, or it will end it’s dalliance with Russia and the SCO.
Or, Turkey may crack up like Yugoslavia, with an American/NATO state, say the coast, and a Russian leaning state, say Kurdistan, and a rump Turkey in the middle.
The US wanted to overthrow Assad and put a pliable regime. One way to make countries “pliable” is to break them up.
This is what NATO did to Yugoslavia–it exploited the fault lines–and now you have what, 5-6 small countries, the biggest being Serbia being an “outcast” and the rest being NATO supplicants.
That’s what Victoria Nuland and the globalists like.
These delusional people think they can do that to Russia. That’s what this is all about.
No, they can’t do it to Russia. But I believe that will happen to Turkey. There are large tectonic geopolitical forces.
As for Assad, he may be a dictator, but he has been pretty fair and until the Obama Administration fanned the flames, he kept a lid on sectarian violence.

One is that it was the Kurds who actually carried out the Armenian genocide, being rewarded with the houses and land of the murdered or displaced Armenians by the Turks.

Watching the 1987 Schwarzenegger film ‘The Running Man’ on MGM+ this morning. What strikes me most about what seemed to be a rather fanciful futuristic sci-fi movie at the time, is how realistic and totally credible it appears now. The acting’s a little over the top, of course, but the basic plot of renegade persona non grata little guy squaring off against the state represented by a vainglorious celebrity TV show host doesn’t seem so farfetched at all now. Ahh-nold wasn’t a half bad actor either.
The story, by Richard Bachman (a pen name for the early Stephen King) was superb. Check it out some time.
I will. ‘The Running Man’ was followed by the original ‘Rollerball’ with James Caan, another dystopian classic. I wonder if they’re not trying to tell us something?

From the department of No I’m Not Making This Up: The Vermont State University system has announced plans to improve its libraries by getting rid of the books.
In an email, incoming president Parwinder Grewal told students and employees that the university’s libraries will move to an “all-digital” format. The university website explains, “As of July 1, 2023, these spaces will no longer provide services including circulation and physical materials.” This “enhancement” is part of a grand plan to merge Northern Vermont University, Castleton University and Vermont Technical College.
The old library buildings will be repurposed as puppy mills. (Okay, I did make that part up.)
Students, faculty members and other people who have actually been in a library, immediately objected. Biology professor Preston Garcia was quoted in the Castleton Spartan student newspaper saying, “I’m embarrassed to be associated with this university after this decision.”
The Vermont Library Association, which represents more than 300 librarians, staff and trustees, reacted with appropriate horror and dismay. In a statement, the VLA warned that the move to all-digital libraries “will hurt students, faculty, staff, and the rural communities in which the VTSU campuses are located.”
While imploring the administration to reconsider this massive act of bibliocide, the association pointed out that digital materials cost more than print materials, involve complex licenses and limit who can use the resources.
“We all saw first-hand the difficulties students at all levels experienced during the pandemic, and building back strong communities should be a priority,” the VLA said. “This proposal threatens the intellectual life of the campuses and the communities they serve.”
The university’s plan also runs counter to studies on how most students learn. Research indicates that people retain more information and demonstrate better comprehension when they use print texts. And early predictions about the death of the bound book were retired years ago when e-book sales plateaued. The science and the market are clear: We need and we like physical books.
But the university claims, “This was a data-driven decision,” which sounds more persuasive if you imagine it being said in the voice of the Borg Queen.
Since the announcement of the proposed change to the libraries – and another one involving the athletic programs – three unions, representing more than 1,000 faculty and staff members, have voted “no confidence” in the university leadership, according to the Manchester Journal.
As the outrage continues to swell, administrators have presented a less ethereal future for their libraries. Study spaces will be enhanced and library services will remain, along with some in-person librarians. Grewal told Inside Higher Ed that tens of thousands of books might be kept at each library, to be determined in negotiations with faculty.
Perhaps Grewal is learning what Umberto Eco observed years ago: “The book is like the spoon, scissors, the hammer, the wheel. Once invented, it cannot be improved.”

We live in an age of digital information available to all. To survive, brick and mortar libraries have chosen to reinvent themselves as Temples of Wokism. Bad choice , think voter defunding.
The very best librarian story I ever heard was from a relative who went to the same high school I did, but he served his time in high school in the 30’s and not the 60’s as I did. There were always a few terribly sour and dour spinsters on the teaching staff at high schools everywhere. Such was the librarian of my high school in the 30’s. The woman never strayed from her spot as librarian until her retirement. She was constantly aware of the slightest sound in the big room, she was like a watchdog. And if you started talking to the person next to you at your assigned table, she’d be on you in a flash going sssssshhhhhhhhhhhh! Puffing around like an old goose in a barnyard.
There was to be silence in there so the serious nerd students studying for college wouldn’t be distracted. What happened in the class of ’32 or so was the school had been specially blessed with a class clown who was also an excellent ventriloquist and if I remember correctly amateur stage magician. This dude pulled off a series of beyond hilarious pranks on the young spinster librarian by throwing his voice around in the library and watching the poor lady running around all over the place, trying to sniff out a trail and always ending up barking upwards at the wrong tree.
Of course, she eventually found out who was pulling this prank on her and getting the entire room in an uproar. But it seems it took a long while for her to learn there was a performer in the room. Maybe other teachers informed her as to who the person was that was most likely to be the trouble maker.
I would also suggest that all collegiate in person athletics programs be eliminated. There is no reason that all the sports cannot be played over the internet as video games. Only fair as it would allow a stumpy 4’11’ basement dwelling dweeb to be the all star center MVP for the March Madness BS which is approaching. Think of the greenhouse gases saved by shutting down all those stadiums and the spectator and team travel involved. Also NASCAR starts this weekend.When are they going all EV’s? The silence at the track will be deafening. Loudest sound heard will be the crunch of cheez doodles.

I have heard people say that they think the induced egg shortage is an intentional attempt to reduce the amount of available protein in the food supply. Since I logged in to say this, I’ll take the opportunity to present something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. Events are doubtlessly accelerating. There’s a crescendo, a hailstorm of black swans, mindfucks and mass derangement. Chaff and propaganda, smoke and mirrors around real changes. A massive energy crisis could be the change, meaning we’re stuck where we are, stuck with those around us. Do we really know them? We know what they’ve been saying while the soda pop, the cheetos and the gasoline still flow freely, but knowing someone during the good times, the fat years, is not a complete form of knowledge.
There’s this guy. He’s very good at fixing things. A useful skill. He’s also an alcoholic. A problem. At present, he can get things done and fixed, because he has a few good hours during the first half of the daily 18 pack. What if the beer is not there? Because of his sickness, he won’t be able to do anything other than searching for alcohol. Unless he can quit cold turkey, but that’s unlikely – I know him.
Asset? Liability? Somewhere in between? A friend becoming a mortal danger? A man I thought I knew but I didn’t? What if he knows of, or suspects the existence of that special bottle of Cognac I’ve been saving for a special occasion? Would he kill for it? Should I have a case of something, to dole it out, reward him for being useful? But after that case is gone, what then? Will he believe me when I tell him I have no more as he points his Glock at me? There was footage in one of the recent UK Column news episodes of White Helmets ‘lifting a Syrian child out of the rubble where he was buried’. I’d give you the link but I can’t remember which day it was. It’s old footage now, but the child is basically supposed to have been buried for a time under the rubble and dust of a collapsed building. They bring him out, not remotely traumatised but as happy as Larry, smiling, without a mark on him and not even a speck of dust. Around 1000 years ago a monolithic and universal Roman Church split into two pieces, Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox. As individuals, our deaths, our mortality, may be important, perhaps even crucial or built into the very fabric of nature because, if we didn’t die or ‘soon enough’, and our births remained the same, we’d likely overrun the planet in mere months or a few years at the most and therefore threaten our very existence.
Now I’ve heard, as I imagine you have, of the idea of space-faring civilizations and how, if they existed, they’d likely (have already) colonize(d) the entire galaxy in a matter of a few million, hundreds of millions or maybe, to be conservative, a billion years. This would still seem within a short time-frame compared with how long the universe has existed…
But here’s the thing and it’s related, as you may have already guessed, to the idea of overrunning the planet, but in this case applied to the idea of overrunning the galaxy or maybe even the local universe.
In other words, perhaps, the death of a civilization may be comparable and as important/crucial/natural to the death of an individual, so as not to overrun the galaxy.

hm – There is a difference between super-attractive types (male or female) best ignored for several obvious reasons and people that are attractive to you. I had a younger colleague who was considered – and who definitely considered herself – more than averagely attractive. She was genuinely shocked to find herself alone in her 50s, never married. We’ve lost nearly every single war we’ve fought, ignoring what happened in the 1860’s when we most famously defeated ourselves and started construction of the American Empire. This empire is a collection of 50 states or so held together by military force ever since 1865. The primary “glue” holding it all together now is the dollar. Once it’s gone the empire vanishes and is replaced for a while by utter social chaos until the states can get together and construct a new living arrangement here that has no central government.
I’m in favor of reinstating the draft too. Male and female, no exemptions.

Here I go again, bringing up the topic of the differences between monarchies and republics/democracies.
In feudal Europe, if you had the misfortune to be a male and born into a blue blood family, you’d be thrust into the adult world as early as age 6. If you were a baron’s son, your dad would have a group of knights under his control and you would NOT be exempt from military training. Not only that, but you were expected to be a participant and a leader in real battles coming later. As a baron’s son, you were thrown into boarding schools in the teen years that were something like attending the Citadel in South Carolina. You’d be hazed by other baron’s sons, and your physical life included training for the pains and discomforts you’d be experiencing later as a professional soldier. Your dad was a warrior and leader of fighting men, and he expected no less from his sons.
That’s ok for the fairy tale books. People then seem to think that the best possible place to be born would be in a royal family at the top of the pyramid. You’re not just a baron’s son, you’re a prince. But guess what? You’re princely status doesn’t mean you won’t be thrown into the very same boarding schools and military academies with the baron’s sons. You’ll get ass kickings in spite of being a prince. You’ll be thrown into an educational arena occupied by a whole bunch of other 13 year old blue blood boys who are feeling the same stirrings of testosterone. They don’t care in the least that you are a prince and instead they’ll be curious to see if a prince is as tough as a baron’s son. The respect of your position only comes later in officer training phase and everyone knows that they might be hanging out with their future commander-in-chief. Princes were often expected to be on active duty on battlefields. If it was something really important and a do or die situation for the entire kingdom, the king himself was right there on the field with all his guys. And his soldiers might be expecting nothing less.
Now take a look at what’s happening at the moment in our republic. We have an entire elite class of people running our military who never grew up like princes. Instead, they all grew up – including all the males – as princesses. A feudal princess had a life also devoted to various duties. A queen had inside her body the source of the entire future monarchy – future kings came out of her body and from no other source. Of course she was pampered and protected. And it was the job of the males to protect her.
A kingdom run by people who grew up in the princess lifestyle, say like Hunter Biden as an extreme example, would have failed very rapidly in the Middle Ages. A king next door to a different religious or political alliance would find out about rule by the princess people next door who’d never seen a real battlefield. The king would next get his barons and knights all together, and he’d go next door and run the fairies out of their palace and place one of his own kin in the building to run the country instead.
In my opinion, the feudal arrangement with heads of state all having had real combat experience was the best one. If a person desires to start wars or is called upon to start one, why should that person not be required to be a tested and a professional soldier as well as being head of state? What’s wrong with making such strict requirements? We think somehow that the nerds are going to be able to successfully create such a crazy society. They won’t, they will fail.

And yet it seems like a lot of people are like ostriches with their heads in the ground. To the point where some people are asking where all the bodies are. Weekends were a joke.

Not uncommonly after an eight hour shift my knees were wobbling , and my eyes were crossing due to fatigue.

I suppose automobile maintenance alone will suffice as an example of what it was all for ;
In the ten years I worked in a factory I typically drove to work with an expired inspection sticker , an expired license plate ,
bald tires , even bad brakes.
There was actually one 6 month period where the brakes on my car were so bad that I had to drive strategically in such a way so that I could coast to a stop.
luckily then , as now , I lived in a very rural area , so coasting to a stop with an automobile was practically do-able.
I still had some really scarey moments , though.
No , I was not foolhardy or reckless. I simply could not , despite all that work , afford any better !
I have never done any drunk driving , and never have even gotten a speeding ticket.
I got ticketed for expired inspection stickers and expired license plates , and bad brakes , several times though.
I cannot convey adequately in words how existentially nauseating it is to walk into a court room and beg for mercy ,
not because you robbed a bank ,
but on account of a fucking sticker on a fucking piece of paper you couldn’t afford .
And why couldn’t you afford it ?
Because of THEM .
Why can’t they pay a fair wage for the most necessary work in any society ?
