The way financial markets puked this week, they must have started reading the news. Let’s face it, the headlines are a little short of reassuring. The $6.49 price on a gallon of diesel is enough alone to tell you that the nation can’t do business the way it’s set up to do, and there isn’t a new model for running things ready to launch — not even Klaus Schwab’s utopia of robots and eunuchs.
What’s out there, rather, is a model of breakdown and collapse which the Woked-up, globalist neo-Jacobins are doing everything possible to hasten. US-inspired sanctions on Russia have quickly blown-up in America’s face. How’s that ban on Russian oil working? Do you understand that US shale oil — the bulk of our production — is exceptionally light in composition, meaning it contains not much of the heavier distillates like diesel and aviation fuel? ‘Tis so, alas. Truckers just won’t truck at $6.49-a-gallon, and before long they’ll be out of business altogether, especially the independents who have whopping mortgages on their rigs that won’t be paid. The equation is tearfully simple: no trucks = no US economy.
Europe, the old original homeland of Western Civ, isn’t just losing face, it’s blowing its head clean off going along with “Joe Biden’s” economic war. Are Germany, France, and the rest of that bunch really so dead-set on jamming Ukraine into NATO that they’re willing to go full medieval for it? By which I mean sitting in the cold and dark with empty plates. That’s a hard way to go just to prove somebody else’s point.
The war in Ukraine itself was apparently losing its sex appeal for the click-hungry news media. No matter which way The New York Times and friends tried to spin it, they failed to grok both Russia’s determination to neutralize Ukraine and its ability to get the job done, even if it takes a longer-than-expected grind to finish. That’s how important it was to Russia that Ukraine not become a forward missile base and bio-weapons lab for its adversaries. When that operation concludes, the West will be left economically crippled and humiliated — which are conditions that historically portend regime change. Will America cough up “Joe Biden” like a hairball to get those trucks running again? Might the Dems themselves resort to releasing the kraken known as Hunter’s laptop just to send the old grifter packing?
In the meantime, the leaked Roe v Wade cancellation ruling shoved the Ukraine fiasco offstage so as to provoke more useful histrionics for the dreaded midterm elections upcoming. The poorly-understood truth is that said ruling will only send the abortion question back to the individual states. But let’s get real: places like New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, and California are not going to enact any new anti-abortion laws, and that’s where most of the people having hebephrenic breakdowns over the issue live. Which is to say there’s little danger that the shrieking denizens of these Blue states will lack abortions. So, how much has the party only been pretending that Roe v Wade is its primal touchstone?
The strange parallel question has been raised: might laissez-fair abortion be a cover for the evident new problem that Covid-19 vaccines have made a shocking number of birthing people incapable of reproducing? There’s a buzz about it, anyway. It’s a fact that Pfizer excluded pregnant and breastfeeding women from all phases of its mRNA trials. Among the various harms now ascribed to the mRNA shots are infertility, miscarriage, and newborn abnormalities. But, of course, that sort of rumor — here coming from cases among vaccinated military personnel and not so easily hushed up — is just what the many lurking censors want to slap down in any forum where ideas could be exchanged. It’s misinformation!
And so, the derangement volume knob over Twitter changing ownership stays up at eleven. Imagine what will happen if the supposedly 70-odd percent of Americans who got vaxxed learn in a re-liberated Twitter Zone that the Covid-19 vaccines are not “safe and effective.” According to Zero Hedge, twenty-six globalist NGOs with ties to George Soros signed a letter saying, “Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter will further toxify our information ecosystem and be a direct threat to public safety, especially among those already most vulnerable and marginalized.”
They are, as usual, projecting — since what is a greater threat to public safety than inducing tens of millions of frightened citizens to accept multiple shots of a poorly-tested pharmaceutical cocktail that can kill you six ways to Sunday? The folks in-charge (and others who would like to be the boss-of-you) don’t want you to know any of this. The pharma companies, the doctors, the hospital administrators, and the politicians must be frantic with terror of being found out.
Altogether, the scene looks like a multi-dimensional nightmare. Broken economy… sinking Western Civ… police state tyranny… vaccine death and injury… starvation…. So, there it is. Oh, look, those markets… they’re puking again!

There’s an election going on here in Ontario, and every municipality from Windsor to Whitby is awash with money for new highways, new schools and new electric vehicle production. The three parties are falling over themselves promising to spend, spend, spend. New money for education, more funding for healthcare and a buck fare for mass transit. Too bad all that money will be wasted to prop up a way of life that isn’t working now. Gas is approaching two bucks a liter and the cost of living is bankrupting families who can’t make ends meet. We’re all planning for a way of life that has no future while stuck in a present reality that’s not working. Thank you for an excellent post JHK.

Believe it or not, Reedsport is a different climate. In the last five years or so, the highest temp recorded in Coos County, specifically on the ranch, was slighjtly above 100F*, and that for only a day. We usually post about 75 inches of rain on the ranch on an average year.
*And it ain’t a “dry heat”…we have humidity…not the killer variety in the deep south, but noticeable.

No wildfires on the Coast .
—You are forgetting the Bandon Fire that burned all the way from the coast to the mountains until it got tired in the early winter. Or the McKenzie Fire that burned out the most beautiful river valley in the West only three years ago. I used to buck hay bales for spare change at the Holiday Farm where it first lit up,
—When I was 13 I was invited along on the fall harvest. The bag limit was two deer, but the only real limit was how many people you had to drag them out to the pickup. The game warden was the state policeman who was famous for dragging a buck he had poached back to his filling station, closing the doors, and then being chased all around the inside by a very angry buck.
Nobody went hungry in those days.
Your ranch wasn’t the destination for the Coos Bay amphibious landing about 20 years ago? An Ecuadorian freighter dropped anchor off the beach and started disgorging landing craft stuffed to the gills with square grouper. The destination ranch had been recently purchased buy a bunch of sketchy New Yorkers. The locals had been watching them for months, just waiting for the harvest .
The local tavern in my no stoplight home town long had an un-written policy: Outsiders were welcome to the first six seats near the entry. Loggers owned everything else, including the pool table. As long haired vets of the Vietnam clusterfuck began to trickle into the area and find jobs working in the woods or cultivating small plots of weed, they too enjoyed a beer after work. It eventually came to a head, the hippies threw all the loggers out through the front window, and peace was restored but with a different pecking order.

Fall harvest? Sadly, the State Police have hired split-tails, and they are a literal bitch to deal with.
We spent last April thru November 18 miles east of Reedsport on the Umqua River. After it stopped raining around mid-May, I don’t remember it raining again until mid-October. 3 days there it hit 115, 116, and 113. Luckily we were able to hang and swim in the Umpqua. Those 3 days set records in Reedsport around 80 degrees. Literally 15 linear miles away. Spent lots of last year hanging from just north of Coos Bay up to Yachats. Many summer days in winter jackets, gloves, and hats.
And we saw enough sketchy people wandering around out there to last a lifetime.
That, is nothing new. Coos Bay, Oregon gets “64 inches of rain,” on average, per year. The, “US average is 38 inches of rain per year.”
There would not be much of a wildfire season if the idiots was not in charge. But, They are. And for some insane reason they will not let them keep the forest clean of all so much mega thousands of tons of dead wood ?……
Decaying / dying trees ? Limbs. ? Under-Growth. Why these, “things”, are this way, is beyond me. And beyond many millions & millions of other American’s.

I take it you have never visited the Douglas Fir forests that cover the slopes of the Cascades, Montana and Wyoming pine forests are a totally different ecosystem, one dependent upon cyclical fire. People who drag out the mistaken notion that all western wildfires are caused by political decisions are simply repeating what their ideology wants them to believe with as much basis in reality as the recent COVID Pandemic of Fear.
I speak from direct experience. I grew up surrounded by the Willamette National Forest, the most prolific large expanse of prime Douglas Fir forests in North America. Worked for the Forest Service every summer while I went to university. Watched 170,000 acres of the area around the Hoodoo Bowl ski area burn out from a mid summer smoker that lit off a month after a summer lighting storm because the District ranger wouldn’t send me and the horse packer up into the wilderness on horseback to find it and put it out. Bucked hay on the Holiday Farm hay fields at the exact spot where a late fall lightning strike hit only three years ago and burned out the town of Blue River and my home ranch along with 20 miles of the most pristine river valley in the entire state.
It is indeed possible to pick through every bit of blow down and thin every jack pine thicket in a pine climax forest like that in the Northern Rockies. It is even possible to do the same in a Douglas Fir ecosystem like the Black Forest in Germany that I visited 40 years ago. But it would require so much manpower that unemployment in the western half of the US would be a thing of the past. Not necessarily a bad thing, but certainly not a financial priority for those who have settled and (over) populated (AKA Californicated) the area since I grew up there.
Also dumping here in the valley for the foreseeable future. Feels like old times.
All the reservoirs are at capacity and there’s a foot of snow expected in the passes this weekend.
The temperatures are much cooler than the usual spring temps so all the flower blossoms have stayed on the trees for weeks and my wisteria is just now blooming which normally would have happened 2-3 weeks ago.
It’s beginning to feel like we could have one of those years where summer happens mid-July through August and then its done. I can take it after last year’s heat.

Incidentally, I’ve never really liked cucumbers or zucchinis until I realized that they could be thrown in a blender, then passed through a sieve for their juice which could then be added to carrot juice. The remaining pulp could be saved/frozen for stews and soups and so forth.

Their pump diesel is already $10 per gallon, and even if every LNG tanker in the world were mobilized to move LNG from the US to Germany it would take several years to built the necessary shoreside transport infrastructure.
In the US the New Oligarchs find it more amusing to compete among themselves in a race to be the first to ride his own rocket into space, perhaps surrounded by his harem, than to invest their ill-gotten trillions in infrastructure or products that actually benefit the deplorables upon who’s necks their boots rest. The good news, from my perspective, is that normal folks who were never into this “woke” mania will not have much difficulty distinguishing the dangerous woke narcissists from sane Americans. The Wokesters almost all display identifying marks like sleeves of tats, purple “Road Warrior” hairstyles, and endless body piercings in locations that make normal folks wince and wanna ask them, “Doesn’t that hurt?”
These whackadoodles will be very easily identifiable through the scope on my AR as they approach in search of food and loot.
Not a perfect system of identification, but it will help people like me thin out the herds of mauraders with a higher than normal level of proficiency.
Advice for somewhat normal folks who, for whatever reason, took a walk on the wild side and indulged in these fashion statements: Get a normal haircut. Re-dye hair to natural color. Lose the piercings. Conceal the tats. I’m not going to have time to try to figure out if you are a good person with an alternative lifestyle fashion sense, or a full-blown Wokester. If you look weird and potentially dangerous, you will be dealt with accordingly when the Wokester Apocalpse finally goes kinetic.

Manures used on crops and gardens are composted. They are essentially soil that is high in organic material and nutrients. They don’t pollute the water supply any more than any other kind of dirt. Most animal manures cannot be applied to crops without first composting, as they would damage them. There are some animal manures that can be applied to crops without composting them first, such as llama manure.
Chemical fertilizers, on the other hand, do pollute the water supply–especially the run-off of nitrogen into surface water.
The NPK of cow manure is 11-7-10, and the NPK chemical fertilizer for corn is 46-0-0.
Organic fertilizers like manure also improve the soil structure so that it absorbs moisture, so there is less run-off.
Indeed. The dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico comes from artificial fertilizer, not manure.
And yeah, good fertile topsoil conserves water. Agribusiness destroys topsoil.

What needs to happen for “night soil” to become usable as manure. I know that some pathogens have to be killed, and I think piss can burn plants.
As I noted in an earlier thread, it seems like human excrement basically exits the circle and cycle of life, never to be used again.
We need to reintroduce scarab worship!

The absolute most important by product of using animal waste as manure is the rich diversity of microscopic organisms that live in the soil further helping breakdown organic matter into a fuel source aka fertilizer for plants.
Plants or animals die and feed microorganism they in turn break things down and then die themselves and the cycle of life is a complete circle.
Throw petro based fertilizer instead and it kills off the lower rungs of that circle makes the soil more toxic and the food less nutritious which is why so many Americans are obese and literally starving at the same time.
A good friend of mine married a woman (real woman) from Panama and they go down to Panama to visit her family for several months a year where he loses twenty sometimes thirty pounds and says he eats like a pig and still loses weight.
The only difference less processed poisons in the foods, less sugar and home-grown fruits and vegetables.
The animals are on a grass diet and not petro fed corn or grains.
I’ve been going the permaculture route (also known as no dig), this will be year 3. Raised bed, I mostly do root veggies such as potatoes, carrots, parsnips, beets, did some bush beans last year. They seem to do well here. Folks with acres of land do corn and bail for livestock. They seem to get two turns at bailing during the growing season. Lots of apple orchards around here, they’re just in bloom now. Close to planting time in this latitude.

Use of manure for fertilizer for large agbusiness is a fools errand…it will not scale.

The thing is, the agricultural practices of Big Ag have all but destroyed US topsoil and the fertility of most US farmland. Topsoil has largely washed away, and ground water and surface water has been polluted, killing aquatic life.
What this means is NOT that we must continue to use chemical manures. It means that Big Ag should be broken up and destroyed, and we should return to the family farm model for agricultural production.
A family farm will typically have several kinds of livestock (cows, goats, chickens, pigs), so that plenty of animal manures are readily available. Most family farmers will also grow “green manures”–cover crops that are tilled into the soil to improve fertility. There are many other good agricultural practices that enrich the soil and prevent erosion. Probably none of them are really “scaleable,” at least compared to just dumping chemicals on the ground. If it is impossible to do large-scale agriculture without destroying the soil, killing aquatic life, and polluting ground water and surface water, then we shouldn’t be doing large-scale agriculture–which only exists in the first place because of ag subsidies.
I think the thing to do would be to do away with all agricultural subsidies–and outlaw CAFOs.
I think that doing so would destroy Big Ag and make land available and affordable for the small family farmer, and for families wanting a small acreage (like 5-20 acres).
Sometimes when my daughter and I are driving around our rural area, past hundreds of acres of monoculture corn and soybeans, I’ve asked her to image what this same landscape would look like without ag subsidies (which support these vast monocultures).
What we’d have instead would be a landscape of farms (maybe 120 acres) and farmettes where each small holding would include a milk cow or two, a few goats, some chickens, sheep, some pigs, fruit and nut trees, a vegetable garden, a wood lot, a couple of bee hives, and pond.
The whole landscape would be a patchwork of these mini-Edens. Many of these small holdings would probably specialize in selling one thing or another. You’d have produce vendors, artisan cheese-makers, orchardists, bee keepers, bakers, dailymen, meat processors, charcutiers, canners, people selling jellies and jams, etc. You’d also have various types of craftsmen. Some of the bigger farms might specialize in growing grains or producing good quality hay.
This model could easily produce plenty of food for local consumption, provide food self-sufficiency for each family, and both care for and restore the soil. A small acreage should also allow most families to cut enough firewood for self-sufficiency in the way of heating fuel.

Not only have the “true-blue” states legally codified the right of women to terminate their pregnancies during the first trimester at least, it’s also worth pointing out that the “true-red” states have made it virtually impossible for working-class and poor women to obtain abortions. If the issue gets kicked back to the states, I imagine that women in the red states who can afford to do so (and this probably won’t be many) will just take a plane to a major city in one of these blue states and get the job done there. This is probably the way it is right now. So I don’t see very much changing as a result of any such ruling.

The Republicans are taking issue with the timing of the new board, as it comes after it was revealed that the White House was flagging posts on behalf of social media platforms. Additionally, it comes just after Tesla CEO Elon Musk, a self-described free speech absolutist, made a bid for Twitter.
“Suddenly, just as Elon Musk prepares to acquire Twitter with the stated purpose of correcting the platform’s censorship of free speech, you announce the creation of the Disinformation Governance Board. As the Biden Administration apparently loses a critical ally in its campaign to suppress speech it deems “problematic,” you have created a new government body to continue that work within the federal government,” the letter says.
“The contemporaneous occurrence of these two events is hard to explain away as mere coincidence. It instead raises troubling questions about the extent of the Biden Administration’s practice of coordinating with private-sector companies to suppress disfavored speech.”
The Republicans also expressed concern about the leader of the board, Nina Jankowicz, noting that she is “often in error but never in doubt.” She claimed the Hunter Biden laptop story was Russian propaganda, a theory that has since been proven wrong.
The attorneys general argue the board is illegal because there is “no statutory authority” supporting its creation.
“Unless you turn back now and disband this Orwellian Disinformation Governance Board immediately, the undersigned will have no choice but to consider judicial remedies to protect the rights of their citizens,” the letter concludes.”

The speaker before him had just said that they had found that the SARS 2 virus was killed within a minute by sunlight. So Trump speculated that UV light could be used within the body, which it already was in Cedars Sinai, shining UV light into ET tubes.
But the powers that be didn’t want Americans to know that sunlight killed the virus. How could they keep them locked in their houses if they knew that they were perfectly safe outside? How could they shut down outdoor gatherings if Americans knew they were in no danger attending?
So we were subjected to weeks of hysterical propaganda about bleach drinking. I’m willing to bet that there are still braindead Dems who believe it to this day.
Some of my relatives believed the bleach thing, and every other idiotic thing that the media reported. Some of those things could be refuted just by looking at the actual video, but they never would and still believe them to this day. I gave up trying after a few big family blowups, because it’s just no use.

mitchellc, yes, we accepted reality. But first we went to our rooms and cried a lot. The humans who function best don’t try to crush or deny any part of their humanity; we work with what we have, ALL of what we have, including our emotions. The gamesmanship and maneuvering, as you put it, has no appeal at all for me or for most people I know. I’m not sure exactly what sort of human you are, but you seem to be somewhat machine-like and to enjoy manipulating other people and events. Most of us want to live a decent life, and leave something worthwhile behind for those who come after us.

I don’t recall that my mother ever told me any such thing. It was not part of her temperament to reflect on such things. You learn about such things from song and story, and you know instinctively that the inherent tragedy of life’s fleeting nature is much of our dignity and glory–the real beauty of the thing.
The “core facts” or “hard reality” are best expressed by works like Thomas Moore’s “The Last Rose of Summer” or Tennyson’s “Come into the Garden, Maude,” or even “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” where quite a lot of people drop dead.

One of my friends was only recently commenting that you can’t buy a CD player any more. They no longer put them in cars, and even my laptop doesn’t have one. My friend says that there is no one around who repairs them anymore, either.

It isn’t possible for human beings to face painful facts of life without an emotional component, since emotion is a fundamental part of being human. How could anyone face this kind of ruination, which will blight if not end the lives of people we love, with no emotion? What kind of creatures would we be if we could? How logical is it to wish away basic parts of our human nature, which we will never be without? It makes sense to temper our logic with emotion, and vice versa. When we see further down the road how decisions being made now, in real time, by people who are untouchable (voting has a limited impact) and how unconcerned about the consequences as they are, it’s a sad picture. I don’t want the people I love to suffer or our country to decline.

If you notice now, it’s gotten so bad that if a woman has a bad feeling about getting on an elevator with a man, she’ll be considered a paranoid freak or a racist, etc.

What seems to have happened over the last 20 years is a loss of goodwill between the sexes and an unwillingness to admit the opposite sex has valid concerns or complaints. Women have been exploited and placed in a second-class citizen position in many ways — that’s why many stay in destructive relationships — and they can’t survive alone much less take care of children. Men have also been exploited by women who can play on sympathy b/c of this dynamic (which is real) when they have done their part, and often, more than their part, in causing problems.
I don’t buy the “toxic masculinity” anymore than “toxic feminism” b/c it drowns out honest, reasonable discussion. Do men like Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby exist? Yes. But I’ve known plenty of mean women who never raped anyone but managed to ruin people’s lives nonetheless.
The #metoo movement did uncover and bring to light how some men in some positions of influence exploit women and they have had little recourse to protect themselves. But it went overboard and pushed the feeble minded into shrill accusations for every minor offense.
A lot of the problems between men and women could be solved by the simple restoration of good manners: men acting like gentlemen and women acting like ladies.
A more complete restoration of goodwill could be achieved by a return to sexual morality. Men should have honorable intentions towards the women they date. There should be no expectation of premarital sex, and dating relationships should be considered a prelude to marriage, and nothing else. Women should of course enforce this expectation.
The problem with casual sex is that it breeds contempt for the opposite sex. Men view women a sluts or as a sort of recreational drug (and then are surprised that it’s costly, as recreational drugs tend to be). Women view men as pigs and predators.
Like it or not, women are romantics at heart, and their feelings are almost always involved in matters of sex. Whether they acknowledge it or not, they will be deeply wounded by men viewing their sexual favors as a mere good time.
It’s even possible for men to be deeply wounded when women have sex with them without taking the relationship seriously–although this is so rare that women are invariably surprised by this.
Sexual morality is not just a practical matter of who’s going to provide for the kids and look after them. It’s also a matter of having a decent regard for the feelings of others.
Very strong feelings are involved, and it is never a good idea to brutalize other people’s feelings.
Our society has gone far off the rails largely by promoting the idea that there is no such thing as human emotion and that sex is a mere release, like sneezing. This is just a way of dehumanizing us and creating a population whose minds are even more coarsened and whose sensibilities are even more blunted than is the regular thing.
People are not all that great if you just leave them alone, but it is possible to make them far worse. It’s also probably possible to make them quite a bit better, though that’s seldom been tried.
That said, I doubt if there’s any way to turn this thing around.
My youngest daughter used to complain to me about her “man troubles.” I told her that men and women are for the most part at cross-purposes when it comes to dating:

Electric self driving trucks can be a reality, but would have to take the form of TRAINS. But of course electrifying the nation’s rail lines would be the mother of all infrastructure projects, especially since the old railway express model would have to be reconstituted and that would involve activating old rights of way since train freight to smaller towns would be needed. Then you’d need local fleets of electric trucks. Is this a potentially feasible transition. Given the overall status of our “republic” , I would say no; I don’t think we’ll have the resources for such a project.
In Ct, just trying to expand, improve and update the old Housatonic RR, laid out in 1840, with its tracks intact and right of way secured, has proven to be an insurmountable task. We really can’t get anything done here anymore.

There was a time when I favored abortion, and I’m still not totally opposed to it. But, like many other doors that opened a crack, I didn’t realize at the time that it would be opened wide enough to allow pretty much anything. The cut-off date has been moved and moved, until people now want to dismember infants in the birth canal or “allow” them to die if born alive. That, IMO, is going way too far. And, of course, it’s a money making industry now, which brings its own corruption. I would never have believed that anyone, having had one abortion, would keep doing the same thing and, worse, at a later date in the pregnancy. I underestimated the stupidity and cruelty of my fellow beings, and now I’m just profoundly disgusted by the whole thing. I expected it to be a relatively rare thing, occurring early in a pregnancy – not a form of birth control.
You should bear in mind that the original Roe v. Wade decision did include limits, although many of its foes refuse to recognize that.
As for moving the dates later and later, that’s something a small number of politicians decided to do without any input from their constituency, giving women “rights” which for the most part we already had, and started people yelling about the women who are waiting until the last minute to kill their babies. There weren’t any women asking to be allowed to kill their babies in the ninth month.

Sometimes you just have to say a firm “no” at the outset. I say that reluctantly, but I’ve faced up to the results of my previous tolerance.

The number of couple who would like to adopt FAR exceeds the number of babies available for adoption. Waiting lists are long, and the time you can expect to wait for a baby to adopt is around five years.
This over-abundance of adoptive parents subsists, even in spite of adoption being a very expensive proposition. It costs about $20,000-$30,000. The adoptive parents must have a pretty decent and secure income and a suitable home–which will be inspected.
The couples that I’ve talked with who wish to adopt are not concerned about the race or sex of the baby. The attitude is, “I don’t care if it’s a black baby. I just want a baby.” But I suspect that black babies are in even shorter supply than white babies, due to blacks’ very high abortion rates.
There is no issue at all, as far as finding suitable couples who would like to raise and provide for these children.

As someone who believes in the right for the Jewish people to have a Jewish state in the world and also believes in democracy, in the primacy of democracy as a form of government, it’s hard to see how this works…A two state solution is hard to envision now, but a one state solution is even harder.

A lot of fundamentalist Christians (and even some Catholics) have very strange ideas about Judaism. I think some of these churches must come very near to portraying Jews as the original Christians.

I was a little surprised many years ago to learn that Conservative Jews don’t believe in an afterlife. (And you can be pretty darned sure that Reformed Jews don’t either. I’m not sure about Orthodox Jews.) Judaism, with the possible exception of Orthodox Judaism, is really just atheism masquerading as a religion.
As for Israel, their difficulties with the Palestinians and the surrounding Arab countries are due to a dispute over the ownership of the real estate. So it doesn’t seem to me that anyone has a dog in this fight but the disputants. And it also seems to me that no one in the US ought to be paying out the wazoo for Israel’s defense.
If they really feel that there is a need for a Jewish state, it seems to me that they should locate it somewhere where everyone in the region doesn’t hate them and want to kill them. But Jews have always had some difficulty in finding a place like that.

I recall seeing signs all along some California beaches to steer clear of the seal, and their calling noises were very loud.

The really big males can be aggressive in central and northern CALIFORNIA and huge. There was video of one grabbing a girl and pulling her into the water but I think it was more of a prank then it trying to kill and eat her.
Seen many a large male sea lion bleeding out from shark bites as I exited the water at Scotts creek just north of Santa Cruz which is very near Ano Nuevo. Some have been so big I thought it was a new sand dune.
The real apex predator is the Great White and its only real adversary are Killer whales who eat both the sea lions, great whites and anything else they decide is tasty.

The World has been turned into a torture chamber filled with every social, mental, physical, economic, and spiritual sickness one can fathom.
And there are no more hot-pockets or beverages to be found because the trucks didn’t make it to the store and are sadly parked somewhere on the Interstate devoid of diesel fuel and without anyone to drive it.

I agree about realpolitik. However, it goes both ways–the West helping Ukraine and bleeding Russia white is also realpolitik–it is not personal, its business. Though JHK Admin would rather tut-tut the west for doing what it is doing. After all, the west is getting off cheap here–bargain basement war with the Ukrainians dying to stop the Russian invasion. And you could be very right, BRH. Russia might achieve its pared back objectives, but with both sides trading blows, I am not as confident as you are that this is a done deal by any stretch of the imagination. If the Ukrainians are anything like the Poles, this is a fight that is ending no time soon. And the longer it goes on, the more damaged Russia becomes. So, we shall see what those pesky Ukrainians are going to do, especially as the West has signalled that they are going to be VERY proactive in the fight–expect aircraft deliveries from the Poles in the next couple of weeks … (my off the wall prediction!).
And as for provocations–Putin is scared shitless of a NATO attack, so I am guessing, no more bullshit executions of Ukrainians. Putin is on notice that he pulls that shit again, it gets way worse for him and the Russians. So, his nuclear posture reflects weakness, not strength…

If Russia learns anything–even if it wins–its days of facing a compliant West and Europe in particular are done. It learned–prior to this–that the West wasn’t serious in defending itself against fascist tendencies–either from Russia or within its own borders. That has seriously changed. Putin is looking for an exit ramp where he can claim a victory and get out of the mess he created. Want evidence for that claim? How about Russia falling back before a Ukrainian OFFENSIVE before Kharkiv or having to blow three bridges in doing so? Sure, I still expect Russia to win, but,, the odds are changing, and it is a hell of a lot more sporty now than it used to be. Your unwillingness to acknowledge that possibility makes your post more of an act of FAITH than a reasoned argument.
I would ask you this–since you clearly understand yourself to be “the adult in the room”–what would you do? What is your red line for Russian behaviour and why? It is a sad and powerful fact of Russian propaganda use of “reverse symmetry” that a country that is so much stronger than Ukraine can convince folks that it is in danger from Ukraine. The Russians say, “We are so weak that Ukraine is a threat to us!” Well, you can’t have it both ways–either Russia is weak and has no business attacking a country that is stronger than it and should rely on the “rule of law,” or Russia is strong and it has no business bullying a smaller weaker country than it, again according to “the rule of law.” Right now, Putin puts himself OUTSIDE the international rule of law–as he has done in his own country. And why would I want to support that? I don’t.

He makes a very coherent argument about the Covid op and long-term planning by the Sustainable Development hawks at the WEF and the UN—about the role of covid as a means to meet a deadline/time line already set by 2015.

The Saker was actually very abusive toward commenters on his blog who tried to talk sense about this. B of MoA only slightly less so. I think B is probably a genuine hypochondriac as well as a not very healthy individual.
Now it is openly acknowledged at The Saker blog that the covid thing was/is some kind of op and tactic to achieve a completely different nonmedical aim with medical means. But The Saker is not around to freak out and lashout at commenters, since he has taken a long leave for health reasons. All very strange, IMHO. Maybe he took the jab and isn’t feeling well and doesn’t want to admit it?

Could be he’s another disinformation agent. Could be he has big blind spots. Could be something else.

When he was asked if he was surprised he said not at all. He said Vicki was calculating and plotting and was very smart and outsmarted the sheriff. And he said she had a dark side and he didn’t think they will be found. They are also saying Casey is a member of the Southern Brotherhood “white supremacist” prison gang. And he had attempted an escape several years ago that was unsuccessful. The US marshals are involved now in the manhunt.

This documentary starts with some background going back to the Orange Revolution in 2004. If you want to jump right to the military situation in the Donbass in summer 2014 start at ca. 40:00. The German journalist who made the film was on the scene in Ukraine starting in April 2014, more or less “embedded.”

Re food, the UK hasn’t fed itself since the 18th century. It could probably feed the 14.5 million that Deagel forecasts for 2025.
I read or saw something interesting a month or so ago, regarding domestic production of food. I don’t know the exact figures, but I think we import half of our food or nearly. Counter-intuitively, it appears that if we did what the sustainability folks want and went veggie/vegan, we’d then need to import about 80% of our food.

LOL! Yep, I’m definitely more pink in the summertime. And not all that different in the winter either. I’m definitely a case of a northerner who should have remained there. I’m jealous of the local Hispanics who can stay out in the sun all day with no problem. One hour or less for me or I pay the price, and I don’t like paying that price anymore at all.
Not many blacks out here at all. They’re definitely a minority, but not a favored one. While I haven’t looked into it, and so am unaware of the mechanisms, I’ve heard that we can evolve within our own generation. What I mean is that what we do now in our lives, like our diets or physical activities and whatever else, can apparently have surprisingly-impactful consequences for our immediate offspring. Seems to make sense.
I used to have a theory that our genes could encode memories as well, and it turns out that this may be true, at least to some extent. In any case, life continues to mystify and astound.

Well, I just did it again just last night with an artist, Eivør, who I’d never heard of and who is from the Faroe Islands.
She sings in her native language as well as in English and is influence by Kate Bush (she did a Hounds of Love cover).
She seems quite young, but music is often by the young and the young can still inform, entertain and be wise. Pink Floyd, afterall, did some pretty good work in those contexts.
Anyway, while she’s not for everyone, and while the verdict is still out on her entire collection, I’ll leave you and the commentariat with an interesting little video as a story about a young woman who falls in love with death. I’ll leave the rest of the story to the video, entitled ‘True Love’ (Warning; it’s a bit repetitive here and there and at the end, but I kind of like the ‘tranciness’ of that).

What I’ve partly been doing, FWIW, is looking at sprouting seeds and growing the seedlings briefly at home for transplant to my plot in a community garden.
I am a little late but have a couple of egg cartons and some soil and might scoop a bit more if need be from my plot.
I have a couple of marijuana seeds, too, that my neighbour gave me as a gift, but, based on someone else giving me a couple of hits of their liquid stuff, it either doesn’t affect me at all or just makes me slightly nauseous and with a slight headache and with an odd delayed or sticky perspective effect when it kicks in (that is hard to describe). Maybe the natural plants will have better effects, or at least contribute to my nutrition, such as an addition to soups and stews.
Everyone has their poisons I suppose. Maybe mine are magic mushrooms, who knows.

So I was up at a St Park at1 800 ft in the Berkshires this weekend. I was in a yurt.. Beautifull. Firepit, electric, great bunkbeds. Cold and the 40’s breezy but that blew the black flies to shit. I’ve been camping for years . tents, vans, rv’s, this was nice. My granddaughter was never in the woods. I scared her with bear stories.
