Labor Day is in the rearview mirror and the long, sickening slide into we-know-not-what (but it can’t-be-good) commences! Well, there are a few things we know, but only in the shaggy outlines because the folks who are supposed to inform us — the news media, the public health gang — like to keep the real action behind a scrim of unicorns cavorting through a rainbow-lit candyland. Of course, we are not all the idiots they want us to be.
Here’s one thing we sort of know: you-all vaxx-happy Wokesters are about to have a new BA-5 bivalent booster laid on you. The Darwin Award season has been extended at least another six months! You’ll be glad to hear it’s been tested in a trial involving eight lab mice, and quickly approved by our FDA. The bad news is that all eight mice got Covid. The worse news is that the booster was wildly inconsistent in producing antibodies among the eight identical mice, meaning the ultimate effect on their immune systems is a crap-shoot — but, hey, they’re only mice.
Thus, some more good news: humans were so far spared any testing for this new miracle treatment. Pfizer and Moderna didn’t hurt anyone in any cobb-job trials, like they did the first time around (hiding the results). The not-so-good news is: nobody, especially no one in the FDA, has any idea what effect the new booster will have on humans. The best news is that our beneficent government will only make the new vax available to people who are already vaxxed. You have to be “eligible,” in the club, so to speak. Aren’t you special! I never joined that club, so it works for me.
I’d suppose, though, that a lot of people who originally joined the vaxx club will demur from pharma’s latest offering. Actually, most of them. Perhaps they’ve heard that each shot drains more mojo from your immune system. Perhaps they’ve heard about friends and relatives who developed sudden vicious cancers, neurological difficulties, vascular disasters, or lingering, unshakable Covid symptoms. Suppression of news has been epic, of course, but surely you’re aware that Justin Bieber lost the use of half his face six months ago. No world tour for Justin.
Another thing we know (this one for certain): a new leading cause of death throughout Western Civ in people under 60 is “Cause Unknown.” At least that’s the official designation because the officials running public health and the medical establishment don’t want to know what’s killing people. Or, more precisely, they don’t want you to know, so they pretend not to know.
If they suddenly felt the itch of curiosity, they might discover that the mRNA shots were behind the spread of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) — the interchangeable and equally ambiguous tag for this mystifying phenomenon. That might suggest to a Nancy Drew level medical sleuth that mRNA vaccines are not good for you, not “safe and effective,” that is, meaning that the entire two-plus-years of vaxxing up roughly 260,000,000 Americans has been a fraud, which would vacate Moderna’s and Pfizer’s liability shield for these products. Cue, every lawyer born after 1940.
Another thing we know for sure now is that people who are vaccinated are far more likely to catch Covid and also more likely to be hospitalized for it. One in fourteen Brits are currently infected with it, mainly the vaxxed-and-boosted. The media propaganda is full of people bragging that their bout of Covid, or several bouts of Covid — from which they were supposedly immune — “could have been much worse.” Actually, for many of the vaccinated, it is much worse. They don’t hear about it because the news media won’t tell them, and the news media executives do what their commissars in government and pharma tell them to do. “Jump!” (“How high?”)
A federal judge this week ordered the White House, Anthony Fauci, Secretaries Becerra and Mayorkas, and a slew of other US officials to surrender their email correspondence with social and news media companies in the matter of government working to suppress the first amendment and, in the censoring, de-platforming, and defaming of many individual citizens who attempted to present views of the Covid melodrama contrary to the official narratives. This was in a suit brought by state Attorneys General Eric Schmidt (MO) and Jeff Landry (LA). From it, a million more lawsuits for personal injury may bloom. Mark Zuckerberg let the cat out of the bag days ago as to how the FBI leaned right on him.
Prepare for an avalanche of unwelcome news evading the censors as we slide out of summer into the cold-and-flu season, as it’s called. Hundreds of millions throughout the highly-vaxxed nations will be walking around with crippled immune systems. The life insurance companies may require a bail-out, from all those “unknown causes” that killed people. But so will every other institution in Western Civ.
Alas, the money for that is fated go up in a vapor later this fall as the history’s greatest margin call gets underway. Let’s face it, Europe and North America are sloughing off their industrial economies and the financialization racketeering underneath all that doesn’t produce anything of value. Seventy percent of the pubs in the UK are shuttering because they can’t pay the electric bill. Germany is just flat-out hanging itself the basement. The Euro is going to trash.
A little birdie told me to expect a last gasp stock market rally the next ten days, with the Dow nearing 35,000. What a set-up. Markets are truly diabolical the way they prey on human wishes. God help the suckers watching CNBC.
Following his Mouth-of-Hell speech last week, declaring war on half the country, “Joe Biden’s” prospects are dimming along with sclerotic circuits in his brainpan. The Party of Chaos is desperate to survive the midterm election. Therefore, look for them to grudge up an excuse to make them not happen. They need a “national emergency” and they’ll manufacture one if necessary. Wait for it.
A postscript: the seemingly everlasting presence of Queen Elizabeth has peacefully departed this plane of existence. The old girl had a mighty good run, perhaps the best that will ever be, temporally at least, for any sovereign outside the sci-fi movies. This leaves Britain and its chattel domains with a king, Charles III. I’ve long identified, in a half-assed way, with this quirky fellow. We were born only a month apart, and I’ve witnessed all of his agonizing endless wait for the electric moment when he would rise to the crown and scepter.
Charles was very active in mid-life in the New Urbanist movement, as I was. I gave some talks in those years to the Prince’s Foundation, though I never met the guy. He did some really nice work, notably building the walkable town of Poundbury, Dorset, which he sponsored as a demonstration project to show that England would benefit from quitting its mode of suburban sprawl — which it most surely must do now with all its oil-and-gas problems.
There is chatter that King Charles has lately become a tool of der Hoch Schwabenklaus and his World Economic Forum, with its Satanic program for revising the human project into a nanobot horror show. I hope that is not so. The world needs a lot of help right now, and not from that gang. Here’s wishing Charles an upright and valiant go at the kingship thing, at least lending some honest moral support to his floundering country.

Yes but can you defend it from all those that believe they are entitled to what others have?
We are about to see a sea change in those now on the government tit when currency stops working. If they can’t buy what they need do you think it might occur to them to visit your house some night?
I posted about this on Monday, I think, the fact that there is “emergency” legislation that allows the government to do just this.
I’ve been yelling for some time that the issue the candidates need to be running on is taking away their so-called emergency powers so that crimes against humanity, like that covid fiasco, can never happen again.
What I overlooked on Monday, is that I have strong allies pushing this issue to the forefront:

If we don’t take care of this now, it does not matter who we elect. They ALL have the same proclivity to play a superhero, and the same stupidity to not know what their job is.

Emergencies end, the authorization to act to meet the emergency should have an extremely short life.
We probably have enough ’emergency’ laws already, an inventory would be appropriate, with a good clean sweep close behind.
Governments readily grab more power but rarely, if ever, relinquish any.
Didn’t the Patriot Act have a sunset clause or two?
Declaring and “emergency” is the classic totalitarian playbook, end run around democratic processes.
Of course, creating the “emergency” precedes declaring the “emergency.”
Cue Reichstag Fire.

Seven years after 9/11 came the economic meltdown of ’08. I’m afraid there may be some shenanigans in or about 9/11/22 that will create further chaos so we all run to Daddy Government for protection from the latest Boogeyman.
Having the right tools and in sufficient quantities will certainly be priority number two but having a network of human beings that can be counted on to protect all of what all of those who prepared have compiled will be priority number one.
Fighting the government is not something that is going to go well without F-16s, (right Joe?), but I would think that depending where you live, marauding bands of ne’er-do-wells will not be that large and can easily be dealt with if you have a dozen or so people that can be counted on and stay alert and under the radar.
I sincerely hope that absolutely NO ONE takes any action against any form of official government, no matter how much they try to goad us into doing something stupid. That is what Dopey Joe wants. If, however, they break down your door in the middle of the night it’s not like they are going to show you any ID first, so I say odds are that they are drug crazed Ninjas and should be dealt with accordingly. You can always ask the Lord to forgive you later.

Pretty much the same situation here–but the canning just continues, as the tomatoes, peppers, and okra are still rolling in non-stop, and soon it will be time to harvest more collards, turnips, and turnip greens. I should have adequare firewood soon, but I don’t need but about two cords. I’m planning to plant lettuce and spinach soon. Spinach will over-winter here, so that it comes back quite early in the spring.
I love to can, but it’s to the point where I’m starting to get tired of it.
I started the process of saving tomato seeds a few days ago (ferment, wash, and dry). I have one tomato plant that is very unusual. It is definitely not one of the varieties I planted–though it certainly came from one of the seed packets. I especially wanted to save the seeds from this one, as (whatever it is) it’s a real winner: immensely productive, good tasting, and very nice looking. I’ve never seen a tomato that was such a uniform brilliant red–not a hint of green shoulders, either. It’s also beatifully ruffled, so it has that heirloom look, and a cross-section cut gives a beautiful slice.
I don’t know if the seed company mixed up some seeds, or if one of the plants they saved the seeds from inadvertently crossed with something else. If the latter, it won’t come true from seed, but it has me curious.
So: seeds saved from the mystery tomato, Cherokee Purple, Persimmon, and Amish Paste. The Early Girls are very productive this year, but this one is a hybrid, so there is not use in saving the seeds. I highly recommend Persimmon, if you want a yellow/orange tomato. The seed is hard to find, and, in the process of saving it, I noticed that it has few seeds. That’s probably why they’re hard to find, as it’s an outstanding variety. (HUGE tomatoes, and lots of them.)
I predict that there will soon be a slew of RICO suits filed against Fauci & Friends. Many thanx to the state AGs mentioned above, and Naomi Wolf, Steve Kirchner, Ed Dowd, et al. for chumming the waters for the private sector attorney sharks.
I hope so. I have long thought that if this thing really turns around that it would kick off in US courts.
Here in Germany, the Bundestag just agreed to start up with masking and offer states the option to go full Nazi again when the fake “incident” counter rises too high.

The problem is the coalition of Green and SPD. Look at the vote count. Most of the other parties didn’t even have one member vote yes.
But curiously enough, the WEF partners were installed at just the right time in history, and have just enough of a majority to push tyranny.
Imagine that.
I know quite a few people in Germany, though I wouldn’t claim I could make any sort of judgment about trends based on that. Still – it’s worth noting that every single one of them is desperate to keep sending everything they’ve got to keep the war going in Ukraine, and can’t wait to line up for more jabs and more masks. I’ve wondered exactly how much it will have to personally hurt them before they change their tune, but no sign so far.

The media-conditioned zombies are largely in the big cities. In the villages and smaller cities there are quite a few people not interested in the plan.
Large parts of Sachsen and Thueringen would probably be ungovernable if the nutters push far enough.
I keep saying this, but IMO it is no coincidence that the current government is a coalition of the SPD and Greens. They are the two parties who are largely controlled by the WEF crowd.
I have little doubt the election was fraudulent, and interestingly enough, that idea is starting to get some traction here.
The problem is Germany’s proportional system used in elections. Too many political parties.
I am out of touch with most of my friends in Germany.
One was refusing the jab. Not sure how that ended up for her.
Another, 80 years old, in Munich, was uncomprehending as to why I would not get jabbed.
In Austria, a friend was fretting about her dad, who was refusing. Ca. 80 yrs old. I told her I thought she should be supporting her father in exercising choice and control over his body and not adding to his stress at being coerced into unwanted medical treatment. .
I think they rescinded the mandate and FINES in time for him to escape the claws of death.
My close German relatives had their nice big upper middle class home destroyed in an air raid, and all the habitable part that was left was the basement. So they cleared and worked on the rubble and built a sort of roof for themselves over the basement and for a few years lived like rats, barely making it sort of camping in the ruins. Up until then they’d been living in relative comfort, the next minute BANG and it was over, and it took them at least a decade to get back to where they were, with a lot of help from the Marshall Plan. The house was rebuilt after the war and is now an apartment building where one relative still lives. However, the ones that had learned anything from the Nazi catastrophe have all passed away. It seems the younger Germans just can’t wait to try the basement living routine again, with nothing but rotten potatoes and old sauerkraut to eat. Forget about having any eggs or coffee.
Kunstler says Germans are looking to hang themselves in their basements. My forebears wouldn’t have been interested in that, they’d been working too hard just to make it from one day to the next to throw it all away and chicken out by hanging themselves.

The US government is the biggest. But what the UK government lacks in real stature, it has tried to make up for with the MOST bellicose rhetoric.
Some say that Boris Johnson himself torpedoed the peace talks when the Ukraine govt appeared willing to make some “concessions”. While I personally doubt they would have been sufficient, Johnson made it moot and ENSURED the war would go on.

I beg to differ only in that this partnership of elites I think manifests as co-equals going back to the founding of the CFR, a Brit-instigated adjunct to Milner’s Roundtable; the Rhodes Trust arm that has been pushing for world domination since the early 1900s. That includes primary goals such as the re-ascession of the USA into the british Empire. These people are serious about this and also serious in their goal to subsume Russia. After all, they supported not just the Bolsheviks and the ascension of the Nazis pre-WW II, but also started both world wars and the Cold War (1.0) to that very end.

This is the so-called “royal family” where his father, the parasitic Duke of Edinburg, proclaimed some years ago, that he wished to be re-incarnated as a VIRUS to reduce the global population of “useless eaters” – that’s us. That is how these parasites see the human race. To them we ARE the useless garbage that needs to be exterminated, since we consume the finate global resources, which they believe, should belong only to them! The plan is to reduce the global population by 3/4, leaving just enough to serve their needs, i.e. slaves.
For this purpose, wars are great, where millions get killed and what is even better is a made-up “pandemic”, where they can “vaccine” you with a kill-shot. And if that does not work right away, you will be receiving the “boosters” to finish the job!

i too am amazed at so many people i follow/read/watch …. how they can be so insightful in areas and then blinded in others, that shows they are not putting so many of the obvious pieces together. i followed peak oil,,, even sat at a conference table with the host himself. but i have since learned,,, that dissing “urban sprawl” promotes compact, walkable smart cities that are indeed fuel-less with complete track/trace/social credit systems easily implemented. i’d be curious what jhk things about rosa koire’s work regarding the master plan for intentional urban sprawlessness. charles 3 seems to be in his prime as the poster king to push it down our throats like we have never seen.
England and Europe are not as suburban as the US, but they’ve been catching up in the last 50 years. I had the pleasure to visit Sweden 8 times a while back while working for a Swedish company. I’d rent a car and drive around after work. Once you get out of the postcard city centers, you could be in suburban Detroit or Minneapolis.
I totally agree. The “newer” parts of Athens (say post 1980s/90s) tend to be in areas that are further out (this being a relative term), and are NOT served by the buses. So these people need a car to get to wherever, or to get where they can park and ride.
The distances are smaller, but the traffic moves more slowly. Covering 10 miles by car in Athens can take as long as 25 or 30 miles in metro Detroit.
And Greece is one of the “poorest” EU countries. Even the TV shows and commercials show bigger nicer homes, which are further way.
While there are many more of them, they are a rather small percentage of the population.
Heat and electricity are more pressing, for most people. If the buses and trains run, not having a car can be inconvenient, but it’s not like being carless in the US. I suspect northern Europe is similar.
Remember decades ago when every now and then a photo would show up of streets in China clogged with thousands upon thousands of bicycles? That’s where Europe is heading.
I’m starting bicycling again and trying to get in shape for longer rides. I’ve a few friends a lot younger than myself that are bike nuts. They can get places very fast, and think nothing of riding 30 miles round trip to go somewhere. Not having a car wouldn’t slow them down all that much. In city traffic like NYC, sometimes a bike can get you someplace faster than a car can.
I used to love riding my bike in NYC. That was in the 1980s. You could get from the Upper West Side to the Village in about 20 mins, on 11th or 12th or maybe it was 10th Ave.
It was the best way to appreciate NYC—Flying downtown with the river on your right . . .
Woodchuck, yep, I just got done with a 4 mile ride up the big hill and over, the one they call Slide Hill, that is the big hurdle on the road to town. At almost 70 and ex-smoker, that’s pretty good. We must keep pushing, though.
To quote Nelson DeMille, the future has gone from being a place that people welcomed, even celebrated, to a place that more and more people don’t want to be. At least that’s how I remember it. i guess time has a way of disappointing all of us.

I had been noticing areound the time when he book came out, when I was still reading a lot of books, that an unusually high number of new books contained gratuitous criticism of Donald Trump. Even in novels.
It also appeared to have been added to the books after they’d been written. As if it were a condition of getting your work published.
I once drove with a Brit on his first trip to NYC. He was amazed that you could drive for hours and still be in the middle of nowhere, before you got there.

Some years ago, while attending the big airshow in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, I met a Brit who was there with some other friends from England. He was a flight attendant for British Airways, and his whole experience of the USA at that point was JFK airport and the hotel. They put him in my buddy’s small plane and flew him around rural Wisconsin, and he was absolutely overwhelmed by the open farmland that stretched to the horizon in all directions. Just couldn’t get over it.
their whole big island is only about 600 miles long and 300 across at the wide bit down the bottom. further north it’s not even a hundred miles across.

My dad used to drive 1200 kms or 720 miles to visit his girlfriend.
As far as I know he did it in one go every time, just straight through.
Just measured it on the google map and it’s 1200 km as the crow flies, so even further by road.
well, being google there’s no excuse to not just ask, 1583 kms via the Bruce Hwy (yes really, Bruce) or 1676 kms via the Gregory Hwy.
The Bruce Highway runs along the scenic coast, while the Gregory goes up the tablelands behind the Great Dividing Range

I agree, Beryl. She gracefully represented Britain far better than any diplomat could do, and worked until the day before she died. Anyone who thinks someone in her position has a comfy life is grossly misinformed. No privacy, every action scrutinized, constantly meeting strangers and having to make small talk, endless formal dinners where you can’t choke or sneeze, that red case of papers to be read and understood every single day of your life, thousands of public appearances where you have to smile, look tidy and not trip over your own feet. I can’t imagine anything worse, and a few luxurious rooms (which is all you can really live in) would certainly be poor payment. And then to see your life portrayed on tv, entirely made up by writers, and be unable to say a word about it. A form of torture, I’d say.

YES! That’s exactly it. I’ve been trying to put a finger on why I felt so bad yesterday when I heard she had died. I’ve never been a royalty lover, but I kinda liked Liz. Ever since I heard (and it seemed to happen pretty suddenly), I’ve had this terrible, empty feeling. Like the cork has been let out of the bottle. Like the last adult in the room has finally left.

Same here, Cactus. I never liked the royalty love-in in the UK. However, I am left with a sense of foreboding at her death. It’s another reminder that we are truly at the end of an era and moving into much stormier waters.

I think the real heart of this iteration of the Windsors was the queen mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon or something like that. I think she came from an ancient but “lesser” family in Yorkshire. She had no expectation of ever being the queen when she married the younger son. She had the “common” touch, and also an unerring sense of occasion and public presentation. Appropriately queenly but warm.

I do not jive with the idea of “royalty” however a monarchy is often a stable form of government. It’s about having a leader that cares for his country and its people in a real sense because its generational.

Our government is specifically designed so there is never stable leadership. Sure that makes it dynamic but does it work well?

The morass of government we’re stuck with means there is no one we can ever hold accountable.
Would I want to live under a King or Queen? I can’t say that I would but I currently exist in a country where our “leadership” endorsed a medical procedure to cull the population so I don’t currently feel particularly partial to our representative form of government.

I agree with you Rowdypiglet and would like to add Elizabeth earned her country’s respect and kept it for 70 years. Not an easy thing to do. Neither she nor her family were perfect but she behaved with dignity and showed consideration for the people she was dealing with. The last time we saw that level of class in America was JFK and look at the trail of grifters, clowns and incompetents that followed.
And the American women who married into the royal family — Wallis Simpson & Megan Markle — no wonder they’re glad there’s an ocean between us.

As I’m sure you know it is quite different here in the U.S. and we are not like Europeans.
For example your country could nicely fit within the borders of my state with room to spare. Two weeks ago we drove 7 hours to go camping in a remote area and didn’t leave the state.
All this to say it creates a mindset. This is the way it is in most of this country. We are big with large open areas. Lots of people live in those areas and they don’t want to be messed with. Our country is dominated by the cultures created in the cities but it doesn’t replicate everywhere like they’d like you to believe.
The representative republic worked when we were a small country but it is archaic and is failing us. The Federal government dominates when the design was to be precisely the opposite. It’s not going to hold together the way it is now.
Hate to tell ya about this, but monarchy is the default setting of mankind in history. European monarchies started after the end of the Dark Ages when rule by warlord was the system in place. Around a thousand years ago those warlords, with Charlemagne being the best example, established royal families that ruled for many centuries to follow.
We’re approaching the beginning of our Dark Age. And after its over and things recover, we’ll have learned our lesson by then that republics and democracies simply cannot work due to basic human nature. I disagree, Woodchuck, about the “fake monarchy.” In the UK, the monarch has little political power, but contrary to your thought that it serves no purpose, it does – as you also said – represent everyone. Instead of representation, though, I’d say that it gives people the sense of a family of which the monarch is the parent. And most people actually relish the pomp and circumstance, the continuity and security of re-enacting rituals one’s ancestors would recognize (of course, none of these things apply to the masses of illegal migrants who despise everything).

Your actual family may break apart or you may not really have one to begin with, as is often the case now. And whomever in your family is thought of as the center may die and leave no real heir. But the royals function as a kind of remote set of relatives who continue to be there regardless of what happens in your own family. People do need some symbols of continuity, whether you like it or not, and whether or not you think they should. Fundamental human needs seek to be accommodated, whether you approve of them or not.
Your local priest and the Mass used to perform somewhat the same function. No matter what happened in your personal life or on a larger scale, when you attended Mass you took part in the same ritual that you always had, and it didn’t matter if the priest was a different person from the week before; this one thing continued the same and acted as a fixed point of security in the vicissitudes of your life. It was a source of comfort, to know you could rely on at least this one thing remaining as it was.
There is nothing comparable that I know of in modern life. Everything is up for grabs, everything is for sale, every promise has an escape clause. Nothing is solid or substantial, anything may disappear, anyone may discard you for any reason or none at all. Do you not think that there’s value in something that remains as it has always been?
Successful couples form families, families form clans, clans form tribes, related tribes, nations. Two parents and a kid aren’t enough. Nor a bunch of “relatives” you never see and/or you don’t like. Nor your brothers and sisters who believe what the Media tells them and got jabbed.
Such “family” is a liability at this point. Real culture means getting a large number of related people on the same page.

McCullough discusses the development and spread of different variants in detail—the trail of mutations. This is not dependent on the origin of the virus. It coiuld have come from a lab and then mutated like any other coronavirus. Per McCullough one of the oddities of Omicron was that it deviated in multiple locations on the chromosome, whereas other variants were just one mutation apart from the previous.
I am sticking with McCullough and Malone on this issue.

Even if reduced to a crape myrtle off your Ryan Townhome’s front stoop.
In this acquiescence there was still a solution: keep ’em at home. Telework, remote-learning, grub-hub, Prime deliveries, etc. And when they do need to leave their home for some confounding reason, they can take their EV’s, now mandatory by 20thirty-something!
In the meantime one can see the return, or rather the introduction, of mix-use adjacent to the suburbs. First floor retail, apartments, townhomes, condos. Springing-up all over. So when one does have that sudden urge to see other humans be it at a pub, a restaurant, or the purple-haired-weirdo employment center known as Pet-Co/Smart, they can walk, ride a bicycle, or unplug their EV.
Coupled with inflation and rising interest rates, the familial classes who want nothing to do with crime-ridden cities and who prefer the education opportunities of the burbs will have to be content with living in the aforementioned apartments, condos, or townhomes located in the burbs (brought to them by BlackRock, et. al.)
But then again, anything is better than a non-elite-class family trapped in the thunderdome of a modern city.
I see a lot of apartment blocks springing up in suburban areas.
No doubt these are earmarked to house all the wonderful new ISIS, Al-Shebab, MS-13, and Los Zetas folks the regime is planning to import.
They’re going to the cities and the original old-home suburbs within the city limits. The 1930’s through 60’s homes that predate the burbs.

We are seeing panics in northern cities when a few bus loads of them are carted there. They cannot afford the new folks, they cannot even handle their homeless.

Likely, I escaped a bit inland to the more rural region of this state. Cities are close, but not too close and not too big.
Still, keeping a watchful eye on it, figuring those people need to be housed somewhere.

That and many of the towns in these rural areas are decrepit and desolate.

I disagree with JHK relative to the economy. The economy is not being destroyed never to return. Every industry lost, every job being lost is replace by one that is part of the illicit trades. It is self feeding, the more legitimate jobs lost, the more need for alcohol and drugs, and the illicit trades bloom. Blacks are already fighting back against the encroaching Latinos in Chicago. Denver, for example, is on the I25 drug conduit and it’s influx of young folks is inflating its prices to the unaffordable point for Joe Everyman.

Homeless? We’ve got a lot of overpasses.

Speaking of those who are not self-sufficient… The military base in my town seems to have hosted some sort of exercise yesterday. On Wednesday afternoon a “command” plane flew into town. Yesterday morning that plane flew to Nevada/Utah and returned to circle the air base for hours. At the same time, a spy plane based in Nebraska flew by on it’s way towards Alaska (it went off flightradar24.com somewhere around Glacier Bay) and was followed by a refueling plane from the local airbase. Meanwhile a refueling plane flew from the Tampa area into the local air base and another refueling plane left the local base and flew in circles over Montana for hours. We are insane and are definitely lacking any “intelligence” agency.

Wood lots of sufficient size can be managed sustainably. Small acreages (5-10 acres) are often about half woodlands–which have been left as woodlands because they are not tillable, due to being steep slopes, rocky glades, or rocky bluffs. (That’s probably why these lots were broken up into small acreages in the first place; much of their land area was undesirable as farmland.) The new owners usually don’t cut down the woodlands, as they don’t want to mow ten acres.
Depending on the size of your woodlot and how much firewood you need, much or all of your firewood needs could be supplied by deadfall.

My facebook friends are all posting pictures of the 20 pounds of tomatoes and 10 pounds of peppers they picked today. They are not letting this stuff rot on the kitchen countertop; it’s going in the canner or the freezer. It’s a busy time of year, since all this stuff must be turned into tomato juice, tomato sauce, whole canned tomatoes, roasted peppers, canned peppers, pickled peppers, peppers preserved in olive oil, or salsa. Over winter, all this (along with all the other fruits and vegetables) will be turned into some very fine fare–with the addition of the beef and venison, pork and goat and mutton, and chickens and turkeys culled from the flock, and maybe a Christmas goose.
Beats spending “tedious yet anxious hours/days/weeks” freezing your ass off with no food in the house and two feet of snow on the ground.

Back when George Bernard Shaw (as I recently learned, by actually seeing and hearing him say the words in a very old but still legible recording, was playing mouthpiece for the Astor family, he was openly opining that people should have to present themselves before what can only be described as a death panel every year or two.

There was a very crass BBC propaganda programme recently, called ‘Unvaccinated’, which put some unvaxxed ‘weirdos’ in a house together to try to figure out their unvaxxed weirdness. (UKC also did some detailed burrowing on who exactly Dr Hannah Fry – the presenter – is and the unacknowledged affiliations of the doctor they were taken to in case any of them changed their silly unvaxxed minds (they didn’t). Anyway, Dr Hannah claimed 4 million Brits weren’t vaxxed (to make them sound fringe and weird), but Professor Fenton pointed out that the government’s own ONS figures show that almost 19 million adult Brits aren’t vaxxed at all, which (a) must be more than a third of the adult population and (b) makes the figure of 94% of covid deaths being in the vaxxed population even more stark.
I haven’t heard of said gentleman but will endeavour to acquaint myself. I like catching up with UK Column whenever I have the time to sit down and watch anything (thank you for putting me onto it a long time ago). Brian Gerrish is a gem, as is Mike Robinson, and I like the grassroots nature of it.

Re AstraZeneca, my impression is that it was mostly used for the first two iterations (and people like my husband, who were early on the list, got Pfizer from the get-go because AZ wasn’t yet approved) and that the first boosters onward have primarily been Pfizer. AstraZeneca has been used widely in poorer countries because it was offered at cost ‘until the pandemic is over’. Luckily for them, most of those poorer countries have been less than enthusiastic about the entire vaxx agenda, as wekk as having supply problems, which has left them in the fortunate position of having more knowledge of the consequences.

We’ve had a ridiculous policy with masks. Instead of getting rid of them like many other airlines did long ago we kept them on routes where the host country recommended them on public transport. It continued to be the most pointless, constantly changing, confusing policy until recently when nearly all the crew said “fuck this” and just stopped wearing them.
But no, nothing much on the gossip airwaves (Galley FM as we call it). Business as usual. Lots of chatter from management about sustainability and running planes on hydrogen or unicorn dust etc. but it’s standard big corporation virtue-signalling bollocks for PR more than anything.
I’m learning to ignore it along with all the Pride crap they keep pushing down everyone’s throats and March for Peace (presumably in relation to Ukraine). Vomit. So I was out to lunch this afternoon at my favorite burger joint. As I was eating in the patio section, I noticed a family leaving comprised of a husband, mother, and their two darlings. After the mother had both children safely buckled up in the rear section car seats of their mid-size SUV she proceeded to sit in the back seat between them. This left the father figure to serve as nothing more than a glorified chauffeur to the family, with an empty front passenger seat. Very sad to see that this is what the state of manhood and fatherhood has become. The look on his face as he drove away appeared to be rather full of despair.

This is a very negative view of children. When small children cry and fuss it’s invariably because they are hungry, thirsty, tired, and have a wet or dirty diaper. Or they may be hurt or sick. If you take proper care of the kids, you won’t have a problem.
My youngest daughter literally never cried until she was about six months old. Granted, this is very unusuall in a kid, but wtih small children, “screaming kids” means you’re a shitty parent, unless there are circumstances beyond your control.
Kids do reach an age where some behaviors need to be curbed, such as deciding to climb up onto the roof and crawl around before they’re old enough to walk, escaping from the house and crawling several blocks down Antioch Road, or escaping from the back yard by climbing a chain-link fence and running across the street, dropping their diaper in the neighbor’s yard and climbing another chain-link fence to visit with thier dogs. Kids will also do things that are deliberately naughty, as opposed to just overly adventurous. I never found spanking to be effective.

Reminds me of my late mother-in-law. We’d be driving down Antioch Road in Overland Park, Kansas, and she’d look out the car window, see some woman she didn’t even know, and remark, “She’s put on a little weight.”

On the other hand, maybe I’m being a little too harsh. It is very difficult to govern one’s thoughts. There is a constant temptation to think ill of people and to give way to brooding and thinking angry and negative thoughts about people in general. Old people are especially susceptible to this.
I once mentioned to my daughter that I often found myself thinking critical thoughts about other people when I was in church–that they’re fat or wearing a tacky outfit. My daughter replied, “That’s why I keep my head down when I’m in the communion line–so I won’t look at someone and think bad thoughts about them.”
Governing your thoughts is a task we have to undertake. Everything–evil words and bad actions–starts in the mind. You have to get the mind under control, assuming you don’t want to be a little bitch.
I personally think that these evil thoughts are satanic attacks. They don’t even necessarily come from within yourself, though you may have certain weakness that a “satanic attacker” can easily exploit, such as a tendency to anger or pride on certain points. The best strategy is to treat them as satanic attacks. When you experience this, it is good to say the prayer to St. Michael, or just pray, “St. Michael, defend us in battle.” You are in a battle to defend your mind against these satanic intrusions.
Seriously, again, why does the sight of a couple with young children cause you to react by thinking of them (and referring to them here) sarcastically as “the little darlings”?
You know they ARE little darlings, right? They are the beloved children of God. And you, as a manifestation of the divine in the world, will properly see them as beloved children.

I find her about as interesting as I found the homecoming queens in 1960’s high school interesting. Anyone interested in what a *real* queen is like, and history has produced them every now and then – look up Elizabeth I. Wikipedia will do fine. Liz I was not a “smile and wave” type person. She was a fierce, hands on manager with a lot of charisma and skill. I you made serious problems for her, she could do to you what she did to Mary Queen of Scots. Lock you up for a while in a dungeon and then have you executed. She presided over a prosperous and artistically creative era called “Elizabethan”, and was a fan of Shakespeare I believe. She was actually running things very well, she was not just parading around and waving.
Another interesting royal alpha female who was basically running running an empire was princess Sophie of Bavaria, sometimes called the “tigress of Bavaria”. People learned to stay out of her way when she was archduchess of Austria.

All children should receive four doses of the polio vaccine. The first dose is administered between 6 weeks and 2 months of age, the second dose is given at 4 months, the third at 6 months to 18 months, and the fourth dose at 4 to 6 years old.
Adults who have only received one or two doses should get the remaining one or two. Health officials said it doesn’t matter how long ago the first doses were given.
My main point is I don’t believe what’s in the vial anymore, I see no reason why they aren’t putting their mRNA crap in there…who would know? No doctor or nurse that administers them at a clinic oversees the production of what’s in the vial…they just open it and give to the patient after reading what it says on the box.

Thanks. I’ll have to look into it. But as it says, his religion was a private matter. His official work seemed to tie into and support the growing Media dominance in the Western World, obviously a necessary precursor to Globalism.

McLuhan’s famous “the medium is the message” ties in very well to the current and growing backlash against media propaganda by those who can still discriminate, especially his idea of “hot” and “cool” mediums.
TV is cool, because the process of viewing it is passive, perfect for implanting bullshit like poisoned water in a spongy brain. It’s not just that easily falsifiable and ridiculous “news” stories are rife, but that TV itself — the medium — is conducive to one becoming a mouth breather.
And as other propagandists have learned since McLuhan, it only takes 7 repetitions of an egregious lie for it to become “truth” in the majority of those who view it.
Radio, however, is a “hot” medium, which is why you see more intelligent conversation among those who get info from good radio/podcast sources. It’s participatory, the mind is more actively engaged (not stupefied and brainwashed by subliminal images).
Even newspapers are better than TV since with a newspaper you can pause and reflect, impossible with a TV. Who pauses their TV and reflects on bullshit? On the contrary, people will often channel surf even the shows which have narrative build-up instead of the usual fractured, disjointed presentation.

I am pretty sure. Back when I lived in Ontario, I’d see a school bus full of young Mexican men. They’d fly up and work the apple orchards east of Toronto. Sometimes I’d run into them on their school bus weekend excursion to the Metro (super-market). But it was pure seasonal.

We have a Black Bear roaming around here, and a few weeks ago I saw what I think was a Timber Rattler (now I know why on ancient maps this area was known as Rattlesnake Mountain. Across the Ct River, on another Rattlesnake Mountain in another town, two dogs were bit by a Rattler; both survived) Rattlesnakes seem to be making a comeback, along with Copperheads, bears, foxes, coyotes, and Bobcats. Haven’t heard about any wolves yet. 20 years ago the only thing I worried about was Mike Tyson’s tigers getting loose. I kept my Winchester .30-30 close by but will a .30-30 round stop a 600 lb. White Tiger? I wouldn’t want to test it. Anyway, despite all that, what brought me down was 3 bee stings while clearing out brush. Swelling, stinging pain, but no hives or my throat closing up so I couldn’t breath, which happened to a guy in town early in the summer (he’s dead). I think I’ll call it a day.
You can use honey or baking soda on those stings. Thank goodness you’re not allergic! It sounds like the wild is taking back over there. The other day I was in my back yard I saw a giant snake but I don’t know what kind. Oh and I saw another deer the other day. This time she was much closer in the yard and we just looked at each other for a while and she just went on about her business. It seems like they are taking over too. And the other day there was a big flock of black birds which is unusual and im pretty sure it means winter is going to be really cold and severe this year.

Well it may be relative I guess. So like to me a super duper cold winter is when we have longer stretches were temps at night get into the 30s and sometimes even the 20s and in the daytime its like in the 40s and 50s. Even in those types of winters you will still have alot of days were its in the 60s and 70s and 50s and 40s at night. The landscape does remain primarily green throughout the year but the oaks and ash and sweet gum and pecan trees do lose their leaves for the wintertime.
Sounds like NM, but with humidity. I still remember distinctly that in South Georgia, down Valdosta way, the only two months I considered reasonably livable were Jan and Feb (We had one Christmas there where it hit 90′). The rest were just too damn hot and sticky for this white boy.

I think it was neurodoc who mentioned Mattias Desmet on the previous thread.
If anyone is interested, Peter and Ginger Breggin (who co-authored Covid 19 and the Global Predators – We are the Prey, an excellent companion to Kennedy’s Fauci book), have written an article criticising his mass formation theory and Robert Malone’s endorsement of it, as being a case of victim blaming, rather than concentrating on the actual predators behind the whole thing.
He reckons Desmet considers blaming organised global elites also a variety of mass formation conspiracy theory (from his Psychology of Totalitarianism book, which I haven’t finished – so can’t confirm – rather than from his interviews).
Dr Breggin is a psychiatrist – can’t remember his wife’s specialty.

I like Desmet, but I don’t really put that much stock in the concept of mass formation.
I have always thought and said that without control of the media, the planners would never have gotten this far.

I have not read any of the books in question and I only saw Breggin once or twice, recently, with Catherine Austin-Fitts. I listened to perhaps six or seven Desmet intefviews, some more than once but only one of them recently. (The best was with Corbett and another good one was with John Waters.)
I was surprised by Breggan’s attack on him and even more so by Austen Fitts’s. It had never occurred to me that the victims were being blamed.

Waters has been talking about hypnosis of the people for two years now (he accepted there was a virus at the very start but quickly changed his mind, as I expected). But this is done by an elite which does the hypnotising. Most accept that people are ‘asleep’ but do not examine it too deeply.
Desmet comes nearer than anyone else to my own view. I think he is serious, intelligent and without malice and he seems to base his theories on the academic ‘literature’ going back to Gustav Le Bon and beyond. He is largely right and I think Richard Webster would have been impressed if he were alive.
My memory of Le Bon’s most well known book is firstly that people in a crowd (or as Desmet would put it, in ‘mass formation’) are inferior in every way, including judgment, to those who are not. The other is his anecdote about the Parisian mob which headed to the Bastille with little idea of what it wanted. The commander of the garrison came out and surrendered to them. They were at a loss until an apprentice butcher was found who cut his head off and they paraded it around the city for a couple of hours. I think they ended up placing it on the stage in a theatre.
Desmet draws on the standard theories of totalitarianism it seems and this is where the problem is since I believe that they will have got this wrong just like they got history and everything else wrong.
He places too much emphasis on Hitler’s Germany rather than Stalin’s terror state (although I sense he played down the German angle later). He relies too heavily on Hannah Arendt, who wrote about the Eichmann trial in Jerusalem and, while she wrote about a large part of the eye witness testimony being off the wall, still could not see what was happening. He also claims that those who are more resistant to mass formation are more diverse than those who succumb and citing the Drefusards (those who schemed to have Dreyfus released) in support. The Dreyfus affair was a hoax but very cunning in places.
This all touches on a very important issue: to what extent are those who are perpetrating the present outrage doing it consciously? Desmet says that those who are at the top in these situations are even more under the inffluence of mass formation, more deluded, than the masses.
In Ireland, for example, I suspect that the leadership do not a bull’s notion what they are doing. but then again perhaps some of tohem do. This is where you need insider information, those close to them, who write their biographies etc.
i find the Breggan incident interesting from a psychological point of view, juist like Reiner Fuellmich’s exclusion from the ‘Ausschuss’, the criticism of Ardiss (and others) for being a ‘shill’. A large number of commenters on Bitchute claims that practically everyone is a shill. And if these fools point their fingers at the elites does that make them victims as perahps Breggan and AF suggest? The latter fear that the elites may escape scot free (pardon the expression) by claiming diminished responsibility but if the mob strings up the wrong people what good will that do?
Just to clarify, I always looked at it from Desmet’s angle and I saw it as an unconscious irrationality. Fro the last year and hafl I have become a conspiracy theorist because there is clearly a huge conspiracty. But I don’t know how it works and I am uneasy being in their company sometimes.
A fourth thing that interests me (I could not think of it just now) is the suggestion that those who question the very existence of viruses (in general, not just this one) are suspicious and have appeared out of nowhere.

You put a lot in your previous post about the Breggin/Desmet question, so I’ll probably have to answer it in bits, as I’m listening to various things at the same time (which really means jumping from one thing to another). I almost wish video platforms didn’t have a side bar with endless other related videos because there is lterally too much to listen to!).
For the virus/no virus question, I have no clue, not being a virologist or even a scientist. But my interest is piqued enough to have just bought The Truth about Contagion (Cowan and Morell – Cowan is one of the group that has lately convinced Mike Yeadon of the no-virus hypothesis) and Turtles all the Way Down – Vaccine Science and Myth (can’t recall the author).
A couple of things are problematic, even if the no-virus hypothesis (re all viruses, I mean, not just covid) turns out to be true. One is that broadening the issue takes attention away from the absolutely urgent matter of confronting the current onslaught on our minds and bodies from the people ultimately responsible for covid, the poison shots and the agenda around dystopian biosurveillance. Joe Public can only take in so much information at once, so I think it has to be first things first.
The other is that the deeper we dive into possible overarching lies and/or misunderstandings/wrong theories, the easier it is to lose people who still don’t even understand that covid was a hoax and the vaxxes are deliberatly damaging to health. I have had this experience with my brother, who is otherwise cleverer than I am, but whose brain glazed over as soon as I suggested anything that is happening is deliberate and organised. Sometimes you have to be careful not to muddy the waters, even when the ‘mud’ is valid. It gives succour to media hacks. All they do in some articles is point and snigger that ‘these people actually believe x, y, z’ without even having to prove or disprove anything at all. Just pointing and laughing works on its own for their readers. ‘Imagine thinking the WEF/WHO/UN/banking cartels were trying to take over the world – hahahaha!’

My post went on too long and I ended up just putting ideas out there (as they say) and I was contradicting myself in the end. If I were to write it again now it would be quite different, and different again tomorrow I expect.
I take your point about stretching the credulity of the public. I don’t know if anything will work with them, though, particularly here in Ireland.
As for elsewhere a pair of Dutch holidaymakers, who had missed the bus back to their hotel, asked me last week to use the toilet. Well, one of them, and in the meantime I was speaking to her friend at the door. I had just returned with a suitcase full of tinned food from the supermarket just across the road and she wondered if I was on holiday too. I told here what it was for but I think she missed it in translation.

She was a nurse and had seen what it did to ;patients. Me: funny how the flu disappeared. Then I tried to think of a Dutch sceptic. What about Willem Engel? I asked. Laughter, he cannot be taken seriously. Actually, he is a dance teacher, wears a pony tail and sounds like an old-fashioned soft and cuddly Lefty, except for his views on the present crisis.
I was thinking earlier today that someone should check into Prof Desmet (I expect this has already happened so I may take a little look) and see if he is dodgy regarding funding or whatever. I am fairly naive in assessing character.
On balance my own feeling would be to go for what is true, or rather what I believe to be so.

When I used to read books I used to have a good dozen on the go at the same time. Took ages to finish them. (Richard Webster would turn in his grave at that one.) there has to be some kind of a cononection between the too. John Waters was pressing Desmet on the issue of an elite deliberately brainwashing the masses but i don’t recall a clear response to this. You might let us know if his book clarifies it.

Actuallly, I copyedited one of his books.
I have a problem with Desmet and his theory.
IMO the problem with it is *not exactly* victim blaming but what looks to me like an ahistorical theory. Desmet has managed to hijack a lot fo the commentary but is not helping the push to reveal the actual perps of the covid op.
Desmet says that the whole thing is unplanned, and arises from some ideology that has the world in its grip.
Me: The red flag on the whole thing is EXACTLY the degree to which is was planned. Am I the only one who was surprised at how quickly all of those signs and little video things in the PO etc. saying the same thing were rolled out across the land? “Maintain social distancing; wash your hands; wear a mask to keep yourself and others safe” Everywhere. It was planned. This was clear from Event 201 and plenty of other evidence.

Yesterday was standing on a wharf in Positano Italy watching a ferry desperately trying to dock despite the seas causing it to pitch 12+ feet and listening to a California bloviating to a couple of limeys about how California is now averaging 4-5h a day without power and wondering if he has any idea why that is. A week from today, Sept 17, will mark the 8th anniversary of my brother’s sudden death at his home in Miramar, FL. I am a believer that our only existence after death is in memory and so I like to keep him alive in this way.
His ashes are stored in a pyramid I had just finished building an hour before the phone rang on Sept 22, 2014. The call was from a detective who informed me Armand had been dead on the floor for 5 days. This was determined from the dates of newspapers piled up at his front door.
My brother’s hobby was saving money. I don’t think he had any specific plans to spend it. He just wanted to run up the total of his investments which he had enumerated in a spreadsheet that he had updated a mere hours before dying. He was frugal to a fault. And speaking of temperatures and air conditioning, the detective’s investigation noted that the AC was set at 83 degrees. While clearing out his place in preparation for sale my wife and I cranked the AC temp down to 70.
More memories of brother Armand may be forthcoming.

Remember a few years ago the presence of a frightening, giant super bee was announced, big as a hummingbird, stinger like an ice pick, and as aggressive as a pitbull? They were active on the west coast, headed east. It caught my attention but I haven’t heard anything about those bees since.
Bees and hummingbirds both buzzing my sunflowers as I tended to them today. They both seemed nice enough, I assume they thought so too, as I was not put out in any way. Sometimes myths are just myths.
Here, squirrels rip the heads off the sunflowers and carry them off.
They’d have a hard time getting up there. Mine are over 8′ tall. But they’ve only got another 30 days or so of glory, after which they’re all coming down for house painting.
Besides, the squirrels much prefer crawling up into parked cars and gnawing through anything rubber or plastic. They’re right down there with the deer on my shit list, but they’re even more elusive. Need to get me a rat terrier, I guess.

The Chinese murder hornets! Supposedly they kill around 200 or so people in China each year. They are big as hummingbirds and look horrifying. The media used them to scare us a whilie back with yet another bogeyman that’s a gonna git us! The news claimed that some had been found on the west coast, presumbably having arrived out of shipping crates from China. I was interested in them because I’ve had first hand experiences with the so called “European hornets” that are established here in the US. These arrived long ago from Europe as stowaways on ships, and they are scary enough. They look like junebug sized yellow jackets, are attracted to light at night, and make a very loud buzzing sound. Their stings are very bad and painful. If you have one indoors buzzing around a lampshade you’ll stop whatever you are doing and go looking for a can of wasp spray or Raid.
That’s it, Woodchuck! We started hearing about them just as Covid Panic began to ease a little bit. Then, strangely, the whole meme disappeared, until it returned about a year later in the form of “Monkeypox.’

I do have to admit that I’ve known some female “horrible bitches,” though the only one I can think of offhand would be my late mother-in-law. Then there is our military training and support. What a great job they did! Twenty years, twenty and they never even won the majority of the country, never slowed the production of opium (another rotten subject), never really trained much of anyone to keep the bad guys at bay. The Taliban took control in a fortnight. The evacuation was criminally done. 13 folks lost their lives to more incompetence.
Yet here we are again, “celebrating” this debacle, flying flags, calling names, and again not doing one damn thing to quell the tide of international terrorism, AKA anti Americanism.
Let’s see. Islams hate “Satan”. China wants to take the US down. We just keep poking Russia with a hot brand. Watching Fox this AM. They had their typical line up of GOP Deep Staters on talking about how the Dems are screwing everything up, inflation, border, you name it.
It dawned on me. A year ago, the polls showed the GOP leading like crazy because of the bad attributes of the Dems program. Since then the Dems have managed to surpass them in some polls. Fox polls. WTF? then boom, it hit me. The folks, many of the CFNers too, are looking for answers, just like with Afghanistan, from the GOP side of DC. There are none being offered. Nothing. One guy, Trump, stands out as trying things differently during his four years. Beyond tax reform nothing happened. The moderate GOP is worthless! Talking heads with no ideas, do not get me wrong, so are the Dems, but everytime they do something stupid, the public notes their “leadership” and moves in their direction. I guess it is better to do something wrong than do nothing.
The GOP needs to just fade away. It is what is happening anyway. The Deep State has effectively cancelled out Trump so there is nothing left. McCarhey and McConnell, boy does that give me warm fuzzies.
Remember Newt Gingrich with his list of ten programs that he committed the GOP to in 1996. Leadership was shown then and Clinton turned into a conservative and the USA steered in a good direction for 4 years.

Bear adventures and bear stories are common for people living in the vicinity of the Great Smokies National Park. If you go hiking in the back country you are bound to encounter them face to face sooner or later. Long time ago I was in a Smokies backcountry shelter and a small group came running towards us at top speed, carrying their packs instead of having them strapped to their backs. The’d been having a picnic maybe 1/4 mile away at a scenic spot and got raided by a bear. They were stopping the critter temporarily by tossing food out of their packs and then running like hell while the bear was checking out what they’d just dropped. He’d been charging at them repeatedly and scaring ’em bad, veering off at the last second.
There was a bear proof chain link fence with a door on the front of the shelter, and sure enough the bear showed up in a few minutes and seemed in a bad mood. We shared some of our food with the group, the bear had gotten most all of it as they were tossing stuff out behind them.
If the shelter hadn’t been there the scene might have got ugly after the unfortunate backpackers ran out of food completely. No doubt that bear had probably done this shakedown routine before and it was mostly bluff. It’s easy to tell these guys they were dumb to keep feeding the bear, but it was all they could think of to stop the chase. They could at least get a few minutes relief that way. What to do when a black bear is hunting you and knows you have food on you? Outrun the hikers behind you?
Unfortunately if a black bear is attacking you you really have no choice but to flee and/or fight for your life. They tend to be merciless and relentless. If you have no food and if you literally lay down and play dead chances are you will walk away from a close encounter with a brown bear or a grizzly bear.
I don’t know SSL, if you lay down & play dead, what’s to stop the bear from eating you? There are youtube channels out there based upon hikers, hunters, skiers etc. who go missing in the wilderness never to be seen again — many of them undoubtedly have been eaten by bears, which is why they can’t be found.
Well you’re right at that point there wouldn’t be much you could do. I should have clarified that you lay down, play dead and pray. Because as you point out indeed you can still get mauled or eaten. But the thing is that brown bears and grizzly bears are not as aggressive as black bears. So if they aren’t hungry and they don’t perceive you as a threat they are less likely to attack you. Whereas black bears will attack unprovoked in really any circumstance. But yeah there is no guarantee of anything but worth a try if you have no other choice.
I deal with black bears in my yard and neighbourhood all the time. Cougars around, too.
When they’re aggressive or actually attack:
Bears: play dead or run like hell. Fighting them just pisses them off.
Cougars: kick them in the head and they’ll go away.
It’s the coyotes that worry me. They kill a lot of pets. Ours went out the cat door for her nightly adventures when we were asleep and never came back. Figured it was a coyote that got her.
There’s a very entertaining book out there called “Bear in the Back Seat”. It’s a collection of great bear encounter stories directly from interviews with one group of people most likely to have black bear problems and encounters, and that’s the rangers working in the Great Smokies National Park.
One ranger had a tranquilized bear wake up in the back of his ranger car. He was transporting it that way because the pickup truck with a cage in back was unavailable at the time, and the bear had to be moved quickly before he woke up. Anyhow, the tranquilizer dose was too low and the bear woke up in his back seat.
Another time a mismanaged bear got accidently locked inside a park campground women’s restroom. Unfortunately there was a women inside using one of the stalls, and the rangers had to yell at her through the windows to stay inside her stall. Something had gone wrong with the lock on the front door, and they didn’t have the key right then to unlock it from the outside. The story ended with the woman yelling and running in one direction away from the restroom and a scared bear running in the other direction. I think they had to bust the door down. The woman inside was naturally terrified about finding herself locked inside a bathroom with a bear in there with her.
Once every while, a newbie to rural life will take out the weekly trash 5 hours ahead of pick-up. Black bear bonanza! Their yard and the road is strewn with evil-smelling garbage.
Bears love to stroll through open patio doors, open the fridge, and empty the contents.
Raccoons usually scatter when anyone shows up, but they’re also bold. One hot afternoon, I was in another room, heard a strange sound, and went into the kitchen. Raccoon chowing down at our cat’s food bowl. I just missed kicking the fucker’s ass on its way back out the (yes) carelessly open patio door without the screen slid across it.
SF, our bears know how to open car doors. They’ve entered a few cars in the past year. Also, yesterday, a bear showed up at a kids birthday party in suburban West Hartford, chased the guests inside the house, and commenced eating the birthday cake lol.
That’s a good bear story, with a happy ending.

And now I think i understand what a bear proof roll cart is but its still a liitle hard to imagine because it seems like a bear is strong enough to get into just about anything. The roll-carts are reinforced and very strong – and HEAVY to move. I’ve encountered many bears giving the old style carts a workover. Quite a sight. They’re very playful and seem to enjoy the challenge. Yes, I offered the bear one of my Paulaner Octoberfest Biers to get him to open up. He was quite receptive after that. Tried to eat the damn mug too, though.
Most bear encounters have happy endings, usually with them up a tree, and a Game and Wildlife guy or gal with a tranquilizer dart gun to bring him down. By the way, brown bears and black bears are both known as ‘black bears.’ Some ‘black bears’ are brown, that’s all. Fortunately, we don’t have any grizzlies this far south, who are legitimate threats to life and limb.
Well black bears are actually a separate species of bear from both brown bears and gizzly bears. I pwomise! It is interesting that their behavior hasn’t been more threatening in your experience but then again if they are exposed to people over and over it makes sense they would be less fearful and thus less aggressive.

Both sexes, of course, were always necessary for us to climb to the top of the food chain and stand here uncontested for an epoch or 2. Men hunted and lifted/moved heavy things while women tended the fire and the off-spring. That’s “the date that brung us to the dance.”
