Something ominously foul rides the late summer breeze as our country, and Western Civ with it, tilts into the season of growing darkness. Can you sense it? Death is in the air, and not in the usual Halloween vaudeville mode, either, with the cackling lawn zombies and top-hatted, tap-dancing skeletons. This ain’t no foolin’ around.
We have never been so unprepared for a calamity in plain sight and that is because the people who run things have made it happen in combined acts of wickedness and stupidity. After decades of mere racketeering, arranging things so as to bankrupt anyone who gets seriously ill, corporatized health care now presides over a harvest of medically-induced death, pretending dumbly that there is nothing to see.
Get this: the people are seeing it now, and talking about it, and there will be no stopping their discovery of exactly what has gone on, or their wrath in the afterwash. The chief architect of this epic debacle, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Captain Queeg of American Public Health, has announced his exit from the scene “to pursue the next chapter of my career.” He was coy about what that might be. I think the job title is: defendant. It will be a milestone in human history to witness The Science itself go on trial, should it live long enough. What awaits to take its place? Viziers with wands and pointed hats? Crones riding broomsticks against a cold, lifeless moon? A principality of dark magic? Descent into the underworld?
The medically-induced termination of life at large scale accompanies the current effort to provoke the suicide of culture and nationhood — more orchestrated depravity and folly. Institutions are turned against us like flame-throwers. The FBI might break down your door next in its quest to suppress dissent. The composers of official mind-fuckery never sleep, assuring that you will not know which end of anything is up. Your purblind legislators just set 87,000 new IRS agents on your asses, as if that was any sort of a good idea. The courts exist to protect The Party, but which party? (What does it matter, at this point? quoth Hillary Clinton.) Take your pissant complaints about those alleged constitutional rights someplace else, like Twitter and Facebook, where they can be expunged as soon as you hit the “post” button. You’ll be dead soon, anyway.
We’ve heard ad nauseam that the Washington DC insiders, the denizens of that demi-mythic Deep State in the wealthiest metro area of all the land, look down on the rest of America. Why is that? I’ll tell you. Because the DC confederacy of grifters has gotten fat off your suffering as they have systematically wrecked and looted that rest of America, the sinking middle-class. They are living in fabulous comfort off your bamboozlement and ruin. Their contempt for you grows on your tragic breakdown like fungus on a once-mighty fallen tree. They prevailed in this world and you didn’t. You chumps are in Palookaville on your way to the bone orchard, and therefore they are better than you, ha ha ha.
There is another side of this life, in case all that has got you demoralized. That is the side where human beings say things that comport with reality, where people mean what they say and use language as if it evolved to describe things and doings with some exactitude — as in this is this and that is that… and not the inverse or opposite. That is the side of life where pretending is not the highest-and-best use of human intelligence. I know, these days it’s hard to imagine that side of life, but it’s actually still there, waiting to be reanimated.
The regime that has turned our world inside out in its Satanic pursuit of comfort and power will be stripped naked and judged, if not by official judges, then by an unstoppable consensus. The sore-beset public will take an inventory of what has been lost and begin reconstructing a scaffold of shared life that rewards fidelity to the way things actually work. It will be a rough passage out of what amounts to a hostage crisis. There will be friction and heat. You will not be comfortable, but you will be dauntless. You will certainly not have nothing or be happy about that. You will have, at least, a restored memory of what it was like to strive honorably for a life worth living.
We’re in the crucible of all that just now, where everything is white hot. Do not bend or melt. Soldier through. Be men and be women (there is truly nothing in-between, and do not fall for faithless inducements to doubt that). You are brothers and sisters in an enterprise worth saving and you have a history worth defending. Believe it.

And in true Biden fashion, he screwed over one of his cousins in the end.

People like me–and perhaps the ladies in general–who have never owned a gun might find it easier to start out with a .22 rifle, just to get comfortable with guns.
I found that I quickly became comfortable with my .22 and fell into the habit of keeping it next to me on the porch. I think most of developing accuracy is a matter of feeling comfortable with your gun. (That and adjusting the sights.) As soon as I got over being anxious about shooting, I found that I could hit something.
Part of what got me over my anxiety was realizing that a .22 is basically a pop gun. It’s not easy to kill even a rabbit with it. Another good thing about a .22 is that you don’t need ear protection.
Some of us noobs need to take it slow on the high-caliber stuff.
But I do want to try for a deer with my AK eventually. My son-in-law tells me that you see them everywhere around here in the fall–like, I could shoot one while lounging around in the back yard. But, to be honest, I’m expecting him to take care of the deer hunting.

Permit me to disagree.
A good, single shot, bolt action 22 of supreme accuracy, such as the Anschutz model 64 is my weapon of choice. I can usually hit a quarter at 65 yards with over 90% probability of a first round hit…on a quarter…at 65 yards…something huge, like a cantelope? 100+ yards never an issue.
Quiet, deadly, cheap to shoot and practice with. I have an upscale Litton NV scope on one of mine.
I am considering a thermal scope…not cheap.
There are innumerable scenarios that come to mind where the larger calibers and multiple rounds are needed…you and I would probably die in one of those, irrespective of what we might have on hand.
Me, I’m just waiting for those goddamned cantelope to try something….

But mostly, right now, we are all just getting THRIFTY, and I don’t mean Thrifty Liquor, which is a chain down here. But here is the thing with “thrift” – when everybody is thrifty, you can get a monster called, The Paradox of Thrift! I learned about it in college. If me, and other people forego the Starbucks order, then Starbucks suffers, and baristii are laid which further decreases demand.

It’s fine if frivolous things like that go under. Luxuries are not necessities after all. The important thing is to focus on important industries.

Penelope, I have spent decades in the system and am and was a master of paperwork and I can assure that the only paper that has any value anymore is toilet paper. Jim is right, it is coming for us and it will not be stopped by words or papers or even violence on our part.
I once was caught out at sea in a 100-foot commercial fishing boat in a terrible gale with 36′ seas (that’s 36 feet above the water and 36′ below). Our ship steamed East only a half an hour, but when the storm hi, it took 3 hours to get back to port. At the worst part, even the captain was fearful that we would not make it back, the sea and the storm were so terribly powerful and wicked. We were blessed to have been able to ride it out and crawl back to where we started.
THAT is where we are headed as a species, and we too shall be blessed to not fall victim to the vile, evil ones that hunt us and have loosed the hounds of hell upon us now in a final push for total domination. “The ring cannot be destroyed, Gimli, son of Gloin, by any craft that we here possess”. In the face of all the Impending Doom blowing on the Fall Wind, it is important to have some good news.
The Little Weasel is resigning his current title in only a few more months? To move to a higher paid position in Pfizer? The good news is that he was recently diagnosed with COVID. After presumably being “fully vaccinated”, double boosted, and then treated with the experimental and totally ineffective Pfizer Paxlovid pill. The bad news is that the COVID he tested positive for is the Omicron variety which has mutated into a disease with a death rate similar to than the seasonal flu.
In the same week that it was announced that Dr. Fraudski had recovered from his brush with COVID. the CEO of Pfizer also contacted his COVID. Unfortunately it appears that he will survive to enjoy his new yacht. (Great deals on seized Russian mega yachts right now,)
And then we come to The Big Guy. A few months ago he scolded the American public. “Just take your vaccine. You won’t get COVID and will protect your children and Grandma from getting it. He just recently emerged from 17 days in isolation, having not only tested positive for COVID but become highly symptomatic. His handlers were becoming nervous that the public might become concerned due to his prolonged absence in the run-off to the upcoming mid-term election circus, so they decided to schedule a public speech They ordered Biden’s doctors to diagnose him as fully recovered and cleared to appear in public. Unfortunately after a few sentences he became overcome with a coughing fit so severe that he could not continue his teleprompter speech.
As anyone can clearly see, OBiden’s health is reflective of his advanced age. Advanced dementia, short term memory lapse, balance control issues, and problems reading the teleprompter.
He has been quadruple injected with the Pfizer experimental spike protein enhancer, which among other things has the effect of drastically suppressing the natural immune system and replacing it with short term protection against the 2020 Wuhan variety of COVID which is essentially extinct in the natural environment. The result is that Our President is highly susceptible to all kind of ailments that affect persons of his age, from the common cold to seasonal flu to pneumonia. It is likely that he will die from one of these cause soon, perhaps enhanced by his “doctors.”
If the Biden Hologram dies and is quietly entombed in his beloved basement I will be disappointed. He deserves to be tried for treason, convicted, and die in front of a firing squad while being viewed by all the millions he has swindled and sent loved ones to early deaths. But that will not happen. I’ll settle for him becoming worm food. Sooner rather than later.

When and how will the legacy media (print and television news) finally die and when will the people who actively follow the “beltway political narratives” finally lose faith in those institutions? As long as those folks addicted to the “red vs blue” sport of national politics (on both “sides”) continue to feed on a diet of bullshit from these institutions the slow demise of the nation and the west will continue to rattle on like the ghost of grandpa dragging chains around in the attic or like Joe Biden’s slow rolling decline into dementia as wanders around the white house looking for???… a dog he lost when he was in high school…?
When old Joe gets caught whipping it out and peeing in a potted plant the legacy media will just tell us its part of his green new deal to take a hands on approach to watering the white house plants and escort him back to “Doctor Jill” to give him his milk toddy and tuck him back in, making sure to lock the door this time.
The destruction of said legacy media via legal accountability is the only way forward. Unfortunately before Fauci, Walensky, Nancy, Joe, Hunter and (don’t forget) Mitch can be held accountable for destruction of America, we have to pop that festering boil that is the media. I see Kirsch is suing Media Matters and Malone is suing WaPo. When those cases move and shift the Overton window toward the truth we will see the class actions of the injured making headway and the accountability train will start rolling.
Let us only pray that in our zeal for vindication we do not become the Robespierres of our generation. My wife says no one will ever be held accountable for this poison death shot disgrace. She lives by traditional American Christian values. I think her general optimism blinds her to what is coming.

Yes to justice, not revenge, and yes to planting a fruit tree. Frankly, I’m not holding my breath for justice either, actually. I think we need to focus on building relationships and creating alternatives to the corrupt, toxic systems that are exploiting us now, and I’m not sure we have either the time or the energy to push for justice through those old crooked systems when manifesting the new could take everything we have. Beyond that, I think each of us is being called to assess our own personal contributions to the way things are in order not to go on replicating those in the future.

Funny how what you focus on bubbles up in life. Facing the possibility of a food crisis my wife and I began in earnest revitalize our acreage for our own food production.
I had found a local Florida permaculturist on YouTube talking about planting perennial tropical food plants for a survival garden that “thrive on neglect”… (my kind of gardening!) and as we drove to the nursery to pick up some plants, listening to “Living in the Long Emergency” on Audible what did we hear??? Mark Shepard! Opened our eyes about many things. Thanks again Jim! Listening now to “Restoration Agriculture”.
We’ve stocked up on ammo as well and bought a freeze dryer, but living more locally and self sufficiently is the path to getting through this. Plant some trees and stand ready when the time comes to be part of the solution and remember where we came from and humbly give gratitude to God. Peace of mind (most of the time) will follow.
Methinks some will have the time and energy to inflict a form of justice on those in the medical and political professions when they wake up to the fact that those professions willingly participated in the murder of their loved ones.
Reflect for instance on the justice inflicted on Nazi concentration camp guards. Many were shot on the spot by US soldiers. No higher authority was requested or needed. Murder of innocents motivates some people with time and energy.

Inspiring post, James. There’s no doubt out here in the rural Middle. We will survive. We will be better for it. Eventually, we will thrive again. The pronoun people (bathroom confused) and laptop class are at the root of all of this. They’re already on the downhill side of things. The snowball is gathering speed.

Has anyone else noticed cameras all over the entrance and exit streets to their towns, recording the license plate as they pass?
As I always say, it does not really matter what you do, as long as it is inconspicuous enough to go unnoticed for a long enough period of time. Cameras are only good enough if they are being monitored 24/7 around the clock by someone, otherwise by the time you get away with your act it is too late anyway. You can have as many cameras as you want, but they are a heap of no good if they are not being constantly monitored.

Being bankrupt from a serious illness is no joke. After a long fight with the insurance company, I was approved for Entyvio. Great drug, it has helped me feel so much better. I had three doses on board before the first bill came. My co-pay was $3,486. So in about eight weeks, I incurred about $10k in expense. Here is the real irony. It makes me feel well enough to return to work although I am over 65. All of those post-tax dollars would be expended on getting the drug. I’m going to pass on that deal…..

The little town where I lived until the beginning of this year was one of those little rural communities where housing was very cheap. As such, quite a few of our residents were people who had been bankrupted and lost their homes because of medical bills. Some of them had/have good jobs, and were even very high earners, and were still young enough to bounce back. Some were getting close to retirement when they lost everything and are now biding their time to retire in their much-more-modest digs. (By “much more modest,” I mean a single-wide trailer.)
There is a portion of ones home equity that cannot be taken in foreclosure/bankruptcy, in Missouri. It used to be $16,000, if I remember right, which used to be enough to buy a trailer on a large lot, and is still almost enough. All in all, the little lake community was not a bad place to wash up on the shore of life. The nicer homes there are now selling for up to $200,000. (The place has been “discovered,” kinda-sorta.)
Some residents were people who were very high earners who lost their jobs: e.g., car salesmen whose dealership closed. So they were bankrupted and forclosed on, bought a run-down house for cash and fixed it up. Got another high-paying job and lived mortage-free forever after–or at least until they sold the place for a tidy profit.
Your story is very familiar to me–and that it is an all-too-common story is a scandal. And it very often happens that the victims of medical-establishment fraud are people in their 50s and 60s who have worked hard all their lives, whose accumulated assets of a lifetime are stolen.
Anthea, a couple days ago a local TV station ran a story on the Yacht Club Mobile Home Park in Hollister. A modest park with mostly single wides, and semi-permanent set ups. Many residents add decks, covered porches, car ports and landscaping; popular with retirees and people wanting a place at the lake on a budget.
They have received notice to vacate. It is a four month notice, and they will get some cash from the developers to help with relocation expense. That is a better offer than some in this situation have received.
The developers are from out of state and say they plan a “positive transformation” of the property. I would bet they are planning a bunch of condos to “add value” and doubt they will be cheap to purchase.
Every where older, but still nice rental properties are getting bought, torn down or gut remodeled, then rented or resold for much higher rates. The drive is on to gentrify and add value to every older property or piece of vacant land. And what counts as “gentrification” are some truly ugly buildings that all look vaguely alike. Maybe not Eyesore of the Month ugly, but working on getting there.

I’ve been watching older, inexpensive housing disappear my whole life. When I was in college, I rented one of three upstairs bedrooms in an elderly woman’s creaky old Victorian house. There was a shared kitchen and bath upstairs. Each of the three college girls renting upstairs rooms paid $60/month, which included utilities. All the old Victorian houses in my old college town have been torn down and replaced with luxury apartments for the college kids.
There used to be abundant cheap housing for recent college graduates. There were many rather seedy old apartment buildings in every city, and many old houses where each floor was a separate apartment. You could rent the ground floor apartment (which was huge) and step out onto a front porch surrouded by spirea bushes. For awhile, I lived in a three-story building with about 20 studio apartments on each floor–complete with Murphy bed. Most of these were furnished, if shabbily, and all utilities were paid. Even the phone was provided free. The bank and shopping center were a few steps from the back door, which was never locked. (Neither was the front door.) The bus stop was across the street. Crime was virtually unknown. The rent was dirt cheap.
Most of these places were torn down years or decades ago, or gentrified.
If you were a young person who wanted to move to another city and look for a job and a place to live, you used to be able to rent a cheap room in a residential hotel. (There was a stove and fridge in each room, but the bathroom was down the hall.) Most of the residents were elderly people on Social Security, so these places were quiet and safe. It was a nice setup for the old folks, as there was a TV and lots of comfortable furniture in the lobby, so that’s where they all congregated.
The old residential hotels have also been torn down or gentrified. I have been told that a lot of cities shut them down for health violations (bathroom down the hall). So now we have homeless people living in tents on the street instead.
I’ve had a front row seat to watching old, funky student housing get torn down and replaced with “luxury” student apartments. They are all four stories and look the same.
Once good ole SMSU got the name and mission change to Missouri State, an absolute Niagara Falls of development money came flooding in. Now much of the campus area neighborhood looks and feels so sterile. What remains of old development will probably get “gentrified” soon enough.
Some of the developments are public-private partnerships that always have a whiff of palms being greased and contractors who are university donors getting first crack at projects. Maybe I’m just too cynical.

One daughter and her husband also graduated from there. Another daughter went to college in Springfield for awhile. Yet another daughter worked in a hospital in Columbia–where there seemed to be no student housing at all, other than luxury townhouses.
Three or four years ago (before covid), we noticed huge, rather fancy housing developments being built in Warrensburg. Not student housing. So we wondered where the developers expected this large increase in population and jobs to come from. Still wondering.

The only model I know of for a long-term, working parallel economy is the one adopted by the Amish/Mennonites. (There are a few other such groups around.) You need to take a very uncompromising stance towards the use of most technologies, because every point of dependency–the electrical grid, the city job, ICE transportation (and all the rest)–is, to our overlords, a point of attack. You are dependent on them; they can destroy you.
Doing this requires two things: a community and a common religious commitment. I think you’d have trouble getting many people to commit to a rather austere lifestyle, unless it was a matter of a deeply held religious belief.
The bottom line is that it is impossible to throw off the shackles of institutions you are dependent upon.
It would be pretty tough to convince people to do that, though it is obviously not unprecedented. People don’t seem to “get religion” the way they did in former times, and decide to become Puritans or Quakers or Shakers, and dress funny and talk funny and, in the case of the Shakers, embrace celibacy.
It’s also good to remember that the Amish/Mennonites were severely persecuted in Europe. Anyone deciding to go in for that type of thing shoud not be doing it they expect to avoid trouble that way.
Why not marry up two staples of the American cultural landscape: Amish + gun culture. Any alternative communities are going to have to defend themselves.
I don’t think that would be possible. The basis of Amish culture is the religious belief that supports their way of life and motivates them to endure its inconveniences. It’s the belief that something matters more than my small life, a belief which is at odds with a secular culture. Gun culture isn’t necessarily secular, but its religious beliefs tend to be of the Prosperity Gospel sort which, again, wants its secular pleasures and doesn’t want a way of life that doesn’t provide them.
Any very serious resistance to modern life and its “un-culture” would require a very serious religious commitment–mainly because such a lifestyle would entail great sacrifices.
I don’t know if the Amish have guns, though I would think they would, since, when you slaughter a cow or pig, you normally shoot it. Killing an animal that size takes a pretty heavy-caliber shell. (In Missouri, it is illegal to hunt deer with anything but hollow-points.)
I think the pacifism of the Amish is admirable, insofar as allows them to be conscientious objectors in time of war. I think we all realize that all wars, unless you or your country is directly under attack, are “bankers’ wars.” This is a good reason to be a pacifist in that context.
I’m not so sure about embracing pacifism to the degree that you will not defend yourself, your loved ones, and your home, when they are threatened with violence.
Gun culture in the sense of having an organized militia for defensive purposes seems to me like a good idea. I also see no reason why it would not fit in quite well with a deeply religious ideology. Some religious orders of the past were knights whose job was warfare, such as the Knights of St. John. Some of them were even pirates, such as Jean Parisot de Valette. There need be no inconsistency with Christianity.
We still have the numbers. Here in Germany, there are still quite a few independent farms, and there are plenty of tradesmen and other professionals (medical, etc.) with the will and skills to create a parallel society.
Decoupling from the system is quite possible; it just requires people power.

When I bought my first house back on a state-sponsored first-time home buyer program, although my income was low, I had zero debts. So, my debt-to-income ratio was basically at zero. The program administrator told me that the most common reason low-income people were ineligible for the program was because they had taken on debt to buy a new car. when they tried to sell it to reduce their debt they found that it had lost 1/2 its value the second they signed the loan.
Things may be different with EVs—they may retain their value. Certainly ICE used cars still seem to be selling at a premium.
I sure can’t help wondering at the wisdom of borrowing money to buy one of the new EVs. But of course many who are buying these don’t really need a truck in the first place—say, for work. It is just for macho show + virtue signaling.

Sans battery, they will be light – the perfect high end horse drawn carriage.
The expectation is the Volt battery will last a long time (it was de-rated – oversized – to allow this). Also, that aftermarket (cheaper) will be available when the time comes. I felt I was really taking a chance when I bought a used Volt back in April 2017. But, I had a friend who loved hers. Battery didn’t die in the first 60k miles I have put on it for 100k total. So it passed the first test. Will it get 200kish before 1st batt replacement? That remains to be seen.

I would expect things to work out the same way in the US, probably mainly in the cities. So we have another excellent reason why rural America should not give up its guns.

Let me explain what is happening in so-called Ukraine. For a start “Ukraine” is an artificial construct – created by the bolsheviks.
The eastern part, called Novorussia, historically part of Russia, was added by Lenin in early 1920s, the Western part, by Stalin in 1945, after WWII – that land was taken in war reparations from Poland and Romania, for support they provided to the German Nazis.
Then, in 1954, Khrushev, a Soviet Leader of Politburo, has decided to “gift” them Crimea, which was another historically Russian land. Even under the Soviet constitution at the time, that was illegal as such move required a referendum. He was originally born in so-called Ukraine, so was obviously trying to ingratiate himself with his fellow folks. After collapse of USSR all historically Russian lands should have been returned back to Russia. Ukraine hung on to these for one simple reason – money. Novorussia, which includes Donbass, was the most industrialised part, also they were getting paid by Russia for the Naval Base in Crimea – the home of the Russia Black Sea Fleet. A highly strategic base.
After the USSR collapse, all it’s union republics have suddenly became “independent” and got immidiately “invaded” – by various Western NGOs, “experts”, “advisers” and what not.
Same was happening in Russia – the goal there, of course, was looting and pillage, in Ukraine the goal was also plain and simple – to convert it into an anti-Russia. You know, as per neocon Zbignev Bzhezhinsky wet dream. The US embassy was established in Kiev and duly staffed with CIA operatives. USA does not have diplomats in it’s embassies. Long work began in trying to archieve such goal, with lots of money spent. According to another neocon, Victoria Nuland, it was US$5 billion..in 2014 they felt that the Ukraine was sufficiently converted into anti-Russia and launched their now familiar “regime change”, ousting the democratically elected President and replacing him with their stooges, supported by ukranian neo-nazis. These they were also prepared in advance, by training and arming these murderous nazi thugs. The West did real good job here. The rest we all know.
Crimea organized a Referendum and overwhelmingly voted to return to Mother Russia. Donbass also wanted to do the same but got attacked by Kiev new “government” shock troops. It was genocide. They have embarked on killing civilian population of Donbass, for nothing more than speaking their own language – Russian. Resistance sprang and civil war ensued. From Russian side they were helped with volunteers and humanitarian aid convoys, as Kiev junta have cut them off from everything, including paying pensions. They got bombs instead. Eight long years of this genocide of Donbass population had seen almost 15 thousand killed, many more wounded and millions displaced. Among killed mostly were children, women, elderly.. and it was all hidden from the western public! Instead they were fed the usual narrative of “Russian aggression” BS and this dumbdown and brainwashed western public was swallowing this garbage. Meantime, NATO was de-facto establishing itself in so-called Ukraine and building it’s proxy army there.
In December of last year, Russia has put a “proposal” to the USA and EU to remove it’s NATO shite from there and cease any talk of accepting Ukraine into NATO – that was Russia’s RED LINE. That was ignored. In February this year Russia launched it’s Special Military Operation – to de-millitarise and to de-nazify that corrupt country, that was now a security threat to Russia, by becoming a US/UK/EU colony and slavishly carrying out orders from it’s Masters. At their instigation their clown Zelenski even started to talk of aquiring nuclear weapons for Ukraine.. 4min flight from Moscow! Russia’s Red Line was crossed.
This Russian SMO is proceeding accordingly and all historically Russian territories are being liberated and returned back to where those belong – Russia.
Donbass is pretty much cleansed now of this neo-nazi proxy army, next will be the Nikolaev and Odessa on the Black Sea – those cities are as Russian as it gets. That will leave the rump of “Ukraine” which Russia will decide what to do with after this SMO is over.

I would advice to read your own bona fide American, Larry Johnson or blogs such as Moon of Alabama or Reminiscence of the Future, which is run by a Russian military expert, based in USA who absolutely knows his stuff.

I was offering a Russian perspective to a friend, and he suggested that I should dismiss the perspectives I cited and consider that of Chomsky.
To my surprise (as well as his) Chomsky was basically in agreement with the other sources, where all three viewed the historical circumstances concerning Ukraine as ambiguous in assessing the good and bad guys; and they came to the same conclusion that Putin’s offer was an opportunity to defuse the situation.
When friends, and nations, dismiss opportunities that would be beneficial for individuals, one needs to assume that they are promoting their own agenda.

My conclusion is that most people are married to their position, and it will only be a significant revelation from a source that they deem reliable, that will get them to look and question their perspective.
If Chomsky’s perspective wouldn’t change his mind, I don’t see how any of the sources you cite would either.
I have assumed that when an issue is played-out, people will run out of reliable sources and come to their senses, but as many have discussed here, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
I think it all boils down to time, with indoctrination time being more precious than critical thinking (especially when one is trying to buttress their bogus position).

We had to have some major plumbing work done where I live, and we wanted to use someone we knew, but he was restricted from working in my municipality, for one thing.
Remember the 80s, when going to law school was a big thing, because as blue collar jobs disappeared, law was a field where money was at?
What they didn’t tell you was half of all law school graduates were unemployed and ended up doing something else.
When I had a largish house totally rewired to get it up to code (and get rid of dangerous know-and-tube wiring), I got to see at first hand a team of four headed up by a master electrician.
Man, these people are the modern fire gods. They are handling literally bolts of electricity and fire. They were all whip-smart, but especially the top guy plus his second-in-command, who was preparing for the exams etc. to become a master electrician. The older guy might not have been a college graduate, but he sure as hell was a consummate professional . I think the younger guy, Ian, was a collegel grad. Maybe community college.
But let’s bear in mind: originally the idea of tertiary education was to train and prepare the mind. It was not the same as vocational school. The problem in the USA is that we have no further respect for genuine intellect adn genuine thinkers. Those who call themselves intellectuals have for the most part become as “tame” and “eingespannt” for the official narrative as the intellectuals and academics of the Third Reich. the university has become a “safe space,” not a space for curiosity and continual inquiry and challenge.

There are 3 types, which type are you referring to?
Every now and then, someone posts on Facebook that they are in need of an electrician to come to their home, and they can’t find anyone.
The reason for this is because this entire county is made up of dozens of rural towns, and so is the adjacent county, and another adjacent more urban county is made up of another dozen municipalities. To legally work as an electrician, you’d have to be licensed in every town and three counties. No one can afford that. And without being able to work in all three counties, you couldn’t make a living.
It’s not easy to persuade people to become plumbers. Household plumbing is not even that difficult, especially if it’s PVC or PEX. When you buy a faucet from Walmart or a trim kit from Home Depot, it comes with instructions. Did you know, for example, that replacing a showerhead is exactly like replacing a lightbulb?
In my world of the past 25 years, many people have known how to do their own household plumbing. I replumbed my entire house about ten years ago. My daughter replumbed an entire house that she and her husband were re-habbing. She also re-plumbed their previous house. (This girl plumbed in a new pump when she was sixteen.) Her husband re-wired the entire house. Boy, did it need it. The wiring dated from about 1920.
But the thing about plumbing is, even people who know how to do it usually HATE it. I don’t think there is any occupation in which Murphy’s law figures so prominently. You can’t do a minor repair without discovering another problem that needs repair, or that the repair is more extensive than you thought. You might call a plumber because you house gets all stinky every time you flush or run water. This suggests that the drain lines are missing a P-trap somewhere. You discover that the P-traps exist but do not have an adequte downward slope. HUGE job to fix. And when this doesn’t fix the problem, you suspect a problem with the waste stacks. You discover that there are none. I have never messed with drain lines very much, but my daughter tells me that they are the most troublesome, because everything has to be arranged so that they can “burp,” and this is not always easy to figure out.
Plumbing is one of the few occupations that are unlikely to be flooded with new applicants, no matter how high the pay, because it is a huge PITA. One of my old friends used to say, “Plumbin’ don’t happen without cussin’.”
Plumbing is simple, only three rules – 1) hot on the left 2) cold on the right and 3) stuff doesn’t flow uphill.
I was told that it’s, “Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey, water runs downhill, and payday’s Friday.”
And plumbing really is simple–basically Tinker Toys–almost a ladies’ craft project if it’s PVC, and you’re putting in all new plumbing. It’s those jobs where you are fixing something that are irritating, like replacing the thousand-year-old hot and cold water knobs in an antediluvian bathrub and having to beat them out with a hammer. That and having to run all over two counties trying to find a male adapter.

Last night I was goofing around on You Tube looking at live music concerts, etc. when a suggested video of The Beach Boys popped up. They were jamming around a campfire on the beach with what appeared to be family and friends including small kids, it seemed unrehearsed and unscripted; just singing old songs sometimes out of key, and sometimes forgetting the words. There were no smutty lyrics, suggestive gestures, or political points being made, just people sitting around loving each other and having a good time.
Even some of the older kids seemed to know the songs which were recorded years earlier. It’s sad to think that such a joyful commonplace thing like that seems from an unrecoverable lost era.
I was just thinking of how thrilling it was to see the Beach Boys in concert, and hear the audience joining in on the chorus to Fun Fun Fun.
It was nostalgic even then, and this was the 70s.

I find myself continually fascinated by those who refuse to grasp basic concepts and basic history, which, surprisingly, seems to include a lot of the commenters on this blog.
Basic concept: Deterrence stops enemies. Deterrence is not a moral quest for some ill-defined or civilizationally-defined and thereby amorphous “justice.” It is destroying the enemy such that he knows he WILL be destroyed if he tries it again. If people know there will be no consequences for their actions, they will continue those actions. Which is how we got today’s FBI even after all their lies about FISA, about Hilary, about domestic terrorists they knew about but refused to stop – which is, oh.. ALL OF THEM in the past 20 years, how we got today’s CDC, IRS, CIA, NSA, etc.
Basic history: Western Civ ROSE by killing its enemies, not by wandering around espousing “justice.” Our view of justice – which is OUR, monocultural view – is NOT shared by other cultures and exists BECAUSE WE WON. Because WE defeated ALL the competing cultures in our rise.
Health analogy: When we get sick we destroy the germs. We stay healthy by destroying germs near, around and in us. The Western Body Politic is SICK. It will not survive unless its enemies are destroyed. Put another way – we ROSE when we destroyed our enemies. When we stopped destroying our enemies in the summer of ’45, we began to decline. That decline now is precipitous and it is BECAUSE we stopped destroying our enemies, IT IS THAT SIMPLE.
What is “revenge?” It is destroying an enemy or two to ignite a sense of deterrence, which, we hope, will preclude our having to destroy more, later.
The armchair warrior who insists on “justice” in this war is living in a fantasy world in which WE still run the world and OUR desires are everyone’s general desires, and no one really will argue with us once they understand. It’s the absurdity of “Hearts & Minds.” It is a fantasy based on living in the 1950s, after we’d bounced the rubble of every other major power, and were the only ones with a functioning and productive society.
Those days are OVER. Revenge for killing millions is EXACTLY what is needed for our civilization – the protector of rights that exist ONLY in Western Civ (regardless of the inanity calling them “universal”) – to again rise, demonstrate seriousness, raise MEN again and be taken seriously by world powers.

If you fancy a slightly different atmosphere, Beryl, from my living room I can hear some fireworks going off (it’s Edinburgh Festival month). Unfortunately, it’s been raining all day, and the streets are full of piles of rubbish because the bin men decided it was the best time to go on strike. It’s like the jolly 1970s, except that then I recall the striking council workers at one point included the gravediggers, so it took weeks to get your relatives buried (not a good time for that just now, given the ‘excess coincidence rate’).
I haven’t been into town but it’s apparently horrendous. One street ice-cream seller, profiting from the Festival/Fringe, packed up, saying he couldn’t sell ice cream with such a smell around him. It’s the first Festival in two years and people have come from the other side of the world to walk through an urban midden.
I’ve often wondered what we would do once the rubbish collection service fell apart. I wondered about community handcarts working in relay, so you’d only have to do a mile or so and hand it over to someone else, all the way to the tip! Not that there would be so much rubbish of course.
In Ye Very Olde Days, the (nice) side of Princes St, below the castle, that accommodates the Castle Gardens and Waverley Station, contained the Nor’loch, into which everything from the Old Town drained – and I mean everything – sewage, cattle carcases (cows were kept in the tenements!), the lot. And, if you did something wicked enough, you could be judicially drowned in it.

That is all very sad, but what I learned from a New Yorker article a year or so back is that residents of these mobile home parks do not even own the land their “home” is parked on, they are essentially only renting it.
This opened my eyes to the fact that this is the biggest scam around. The owners of the park know they have their residents coming and going. Yes, they still own their “trailer” homes, but what are they going to do with them when kicked off the property? These things are hardly mobile after they are anchored to the land for a number of decades.
In sum, all very sad and unfortunately that another certain segment of the population gets screwed over in the end.

You are correct, most are rentals, as is the case here. The lease agreement is flexible to allow the porch/deck/carport additions the home owner wishes to build. Lot rents are cheap, making these parks a decent option.I think this park has been there decades, since the sixties-seventies. People lease a lot, figuring anything that has been in place so long, will continue.

In May some developer started construction on 100 apartments, and a 100 unit extended stay hotel. So homes owned by the residents finally get replaced with rental apartments.

People who live in trailer parks are often there because they skipped out on utility bills in the past. In the trailer parks I’m familiar with, the renter pays their utility bills to the park owners, so they don’t need to get utilities in their own name. My impression is that the trailer parks gouge the residents on utilities.
One thing a person can do, if they own the trailer and are renting the lot in the trailer park, is move the trailer to a piece of land they do own. These days, there are not many places where city or county codes will allow a person to set a trailer–though they do exist. Setting a trailer on raw land can get expensive, as you usually need to put in a trailer pad and a septic system, pay for water and electric hook-ups, and put in a culvert and drive. Banks will finance land purchases–with 25% down–but I don’t know how they feel about financing the improvements.

I’m starting to see health repercussions strike my compliant, pro-jab friends, all in their 60s & 70s. They have all had multiple bouts with “covid,” and they regularly express their puzzlement over the fact that I have not had so much as the sniffles in the past ~three years.
One guy had a stroke (but it was a mild stroke!); another got word from his doctor that his problem “is not with his heart, thank God,” yet he still feels persistent numbness in his arms that the blames on sitting at the computer; his wife had some sort of “scare with her blood,” but the doctor assured her there was nothing to see here; another friend tells me he can’t drink booze or smoke reefer anymore because he gets a weird, tingling feeling going up the back of his neck into his head. I’m sure there are more stories, but I haven’t heard them—yet. (These are people who have remained my friends in spite of my being an outlier in our small town, but there are some who ostracized me and labeled me a dangerous extremist right-winger; those people can fuck off and die yesterday as far as I’m concerned.)
It’s a relief that I convinced my wife not to get the boosters. We’re semi-retired (which means we did not reach our mid-60s with a million or more bucks in the bank, so toil we must to pad the SS pension) and she works part-time as a teacher in the local school, where, of course, she was required to get shot up, in her case with the nasty Moderna chemicals. So far, she’s had no obvious adverse reactions, but time will tell.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — A man with a long gun was arrested at the Mall of America on Friday in what mall officials said was an armed robbery attempt, just three weeks after the mall was locked down after shots were fired near a store.
The mall said in a statement that security “immediately became aware of the situation” and arrested the man without incident. It said the mall wasn’t locked down because the arrest was immediate.
The statement referred questions to Bloomington police, who didn’t immediately reply to a phone message seeking further information.
The Star Tribune reported that one of its photo editors, Kevin Martin, was at the mall and saw police arrest a man and take a long gun that appeared to be a rifle.
“They were all over him,” Martin told the newspaper. “I don’t know how they found him or if he walked in with it in plain view.”
Police and mall security escorted the man away. Martin said there was no lockdown alert and no shoppers fled in panic.
The incident came after the mall was locked down Aug. 4 when a man fired shots in front of a Nike store following a fight. No one was injured in that shooting. Two people were later arrested in the case.
I guess I’m just surprised they still have stores. I thought all that mall real estate had been turned over to Community Colleges and geezer walkers.

I think you have already outlined the two possible controlling agents (discount ‘you’) although the latter assumes one is not part of the wild mob doing the burning, looting. (And therefore winning, in evolutionary terms!)
What do lions and hyenas do when antelope and/or territory starts running short on the plains? Do they co-operate in a noble attempt to distribute what remains in a fair and equitable manner? (Is that even possible given animal nature?) Or do they become the wild mob?
The only way to prevent any one faction, country or bloc becoming ‘the mob’ is to control all of them, or better still, eliminate them.

Most things I have read or heard, including the hours of discussion over at the German CA, point toward the Great Reset simply being the culmination of a very long-term plan to creat a one-world system.

Saint Dolly Parton ?
I think Dollywood says more about her in the present , than something she writes about the good old days she has no intention of returning to.
Dollywood is a prime example of gentrification to the max.
First , it is surrounded by suburbs , hotels , and condos only very affluent out – of – stateers could afford.
If you find any blue collar natives living within 20 miles of Dollywood it must be because they are grandfathered – in ,
and soon to be pushed out on some pretext or other I’ll bet.
I reckon the average job at Dollywood pays at most 3 dollars above minimum wage.
Given what I wrote above , I can’t imagine who would work at Dollywood for at most 3 dollars above minimum wage with a 45 to an hour commute one – way.
I would guess then that most of the employees are 20 – somethings for whom wages – versus – commute times aren’t really an issue.
Dollywood is an amusement park , at least 50 times more expensive than an amusement park need be.
Rather like a casino in that regard ; Casinos are for rich people , or for poor people headed for a really bad ending because they can’t remotely afford that shit.
My recommendation to folks is that if they want carousels , tilt – a – whirls , and bad souvenirs , they wait until autumn when the county carnivals come around.
Except for roller-coasters , which carnivals often don’t have , it’s the same thing , only at least 50% cheaper.
Most carnivals are Florida – based , out – of – state outfits ,
So , yeah , with a carnival , your money is going out of state , to questionable types.

I brought up her story because I grew up in the next county over from Sevierville. I lived in a small town suburb and didn’t encounter very often people who lived like the Partons way back in the hollers until I began working summers as a young teen helper on building material delivery trucks. Still too young to be the driver. This was way back to the early 60’s. I’d be sitting in the cab watching the magnificent high country of the Smoky Mtns scrolling by on the windshield. Before long we’re off pavement and trucking around a mile or so on a gravel road and arrive at a few ramshackle unpainted houses, with many junk cars and a couple of tractors. Also chickens and dogs running around, a small barn in back where they’ve got tobacco hanging, and some real working outhouses. Bona fide genuine hillbillies, not the cartoon versions you’ll see at Dollywood. This particular self sufficient culture has dissappeared, and Dolly won’t be going back there willingly any more than my daughters will. What’s replaced it isn’t good and is a bunch of crap culture.
I used to motorcycle in Wear’s Cove a lot back in the early 70’s. It’s a cartoon tourist trap now, but back then it was the real thing. It was working farms and a small community area with a church, a small grocery/gas station, and that was it. The area was postcard perfect once upon a time, we’d deliver lumber to farmers in the area. Real farmers, not cartoon farmers. Now the entire area is smeared with vacation cabins and tourist entertainment. All ruined, all destroyed, and all the while we’re being gaslighted here as to just what a wonderful thing all the development has been. It seems that even God is pissed about what’s been done in the area, and twice in recent years He’s hit ’em with devastating fires that burn all the vacation crap down.
@Keesa – couldn’t determine if you have been to Dollywood or not. My husband is from that area and tells stories of how Dolly’s family would come to the courthouse in Sevier County and sing for pennies. Seems as if they were all talented. This was a very poor area of Appalachia. Husband’s mother was about as hillbilly as they come, but good people. His grandfather worked for the WPA and built all the rock walls in the Smokies national park.
I don’t know about you but if I was born poor as hell and I had a chance to make mega bucks I would say fuck everybody. The people who go to places like this don’t give a damn about some high and mighty principles. They just want to have a little fun with the family so it can’t be too expensive. Having been in, around and through this area more times than I care to county it’s not ritzy or unaffordable.

It all plays on attribution bias – the tendency to attribute life’s successes or failures to an individual’s inborn characteristics. A certain number of people will be successful in any system, and they of course will attribute their success to their own personality, talents, willingness to work hard, etc. Others who were not quite so successful will do likewise and work and study harder to become part of the exceptional group, although some will also soon fail trying. Those who fail, will conversely be labeled as inferior, an attribution that will increase over time if they don’t better they’re lot, leading us to where we are now. A small number of hyper-winners who view themselves as vastly superior to the rest, who now want to get rid of the rest altogether and keep their stuff for themselves, which makes perfect sense when you view it from their perspective. After all, they ARE superior and you and I ARE inferior, so why shouldn’t they have it all? It’s basically social Darwinism taken to its logical conclusion.
The really juicy part of this whole mindset is when those who viewed themselves and/or their “team” as superior for their entire lives suddenly become confronted by the fact that that’s no longer true, and in Americans’ case, was almost certainly a lie all along. That’s when the mass cognitive dissonance and mental breakdowns kick into high gear and the society itself begins to tear apart at the seams, just as we’re seeing now. Add in the fact that our globalist leaders – no longer loyal to their country whatsoever – seem to be all too aware of these facts and are in fact amplifying the effects at every turn with their actions, and you’ve got a nuclear powder keg ready to blow.

I take your view is to expect more of the same old same old situation. And while this is going on, people everywhere still use the word “democracy” in reverent tones, as if they are referring to something sacred and everlasting. Unfortunately due to internal design flaws, republics only last an average of 250 years before they fail due to complete lack of leadership. The system breaks down to the point that only completely incompetent people get their hands on the levers of government, and so the ship of state winds up on the rocks with the people fleeing and trying to make it to a beach somewhere. It happened to the Soviet Union, and it will likely happen to the United States empire as well. After the dollar is tossed into the rubbish bin by the rest of the planet, we’ll have to make it on our own here without being able to punder other nations to support our “lifestyle”. One possible outcome is there will be so much commotion, blaming, and finger wagging over the dead dollar that the USA will break up into individual states or confederations of states. Russia and China can then go on about their business and greatly reduce their military spending and focus it more on bread and circuses for their citizens. Happy citizens are less likely to cause problems and wars.

Like an ancient distant relative of mine who over a century ago left home at age 15 to seek his fortune in a big northern city – not because he’d had a falling out with his parents but because he’d grown up! His parents raised him in a machine shop, and he already had a lot of skills under his belt. After working in a factory up north for a few years, he was able to eventually build his own factory and had some good success with his own enterprise. Try that at age 15 today – impossible! Today’s 15 year old is on par with last century’s 6 year old.
I think you’re on to something there. This extended childhood we grant our children these days is probably the root of the problem. Wanna teach responsibility? GIVE THEM responsibility and hold them to it as early as possible. Most kids will probably surprise us in that regard.
Kinda like training a dog. You don’t wait until they’re grown and have developed all kinds of bad habits before training them. Do it early and they won’t have all that bad stuff to unlearn in the first place.

St. Paul and Minneapolis are very different cities actually even though they are immediately next to each other.
If you google images of their skylines, it is pretty evident.
St. Paul is largely neighborhood oriented with big old trees, many large boulevards, old established Mexican, Irish, and Hmong neighborhoods. Great restaurants and neighborhood bars. It’s a pretty quiet town overall.
Minneapolis is loud, busy, congested, and crime ridden with a lot with the majority of the black population of the entire state living in its run down & decrepit neighborhoods. It is like most other urban areas in the US. You could literally swap out any one of these populations with each other in the nation, and they’d continue on with their existences without missing a beat: Same corporations, same chain stores/restaurants, same everything.
So you admit that Blacks aren’t like other peoples. Not that the Hmong and Mexicans belong here either, of course.

A man knifed his two children to death across the street. There were a group of men standing together at the neighborhood convenience store Beatings, gang warfare, gun shots, and all manner of uncivility was the normal everyday situation.
One night, an enormous 6″5 300lb black man walked into my kitchen, in my 3rd floor apartment, from an outdoor back entrance. He was “looking for his mother.” LOL

I worked as an electrician and had to deal with black widows, tarantulas, cockroaches and rattlesnake infested crawl spaces, but the worst was a 140-degree attic with forty years of pidgin crap and dead birds in it.
Back then there was no wimpy face masks to protect you from inhaling fiberglass and other assorted nasty crap and it was not uncommon to pop a zit and have a pin shard of insulation pop out of it.

I would never make a plumber. Not for the technical side of things, but for the claustrophobia of crawl spaces (I’m the same with heights). Not that the shit appeals either, obviously, but that’s less psychological.

But you’re inside a tube and you’re dependent on someone else to get you out of it. I thought I’d be fine. Kept my eyes closed a lot of the time and silently said rational things to myself. But in the end the irrational took over and 30 minutes in I pressed the panic button, which got me out but messed up a couple of images, at which point the operator (no idea what an MRI person’s title is) said she might have to call me back a second time because you can only administer the stuff they inject into you once at a time. Heartsink. Thankfully that didn’t happen.
Headlamp or not, I will never be any good at crawl spaces, tubes, hiding in coffins* or anything like that. Same for rope bridges, I have been up many a spiral staircase in old castles and cathedrals and didn’t much like either the ascent or the descent there either.
*Sean Connery allegedly slept in a coffin for a few nights, due to lack of alternative accommodation, when he was briefly employed as a coffin polisher!
The very best spiral staircase experience I’ve ever had was at the cathedral in Ulm Germany. One of the most incredible buildings I’ve ever experienced.
I have reverse claustrophobia, I feel wonderful in confined spaces and get vertigo and fear if I’m in exposed places like cliff edges where I can look down into open space – I start feeling like something is pulling me down into that vast open space.
As a child I used to explore my grandma’s old victorian mansion with my cousins, and we’d look for places we called “cubby holes”. Places a four year old could get into easily but adults couldn’t follow as well. Neat places to hide and with a bit of headroom and where you knew no adults could possibly find you as long as you remained quiet. The only problems us kids had were the same ones that affect plumbers – spiders in the basement and wasps in the attic. For some reason I react badly to spiders crawling around on my skin. The worst is when your face goes right through a spider web, you have sticky spider goo on your face, and you can feel the spider crawling around on your nose.
I’ve been up to the top of the Frankfurter Dom, on a very hot day and carrying a supermarket bag with an extremely heavy watermelon in it, which felt like a ball and chain. Don’t know how that compares to Ulm!
I think that, if you’re at all inclined to either claustrophobia or vertigo, both get worse as you get older. If you live in Victorian accommodation with high ceilings, that can even make painting a challenge. 🙂
I was curious about Ulm cathedral and looked it up. It seems it’s a part of European heritage that some Germans are currently pissing on. You’d think it would be just the guys doing this, but women are apparently dropping panties and doing it too! From wikipedia:

As you will recall from a comment I wrote many years ago, my first project right after I retired (that was Feb 2006) was to build my own coffin. It’s very cool. When the lid is opened it looks just like a pool table, complete with high grade green table cloth, a pool cue and tip chalk.
It sits in the corner of my basement awaiting my demise. I have never tried sleeping in it but maybe I should. It would really piss off my wife who already thinks I’m nuts for having built it.

Y’all need to get on netflix or something and watch a 1962 movie called “The Premature Burial”. No special effects much back then but it sure creeped me out bad when I saw it as a child. I experienced a number of bad nightmares from the flick. If ya like coffins, mausoleums, and graveyards at night this is the movie for you.
I have an on and off problem with heights. One of the worst cases involved St.Paul’s London. Went up to the Whispering Gallerey and sat down near the back. Could not go near the hole in the center, and felt like I was being pulled into a vortex. Nearly had a panic attack. Had to sit there in that state waiting for the wife for about 20 mins.
One other event was at a lighthouse in France. It had a staircase built into the interior walls and it made its way concentrically up to the top. After climbing about two flights, I felt like I was going to throw up. Since everything to the left of me was just open space (was very large inside as well) and you could look down to where you came in, I had a constant feeling that I was again, being pulled to the center and I could hardly move.
Horrible.

Some big spaces make me dizzy. And as a kid I’d go right to the edge of a cliff but now, not so much. However, I was fine at the top of the John Hancock Center and the Sears tower. ALthough I was not comfy in the elevators going up there.

I’ve spent WAY too much time in crawl spaces. There was never any shit down there, but lots of bugs and spiders. In winter, a broken water line meant crawling through puddles of water in near-freezing tempertures. The main problem was that it was an obstacle course: old plumbing lines that had been cut out years ago and old ductwork from a furnace that no longer existed. I’m a firm believer that every house should have a crawl space that is tall enough to allow you to sit up when working on the lines. In my old house’s crawl space, you had to crawl on your belly like a reptile, dragging a droplight, a bag of plumbing fittings and PVC glue and primer, and a jigsaw, and roll over when you got to the bad spot in the lines.
One reason I re-plumbed my whole house about ten years ago was to move the water lines indoors. No more crawling around under the house–and no more frozen lines, either.
Come to think of it , I suppose one reason I have no patience with , or are disgusted with , slasher films is plumbing.

Cob webs are just dust. Nothing to do with spiders. The children in the Amazon make pets of huge spiders. Tarantulas are fury and must be nice to touch. Are they poisonous? Black widows are, and of course that’s a concern.

My friend who died recently worked in Asia for about 30 years. She once came home to find a rat in her house and it was the rat that jumped on a chair. Not sure why you’d need to jump on a chair because of a mouse – you only need to move and they run away.

As I have always been told that cobwebs are the work of “cob spiders,” I googled this, and it turns out they are indeed the work of certain kinds of spiders–“Cobweb spiders (Family: Theridiidae) make cobwebs.”
Perhaps the creepiest spiders are wolf spiders. Those suckers can grow as big as dinner plates. You normally only see the really big ones in houses that have been sitting empty for a long time. When I first moved into my old house in late winter, it had been sitting empty for a long time. In early spring, we got ducks, which were able to get into the crawl space. Within a very short time, we had NO bugs or spiders of any kind. Ducks eat everything that moves and have insatiable appetites.
As for women being afraid of mice, spiders, and bugs, I always assumed that the ladies were pretending to fear them to make their husbands feel useful. I’ve never had any particular fear of any such creatures. When I was married, it was my husband who was afraid of bees and wasps, so I was always the one who dealt with them. So I think there is wisdom in the ladies pretending to be afraid of the critters. If the men have to deal with the problem, they will have learned to do SOMETHING, which will build their confidence and perhaps cause the to attempt to do other things succcessfully.
But first you have to decide which is more irritating: watching hubby duck into the remotest corner of the room in fear while you remove the wasp, or letting him do it and watching him strut around for the next hour as if he’d killed a mountain lion.
I have no fear, either. I even dealt with a pregnant black widow last year. I have no fear of snakes, spiders, scorpions, esp. wolf spiders, which I’ve always liked (they are fascinating).
I know just as many men who get creeped out by bugs as women actually.

Nonsense. As I have mentioned before, I am an ultra-feminine type. Most of my forays into traditionally masculine activities arose from necessity: men not being men. Since somebody has to do life’s masculine chores and the men are worthless, these chores fell to me.
Being a woman (as opposed to being a zero, which seems to be what men are), I donned my Carharts and boots and fired up the chainsaw or reciprocal saw or whatever was required. Because that’s what women do. We are by nature far superior to men, or at least most modern men.

I will give my wife credit she is a dynamo for energy and drive but when it comes to physical type work well most fall very short.

Tarantulas are not nice to touch. Their ‘fur’ is actually spikes. It might be OK to let ’em crawl around on your hand or whatever but they are not something to snuggle.
Some of them can actually throw the hairs on their legs and it is annoying like small cactus spines.
Lest we forget the huge fangs tarantulas have and nope I let one walk on my hand once it was not fun.
I once walked into a huge orb weaver web with a very large orb weaver spider pinned between my face and web.
I could feel it walking all over my face and since it was almost pitch black, I was not entirely sure what it was.
Came back with a flashlight and a wiffleball bat with a loud whack I sent it across the street into the neighbor’s yard.
I have since made restitution for this mistake in judgement by moving them when I find them in a bad spot.
Orb weavers are great spiders to have around and almost harmless to humans but super useful for taking out other unwanted bugs!

How to catch it has been a regular feature of every media featured in the US.
The answer is the same over and over, by the same methods that pass the flu, colds and any other virus, close contact.
The fact that the current testing cannot tell the difference between the Covid virus and the flu virus shows that we do not know which did what for two years.
Proof? The flu did not disappear last year. It was masked by everything single positive test being caused by Covid, by definition. But, but they all went into the hospital and some died. Uh, huh, so did flu patients, in the same age groups!!
Another “fact”. The Vaxx was promised to be as good as the flu shot at preventing the crud.
Yeah right, then two surges occurred obliterating this falsehood.
Two questions.
1. If the Vaxx is so ineffective, how effective is the flu shot? Are we shooting ourselves with toxin even with the flu shots every year? Are the senior shots, two years old, even more dangerous to susceptible folks as they are four times more powerful?
2. A big one right now. The remaining positive claim for the vaxx is that is reduces the intensity of the real virus, that hospitalizations and deaths are less. Stat 101 teaches that correlation does not prove cause. Other variables interfere. Here is a huge one. The same time the vaxx hit, the variant delta then omicron hit, both with lesser effect. The variants of omicron have lessened with each change. If that is the case, how the heck do we know the vaxx was the cause of the lessening effect seeing as both hit at the same time. The real deal may have been if the vaxx had never happened, the same lessening might have happened. Conversely, if the vaxx had never happened, the variant pressure may never have happened and we could be dealing with alpha today.
The point is, THERE IS NO SCIENCE anywhere regarding Covid, the flu, vaccines or any other virus. Fauci is a fraud.
One final question.
How come the flu has miraculously reappeared? Has the test changed? Or is the truth reappeared after Covid has become less profitable. Also, the surge has not reappeared so far, new cases are actually on decline, and the usage of the vaxx, I will guarantee you, has fallen off a cliff. The original shots plus boosters effect has lessened,
So WTF is going on? Science again fails to answer anything.

In of my unproductive emails to my brother (which included a couple of scientific papers, including the one demonstrating the mechanisms whereby the vaxxes disable the immune system) I mentioned that I had personally seen people walk into cafés with a mask on, put it on the table (remember it’s a biohazard potentially covered in the dreaded lurgi), put it on again to go to the toilet, put it back on the table, then put it on again to pay and leave the café. I said that once our overlords saw the rank stupidity and mindless compliance that people were capable of, they knew they’d won.
I haven’t heard from him since, apart from matter-of-factly sending his condolences on the death of my friend, whom he knew from when we were kids, so I assume I’m cancelled. I don’t think I’m actually related to any of my family!!

Two answers.
1. The flu shot is relatively ineffective, some 30-40% from memory of reading Public Health England documents some time ago, although I don’t know what they class as ‘effective’. How much does it have to reduce or alleviate symptoms to be classed as such? Impossible to know without proper control groups. Not sure whether the traditional flu shot is mRNA tech?
2. Excess deaths dropped back to normal levels in spring 2020. There were no vaccines then. They also dropped back to normal levels in spring 2021 before vaccines had begun in earnest. Then excess deaths rose again in line with vaccination rates from March through to December 2021. At best the vaxxes have been a total waste of time. Along with masks, that have seen rises and falls in cases during the periods they were mandated.
Everything they did made diddly-squat difference to the tiny minority of people that suffered with it.

I don’t think flu shots do much at all. People assume they didn’t get flu because they got the shot, but they probably wouldn’t have got it anyway.
Apart from one year, in my early 60s, when they were really pushing them for ‘vulnerable’ people, I went 65 years without a flu shot and only got flu once, when I was 30. I was at school, at work, or bringing up children that were bringing bugs home from school all of that time. That suggests to me that it’s actually quite difficult to catch.
Also, at this stage I’m not sure why you would trust any vaccine they might offer you not to be ‘enhanced’ in some way that is not for your benefit.

I agree about vaccinations being garbage. I’ve come to the conclusion that all of them offer little benefit and likely quite a bit of potential harm.
Since my kids were not vaccinated, I did worry that I might have made a mistake by not allowing them to get the polio vaccine. The reason I was concerned was because we moved to a lake community where we went swimming in the lake all summer. This was a community where everyone had a septic system, including (of course) the house on the lakefront. Not everybody’s septic system is well maintained. But the girls all grew up without incident.
A few years ago, I let my doctor talk me into getting the pneumonia shot, which was probably foolish. I should have at least researched it first. The reason I was such a patsy was because one of my old friends had a pre-school-aged son who got pneumonia several times every winter, and it seemed to me that maybe he should have had the pneumonia vaccination. But I could have been wrong about that. Certainly none of her doctors ever suggested it, including her brother who was a doctor.

No, but here is a new wrinkle in the Peter saga. Shortly after we rescued Peter from Florida we bought a baby monitor to keep an eye on him. We never opened the box and installed it. It wound up forgotten and stored under our bed. Wife found it and we decided to use it.
It’s a German engineered device although “made in China” of course. Instructions are in two languages, English and German. It is quite complex and will do everything but wipe your ass.
So anyway the camera sits on a table a few feet from Peter directed at him where he sits in his chair staring at the TV or more often than not, sleeping. Peter sleeps more than a cat. I read cats average 15 hours of sleep per day. Peter easily exceeds that figure. The camera can be turned 180 degrees using a control on the monitor.
The monitor sits on our kitchen counter so we can watch him and talk to him. It is set to its highest volume so when it’s time for dinner Bo can say “Peter, come down for dinner.” This works so much better than trying to call him on his cell phone since he rarely answers because 1. the phone is in the other room, 2. he has accidentally turned down the volume to zero, 3. he has forgotten to recharge it, 4. etc. 5. etc.
Sometimes Peter leaves the chair, goes to a couch and lays (lies?) down, or to the bathroom or to the bedroom. Eventually he returns to the chair. I sometimes see him leaned forward with his elbows on his knees and holding his head with both hands. The appropriate caption for this position would be “Oh woe is me!”
Forgot to mention, when called to dinner we also say “turn off the TV, turn off the air conditioner and turn off the lights.” This is me trying to be frugal but I may as well save my breath. He has never turned off these 3 energy wasting devices. He always says “I forgot.”

We have this amazing intellectual ability to exhibit behavior beyond the normal, primal emotional drive.
We can examine logic | the lack of contradiction, and make conscious choices about our behavior.
For many, humanist ideals are paramount in our treatment of others and the biosphere. The creature is an amazing life form, and for me, behaving in a manner that seems to contribute to what works best, to the positive flow of things, and to the longevity of the species is pure logic. The native Americans in North America did establish a long term equilibrium between the biosphere and this supposedly marvelous creature we call humans. I first became aware of the Peak Oil issue after listening to an interview on Coast to Coast AM with a fellow named Matt Savinar. He had a website called “Life After the Oil Crash”. From there I discovered other Peak Oilers – such as James H Kunstler. Matt’s website was going along ok until all sorts of craziness appeared in his forum’s website. Same sort of entertaining but off topic stuff you’ll see here on CFN’s forum. Matt thought that peeps weren’t being really serious about the issues brought up on his website, and eventually he pulled the plug on it and became a professional astrologer.
One thing that stuck in my mind that he said during that first interview on C to C AM – and it’s the prediction that our final destination as humanity will be a return to the stone age. That after our fossil fuel supply peaks and dwindles, we’ll be in a way going backwards in time. The first big lurch backwards will be back to the 50’s – just like it was in “Back to the Future”. What the 50’s means is a return to home cooking, sewing, gardening, and one car per household if that. Greatly reduced lifestyles. Then more yanks backward in time until we arrive once again in the steam era. There will still be coal and wood left so that will be powering us after the petroleum and nat gas is gone. After the end of the coal age it will be back to the stone age. And with all the vital resources needed to power an industrial age – gone – we’ll have no other place to go aside from the same place we’ve been for at least the last 100,000 years.

Matt Savinar back in the early post 2000 days had the distinction, as a newly minted attorney, of compiling, organizing, and articulating, as only a law student could, a composite thesis of the Peak Oil theory which he entitled, “Life After the Oil Crash”. His website ensued.
To this day, I sincerely doubt that his exit from the peak oil stage was anything more than a conscious decision on his part to continue living. Sometimes it just doesn’t pay to be able to influence in some particular ways the thinking of too many people.
But I know nothing and my stories could be pure fantasy.

Not many steaks on the shelves in the meat dept. at our local grocery store; what was there cost $14.99 per pound. I had a hankering to grill up a few sirloin steaks for this afternoon — no go. Also, in the frozen food aisle, ice cream cases seemed to be about empty. But I’m happy to report the beer aisle appeared to be well supplied. Looks like it’ll be hit or miss from here on in, reminds me of the days in our little Connecticut village when all we had was a little village store on Main Street and when my mother went in the grocer — a Mr. Greenbaum — would tell her what came in, what was fresh, what was on sale, what he had and didn’t have, for example, right now he had no bananas — but a shipment of bananas is due on Thursday! Everything wasn’t available all the time, still we had plenty to eat and never starved. Maybe those days are coming back — suits me, I don’t care.
E. if you’re looking in I just picked up a Mosin-Nagant M1944 carbine, looks as tho it was stored in grease for about 50 years. I have to clean this grease off to see what I’ve got. Right now I can tell you there is a bayonet attached.

A manly pair it was, too. They were square toed harness boots, with extra high tops of double leather (rattlesnakes, don’t you know” with Vibram soles.
Maker came out to my residence, measured, defined the type of leather, style, etc.. and then hand delivered them when done.

Still have them after 35+ years. No worse from wear…and I wore them daily.

One of them is San Antonio Shoemakers (SAS Shoes).

Also, you might get a pair on eBay. I have two pairs that I bought secondhand. Very comfortable.

No Jarek, I’m not mocking. This church doesn’t preach prosperity gospel. As far as I know it’s the real thing – an uncommon occurence in today’s church scene. Just because there’s a ton of fake jewelry out there doesn’t mean it’s *all* fake.

I’m a Christian in the general sense of the word, I reckon my Christianity is still under construction. In the West, it’s a label that really doesn’t mean much because of the myriads of different forms and denominations of the religion. After the Reformation the splintering process continued unabated to this day, it didn’t just stop with the Lutherans.
The Reformation was actually just the second rodeo. The original Church split in two in 1054. And those two halves are still here, the Roman Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. The Eastern Church has never gone away, and it has always received animosity from both the Caths and Prots. It was never considered influential enough to be a threat until now with the startling resurgence of the Russian Orthodox Church. The Western Church basically shot itself in the head many centuries ago, and Europe suffered horribly under the pall of religious wars between caths and prots. Apparently the population thought it was normal to show Christian brotherhood by hacking your Christian neighbors to death over doctrinal and theological disputes.
The forgotten about Eastern Orthodox Church never went through any of these experiences or cracked up into countless squabbling groups that couldn’t work together. The Eastern Church has never had any Popes. The Church is governed instead by councils of bishops, always has been. They avoided all the bitter squabbles and warfare. This situation spotlights a question that needs to be asked of all Western Christians in general. What’s wrong with y’all and why can’t you get along?
A bunch of demonic stuff came into the Western Protestant Church via the Darby family, once owners of the infamous and horrifying Leap Castle. John Darby was the source of all the Rapture doctrine with millions of people thinking they are about to be spirited up into the sky. The church he left behind, the Plymouth Brethren, later split up and vanished with bitter infighting. Aleister Crowley, our most infamous black magician, grew up in a family that was fanatically devoted to Darby and the Brethren. John Nelson Darby is often credited with being the source of much of modern day religious fundamentalism. It’s a phenomenon that took hold in England and then spread to the US.
The problem with this is the Darby’s association with Leap Castle. Google this and you’ll get your fill of horrifying and ghastly stories with a big pile of dark occult stuff thrown in. The story of Leap Castle would make the perfect horror flick.

Another amusing thing: the Catholics like Augustine and perhaps even St Paul, believed in the monstrous doctrine of predestination. But once the Calvinists made a huge deal about it, they dropped it.
I love the prayer of silence that dominates in the higher Western Church. The Orthodox use the Jesus Prayer, something I don’t want to say over and over again. They get to the same place, but you have to take the route that’s right for you. On the other hand, I love their chanting. One single tone of that became Gregorian Chant, the only aspect of that Tradition that survived in the West – the most difficult to chant, too high for ordinary men. What a foolish and unfortunate choice to limit Chant in such a fashion.
The Orthodox treated the Copts so badly that they were happy when the Muslims conquered Egypt – at first!
The Copts emphasize the Oneness of God more than the West does. So the Orthodox believed they were denying the Trinity. Almost two thousand years later, they sat down and talked. The Orthodox said, Oops, sorry….

I have two problems with it, one being that it is being implemented in an immoral manner, and the other is who decides who is in charge and what checks are there to insure that management doesn’t fall into the wrong hands? Just giving consideration to these two issues, anyone with half a brain would realize that it is a set-up for failure.

I remember a half-midget jockey in my hometown. Lucky guy — 6 inches shorter than the average jockeys. Never had to “make weight” by practical bulimia, steam hot-boxes, and lettuce for supper. He was chunky, strong, and bow-legged. Perfect physique for competing on thoroughbreds. Won a lot of races till the booze caught up with him.
Reminds me of a local guy we called Shorty; he had been a jockey on the NY-Miami racing circuit. He said “They treated the horses better than they treated us.”
Last I heard of Shorty he barricaded himself inside his house and held off the cops for a day and a half with a home made bomb and a revolver. I don’t know what the beef was.
