In case you don’t know what condition our condition is in, the name for it is a crisis of legitimacy. Four years of seditious harassment by a “Resistance” within-and-without the US Government culminates in the janky election of a mentally incapable grifter… run by whom? Does anyone seek to know who, exactly, is pulling Joe Biden’s strings? My guess would be…duh… Barack Obama and his posse. When will he be outed? Maybe today… or next week at the latest. Heads will explode to see liberalism’s bowling trophy fall off the national mantelpiece. If you think Nancy Pelosi is running around in a hebephrenic fugue state now, just wait.
A crisis of legitimacy means that citizens have lost faith in their institutions, that is, in the armature of agreements and procedures for running this society. Do you have any idea how much damage RussiaGate did to the country? The three-year-long mind-fuck perpetrated by the highest officials of the FBI and the CIA ruined whatever was left of their reputations. Not only are citizens not safe from the powers of life-and-death vested in these agencies, but they know that officials who wield that power recklessly won’t be held responsible when acting outside the law. Are we any better now than the Russians under Leonid Brezhnev?
UkraineGate and the first Trump impeachment it spawned was a CIA operation that used CIA agent Eric Ciaramella and Intel Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson (a former DOJ RussiaGate player) to cover up the influence-peddling crimes of Joe Biden’s family behind a smokescreen of perfidy fanned over the nation by the notorious RussiaGate liar, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA). The State Department assisted in that op, and now the whole country knows that they are also ethically unreliable.
In both of these gigantic flimflams, the president could not get any satisfactory scrutiny of the injuries attempted against him, because the ops were run by the very agencies needed to provide that scrutiny over unlawful official behavior. Did the DOJ and its stepchild, the FBI, show any interest in the recent voting irregularities, or is it just convenient to let it all slide so they can answer to a new president, with a clear and urgent interest in burying the matter?
Is it any wonder that a huge chunk of the population doesn’t believe the election was on-the-level? Federal law enforcement has not revealed the identities of exactly who incited the invasion of the Capitol building — and do you believe who The New York Times and CNN claim it was: white supremacist Nazis? Has it not occurred to the “winner” and his handlers that such a public mood of distrust will thunder through our national affairs going forward?
It’s late in the game but something appears to still be in play, and the Resistance is keenly aware of it: a trove of declassified documents laying out their crimes against their own countrymen. Nothing has stuck to the Resistance because they controlled the levers of adjudication. What if, under the extraordinary conditions of the moment, those levers are transferred to one arm of the government that has not disgraced itself: the military? I wrote in this blog more than once in recent years that political disorder could lead to this. Has that moment come?
Thousands of troops are billeted in and around Washington DC now. Why is that? The figment of more white supremacists coming to reenact last week’s incident at the Capitol? I don’t think so. A BLM / Antifa riot, like the ones staged in cities (including Washington DC) all through the summer and fall? (Weren’t they mostly peaceful?) Or is something else up, something that will mark an epochal shift in the fortunes of the USA?
Did you catch Joe Biden on TV last night? Did his appearance fill you with the sweet, warm unction of reassurance? Or did you get the impression that I got: of a near-mummy in a state of panicky confusion, sent from his hidey-hole out to a podium to give an impersonation of someone in authority? I didn’t believe the performance for a minute. The poor schlemiel is headed straight into history’s discontinued merchandise bin. He will probably wonder what awful vanity propelled him down the memory hole as he descends into the darkness… but his memory preceded him down the memory hole and he will have forgotten how the whole thing started. His exit will be a merciful one compared to the people who trussed him up and shoved him onstage to flesh out their lame narrative.

Great post! I remember saying a year or two back on this very blog that the only thing that could save us would be a military coup. Extreme measure and one not to be taken lightly whatsoever, to be sure, but just as true as it ever was, I think. Recent events have proven that, yes, we’re at that point now. Not that I have any particular interest in Bill Gates, but I took the trouble to look up what his 242,000 acres of farmland represents in the context of total US farmland.
So now 0.027% of my brain cells are troubled by this factoid.

Indeed. In fact I think Mr Gates would do well not to buy up too much of his country’s farmland – and if anyone ever needed a bit of good PR it’s Mr G, since he seems to get the blame for all the world’s ills (I make no judgement on this as I simply haven’t followed his doings closely enough).
If he’s got some spare cash, though, perhaps he could buy up some of those meat-processing plants I’ve seen and read about, and clean them up a bit. They need some PR too. Some of them are enough to turn a person vegan. 🙂

I don’t expect to be offered it for months. Hubby’s getting it next Wednesday, so if he goes into an uncontrollable – and possibly italicised – spasm, because of his allergy thingy, I promise to let you know, in the interests of transparency.
In the meantime, over 3 million people have had the vaccine administered in the UK and we don’t seem to be overwhelmed by adverse reactions. And deaths from the hoax itself are running at around 1200-1300/day. So people can make their own minds up.
I’ll still be at risk of catching the hoax through my husband’s work, but will get no help from his vaccination, as it seemingly doesn’t affect transmissibility. Perhaps it will lower viral loads among the vaccinated. One can only hope.
GA, it just seems to me comparing Bill Gate’s farmland ownership to any covid related statistic is irrelevant and useless. You’re comparing apples (not to oranges) but to aardvarks.

As for Bill Gates’ hypothetical preparations for ‘what I call climate change’, there’s really no point either in discussing something you don’t think is an issue anyway. If it isn’t happening, we don’t need to worry about the land, do we? And the point remains that 0.027% is still just 0.027%.

Interesting point. I have become more careful in whom I give money to. It’s hard to trust organizations now, who knows what people are there gobbling up what they take in?
I think that most people running “charities” these days are more interested in making the next payment on their lakefront vacation cottage, than they are in helping the poor chilluns.
Haven’t thoroughly looked into their background, but the Arbor Day Foundation will give you a bunch of trees (for a $12 “donation”) – suitable for your area. Don’t remember the specifics, but a few Norway spruce (not a native, but considerate, not invasive), great windbreak – the deer don’t eat them like they do my favored white cedar, dogwood (hallelujah, we will be delivered from winter after all!), lilac (again, pushing the immigrants, but his one beautifully scented and perfectly situated to fill the gap in the lilac hedgerow between me and the road). So, if in an area already heavily compromised, and afflicted by harsh winter winds, that doesn’t sound like a bad deal. Of course I expect to be demoralized by subsequent revelations…
I salute the Arbor Day Foundation, probably one of the cleanest charities around. I live in the jungles of Missouri. The problem here is not needing more trees, it’s fighting them off so that they don’t swallow your house! If it weren’t for lawnmowers you’d have to hack your way to your front door with a machete.
They are a good organization after reading JHK’s Long Emergency, I decided I needed food producing plants, trees, bushes. They had great recommendations for fruit and nut tree for my cold region of Western NY. The bushes, tress came in good shape and are doing well for my modest price they charged me.
When schools shut down last spring, feeding the kids on the free meals program was as big a concern as continuing their classes online.
The classrooms may have been closed, but the kitchens were up and running. Most districts continued meal service (breakfast, lunch, and after school snack) via family pick up at the school or delivery by school bus in rural districts. The cafeteria ladies (and gents) showed up and got ‘er done, well into summer.
Not sure how much of the covid relief money went to food programs, but it was a lot. And guess who all those dollars eventually trickled up to? The usual Big Ag players.
Has anyone pondered just how much styrofoam carry out containers have gone in the trash since last March? Not to mention cups, wraps, bags, plastic flatware, etc. Depressing as hell.
Maybe they can go back to raising their children?
I don’t know if it’s our persistence or not, but it looks as if those of us who actually still care about the president are getting through, with the advice to declassify everything.
You’d be surprised at how much resistance this has been met with, even from “conservatives”.
If it is humanly possibly to declassify a document, President Trump, being a human, certainly can do it.
He just needed to stop listening to the wrong people.
He’s still listening to the wrong people, when it comes to pardoning Edward Snowden and Julian Assange.

Here is what I ask people:
Do you oppose the national security state?
Do you oppose undeclared forever wars of choice?
Do you oppose global crony corporate/banking interests that restrict competition, create barriers to entry and buy governments?
Do you favor economic policies that promote Main Street over Wall Street?
If they provide the correct answers they can call themselves whatever they want, I’ll work with them. Disagreements in other areas can be put on hold until we end the Empire and restore the republic.

Ever heard the expression “They need a dose of their own medicine”? I told my husband recently that elected officials need to become afraid of their voters… not necessarily in a violent way but perhaps by protesting in front of their homes as was done to Josh Hawley. They need to know that there are consequences for their actions.
I don’t have a problem with that either.
It’s not the choosing so much as it’s the waiting too long to jettison them when it becomes clear that they have no redeeming qualities.

We talk about censorship. Big Tech for some reason has a position on the Coronavirus, and want to suppress any science to the contrary.
But many Trump supporters, I have found, wanted to suppress the truth that the president allowed this horror show to gain a foothold in this country, he not only didn’t oppose it, he facilitated it, it it was very much a factor in his losing the election.
Nobody wants the truth. If more of us had acknowledged the president’s very wrong turn, we perhaps could have gotten him to reverse it in time.
You don’t believe in the Steal? I do, but I agree his handling of the Covidian Cult has been insane. He let these people get a huge head start and then he jumped in with both feet in order to try to outdo them in the narrative olympics.
Saying stop the testing before he bothered to say the testing is fake was simply insane.

Another great post from JHK but I have a hard time believing a 70-something year old president is going to suddenly develop a degree of testicular fortitude great enough to do what needs to be done.

Great post. But I don’t know how President Trump is going to get all of that information out, how it can poke through the walls of disinformation, lies, and obfuscation — let alone blatant cover ups. Or simply be ignored and unpublished by the media. The alt media may not be enough.
I hope it works. But I think that the Resistance has things sewn up. Too many culpable desperate people in too many halls of government at too many levels.

How can anyone who believes in the Constitution or the Republic not hope that Trump would initiate mass arrests against those who rigged the presidential election — including the CIA and foreign officials who facilitated overseas vote switching. But wait, there is “no evidence of voter fraud”, just ask the papers of record, the NY Times and the Washington Post, just ask all the corporate news outlets, including the “conservative” Fox News.
We all love your writing, Mr. Kunstler, and we probably all return here more than once to reread your columns because they have given us some faint hope that *finally* justice might be done, the Constitution and the Republic saved/restored while the criminals running the government and the media could be brought to justice. But that faint hope is fading, is it not? The troops surrounding the capitol are the National Guard, under the control of the Democratic governor, not Trump.
The silencing of dissent prevents us from hearing from General Flynn or Sidney Powell. Not a single ‘high court” in the US would allow the massive evidence of vote rigging to be heard! Congress is completely bought and sold, just as is the judiciary. All dissent goes down the memory hole, just as will any declassified documents.
I pray to God that I am wrong, but I don’t see any evidence that the “hammer is about to fall” on the criminal cabal of globalists who are about to start their “cleansing” process against more than half the population who voted for and spoke out for Trump. That would probably include you, too, sir.

Last night John Solomon was on with Sean Hannity and he was discussing how The New York Times and The Washington Post had revealed that Intel knew the attack on the Capitol had been planned for weeks mainly by (the irony!) organizing on Fakebook.
Intel told the House and Senate Sargeants at Arms that there was confirmed intel that rioters were planning to attempt to storm the Capitol. So the Sargeants at Arms begged Pelosi and McConnell for the National Guard to be brought in for extra security but they said no because they “didn’t like the optics”!
Here is the kicker to this: President Trump was not given this Intel, according to Solomon.
If this is all true, it means a trap was set for Trump and his supporters.
They knew Trump would be asking those at his White House speech to go to the Capitol and the “rioters” broke away from the event a half an hour before it ended to make their way to the Capitol.
Interesting too that both Sargeants at Arms were either fired or resigned.

Some years ago, the National Guard was taken from the command of the various governors of states and put directly under the control of the Army and Airforce, and ultimately under the command of the Commander-in-Chief.. They are now the United States National Guard and considered reserve troops of those branches. I remember being slightly alarmed at the time, and opposed that change. I don’t forget much, if I’ve paid any attention to it. I have every confidence they are in DC with Trump’s approval. And such a lot of them too–intimidating indeed, but who is the object of their intimidation? Good, sensible souls, I don’t imagine any of Trumps base is planning on touching that. I do hear that BLM was rioting in front of congress this past Wednesday, though I didn’t hear it on MSM.

The protest that did get out of hand on January 6th is being treated like the storming of the Bastille. As far as I can tell, no one was armed and the damage (which was wrong) was minimal and Congress finished certifying the election by 4am on the 7th. When the mayor issued a 6pm curfew, the crowd peacefully dispersed. When did BLM or Antifa obey a curfew and peacefully disperse? Yet that’s never mentioned.

Even though I’m not a real estate investor I have to wonder about what happens to people or companies who own apartments and rent houses if there’s a moratorium on paying rent. How do they make THEIR mortgage payments to the bank? Is this a under- the- radar grab by bigger investors to buy property for pennies on the dollar from the original owners?

It’s impossible to know what happened anymore as far as I can tell. The networks keeping showing the same picture of the man breaking the glass over and over. Yet security cameras have to cover every square inch of the Capital so if there was wide spread violence, why are these pictures not shown?
I don’t think the crowd surging into the building was right and five people needlessly died and that cannot be brushed aside. An investigation into the events by Congress would be pointless as the very people who are in charge are determined to make a bad situation even worse.
Three of those were ordinary medical issues. The two criminal cases: was the security or cop shooting Ashli Babitt and a guy throwing a fire extinguisher and hitting a cop in the head, who later died. These need to be investigated carefully. But since the cop was Black and Babitt a Deplorable, he’ll walk. The other guy will probably do twenty to life.
The officer that shot Ashli Babitt was intentionally trying to kill her. Murder. According to Gustave Le Bon in The Madness of Crowds (or whatever it was called, 1895), from memory, the mob did not know what it wanted to do. I am not sure they had even set out for the Bastille, where hardly anyone was imprisoned anyway. The governor of the gaol came out and surrendered. They held him without knowing what to do next. Then a butcher’s apprentice appeared on the scene and they got him to cut his head off with his knife before parading it aimlessly through the city.
So there was a gap between story and reality even back then. I was listening earlier to French historian Reynald Secher talking about the Revolutionary government’s wicked suppression of the Vendée rising in the west of France (1793-4). The Committee of Public Safety (Robespierre) gave the order, and the Assembly approved (1 August 1793), to wipe out the region. He says at least 117k were killed and it was probably as many as 150k, 70% of them children, women and the old. He says it was the only case of genocide carried out government using legal means, or something like that. Even Pol Pot or Stalin did not do that, he says.

One of the interesting things about the story is that it was buried until 1985. I think a document of Babeuf’s turned up (my French is pretty basic) which supported it and Secher then dug up a lot more documents. I could attempt a list of the myths he has burst (and I have not covered them all yet) but it would take too long. But let’s just take China. Johnson has pointed out the recent Hong Kong riots, the Opium Wars (in this case, who organized and benefited financially – I won’t say here), the Rape of Nanking (all the contemporary evidence shows nothing of the sort; fake photos and accounts – all done, of course, very clusmsily). And the Tianman Square massacre that never was. Chang and Halliday in their biography of Mao add many more, including the so-called heroic Long March. I studied American – Chinese hisory as part of my history degree and read, among other books, Edgar Snow’s wartime Red Star Over China, portraying Mao’s band as heroes. He must have been either deluded or in collusion.

I remember reading the Opium Wars were instigated by Great Britain for the noble purpose of flooding China with opium and lining the pockets of merchants selling it. And of course, the land grab of Hong Kong worked out well for them too.

This just reminds me of French writer Bernard Lugan who wrote about the alleged massacre of Algerians in France one night in 1961 or 62. They werer portesting peacfullly (ha had) on a Parisian bridge and hundreds were thrown off by the French police or military to drown. There are no records in the morgue there or other reliable evidence (he says). He referred to similar massacres of Germanreugees s in Czechoslovakea in 1945 who were also thrown off a bridge by partisans and their bodies were washed up in their dozens or so downriver, but no such thing happened on the Seine.
I am interested from what might be called a psychological point of view about how everyone can believe stories unsupported by evidence and often ridiculously lurid.
The argument is that the Opium Wars generated vast sums of cash, which changed the whole dynamic, or greatly accelearted it, and in a bad, corrupting way. I suppose the governments from then on were beholden to their paymasters. That is the argument anyway, I do not know much about it.
It reminds me of what is said to have happened after the dissolution of the monasteries in England where great financial wealth was made available suddenly. (Raymond crotty argued that that wealth was lost in the bogs of Ireland, the cost of pacifying that unfortuate country.)
It was a false flag, the purpose was twofold (or more): 1) stop the evidence of election fraud to be read by people who were slated to present it, and intimidate them out of doing so (which happened); 2) use the so-called ‘terrorist attack’ to paint all Trump supporters are domestic terrorists, and then use that as the impetus for the Domestic Terrorism Act the Democrats are trying to pass.

There is. It’s in the Fourteenth Amendment:
“ Section 3. No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may, by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.”
Some opinions hold that the Conviction of the Impeachment charge is not even necessary to invoke this clause. A simple majority in both Houses will do it.

I don’t know, Jim, I think it is all too little, too late. I think President Trump made the political mistake of his career to organize that crowd on January 6th, and the Deep State must have cackled with glee at how easy it was to open the doors to the Capitol and lead in the justifiably angry and sadly gullible. The political fallout from that event is still reverberating, not because it was the threat it was claimed to be, but because when your opponents control the media even a relative non-event (compared to previous violence this year) can be blown up into Pearl Harbor 2021, etc. Look at the political implications just so far: Republicans fall into line certifying Biden election, calls for persecution of Republicans who questioned the election, the de-platforming of tens of thousands on social media, the shutdown of an entire social media platform (Parler), a second impeachment which somehow promises to extend beyond his actual time in office (is that even constitutional!?). I’m probably missing a few major ones as well. As if anyone is going to care about some illegal spying four years ago, or the Biden family corruption six years ago. Nope, that stuff is only going to live in the memories of a minority of Americans, and when it gets brought up (infrequently) at a social gathering the response will be “Well, Trump tried a coup at the Capitol, we always knew he was Hitler! You are right on all counts.
If there is any saving grace in this gargantuan mess it is the simple fact that in the age of the 24 hour news cycle, the attention span of the American people is severely limited. They reach a saturation point on any “outrage of the day” in no time flat and soon tune-out and return to watching football, to playing disc golf, or watching porn on the Internet. Anything to relieve the insufferable boredom of the 24/7 MSM outrage over everything Trump does.
So, give it 6 months. When the ratings drop, the cable channels will find a new enthusiasm. Especially if Trump appears to be all washed up and goes silent.
In the meantime, patriots should be keeping their powder dry and should bail from social media and start making preparations to survive the tyranny we are sliding into.

By definition, an impeachment trial verdict (in the Senate) to remove someone from office cannot occur after someone’s term ends, or if they resign beforehand.
However a trial verdict to ban an impeached person from ever holding federal office again is almost certainly constitutional – most legal experts say that.
It has to be possible – otherwise someone could either run out the clock or simply resign just before the verdict, to escape the ban.
I assume the Democrats will seek a decision in the Senate to achieve a lifetime ban – it will be interesting to see whether there are 17 Republican senators who really want the party to be rid of Trump – and achieve clear air for 2022 and especially 2024.

I would support a Constitutional Amendment that states no one over 65 or who would assume office after turning 65 is allowed to run for any political office and must surrender their seat the next election cycle after their 65th birthday.

It’s a good question … maybe they fear powerlessness more than anything. They don’t seem to want to have 5-10 years of relaxed retirement – playing golf, travel, quality time with grandkids, etc.

A little while ago, I was curious about who would be the Senate Majority Leader in the case of a 50/50 split, and when that might take place since the two senators from Georgia maybe haven’t taken office yet. So I pulled up a Wikipedia page that showed a table listing Senate officers. It showed McConnell as the Senate MINORITY Leader, and Schumer as the Senate MAJORITY Leader. Well, as far as I know, that change hasn’t taken place yet.

Generally I trust judges because they don’t have to be raising money and securing influence for the next election. Generally I trust the results the judicial system produces because it’s designed to seek out truth. It’s highly imperfect, but it does evaluate based on evidence, precedent and rule of law.
On top of that, and I hate that it’s the case, but I find myself trusting the judges who threw out all those Trump cases because so many of them are Trump appointees. Trump managed to squeeze three onto the Supreme Court, and fully expected them to come to his rescue in his time of need. They didn’t. And I think that’s because, however much I disagree with their politics, they answer to a higher power: Truth, supported by evidence.
I trust them more than I do some person on the internet, copy-pasting something some other person on the internet said.
If there’s any validity to this stuff it can survive examination by courts of law. Rudy had plenty of chances. 50 (or is it 60?) at least.

Do you know what it means when the law-courts are shown surveillance footage of election officers pulling out a suitcase full of fake ballots from under a table in the wee hours of the night, then counting them when no one is around, and yet the courts throw out the case? It means the judges themselves are capable of denying the evidence of their own eyes. It means the rule of law is suspended if it does not favor the liberals. It means the judiciary system (including the Supreme Court) has become an extended arm of the Democratic Party. It means they have successfully subverted all the vital organs of society and are now using them for the achievement of their ends. Whatever may happen to Trump’s legacy as president his primal, archetypal mission was accomplished; to bring out in the open how deeply Secular Totalitarianism (the leftist-orientated Deep State) has infiltrated the cultural and social institutions of the West. He accomplished this simply by being someone the Left felt irresistibly compelled to destroy by fair means or foul. Unfortunately for them, in their efforts to destroy him they have inadvertently destroyed their own reputations, while severely damaging the venerable institutions of which they are the current caretakers. From this point forward, although those on the Left may think they are winning, in truth they are losing ground day by day.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment. I’ve been saying much the same thing myself in my conversations with people. Whatever one may think about Trump and his accomplishments, there is NO DOUBT whatsoever that he has ripped the curtains down and revealed the moral degeneracy and rot at EVERY level of the political establishment and even in supposedly apolitical institutions such as the CDC and the NIH. Revealed it in its full unexpurgated glory for the non-brainwashed half of the population to see.
I hope patriotic Americans are genuinely stirred to an intense anger over the events of the last few months – with the race riots (“peaceful protests”), the slandering of America and its values, the despicable antics of BLM and Antifa, the cynical, brazen and shameless subversion of the presidential elections, the treason of the media and big-tech as they takes an aggressively anti-American position with all their censorship and lopsided narratives, the despicable cowardice of the GOP to stand up to all this and stamp it out.

I have also thought a fair bit about all this.
I know you’re being sarcastic, but I still consider it a mischaracterisation: Joe Biden isn’t the most popular president, Donald Trump is the most unpopular and people wanted him to be a one-termer.
Outside of the 40-45% of lifelong Democratic voters who would vote for a tree-stump if it were painted blue, a large number of others (Independents, Republicans) wanted to be rid of Donald Trump, and voted that way. I think it’s pretty clear that there were a lot of anti-Trump votes rather than enthusiastic pro-Biden ones.
The number of troops seems to keep growing rather rapidly, from 12,000 to 30,000 and counting. But whatever, it’s an extremely sad state of affairs for America – where a big slice of the national capital has to be cordoned off as if a war zone.
I don’t know how realistic and dangerous the threat from the crazier end of the pro-Trump crowd is, but they are not being indulged this time; not after 6 January … the state is in control this time.
Donald Trump made four fatal mistakes, in my view:
1. He downplayed the pandemic all year
2. He claimed a lost election was a rigged one
3. He discouraged supporters from using mail-in voting

Dear Madam Speaker: (Dear Mr. President:)
Pursuant to the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701 et seq.) (IEEPA), the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.), and section 301 of title 3, United States Code, I hereby report that I have issued an Executive Order taking further steps to deal with the threat posed by the People’s Republic of China’s (PRC) increasing exploitation of United States capital to resource and to enable the development and modernization of its military, intelligence, and other security apparatuses which continue to allow the PRC to directly threaten the United States homeland and United States forces overseas, including by developing and deploying weapons of mass destruction, advanced conventional weapons, and malicious cyber-enabled actions against the United States and its people.
Through the national strategy of Military-Civil Fusion, the PRC increases the size of the country’s military-industrial complex by compelling civilian Chinese companies to support its military and intelligence activities. Those companies, though remaining ostensibly private and civilian, directly support the PRC’s military, intelligence, and security apparatuses and aid in their development and modernization. At the same time, they raise capital by selling securities to United States investors that trade on public exchanges both here and abroad, lobbying United States index providers and funds to include these securities in market offerings, and engaging in other acts to ensure access to United States capital. In that way, the PRC exploits United States investors to finance the development and modernization of its military.
To deal with that threat, I signed Executive Order 13959 on November 12, 2020. Executive Order 13959 prohibits certain purchases involving publicly traded securities, or any securities that are derivative of, or are designed to provide investment exposure to such securities, of any Communist Chinese military company. Those companies are ones the Department of Defense has listed, or will list, pursuant to section 1237 of Public Law 105-261, as amended, or are identified as Communist Chinese military companies or their subsidiaries by the Secretary of the Treasury using similar criteria.
Today, I signed an Executive Order amending Executive Order 13959. The amendments prohibit certain sales as well as purchases of publicly traded securities, or any securities that are derivative of, or are designed to provide investment exposure to such securities, of any Communist Chinese military company. They also prohibit possession of such securities by United States persons 1 year after a company is determined to be a Communist Chinese military company. And, finally, they allow the Secretary of Defense publicly to list whether a company is a Communist Chinese military company using the criteria in section 1237(b)(4)(B) of Public Law 105-261, as amended by section 1233 of Public Law 106-398 and section 1222 of Public Law 108?375, regardless of whether the Secretary must report that determination under section 1237(b)(2).

My husband has a colleague of 35, with no known co-morbidities, who has long Covid. Because of it she is only able to work one session a week, and was bounced from a general practice job she was meant to take up once they found she had long Covid. Especially at this time, GP practices (which are private businesses, contracted to provide services to the NHS) can’t afford to be carrying someone who can’t do the sessions. Sad, but practical.

I’m not sure Joe Biden as President-elect has “called in” anything – the Inauguration has been scaled down (primarily for Covid-19 reasons, but also for security concerns following the storming of the US Capitol on 6 January).
The Inauguration team would be discussing security in great deal with law enforcement – plus DHS and the National Guard. Would you expect anything else after the events of 6 January?
