James Howard Kunstler is the author of many books including (non-fiction) The Geography of Nowhere, The City in Mind: Notes on the Urban Condition, Home from Nowhere, The Long Emergency and the four-book series of World Made By Hand novels, set in a post economic crash American future. His most recent book is Living in the Long Emergency; Global Crisis, the Failure of the Futurists, and the Early Adapters Who Are Showing Us the Way Forward. Jim lives on a homestead in Washington County, New. York, where he tends his garden and communes with his chickens.
Well crap! Now I’m actually going to have to work on Thursday mornings. Thanks a lot Jim!
Looking forward to your return and to reading book 3 in the series.
Yay! I love your World Made By Hand series. Can’t wait for the latest!
In case anyone else was wondering about the painting JHK posted to represent his hiatus…

It’s last of a series by Thomas Cole that can be viewed in the NY Historical Society Museum.
There’s a link to another series about the stages of man’s life that can be found in Utica, NY at the M-W-P Arts Institute and National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
When Mr Kunstler gets back I hope he will say something about what is going on at Fukushima.
Am missing the weekly podcasts but the payoff will be getting to buy and read World Made By Hand 3!
Jim, we’re dyin’ over here. What’s up with you coming back any time soon??
Hurry back Jim, We’re all missing the podcast. Also, Merry Christmas!
I love deadlines. I particularly love the whooshing noise they make as they go past.

There was a time when we could depend on a podcast being there when we needed it. That was back in the day. Now, with catabolic collapse, the Long Emergency in full swing, how can we depend on such luxuries any longer?
A podcast depends on a long supply line of computer parts, energy, etc. Last year only about 7 months worth of podcasts. This year, I predict 4 months. And we will be glad to get those.
Great news on book three ! Looking forward to picking up a copy or few. Hope you take a nice vacation and get to relax before starting the garden & book tour. Still the best podcast on the net. Finished listing to all of the during the break.
Karah, thanks for the info.
Japan may go medieval-must we ?

Wow…no Kunstlercast for over 3 months. Sure do miss it terribly, especially with the new format where JHK has placed more focus on interviewing other knowledgeable people whose insights give even more weight to the major themes Jim has been championing. I also like the change in the theme music, as I am 51 years old and much prefer hearing violin and fiddle music as opposed to the stuff from “Deer Tick.” (No offense intended to Duncan….it’s just a preference…)
But at least this hiatus is all for a worthy cause. I have read both of the previous “World Made by Hand” novels and enjoyed them immensely and I can’t wait to read the next installment.
Can’t wait for the next installment of the World Made by Hand but the Kunstler – cast is definitely missed!
“Hiatus should last about a month.” my ass!. I pay good money to…oh, um, oh yeah. Nevermind.
SLACKER!
Anyone know any other good authors in this genre? I actually don’t even know the name of the genre but I know that I devour Jim’s books and would like to stay satiated while he crafts a new book.
I’ve looked around and all the other books out there seem to be written by religious kooks. Not my cup of tea, although I’ve been tempted.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
