Ho ho ho! It’s that time of year again. Here’s JHK’s holiday classic: A Christmas Orphan.

11-year-old Jeff Greenaway hears his mom and dad argue one night after an office Christmas party. He infers from their garbled squabble that he is an orphan, found in a willow basket on the welcome mat outside their New York apartment. Thinking now that his parents are imposters, he steals away to Grand Central Station and buys a train ticket to Drakesville, Vermont, where he intends to start life all over again.

Published as an E-book for the first time!

The 20th Anniversary edition
With an entertaining new introduction by the author (sample)

Still popular in the graduate schools of architecture and urban design, this is the go-to book about the fiasco of suburbia — “the greatest misallocation of resources in the history of the world.” America is still building more of this crap, still hostage to the deadly paradigm that is turning the American landscape into a pathetic cartoon.

The immersive ugliness of our everyday environment is entropy made visible.” — JHK

Instructors are often puzzled about what to do when learners don’t make an effort to study, or when they become discouraged by setbacks or material they observe to be too difficult. One cause of this behaviour is the attitude that numerous students have about their own intelligence. Study has clearly proven that having the attitude that you are either smart or not smart has serious negative consequences for education. Honorary degree program is one powerful approach that you can intervene as instructor is by being careful about how you give learners praise.
