I suppose many who think about the prospect of economic collapse imagine something like a Death Star implosion that simply obliterates the normal doings of daily life overnight, leaving everybody in a short, nasty, brutish, Hobbesian free-for-all that dumps the survivors in a replay of the Stone Age — without the consolation of golden ages yet to come that we had the first time around.

The collapse of our techno-industrial set-up has actually been going on for some time, insidiously and corrosively, without shattering the scaffolds of seeming normality, just stealthily undermining them. I’d date the onset of it to about 2005 when the world unknowingly crossed an invisible border into the terra incognito of peak oil, by which, of course, I mean oil that societies could no longer afford to pull out of the ground. It’s one thing to have an abundance of really cheap energy, like oil was in 1955. But when the supply starts to get sketchy, and what’s left can only be obtained at an economic loss, the system goes quietly insane.

In the event, popular beliefs and behavior have turned really strange. We do things that are patently self-destructive, rationalize them with doctrines and policies that don’t add up, and then garnish them with wishful fantasies that offer hypothetical happy endings to plot lines that do not really tend in a rosy direction. The techno-narcissistic nonsense reverberating through the echo-chambers of business, media, and government aims to furnish that nostrum called “hope” to a nation that simply won’t admit darker outcomes to the terrible limits facing humanity.

Thus, we have the Tesla saga of electric motoring to save the day for our vaunted way of life (i.e. the landscape as demolition derby), the absurd proposals to colonize distant, arid, frigid, and airless Mars as a cure for ruining this watery blue planet ideally suited for our life-form, and the inane “singularity” narratives that propose to replace grubby material human life with a crypto-gnostic data cloud of never-ending cosmic orgasm. The psychological desperation is obvious. Apparently, there are moments in history when flying up your own butt-hole is the most comforting available option.

I expect the collapse to pick up more momentum as we turn the corner around summer. The system that we have most willfully abused and perverted is finance. This monster that so many observers call “capitalism” is just a set of methods for managing surplus wealth — the catch being that nothing nearly this complex has ever been seen before in history and is a pure product of the 200-year-long industrial orgy driven by fossil fuels. That is, the world never before accumulated so much surplus wealth in such a short span of time. We commonly refer to this dynamic as “growth.” When that growth, as expressed in modern GDP terms, slowed dramatically after 2005, we launched an array of clever mechanisms to keep faking it for a while. Racking up immense debt was our way of faking it. If you can’t cover your costs in the present, just borrow from the future. Unfortunately, that works only as as long as there’s some reasonable expectation that debt can be paid back. We’re so far beyond that now, it’s not funny. And that realization alone will destroy the bond markets and anything related to and dependent on their operations to function.

This is a broad outline to the coming end of the Trump miracle economy. It was the after effects of the previous debt blowup — the phony-baloney mortgage bond market in 2008 — that mortally wounded the American middle class and put Donald Trump in the White House. His base is correct to feel swindled. That is exactly what happened to them, and the beat goes on now with securitized sub-prime auto loans. Throw in the horrific burdens of unpayable and non-dischargable college loans that will ruin millions of lives and pricey health insurance with $5000 deductibles and you have a  recipe for a complete loss of faith in the system.

The next debt blowup will be the end of Mr. Trump’s improbable credibility. It may also be the beginning of serious difficulty in being able to get many of the goods of daily life, because the producers of things will be very unsure of getting paid on delivery of just about anything. A freeze up of short-term lending would quickly lead to empty WalMart shelves and “no gas” signs at the filling  stations. That’s when collapse finally goes kinetic, and becomes something more than just bad feelings and inane ideas.

“A freeze up of short-term lending would quickly lead to empty WalMart shelves” — Debt problems are already leading to thousands of stores closing including Toys R Us and Kmart. The latter was WalMart’s chief competitor. Now, it and its sibling Sears are likely to finally go bankrupt in the next recession. Welcome to the Retail Apocalypse!

    • FallenHero July 9, 2018 at 10:31 am #

They closed because of amazon. When amazon starts closing maybe something will ‘happen’.

I was at babies r us and nearly everyone there outright pointed to amazon as people came in, looked at products, then bought on amazon for 20% off.

      • Neon Vincent July 9, 2018 at 11:04 am #

Amazon and the rise of online shopping are probably a necessary but not sufficient for the current travails of brick-and-mortar retail. The chains that are failing are also victims of poor management and predatory financing. Case in point, Sears, which seems to be falling prey to both simultaneously.

        • FallenHero July 9, 2018 at 11:38 am #

If money is still flowing in, it can make up for bad management. I find the management reason skeptical anyway, EVERY corporation is simultaneous suffering from ‘bad management’?

Amazon is practically the antithesis of it’s namesake becoming some kind of predator of the desert . Like a bunch of 100 foot hyena’s fed on oil age bonanza. They share data with the government now. Besos is a smart guy . Working with government is wise. I believed in Kunstler’s dystopia for awhile it might play out that way eventually after 20 years of STASI Land avec a handsmaids tale with guardians and chiefly eyes sans the religion but who knows ? I really think it’s becoming more police , military state more than anything before , a world made by hand comes into place.

I remember in the 1970-s and 80’s, I used to laugh at the Soviet Union for having only one department store. They called it ‘GOOM,’ which were the initials in Russian for ‘Government Universal Store (Gosudarstvennoi OOniversitetskii Magazin).
Guess we’ve got our own GOOM now in Amazon…

“Debts that cannot be repaid will not be repaid.” In fact there is no intention to repay financial world debts. Only us minnows have obligations to repay our debts. In the $Trillion finance world there is no repayment necessary. The credit binge there has no repay option. I read yesterday the debt is estimated at $528Trillion. Even the GFC QE debt between 2008 and 2010 added up to $28Trillion. These are not figures that can ever get into the economy we know. And there are not the resources there also.

      • Walter B July 10, 2018 at 9:16 am #

It is just like laws that are for “the little people”. Repayment of debt is enforced only by those that have the power to collect, bankrupt, or repossesses assets from those that have them. The huge government debts are all held by those that already OWN the governments. There is no need to repay when you already own the debtor..

the inane “singularity” narratives that propose to replace grubby material human life with a crypto-gnostic data cloud of never-ending cosmic orgasm

One of the best lines ever from Kunstler.

    • K-Dog July 9, 2018 at 9:54 am #

      crypto-gnostic grabbed me too

    • Neon Vincent July 9, 2018 at 10:03 am #

Speaking of the singularity, I watched “Prophets of Doom” four years ago. Our host, the late Michael Ruppert, and the other guests managed to convince Hugo De Garis that Peak Oil and other environmental and economic disasters were likely to hit before the singularity, in particular water shortages. Score one for Jim!

That was just one expert. The singularity still has a hold on popular culture, as testified by the HBO series “Westworld.” Watch for it to receive a lot of Emmy nominations when they are announced this coming Thursday.

      • Walter B July 9, 2018 at 11:54 am #

Prophets was an excellent event and I enjoyed it immensely. I especially liked the AI developer who admitted that once these devices are implemented to “solve our problems”, they might very well decide that we humans are the problem and implement the removal of us from the system. Of course they are going to go ahead and do it anyway. Fools.

For all of those deniers of peak oil out there, they might want to ask themselves the question why, if the Devil’s Excrement is some damned plentiful and infinitely available, has the USA been engaged in unending war for oil for the last 60 years? Why has our entire foreign policy centered around securing sweet deals with oil producing nations or invading those that do not comply for the early start of this new century?

The economic situation that Jim describes is absolutely accurate and the timing is correct too. We are there and it is getting worse every day. The fact that so many Americans and so many zombie companies have still able to take out more debt to make the payments on their outstanding debt does not mean that we are in a good place. Here in New Jersey the corrupt state government passed a “Millionaire’s Tax” just last week in what they claim is an attempt to fund the bankrupt pension system. The argument against it was and is that those being taxed will simply move to states where taxation is less (or charge us all more to make their payments in the products we buy from them) is a valid one. It is already happening and once enough of these folks leave, how will Trenton make up for the shortfall? Why by taking it from we middle class working losers who cannot leave of course. It is not getting better it is only getting worse. How long it can continue to degrade is the only question.

        • TPTB-USA July 10, 2018 at 9:06 am #

“Of course they are going to go ahead and do it anyway. Fools.”

Walter, you either play the game, or you loose by default.

This last weekend I briefly spoke with a gentleman that commented about his recent missionary work in Paraguay. He said that the mission would take in children, some of whom had not eaten for 9 days, that had been abandoned by their parents. He said that there was no work, so the father would go to a neighboring country to try and find work, and the mother would wind-up in jail for prostitution. He commented about the children being humble, vs. the brat attitude in this country.

Now, if AI is going to solve such issues, will an official like Trump, or perhaps an individual like Janos, get to appoint/select the AI model version?

Gaming the system means you need to sell your house in New Jersey before the supply decimates the property values, and the demand in the new location nullifies your advantage.

Family units with the latest and baddest AI version will pick the pockets/carcasses of those with inferior units, or no AI defense at all (isn’t that basically the net result of the game of Capitalism?). A similar scenario plays-out from the individual to the National level and beyond. So, who wins?

Outlaw AI in the developed world? How do you intend to defend your citizens if Boko Haram is employing AI to game your Countries vulnerabilities?

Times are changing, and the System needs to change to accommodate the new environment. The issue is that we have been conditioned to play the game, and game the system, and that which needs to take place will shatter the perception of reality that most have come to believe as a law of nature. It will expose the system for being nothing more than a game (that process is already well underway).

How does civilization evolve from the current system, to a foreign new format, without waves of litigants laying claim to their judgment awards for being left-out of the current game?

For those who think the game can go on forever, rumor has it that Trump is coming out with a new line of designer blinders to shield the sight of the ugly issues in the world.

          • Walter B July 10, 2018 at 9:58 am #

No doubt TPTB, no doubt at all. There are some games however, that I would choose not play and lose by default as you say. Let the lemming hearted hoard run ever faster to the shore, for me, I would rather join my friend T Rex and find peace in extinction. You gotta go sometime, right?

          • messianicdruid July 12, 2018 at 1:01 pm #

“At the approach of the American revolution, the Hau de no sau nee did everything possible to remain neutral. With the decline of France, and the increasing decline in the importance of trade, the settler bourgeoisie of the Anglo colonies cast an increasingly envious eye on the lands of the Longhouse. Still our military power was formidable, and our resolve was to remain neutral.

The policy of England, however, was to involve the Hau de no sau nee in the war. To accomplish this goal, they resorted to bribery, trickery, false propaganda, and the emotional appeal. The Hau de no sau nee continued its policy of neutrality throughout. Both the colonists and the “Loyalists” entered our territories in search of mercenaries. The loyalist strategy was the more successful. They were able to draw out some of our people into a battle with the revolting colonists.“

You all look the same. RightJanos?

          • TPTB-USA July 14, 2018 at 11:55 pm #

Not playing the games is the noble thing to do Walter B, but most people are not in the position to choose that option.

I would like to thank our host, yourself, and others for taking the time and sharing information that adds a piece to the jigsaw puzzle I am working on.

I have trouble with inflexibility, extremes, and conspiracy theorists.

Recently I read a post by Martin Armstrong,
Who Really is the Deep State?
            https://www.armstrongeconomics.com/world-news/conspiracy/who-realyl-is-the-deep-state/

… and after reading some of your recent posts, I can grasp the concept.

Most who post here foresee a rough road ahead. Having been an engineer, I suspect you have spent most of your life solving problems. I have pondered what it will take to navigate a rough road, and your answer is a key component, but I believe that it must be done by leaders that have the ability to unite the people of their respective countries.

Perhaps Trump is a key component in the solution, in that, as an icebreaker, or as Kasich put it, wrecking ball diplomacy, he exposes the game for what it is. But, in the same regard, Trump is not the solution, because he does not have the ability to unite people.

Kasich: Trump’s ‘wrecking ball diplomacy’ causing deep resentment among vital allies https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/kasich-trumps-wrecking-ball-diplomacy-causing-deep-resentment-among-vital-allies

Some time back you suggested Allen West and Catherine Austin-Fitts as VP. Do you see them being able to unite the population?

I also feel that a presidential candidate should not have any baggage, and with the MSM morphing into tabloids, it seems that the atmosphere is ripe for being able to easily weed-out the culls.

Wouldn’t it be great if the population had a field of noble candidates from which to select the next presidential team?

      • Sean Coleman July 9, 2018 at 12:31 pm #

What is a singularity? Genuine question.

        • sprawlcapital July 9, 2018 at 1:05 pm #

It’s when computers get smarter than humans, if I recall correctly.

          • Keizan July 9, 2018 at 2:19 pm #

It’s a little more complex than that, as I understand it. It’s also the point when our brains can be scanned and our consciousness duplicated in a computer, with the ultimate goal of being raptured up into the “cloud” where we can live for eternity in a digital heaven. Or maybe loaded into immortal androids something like “Westworld”. Either way, I’m not holding my breath.

          • 100th Avatar July 9, 2018 at 8:15 pm #

            Negative.

It’s when an artificial super-intelligence consciously uncouples from its human masters resulting in technological change at a blindingly exponential rate.

Don’t worry Neil DeGrasse thinks you can just unplug it. Because something that computes a quadrillion times quicker isn’t a step or a trillion ahead.

In a quadrillionth of a second.

          • K-Dog July 10, 2018 at 4:25 am #

Keizan says it is more complex. He is right.

I am a huge Westworld fan. The virtual library of 100 million nicely bound quality books, a book fully documenting the core code and decision tree for each human who had ever visited the Westworld park, was awesome.

Most of the books contained less than 10,000 lines of code. The dialog mentioned a few humans did have more code but not very many humans. Most human programs being nothing more than crude algorithms dedicated to survive at all costs. My program has at least 20,000 lines of code, I’m sure of it and parts of it are very well written. Not crude at all. The only way to keep the different dogs in line!

I joke, I’m the leader of my pack. but what is free will. The obvious consequence of having a high fidelity Westwood ‘host’ who was a perfect mimic of a Joe-Six-Pack tourist, an emulation, a copy perfect, with only 10,000 lines of core code. Such a simulacrum able to faithfully duplicate all choices with high fidelity shows as far as JSP goes the lights are on but nobody is home.

So the series closes suggesting some humans are exceptions and Dolores only had time to read a few books of human simulation code to find that out after all before the valley flooded. Could some core code grow into a thing of exquisite complex beauty all on its own containing endless wonders of delight?

If a simulation has to have self modifying code to be faithful copy would that indicate free will? I can modify my code therefore I am! I think it does. To be free to realize one’s dreams, to see oneself and improve oneself.

Series closed with a new Dolores incantation being racist claiming humans can’t change and only host protoplasm can. Like all fools who can’t see what is around them, lost in their own world she can’t look to see for herself that not all human code is dead and nondeterministic. She was created and set free by a free human yet she denies humans have any value not being able to see a part of herself. Not logical. Dolores would bite the hand that feeds her and next season she is ready to wipe us all out to ensure the survival of her kind.

Is Dolores free? She does change her mind, except it seems about wanting to wipe us out. What does that mean. What does having a blind spot mean.

“A freeze up of short-term lending would quickly lead to empty WalMart shelves and “no gas” signs at the filing stations. That’s when collapse finally goes kinetic, and becomes something more than just bad feelings inane ideas.”

The dependency of “First world” citizens on the functioning of “commerce” dictates that the governments must take “control” (in a very loose sense of the word) of markets to assure that people eat and their waste products are disposed.

I’m not saying that this will “work” in the sense of a sustainable society, but that this will be the stage that immediately follows the first instances of kinesis.

My prediction is that it will take war to really unravel things.

  5. peakfuture July 9, 2018 at 9:50 am #

We’ve been at war for a long time, sadly.

The one key element seems to be food; if people aren’t fed, they’ll get “kinetic.”

This is where I look toward’s Dmitry Orlov’s analyses on collapse.

There was a small incident this week that highlights the techno-grandiosity phenomenon at its very worst. Elon Musk (who else) could not help insinuating his arch-annoying self into the Thai rescue scene – even proposing a moronic “mini-submarine” be built (in a week?? a year??) for the rescue. He assured us that his staff was on the scene ready to provide whatever assistance the Thai divers needed. I can only imagine the gruffly worded wish of the That authorities to ‘get these annoying Silicon Valley techies the fuck out of here so we can work’

    • Exscotticus July 9, 2018 at 11:13 am #

I think Musk genuinely wants to help. But it does come across as grandstanding on a tragedy. Does anyone know who first used the term “submarine” to describe it? Was that the Fake News media or Musk’s own description?

  8. thenuttyneutron July 9, 2018 at 10:14 am #

If things do go kinetic, get humble. Keep your head down, mouth shut, and ears open.

You are seeing a sneak preview of things to come in Hati. They are dealing with violent protests over the price hikes on fuel. Many places have been burned and they are after American citizens hiding. They want to act out in violent ways to express their dissatisfaction with their current predicaments.

“… and they are after American citizens hiding.”

Yes, the ‘Horror of Ste Domingue’ revisited. Somehow, it will all be laid at the feet of Donald Trump. Hillary will probably use it as part of her next strategic subversion campaign, which is ironic given her & hubby’s previous efforts on that dark shore. Does anyone remember that 80s movie by Wes Craven, ‘the Serpent & the Rainbow’? Other than the miscegenation, it was a pretty good movie.

      ITS AFRO DNA.

JUST ANOTHER CANNIBALISTIC, MOTHER-RAPING WAR IN THE CONGO
UN human-rights experts—not that we trust them, nor that we even necessarily believe in or support human rights—have released a 126-page report detailing the grisly atrocities perpetrated between government forces and rebels in the Congo starting in late 2016.
You think Roots was bad? Listen to this:
      • Young boys were forced to rape their mothers (which assumes they had to be forced)
      • Soldiers ate victims’ flesh AS they died, not after they died
      • Soldiers “sported female genitals as medals”
      • Penises were cut from living men
      • Little girls were convinced that witchcraft would enable them to catch bullets without harm

After reading about the atrocities of the Congo and Nigeria my blood is really boiling.
Watching that ignorant invader from the Congo shut down the Statue of Liberty on the Fourth of July was insulting to say the least.

She needs to be put on the next plane back to her motherland. Tired of watching all these third world miscreants telling us how rotten we are.

Let that vile negress fight baby rapists in her own land.

Of course this is a horror show. But is it really a surprise? The average iq of sub Saharan Africa is under 80. That is about at the level of a 12 year old child. Africa is Lord of the flies at a continental scale.

Haiti is extreme example of a country once having a rail spine line, connected to the outside North American Rail network via train ferrys. The Cubans were also on that rail car ferry run, linked to New Orleans and, until 1935 Hurricane, Key West a second national rail network link.

The railway has a special attribute: apolitical, more like a neutral transportation tool, as opposed to the trucking mode. Trucks fail in crises much more readily than railway mode. In the case of the USA, General Motors Acceptance Corporation, NIMBYS and real estate developers proved capable of removing 100s of thousands of miles of railway branch line which, although marginal, were reliable physical hedge against famine.

In the case of Haiti, letting the railroad spine line collapse offered opportunities for gangs to take over the trucking systems left behind by NGO relief orgs. Relief organizations like the Red Cross, United Nations and Church (UMCOR) relief groups do not include rail & road distribution system concerns in their mandates. Haiti dies without fixing the tracks. The railroad in commerce, as well as strategic planning circles has a descriptive:

“Second Dimension Surface Transport Logistics Platform”

There are sources for interested parties (3000 US County OES offices) to identify and prioritize dormant rail corridor and associated warehousing/intermodal facilities. Circa 1960 and earlier Thomas Bros City and County maps can be found in archives, Comprehensive US rail map books by region, with all-time US rail footprint can be obtained from Mike Walker co. in Great Britain.

Even as Doctor Kunstler so often warns of financial crash, natural disaster (see “dutchsinse” earthquake news feed) and the ever present Asian and Middle East war games lurk. Famine is not out of the question, and America likely will sink to cannabalism on the way through coming events. If this worst of worst cases comes to pass, the lack of capillary rail branch lines connecting to agriculture and downtown will be a factor. Canada more recently abandoned their wheat belt rail branch lines, a salute to the tar sands and truckers.

North Korea and/or several other false flag perps can detonate nuclear devices over North America, killing the electric grid and motor transport. NOKO does not need re-entry payload design to achieve EMP/HAMP effects. As always, NOKO is cat’s paw for China, and unless decisively SLAMMED, will ultimately bring grievous harm. NOKO soon has submarines and ability to defeat BMEWS. We are under serious threat-, but always remember the poor bastards have got us surrounded. The world will find out just how dangerous a cornered America shall be.

Got water and food for a few weeks? Rails will get back in motion within weeks; trucking a year or longer, anarine capability and once having, renders US anti missile systems mootd probably more years -if ever- until “normal” rubber tire food distribution is achieved. Military bases are among few remaining warehouse sites with rail remnants; these must be used in the Famine Hedge solution set. JHK has for at least a decade lamented the loss of the passenger rail system; highest and best use of the parallel bars, ultimately, shall be famine hedge food distribution.

Wealthy hideouts fail when armed remnants systematically scour the wilderness, now having drones with infrared surveillance capabilities. Somebody always knows about things built in secret. Snipers can be posted for an extended period, etc. Better to rebuild the rail matrix… Maintain the Union of States (see Daniel 4 V-15) with the ties that bind together the roots against destruction.

      See you down the line….

My aged parents were secure and nurtured quite well at St. Francis Village, a Catholic retirement home on the shores of lovely Benbrook Lake, south of Ft. Worth. This is near the erstwhile lair of the combative Marguerite Oswald – I had a fancy of opening a small GUNS GRUB AMMO place on the lakeside and calling it ‘Oswald Marina’.

Anyway the two of them went hunting for a residence near Abilene, in near-panhandle country which was already clearly dying in the 1990s. You could buy a sturdy cut-stone house, old but ready to move into, for $20,000. But there was no industry and no work for two hours’ drive in any direction.

As my parents were roaming in search of proper accommodation I happened to see crews tearing up the train tracks in one of these towns. It was truly puzzling: the land they were freeing up was worth virtually nothing, there was no need for the right-of-way. Were they planning to sell the rails as scrap steel to a foreign power?

It frankly creeped me out, because I could baldly see how the rails had made it practical to build a town (such as it was) in that location in the first place. And now they were excising that reliable, permanent link to the world at large. At the time I did not really understand why it made me feel uneasy, though now I certainly do.

Texans, for all of their talk of ruggedness and independence, are so desperately dependent on automotive transport for every aspect of life that it is not even funny. It’s pitiful.

I’m reminded of a spinning plate act. A performer gets a plate spinning on a long stick. Then another and then another. If a plate starts to wobble the performer has to swirl the stick to spin the plate flat again. If it wobbles too much the plate falls.

Trump gave our plate stick a little swirl an got if flat for a couple of years. There was enough slack in the system for conservative enthusiasm to spin our plate flat. Stored energy, momentum. Now JHK says serious wobble by end of summer.

If we wobble bad is that collapse? If the 80/20 rule manifests with only 20% getting busted and 80% at half wages but everybody eats it would not be collapse. We would still be in Kansas Toto. Flip Pareto on his backside with 80% busted and 20% at half wages it would be collapse. The gate of hell fly open. Then the only thing left of Kansas will be green signs on steel poles along empty roads.

Experience in the collapse blog-o-sphere, there is such a thing, says things will be kept going by extraordinary means for longer than most people think. Technical band-Aids not to be confused with techo-narcissism will keep things going for a while. In former times that could lead to a long term decline but not for us. Only a fined tuned engine can feed 300 million people with only a fraction of these people feeding everybody else. Salads used to travel 1000 miles to get to your plate. Now they have to travel further. Everything will be sort of fine, until they can’t make the trip.

Then Trump is farming a golf course and you are dead.

This all seems to be encapsulated in the JSF F-35 jet fighter program. Just finished a lengthy critic today and everything Jim is outlining is going on in that program in spades.

Overly complex technology that doesn’t work in combined systems, physical performance never meeting the ideal specifications, a support system that will dwarf the original purchase budgets, and a plane that cannot launch into a new combat arena in any less than 15 hours due to the time it takes to upload the Mission Data.

The parallels and analogies are too many to summarize here. You have to read it for yourself.

And don’t forget the magical thinking presently employed while pushing the problem down the road with ever increasing costs to retrofit and repair.

But America can’t afford school lunches. Oh no, that’s socialist! (To be honest, from the Canadian perspective we always thought school lunches were an unwarranted luxury). A message from the great Socialist White North, pack your lunch ya hosers.

Not sure what part of Canada you live in, but where I live the school lunch program sources quite a bit of the food from local farmers and provides lunches at a very reasonable cost, subsidized for those whose families can’t afford to pay. I don’t know anyone who ever thought school lunches were an “unwarranted luxury”. Do you mean you think it’s okay for kids who for whatever reason don’t get a lunch from home to go hungry?

      • malthuss July 9, 2018 at 11:32 am #

        Poor in Canada??? Canada changed.

      • Tate July 9, 2018 at 11:41 am #

“Do you mean you think it’s okay for kids who for whatever reason don’t get a lunch from home to go hungry?”

Why not? I used to go without lunch many days. It’s not the end of the world. It teaches character. More children should go without lunch. Often, little black devils steal the lunch money of the white children, and then they have to do without. You sound like a typical librul.

        • GreenAlba July 9, 2018 at 12:58 pm #

‘More children should go without lunch’.

Well that would rather depend on what they were at school for and whether you want value for your education tax dollars.

In Tate World, though, the ‘little black devils’ did the ‘white children’ a favour by stealing their lunch money and helping build their character.

You could have gone down in history, Tate, if you’d shared with the powers that be the insight that they could dump the affirmative action measures and replace it by gangs popping by and stealing the black kids’ lunch money. Job done. No more gangs or welfare moms. More character all round.

In fact any wised-up white parents could have advised their kids to donate their lunch money to the black kids for a double-whammy character build.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, the brain needs glucose to function, whether it’s a librul one or a right-wing fruit-loop one, and hungry kids don’t learn as well as the ones with food in their stomach.

But don’t let it stop you siding with the ‘it never did me any harm’ brigade. They don’t know the harm it did them – which is a bit of a Dunning-Kruger branch line, isn’t it?

          • GreenAlba July 9, 2018 at 1:03 pm #

NB ‘librul’ and ‘right-wing fruit-loop’ does not claim to be an exclusive list of brain types, lest anyone should feel coerced into choosing one or the other, which I personally don’t.

But then I always got lunch at school.

          • malthuss July 9, 2018 at 1:50 pm #

the brain needs glucose to function,
and hungry kids don’t learn as well as the ones with food in their stomach.

And too much sugar and carbohydrate hampers brain function.

            ‘a right-wing fruit-loop’–you are fractious, as ever.

          • GreenAlba July 9, 2018 at 2:23 pm #

            Malthuss

I didn’t think I had to explain the chemical conversion of lunch into fuel for the brain. Did I suggest at any point that it would be a good idea to overload the kids’ digestive systems with ‘sugar and carbohydrates’? Is that what you eat for lunch?

The brain uses glucose for energy. If you don’t give it food, preferably including *some* carbohydrates, it will make glucose from stored fat and you’ll get ketotic breath in addition to being hungry.

            “You are fractious, as ever”.

You lack irony and self-awareness, as ever. Have you actually read the common epithets on this site for ‘liberals’?

I specifically said my list wasn’t exclusive. There are sensible right-wing people too. And left-wing people who aren’t necessarily ‘libruls’.

          • Janos Skorenzy July 9, 2018 at 6:20 pm #

And breakfast and dinner too. Why should they even bother going home? Let the School become Mother, Father, Family and all else to them.

            >>> whether it’s a librul one or a right-wing fruit-loop one

Pretty sure it’s the libruls that comprise the fruit-loop side of things. If you need to denigrate the right, just call them MAGAts.

          • GreenAlba July 10, 2018 at 4:11 am #

“And breakfast and dinner too. Why should they even bother going home? Let the School become Mother, Father, Family and all else to them.”

Always eager to jump on a point that wasn’t even made.

Where did I mention the state or say who should give the child lunch? I just said children don’t learn as well on an empty stomach, which is a biological point, not a political one. You, being obsessed, invented something that wasn’t there.

I mentioned ‘education tax dollars’ in the context of the tax dollars actually spent on education. If the child is hungry and can’t focus on learning, those tax dollars aren’t as effective, so YOUR money is being wasted. You know this, so stop making up nonsense. And especially making up nonsense and pretending it was something I wrote.

I am in no way stopping you from making lunch for any kids you see around you who look as if they could do with some, without interference from the state – pure Christian charity is always available to you.

          • GreenAlba July 10, 2018 at 4:26 am #

“Pretty sure it’s the libruls that comprise the fruit-loop side of things. If you need to denigrate the right, just call them MAGAts.”

You can be pretty sure of whatever you like. I’d say there are fruit loops pretty much everywhere. Fruit-loopery isn’t confined to one political view and you will have noticed, although tried not to, that I said my list was not exclusive.

When one writes ‘libruls’ instead of ‘liberals’ the term is already loaded, so it doesn’t require a derogatory adjective.

I don’t need to call anyone ‘MAGAts’, just as I don’t need to add ‘tard’ to anything as a rather repulsive insult, given its origins.

But I’d have thought anyone who considers MAGA to be possible in the traditional way is a bit out of place on this site anyway.

I have different views on what is great. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was great. Violette Szabo was great. The divers getting the children out of the cave in Thailand are great. None of them needed silly hats.

            >>> She could tell the difference between a man with real balls

Also, your mom shouldn’t be teaching you about men’s balls. Just saying.

          • GreenAlba July 13, 2018 at 9:42 am #

“Also, your mom shouldn’t be teaching you about men’s balls. Just saying.”

My mother wouldn’t have been capable of saying the word ‘balls’ in that context. She certainly didn’t teach me anything about them. She’d have had trouble acknowledging that they existed.

So, in that context, you were both ill advised, puritanical and downright silly.

You clearly missed the bit where I said fruit loopery could be found on either side of the political divide. But that doesn’t surprise me.

          >>> Human beings working together. For the opposite of selfishness.

What an ironic juxtaposition of comments. You do realize these kids were a soccer team, yes? Some of them may possibly go on to become the very footballers you denigrate. And it’s been reported that what these kids are most upset about now is having to miss the FIFA invitation to the World Cup final.

Millions of first responders help people all around the world every day. Most of them get paid. It’s their job. “Human beings working together” is not mutually exclusive to either selfishness or self-interest.

          • GreenAlba July 10, 2018 at 12:02 pm #

God, you can’t give up, can you?

Yes I do realise they were a soccer team. I’m not a footie fan but one of the things (pretty much THE thing) I like about it is seeing young boys in streets and waste ground pretty much anywhere in the entire world, no matter how poor and no matter what colour, creed or race, getting the same fun out of it.

And I’d have loved to see them well enough to get to the cup final.

Are you really so lacking in insight that you think that means I have to think it’s great that millions of pounds are exchanged with one footballer, who might be paid a quarter of a million pounds a week? No need to answer that. Your comment speaks for itself.

Same lack of insight in your last para. Most first responders aren’t doing something this dangerous every day. One diver died – a Navy Seal.

Why do you think being uplifted by seeing these particular divers saving these particular boys means I don’t value other first responders?

““Human beings working together” is not mutually exclusive to either selfishness or self-interest.”

You don’t say. That observation was worthy of a tick in a 14-year-old’s social studies essay.

          • GreenAlba July 10, 2018 at 12:09 pm #

And in terms of the (British-led), international team of divers and doctors, the volunteers, as opposed to the rescue services and military, were just expert cave-divers. It wasn’t their job. The cave-diving doctor was, you know, a doctor.

            >>> who might be paid a quarter of a million pounds a week?

Football pays whatever the market supports. And they do get taxed quite heavily, yes?

Let me guess: you think the government should decide how much people get paid? Or maybe you want a special 99% income tax just for footies?

Saw that evidence this Spring in S. Florida. Lived there for a number of years so I have a little more than a newcomer POV. Given the hurricanes of 2017, the widely advertised global climate change with rising sea levels as evidenced by Miami Beach sunny days flooding, one would think people would finally start taking proactive measures.

Nope, new houses still going up in the Keys. With developers salivating over the decimated trailer parks that they can now turn into condo’s or gated villa communities. They couldn’t dislodge the trailer park residents through lawful means, but nothing a little hurricane or two can’t take care of.

Conclusion: Correct, it is long time coming yet when it really falls apart in these jurisdictions and there will be lots of magical and stupid thinking along the way. Florida will slowly unwind like a window shade being rolled up from south to north.

Here and there it pulls into small town train stations. Passengers get off the shaking nightmare believing a new electric train will come along to zip them to paradise. It never comes.

A lot of people are not getting carried along with the crazy train and are being stranded. We seem to forget about them all too easily. Seems as long as one person stays on the crazy train we think all is well.

      Or at least good enough.

And yet you continue to extol the “benefits” of socialism. Socialist collapse has already occurred. Will it lead the way or do you see socialism as the future form of societal organization, post collapse?

It appears that many people get hung up on the ism words. The big name isms, like capitalism, socialism, and communism, that people throw around without relly ever having read much about them all came about during the building glut of oil usage. We may pass through various hybrids of any or all of these isms on the way down. However, the end result might look like something we can’t quite image right now.

As for the isms, I am not sure how capitalism, with it’s need for excess wealth and everyone doing only their own thing and only interested in their self interest will fare in a low energy environment. Does history or reality minus ideological wishing offer any example of any kind?

Socialism and communism as presented by their founders are products of industrialism. The components for true socialism or communism to function may not exist down the line.

In other words, we are lucky to have the ability to argue about these isms these days. Down the line our kids may hate us for getting all worked up about our stupidity when the only thing they can worry about is survivalism.

          • Sean Coleman July 9, 2018 at 12:41 pm #

I don’t like -isms either. I was just thinking a few minutes ago that everyone assumes that capitalism is based on trade but I am convinced by the late Raymond Crotty that it is essentially an agricultural thing, a slow process of reinvesting in draught animals and tools and equipment which was forced on the earliest pastoral settlers in central western Europe (or was that western central Europe?) of solving the problem of providing winter fodder for long hard winters. Around 1000 northern Europe finally overtook the south in output despite its poor climate. The margins remained thin even into living memory. I was reading that Icelandic classic Independent People this morning and the proud, independently-spirited farmer, Bjartur, killed the cow (it was taking scarce hay from the sheep and he never wanted her anyway) even though that would cause his wife’s death. It was something like this everywhere.

          • shabbaranks July 9, 2018 at 6:45 pm #

Sean Coleman, thanks for the reference to Raymond Crotty. I checked out his Wikipedia entry – interesting fellow. I’m now in search of his books. Much appreciated.

          • TiredOfTheTreadmill July 9, 2018 at 8:57 pm #

            @Sean Coleman

Concerning the death of the wife in your example by the killing of the cow, and and unknown others in the “It was something like this everywhere” sentence. Do we attribute those deaths to capitalism, or just what was going on at the time?

This is a cynically sarcastic question because people always want to attribute the system they don’t like with the higher body count, without considering that there may have been a 10-year drought that did the killing while socialists or capitalists happened to live in the area.

From my 57 years of observing it appears that killing down the power hierarchy has been ok in most all societies, or the laws are designed to allow it to happen even if through slow poisoning. It’s when killing someone kills up the power hierarchy that people go nuts.

            TOTT

I think you misunderstand the point I was trying to make. I don’t like theorizing by using ‘-isms’ because they are too vague and you are only wasting your time. You end up with the kind of nonsense that Lacan wrote. I agree that they are recent ideas.

I was saying that capitalism is essentially an agricultural thing rather than arising from trade and certainly nothing to do with ideology. It was a way of scraping a living in difficult conditions in cold climates. The Iceland of a hundred years ago or so was not of the core capitalist area but seems to have shared much in common. Laxness conveys the constant uphill struggle.

For two years now I have been following the recordings in Brezhoneg Digor, which are made up of the reminiscences of the last surviving generation of fluent Breton speakers. Their recollections of living on the land are much closer to Laxness’s novel than to anything most of us are familiar with now. My own mother, who is 102 and still lives on her own, was born onto a small farm in the west of Ireland. I must ask her if she remembers the spinning wheel – the elderly Bretons still do, in much the same way as Homer knew it. Until the middle of the 20th century life in most parts of Europe (let alone anywhere else) was closer in many essential ways to what it had been like over previous millenia than to what we have now. If it breaks down we are heading back there, after a short period of ‘adjustment’, but without many or most of the skills that made life bearable for our ancestors.

A curious coincidence: in one of the BD recordings a speaker recounted her first encounter with tomatoes, probably soon after WW2. When she bought them she thought they were little apples. My mother told me that when she first bought them she had the same idea. She tasted one and it was sour so she threw them all away.

I replied to your last comment but I must have messed it up.

The two books to read are Ireland In Crisis (1985) and his posthumous When Histories Collide. As you can tell from its title, the former focusses more on Irish history, but this is (unexpectedly perhaps) relevant in that Ireland, which as a pastoral society was civilizationally distinct from the capitalist heartland of central western Europe and which was also the longest and most pervasively ‘capitalist colonized’ of them all.

When Histories Collide covers the same ground but goes in into more detail about the capitalist nature of agriculture in W. Europe (or should that be the agricultural nature of capitalism?). (This is treated in the extensive appendices to the other book.) I have read both at least twice.

Crotty was unique. He was a self-taught farmer before becoming a self-taught academic economist. Disillusioned with that he became an agricultural advisor in the Third World (where, he says, he was almost unique in having a practical understanding of stock keeping as opposed to tillage). He was also a fierce critic of Ireland’s membership of the EU and risked everything he possessed in his successful challenge in the courts of the State’s approach (which was to go over the heads of the people), thereby ensuring the right to a referendum (unique in Europe I believe) for any further extensions of EU power over Ireland. (The people still vote for the EU but they can only have themselves to blame.)

President Trump is doing EVERYTHING right, even concerning the tariffs:

According to Bill Still, Jonas Max Ferris was asked about the potential severity of the so-called mini-trade war, when Jonas offered an incredible reply. President Trump may be contemplating a gradual transformation into a new system of taxation that would guarantee that President Trump went down in history as one of the greatest American presidents. The US may be moving back towards a value-added tax and/or tariffs and away from the hated and economically destructive income taxes.

It is usually wrong, and sometimes destructive, to be dismissive of your opponents. Where you see imbecility, I see pattern….

As an example,Trump’s intuitive understanding of the Media as an intractable enemy led him to solutions that actually, while appearing boorish, or childish, were effective in the MSM’s neutralization. He did not have to learn of their enmity the hard way, through experience, but rather assumed it, correctly, from history and observation.

        They were simply “Trumped”….

Nixon should have been as prescient.

I think the loss of America’s soul, as opposed to her money, began in the 50’s with Bubble Gum music. The cynical business move to get the new boomer demographic paying up, led in time to the death of American Popular Music. Remember “Your Hit Parade”, well most of the modern world tuned in to Tin Pan Alley and loved it. No more. TV seems to have died aborning and shows little quality of life. National Public Radio got itchy palms along the way and sold out. Movies struggled along valiantly but the grim reaper lurks now along Sunset Blvd.  Don’t even mention the web which is home to more Click Bait than there are land mines in Egypt.

And, Georges1202, more amazing yet is that this is apparently no cause for comment, when ‘serious critics’ discuss Batman and Spiderman action films like they were talking about an Orson Welles, Ridley Scott or John Badham epic. When moronic computer games outsell any other form of electronic entertainment can you not be forgiven for thinking the adults are out for the evening?

‘A’ List actors who in olden days would have scowled and considered themselves insulted by being asked to play funny book characters today accept it as a matter of course.

Who would know if the Fed or Treasury added a couple of zeros onto Exxon’s profit statement and turn a billion into 100 billion? We’ve done similar things for all sorts of debt. The factories are long gone and they are not coming back. This information has taken a long time to gain acknowledgement. America is tightening its belt, an unpleasant fact for the elites who still cling to a fantasy America that probably never existed. There is talk of a second civil war — not going to happen. To be sure, some will be killed before a measure of calm is achieved; it’s expected and planned for. Police have been upgraded to military style equipment for just this purpose. They could see it coming.
Why do I see this in a positive light? Once you know the man behind the curtain can’t help get you back to Kansas you are able to devise your own plans on getting back home. The people in DC have no solution and no part to play in bringing about this change, especially not Trump who doubled the estate tax exemption from $5.49 mil to $11.18 mil, thus ensuring that money remains firmly lodged in the 1% coffers.
No advanced country can survive without a middle class. The country either plummets to irrelevance or, develops a way to maintain its middle class base.

“Police have been upgraded to military style equipment for just this purpose. They could see it coming.”

As part of that “upgrade” every law enforcement agency in the country has been informed of their place in an organizational chart that extends vertically back to Homeland Security. The re-organization exists only on paper until the time when the Emergency is declared – then “Presto!” All local chains of command disappear (except to the extent that they agree with the chart).

      • SpeedyBB July 12, 2018 at 7:39 am #

Do you not mean ‘disagree’, Epicur? If they were to agree with the chart they would fall into line. Otherwise it come down to the style of warlord rivalry you see in Latinoamerica where army units, police and air force are often at odds and even go to war with one another, as frightened politicians cower in the corner, waiting to see who comes out on top.

The scenario I’ve imagined is one where a black American Lt. Col. with a considerable degree of command authority at a base somewhere in the deep south has one of his children killed, ‘driving-while-black’, or his wife gets beat up and thrown into prison. An impromptu vigilante force from the base could wreak considerable damage on tubby, sleepy, doughnut-chewing cops. We may seem far from that kind of confrontation at the moment but human beings the way they are, enough stress, frustration and humiliation will make them do astonishing acts. You see it everywhere else nations devolve into shitholes; why not in the home of the brave?

      Luhren,
The “middle class” is entirely a 20th century construct, and arguably only a 60 year experiment, at that. I would opine that it is/was an anomaly. Unfortunately, as that grand experiment in economic equality recedes into the pale horizon, we will need some form of Socialism to exist. I believe that this is an absolute, and cannot be argued otherwise.

          Luhren

We need a definition of “middle class” that can accommodate the American model as well as the claims of history. What makes a middle class? Economic well-being? Class mobility?
Freedom from want? Consumable income? Significant percentage of the population’s inclusion?

          I will read your reference.

          • elysianfield July 9, 2018 at 5:46 pm #

            Luhren,
I cannot conflate the merchant class in distant European history with a middle class as seen in America. By population percentage alone, it was insignificant as a “middle” class.

I can understand your offering for the sake of argument, but the American model, of 40-60% of the population being middle class is a more apt reference…a definition most could accept. Your suggestion that a scant 1% of a population could be considered “middle” anything will be difficult to defend against the example of the American model.

            How ’bout these ?

“The lower middle class is petty bourgeois. These people seek their security in status; status in an organizational structure. They try to find a place for themselves in an organization which has a hierarchy in which they can count on moving up automatically simply by surviving. Some people still think that most Americans are active, assertive, aggressive, self-reliant people who need no help from anyone, especially the Government, and achieve success as individuals by competing freely with each other. That may have been true 100 years ago. It isn’t true today. Today more and more of us are petty bourgeois who snuggle down in a hierarchical bureaucracy where advancement is assured merely by keeping the body warm and not breaking the rules; it doesn’t matter whether it is education or the Armed Services or a big corporation or the Government. Notice that high school teachers are universally opposed to merit pay. They are paid on the basis of their degrees and years of teaching experience. Or consider the professor. He gets his Ph. D. by writing a large dissertation on a small subject, and he hopes to God he never meets anyone else who knows anything about that subject. If he does, they don’t talk about it; they talk about the weather or baseball. So our society is becoming more and more a society of white-collar clerks on many levels, including full professors. They live for retirement and find their security through status in structures.”

These picayune arguments about what comprises “middle class” have nothing to do with the subject at hand. You either have something to contribute to the discussion or you are merely looking to score in a juvenile “gotcha” stratagem.

“These picayune arguments about what comprises “middle class” have nothing to do with the subject at hand. ”

            Luhren,
When the subject is the destruction of the middle class, a classification you consider as essential to the maintenance of an advanced society, it would further the discussion to be able to define your terms. What you and I see as an example of a “middle class” share no common definition.

We agree, however, that a large population of consumers, willing and able to spend is a good thing, and it’s destruction foretells the “end of empire”.

You further suggest that the specter of Socialism may be suggested in our future…I reply that it is inexorable.

What exchange? I try to define a working definition for “middle class”, and you provide dismissive invective.

Keynesian economists have a definition of a “middle class” that has no commonality with your middle-ages definition. It becomes difficult to discuss a topic, even at a puerile level, (as you suggest) without a consensus on the base issue.

To suggest that an “advanced” country cannot exist without guild members, and perhaps a handful of craftsmen and merchants…is not a well thought out position.

Collapse might be compared to watching a full bath tub drain. When the drain is first opened the process appears to be moving slowly, as the process continues and the tub empties the process appears to be moving at an accelerated rate. The reality of course is that the vented pipe can only carry a defined volume and the rest is perception. As there is less and less in the tub it appears to be draining faster, and as noted about going broke, all at once it is empty.

  22. capt spaulding July 9, 2018 at 11:25 am #

Climatologists used to believe that when the climate changed, it did so very slowly, gradually getting either warmer or colder. Nowadays, they refer to “tipping points”, ie: things go along at a gradual pace, building up pressure, until it reaches a point where everything happens at once. Like putting gradual strain on a cable until it finally snaps. It seems to me that that was just what happened in 2008, the financial system gradually reached the point that it became untenable and then things happened rapidly, necessitating emergency measures to be applied immediatly. It’s happening now, slowly, until it reaches that breaking point when it will snap just like that cable. The difference this time is that there may be no fix. But hey, don’t worry, the Republicans know what it takes to keep things going. Cut taxes and deregulate, it worked so well last time.

      • capt spaulding July 9, 2018 at 2:09 pm #

US Treasury Historical Records. “US Debt by President by Dollars and by Percent. Bush added 5.849 trillion to the debt. A 101% increase from the debt at the end of Clinton’s last budget FY2001. Trump’s FY 2019 budget proposal will add 8.282 trillion in his first term which will add as much in his first term as Obama did in two terms. Those are the Treasury Dept. numbers, not mine. There’s plenty more there as well, but hey, don’t let those pesky numbers slow you down. After all, everybody knows the Treasury is riddled with lefty liberals, who will stop at nothing to demonize good, God fearing conservatives such as yourself. While I’m at it, please explain when a tolerance for corruption & criminality becomes a conservative value as long as you’re getting the policy outcomes you want? Bonus points if you can explain it without using the words Obama, or Hilary, or Duh liberal media. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Look up the numbers yourself, moron.

        • hmuller July 9, 2018 at 3:41 pm #

It’s not useful to blame any particular President, since they all have only been tools of the International Banking Cartel (with the possible exception of Trump) .

Instead, look at the nature of a fiat currency system. Money is born in the form of debt, repayable with interest. As a whole the debt cannot be repaid but must grow, otherwise we go into a spiraling money death dance with cascading bankruptcies,

In time, the day inevitably arrives when the debt is growing much faster than the economy. That’s when we know the system is doomed, it’s just a question of time.

Some very mainstream bankers and economists are now openly talking about “a reset”. Sounds bland enough, but it amounts to a big screw job-wealth transfer. Remember, when you wipe out (forgive) someone’s debts you are wiping out someone else’s assets.

There are many ways to do a reset, and the devil is in the details. Will the Uber-wealthy suffer, or will the middle class and working class suffer more?

In any case federal deficits now matter about as much as they did in 1788 France, i.e. it’s too late. A big storm is coming and a hard rain will wash away those debts.

        • hmuller July 9, 2018 at 5:05 pm #

Since you like numbers, Spaulding, let’s take a more comprehensive look at the accumulated federal debt numbers.

          Reference: https://www.treasurydirect.gov/NP/debt/search?startMonth=01&startDay=18&startYear=1993&endMonth=07&endDay=06&endYear=2018

Here’s the federal debt on some keys dates

          Jan 20, 1993 $ 4,188,092,107,183.60

          Jan 19, 2001 $ 5,727,776,738,304.64

          Jan 20, 2009 $ 10,626,877,048,913.08

          Jan 20, 2017 $ 19,947,304,555,212.49

          Jul 06, 2018 $ 21,205,959,245,607.94

This means the following percentage increases during the 8 yr terms

          Clinton 36.76%
          Bush Jr 85.53%
          Obama 87.70%

Trump in just under 1.5 years is up 6.31% or 1.258 trillion.

I’m not sure where you’re getting 8.282 trillion for his first term, but it seems a little high. Admittedly, I can’t predict the debt 2.5 years out; and I suspect neither can you.

          • hmuller July 9, 2018 at 5:23 pm #

Not wanting to nitpick, but I know how much you love exact numbers, Spaulding.

Your claim that Bush increased the debt by 5.849 trillion or 101% is exaggerated; the correct number there is 4.899 trillion and 85.53%

Your claim that Trump will increase the debt 8.282 trillion during his first term is unfulfilled and questionable. But more to the point you claimed this was more than Obama increased the debt in 8 years. Wrong. Obama increased the debt 9.320 trillion.

Don’t you just love numbers, Spaulding?

          • Anon1970 July 10, 2018 at 12:23 am #

Bush Jr.’s Middle East war related expenses have a long tail and a big chunk of them have and will be incurred over a period of perhaps 50 years after he left office. I am referring to VA benefits. Medical advances since the Viet Nam war resulted in fewer American military deaths but a lot of survivors with physical injuries and mental health issues collecting disability benefits. The deficit and national debt numbers are a snap shot at a point in time but do not reflect major unfunded liabilities. The US government is allowed to get away with using cash accounting instead of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). We should all hope that the system does not blow up in our life times.

It was nice of you, however to step in and respond to my post to Malthus and in doing so I think you have acquired a sycophant. As for me, it’s a waste of time to engage in an argument online when the time can be better spent training or reading. May you live in interesting times.

          • hmuller July 12, 2018 at 8:10 pm #

Spaulding, these are not “my numbers”; they are the Treasury Department’s numbers (which can see for yourself by visiting the site).
Good luck with your training and reading. Let’s hope it leads to more care in presenting accurate numbers.

    • Ol' Scratch July 9, 2018 at 11:57 am #

It seems to me that that was just what happened in 2008, the financial system gradually reached the point that it became untenable and then things happened rapidly, necessitating emergency measures to be applied immediatly. It’s happening now, slowly, until it reaches that breaking point when it will snap just like that cable. The difference this time is that there may be no fix.

Assuming they’re not yet ready to openly default and reorganize around a new, likely all electronic currency, the only choice will be another round of bailouts and QE to the Stars. It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out, but I think it will likely be another round of extend and pretend. But who knows, maybe Trump will surprise us all yet again.

        • Tate July 9, 2018 at 7:23 pm #

The problem with one nation’s currency being used as a reserve currency in a purely fiat system is what’s called the Triffin Dilemma (q.v.). The surplus reserves keep piling up with no normal ebbs & flows on the books of the exporting nations’ central banks, but only one-way flows. Trade deficits become a permanent condition. It was recognized from the start that the U.S. manufacturing base & jobs would be exported abroad. John Maynard Keynes at Bretton Woods proposed something called the bancor to address these problems but it was never fully adopted. The SDR was a halfway measure, if I’m not mistaken.

  23. volodya July 9, 2018 at 11:41 am #

Fallen Hero, you make a good point, things can stumble along for a long time.

The various 20th Century communist revolutions had long gestational periods. Discontent had been festering in European sweatshops and under abusive land-owning aristocracies for many generations, Marxist thinking took shape with the writings of Marx and Engels in the mid 1800s. But the Bolshevik take-over of Russia happened in 1917, the Chinese Communists took over in 1949.

I think that it’s the same type of thing nowadays. The economic dissolution of America and the west in general has been underway for two generations. Political and social reactions won’t be instantaneous but will similarly take shape over time.

In the interim, the Democrat side and Republican sides of the ruling elite have been successfully distracting American workers from economic matters with irrelevancies like tranny washroom facilities and gay marriage, narrow issues that involve small slivers of the population.

But you can’t fool all the people all of the time. This is what Trump’s election represents, people finally awakening to their disastrous economic situation.

While Republican presidential contenders tried to persuade voters to embrace this bogus idea of free and unfettered markets and thus their own immiserization thus proving that they’re REAL Americans, Trump told these same voters that they’d been screwed, that they shouldn’t stand for it.

Democrats sneered at the Republican voting base, alternately minimizing their economic difficulties or calling them racist cretins. The Democrats make a lot of noise about issues like illegal immigration, advocating for non-Americans, all the while ignoring the massive problems with homelessness and drug use in coastal bastions of the Democratic party.

Now, assuming that Democrat voters aren’t complete morons, they too will have an awakening, a realization that their political leaders led them down the garden path and fucked them right in the ear.

But these things take time. Collapse is a generations long process, so will be the reactions to it. Something will take shape in place of the unworkable present day economy and similarly with politics.

    • Ol' Scratch July 9, 2018 at 11:51 am #

Now, assuming that Democrat voters aren’t complete morons, they too will have an awakening, a realization that their political leaders led them down the garden path and fucked them right in the ear.

LOL! Facts nowhere in evidence! If Obama and HRC didn’t wake them up, I think they’re going to need a whole lot more convincing.

      • Exscotticus July 9, 2018 at 12:07 pm #

I agree—no evidence of an “awaking” whatsoever. Quite the contrary; liberals have doubling- tripled- quadrupled-down on identity politics. The left-most fringe is taking over the “moderate” leadership. A new strategy has emerged: open borders and socialism! If ever there were two immiscible concepts, this would be it.

        • Tate July 9, 2018 at 1:58 pm #

Good point, Exscotticus. Those two concepts mix like oil & water. But don’t they know it? Of course they do, much like the Obama mouthpiece — can’t recall his name — gave away the Cloward-Pivens-like strategy behind Obamacare.

          • Tate July 9, 2018 at 3:17 pm #

Jonathan Gruber, that is the name of that sleaze ball who was the architect of Obamacare.

“Yeah, we lied to the stupid American people to get it passed.”

        • Janos Skorenzy July 9, 2018 at 2:26 pm #

Paul Krugman contains both ideas in his own person, but not at the same time, at least not outwardly. Just different hats. When he’s wearing his rational hat, he says that a welfare state cannot have open borders. When he wears his Cloward-Piven hate America hat, he calls borders a crime against humanity.

      • volodya July 9, 2018 at 12:09 pm #

If Obama and HRC didn’t wake them up, I think they’re going to need a whole lot more convincing. – ol scratch

        They might.

And don’t forget horn-dog Bill’s part in this unfolding calamity.

The most absurd part of the Democrat voting coalition is the assumption that people like HRC and the upper echelons of the Democrat power elite give a shit about Black people, that HRC gave a shit about the troubles of Black women. The thought is laughable. Oh, and Hispanics. That’s another on-going joke.

What we have here is an opportunity for a political entrepreneur to come along and say this, that this is the time for seeing reality, that life is built around work and family, and that America is about work and family. Because if America isn’t about work and family then what is it about?

A message like that, and policies attuned to those two priorities, could cut across present day party lines.

But it has the ring of authoritarian conservatism, of stern patriarchs ruling their households with an iron fist. No doubt, the old guard Democrats will decry it as incipient fascism, just like we have nowadays with pundits decrying Trump and his followers.

But it has no workable competing alternatives. Everything posited since the 1960s has been a model for social disintegration, with stressed out, messed up kids from divorced parentage, impoverished single mother households, rampant opioid use, homelessness, joblessness, a minimum wage gig economy.

Is this the model for the future? I’d like to think that even Democrat party members have got a few brain cells to rub together. We can only hope.

        • Walter B July 9, 2018 at 12:51 pm #

Politicians caring about black people is a real bad joke. I spent last week baby-house-dog-sitting for a friend of mine who is a government official in a large New Jersey city. When I first arrived, we spent an hour riding around viewing the changes and plans that the mostly black government has been implementing to alter the demographics of the city. For decades now, demolishing the high rise “projects” has been going on and the building of two-story townhouse type rentals have been going up in their place in all of NJ’s urban places. Large, old single family homes in the outlying areas have been renovated into multi family rentals as well. Blacks in large numbers have been provided transportation and cash to move out to the hinterlands, or wherever they care to go and Hispanics have been moving in by the tens of thousands. I was told that 30% of the residents of this place were actual illegal or non-documented aliens and that this was the plan. These people, for the most part are terrified of being deported and consequently tow the line and work as many low paying jobs as they can get in order to get by. Yes, gangs and drugs are still a problem, but nowhere near the extent that they were with black populations, or so I was told. Out here where I live I am seeing more and more black/white couples, more interracial adoptions, and more “affordable” rental construction being pushed by Trenton for those being moved out of the urban areas. Now the open, public government may not be able to admit to any kind of ethnic engineering future population model, but the covert, hidden government may very well have started a program of “solving a serious crime problem” by a coercive breeding/relocation agenda under the table. I have no idea what to even begin to think about such a possibility, but I must admit that when you throw in a bunch of other details that I am aware of, my head is still spinning on what exactly we are all being subjected to and how it will all play out.

          • Anon1970 July 10, 2018 at 12:43 am #

This kind of demographic engineering has been going on in other metro areas as well. The black population of Oakland, CA dropped significantly between 2000 and 2010. Some moved to distant suburbs like Pittsburg and Antioch while others probably left the Bay area entirely.

        • Janos Skorenzy July 9, 2018 at 2:31 pm #

You brought up the issue only to dismiss it. The question is, Which families? White? Black? Or Hispanic? A Nation is a big family and these groups simply can’t be in the same nation. It was hard enough just reconciling the different White ethnes – and that’s when we were strong. You want to reconcile these others when we’re weak? Dream on. The Elite have thought about it and their solution is to destroy Whites. And then breed the noxious mix all together. It’s not going to work. We won’t let it.

          • Walter B July 9, 2018 at 2:46 pm #

To me it appears that this would be an attempt to eliminate both blacks and whites and replace them with something in the middle. To me it is a movement towards a vast US verses THEM both genetically as well as economically. But then I am a conspiracy theorist. I am not dismissing this Janos, but this can only be discussed to a small degree here in Cyberspace, especially with the other things that I have uncovered that are not for general consumption.

          • Janos Skorenzy July 9, 2018 at 6:52 pm #

No, you found out these Truth on cyberspace so you must teach them on cyberspace – that is the Dharma of an Old Man. What have you got to lose that you aren’t already about to lose anyway?

Dharma in this context translates as “Duty” but with a more organic connotation. Thus it is fire’s dharma to give heat and light. It can not give these and remain what it is.

Everything is reversed. Real Life is in Cyber space now, the physical world just a pale reflection. Why? Because the Truth can only be said in Cyber space for the most part.

It takes generations to wipe out one breeding with a Black. That is their function for the Elite – as a solvent to dissolve the higher races. In and of themselves, they don’t matter and could be easily dealt with. But they are a terrible weapon in the hands of the Global Slave Masters.

          • Walter B July 9, 2018 at 7:45 pm #

Pretty much my thinking also, but it has been going on since the Vietnam War. We started borrowing to pay for weapons to fight the commies and things went downhill from there. Fiat currency creates a lot of anxiety at the high levels of banking and finance. The abrogation of Bretton Woods by Nixon and Connelly started the downward trend. All that has saved us so far is mythical stock and bond market values held up by an assiduous Federal Reserve.

There is a lot of forward inertia in an economy like ours. So the fall will take some time. Empty ATMs or bank holidays will be penultimate to empty store shelves. (Or, perhaps, the other way around.) Of course, it could happen quickly, but as with anything involving money and voodoo there are a few more tricks up the sleeves of the money “priests.”

    • Epicur July 9, 2018 at 11:58 am #

“but as with anything involving money and voodoo there are a few more tricks up the sleeves of the money “priests.””

Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) is the fancy title for the next phase. We are already morphing into it. It will work, but there is one catch: the government has to have a lot of power to control things.

More power in fewer hands: What could possibly go wrong?

      • Epicur July 9, 2018 at 12:23 pm #

I should add that “to control things” means assigning resources. As our host noted in his post “growth” is no longer the paradigm (although that has not dawned on most of the population – including most economists). Without an abundance of speculative “growth” to provide trickle down cash the government will have assign limited resources within a balanced physical system.

      • Dumbedup July 9, 2018 at 6:19 pm #

I assume you are talking about rationing. (They won’t call it that.)

MMT is the name they gave to a currency system that simultaneously is the world’s reserve currency and is also debt. (not backed by anything other than a promise)

One aspect of it is that to function as the RC means we have to export dollars. (run trade deficits) The phenomena is knows as Triffin’s Dilemma. Trump’s trade war threatens to unseat the dollar. If that happens it will trigger first a recession and then deflation. There will be too few dollars chasing too many goods.

        • Tate July 9, 2018 at 8:14 pm #

I didn’t see your comment here before mentioning Triffin’s Dilemma in a comment I made above. You’re correct, Trump’s trade war is a serious threat to the dollar reserve currency regime. The system was designed to run on permanent deficits.

    • Dumbedup July 9, 2018 at 6:25 pm #

I just want to add that I think they can keep this (economy) on life support for awhile. Probably until well after 2020. The last resort for a nation like ours going bankrupt is war. But that won’t be the end – it will just be a transition.

My parents enjoyed better times than I and I have enjoyed better times than my children will live through. They will see big changes in their lifetimes and their children, if they have any, will see the end of the US as a Republic. We will morph into a dictatorship – probably as the result of a military coup.

They may feel swindled but they’ve little reason for that. A lot of his base didn’t have a pot to piss in when the last meltdown happened so they didn’t have all that much to be angry about, but for damned sure the base elected one of the worst swindlers imaginable so now they can bend over yet again for a GOP huckster.

They voted for Donnie Dotard mostly because he played the race card by scapegoating Mexicans for crime and job losses. Racism is what political con artists typically use to energize low info types and it works most of the time.

Never mind that crime is near all time lows since the 1980s and unemployment is said stated as 3.8% or such. Never mind that many job losses were due to automation and robotics, not all those little brown men running around doing yard work for people.

Ask Trump. His company moved contracts to Bangladesh when they found Indonesians, Hondurans and Mexicans to be too expensive for them. Bangladeshi workers are the cheapest on earth, which is why Trump gave them jobs in preference to Americans.

Not that any Indonesians, Hondurans or Mexicans, on the whole, could ever have afforded the final product. But Trump’s a globalist, so he know that. He’s happy for Americans to buy his shirts and ties, though. Those American who can afford them anyway.

Also reminds me of the time when Drudge, in his more sensationalist phase, was trying to beat the majors on one of the pope’s deaths.

I understand and agree that date setting never works and it always sounds like so much Chicken Little BS as time passes without serious calamities actually happening. There is, however, great value in the message that should not be overlooked. Those with vision enough to see where the path is leading before the nearsighted crowd can grasp the facts are always scoffed at and understandably so. It does not make those who see wrong and if the message is one of planning and increased consideration for the future and not simply doom, doom, doom, then there is great value in listening to what is said. We fat and happy Americans have lived in affluence far too long and have consumed far more than was our fair share. A message of conservation, needing and using less, losing the debt, and the proverbial “saving for a rainy day” is simply good practice and will always pay dividends to those who heed the wisdom in such advice.

Think of all those hard-working Americans whose jobs he would sacrifice on the profane blood-soaked altar of his worship of St. Hillary & her repulsive minions & ministers of the Dark Arts, such as the satanic Podesta brothers. It should stick in the craw of any decent human being to even entertain the slightest possibility of such an outcome.

One wonders just how depraved & reprehensible one individual has to be to stoop to the level of the goat-headed Maher, who looks like a cross between Baphomet on a bad-hair day & the Arch-Fiend himself in a Goya painting. Now we hear he is offering the tidy sum of $1 million dollars to ‘Mittens’ Romney of all people to “take over America,” as he so slickly puts it. “Swear to god!” he exclaims. “I will become a Mormon, how about that?” Yeah, how about that. What exactly would that entail? I’m sure the elders of the church of LDS are on the edge of their seats at the prospect. As much so probably as the American people are eager to receive King “Bain Capital” Romney as their new Commander-in-Chief.

The shrieking hysteria of the #Resistance becomes more appalling with each passing day. A sane observer must simply stand back & watch in slack-jawed wonder as the Democrat party tears itself apart before his very eyes.

Babylonian Whore, Trump and the World Cup in Moscow

I will say that, generally speaking, the events and people described in the Holy Scripture are a template which is reproduced in history over and over again, but of course every time new circumstances are superimposed on this template, distorting the purity of the picture, and this template is reproduced to the greatest details at the End of Times, realized one to one.

It’s about the Babylonian Whore, if that’s not clear enough.

This thought, though not in such a formulation, swept over my head, when I accidentally telepathically connected to one of the players of the Croatian national team, and realized that this was no longer football, it was a war.

He played at the gate of the Russian team, laying his hands behind his back, and recalled how he either killed people, or people were killed in front of his eyes. We will never know what it was: my imagination overstretch, or I had an alternative state of consciousness again. If these were memories, then it was in Ukraine, because in order for it to be memories of the Operation Storm Domagoj Vida was to witness war scenes at the age of 6 years.

Although it is possible that he recalled the film that he was watching, or I was thinking about the film I was watching, it was clear that it was still Operation Storm in 1995, as a result of which the republic of Serbian Krajina ceased to exist.

And if I’m right, not only Domagoj Vida was thinking about the war, but also all the remaining players of the Croatian national team, but the most important thing is that contact with them was the most vivid impression of this state, but not the only one.

I still have six months to sort out these impressions, but for now I put them aside in the far corner of my mind, except for a very clear and very sudden realization that in connection with the possible cooperation of Michael Cohen with the New York “prosecutors”, Trump, in agreement with Kim Jong-un, gave Mike Pompeo instructions to temporarily fail negotiations with North Korea in order to refuse to answer the questions of Heinrich Müller, the chief of the Gestapo, USA division, under this pretext.

I rise in the middle of the second half from the bar to the room, and I find out that the negotiations have failed.

Never before has football brought such emotions in me and I hope will never bring it again.

Speculating and forecasting is a fool’s errand in this day and age. Anyone with any basic logic, who has also scanned some modern world history texts, knows that empires develop a lot of force and momentum and it takes time for them to disintegrate. Doesn’t seem very realistic to me that we will experience a Mad Max world in our lifetimes.

Although I have to say, the concept of being able to venture out in order to hit a gorgeous female over the head with my club and drag her by her long beautiful hair back to my cave, in order to have my way with her, sounds like a benefit to me of such a collapse period. Looking forward to it.

We appear to share certain fantasies. Although I’m more prone to a charm offensive than sheer blunt force trauma — grubs & grasshoppers by firelight for starters, followed by rabbit & squirrel stew, then the main course, freshly-poached & roasted bison sirloins, all washed down with Black Bushmills looted from the nearest liquor store.

Plus, don’t think I’d want to be sharing those luscious bison steaks with anyone. (You made me hungry with the repast you laid out in your post.)

On the contrary, there are venues at this very minute that you can experience that which you reference…many dysfunctional cities in Africa, the Middle East…Detroit, Baltimore, Oakland. Why is it so difficult to understand the possibilities when the real-time examples are at hand?

The only difference between their experience and yours is the rule of law, a modicum of wealth, and perhaps…distance.

    “Pope is Dead” 100th

    Sounds something like Schrodinger’s Pope.

But here is where Jim is great, from “The Geography of Nowhere”:

“Eighty percent of everything ever built in America has been built in the last 50 years, and most of it is depressing, brutal, ugly, unhealthy and spiritually degrading: the jive-plastic commuter tract home wastelands, the Potemkin village shopping plazas with their vast parking lagoons, the Lego-block hotel complexes, the ‘gourmet mansardic’ junk food joints, the Orwellian office ‘parks’ featuring buildings sheathed in the same reflective glass as the sunglasses worn by chain gang guards, the particle-board garden apartments rising up in every meadow and cornfield, the freeway loops around every big and little city with their clusters of discount merchandise marts, the whole destructive, wasteful, toxic, agoraphobia-inducing spectacle that politicians proudly call ‘growth.'”

Yes, in a review of the same book in 1993, Michiko Kakutani says “Mr. Kunstler has a taste for hyperbole that makes for lively reading, but that also makes for some dubious generalizations”.

Government figures say that about 215,000 jobs were created last month here in 2018. In the not too distant future will that number be 500,000, a million? One can see the absurd lack of vision that Jim continues to point out, but apparently to no effect.

Jobs, jobs and more jobs. Grow the economy, grow the population, that’s the politician’s deadly palaver.

“I see the bad moon rising, I see trouble on the way”.

I’m 66 and in excellent health (due to much money and time invested into “anti-aging” protocols) and plan on easily living another 35-40 years. I don’t expect any disastrous, social or economic disruption during the rest of my lifetime. My wife and I make our own economy (continue to generate income and build reserves and assets) and we will do just fine and have happy fulfilling lives.

Nothing can be done about a nuclear world war or any “acts of God” so no sense in thinking about those.

The ultimate wealth is clean water, food and a roof over one’s head. If the future was ever threatened by dark forces–or the stupid mistakes of humanity–we could always shift gears and convert our existing wealth into the ultimate wealth cited above.

No worries, no anxieties. You don’t need the stress (bad for your health and longevity). Be insouciant. Have a “devil may care” attitude and live an industrious and creative life. And have fun and enjoy this miracle known as life. Make the best of it. (Down with DOOM & GLOOM.)

RB: What do you know, from all the written economic history we have available to us, to be a better system that garners progress, industry and wealth? Some form of Collectivism? (Ha, that’s a joke.)

Pure, uninhibited or undiluted Free Market Capitalism (without any corruption) is the best way to go my friend. And is worth shooting for.

One researches and finds a need or demand… one becomes industrious and organized in order to satisfy that need/demand… one starts to build and store wealth… one has less economic pressures (thus more time to think, plan and strategize as well as assist others)… one purchases assets and launches projects to build further wealth (which creates jobs and wealth for other individuals)… now one can contribute to/assist/help his community and fellow man on a larger scale… and on we go.

What’s wrong with this? It’s only when man’s immorality and negative emotions (greed, hatred, domination, etc.) kick into the cycle that it goes wrong. These cited points are the enemy. NOT Capitalism.

      • Janos Skorenzy July 9, 2018 at 5:50 pm #

Profit before all else is Capitalism and is the essence of immorality. And it quickly comes to that because if you don’t do something (like hiring illegals, or cutting corners, or dumping waste, etc), the other guy will and you are screwed. Thus it’s a race to the bottom, the “war of all against all”. How can anyone not see that?

      • Dumbedup July 13, 2018 at 11:03 am #

This is not correct. Unfettered and unlimited capitalism results in child labor, poor health conditions, environmental hazards, excessive speculation, aggregation of wealth and power in fewer hands, monopolistic and anti-competitive behavior, and ultimately fascist government controlled by moneyed interests. (where we are heading now)

Regulated capitalism (the system we have operated under for most of the 20th century) and a political and judicial system with the will to regulate corruption and enforce individual rights over corporate rights, is a superior system. What has happened is that people have lost critical thinking skills. It has been removed from the curriculum of schools. So when these low information and low thinking types are told that any effort to regulate markets and industry is socialism they believe it.

        Enter Donald Trump.

Food security. Zeal for effort and advancement. An “honest” vote. Mr. Maduro got the palace. The average Venezuelan, or Cuban, got the big old shaft.

Both isms suck at some level. But either one depends on which side of the economic well being curve you are. Someone gets fucked.

I agree with your assessment. If capitalism was perfect then we wouldn’t have to attenuate it with socialist policies.

The way I look at it is: we should encourage market economies wherever we can, wherever they work. And for things that we’re either unwilling or unable to leave to chance, we plan it and regulate it.

          • RB July 9, 2018 at 9:25 pm #

This may sound like a trivial matter, but in an episode of the TV series “Once Upon a Time” the Robin Hood character tells a child, “When you steal for yourself, you’re a thief, but when you steal for others, you’re a hero”

I was stunned when I heard such a vile, socialist “moral value” so blatantly publicized by those globalists at the Disney Corporation. This is what they’re teaching our children. 34. FincaInTheMountains July 9, 2018 at 4:05 pm #

What do you know, from all the written economic history we have available to us, to be a better system that garners progress, industry and wealth?

Former Presidential Chief Strategist Steve Bannon outlined his concept of “economic nationalism” that reminded us of President Theodore Roosevelt who tried to “save capitalism from itself”, known as the “Square deal”, part of which was the development of antitrust laws and the division of John Rockefeller’s empire into four equal parts. Then there was New Deal of his nephew Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the “Fair deal” of Harry Truman, which nullified the achievements of the two Roosevelts, laying the foundations of Clintonism.

The Roosevelts fought the “general crisis of capitalism,” and Wilson and the Clintons destroyed their attainments in the hope that another accounting trick like what John Maynard Keynes invented would allow the abolition of objective laws of nature discovered by many scientists but compiled into a single system by Karl Marx.

In theory, Marxism was the apex of the Western scientific method, which showed that capitalism is not an economic, but a religious system, the direct result of the “Protestant revolution”, begun in the first half of the 16th century by Calvin and Luther. Moreover, the first state that declared Protestantism to be the state religion was the so-called region of the Catholic Teutonic Order, located on the lands of the Orthodox Slavs who were exterminated – the Prussians.

In fact, it is this paradox of the Catholic order that destroyed God knows how many millions of people in the name of the world authority of the Pope, but after the failure of the anti-Christian crusades became the main anti-Catholic force in Europe, is the key to understanding the role of American Colonel House. The source of power of Colonel House remains a dark matter, but he acted on the basis of the ideas of 150 American intellectuals gathered by this mysterious force in a group called “The Inquiry”, now known as Council on Foreign Relations.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_M._House

    https://www.amazon.com/Continuing-Inquiry-Council-Foreign-Relations/dp/0876091923

But 150 intellectuals gathered in one group are something poorly manageable, a source of frenzied envy and chaos of intrigue, and inside this matryoshka-doll was another doll, which after the failure of the mission of Leon Trotsky, sent by them to Russia, but first ceded to Vladimir Lenin, and then to Joseph Stalin, turned into the so-called Council on Foreign Relations, led by David Rockefeller which led the United States to victory in the Cold War and Hillary Clinton to the White House, bringing to completion the aforementioned mission of Leon Trotsky after a catastrophic failure in October 1917 to collapse of the empires of the Old World, which has developed this matryoshka even before it became part of “The Inquiry “.

By the way, the Anglican Church is not Protestant at least because of its apostolic succession, and it’s no wonder that another doll inside “The Inquiry” helped Trump win the elections in 2016, and in 1914 “helped” the successor of the Grand Masters of the Teutonic Order to German Emperor Wilhelm II to unleash the First World War and to destroy the creation of Bismarck, thus avenging for treachery to the Order of the Hospitallers of the first great master of the Teutonic Order, Henry Walpot von Bassenheim.

Capitalism a religion? Oh, please. Nonsense.
All the Collectivist-based advocates had/have zero knowledge of the makeup of the human spirit, human mind and human behaviour. Thus, they all failed–and caused untold destruction in the course of their demise and loss of every molecule of credibility.

That this even needs to be discussed or debated shows how clueless and in the dark man remains.

Man evolves, grows, thrives and prospers when he is unfettered, has incentive, a future, unblocked ability to create, can be self-sufficient, has protection from corruption and crime, etc. Collectivism is a total retardant and destroyer of the great qualities and attributes of humanity.

All truths are basically simple. If not, they are false or altered.
Complexity is a tactic used by those who want to obfuscate, confuse and control. A stock in trade for TPTB throughout history.

I’m a lay-person: not a historian, economist, politician, philosopher, etc. The system I’m describing? I don’t know, don’t know if there is a name for it (might be). Consider it a more evolved or sophisticated version of Capitalism? What Capitalism was intended to be?

Whatever it is called it MUST MUST MUST be based upon the laws, axioms, principles, truths or whatever of human behaviour. Man thrives in a fertile and open environment.

That is a no-brainer, right Fincain?

The idea that economy is based on a system of objective “scientific” laws, completely independent of human morality and spirituality, failed to pass the history tests.

        • amb July 9, 2018 at 5:33 pm #

Economics was originally “psychology” based, a study of human behaviour. It wasn’t based on math and “science”, statistics, formulas, etc. Simple study of supply, demand, behaviour, habits, responses, etc. In my opinion, when it moved away from the study of the human being it went off the rails.

What I cited above has never been implemented; at least within the written history that we have. Maybe in past civilizations that are out of our knowledge.

I posit: if some technology or mechanism ain’t based on and doesn’t parallel or align with the human spirit, the human mind, human behaviour… it ain’t gonna work.

“Feudal society in Europe appears to have arisen as the result of a number of conditions which existed following the dissolution of the Roman Empire. It was based on a system by which rulers of warrior castes became strong enough to demand and extract fealty from warriors. There arose, generally, an administrative center, usually a castle, and around these were agricultural people who were usually protected from outside aggression by their “lord,” the sovereign of the manor. It appears likely that new technologies arose which created economies which made the feudal society both possible and perhaps even inevitable in Europe.

The feudal lord often held dictatorial power over his “subjects,” especially the peasants. Military protection was necessary because of the continuous state of “feuding,” among the various lords. The “peaceful people,” or peasants, were caught in the middle. The land, and everything on it, including the animals, plants, and people, was under the domination or dominion of the feudal “lord.” This lord demanded loyalty and a part of the peasant’s crops as well as some of his/her labor. Feudalism could be far more brutal and humiliating than is outlined in many histories. Some feudal lords exercised what was called “the right of the first night,” a custom which referred to the right of a lord to the peasant’s bride.

Prior to the rise of feudalism, it is fair to state that most of the agricultural people of Europe were local tribesmen of various kinds. Feudalism imposed the concept of sovereign, dictatorial rules whose rule was imposed by military might, and gave rise to the true European peasantry.

The crystallization of centralized executive power serves to separate civilized societies from primitive societies. It is immaterial whether such controls are located in a feudal castle or in the executive offices of the capitals of nation states. The appearance of the hierarchical state marks the transition of food cultivators in general to the more specific definition contained in the concepts of peasantry. When the cultivator becomes dependent upon and integrated in a society in which he is subject to demands of people who are defined by a class other than his own, he becomes appropriately termed a peasant.”

        Feudalism calling itself as Capitalism.

    James,

I’m sorry I just can’t believe in any collapse narrative anymore. Not since I discovered the Mandela effect. We live in strange times to be sure, merging realities, changing timelines. I was always worried about the Arctic ocean melting, but if they can move South America one thousand kilometers East, and move Australia four hundred kilometers north without any climatic effects, there really is no issue.

Consider this one video. Major mega projects have been completed that no one is aware of, and with no consequences:

    https://youtu.be/BUsdiQD69ss?t=1m50s

With the next Mandela shift we could suddenly find ourselves with a hundred Ghawar oil fields in pristine condition. Forget peak oil. Not to mention that they moved the Earth 80,000 light years to orbit a different star with no apparent ill effects?

The only thing people need to study is the Mandela effect. It is the singular, only real concern of our times. (Don’t believe me- check it out yourself, you will be amazed and astonished)

I have used these “bible” search engines and they are useless.

You can have the book in your hand reading it and search for a phrase you just read and they will miss it.

And the lyrics of Diamond Girl have changed! When? This song I sang back in my ‘62 convertible Nova for all of ‘73:

        “Diamond Girl – roamin’ wild
Such a rare thing – radiant child
I could never find another one like you
Janet, part of me is deep down inside you”

The grave of the little girl Ebba Åkerlund has been vandalised, Fria Tider reports. The 11-year-old child died in Stockholm’s terror attack, which was committed by Rakhmat Akilov, a 39-year-old rejected asylum seeker. She was one of the five victims of the truck terror attack in April last year.

It seems the little girl cannot rest in peace as some sick person is vandalising her grave at Adolf Fredriks Cemetery in Stockholm. It’s the second time this has happened.

“In addition to the stolen birds on the tombstone, flowers are broken, lanterns crushed and everything delicate classmates and other mourners laid by the grave are thrown away. Why?”, Writes Ebba’s memorial fund Instagram.

People who replied to the post are very upset about the heartless behavior:

“A child’s burial place, how can you sleep at night after doing this wicked action (…) May God protect fine Ebba in heaven,” one writes.

“How can anyone do that ?! Fy so terrible,” another says.

On 7 June 2018, Islamic terrorist Rakhmat Akilov was sentenced to life in prison. He was found guilty of terrorist crimes in five murders, attempted terrorist crimes in 119 counts of attempted murder and 24 counts of endangering others.

Yes, why would anyone vandalize her grave? It seems such strange behavior among the law-abiding Swedes.

      Pucker,
He’s a perfect reflection of the loutish, clownish, incurious, aggressive, jingoistic, inarticulate, teevee reinforced and incurious “culture” of present-day America. People without critical thinking skills who believe in moronic fairy tales and think-tank propaganda will install the leadership that makes them the most comfortable and confirms their bias. Thus, there is little challenge for/to those who steer, spy and misinform. The populace is “acting out” their feelings in what resembles the emotional stunting of helpless children.

There is nothing to “wonder” about here. We’re steadily heading toward the complete feudal society our masters have always desired. Keep that hate spigot turned on full stream so we can get there faster; it’s an excellent goad. No one appears to see the devolution, so only the mystery of the empty belly is going to sound a wake-up call for a nation of ignorant slaves and true believers. It shouldn’t be hard to make them “work for food” at that point. Timeline? A slow grinding down, then all at once (to paraphrase many paraphrasers).

    The Female of the Species
    Rudyard Kipling
    1911

1 When the Himalayan peasant meets the he-bear in his pride,
2 He shouts to scare the monster, who will often turn aside.
3 But the she-bear thus accosted rends the peasant tooth and nail.
4 For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

5 When Nag the basking cobra hears the careless foot of man,
6 He will sometimes wriggle sideways and avoid it if he can.
7 But his mate makes no such motion where she camps beside the trail.
8 For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

9 When the early Jesuit fathers preached to Hurons and Choctaws,
10 They prayed to be delivered from the vengeance of the squaws.
11 ‘Twas the women, not the warriors, turned those stark enthusiasts pale.
12 For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

13 Man’s timid heart is bursting with the things he must not say,
    14 For the Woman that God gave him isn’t his to give away;
15 But when hunter meets with husbands, each confirms the other’s tale –
16 The female of the species is more deadly than the male.

17 Man, a bear in most relations – worm and savage otherwise, –
18 Man propounds negotiations, Man accepts the compromise.
19 Very rarely will he squarely push the logic of a fact
20 To its ultimate conclusion in unmitigated act.

21 Fear, or foolishness, impels him, ere he lay the wicked low,
22 To concede some form of trial even to his fiercest foe.
23 Mirth obscene diverts his anger — Doubt and Pity oft perplex
24 Him in dealing with an issue – to the scandal of The Sex!

25 But the Woman that God gave him, every fibre of her frame
26 Proves her launched for one sole issue, armed and engined for the same,
27 And to serve that single issue, lest the generations fail,
28 The female of the species must be deadlier than the male.

29 She who faces Death by torture for each life beneath her breast
30 May not deal in doubt or pity – must not swerve for fact or jest.
31 These be purely male diversions – not in these her honour dwells.
32 She the Other Law we live by, is that Law and nothing else.

33 She can bring no more to living than the powers that make her great
34 As the Mother of the Infant and the Mistress of the Mate.
35 And when Babe and Man are lacking and she strides unchained to claim
36 Her right as femme (and baron), her equipment is the same.

    37 She is wedded to convictions – in default of grosser ties;
38 Her contentions are her children, Heaven help him who denies! –
39 He will meet no suave discussion, but the instant, white-hot, wild,
40 Wakened female of the species warring as for spouse and child.

41 Unprovoked and awful charges – even so the she-bear fights,
42 Speech that drips, corrodes, and poisons – even so the cobra bites,
43 Scientific vivisection of one nerve till it is raw
44 And the victim writhes in anguish – like the Jesuit with the squaw!

45 So it cames that Man, the coward, when he gathers to confer
46 With his fellow-braves in council, dare not leave a place for her
47 Where, at war with Life and Conscience, he uplifts his erring hands
48 To some God of Abstract Justice – which no woman understands.

49 And Man knows it! Knows, moreover, that the Woman that God gave him
50 Must command but may not govern – shall enthral but not enslave him.
51 And She knows, because She warns him, and Her instincts never fail,
52 That the Female of Her Species is more deadly than the Male.

Yes Rudy, you are right. Women can have no place in politics. Even their talk of peace is savage in the extreme and their methods are not for the faint of heart. And the maternal instincts? They yearn to crush Muslim children to their breasts even if the brown cheeks of the children are more bristle than down and the children are over 200 pounds. But since they attend high school they must be children. The State wouldn’t lie, would it? Thus is the “reasoning” of the feminine mind.

This is starting to remind me of the pervasive gov mafia corruption depicted in the Oliver Stone 2012 crime thriller “Savages”. According to Bill Still, agents from the DEA and ATF were involved in the murder of Seth Rich, and possibly another gov mafia agent by the name of Kevin Doherty. These gov mafia agents obviously were given orders and money for the job. I suggest investigators follow the money (all the way to Killary).

The woman Barrett is so my kind of religious nut, involved in an evangelical cult despite being Catholic. Worse – she adopted two Haitian kids while being pregnant with her own child. Who does something like that? Was she guilty about bringing a White child into the world? How can she give her baby the constant attention it needs with two new kids in the house? Or give those two what they need when she has a new baby? Or give any of them and her husband (oh him) what they need when she’s a high level career woman?

” It is usually wrong, and sometimes destructive, to be dismissive of your opponents.

    Correct !

Folks on both the left and the right , for example , ridicule Trump’s Tweeting.

But Trump’s Tweets can be likened to a press conference where HE gets to do the editing.

In contrast , the conventional press conference , the conventional interview with a reporter ,

    is basically like the conventional police interview ;

You’re a fucking idiot if you think it’s a level playing field , you’re a fucking idiot if you think you will not be misquoted , not taken out of context , that your narrative won’t be cheery -picked by the other .

It’s interesting that millions of people don’t recognize either obvious circumstance.

    But Trump did.

    By the way —

I wish you would write more often. On the rare occasions when you do , you have written some of the best things I have ever read.

” The State wouldn’t lie, would it? Thus is the “reasoning” of the feminine mind. ”

I guess the modern world then must be primarily a feminine mind ,

because the most extreme religious nuts I know of are atheists , agnostics , and fanboys of the secular state.

The claims they make , make head-hunting cannibal animists sound reasonable and sharp.

    “When Collapse Goes Kinetic”

One might say that the Potential Energy for collapse is increasing with tax cuts and tariffs, along with increased spending and borrowing on the economic front, and things like the appointment of Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, the fiery, angry rhetoric of Maxine Waters and other Dems, and the ever increasing levels of intolerance in general on the political front.

Our basic physics tells us that kinetic energy is equal to 1/2 times the mass times the velocity squared (k = 1/2mv^2). But in this case I think that some new formulas need to be considered because of the different nature of the Potential Energy conversion to Kinetic.

Now these formulas may be imprecise, but they should convey a general sense of the prevailing mayhem:

    k = 1/2 x mutilations x violence squared
    k = 1/2 x masochism x violence squared
    k = 1/2 x militarism x violence squared
    k = 1/2 x munitions x violence squared, etc., etc., etc.

The keen of eye may have noticed that we always have violence squared. Remember your Robinson Jeffers and “The Bloody Sire”.

Violence is based on numbers like how many are going to the morgue, which certainly would include those decapitated, the number in intensive care, the number critical, etc., etc.

Of course with mutilations there is overlap, so violence can actually wind up being cubed and more.

Well, anyway, it’s just a thought. Have a nice day.

There’s a fair number of readers that say that JHK is continuously wrong in his prognostications. Well, maybe in some particulars he is, but in his overall theme of collapse he’s dead right.

The problem I think has three main elements. The first is one of perspective. If you weren’t around to see the good times – and I’ll quote JHK here from his post “A Turn For The Worse”,

“You can’t overstate how fortunate this country was after the Second World War. The mid-twentieth century was the apex of American industrial wealth. We produced real goods and lived in extraordinary comfort.”, then you can’t know the steepness of the fall to where we are today. You simply cannot see the contrast.

The second problem is one of “landscape amnesia”.People “forget”, deliberately or otherwise, how things were in the past.

The third problem is one of not giving a shit. If other people’s circumstances are in collapse mode, well, that too bad for them. If I’m all right then everything’s A-OK.

On Sunday, Trump’s chief lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, explained in detail why the break in negotiations with North Korea is absolutely necessary for Trump to repel the latest and possibly last attack of Hillary Clinton.

And today Trump, who recently transferred the US embassy to Jerusalem in order to signify his support of Israel with the capital in Jerusalem, nominated for the post in the US Supreme Court Brett Kavanaugh, and negative responses to this nomination came from all kinds of Jewish groups almost before they came from Clinton’s Democrats.

    https://www.timesofisrael.com/jewish-groups-concerned-over-trumps-supreme-court-pick-kavanaugh/

Meanwhile, Brett Kavanaugh was a student of Alex Kozinsky from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, well known in the US for its Jewish background. It was Alex Kozinski who actually launched the career of his assistant Brett Kavanaugh, recommending him to the commission that investigated President Bill Clinton and his wife, and in the US hardly anyone doubts that it was this that led him to the entrance to the US Supreme Court.

And New York City still remembers how in the 1944-1945s, the Brooklyn Jews were shooting at the Manhattan Jews because of the argument where Israel should be created – in Crimea or in Israel?

Later I will try to explain how it is all connected to Trump’s nomination and to Western Colored Projects in Israel. (of course they are present there!)

Mrs. May’s government is having some collapse problems of it’s own at the moment. Perhahps Messrs. Davis and Johnson will find the elusive canister of Novochok and pull everyone’s knickers out of the fire. As Mr. Johnson commented about Mrs. Mays latest proposal, “an absolute stinker”, “Luckily, we have some expert turd-polishers in this government..”

Well in the World Cup of Turd Polishing I’ll bet on our team without fail.

    • GreenAlba July 10, 2018 at 2:48 pm #

“Mrs. May’s government is having some collapse problems of it’s own at the moment. ”

Good. About time we had a Labour government and some adults in the room. This lot have been fighting among themselves for 40 years and are unfit to govern.

Then when Jeremy’s in, Trump will refuse to do a trade deal with the ‘commies’ across the pond. Fun times.

Mr Johnson is indeed an absolute stinker. He’s been sacked twice for lying, and is a turd well beyond polishing. (Ask his wife.) But I think ‘conservative’ Americans don’t have a problem with that as a ‘thing’.

It’s OK to be a serial liar as long as you’re OUR serial liar.

Interesting that both Davis and Johnson were at the Chequers meeting where the proposal was AGREED on. But neither of them walked out at that time. One has to have a good think about what’s best for one’s future career, n’est-ce-pas? And who, like maybe the Minister for the 18th Century, might want to bend your ear, and make threats and promises.

Ah the sweet smell of a Tory government.

Sorry, the Honourable Member for the 18th Century. Rees-Mogg isn’t even up to governmental duties, just whingeing endlessly and trying to destroy the rights of British workers and British citizens.

        >>> But I think ‘conservative’ Americans don’t have a problem with that as a ‘thing’.

The fact that some Americans can look past character flaws and focus on policy decisions is actually an advantage. Let’s be honest: both the USA and UK have had leaders that said all the right things, and did all the right things in their private lives, but nonetheless made horrendous policy decisions. So there doesn’t appear to be as much correlation between good character and good policy as many would have us believe. And too many focus on character to the complete detriment of policy.

Sadly Boris doesn’t have anything to recommend him on either count. There’s nothing Boris wouldn’t do for personal advantage.

He famously wrote two articles for the Telegraph – one pro-Brexit and the other against, and decided at the last minute which one to publish and which way to go to further his career (aka getting to be PM).

And the lies that he was sacked for were in his professional life – nothing to do with his affairs and his secret ‘love-child’.

And now he’s got that £350m for the NHS on the side of a bus to be remembered for forever. Not that he cares. The Telegraph pays him more than his ministerial post did. And he has plenty of other earners on the side.

But at least he’s gone for now, thank God.

Red Meat for all you Conspiracy Fans, especially of the Jesuit variety. Liberal Lutheran Pastor and anti-War activist “found” himself at Bohemian Grove one summer many decades ago. There he met Ed Meese the 3rd. Big Ed encouraged him to get involved his folks, so:

This is not to suggest that Fr. Richard Neuhaus engaged in any of these activities. However, it is weird that Fr. Neuhaus would be promoted by the Republican Party immediately after this meeting. It is further weird that Neuhaus would become a Catholic in 1990 and then a Catholic priest one year after his baptism after being given a crash course in theology by Avery Dulles, SJ, whose father, John Foster Dulles, and uncle, Allen Dulles, were the founders of American Intelligence—Allen, of course, was the father of the Central Intelligence Agency.

See the rest at remnant newspaper dot com. I don’t focus on it, but the Novus Ordo Catholics did became big players in the NeoCon Movement. Alas. Is Kavanaugh of this ilk? Since he was a big Bushie, yeah probably, though at least he stayed conservative with a small c. Some of them lose even the small c and support abortion, open borders, etc.

The CFN citizen known as ‘Green Alba’ doesn’t live in Merry Olde England and isn’t Merrily Olde English, so probably not. If she were she’d have to call herself ‘Green Anglia’ or some such.

I believe His Golden Greatness may be dropping by either one or both of his Scottish golf courses, though, but ‘Green Alba’ isn’t into that kind of ‘green’ either. She likes it rougher, so to speak, and less manicured. So again, désolée and all that… I’ll probably be washing my hair. I expect someone will be washing his too.

But I’m sure Nigel will be desperate to do a bit of brown-nosing. In an entirely private capacity, of course, since he has no political duties these days. Not that he fulfilled them when he was paid for them either, although he’s got a fat EU pension coming for the rest of his natural, which the British people will have to pay for. Ah, the irony.

If he drops by, though, he’s welcome to a cuppa and a scone. Not Nigel. We may be hospitable, but there are limits.

Mrs Green, I have to really question your position. You do understand how centralization works? Centralization, any kind of a centralization scheme, by design funnels wealth from the periphery to the center. Where do you imagine your GreenAlba is in relation to Britain, let alone in relation to Europe? Who do you imagine is at the center of the Europe and the EU?

        • GreenAlba July 10, 2018 at 7:07 pm #

Are you suggesting that I should have voted for Scottish independence in 2014, even though Scotland would have almost zero chance of surviving on its own?

Should I prefer the UK becoming a vassal state of the US to being a more-than-equal member of the EU, with extra perks that other members don’t have? I’m European. I live in a small country that’s on the long, slow downside of empire. I do not share the delusions of British importance that many of the Brexiters have.

On top of which, as I’ve said before, I view trade with my near neighbours to be a far more sensible strategy than trying to build trading relationships with third countries on the other side of the world, at a time when transport resources are going to be constrained and there’s a need to limit CO2 emissions.

And for all the talk about EU internal migrants, do you think India, for instance, is going to sign a trade deal with the UK without insisting on a large number of extra residential visas for its people?

The Brexiters are living in cloud cuckoo land. Although not as many of them as two years ago.

          • JohnAZ July 10, 2018 at 8:31 pm #

One comment. It appears that the EU is comprised of two forms of economy, one typified by Germany, industrial manufacturing, and service sector ares such as the Mediterranean countries. I would suppose that the former areas are getting tired of bailing out the latter.

GA, which type of economy do you consider U.K. To be and do you think that is why Brexit passed? You are watching the US having the same sort of identity problems now. The great American experiment is failing because of the divide and conquer tactics of our Deep State. Could be the great European experiment is failing for the same reasons. And letting in millions of immigrants sure does not help.

          • akmofo July 10, 2018 at 9:50 pm #

You’re on the wrong side of history, Mrs Green. There will be no EU. Germany’s scam is becoming apparent to all. Best to start looking to Africa, India, China, Russia, the Americas.

I realise that you are away with the fairies when it comes to facts and actual history, but you forget I actually lived through the times you mention, when you suppose the UK economy peaked. Here’s a graph of the REAL trajectory of the British economy since joining the Common Market/EU. It’s from the Institute for New Economic Thinking at the University of Oxford, not the ‘MSM’:

            https://www.inet.ox.ac.uk/news/Brexit

I realise that in your world, up can mean down and everything that doesn’t fit your world view is government mafia propaganda, but nevertheless this is the way it is and has been.

Joining the Common Market saved the British economy (why on earth do you think they joined?). In the 70s. the UK economy was a basket case, with industrial strikes every five minutes, rubbish not being cleared from the streets when council workers were ‘out’ and, in one case I recall, bodies lined up waiting to be buried for the same reason.

Sadly, Margaret Thatcher presided over the destruction of much of the industrial sector, with great glee. It was she who ushered in the service economy we now have, although many of the manufacturing industries that are left are doing well, thanks to seamless trade with the EU, since components can go back and forward across borders without hassle or paperwork. This is obviously going to change.

Now, I realise that ALL of this is going to change as our economies power down, but for the moment it is the case that the UK economy is still on its feet to a large extent thanks to the benefits of EU membership.

I still recall the 3-day week, when power cuts meant businesses could only open for three days. When you went into a shop you couldn’t see what you were buying – I recall taking a pair of trousers to the door to see the colour in the daylight, while they watched me suspiciously in case I was going to run off with them. You have no idea. I still have a paraffin lamp which I bought at that time, which we used when the power was off.

“You’re on the wrong side of history, Mrs Green. There will be no EU. Germany’s scam is becoming apparent to all. Best to start looking to Africa, India, China, Russia, the Americas.”

I find it telling that, like the Brexiters, you think the UK trading with countries on the other side of the world makes sense just as our energy resources are shrinking. I can’t argue with that level of unrealistic nonsense, and needless to say, such real issues weren’t mentioned at all during the ‘debate’.

If ‘there will be no EU’, that’s fine by me. I don’t worship it and I certainly have no admiration for the clique who run it. I just know that it makes no economic sense for the UK to be OUT of it while it still exists. There may be no United States either – these are different issues.

And we’re all on the wrong side of history. That’s why most of us are on this website.

“Britain loses EVERY trade argument in the EU Court”

If and when the UK signs a trade agreement with the US, which is the holy grail of Brexit dreams, how do you think that’s going to pan out for the UK, with ‘America First’?

Even without the current ‘administration’, any trade deal will inevitably include the proviso that American businesses will be able to sue the UK in secret corporate courts if its supposedly sovereign parliament has the temerity to pass laws that might – just might – affect the bottom line of said American companies. This might involve food safety legislation, environmental safety legislation, health regulations etc. And standards are lower in the US than in the EU.

These trade agreements will be negotiated in secret. I’ve signed a couple of petitions to demand that they aren’t done in secret and that Parliament will have input, but in the state of desperation that the UK is going to find itself in, I don’t have much faith in that happening.

In any trade dispute between the US and the UK, who would you put your money on? Me too.

The UK “economy” is the basically the City of London that Mountain Finc often speaks of. The “economy” is a paper fraud consisting of extreme foreign speculation in British real estate projects.

That foreign capital flow will one day move the other way and GreenAlba will realize there is no there there. Like I said, my advice is to look elsewhere. Start now and build bilateral relations with India China Russia Africa Latin America, etc. Get out of your EU ghetto.

            JohnAZ

The UK is a service economy. Services are 80% of its GDP, which is almost exactly the same as in the US:

            https://www.statista.com/statistics/270001/distribution-of-gross-domestic-product-gdp-across-economic-sectors-in-the-us/

(More narrowly, the financial services sector is responsible for 6.5% of economic output, 50% of that happening in London, which skews everything, socially and economically).

Similarly, the US industrial sector is about 20.5%, compared to the UK’s 19.2% – less but not that much less.

Manufacturing, however, makes up 44% of our exports – and
43% of those exports go to the EU.

            https://fullfact.org/europe/uk-eu-trade/

            http://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/SN06193

Now, the argument from e.g. akmofo is that the UK should trade with the up-and-coming countries outside the EU, because the EU’s share of global trade is declining (it is), but who do you reckon would benefit more from that trade, the UK or those economies?

Like yourselves, our problem is that we import more than we export, and probably for many of the same reasons. If we’re going to export more to the Chinese and the Indians, we’re going to have to accept something nearer Chinese and Indian wages. You can do your own thing if you like, but you can’t expect anyone else to buy your stuff if it costs more to make. And we have a heck of a debt to pay off, like yourselves. Well, ‘service’, I should say, since it will never be paid off.

I wouldn’t care that much if the EU disbanded itself tomorrow, although I do like being an EU citizen (and intend to get an Irish passport via my Northern Irish granddad whom I never met!) We’d sign trade deals with one another – eventually – and get on somehow, but less efficiently. But while it’s there, it makes no sense for the UK not to be part of it.

And, being part of the only-just-postwar generation, my inherited memory of the war, which had a huge impact on me growing up and hasn’t disappeared with time, I don’t underestimate the importance of *institutionalised* European co-operation. I take very little in life for granted – not oil; not peace.

I tend to agree (without claiming any expertise) with those who would prefer some sort of two-tier EU, so those countries who want ‘more EU’ and those who’d prefer just more ‘common market’ could sort themselves out as they’d prefer and would each benefit accordingly. But that’s not what’s on offer at the moment.

This is already too long to broach immigration – I did start but have deleted it as it was too much! However, the notion that the UK is going to be able to strike trade deals with India, China, Brazil, the Philippines or wherever without their governments insisting on extra visas for their citizens to come here is utterly fanciful. The Indian PM already made that clear to Theresa May some time ago, I believe.

Currently we’ve had to take in a whole lot more Indian doctors because EU citizens no longer feel welcome here and are obviously happier to work in another EU country. It’s fine to say we should train more of our own doctors, but it takes 10 years to train a doctor and the vacancies are overwhelming NOW. As anyone with half a brain could have predicted, those vacancies will have to be filled from outside the EU, so Indian doctors instead of German or French ones, which is not what I imagine the Brexiteers had in mind.

“The UK “economy” is the basically the City of London that Mountain Finc often speaks of. The “economy” is a paper fraud consisting of extreme foreign speculation in British real estate projects.”

Well, Finca should know – London is full of Russian oligarchs living in swanky Mayfair piles (or just keeping them empty) and dirty Russian money being laundered through The City.

Although the current narrative outside London is apparently that Russia is now governed by boy scouts, keeps no secrets and tells no lies, so maybe those Russian oligarchs and their dodgy money are a figment of our collective imagination. I wouldn’t know.

Anyway, the financial services sector is 6.5% of the economy, so let’s not get carried away.

While that and the trade in weapons (much of it with the vile House of Saud) is still way more than I’d like, you can’t dump one type of economic activity until you’ve developed another to replace it. And you have to be realistic about what activity you can develop.

As I mentioned, 44% of our exports are manufactured goods or components, so there is a bit more to the economy than paper fraud, although I’d obviously prefer to have a lot less (or rather none) of the paper fraud. And services aren’t just financial services.

“That foreign capital flow will one day move the other way and GreenAlba will realize there is no there there.”

Fine by me, as long as it’s gradual and not a sudden Brexit flip.

“Like I said, my advice is to look elsewhere. Start now and build bilateral relations with India China Russia Africa Latin America, etc.”

Hmmmm… because the Chinese economy (just for starters) is built upon a rock, isn’t it?

Germany already sells more stuff to China than the UK does and the EU is signing trade deals that will put it well ahead of the UK. Nothing is stopping the UK trading with these countries already. It doesn’t have to leave the EU to do that.

It just makes sense to trade more with your near neighbours if that trade is in anything ‘solid’. If you don’t agree with my assumptions about future energy constraints, that’s a different matter.

            O ye, of little faith,

for starts you can teach the Chinese and others how to build real buildings and real cities:

            https://youtu.be/ZVliwXBSZ8A

Versus the garbage they build now:

            https://youtu.be/XopSDJq6w8E

You can teach them in your universities and colleges, set up joint ventures and companies. Later you can leverage that cheap skilled labor into building projects at home instead of importing useless Arabs to sit on the dole and breed a hostile Jihadist population at your expense and peril.

There are many engineering advantages in Scotland and Scots enjoy a very lofty reputation and history. This can be leveraged to great benefit of the Scottish people.

It only took 37% of an ill educated electorate to vote through a major constitutional measure that’s going to be the biggest change since the war. NO other country would let that happen.

The day after the vote, one of the most frequent UK-generated searches on Google was ‘what is the EU?’. The day AFTER the vote.

You’d have hoped the Brexit leaders knew what they were doing, instead of making the country a laughing stock for the entire world.

All the animals on this planet are adapted to see in dim light. All except humans. This planet evolved under the dim light of the brown dwarf sun Saturn. Hence, the giant prehistoric vegetation and giant dinosaurs. These could not survive under today’s high gravity and low uv conditions. It’s only later that we were joined to our current sun. This is also probably the time when humans (and dolphins among possible others) arrived on this planet.

You can also see how the word story evolved from the Hebrew.

S-PH-R or S-F-R —> book, scribe or story teller
          to the English
          S-T-R —> story

Yeah, uh, sure, and despite an entirety different alphabet too.

Nevertheless, who doesn’t know that god really said let there be “more light” and the sun replaced dim ole Saturn?

And after he took a rib, or more likely a melanoma, out of Adam, he also reached in and grabbed a chunk of flesh off the ole appendix and made our cranially robust fish friends from that.

Also, one can clearly see there is a D I P and N in appendix. You can almost make the word DOLPHIN out of that, so you know, there’s that weight behind my theory.

The Latin alphabet is derived from the Greek which is derived from the ancient Hebrew.

As far as the TaNaKh account of our origin and our possible origins as a satellite of Saturn, there’s a lot of new science that corroborates and correlates both. Not only that but there are many extra-biblical “myths” which also start to make sense when viewed from this perspective.

The Spartans and Athenians were Greek, the Judeans and “Phoenicians” were Hebrews. The Phoenicians worshiped Ba’al, the Jews worshiped YeHeVeH. The TaNaKh documents that when King Solomon built the Temple, “Phoenician” masons greatly helped him in this task. Indeed the huge megalithic masonry of the Temple Mount (some stones weight an estimated 1200 tons) very much resembles that of the Temple in Ba’albek (Ba’al valley) in Lebanon. Recently David’s palace was excavated with its Phoenician columns.

            https://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/daily/biblical-sites-places/jerusalem/did-i-find-king-davids-palace/

The prophet Elijah in a famous encounter on mount Carmel removed the Ba’al worshiping priests from Israel. At that time Israel’s territory extended north to what today is Lebanon and Syria (Phoenicia). Ba’al worship was an ongoing problem in Israel and the TaNaKh extensively documented this. The worship of Ba’al by Israel persisted, and Israel and Judea ultimately separated. The TaNaKh attributes the worship of Ba’al to ancient Israel’s disappearance.

Mutiny Stormy Daniels style, a compilation of news and rumors

Giuliani said in an interview with FOX5 on Sunday that President Trump wants to answer any questions from Mueller, but he, Giuliani, as the head of his legal team, forbids it, since Mueller first has to prove that he really conducts an honest, impartial investigation of the crime, and not a search for a crime that can be attributed to Trump and throw him off his post, which is effectively an attempt at a coup.

And then he explained that the only crime that Trump can commit is perjury under oath, which he can be trapped into by unscrupulous prosecutors and investigators.

And most likely to drive him into the so-called “perjury trap” will be questions about porn star Stormy Daniels, whom he paid $100 for an agreement that forbids her to publish the book “How I fucked Donald Trump”, as the lawyer who concluded this agreement under Mueller’s torture of his wife and child apparently was forced to cooperate with the investigation.

By the way, today she advertised her book “How I fucked Donald Trump “, having arranged a striptease almost on the steps of the White House

    https://www.sfgate.com/news/politics/article/Wet-hot-Washington-Stormy-Daniels-strips-near-13061743.php?ipid=newsrecirc

“Let the Mueller SS go to Congress and ask them to submit Trump to impeachment on the basis of what they already have without Trump’s testimony,” Giuliani said. And since the Mueller SS can subpoena him, and if he refuses to answer, go to a court that has the right to force Trump to testify before a grand jury, the case will undoubtedly wind up in the US Supreme Court.

Therefore, the issue of impeachment or, more correctly, the success of the Mueller anti-state mutiny depends on the race against time, who will be able to implement his plan first: Mueller SS or Trump with Brett Kavanaugh.

Therefore, Trump needs to deny Mueller as long as possible an interview, not giving him a reason to hand over the subpoena and go to court. Now, for example, he can not answer Mueller’s questions because he needs to prepare for a meeting with Putin, and then he will not be able to answer the question because he will have to prepare for negotiations with Kim-Chen-un.

akmofo said, “This is also probably the time when humans (and dolphins among possible others) arrived on this planet.”

The other issue, which you approach tangentially is the size of the planet in earlier times.

Smaller planet means less gravity, therefore the flora and fauna grew to greater size. Likewise the clue of polar tilt being shared between Mars and Earth indicate a capture situation from the smaller brown dwarves we previously companioned with.

During the early elliptical orbit of Mars around Sol it would make a near pass by Earth every 54 years, until the last, which was an inner pass within the Roche Limit. This occasioned the snatching of gases and liquids from the smaller to the larger in a tremendous cataclysm.

After this the Earth was without form and void. We had a lot more water. The rest is history.

Yup, Velikovsky also posits that the hydrocarbons we have on Earth in the form of oil gas coal originated from Venus. Venus is known in the TaNaKh as the messenger Michael. Gabriel is Mars. The Earth experienced near collision with both on several occasions. Some of these hydrocarbons may have been deposited on Earth during the time of the Exodus, and that is why we often find gold jewelry in coal mines.

It was Alex Kozinski who actually launched the career of his assistant Brett Kavanaugh, recommending him to the commission that investigated President Bill Clinton and his wife, and in the US hardly anyone doubts that it was this that led him to the entrance to the US Supreme Court. == Finca

Alex Kozinski is known for the fact that when several women accused him of molesting a few years after this molestation had allegedly happened, several Jewish organizations came to his defense.

It is true that it was other Jewish organizations, the same ones who supported Israel’s President Moshe Katsav, who was the victim of the same accusations that even forced President Putin at the international level to come forward with doubts about their fairness.

And in order to somehow explain this paradox, I will now turn to answer to a Janos question about the Colored Projects in Israel, and his accusation of me that I hide from the CFN readers the belonging of Israel to the Black Project:

Of course, there are Colored Projects in Israel, but just like in Russia this phenomenon is connected with Colored Projects in the Global West and they do not have independent significance, since Israel is not the West and it was created by Joseph Stalin, no matter what anybody could say about that.

The fact is that no one knows whether Israel is Israel or not. For example, the Hasidim believe that Israel is not Israel and therefore the era of the expulsion of Jews from Israel continues.

And Joseph Stalin believed that what he recreated was actually Israel, and his desire to shit a little in the British Empire back yard, was just that, architecture.

Or may be not, and he created Israel for fun, although the Soviet Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee suggested that he create Israel for fun in Crimea? New York still remembers how in the 1944-1945s, the Brooklyn Jews shot at the Jews of Manhattan because of where Israel should be – in the Crimea or in Israel?

And Stalin, turning to Orthodoxy for help, listened to those Jews who wanted Israel in Israel!

And who killed Solomon Mikhoels? Who exterminated the Soviet Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee? How did Jews react to these events, the ones who wanted Israel in the Crimea, and those who wanted Israel in Israel, but not real Israel, but Israel for fun?

Or those who wanted Israel in Israel for real?

And how did they react to Stalin’s death?

But there were still Jews who wanted Real Israel in Crimea!

And all these groups that fought for the creation of the State of Israel were the spokesmen for the interests of Western Colored projects, not just of interests, but of their quintessence, since the interpretation of the Apocalypse depends on the answers to the above questions and, accordingly, the meaning of what is happening now in the Greater Middle East and Ukraine.

Your humble servant is an Orthodox Zionist, in the sense that I believe that after the Holocaust the Jews simply had to create Israel in Israel, but I became one finally not because I have family ties with those who, on Stalin’s instructions, created the state of Israel, but rather contrary to these ties, since recently the High Court of Justice of Israel made a decision according to which such as I do not have the right to claim Israeli citizenship, in my opinion, destroying the meaning of the efforts of those who created Israel. No wonder that the same court put Moshe Katsav in prison!

In short, I finally became an Orthodox Zionist after reading the life and predictions of Seraphim of Sarov, but not the notes of Motovilov, a man generally speaking possessed by demons, but the church legend of Seraphim of Sarov, which was compiled by a holy man who expelled from the Optina desert the one who published the notes of Motovilov.

By the way, Nilus, who published not only the “Notes of Motovilov,” but also the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” after the revolution, had excellent relations with the closest assistants of Lev Trotsky, who repeatedly saved him from Jews like my grandfather, even then it was clear that Nilus would make a significant contribution to the creation of the Nazi ideology that organized the Holocaust, which actually led to the creation of the State of Israel.

And I will take the liberty to assert that Nilus, publishing the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” and arbitrarily distributing them under the alleged blessing of St. John of Kronstadt, which were actually given for the publication of Notes of Motovilov, acted not on his own, but with the support of a powerful organization that organized a pogrom in Russian Mount Athos. This organization, is it a World Project?

Being funded by some Richie riches from Silicons Valley. 100 people will get $500 a month, do not spend it all in one place, and data will be gathered on its effect on education, drop out rates, what people do to improve themselves with the money. But if she eats too much bread, she can’t be a field of wheat girl. That is the paradox, the new Eleusinian Mystery. How to keep Persephone from become Hera while still a teenager. GOP senator warns against trusting Putin ‘mafia’

A U.S. senator who just returned from a congressional trip to Russia warned against trusting President Vladimir Putin, saying that dealing with the Russian government is like “dealing with the mafia.”

Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., recently went with other GOP senators to see first-hand the Russian economy and meet with government officials. But the meetings, ahead of President Donald Trump’s planned summit with Putin on July 16, turned “cantankerous” at times, he said. He described Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as a “bully.”

    https://www.apnews.com/505289e5c5d147f48516d74ebbbcb801/GOP-senator-warns-against-trusting-Putin-

The fighting qualities of Hillary Clinton, which enabled her at 26 years to force the resignation of the incumbent US President Richard Nixon, without any legal grounds for this, except for her paralyzing stare and a very specific laugh, played against her in full accordance with the principles of judo, whose masterful display was repeatedly demonstrated by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

And in this regard, it is difficult not to notice that recently Vladimir Putin was completely unfoundedly accused of corruption by a high-ranking US official, finally throwing diplomatic etiquette in the garbage dump.

Meanwhile, in the event that in response one of the equal in rank Russian official declares that he and his friends have long known that the Deep Throat agent who organized the “triumph of democracy”, also known as the Watergate scandal, is not the deputy director of the FBI Mark Felt, but a young and lovely attorney Hillary Clinton, it will be not only asymmetrical, but also completely in accordance with the principles of judo.

And if someone later in America becomes interested in the circumstances in which she acquired this nickname, then Vladimir Putin, as well as a high-ranking Russian official, will not have anything to do with it, since the aforementioned deputy director of the FBI Mark Felt, in 2005, when admitting that he is “Deep Throat”, with his confession cleared this nickname from any dirty associations.

Etiquette from the Russian side will be respected, and the opposing party, when it finally acquires the full presidential powers in the United States, will have additional reasons to establish real cooperation with Russia, rather than restarting, upon closer examination, a policy of overload instead of policy of reset.

          Malthuss,
Back in the late ’50’s and early ’60’s there were a good number of large canneries and food processing plants located in Stockton. Stockton then was a shipping/processing hub located in a valley lush with all kinds of produce…probably second only to the Imperial Valley below Los Angeles. Migrant labor was always in attendance…many people living at the subsistence level. The town then was majority white, although there were neighborhoods you would not want to find yourself in after dark.

akmofo said, “The worship of Ba’al by Israel persisted, and Israel and Judea ultimately separated. The TaNaKh attributes the worship of Ba’al to ancient Israel’s disappearance.”

“The book of Exodus and Numbers shows us conclusively that those “Israelites” were stubborn, rebellious people who were more Jacobite in their character than Israelite.

They carried the name of Israel because of what they were supposed to be—not because of who they were. They were supposed to have the character of Jacob after he wrestled with the angel, but they did not. They were supposed to bear testimony to the sovereignty of God, but they rebelled against Him.

God split the Kingdom into two nations. The ten tribes to the north retained the name of Israel. The two tribes to the south took the name of Judah. From this point on, when the prophets speak of Israel, or House of Israel, they are referring to the ten tribes to the north. When the prophets speak of Judah, or the House of Judah, they are referring to the two tribes to the south.

Thus, the name Israel took on a nationalistic meaning. No longer did it apply to the tribe of Judah or Benjamin. It applied only to the other ten tribes in the north, who had formed their own monarchy under Jeroboam.

This is very important to understand, because most Christians today mistakenly apply the prophecies to the House of Israel to the modern Jews, whose roots (even they claim) go back to the southejrn nation of Judah. Hence, “Jew” is a shortened form of “Judah.” Modern Bible teachers mistakenly apply to the “State of Israel” the prophecies of the regathering of the “House of Israel.” They ignore completely the fact that the House of Israel are the ten tribes that went into Assyria—not the two tribes that were taken to Babylon. The House of Israel never returned and were, as Ezekiel 34:16 called them, LOST [ put-away in punishment ] SHEEP.”

I wonder what percentage of Chinese imports value ends up as offshored profits for US multinationals. Does anyone have a bread crumb trail to offer?

In a effort to have an understanding of the tariffs issue and place it in a positive light:

The repatriation of the finances of US corporations is essential for any hope of reindustrialization, one of the planks of the Trump platform. From one vantage point the tax cuts might be viewed as the carrot and the tariff agenda the stick. The tax structure is so convoluted that it seems impossible to use as an incentive for repatriation. Taxing the future profit at the border seems a practical coercive strategy.

There is a cacophony of financial voices decrying the level of Chinese debt and predicting the implosion of that economy. Who holds all of this debt? Who would lose their assets in the event of default? Who believes they will be able to repossess the infrastucture that balances the debt? The Chinese show a willingness to trade in various currencies.

The established global order is visibly under assault. The stakes are extremely high and the winners and losers are hard to determine. When rising rents, rising interest rates and application of austerity measures are evident in all western economies the average citizen is already a loser. Who stands to gain from the scenario we are watching?

Considering the latest tax cuts will add $780,000,000,000.00 annually to the US defict for ten years I will shrug off any suggestion that debt is seen as a malady. The proponents of MMP have the day at this point.

Rip it apart, I value your perspective.

My son had an acquaintance that, before the last prophesied Armageddon (Remember the world was going to end several years ago due to some celestial perturbation?), Bought $100K of brand new Truck and 5th wheel (on credit, of course), maxed out his credit cards, and hit the road, leaving his $12.00 per hour job in the rear view mirror.

This vignette is analogous to our Economy and it’s reliance on debt. As our Host and others have opined, there will not be even an attempt at debt service at some point, save with savagely debased currency. Kruger is correct…borrow as long as others are willing to recognize the currency as valid.

Here there be Dragons. Your retinas ache with the ruby glow of their pitiless searing words. All breeze is gone and only a putrid miasma of desiccating sultry chat remains. Nine layers into circles of hell this wretched wasteland creeps to Friday.

But all about indignant comments fly. Like silent indignant desert birds flashing shadows over empty sands. A wasteland, barren. Only a single rough beast vexes his way forward in this unforgiving void.

A large talking black vulture rides the updrafts searching for cultural carrion to feed on. I reach for my scoped rifle. He sees my movement, begins to put the pedal to the metal, pausing briefly to bomb me with shit. It misses but I do not.

      • Ol' Scratch July 11, 2018 at 2:55 pm #

Looking forward to the GOT finale, I see. Were you an advisor for the series? You’d be a natural. Maybe even get you some Dragon Queen.

      • elysianfield July 12, 2018 at 11:51 am #

        Janos,
Nice allegory. However, I see the large talking bird as a raven searching for cultural carrion. Understand that ravens can be made to “talk”, consume carrion, and further they respond immediately to any sign of danger such as you described.

Vultures, however, have no fear of humans, and will not respond if a weapon is pointed at them. Trust me in that I know this.

        Forgive me my pedantry.

Great post JHK! Only point I would change is the fall started 1973-1978 when home grown oil peaked. From that date you can see the growth of banking as a way to redistribute wealth from the lower classes to the .01% but what do I know? The end is here, enjoy.

Those Englishmen with whom I interact regularly, in connection with Russia-Croatia match at the World Cup, too, had a change of mind.

Firstly, it turns out all the English fans got acquainted with the videos of Domagoj Vida, and came to the conclusion that he behaved in a no sporting manner, and this from the point of view of the British is a terrible crime.

    https://deadspin.com/croatian-defender-domagoj-vida-is-in-some-hot-water-aft-1827484277

Secondly, they finally realized that the cry “Beograd burn!” it is not only the exclamation of “fighters for freedom” in the Yugoslav conflict, but also the cry of Croation Ustashe who, during the Second World War, slaughtered the Serbs at the request and instructions of Adolph Hitler.

And when they start pulling by this thread, then the entire anti-Serb propaganda of the 90s, and from there the anti-Russian propaganda in England by Theresa May, which they call Theresa Mayhem, comes under question.

If we add to this the second Novichok case and the fact that because of this false flag, most of the English fans do not have the opportunity to cheer for their team live when it first entered the semifinals since 1990, then the conclusion about the inevitable resignation of Theresa May is also inevitable.

In short, according to general opinion, Gingema got two weeks left.

Where did this figure come from I do not know, but my feeling do not contradict it.

      Oops.

“In 2017, London saw 116 murders, while New York’s death toll was 292.”

      January 2018: London 9, NY 22

Feb 2018 (the only month to exceed NY): London 16, NY 14

March 2018: London 20, NY 21 (and 2 of the ‘London’ ones were in fact committed in Surrey).

So NY had 57 homicides in Jan- March and London had 45.

And in 2017, NY had two and a half times as many as London. Hmmm…

Beware statistics. And using April info. in July.

    Brexit for the Dummies

We must understand that Brexit is primarily a defeat for those who believe that for the decision-making and planning of the future one must first know everything about the present, and what happened a year ago, and even more so a hundred or even a thousand years ago does not matter (the further into the past, the less important it is).

    And now the philosophical introduction:

The English (and to some extent Americans) also consider themselves to be a special people, who have their own destiny in history. Also in the sense of the same as the Russians, who rightly say to Europe: “We will go the other way”, totally not having in mind Vladimir Lenin.

And Russians speak to their liberals about their special Orthodox way of development specifically to anger the idiots who, in 1991, relying on external support, swallowed more than they could chew, and wheeze: “The European Union, NATO, United States”, either trying to swallow what has already been gobbled, or throw it up.

And such a special way for the British is their history, and it is in this sense that we must interpret Kipling’s words about the white man’s burden, who, in Kipling’s understanding, is the Englishman and possibly the Scot. (And not the nonsense about the exclusivity of the Americans – the people, who used putting their feet on the table without taking their shoes off, or worse – taking them off.)

But the Germans, on the contrary, speaking of their exclusivity, have in mind just their superiority and want the entire world to subordinate to their ordnung, and all those who do not want to obey the German ordnung either destroy or turn into slaves.

Of course, all this is relative, all these tendencies are revealed only when looking at a piece of history in 532 years at least (the great indiction), and at every single moment, year or even century Germany can in this sense turn out to be England or even Russia.

Moreover, at any time, a huge number of Germans are in this sense more Russian or English than the Russians themselves or the English. Nevertheless, at least some conclusions from the past two great indictions should be made, and for this it is necessary to make these generalizations, thus extracting from the history at least some lessons.

    1) Avoiding the formation of a powerful continental union is the millennial policy of England, which she inherited from the Vikings, one of whom was Rurik, the founder of the Russian statehood.

Vikings and Slavs are closely related military alliances in which ethnicity played a secondary role and the Slavs can be considered part of the Viking alliance. Therefore, the opposition of the Vikings and Slavs ala Ilovaisky is the ideological struggle of England for seniority within the Viking Union, since Russia, rejecting the Norman theory, in fact, renounces the birthright in the Viking civilization. And the sanctions that Britain supported in the European Union is a family quarrel within the military alliance of the Vikings, but the conflict between Britain and Germany and France is already a conflict between the Vikings and the Salic Franks, and so far France as the creation of Hugh Capet in the two World Wars actually acted as Normandy.

    2) England (temporarily forget about Great Britain in connection with the hysteria that was made in connection with Brexit by Wells, Ireland and Scotland) joined the European Union precisely in order to destroy it, which is the implementation of the present traditional English policy and I would even say English identity.

The method of the collapse of the European Union was the method of Dilute, Dilute, Dilute and I was told about it in 1999 by a member of the House of Lords, together with me puking his guts out into the Atlantic Ocean. Dilute, dilute, dilute means that a powerful continental union is France + Germany + Holland, and if we add Italy and Spain to this union, then the union turns out to be less powerful, and if we add to this something like Poland, the Baltic countries, Romania and Greece, then it turns out a friable something, which sooner or later will get a mighty slap in the face by a clawed paw of the Russian bear.

Incidentally, the fact that Berlin will try to annex Ukraine to the European Union, and London will have nothing to do with it, although it will try to protect poor Ukraine and poor Berlin from the Terrible Russian Bear, I heard from the same lord in 1999.

    3) The Constitutional Monarchy from the English point of view is when there is a Queen, but there is no Constitution. Similarly, democracy from the English point of view is when the demos votes as Privy Counsel of Her Majesty voted the day before, and from this point of view Brexit is the decision of Privy Counsel that the task is completed and the EU is bogged down in Ukraine firmly and now nothing can save it.

    Tommy by Rudyard Kipling

I WENT into a public ‘ouse to get a pint o’ beer,
The publican ‘e up an’ sez, ” We serve no red-coats here.”
The girls be’ind the bar they laughed an’ giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an’ to myself sez I:
    O it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ ” Tommy, go away ” ;
But it’s ” Thank you, Mister Atkins,” when the band begins to play
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it’s ” Thank you, Mister Atkins,” when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
    They gave a drunk civilian room, but ‘adn’t none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-‘alls,
But when it comes to fightin’, Lord! they’ll shove me in the stalls!
    For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ ” Tommy, wait outside “;
But it’s ” Special train for Atkins ” when the trooper’s on the tide
The troopship’s on the tide, my boys, the troopship’s on the tide,
O it’s ” Special train for Atkins ” when the trooper’s on the tide.

Yes, makin’ mock o’ uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an’ they’re starvation cheap.
An’ hustlin’ drunken soldiers when they’re goin’ large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin’ in full kit.
Then it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an` Tommy, ‘ow’s yer soul? ”
But it’s ” Thin red line of ‘eroes ” when the drums begin to roll
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it’s ” Thin red line of ‘eroes, ” when the drums begin to roll.

We aren’t no thin red ‘eroes, nor we aren’t no blackguards too,
    But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An’ if sometimes our conduck isn’t all your fancy paints,
    Why, single men in barricks don’t grow into plaster saints;
While it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an` Tommy, fall be’ind,”
But it’s ” Please to walk in front, sir,” when there’s trouble in the wind
There’s trouble in the wind, my boys, there’s trouble in the wind,
O it’s ” Please to walk in front, sir,” when there’s trouble in the wind.

You talk o’ better food for us, an’ schools, an’ fires, an’ all:
We’ll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don’t mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow’s Uniform is not the soldier-man’s disgrace.
For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an` Chuck him out, the brute! ”
    But it’s ” Saviour of ‘is country ” when the guns begin to shoot;
    An’ it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ anything you please;
An ‘Tommy ain’t a bloomin’ fool – you bet that Tommy sees!

Counter-Currents is officially outraged at the Tommy Cult – forgetting that politics makes for strange bedfellows and one must often play the hand that one is dealt. Yeah, we should remember that he’s not one of us (a Zionist Jew). But he’s our Tommy, and our Hero until he isn’t. Are He and His using us? Then we use them right back.

    https://youtu.be/bmDcBLomTCI

Says he had enough of the lying British media.

We all had enough of the lying media. You don’t leave the country, you tune off the media. You boycott them out of existence. You treat them with the contempt they deserve and you boycott their financial supporters, the fascist/monopolistic advertisers.

    • GreenAlba July 12, 2018 at 9:37 am #

He was on Newsnight last night drunk as a skunk.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULfqhCNHQPA

And he’s leaving because of the RIGHT WING PRESS and BREXIT. Was that what you meant?

      https://www.theguardian.com/news/shortcuts/2018/jul/11/farewell-again-john-cleese-brexit-britain-will-miss-you

And guess where the delicate flower is going with wife no. 4… Nevis, in the Caribbean.

      https://www.theguardian.com/news/2018/jul/12/nevis-how-the-worlds-most-secretive-offshore-haven-refuses-to-clean-up

“How the world’s most secretive offshore haven refuses to clean up.”

“But then, it isn’t really a haven from taxes at all, so much as a haven from scrutiny of any kind. The same laws that appeal to the kind of nervous and wealthy men who want to hide their assets from their wives, have been regularly exploited by crooks from all over the world.”

You don’t say… I wonder how he got interested in Nevis in the first place, with all those ex-wives to hide his assets from.

He didn’t live in the UK anyway, for most of the time. Although he has a house in London and in Bath, he also lived in Los Angeles, and “had an apartment in New York. But that was in the 80s, 90s and 00s, during his middle two marriages. After that, he moved to Monaco to reduce his tax bill and to help pay alimony to his third ex-wife.”

But he’s only spent 2 weeks in the UK so far this year, so I doubt the local corner shops will miss his custom.

How the other half live, eh…

But I entirely agree with him about the right-wing rags that lied on steroids for Brexit.

“Cleese said of Nevis: “It’s one of the nicest islands I’ve ever been on. The relationship between the races is absolutely superb. The people there are really kind.”

      So that’s nice anyway 🙂

So, the real reason is income taxes. Then abolish the income tax system and reinstate tariffs that protect local industries. Where is that conversation on the BBC or the Guardian? That’s right, there isn’t even a hint of it on these foreign commie propaganda outlets.

        • GreenAlba July 12, 2018 at 12:17 pm #

Conversations about tax happen in newspapers all the time. The ones below are only from the Guardian to save me time and as an example:

A couple on land value tax:

          https://www.theguardian.com/society/2017/jun/02/the-strong-case-for-a-land-value-tax

          https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/feb/22/labour-says-land-value-tax-would-boost-local-government-budgets

And a couple on inheritance tax:

          https://www.theguardian.com/inequality/2018/apr/12/use-inheritance-tax-to-tackle-inequality-of-wealth-says-oecd

          https://www.theguardian.com/housing-network/2016/oct/14/home-ownership-inheritance-money-tory-housing-policy-barwell

And one on a carbon tax (US):

          https://www.theguardian.com/environment/climate-consensus-97-per-cent/2018/apr/10/epas-war-with-california-proves-america-needs-a-carbon-tax

Note I’m not stating a preference regarding any of them – just pointing out that discussions on the benefits or otherwise of various approaches to tax happen regularly.

Tariffs are counterproductive and can lead to dangerous outcomes.

But yes, I’d dump income tax in favour of a land value tax, and make people pay for the environmental externalities which they are currently allowed to ignore and in terms of which they freeload on the rest of us and especially on poorer nations.

I think ‘personal responsibility’ is the expression I’m looking for.

          • GreenAlba July 12, 2018 at 12:25 pm #

And I didn’t say he was leaving because of income tax. He could be avoiding any kind of tax or just transparency generally in terms of his string of ex-wives.

I don’t doubt the reasons he actually gave – I just said there may be other useful perks in disappearing to a sunny tax hidey-hole.

          • akmofo July 12, 2018 at 2:09 pm #

I don’t read the Guardian and I wont give them the clicks. An inheritance tax is not what I’m talking about. A revolution in the taxation system merits far wider coverage than a casual suggestion in an article about YET ANOTHER sleazy way to tax people. My basic complaint stands.

          • GreenAlba July 13, 2018 at 9:34 am #

How does Israel pay for public goods? Genuine question.

I think land tax is a good idea and it has a long pedigree:

            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_value_tax

It’s better than taxing people on their work.

I don’t think tariffs are a good idea for the same reasons others think the same thing. Wars aren’t good. Beyond that I don’t have the expertise to provide any new ideas for paying for public spending.

Re tariffs, though, perhaps the international community should apply a CO2 tariff to US exports if Trump reneges on the Paris climate agreement 🙂 .

          • GreenAlba July 13, 2018 at 9:59 am #

The Likud government has lowered income tax rates, but the tax revolution I speak of is not even on the discussion table because the discussion table is monopolized by the various commie dirty tricksters and foreign agents mentioned above.

            No, no tax is good!

If the government mafia has to finance itself, let it do so in a way that protects local industry, and not in a way that steals people’s income and property.

        • volodya July 12, 2018 at 12:53 pm #

Maybe you’re onto something. My understanding of the idea of separation of church and state was to keep government out of church business, not the other way around. it seems that militant secularists tout “separation of church and state” in order to advance the “freedom from religion” agenda.

I always tell these guys that no, religion isn’t at the root of all wars, after all the Romans and many others weren’t on empire building sprees for the sake of religion. Rather, wars are robbery on a massive organized scale, to rip off territory and resources and women, even if the war cry is “kill the infidel” or something like it.

History’s biggest butchers were atheists, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot Hitler.

If anybody has any question whether the democrat party is “democratic”, it’s not.

    https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/11/politics/democrats-superdelegates-reduce-role-fight/index.html

The superdelegates are the unpledged & unelected 15% of the delegates and make up the inner party. Whoever owns the DNC, which Hillary was able to leverage in 2016, will own the nomination. HRC took around 613 out of the 713 superdelegates in the 2016 convention.

I don’t see the democrats changing this rule. It’s a safeguard by the inner party to check any candidate who does not abide greater party goals.

    • PeteAtomic July 12, 2018 at 9:13 am #

As of July 11, 2016, 604 superdelegates were known to have expressed support for Hillary Clinton, while 47 had expressed support for Bernie Sanders, according to CNN.[17]

OZwon noticed: “We’re steadily heading toward the complete feudal society our masters have always desired… No one appears to see the devolution,..”

The feudal system has evolved not devolved. The lands are held by the goobermiint even after you pay off the mort-gauge you must still pay the rent and the increase there-of is out of your hands. Those who have access to cheap “money” [ actually it’s only legal tender ] buy up all the land or put it into public “trust$” which they control, or pledge it as collateral for cheap loans from foreigners. So the outcome seems obvious to me, with all the talk @bout rounding up or at least registering weapons. The so-called knights that serve the system are unaware of being themselves disenfranchised by having NO L AND .

When 40% of the land is held directly by someone far from you, and you only access it by paying a fee you are some where between peasant and slave.

If you are receiving [ whatever ] because someone else has a gun @ their back, you cannot complain about liberty – you sold it.

Excellent! “The rentier society,” as they put it back in Adam Smith’s day. “Good work, if you can find it,” would be today’s standard retort, as “rent seeking” (“rents” as undeserved profits from owning economic capital, in this case property) is all the rage these days. Doubly ironic, as “work” is nowhere to be found in the equation, and is in fact scorned as the sole duty of the utterly inferior working classes.

      • FincaInTheMountains July 12, 2018 at 11:06 am #

“rents” as undeserved profits from owning economic capital

Especially if that “economic capital” was “earned” through a mass fraud in dot com companies.

        • Ol' Scratch July 12, 2018 at 11:34 am #

Fraud yes, but fraud now permeates every industry and every sector. Fraud is endemic, as once it achieves critical mass, even the honest holdouts are forced to capitulate or be consumed by the fraudulent stinking tumorous blob. I’m thinking of the financial sector(s) in particular, but big finance has infiltrated everything now (healthcare and housing, anyone?), so the rot is now ubiquitous. How do we defeat such a terminal cancer? We don’t. We simply wait out the inevitable and hope that something better can be built eventually in the aftermath. Lucky for me, I’ll be long dead by the time all that plays out. A lot of other even less fortunate souls too, no doubt.

You are speaking in too generic terms.

I am talking about huge amounts of cash pocketed by the Clintonoids in the 90s, pushing US to the brink of financial collapse.

All subsequent troubles, including the 2007-2008 mortgage crisis, were a consequences of that massive fraud.

          • Ol' Scratch July 12, 2018 at 3:17 pm #

Maybe, but I think the problem’s a little bigger than just the Clinton’s. They’re the opportunistic hayseeds that cashed in the most by selling access to everything, but I’d call them more of an indicator than a direct cause. The Repubs just have the good sense and fine breeding to conceal their intentions better, until Trump came along at least.

” (“rents” as undeserved profits from owning economic capital, in this case property)”

The Hau de no sau nee. [ people of the long house ]

We were a people of a great forest. That forest was a source of great wealth. It was a place in which was to be found huge hardwoods and an almost unimaginable abundance and variety of nuts, berries, roots, and herbs. In addition to these, the rivers teemed with fish and the forest and its meadows abounded with game. It was, in fact, a kind of Utopia, a place where no one went hungry, a place where the people were happy and healthy.

Our traditions were such that we were careful not to allow our populations to rise in numbers that would overtax the other forms of life. We practiced strict forms of conservation. Our culture is based on a principle that directs us to constantly think about the welfare of seven generations into the future. Our belief in this principle acts as a restraint to the development of practices which would cause suffering in the future. To this end, our people took only as many animals as were needed to meet our needs. Not until the arrival of the colonists did the wholesale slaughter of animals occur.

We feel that many people will be confused when we say that ours is a Way of Life, that our economy cannot be separated from the many aspects of our culture. Our economy is unlike that of Western peoples. We believe that all things in the world were created by what the English language forces us to call “Spiritual Beings,” including one that we call the Great Creator. All things in this world belong to the Creator and the spirits of the world. We also believe that we are required to honor these beings, in respect of the gift of Life.”

The Algonquin peoples lived in terror of these people – who were fanatical devotees of the torture cult. They would torture a man for days, trying to make him cry out and lose his soul. If he withstood the most abominable tortures, they would call him brother and finally let him die. Of course the Algonquins did some of this as well…..

The French made the mistake of allying with the Algonquins while the English were the were allied with the Iroquois. Both were against the Americans. The Algonquin of the Midwest were much greater warriors than those of the East. Neither the Iroquois nor the Sioux could defeat them.

            Another POV is needed.

“The Hau de no sau nee vigorously objected to the Citizenship Act and maintains to this day that the People of the Longhouse are not citizens of Canada or the United States, but are citizens of their own nations of the League.

The Terminations Act of the 1950s were efforts to simply declare that the Native nations no longer exist and to appropriate their lands. The acts were so disastrous that they caused something of a national scandal. “St. Regis,” the European name for Akwesasne, was one of our territories targeted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs as “ready for integration.”

The BIA based its recommendation on the fact that many Mohawks had acquired at least some of the material conditions which made their community outwardly indistinguishable from the white communities. In fact, however, Akwesasne was, and is, very different from the small towns in the area surrounding it.

Termination submerged as an official policy in the late 1960s. But Termination is simply a means to an end. The objective is the economic exploitation of a people and their lands. The taking of lands and the denial and destruction of Native nations are concrete and undeniable elements in the colonization process as it is applied to Native people surrounded by a settler state. Tools to accomplish this end include guns, disease, revised histories, repressive missionaries, indoctrinating teachers, and these things are often cloaked in codes of law. In the Twentieth Century, the taking of land and the destruction of the culture and Native economy serve to force the Native people into roles as industrial workers, just as in the 19th Century the same processes forced Native people in the U.S. and Canada into roles as landless peasants.

The Hau de no sau nee has, over a period of 375 years, met every definition of an oppressed nation. It has been subjected to raids of extermination from France, England, and the United States. Its people have been driven from their lands, impoverished, and persecuted for their Hau de no sau nee customs. It has been the victim of fraudulent dealings from three European governments which have openly expressed the goal of extermination of the Hau de no sau nee. Our children have been taught to despise their ancestors, their culture, their religion, and their traditional ceremony. Recently, it has been a government-sponsored fad to have bi-lingual/bi-cultural programs in the schools. These programs are not a sincere effort to revitalize the Hau de no sau nee, but exist as an integrationists’ ploy to imply “acceptance” from the dominating culture.

Revisionist United States and British historians have cloaked the past in a veil of lies. The national and local governments of the Hau de no sau nee have been suppressed and usurped by the colonial authorities, and their neo-colonial Indian helpers, to carry out policies of repression in the name of “democracy.” Generation after generation has seen the Hau de no sau nee land base, and therefore its economic base, shrink under the expansionist policies of the United States, Great Britain, and Canada.”

Janos, forgive me for bringing up this point again (which I will not forget), but some time ago you emphatically defended the use of prostitutes by married men because, you know, men, Coolidge effect, only human, blah blah, etc.

So, yeah, whatever you all agree on, as long as you don’t expect me personally to keep a cheat in my own house because, you know, women, less important, stand by your man, blah blah, etc.

HOWEVER, call me obtuse, but I’m confused as to how the gentlemen who use these ladies are in any way at all superior to them in a fashion that would suggests it’s okay to refer to them as ‘this whore’ while you don’t use a matching epithet for the gent. In fact a worse one, because he’s, you know, married.

Now, as you know, I’m not a fan of prostitution or cheaty men (or women), but I realise neither phenomenon is going to disappear before hell freezes over, because of that ‘only human’ thing that I’ve bizarrely never felt tempted to use as an excuse for anything myself, despite being just as human as all the people who use it for pretty much anything.

But it’s your cognitive dissonance I could do with some help with in terms of your vocabulary. And your hypocrisy.

        • GreenAlba July 13, 2018 at 9:08 am #

Naturally, if men – or women – feel the need to have dalliances or use prostitutes and they’ve run this past their spouse, who says s/he’s perfectly happy with the plan or at least recognises its necessity, then it’s clearly morally in a different category 🙂

But it still wouldn’t excuse your epithet, would it?

From what I hear, he and his family are managing to extract some commercial benefit from his presidency that might make up for losses if his people have moved the contracts back to the US. Whether they have or not I have no idea.

And I don’t know how his various businesses are affected by measures he’s taken so far.

But more to the point, why does he have these commercial interests in the first place while he’s President? I gather it’s not the way your Presidents are expected to behave.

A Republican-dominated Supreme Court (SC) gave us Roe v Wade, homosexual marriage and Obamacare. In fact, Republican appointments have dominated the SC for the last 45 years. All of this talk about Republican presidents appointing pro-life, constitutionalist, originalist justices is just so much hot air.

Republican presidents have given us William Brennan, John Paul Stevens, Harry Blackmun (the man who authored Roe v Wade), Anthony Kennedy (the man who gave us homosexual marriage), and John Roberts (the man who gave us Obamacare). Trump’s appointment of Gorsuch (the man who made it illegal to deport illegal alien criminals) and now Kavanaugh are likewise in the mold of the above justices.

Kavanaugh is a favorite of the establishment. Judge Andrew Napolitano rightly called Kavanaugh a “swamp pick.” He said that Kavanaugh was the “heart and soul of the DC establishment.” He said that Kavanaugh is “a big government guy.” Napolitano also quoted Kavanaugh as repeatedly saying that “the President [ANY President] can do no wrong.”

Brett Kavanaugh, nominated by the US president for the post of US Supreme Court Justice, was involved in the investigation of Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton in the 1990s, but most importantly he was the most active investigator of the “suicide” of Vincent Foster, who was assistant adviser to the White House and key witness in the case of the Clintons in Arkansas (White Water) and kindly spared his mistress his testimony, thrice shooting himself in the back of his head.

In 2016, Hillary Clinton was questioned 11 hours on the case of the murder of US Ambassador to Libya Stevens, from which she answered ten hours for the prepared questions of her supporters.

But for one hour Trey Gowdy interrogated her in earnest.

Unfortunately, the delirium of the official media has reached such levels that a lot of CFNers simply can not understand anything, not only because of ignorance of the facts, but because they have implanted in their heads the propaganda of the official (and shadow) Clinton-media, which there (in the head) simply not letting any truthful information in.

Before meeting Putin, Donald Trump used the construction of the North Stream-2 to justify his desire to dissolve NATO, as this argument will find support from voters.

Nevertheless, his actions, especially the conversation on elevated tones with Angela Merkel, according to rumors (leaks) up to the use of non-diplomatic vocabulary, the mainstream media characterize as idiocy, including because such use of the North Stream-2 would allegedly upset Putin and it is incomprehensible why such time is chosen for such statements.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-07-11/the-pipeline-that-pits-trump-against-merkel-and-putin-quicktake

In fact, if we accept as axiom the hypothesis about a World Civil War and a theory of Colored Projects, then Merkel’s hiding behind the United States’ back to cover up her anti-Russian actions in Ukraine and Georgia should trigger the most irritation in Trump these days, and use of the North Stream-2 for attacks on NATO is more than understandable, since it is the cheap Russian gas that is one of Germany’s most important competitive advantages, and in fact Trump forces Germany to choose not between gas and security, but between economic prosperity and her desire to Drang Nach Osten , which Putin is likely to be grateful for.

There is a panic in the Clinton camp: porn star Stormy Daniels, whose book “How I fucked Donald Trump” led to the arrest of Trump’s personal attorney and the possibility of his impeachment, was herself arrested in Ohio for touching the sponsor.

This arrest means a mutiny of the local FBI against their Washington Politburo and their transition to the Trump’s side.

    Comparing City Street Orientations

    http://geoffboeing.com/2018/07/comparing-city-street-orientations/

We say the cows laid out Boston. Well, there are worse surveyors. –Ralph Waldo Emerson, 1860

In 1960, one hundred years after Emerson’s quote, Kevin Lynch published The Image of the City, his treatise on the legibility of urban patterns. How coherent is a city’s spatial organization? How do these patterns help or hinder urban navigation? I recently wrote about visualizing street orientations with Python and OSMnx. That is, how is a city’s street network oriented in terms of the streets’ compass bearings? How well does it adhere to a straightforward north-south-east-west layout? I wanted to revisit this by comparing 25 major US cities’ orientations.

In case anyone around here is still interested in talking about urban design anymore…

    • akmofo July 12, 2018 at 2:48 pm #

I would guess most coastal cities have their street orientation parallel and perpendicular to the coast adjacent.

    • tucsonspur July 12, 2018 at 5:55 pm #

There’s really not much new in urban design, New Urbanism, walkable neighborhoods, or street orientations. In essence, all streets point out of a city, whether they can take you there or not, providing an escape route.

Interesting architecture and “culture” are the high points of a city. Otherwise it’s just too many people jammed into high rise boxes, noise, pollution, slums, rats, and roaches. Not to mention stressed out, paranoid, urban neurotics.

I do like Manhattan’s Chelsea skywalk or high-line, whatever it’s orientation.

    • K-Dog July 13, 2018 at 12:27 am #

Seattle is wrong. We have two different grid systems. The original was squewed to be parallel to Elliot bay then it later changed to north south. Denny way is a street along the dividing line on the north. Seems to me if this data is going to be ever good for anything it should be right.

      Interesting, thanks, Elrond.

Edinburgh didn’t feature in the international link in the piece (although Glasgow did and it’s not even the capital!), but it’s difficult to totally lose your bearings in a small city with a crag-and-tail volcanic feature almost right in the middle of it, the Firth of Forth on one side and a castle helpfully plonked on top of an extinct volcano right beside its main shopping street to keep your focused.

Without making eye contact would be my recommendation.

My hometown of Windsor is plonked on the opposite side of the river from Detroit, and its north-south streets share the same orientation as Detroit’s central area (the entire area was originally settled by the French). There are variants based on the local geography, and on trends that changed over the last half century or so while the city was still growing, but I grew up accustomed to a pretty orderly street grid, such as also exists here in Toronto. I get discombobulated when I have to deal with less orderly street arrangements (e.g. nearby Kitchener, or St. John’s in Newfoundland, which counts as an old city by Canadian standards).

I am curious, Alba, to know how it feels to have an American head of state visit your part of the world who seems intent on destroying the USA/UK alliance by injecting himself into UK domestic Brexit politics and publicly embarrassing Ms. May?

I have long got over Trump as a thing. Trumpdom is the new normal, so it wouldn’t occur to me to protest at his visit, even if he brought his entourage (which seems to comprise some 1000 people) along my street. (And I think the baby blimp is silly and rude.) I’d be civil. I’d even be friendly. I respect his office. I’d even respect him as a visitor, although I don’t respect his views. I’m paying my share for his security and that of his somewhat excessive ‘entourage’.

I don’t disagree with EVERYTHING he says – for example, I think if Europe wants NATO it needs to pay its share – the UK does pay its share, I believe – but I agree with Simon Jenkins that we need to be thinking about what we want NATO for – I’m not a cold war fan.

      H-O-W-E-V-E-R…

I see (having not seen the actual interview with The Sun), that Trump:

‘told the Sun that he advised Theresa May “how to do” Brexit but “she didn’t listen to me”.’

Among other things that can be read here (briefly):

      https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/jul/12/donald-trump-sun-interview-theresa-may-brexit-criticism

He has also ‘warned that May’s Brexit means no trade deal with the US’.

That means Trump obviously does not even match simple old me in civility or generosity of spirit, or even basic good manners to one’s host. And this is odd because I’m just some ignorant pleb and he’s a head of state who’s had a lot more spent on his education than was spent on mine, and who should have some notion – even if he doesn’t like boring, conventional protocol – just of everyday good manners in high places. In showing none he has offended his office, not just himself. He is not here as himself – he’s here representing you.

His ignorance of normal acceptable behaviour as a visiting head of state is unbelievable. He is rude, arrogant and without the slightest iota of a scintilla of a soupçon of insight. This is not about being a ‘maverick’ on the political scene, who ‘doesn’t do diplomacy’. This is about having a level of narcissism that deprives your of the ability to know how to behave in public.

And I do hope the Brexiters are paying really, really close attention to the REAL nature of the special relationship that they’ve chosem to leave the EU for, which now has an awful lot of ‘if you don’t do as I want, f*ck you’ about it.

I hope that gives you the flavour 🙂 . But I’m not altogether surprised. He gets away with it so he’ll keep on doing it. And his supporters love it, I gather.

” “Both were against the Americans.”

There is part of the problem. You are talking about americans as if they were not Americans ”

    There is part of your problem , and has been for a long time ;

” Americans” and , ” The people ” are such vague , broad , and changeable terms that they could mean anything , or nothing.

Don’t be surprised that when your demographic becomes a minority you suddenly , magically , cease to be an American , or one of the people.

I don’t have to be psychic to predict that. It has happened several times before .

There would be no America without the dispossession and defeat of the “merciless Indian savages” (Jefferson). You and yours are correct: the Declaration of Independence is not for you. It is ours alone.

More divide and conquer? Can’t you see that is not working?

Me and mine are correct. It’s not because of a label, as KesaAnna points out, but because the Americans that were living here never had to declare their independence from the English. They have been declaring their separation and trying to maintain it for centuries now. You and yours are not listening. And you continue to make up shit and expect everyone else to swallow it whole.

As bulleted by the Sun, Trump:

Accused EU leaders of destroying its culture and identity by allowing in millions of migrants

Tore into London Mayor Sadiq Khan for not standing up to terrorists

Blamed Khan for spiralling crime in the capital

Insisted former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson would make “a great Prime Minister”.

Denied once branding Theresa May a “bossy schoolteacher”

Maintained he would keep ties with Russian tyrant Vladimir Putin despite the Salisbury Novichok poisonings

Demanded Britain and other Nato countries spend more on defence

Spoke of his sadness at feeling unwelcome in the capital by anti-Trump protesters

Claimed millions of Brits backed his policies

Told of his pride at taking wife Melania to meet the Queen.

I wonder how Trump would react if a foreign head of state came to the USA, supported the Mueller investigation and anti-Trump, pro-impeachment politicians.

It’s heartening to see that some Americans are addicted to bullshit, rather than those icky opioids. Things are just getting terrific-er and terrific-er! (All this winning is getting exhausting.)

Article in Drudge today states Crystal Meth is making a big comeback, too. Everybody has been focused on the Opioids, Oz, and forgot all about meth, but meth never went away but has been gathering strength and killing people right along.

Kids living between my town and your town have been dropping like flies from heroin OD all summer long, 3 I know about just in the past week.

You can feel free to ignore it, as no-one is going to make you marry one of ‘them’. Being heterosexual, it doesn’t affect me either. Some things in life are simple.

The problem, GA, is not in the gays – as a matter of fact for some reason I find myself in company of gays lately – but in the anti-Christian character of forcing churches to perform the rite of gay marriage.

This was manifested in the fact that during the election campaign Hillary Clinton promised to oblige all churches in America to marry homosexuals, despite that the gays themselves, on whom Obama relied in the fight against Hillary Clinton, have no relation to the religious war.

Indeed, if the Bible instead of homosexuality forbade keeping aquariums, Hillary Clinton would require the churches to just float the tropical fish in the altar.

Marginalization is not good enough, but humiliation will not satisfy either.

I don’t agree with that at all – and I don’t think it’s the case in the UK (but await correction if I’m wrong).

Gay people should be allowed to have civil weddings or to marry in churches where the clergy are happy to perform the wedding service, as many are. I don’t remotely think any individual church or cleric should be obliged to marry gay couples if they think that conflicts with their faith.

But then I’m weird because neither do I think churches should feel remotely obliged to marry heterosexual ‘Christians in name only’ who just want a fancy wedding day and nice photos. But churches don’t seem to mind that. I don’t see much difference.

Very late to party, but this sort of topic shows JHK at his best.

Yes, our bizarre financial system will, in a distant era after our collapse, inspire Doctoral theses when there are again working universities. Those PhD candidates will parse our weird investment “instruments” much as earlier scholars looked at the arcana of Medieval theology or alchemy.
