Well, of course they bugged Trump Tower. Why wouldn’t they? Trump’s big blunder du jour is that he tweeted “wiretapped,” like some hapless sap out of a 1950s I Was a Spy for the FBI movie. (I know people who still say “ice box,” too.) So he left himself — or rather poor Sean Spicer — open for a week of legalistic pettifogging by reporters acting as litigators for the Deep State’s intel corps.

Anyway, Wikileaks “Vault 7” document release earlier in the month made it clear that US intel has the ability to cover and confuse the tracks of any entity —including especially US intel itself — that ventures to penetrate any supposedly private or secure realm. And, by the way, that probably settles the matter of who “they” are. Whatever statutory restraints once existed against CIA spying on American citizens is long gone by the boards.

You might suppose, too, that the combined forces of Hillary and Obama, along with the still-entrenched Democratic establishment, would have tried through late 2016 to stop The Menace of Trump at all costs. Somebody had done them dirty in funneling the DNC and Podesta emails to Wikileaks, and it was imperative to fight back — especially with FBI director James Comey (a Republican, after all), going all rogue on Mrs. Clinton. Hence, the manufactured Russia-did-it story that has gotten more mileage than any political hallucination since Senator Joe McCarthy, at his height of influence, played the newspapers like a whole orchestra of flugelhorns.

It’s hard to see how Trump might ever established the truth of this matter. One of the strange features of these internecine wars is that the Department of Justice — as far as we know — isn’t deposing scores of operations people from the myriad agencies under the NSA umbrella to establish who’s been doing what. Anyway, there’s enough loose scuttlebutt around Washington that Trump might have a pretty good idea of who at the various agencies hates his guts, and is working against him, and one wonders why he doesn’t just fire a bunch of them. Perhaps that’s yet to come.

But it also looks a bit as though the Golden Golem of Re-Greatification has wandered into a political minefield so dense with booby traps that he’s already out of moves. First there’s the debt ceiling problem — which has so far received almost no attention from the Kardashianized collective news media. As David Stockman has pointed out on his blog, the US Treasury amassed a “war chest” of nearly half a trillion dollars last fall (via various book-keeping shenanigans) in expectation that President Hillary would need it to ride out some fiscal bad weather early in her reign.

Then, the truly inconceivable happened and Hillary won bigly in the wrong states and not bigly enough in the right ones, and, well…. Immediately, with Trump ascendant, the Treasury and its handmaidens at the Federal Reserve engineered a rapid burn-through of the war chest at a rate of about $90-billion a month since November, so that now there remains only about a month’s worth of walking-around money to run the US Government. With the old debt ceiling truce expired, congress would have to resolve to raise it, to legally enable the Treasury to resume its massive borrowing operations, or else the government won’t be able to pay invoices or issue pension checks or meet any obligations. It could even default on its “no risk” bonds.

Those dangers are theoretical for the moment, especially since there is always more accounting fraud to resort to when all else fails. But the longer a debt ceiling stalemate goes on in congress, the more trapped President Trump will be. The cherry on top is the Federal Reserve’s move to raise interest rates the same day the debt ceiling truce expired. That will thunder through the system, making many loans more expensive to repay, dampening the real estate markets (at a time when commercial real estate is already tanking), and draining all kinds of other mojo (however falsely engineered) from the Potemkin economy.

As if being trapped in a political minefield isn’t bad enough, the remaining safe patch Trump is stranded on turns out to be the LaBrea Tar Pit of health care reform. At this point, the crusade is doing worse than going nowhere — it’s getting sucked into the primordial bitumen where the mastodons and camelops sleep.

That is correct James and more evidence to the possibility that Mr. Trump was specifically installed into the presidency as the jockey de jour for the long jump off of the Steel Pier into the Big Tank.

How does one post a comment here?

The vultures have been circling since Trump dismissed Flynn. Trump is officially roadkill now. The only “news” remaining to be reported is the gory details of the carrion crows stripping his ample carcass for all to see. Will someone at least throw a courtesy blanket over the sordid scene so the gawkers don’t linger? Was this all a staged event from the very start? I’m thinking so. If not, it should have been. The deep state wins again. No surprise. Move along now folks, there’s nothing left to see here.

  3. Dumbedup March 17, 2017 at 9:33 am #

Jim, (or anyone) is this why the House and Senate Committees came back and said there was no evidence of “wiretapping?” In other words, Tom Cruise didn’t scale the side of Trump Tower at night, break in and connect a cable to the phone line on Trump’s desk? Boy, we are really getting legalistic and literal in this country. No wonder no one knows what the hell is going on or who is friend or foe.

Ooops, that got pinned to the wrong comment because I was going to clear the waters here for Dumbedup next.

Three separate intelligence sources believe that former President Obama veered ‘outside the chain of command’ and employed British surveillance agents to conduct surveillance on Donald Trump’s team prior to the election, according to a legal analyst.

Judge Andrew Napolitano revealed on ‘Fox & Friends’ this morning that the sources spilled the details to him as the controversial case continues to dominate headlines.

“Three intelligence sources have informed Fox News that President Obama went outside the chain of command,” Napolitano said. “He didn’t use the NSA, he didn’t use the CIA, he didn’t use the FBI, and he didn’t use the Department of Justice.”

        “He used GCHQ.” Napolitano explained.

“What the heck is GCHQ? That’s the initials for the British spying agency. They have 24/7 access to the NSA database.” The Judge explained.

Napolitano noted that this was done to secure plausible deniability. In other words, even if the Obama administration did spy on Trump, there may never be a way to prove it.

“So by simply having two people go to them saying, ‘President Obama needs transcripts of conversations involving candidate Trump, conversations involving president-elect Trump,’ he’s able to get it, and there’s no American fingerprints on this. ”Napolitano added. <- Zero Hedge

McMaster and Spicer both apologized, but guess who didn’t:

Donald Trump fuels diplomatic row with Britain after apology from US officials over GCHQ wiretapping claims

          http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/03/17/us-makes-formal-apology-britain-white-house-accuses-gchq-wiretapping/

“Donald Trump remained unrepentant amid a diplomatic row with Britain on Friday, hours after US officials made a formal apology for accusing GCHQ of helping Barack Obama spy on the then presidential candidate.

“Sean Spicer, the president’s press secretary, repeated a claim on Thursday evening – initially made by an analyst on Fox News – that GCHQ was used by Mr Obama to spy on Trump Tower in the lead-up to last November’s election.

“The comments prompted a furious response from GCHQ, which in a break from normal practice issued a public statement: ‘Recent allegations made by media commentator Judge Andrew Napolitano about GCHQ being asked to conduct “wiretapping” against the then president-elect are nonsense. They are utterly ridiculous and should be ignored.’

“In a press conference with Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, on Friday afternoon, Mr Trump said his White House should not be blamed for quoting a Fox News analyst.

“‘We said nothing. All we did was quote a certain very talented legal mind who was the one responsible for saying that on television,’ he said.

“‘You shouldn’t be talking to me, you should be talking to Fox.'”

So the bull drops another plopper. All those flying china shards are gonna hurt someone.

The vultures have been circling since Trump dismissed Flynn. == DA

This Sunday, the leading Clintonoids on all TV channels publicly refused to set up a special commission of the Congress and appoint a special prosecutor to investigate President Trump’s relations with Russia, and also had to admit that they did not have any evidence of Trump’s guilt, and therefore the grounds for these investigations.

In exchange there was a through-the-teeth admission of the chairman of the Congressional Commission for Intelligence, who acknowledged the absence of any evidence of Barack Obama’s order to overhear Trump on the eve of the election.

In other words, the snake’s head is pinned to the ground, at least for now.

    • FincaInTheMountains March 17, 2017 at 9:50 am #

But of course, by all means, keep on fighting the good fight among yourself – gives Russia a well-deserved break and opportunity to catch up the breath.

    • DA March 17, 2017 at 10:43 am #

Well, but evidence and proof are no longer the standards anyway. Insinuation is the gold standard these days, and all parties to the fray know it. This entire lavish production is beginning to smell more and more like Trump’s infamous “fake news” ( I prefer the term “synthetic”). Just another circus act to keep us all stirred up while the real actors of the deep state ] carry on business as usual, just as they have always done. And by the way, the term “deep state” is now officially over used, over analyzed, polluted, and virtually meaningless to the general public. The “real” deep state is by far more ephemeral, insidious, and DEEP than any public account will ever convey, although a handful of the best at least hint at it.

But as even Vlad well knows, it’s hard to take too much joy in the coming apart at the seams of the American Empire. The nukes are still handy and I can think of any number of easily manufactured synthetic scenarios that would put them in play to further distract the masses from the carnage that’s about to ensue either way, as that which cannot be sustained isn’t.

      • FincaInTheMountains March 17, 2017 at 11:02 am #

Trump will kick the Clintonoids ass and by late summer expect some American-Russian negotiations to commence.

I am pretty optimistic about that – Trump got the most combat-ready American troops on his side, he will be helped by Israeli and Russian intelligence (if not being helped already – after all, he’s still alive and kicking).

        • FincaInTheMountains March 17, 2017 at 11:14 am #

British too (after Brits quit playing their usual double-games).

        • DA March 17, 2017 at 2:54 pm #

Let’s hope, but I still think there’s more going on here than meets the eye. We’ll see soon enough!

      • Petro March 17, 2017 at 11:22 am #

I agree that the term “Deep State” is being overused, and becoming diluted and easily dismissed, which it should not be. We saw a similar thing with the term “Conspiracy Theory/Theorist” which is now something that is used more-or-less to ridicule someone and make them appear a little unhinged. The fact is, there ARE conspiracies. Does no one remember Watergate? What about the decades-long cover-up of the harmful effects of smoking by tobacco companies? Is that just history, and we need no longer worry about conspiracies? Please.

Not all conspiracy theories are necessarily crazy. Nor is the Deep State an illusion.

        • DA March 17, 2017 at 2:57 pm #

Read Russ Baker’s Family Of Secrets for the real Watergate story. It’ll rock your understanding of the world.

        • messianicdruid March 17, 2017 at 6:22 pm #

Con – spire = to breath together. Think of a football huddle ( a common uncontested conspiracy ).

      • Walter B March 17, 2017 at 1:37 pm #

Yes DA, there is NO proof, the is NO truth, there is NO certainty, not about anything whatsoever anymore. Technology has eliminated the possibility of the existences of these entities, and the programming of the masses has facilitated any and every sham, every distortion, every lie and deception to only confuse and fragment the populous even further. They are now a shepherd-less herd, a crop to be manipulated and perhaps even harvested. They have no hope and the only hope those who understand have is to avoid the pitfalls by remaining under the radar. There is still much great life to be had out here, far from the madding crowd.

  5. Paulo March 17, 2017 at 10:27 am #

When this continual Stock Market rise truns into a bloodbath and companies stop completely, and it will, does anyone actually expect The Donald to raise a calming hand and stop the panicked race to get the hell to some kinf of safety? Does anyone expect a compassionate intervention to put people back to work again?

If th US ‘strikes’ N Korea, which sounds like it might just do, will anyone trust that The Donald actually knows what he is doing when the unintended consequences speed out of control?

When will Sean Spicer quit? My God, the latest news briefings are now so full of disrespect on both sides they might as well stop doing them. This is beyond a reset fix. Trust and respect has gone, and the smell works its way upwards; all the way to Trump.

I think a nasty time of protest and violence could break out at any time as this continues to unravel. It won’t take much to light the fuse.

      • michics March 17, 2017 at 5:22 pm #

And the reason it never ended is because we were fighting the Chinese as well and we could never beat them. Not then and not now. We probably can beat the NK’s now but China will not allow the US to occupy NK which borders them.

George: Why? What’s wrong with the subject? This is a bad subject?
Susan: No, fine. If you wanna keep talking about it, we’ll talk about it.
George: It’s not that I want to keep talking about it. I just think that the subject should resolve itself based on its own momentum.
Susan: Well, I didn’t think that it had any momentum.
George: (To himself) How am I gonna do this? I’m engaged to this woman? She doesn’t even like me. Change the subject? Toilets were the subject. We don’t even share the same interests.

          What would George/Larry do?

          JIF,
If I might provide an observation. Somebody, or some club, or some group will dominate the financial concerns of the country…if it ain’t you doing the controlling, why do you concern yourself, so long as a few crumbs fall your way? Haven’t you lived well? Whomsoever controls the finances, will do so for their own benefit, and the benefit of their relatives and friends…just like in real life endeavors elsewhere.

We could do worse…our finances could be controlled by the God Damned Canadians….

*snort* You should be so lucky.

Why Canada Didn’t Have a Banking Crisis in 2008

            http://www.nber.org/digest/dec11/w17312.html

“When European and North American banks teetered on the brink of meltdown in 2008, requiring bailouts and extraordinary central bank intervention, Canadian banks escaped relatively unscathed. History explains why, according to co-authors Michael Bordo, Angela Redish, and Hugh Rockoff in Why Didn’t Canada Have a Banking Crisis in 2008 (or in 1930, or 1907, or …)? (NBER Working Paper No. 17312). Starting in the nineteenth century, Canada and the United States took divergent paths: Canada set up a concentrated banking system that controlled mortgage lending and investment banking under the watchful eye of a single, strong regulator. The United States allowed a weak, fragmented system to develop, with far more small (and less stable) banks, along with a shadow banking system of less-regulated securities markets, investment banks, and money market funds overseen by a group of competing regulators.

“‘[T]he stability of the Canadian banking system is not a one-off event,’ the authors note. ‘In Canada the banking system was created as a system of large financial institutions whose size and diversification enhanced their robustness…. In the [United States] the fragmented nature of the banking system created financial institutions that were small and fragile. In response the [United States] developed strong financial markets and a labyrinthine set of regulations for financial institutions.’

“The contrast is striking. While in 2008 and 2009 the United States experienced bank failures, bailouts, and the worst recession since the 1930s, Canada had no bank failures, no bailouts, and its recession was less severe than either that of the early 1980s or early 1990s. Long before 2008 in the United States, there were the failures of the private investment bank Jay Cooke and Co. (the 1873 crisis), the Knickerbocker Trust (the 1907 panic), and the runs on banks that deepened the Great Depression. Although Canada’s economy suffered a collapse equally as dramatic as America’s in the 1930s, not one of its banks failed.”

See also this, demonstrating that Canada is actually capable of running a balanced budget when it feels like it:

            http://www.cbc.ca/news2/interactives/canada-deficit/index.html

That’s not even to say that balanced budgets are always a good thing, but at least we’re capable of it. In all seriousness, you people like to rag on Canada but we have our shit together in quite a few of the ways you keep complaining the U.S. doesn’t.

          • elysianfield March 18, 2017 at 1:43 pm #

There are certainly some people who want to censor “hate speech” which ultimately can be defined as anything.
Say something which offends a politician, a banker, a Moslem, or a pedophile and you’re guilty of “hate speech”. You’ve made them sad. Off to the political re-education camp you go, you hateful one!

They need Bogeymen on which to focus their anger, someone real and tangible and easily reached out and grabbed hold of when their emotions overcome them. Those Who Rule (and who have always ruled) transcend all race, nationality, religion, or ethnic proclivities. They are bound by a far older and darker brotherhood. Their loyalties are known to those who understand and those that do not, well, it matters not, they are expendable.

Forgiveness and Salvation are my most burning desire and I have been given assurance that these are still within my ability to achieve. I suppose that is my long winded way of saying “Not at all”.

Well sir, up until a couple of decades ago your insinuation would have been laughable and easily brushed off.

Today the scene has shape-shifted at warp speed, becoming very strange indeed rule (as stated above so succinctly) by mistrust, open perfidy, evasion and distraction.

Is it not odd indeed that an ‘extremist’ like David Icke draws crowds of several thousand whenever he shows up for one of his bizarre talks? Are there that many weirdos around looking to have their phantastic phantasies confirmed (or juiced up)?

The notion of a Reptilian conspiracy, or some other science fiction scenario, is (as it were) ‘less far out’ in the new Millennium (there, I spelt it correctly: ‘two Ms, two Ns, two LLs, two eyes’). Life, even for the average schmoe, has evolved in very odd ways indeed, and that evolution is accelerating logarithmically. And not in very nice ways.

CSB: At the height of the Korean ‘police action’, with hundreds of thousands of PLA troops pouring over the border and beating the shit out of the UN forces, MacArthur wanted to plant a ‘Maginot line’ of atomic explosions along the border. He would also send lone B-29s flying high behind the Chinese / N. Korean lines to give them a little thrill (just five years after Hiroshima, remember).

Chairman Mao, a peasant boy who made good, was counseled urgently by his generals to deal in the awesome factor of a nuclear attack on China. He brushed them off, stating that it was just another weapon. (Sound familiar, Mister Preznit?)

So these wily officers arranged for The Great Helmsman to personally witness an atmospheric blast of a smallish nuke. He quickly changed his tune after that.

And ‘Dugout Doug’ was fortunately (for the Asians) fired by Harry Truman, his exuberant plans for an atomic counter-offensive shelved for the moment.

It’s going to be quite a breathtaking ride.

          • SpeedyBB March 19, 2017 at 9:19 pm #

And as for the Jews being behind all the sinister financial wheeling and dealing, that sounds like ‘beat up the smartest kid in the class’ during playground time ritual.

Enduring success rarely goes unpunished. Exceptional success best stay low and ready to run. Ask any offshore Chinese entrepreneur.

Re: the hacked CIA documents (aka “Vault 7”), anyone interested in the more technical details about the leaked documents and what they say about the CIA’s capabilities could start by listening to episode 603 of the Security Now podcast which I follow:

    https://www.grc.com/securitynow.htm

Their verdict, based on the show notes, is that in terms of computer security, “there really was nothing hugely new here.” In other words, everything the CIA had consisted basically of exploiting well-understood security issues by means no different than criminal hackers do.

So, the CIA may have had knowledge of zero-day exploits which they didn’t share with the computer security community so that they could be patched. This (a) is irresponsible and enables criminals who are also aware of those exploits, and (b) is completely to be expected of any spy organization. Basically, it’s nothing explosive. Now that the problems have been publicized, computer security experts will patch the holes in the usual manner, lots more security holes will still exist, and the game will carry on as normal.

Final interesting observation from the podcast: “The NSA/Snowden and CIA/WikiLeaks disclosures demonstrate conclusively, if nothing else, that, despite all of their best efforts, those high-end government intelligence agencies are unable to secure their own working assets. So… how could they possibly be trusted with any explicit ‘Golden Key’ which would allow them to access our encrypted communications?”

    Discuss.

    Not so fast.

Do not count out the scrapper from Queens, after all it is only (not even) 60 days since the inauguration of the dark horse candidate of all times.

The Donald did not get ahead in Gotham City by being a pushover.
Plenty of of Manhattan’s bigliest scumbags desired to take him down and failed miserably.

During the primaries, his opponents, all very well connected Republican operatives and their minions, did everything but buy him out, and still lost bigly to Trump.

Tee Demoncrat’s annointed one, H. Rodan Clinton, could not get beyond coughing and collapsing before succumbing to the media-savvy power of the reality TV star.

Donald Trump is the president of the United States by gosh and his learning curve is probably just kicking in. If he discoveres just how to use the occult mechanisms of The State before impeachment or WWIII, he will show all the smarty pants and scumbags in Washington, NYC, Hollyweird and everywhere else around the world, just who is the bigliest cheese of them all.

And as for visitors to the White HOuse: I hope he tells the vile traitor, German P.M. Angela Merkel, that on advice from the Joint CHiefs, since Germany has invited 50 divisions of para-military Yzlamik hordes into Deutchland, that all American forces in Germany will be packing up and going elsewhere or home as they cannot repel an already successful invasion.

Re: the debt ceiling, I’ll just copy and paste this directly from yesterday at Naked Capitalism.

TL;DR Actual debt ceiling fight won’t happen for several months because reasons.

“‘Debt Ceiling Primer’ [Across the Curve]. Useful, and read the whole thing for detail on ‘extraordinary measures’: ‘Here’s how it works: a law is passed that says the debt ceiling is suspended until a certain date. The last such legislation established March 15 as the deadline, so here we are. Republicans in Congress did not trust the Democratic Administration to avoid playing games with this new approach, so the legislation also stipulates that Treasury has to get the cash balance down to a specific level (otherwise, Treasury could manipulate the debt ceiling up by borrowing more than necessary). That level happens to be $23 billion…. Federal government cash flows are quite seasonal, and the biggest inflow of cash all year happens to be coming up (April 15 tax date). So, once we get over that hump, inflows will carry the Treasury for quite a while, probably through the summer and into the fall based on current estimates. Thus, from a market perspective, nothing happens today. Then, starting tomorrow, bill supply will begin to normalize and the cash balance will rise. And then, nothing for several months until the extraordinary measures near exhaustion. And then the political war over raising the debt ceiling kicks in and the Treasury market starts to get nervous.'”

    Ozone,

about your link to the zerohedge article, yeah, interesting and provocative and gets you to look at it from different angles.

For example, a modification of the theory that Trump is there because the Deep State WANTS him there is that Trump is there because the Deep State merely acquiesces to his being there.

Now, why would they acquiesce? Because the Deep State consider either Trump or the alternative, Hillary, to be serviceable in the Oval Office, the idea being that even if Trump and his chief ideologist Bannon don’t see eye-to-eye with Deep State leadership, there’s enough of an overlap in views. Ideally it would have been President H.R. Clinton, but what the hell, they’ll make do. For example, look at the proposed expansion of defense spending. Music to Deep State ears.

And, if views conflict, the Deep State has enough of an engulfing power to smother Trumpian initiatives, assuming of course, that such initiatives survive Congressional obstruction by Deep State cohorts. And let’s not under-estimate Deep State barricades in the judiciary. Trump’s travel bans, after all, have been stymied twice.

Putting it in perspective, the travel bans are about the relatively small-potatoes issue of Muslim terror. This is just Trump signalling to his supporters, that, yes, Mr. and Mrs. Clinger-to-Guns-and-Religion, I take the borders seriously.

I only mention the travel bans because their overturning by courts serve as an example of Deep State power. And, IMO, while Muslim terror is a concern, because they can hit anywhere and anytime, it isn’t the main concern of the Deep State. Not remotely.

      avoid conspiracy theories.

      Please advise how.

      • DA March 17, 2017 at 3:27 pm #

The name itself – conspiracy theory – is meant to be demeaning and dismissive now. In truth, the word conspiracy has itself been polluted and no longer useful as well; “conspiracies” more often than not just being well-coordinated plans by people in high places, to which the general public and/or the large parts of official state bureaucratic apparatus, which would normally be expected to have such access, are not privy. Such semi-secret plans have been going on since long before the United States even existed, although the modern art has certainly advanced light years since then.

Much of what makes modern conspiracies so effective, as we see being made abundantly clear today, is the very simple yet effective art of disinformation, or even simpler, information “carpet bombing,” or flooding the media with so much information – both valid and invalid and every shade in between – that people become hopelessly disillusioned of ever knowing the truth (9-11 especially has fallen prey to this technique). All of which pretty much sums up our current state of affairs perfectly. And without wishing to offend the host or anyone else for that matter, let me just add that if you still believe the “official” stories behind JFK, RFK, MLK, Watergate, Iran Contra (since officially exposed), OKC, Honduras and pretty much any other Central or South American coup, 9-11, MH17, Ukraine, and many many others far to numerous to go into here, you really need to ditch the rose colored glasses and get out there and look for the information. It’s all there, academically researched by distinguished journalists of every nationality and stripe, right down to the finest detail for the most part. Most of it is simply ignored, as our masters always knew it would be, as we Americans prefer the sugary sweet lies they’ve been told to the decidedly unsavory truths that hide beneath. But its all out there, all you have to do is look.

A conspiracy theory is watching a football huddle from the top row and calling the next play, based on what ever factors are available to the watcher; except actually hearing the players involved.

          ( see above )

        • 25miles March 19, 2017 at 3:39 pm #

Conspiracies do happen but to suggest every event you listed was contrived, faked or misrepresented is ridiculous. You said it yourself… to call someone a conspiracy theorist is demeaning and dismissive and yet targets of that slur have only themselves to blame since they attribute virtually every event of any notoriety to “our masters”. If you look long and hard enough in todays internet age you WILL find something that contradicts any official account, but that doesn’t make it true. How can you acknowledge ‘information “carpet bombing”… both valid and invalid’ and yet discount the official story in virtually every case. Let me guess, Sandy Hook was a false flag right? The holocaust, vaccinations and contrails are all government plots too, I’m sure. Yes there are corrupt judges but they are few and far between and are much more likely to be engaging in self-enrichment than erecting “Deep State barricades in the judiciary”. You give the deep state way too much credit. Of course, if you yell conspiracy often enough you’ll succeed in undermining public confidence in the judiciary which has a constitutional mandate to protect us from the kind of government overreach you’re so paranoid of but hey, that’s part of the fun right?

KesaAnna, regarding your response that what defines human life is no minor issue, I agree.

I would say though, that while a woman may want or need an abortion at some point in her life, she has to make a living and she has to eat every day, three times a day. So the point is that her economic situation has to come first and is the more important and more immediate problem.

And her economic situation and its year-by-year degradation is what the Oligarch elite and its collaborationist clerisy want to distract from. So they say “abortion” or “evolution” and a shit-storm ensues. And the Oligarch laughs.

With respect to your comment that balkanization is no cure-all I would agree with that also, with no ifs or buts. As you say, it’s as easy to find examples of nasty and corrupt despotism as it is to find examples of good management and prosperity among small countries. Of course, the lesson is for proponents of national break-up, ie of the United States. Local government may be better. Or not.

I would agree that this is probably the worst issue on which to stake one’s credibility and arm-twisting prowess. (Even Queen Hilly had this item smothered in its crib when she birthed and backed it while her husband was busy exporting America’s industrial might.) You get in cahoots/pissing-matches with the insurance rackets and, baby, you’re *done*; they’ve got the resources to buy anybody — just name your price!

That aside, taking your missive in a holistic light, I begin to wonder if any of these assholes controlling power and purse give two shits (or even one shit) about the citizens that are forced to live under their diktats. If they don’t (and it certainly appears that way), then the echo chamber bubble they’ve chosen to live in will become a very dangerous place when circumstances devolve to a point of penury and food insecurity for the general populace.

I know of people who spend every penny that comes in… as well as plenty of pennies they don’t have that are pledged to the tender clutches of the credit providers. This is going to get very ugly, but may force an awakening. At the same time there are those that fervently wish to remain asleep. Will it be “worse” for them? I can’t presume to predict whether “forewarned is forearmed” will apply to a collapsing nation state.

After the American Wicked Witch of the West Bastinda lost the election, all the raids on Russia are now aimed at provoking riots in Moscow, ala 1990, and not a real war that was on the brink two years ago, when General Breedlove wanted to launch large-scale NATO maneuvers on the borders of Russia by all means on June 22. (The day when German Nazis attacked the USSR in 1941)

And every informational occasion, testifying to the contradictions in Moscow, provokes additional attacks by the so-called world community, which is now waging a war on two fronts – first of all against American President Donald Trump, and the second against the Russian Vladimir Putin.

With all my respect for Angela Merkel she is still far behind Hillary Clinton, the German Sister-Witch can not yet imagine the threat of nuclear war as a goal, and not as a means.

Now we’re getting somewhere! One thing you can take to the Bank: If Harriet Tubman is put on the 20, it will cause an explosion of artistic creativity among the White Alt-Right. Every 20 will bear a message, every image will be defaced. People will begin to collect 20’s for their artistic value and trade them among friends. They will become collector’s items and big money. The Deep State will withdraw them from circulation before then though – if they are wise.

Some say that Tubman’s image will be a light activated hologram that will sass and curse as soon as she is taken out. And perhaps also, a mini camera and recording device. Her eyes the first, and her ears the second.

So what do we mean by Deep State? Is it a cabal of shadowy operatives who live by black-mail and threats and by the law of the knife and the gun? There’s situations, after all, where the only due process is a bullet.

More than that though, the Deep State operates in plain view. It’s just your ever day government bureaucracy. Do you file taxes? Sure you do. The boffins at the IRS, they do their thing and you pay every year and life goes on. Mostly, that is. Because the IRS also has got enormous power to screw up your life if they want.

Same with law enforcement. You stay on the right side of the line, you stay under the radar and mouth the right words and your life goes on. Mostly. Because, for people in certain positions, attacks of conscience just won’t do. If they speak up the whole apparatus crashes down on them. Their house will suddenly be crawling with Virginia farm boys with guns and badges. There’s certain things not meant to be known.

Like what? Like, that old example, surveillance. Terror, they claim, or drug running or money laundering. Right-o, no doubt, there’s nasty people that need watching. And besides, it’s just “meta-data”, as if that was an accurate characterization.

But it wasn’t. They knew what number you called and what day and what time. The data gathered was very specific which by itself could be used to wreck lives even if they didn’t listen in and record the call.

For example, the middle-aged married guy that repeatedly called the number belonging to that sweet young thang. Imagine that information presented to Mr. Middle Age as a threat. Do this or do that or else this goes to your Mrs. So no more of that meta-data nonsense.

Or imagine Mr. Middle Age as a closeted gay who called that man-for-hire not, as Seinfeld would say, that there’s anything wrong with that. Well, in NYC maybe and its big-city anonymity, it’s no big deal.

But not every place is like NYC where people pretend to be relaxed and ok with everything. Tough as it is for a New York liberal to grok, in some societies in the US people don’t make-believe about being all casual and intellectual.

Why? Because not every place is as socially fragmented as the big city, some places are much closer knit and more personally connected and action has consequences. You know every other face on the main-drag, they know you. Woe to the cheated-on wife or cuckolded hubby. Or worse, woe to the cheater. Or to the gay, un-closeted against his-her will.

Such things aren’t celebrated, they’re not shrugged at, careers are damaged, friendships come apart, families disintegrate. Yeah, some small towns are worse than Peyton Place and their denizens Harper Valley hypocrites. But they still ain’t Paris where you and your babe and your wife and her lover have croissants together every morning. That shit just don’t fly over here. Unnerstan’ boy?

Well, but as I heard someone say elsewhere in the internets: the Deep State is not a monolith. The is no one generic “Deep State,” but many deep states of various shades of gray, overlapping, cooperating, or warring with each other in complex ways over countless complex issues. What the media often refers to as the deep state these days (to throw us off the scent in my view) is nothing more than the “enduring state” or the “enduring bureaucratic state,” which is little more than the official administrative apparatus which endures beyond election cycles and partisan political battles. The true Deep State is a whole lot deeper and more shadowy than that. And a lot more powerful and thus dangerous too, of course. And most of it’s not even officially part off “the state” proper at all! The CIA’s unofficial headcount is probably ten to a hundred times or more greater than anything you’ll find on the books at Langely. And probably a thousand times more powerful as well.

  21. volodya March 17, 2017 at 1:03 pm #

Ozone, no doubt you’ve read that there’s a sizeable survivalist subset of mega-billionarios that are buying and re-furbishing obsolete missile silos as shelters and hide-outs. Others are buying up land in New Zealand as a modern-day refugia.

Looks like they’ve read the entrails. They know the system they’ve made over the past generation or two is unworkable and unfixable and they’re gettin’ outta Dodge.

Well, they can run but they can’t hide.

To your question, is it better to be forewarned and therefore presumably forearmed? Your guess is as good as mine. You have to make guesses as to the future course of events. Which side of a brand new border do you want to be on, where do you run to, which of the brand-new lordships and their band of bullies will be least-worst? Is it better to go along to get along even if it’s onerous or take a stand and fight and hope for the best?

One way or another, society will re-make itself. For the better? Who knows?

This is why I’ve always said, Vladimir Putin has to create the ultimate assassination team to find and exterminate these billionaires (including the trillionaires i.e. Rothschilds and Rockefellers) if they don’t stop the push towards WW3. They alone have the power and motivation to drive for nuclear war and THEY ALONE can stop it.

Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) is no longer a deterrent because the perpetrators of WW3 believe they can ride out the aftermath in such bunkers.

Vladimir The Great will have to bring WW3 to them personally. Not only terrorizing the surviving billionaires to back off but, to forcibly break their claims on the world’s assets and macro-economies so that things can be restored.

It won’t be Trump that will Make America Great but, Putin. IF he does what Karma and the Fates are commanding him to do.

I think you’re mostly exactly right, although WW3 could easily go nuclear by mistake alone. But you’re absolutely right that Putin or someone like him will have to go after these bastards in the same way that Putin did with the Russian oligarch betrayers in the wake of Yeltsin and Clinton’s criminal betrayal. Trouble is, the west is now a veritable viper’s nest of criminal corruption safely ensconced throughout all of public and private society. It’s going to be an exceedingly long and difficult fight, if indeed, it’s ever fought at all.

Petro, another thing, conspiracies don’t have to be explicit agreements among various actors, malicious or not, the conspiracy can be unspoken, an implicit understanding about how things will work, who does what etc.

And defy the consensus-conspiratorial agenda and pay the price. The price can be dire ie bogus criminal charges. Or it can be social or economic marginalization, a banishment to the fringes. Nobody hires you, your former friends and associates no longer return calls etc.

Perhaps I’m wrong, but I get the feeling that the whole Trump thing has played itself out. After the initial spasm of joy in electing him, the feeling of joy is playing itself out. Now comes the down and dirty part which consists of actually making things happen. I don’t think he can pull it off. Reality has a way of thrusting itself to the front of human consideration, whether they like it or not. The unwashed, older, white men have had their say, but there is little to solidify their wishes. Trump has been stymied as far as most of his attempts to change the way things are being done. After the initial disbelief that he was elected, we are coming to the post orgasmic let down that inevitably follows that spasm of joy. He is being stymied in all of his endeavors and, I think, will continue to be, once people have caught their breath. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a Democratic apologist, Hillary and her cohorts betrayed us almost as badly as the Republicans did. Until we get rid of the Oligarchs, the (former) middle class will continue to go down, and companies like Goldman Sachs and their ilk, will continue to call the shots. I think that what we have witnessed currently, is the reaction of the uneducated, uninformed people to the current economic conditions that prevail, ie: the taking over of the government by the corporate interests. Until other people recognize that fact, conditions will not improve. Anybody who thinks that we still have a Democracy, is a fool. Time will prove the truth of what I’m saying.

Was reading an Introduction to Gawain and the Green Knight. The Gawain poet is widely considered to be a genius, still using some of the ancient Anglo-Saxon alliteration although perhaps a contemporary of Chaucer, who had left that behind. Contemporary scholars find it difficult not to project their own mindset on to such a sophisticated man. But it is an error: whoever he was, he was a devout believer.

Who is the Green Man? Is he the Khidr of Islam? Or just a generic “vegetation god” whatever that is supposed to be. In any case, he is a great kidder and a Master of the Axe. If one doesn’t axe the right questions, one won’t get the right answers. See Thwack above. And if one doesn’t axe at all, then you’ll get nothing. Remember Parsifal’s failing to axe the wounded king what ailed him.

Don’t feel sorry for Spicer. He’s been around Washington DC long enough to know that the press secretary has to be able to lie effortlessly without the bat of an eye. In fact, he probably is the biggest whore in DC because no matter how stupid a thing the boss says, he has to sell it. He didn’t live under a rock all last year, so he knows how crazy president Cheese Doodle can be.

As for “wire tapping” Trump, the “intelligence” (I use that term loosely) agencies can’t seem to stop leaks or hacks, so if there are records of Trumps communications, they would already be on the web.

One more thing. The president has access to all classified data the government has, and he can declassify it at his whim. Don’t you think the Cheeto in chief would just release the evidence if he had it? He doesn’t because the only evidence he has is this Breitbart story

    http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/03/03/mark-levin-obama-used-police-state-tactics-undermine-trump/

Time to get real kids. Obama isn’t Nixon. One reason the Republicans hated him so badly was they couldn’t get any dirt on him. Some of Trump’s communications would have been swept up in the unimaginably big net the NSA uses to capture all web based communication, but that’s it.

Why is Trump just bowing down to these black robed carrion? Hopefully his public admiration of Andrew Jackson is a sign that he plans to do likewise at some point. Otherwise, why did he bother? These 9th Circuit lowlifes will destroy the Nation with their overreach.

My Idea: Simply cut the Gordian Knot. After the next Muslim outrage, ban all immigration from everywhere. No discrimination against Muslims – discrimination against all aliens. When the Liberals, Minorities, and Muslims revolt – and they will – declare Martial Law and deal with all domestic enemies and begin the long march to reconquer the Institutions and Organs of State; a long term campaign that will be just as much or more social and cultural as it will be overtly political.

Actually, the executive is unable to do much without congress providing funding and the courts finding constitutionality.

Trump cannot issue executive orders that violate the constitution, as he has found out the hard way these last 50 days. It’s a government with three branches… with ample checks and balances. It is crazy, One of the tragic ironies of the current age is the left expending political capitol fighting for the immigration rights of lunatic religious fanatics unwilling to assimilate… support for Muslim immigrants whose level tolerance calls for the murder of a Theo Van Gogh for simply expressing his observations of Islamic intolerance

I don’t recall if I’ve ever mentioned this story before but I once knew a very short and rotund Apache man who sweated profusely with the least bit of exertion probably because he chained smoked Camel cigarettes. One day he told me his wife had had an affair with a younger man and to rub salt in his emotional wounds, with a man who had a ‘far larger, more satisfying penis’.

Apache dude told me that’s what really hurt, even more than the affair itself.

About six months later I run into Apache dude and I notice a female with a burka covering her face standing well behind him but no doubt connected to him. I asked him what was up with that and he told me that was he and his wife were now practicing Muslims ( I was surprised when he didn’t wink after telling me that.)

For a moment I was surprised or at least until it dawned on me that he had brought that cheating bitch to heel via religion.

He was a new man and now a domineering man. Chalk up another victory for “spirituality”, Brother!

Yes, we have to get them under control – the women that is. Perhaps we can learn from the Muslims rather than converting. The women around Christ dressed far more like Muslims than they do like contemporary Euro-Americans.

In any case, Liberalism has killed all satire and its proponents haven’t a clue about how far they’ve fallen. Not to see how insane it is when marching Feminsts don hijabs and chant Allahu Akbar is just more insanity. Not by accident either, at least not everywhere: one of the organizers of the American Woman’s March was a Muslima who wears a hijab.

The girl was found Monday after a social worker went to check on her because she hadn’t been to daycare for several days, according to NBC Connecticut.

After the social worker got the girl to unlock the door, she discovered the child’s mother dead in a bedroom, according to the Hartford Courant.

Litwin told the paper the child had been alone for “definitely more than a couple of days.”

On Wednesday, authorities identified the mother as Twanna Toler, 37, the AP reports.

Deputy Chief Beau Thurnauer said police are investigating, even though there were no outward signs of criminal activity or forced entry.

The child was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for evaluation. She was dehydrated but otherwise in good condition, police said.

Authorities are waiting for the results of an autopsy by the medical examiner’s office to find out how Toler died.

Cost of security for Trump Tower: $183 million/year

    Budget for National Endowment Arts/Humanities: $148 million/year

  38. janet March 17, 2017 at 8:48 pm #

Immediately after the election Trump transition spokesman Jason Miller explained that Melania would be staying in New York because there was “obviously a sensitivity to pulling out a 10-year-old in the middle of the school year”.

We have since learned that the cost of security for Melania and Barron to remain at Trump Tower is $183 million/year. There is also no indication that they will actually move to DC this summer. So in essence the Federal government is giving the Trump family a $183 million annual voucher so Barron can attend the elite private prep school of his choice.

Meanwhile, we learned last night that Trump’s budget would completely eliminate funding for the National Endowment for the Arts. The NEA, with an annual budget of only $148 million, is able to provide seed money for arts programming in literally every Congressional district in the country.

So, on the one hand you have a $183 million school voucher for a single 10-year-old at an elite private school. On the other hand you have a program that impacts arts and cultural programming throughout the entire nation.

    NOT NORMAL.

Well, I have long argued that in presenting themselves on battlefields to risk being carved up by battle axes, or shot at, or blown apart by cannons, on that score at least, the kings of yesteryear were more civilized and more evolved than these virtuous products of your vaunted meritocracy .

It seems to me that if these people are really our BETTERS , then the LEAST they could do is take their chances the SAME as the LEAST of us , like , for example , felons ( the felony was spitting on a rich fellow ) stripped of their privilege of self defense.

But then I’m a “Kook” or an “extremist” .

So I’m really rather puzzled , what exactly are you complaining about?

There is no logical end to how much this security costs?

But that goes without saying. Surely you already knew that, and already endorsed it?

For that matter, in the wider context, I don’t really understand the complaints or worries about this Deep State.

Were the implications not obvious long ago , and did you not get what you wanted and asked for?

  40. KesaAnna March 18, 2017 at 12:32 am #

    Speaking of yesteryear ………..

Your complaints weren’t exactly thunderous when Benjamin Franklin , as Royal Postmaster , stabbed his employer in the back, and went pawing through Thomas Hutchinson’s non-state, private, letters to a friend.
And, worse, when he actually found nothing incriminating in those letters, proceeded to write letters out of whole cloth, claimed they were Hutchinson’s, and had them printed in newspapers for the intended purpose of character assassination.
( which , as in an unbelievably horrible horror movie, succeeded. )
Hutchinson was, in his 60th decade, forced to leave the only country he ever knew, and died in penury.

    Complaints?
No, even now you say Franklin was a fine fellow , and put his visage on the hundred dollar bill.

This I always recall whenever you folk –rightly– begin to worry about the midnight knock on the door.

Remember when he said he was going to use American steel to build these dangerous pipelines? Russian steel arrived last week for the Keystone Pipeline XL.

Remember when he said would defeat ISIS in 30 days? He still doesn’t even have a plan.

Remember when he said he was going to appropriate money to HBCUs? He lied to get a photo-op.

Remember when he said he was going to drain the swamp of Washington insiders? His cabinet is filled with lobbyists, oil and Wall Street executives.

Remember when he said he wasn’t going to cut social security and Medicare? The Republican bill does just this.

Remember when he said that nobody on his campaign has any communications with Russian govt? 7 of his people have now admitted they spoke and/or met with Russian officials, after they lied and got caught.

Remember when he said that the Obamacare replacement would cover more people at lower cost? The AHCA that the GOP and 45 are now pushing; they now admit will cover fewer people at a higher cost.

Berkeley also will cease doing business with those companies.

“Our city is one that is known for breaking down walls, not building them,” Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin said at the meeting when the resolution was passed, reported the East Bay Express. “We will continue in that tradition regardless of what happens at the federal level.”

It would seem an irrational expectation to think that Obamacare can be solved through the legislative process.

It seems we are witnessing an attempt towards equilibrium with an unstable party. Ref. Prisoner’s dilemma

It seems equally irrational to expect a party with such personal enmity towards the executive capable of decision making which is in their own best interest.

The debt ceiling is just one of the many problems which require real decision making ability, without taking heed of one’s own emotions.

We are witnessing almost half of a Senate incapable of separating “feelings” from the rational.

I agree with JHK’s hypotheses, but I disagree with his assertion that the national debt limit won’t be worked out in a relatively timely manner. Congress people are first and foremost concerned with their re-election, and they’re smart enough (devious enough?) to know the public won’t tolerate missed paychecks and other benefits. I expect one party to back down on its agenda enough to satisfy the other. It remains to be seen which party blinks first. The MSM will also play up this “crisis” and ratchet up the pressure.

I just can’t see the situation lasting more than a few weeks after the money runs out, if that long.

The party not in power has the advantage. The Dems are frothing-at-the-mouth crazy against Trump, while the Repubs don’t want to lose their congressional majority, so, as a guess, I’d say the Dems will make out better in this situation.

beantownbill: “Congress people are first and foremost concerned with their re-election, and they’re smart enough (devious enough?) to know the public won’t tolerate missed paychecks and other benefits.”

It’s not just the two parties — it’s the divisions within the majority party, especially in the Senate. Ted Cruz and the Freedom Caucus have an established record of playing debt-ceiling chicken. Why wouldn’t they do it again? And who’s to say they won’t go all the way this time if they feel like it? That leaves it to egomaniacal narcissist in the White House to cut the Gordian knot. If any president is liable to go the seignorage route (i.e. the platinum coin), it’s him.

Any vote on increasing the national debt limit will not go 100 to nothing or 435 to nothing. Any game of chicken almost by definition must end, otherwise call it deadlock, not chicken.

I’d give it 2 weeks max before an extension is passed. After that, the people get very angry. Politicians fear civil unrest.

DA, you might be thinking about our good friend the Archdruid. He also sez the Deep State isn’t a monolith.

I agree with you both, that there’s contending factions. But I think there’s also enough consensus that the basic institutions, endure, as you say. For them life goes on. Whether government bureaucracies act in accordance with their stated mandate or whether they act for their own benefit, to the great disadvantage of people they are meant to serve, well, that’s another thing.

We’ll see how far the Deep State consensus goes, especially with large, over-arching issues like so-called globalization. Let’s not forget that the military is also part of the Deep State and that these guys have guns, are highly trained and have a command, control and communication structure. So, tell me, who’s the tail and who’s the dog? Do the rest of the Deep State rule at the sufferance of the military?

I’ll bet that given that so much of the military comes from working class whites – the Deplorables – that have gotten so hammered economically, there’s a fair degree of discontent within the military over the lot of the folk back home.

The question, what are we fighting for? To what end? For whose benefit? These men have eyes and ears and active minds. They aren’t automatons no matter that they’re trained to take orders.

And if enough of these Deplorables make it high enough into the officer corp, then there could very well be a problem for the Oligarchs in whose interest the military is meant to serve.

The Oligarchs are the part of the Deep State we tend to forget (or maybe I should speak for myself). For if the Deep State isn’t about protecting and nurturing Oligarch interests, then what is it for? The Billionarios have done preposterously well these last few decades, and they did it with the complicity of Deep State organs and with military enforcement. And arguably to the great detriment of the geo-political position of the US and to the great disadvantage of so many ordinary Americans.

By all appearances the soldier boys have been behaving themselves, taking orders from their civilian masters. How long does this last given the on-going gong show in Washington? Not only that but given the economic dismemberment of so much of the country where so many of the soldier boys come from? When do the generals stop taking orders from civilians and start giving them?

    • DA March 19, 2017 at 9:53 am #

For if the Deep State isn’t about protecting and nurturing Oligarch interests, then what is it for?

Precisely. Not sure how long the generals will sit still for this, but given that the Generals are now overtly politicized too, it might come from a groundswell below that even. Still hard to imagine a complete military takeover at this point, but I can easily imagine a point where the military openly refuses orders and basically tells the civilian leadership to get their shit together or even arrests key DC players and forces a constitutional showdown. That’s been happening the world over for some time now to nations subject to the “deep state”/the “network,” so it’s only a matter of time until it happens here too.

Americans have been propagandized into believing that this sort of thing only happens to other “inferior” countries; but the truth is, this was always the plan for us too if push came to shove, as it apparently is now. Something like the patently absurd debt ceiling showdown might even be enough to set it off, although that would be the very definition of shooting ourselves in the foot. The “debt” is a debt in name only, and only because of the equally patently absurd Federal Reserve Act of 1913, which foolishly consigned our currency to an international cabal of ****** bankers, who have been squeezing the lifeblood out of us ever since. And THAT is not a “conspiracy theory” in any shape manner or form. That’s conspiracy FACT.

    Regarding Merkel’s visit to Washington

Roosevelt, by the way, suggested that Germany be liquidated once and for all, and the rest of the Germans settled around the world, forbidding them to gather more than 10 thousand in one place.

And Stalin said: “The Hitlers come and go, but the German people remain!”

    And he was right!

Although after such a war, Roosevelt’s attitude was more than understandable, and if they had changed opinions, it would have been even more understandable. But … Stalin is Stalin, and Roosevelt is Roosevelt!

It seems more likely that Merkel’s visit to Washington this time had an indirect relationship to Ukraine.

Germany, who killed tens of millions in Russia, destroyed half the country, did not pay the reparations, initiated the disintegration of Yugoslavia, received a reunion with the East Germany from the hands of the USSR as a gift, FOR FREE!!!, provoked with its Euro-association a civil war in Ukraine, signed the security guarantees to Yanukovich, just to break them the next day.

Germany by its support of the neo-Nazis in Ukraine voided all agreements with Gorbachev. Germany problems are much bigger than the Ukrainians and the bill is by order of magnitude longer!

The conclusion that we (Putin and I) made after Ukrainian Maidan – Angela Merkel can not be dealt with, she can not be trusted in anything at all!!!

The Federal Republic of Germany is no more, the power in Germany was captured by people who consider themselves to be heirs of Nazi Germany.

Now the rest of the EU countries have to admit that they are part of the Fourth Reich!

    • FincaInTheMountains March 18, 2017 at 12:00 pm #

Apparently the likes of Merkel sleep and dream of arranging a “little” nuclear conflict between US and Russia to weaken both geopolitical competitors – there are strong circumstantial evidence that it was Germany behind the crash of Malaysian Boeing over Ukraine on 17 July 2014 which almost lead to the nuclear confrontation between America and Russia later that month.

GRAB YOUR WALLET. THEY WANT TO CUT OUT SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE… AND THEY WANT MORE FOR THE MILITARY

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.): “The fact is that until the president and Congress are willing to address the real drivers of our debt, Medicare and Social Security, we will be complicit in shackling future generations with the financial burden of our own lack of discipline. That is not a legacy I want to leave.”

Rep. Steve Womack (R-Ark.): “There have been many attempts made to try to balance the books of the U.S. government on the backs of the discretionary dollar, and we all know that’s a fantasy, because the drivers of the debt are on the mandatory side: Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security.

    • beantownbill. March 18, 2017 at 2:24 pm #

Yeah, but eliminating Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid would tear the country apart by pitting those over, say, 55 versus the rest, and low income people vs. everyone else. Even a significant cut to those benefits would case a lot of unrest and probably violence.

      • janet March 18, 2017 at 3:42 pm #

We have just gotten spoiled. Before Social Security and Medicare we just died sooner. For example, life expectancy in 1920 was 53 years. We can balance the budget if we just take 20 years of life away from the citizens.

Of course, the Constitution says the whole purpose of government is to promote the General Welfare of the people, which means actively encouraging the widespread health, happiness and fortunes all the people living here, not just citizens.

So, maybe the abstract goal of “balancing the budget” is not even constitutional… and not so important.

People should do work that actually benefits others, use there hands to produce infrastructure, use their brains to solve problems instead of dedicating themselves to blowing shit up and killing other human beings.

Well geez Janet, maybe in the utopia of the future, but the warrior has always been with us, and their worth shows, like the police, when your ox is being gored. I’m not sure how you can jump from waxing rhapsodic over their multi-culti-ness and education attainments and then condemn them for being goldbricks. I guess it’s that “large-multitudes thing” or “two-opposing ideas in the mind simultaneously” and all that. Frankly, in my line of work, the people I meet who went through the Navy learned a heck of a lot of very useful stuff, to say nothing of discipline and focus. In terms of payback it beats the heck out of supporting the permanent underclass.

I think we can probably agree that the DOD budget is out of control, like much of government at all levels, and could stand a radical pruning. I have declared unilaterally a moratorium on the words “Deep State” but the revolving door between the defense industry and the military and the Congress (Eisenhower originally included that bunch of neer-do-wells) needs to be abolished. Good luck. Why don’t you put your energy there — or has that not made it to the DNC talking points yet? Did I hear someone say “Russia”?

As for your Trump deplorables 4 and 8 years ago they were your “enlightened ones” who voted for Obama. Even Michael Moore and Donna Brazile acknowledged that.

Somewhere out there is ideological congruence between the Sanders believers and the “deplorables” but the incoherent babble emanating from the Anti-Trumpers has skewed the intellectual space. Or is that skewered? It’s time for dinner. Ciao.

Finc, please say how you know that FDR wanted to scatter all Germans away. == aNanyMouse

There were several plans entertained by the close Roosevelt circle for dealing with Germany: from splitting it into 5-7 different countries to complete annihilation.

    http://vho.org/tr/2004/2/Nordbruch171-180.html

Naturally, given this manner of historical consciousness, the good people – that is, the Allies, and especially the Americans – need to take care that the possibility of influencing world history is taken away from Germans for all time – it must be neutralized.

This neutralization – to be understood literally – could be effected in different ways. One way was the biological extinction of the German people, proposed, for example, by Theodore Nathan Kaufman, president of the American Federation of Peace. He belonged to the circle of Roosevelt’s closest advisors and had direct influence on the decisions of the US President. In 1940, ten months before the US officially entered the Second World War, Kaufman published a book with the title Germany Must Perish. This little book dripping with hatred contains what has come to be known as the Kaufman plan, the scheme by which this Presidential advisor recommended the extermination of 70 million people of the German nation, including women and children, and the distribution of the German Empire among its neighbors.

Out of the three Allies, only Stalin insisted on keeping Germany as a single state.

Stalin said: The Hitlers come and go, but the German people remain!

One of the most demonic figures in our history, many consider the Tsar Ivan the Terrible. However, some special bloodthirstiness of Ivan the Terrible is nothing more than a myth.

Ivan IV was a despotic and cruel ruler, it would be ridiculous to deny this. As was proved by the historian Skrynnikov, who devoted several decades to the study of the reign of Ivan the Terrible, during his reign in Russia, “mass terror” was carried out, during which about 3-4 thousand people were killed. Skrynnikov mentions the fact that many executed people were obviously innocent and, moreover, were brutally tortured.

However, in the same historical era, the “civilized” rulers of European countries – the Spanish kings Charles V and Philip II, King of England Henry VIII and the French King Charles IX – executed hundreds of thousands of people in the most cruel manner.

So, for example, only in the Netherlands, under the rule of Charles V and Philip II, in an era when Ivan the Terrible ruled (from 1547 to 1584), about 100,000 “heretics” were executed or died under the torture.

This is way it has always been throughout human history. Adapt. If you don’t adapt, then you end up feeling as though you have “lost” your country. You end up saying stupid things like: “America is dead.”

American is very much alive and vibrant and diverse. Those who mourn for the past … “the way things used to be” … have just failed to adjust to new realities. As the Buddhists say: “Life is change.” Change with it or feel left out. Your choice. What you don’t get a choice about is the trend toward globalism. What you don’t get a choice about is the trend toward multiculturalism. You try to fight those trends you are going to end up bitter. You are also going to lose. Again, it is your choice.

It’s about time Europe accepted Islam and Muslims as essential part of the continent. They are here to stay. Europe has been home to at least 50 million Muslims, who have enriched the European society in numerous ways. Indeed, Islam has been part of Europe for the past 1,200 years.

Muslims arrived in the continent as early as 711 AD when they conquered Spain and created a society that remains a model of religious harmony. The Muslims ruled Spain for centuries in a period known as the Golden Age of Andalusia where Muslims, Christians and Jews co-existed in peace and created a great civilization that produced great art, architecture and scholarship.

The expansion of Turkey’s Ottoman Empire marked the second phase of Islamic engagement with the continent, which saw millions of indigenous Europeans embrace Islam. The third phase of engagement came with the arrival of thousands of South Asian, Turkish and North African immigrants who provided cheap labor to countries like UK, Germany, France and Belgium.

So it’s not as if this is the first time Europe is opening its doors to Muslims. Islam and the West have co-existed for more than a millennium and there is no need for conflict now. This is possible only when both sides tried to understand, engage and accept each other. Integration is a two-way street.

If instead of viewing Muslims through the lens of security, Europe sincerely try to accommodate them, as Germany, Canada and Greece have done, it would be in the interest of both.

It is truly amazing how much the clan war in the US has become evident in recent months. Spreading beyond the US, the clan’s’ struggle covers all new countries and continents. And even such a careful academic historian as Stephen Cohen openly says that in each country there is now a “party of war” and a “party of peace”, which are connected with each other by a single control center, which, of course, does not exclude that these parties are network structures.

Stephen Cohen, of course, can not say openly that the “party of war” is a party of Clintonoids, and the “party of peace” is, paradoxically, Bushes, first of all, because he will be sued for this, and for the image of Bush-the-Peacekeeper he will be ridiculed.

Indeed, how can you call a peacemaker a person who occupied Iraq?

And the fact that George W. Bush became President when the United States were on the verge of a nuclear war, and it came to reminding Bill Clinton about the presence of Russia’s nuclear triad, coming from Beijing from the mouth of then Russian President Yeltsin, somehow it is not acceptable to remember.

Meanwhile, it was the US-Russia relationship that was and remains the main indicator of the danger of a world war, and the good personal relations between Presidents Putin and Bush may have saved the world from confrontation even more dangerous than what we see in Ukraine and Syria today.

Of course, George W. Bush, too, was not such a dove of peace and would only consider those Russian interests, the list of which Russia would shove into his face with a clenched fist.

But with the clenched fist of Russia’s military might, he would reckon with, knowing full well that the list must be taken, carefully read and the hand that presented the list must be shaken, and would not make hysterics about the presence of force from someone else, except for the US and NATO.

For this is required by US national interests, and the words about Yalta’s “irregularity”, which he said during his tour of Europe, mean still the promise that the current NATO borders would remain the same, and not that the US led by President Bush would refuse to recognize Russia’s zone of influence, outlined at the St. Petersburg forum by the red line of Putin.

Naturally, in Russia, the view that “the US is waging war against us” is gaining more and more weight, and in this case following the principle of “peaceful coexistence “, as the Soviet elite accepted at the time, is at least silly, and in general, simply criminal.

But from the history of Hillary Clinton and the Deep Throat also follows that, to a large extent, the impeachment of President Richard Nixon and the related US abandoning of the policy of Detente – the policy of relaxation of international tension – was more connected with a subjective factor and was not so inevitable.

Of course, the military-strategic advantage that gave the United States a one-sided possession of the technology of multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle (MIRV) was, so to speak, an objective reason for the breakdown of Detente and would somehow affect international policy, even if President Nixon would not resign.

But we should not forget about Roosevelt America, which was a faithful ally of the USSR during the Second World War, and several years of Detente could quite change the atmosphere in the US, to some extent resuscitating this America and healing the wounds that were inflicted on US by the years of McCarthyism, which were, in fact, a Nazi coup in the US, supported by President Truman.

And the point of attack of Senator McCarthy was directed at the US State Department, created by President Roosevelt, and it was this blow that turned it into the current State Department, which was the reason for the crisis of American diplomacy, of which quite openly speak very high-ranking American diplomats.

  64. FincaInTheMountains March 19, 2017 at 9:36 am #

In any case, during the flights of Soyuz-Appolon, which became a symbol of Detente, it was absolutely impossible to imagine the current situation, when practically no one in the US is aware of the role played by the USSR in the defeat of Nazism. And this, in fact, made possible the demonization of Serbs in the era of President Clinton and makes possible the demonization or rather the “Hitlerization” of President Putin, which we see now in the American and European media.

Meanwhile, it was several years in the 1970s that followed Watergate that played their fatal role by allowing the “big money” and the “party of war” to seize control over the educational system and the media through McGraw-Hill, which specializes in publishing university textbooks, at the same time is the owner of the rating agency S&P-500.

And the economic crisis of 2008 revealed the connection of the S&P-500 with the election campaign of Hillary Clinton and the collapse of the banking group Lehman Brothers, Inc. through which the Bush family financed the election campaign of Barack Obama.

As a result, intellectual-university, artistic-jazz America is now an irrational-fanatical enemy of Russia and a social base of Clintonoids, or, if you will, a “party of war” in the United States. These are the “doves” in America.

It is the analysis of university ties that makes it possible to understand how the Clintonoids in the United States managed to build such relations with the bureaucracy (and in fact the ideocracy) of the European Union, that the EU became a merciless critic of Bush’s America during the occupation of Iraq, but unconditionally supported the Clintons during completely irrational bombing of Serbia.

Meanwhile, the development of events in Ukraine has extremely negatively affected illusions about the European Union, which allowed Angela Merkel to hide behind Obama’s for so long and so cleverly hide what made the EU extend sanctions against Russia exactly on June 22.

Therefore, now it makes sense to look at what happened to universities in the US in the early 1970s, as well at relaxation of international tensions during the Nixon era, more closely, as a model for emerging from the current crisis in the conditions of the US clan war.

This will not only avoid the destruction of humanity in the flames of nuclear war, but also build such relations with the US in the case of Detente-2.0, which no Hillary Clinton would be able to spoil so catastrophically by the methods of the Deep Throat.

Undoubtedly, the methods of control over the means of manipulating the public consciousness, including the US education system, must become part of the future treaty on the prevention of nuclear war. And mutual control over school and especially university programs should be executed in no less strict fashion than over the nuclear and missile plants.

    V.,
Another concept that may have a lot to do with willful “compliance” or “collaboration”:

“Once government has total control over every basic aspect of our lives, those within government see no boundaries. Why? Because the burden of self-censorship or even personal responsibility doesn’t lie with the individual any longer. Once the government employee crosses over, stepping into a world where he’s protected by an invisible authority, he is no longer a person who is led by the same morals that guided him before he assumed this position — he’s now a bureaucrat. And as such, he now knows he will no longer have to be accountable for his actions.

What does that have to do with the latest revelations on the CIA? When a lack of personal responsibility meets the always ravaging needs of the monopolistic State, the individual loses any sovereignty he has over his own life. The government worker becomes a thirsty member of the State, always looking for ways to undermine freedom while the so-called private individual becomes just another government enabler under its control.” -Alice Salles

…And the mighty, George W. the lesser, talked all that shit about ‘personal responsibility’ while expanding the bureaucracies and spy agencies on a truly massive scale! (He certainly didn’t convince me that it was for the protection of me and my fellow peons; in fact, quite the opposite.)

Considering this insidious progression of moral decay (or revelations of the absence of morality from the get-go) within bureaucracies, you can guess why I harbor such abhorrence for their toadies and minions.

Yes, Virginia, they also have ‘work’ to do right here on CFN. It’s infuriating; perhaps that’s one of the manipulative ‘positive outcomes’ of continuous baiting. I hope they understand that when the armed edifice of the State can no longer harbor them, there will come a decidedly negative reckoning. Being on the receiving end of extreme vetting could be uncomfortable. Got trust?

yeah, but what are you FOR? community? based on what? being against the right things? that’s not enough. you have to have a great and true ideal. only that is sufficient glue to even have a chance at sustaining a group.

Contrary to what our esteemed host is saying, that the root cause of the current economic crisis is “diminishing energy-return-on-investment”, the real root cause of the current crisis is the inflated “bubble” of virtual speculative money that was blown up during the Clinton era of “Informational Superhighway Project”, and when it became impossible to continue inflating the “Tech Market”, the huge 9th money-wave had to be channeled into the Real Estate which ended with the Crisis of 2008-2009.

After that, with the creation by President Obama of Financial Control as a separate branch of Financial Oligarchy, the current Financial System to combat unjustifiably high risks is operating under the conditions when world and regional banking and financial flows, credit, exchange and currency schemes and manipulations are streamlined and put under total control of merged Financial and Intelligence Bureaucracy.

That deeply depressed the main engine of Capitalism – Free Competition and Free Enterprise and Initiative – after all, why bother when anything you create could be easily taken away using virtual money that Central Banks print into the pockets of thieves and swindlers.

    • aNanyMouse March 19, 2017 at 9:03 pm #

      Striking stuff, Finca.

When you write “Financial Control as a separate branch of Financial Oligarchy… currency schemes and manipulations are streamlined and put under total control of merged Financial and Intelligence Bureaucracy”, is this related to Dodd-Frank, or the Fed, or is it a separate process.
Please explain the process, esp. on how it causes “anything you create could be easily taken away using virtual money.” Are you only talking about currency inflation ruining profit margins, or is there more to it? Is this connected to “multiply by zero”?

When you write about the 9th money-wave, is this the wave-stuff of Ron van Dyke? Where can I learn about the prior 8 waves?

And, to return to Schacht’s 2nd contour, does it relate to Mefo bills?
The Wiki entry about them says that these bills were “convertible into Reichsmark upon demand”. I gather this to mean convertible at a 1-1 ratio. Is that correct?

  67. FincaInTheMountains March 19, 2017 at 11:55 am #

The inflated “bubble” of virtual speculative money makes it absolutely necessary in order to restore the economic health of the United States and the world to “multiply by zero” vast sums of virtual wealth, thus making many current “billionaires” into just a millionaires or, perhaps, just a hundred-thousanders.

The burning question of which outstanding debts and obligations to “multiply by zero” and which to keep, since they truly represent a productive capital, will not be decided by the proverbial “invisible hand of the market”, but by very visible and active political leadership.

May be that explains the intensity of the current Cold Civil War in the United States.

Ozone, you say: “you can guess why I harbor such abhorrence for their toadies and minions…”

    I don’t need to guess.

Yes, like Ted Sandyman, they have work to do. Even here on CFN. But if the Deep State sees fit to deploy such people here maybe they really ARE worried that the sands are shifting under their feet. Well, you know what they say, the pen is mightier than the sword. And maybe they take fright at Jim’s mighty pen.

Which brings us to Trump’s accusation of “wiretapping” or, as a more careful word-smith might claim, “surveillance”. If they do here, if they did it to somebody like Flynn, they’ll for sure do it to Trump. Odd, don’t you think, that there’s no hue and cry to catch and imprison the Flynn leaker. Makes you wonder if this wasn’t the intent – to spy on and leak – the order having been passed down from on-high in the Deep State intelligence hierarchy.

Yes, when the State’s protection dissolves what will they do? You’ve heard the old saying, do not enter the yellow box unless your exit is clear. I wonder if they’ve thought this through. Is their exit clear?

DA, it ain’t “debt” because there’s no intention of ever paying it back and even if the intent existed, the country’s economy is so spavined and the tax base so hollowed out, that there’s no way to do it.

As far as politicization goes, the bureaucracy is politicized (notice the selective treatment of taxpayers by the IRS), the judiciary is likewise (making a mockery of judicial impartiality), so why not the military?

Push come to shove? There’s been pushing and shoving now for a while. The Oligarchs handed to China America’s industrial backbone, thus giving China a massive economic and financial boost in building a competitive military and becoming a global adversary, which China’s immediate neighbors are feeling.

But not only that, such a move de-stabilized the US politically (could you otherwise ever have imagined someone like Trump as President) and gutted the US tax base. Not smart, in fact, in geo-political terms, as stupid as it gets.

So, can you imagine elements of the military sitting there bugged-eyed and disbelieving, watching this play out over the years?

“I hope he tells the vile traitor, German P.M. Angela Merkel” –pequiste

He had better be careful what he says to Merkel since she is above him in both respect and leadership ability. When Barack Hussein Obama revealed that his last phone call as President was to Angela Merkel, reaffirming their alliance and friendship of the last eight years, he wasn’t just saying goodbye. He was handing over his baton. The German Chancellor isn’t just the leader of Europe, she is now the de-facto leader of the free world.

Late stage Capitalism is not conducive to the continued existence of Nations or individual freedom for the masses. Indeed it works very well with Communism for basically the same goals, except for Elite. They’ll keep their individual freedom and Capitalism.

So you want to return to earlier Capitalism? Is that possible? Technically? Economically? And consider the psychological: what does every entrepreneur want? To get big, as big as possible. Another Rockefeller or Carnegie. See the contradiction?

And there is no such Wealth without Leisure. Slack is the White Man’s Tao. Freedom FROM the Machine, a fine servant but a hellishly bad master.

As Huey Long put it, Every Man a King. Or Crowley’s “Every Man and every Woman is a Star. Revolve not around others but become a light unto oneself. The planet Jupiter is destined for this, but it is still lingering in childhood. True Marriage? Twin Stars revolving around each other.

Wow, your delusion is rivaled only by Herr Goebbels. There were many from the Class of ’41 that labored hard and long to fill the defeated German government with Americans and German Patsies to assure that Germany would never rise again. It is documented well in the book “The Class of 41”, read it! Merkel is a patsy and a poor one at that! For a nation that once defeated the Roman Empire and rose to such power through the Arms of Krupp, though demented by Herr Hitler, to be a groveling suck up at the feet of Barry The Kenyan Obastard, goes a long way to prove that the Deutschlanders are Kaput! They have been neutralized, you are simply too uneducated to understand.

“you can guess why I harbor such abhorrence for their toadies and minions…” –ozone

Why are you even bothering with them? They are just doing their job and they are not interfering with yours. Just let them be. Your expression of abhorrence probably gives them satisfaction.

Volodya could be one. We don’t know who is who, but volodya sounds like part of the deep state when he says: “So, can you imagine elements of the military sitting there bugged-eyed and disbelieving, watching this play out over the years? If volodya is part of the deep state, then that comment about the military makes sense.

The German Chancellor isn’t just the leader of Europe, she is now the de-facto leader of the free world.

Not sure about the “free” world, but the leader of the Western Black Project – yes.

Western Black Project – a psycho-historical-cultural foundation of modern days National Socialism, or Nazism, which could be traced few hundred years before the Fourth Crusade.

The level of atrocities of crusaders during the sacking of Orthodox Christian Constantinople exceeded even the atrocities of German Nazi troops during WWII.

The Ottoman Yzlamik conquest of Constantinople in May, 1453 was no picnic either.

        http://www.historytoday.com/judith-herrin/fall-constantinople

And as the muzlyms are wont to do; desecrated the St Sophia and turned it into a mosque. Butchered men, women, children of all ages; enslaved most everyone else and furnished the Yzlamik hordes with a very great prize.

Istanbul – variation of Islambol, “full of islam” by some scholarly accounts.

And a few intentional communities like Galt’s Gulch cannot stop them. Only the Nation Sate in a state of armed readiness (Fascism) has a chance of stopping them and their war against our Culture and Race.

janos, if you are so enamored of fascism, why don’t you find a fascist country to live in? Are there any in existence? Or is fascism just another utopian dream in your head, like the “coming race war”?

    • FincaInTheMountains March 19, 2017 at 5:56 pm #

Janos, for classical Fascism Race is irrelevant, Nation is everything.

      • Janos Skorenzy March 19, 2017 at 7:59 pm #

You’re right. I was just bringing Galt along slowly. A true Nation is the triumph of One people. Thus National Socialism is the caps stone of what Fascism attempts.

Merkel is thrice-elected, a soft-spoken former scientist from East Germany, armed with a doctorate in quantum chemistry, and she doesn’t just carry the weight of Germany and Europe on her shoulders, but that of defending freedom and liberalism across the world.

This is not an attempt to be provocative or exaggerate for effect. Donald Trump cannot claim the mantle of “leading” the free world by default. America’s military might is not the only criteria necessary.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, article in this weekends WSJ states current world oil production is 97 million bpd, about 3 million more bpd than is actually needed,

On the local front, newspaper in NW Connecticut (which is largely rural) sponsored a local history contest in the high schools, winning essayists receiving a small scholarship. There’s been a lot of history made out there, birthplace of the American iron industry, home to at least a half dozen families that spawned Presidents and Generals like Sherman and Mansfield, Shay’s Rebellion, invention of the sewing machine, invention of the process to can milk, meat and vegetables (just off the top of my head) The winning essays: ‘Malcolm X: taking a stand against racism’, ‘Transgenderism in Connecticut’, ‘Why Gandhi Still Matters’, and ‘Gay Patriots’.

This evidently is what public education is all about, gentlemen, more political indoctrination than any kind of real education. Is anybody surprised?
