Fed Cred Dead

T he economy is a two-headed monster. One head is the trade in real goods and real services. The other head is the financialized traffic in swindles and frauds that surrounds banking. There is some deception and overlap about which is which. For instance so-called health care might be perceived as a real service. In fact, it’s a hostage racket, designed to victimize “patients” at their weakest, with a “protection” premium that easily runs to $12,000-a-year for a married couple, even when they aren’t sick, and vulnerable. Just see what happens if you go to an emergency room with an injury that requires six stitches. Next stop: re-po land.

Most of the remaining on-the-ground economy consists of people merely driving their cars absurd distances, burning gasoline, between exquisitely-tuned giant warehouse store operations that were designed to destroy local Main Street trade — and accomplished that, by the way, to the applause of the local citizens whose towns were destroyed (“We want bargain shopping!”).

Now, of course, even WalMart is looking over its shoulder at the collapse of the complex arrangements that allowed it to metastasize across North America like some cancerous fungus. Globalism is winding down as the gargantuan matrix of Ponzi schemes based on owed money dissolves debt by debt. It isn’t long before nobody is a credit-worthy borrower, and no transaction in real goods can be risked unless cash hits the barrelhead — which turns out to be a very awkward way of doing business.

It’s especially like this these days in the so-called “emerging markets” — e.g. places in the world with large populations of willing factory slaves. The traffic in shipping-out containers full of flat screen TVs (or shipping-in the raw materials to make them) won’t work very well without letters-of-credit, which are promises between banks to make sure that the stuff on the receiving end gets paid for. That becomes difficult when national currencies drop 3.5 percent in value one day and then 4 percent another day, and so on. An eight-year-old can figure out how that math works.

My new theory of history applies well to the macro situation: people do what they do because it seems like a good idea at the time.

For instance, a few decades ago, the suburban / “consumer” arrangement of daily life seemed like a good idea. You buy cheap land twenty-seven miles outside what used to be a functioning (now obsolete) city. Build lots and lots of houses out of cheap, shitty materials such as strand-board and vinyl, pave a lot of new roads, line many of them with even shittier strip-mall buildings and Big Box “power centers,” and there you have a wonderful basis for an economy. That was more or less the Ronald Reagan Utopia.

Now it’s all aging badly, fraying, too costly to fix and, increasingly, not worth scraping off the land and replacing with a new cheap, shitty building. The younger generation doesn’t even want to live in that suburban dystopia. They run shrieking from it to Brooklyn, or even downtown Troy, New York, up the Hudson River Valley. Alas, this younger generation has also been broadly victimized by the college loan racket — reinforced by the revised bankruptcy laws that make it impossible to ever write-off this sort of debt. When will they get political about it? Their debt loads will disfigure their lives as surely as a tour of duty in Vietnam would have forty years ago. Perhaps Siri has not informed them about this.

Last week was the watershed for central banking and for the illusion that the current disposition of things has a future. The Federal Reserve blinked on its long-touted Fed funds interest rate hike and chairperson Janet Yellen was left standing naked in the hot glare of her own carbonizing credibility, a pitiful larval creature, still maundering about “the data,” and “the median growth projection,” and other previously-owned figments spun out of the great PhD wonk machine in the Eccles Building.

The Federal Reserve itself is the victim du jour of its own grandiose fatuous fecklessness, in particular the idea that it could play a national economy like a three-button flugelhorn. What seemed like a good idea at the time when Alan Greenspan and then Ben Bernanke stepped into the pilot house now just looks like the fraud of frauds: enabling corporations to borrow ever more money from the future to pretend that their balance sheets are sound. That scam has nowhere left to go, except into the black hole that has been waiting for it. All the Fed really has left is to destroy the value of the dollar (to save it! Just like Vietnam!).

This ought to be an interesting week in the financial markets as the players have had a long, anxious weekend to absorb the death of Fed cred. And October, too. Expect dramatic re-pricing. Sometime a few months down the line, financial markets will present a “relief rally.” Don’t get suckered on that one.

Meanwhile, what remains on the other head of this two-headed economy besides driving to-and-from the Walmart? Pornography? The tattoo industry? Meth and narcotics? Prostitution? Professional sports on the flat screen? Kim and Kanye? Grand theft auto? Do you really think Donald Trump can fix this?

Great quote; I’ve got two more:

“Tell the people a big lie; they will believe a big lie more easily than a small one.” (Hitler)

“My people will swallow a camel but choke on a gnat.(Jesus)

I always liked the Howard Scott quote, “there are two players in the price system suckers and chislers and given half a chance the sucker will be a chisler ” Gotta luv it.

My quote du jour offering is:

“Through overpopulation we have put ourselves in danger of running out of food and water. So a very Faustian choice is upon us: whether to accept our corrosive and risky behavior as the unavoidable price of population and economic growth, or to take stock of ourselves and search for a new environmental ethic.” E O Wilson

This is, of course, the drumbeat from our CFN leader & host Jim Kunstler for years. We must find a new “environmental ethic”.

How badly does the tale end?

    • Neon Vincent September 21, 2015 at 9:38 am #

According to Greer, in a new Dark Age. That’s the bad news. The good news is that he thinks that’s a couple of centuries away, so none of us will see it. In the meantime, we have a presidential election, which leads to an answer to our host’s rhetorical question: Trump won’t be able to fix the situation. In fact, the situation created him, so why would he? As for what we can do, I still recommend we drink heavily to candidates who won’t be president, namely a Flaming Volcano for Bobby Jindal and a brown frothy concoction for Rick Santorum. Bottoms up, although one shouldn’t extend the metaphor too far in the latter case.

  3. Rodster September 21, 2015 at 9:31 am #

JHK’s example of hostage taking protection reminded me of the auto insurance business where your premiums are NOT based on the accidents you’ve had. Nope they’re based primarily on your CREDIT SCORE.

I guess more people have crappy credit than creating car accidents.

    • abbybwood September 21, 2015 at 1:56 pm #

And all this time I thought it was our “zip codes”.

I do have to wonder about the “credit” connection.

I have never had a credit card and when I have applied to rent houses etc. the landlords have always come back scratching their heads saying, “You don’t have bad credit. You have NO credit!”

Yet my car insurance rate is rock bottom on a fairly new car. (Great driving record with no tickets BTW).

      • mastman23 October 3, 2015 at 4:09 am #

Then you are Ping Ponged again by your insurance companies.
You know the ones mandating coverage by LAW. Yes they will charge you more for all insurance is your credit score is the slightest bit off perfect. Driving record that is only used to increase rates mostly. Ever see the questions ? Have you had any moving violations in the last three years? Oligarchs are in full control sipping the froth off your wages profits or whatever then can get

Cue in just in time an article today in the NY Times about the huge growth in barter in Greece as the European banksters freeze their money supply and Tsipras chickened out on leaving the Euro to return to the drachma, their only real alternative:

Peak Oil theorists like Kunstler and the oildrum.com have been predicting this for years…

    • DrGonzo September 21, 2015 at 1:46 pm #

There are any number of explanations for the global economic malaise, but peak oil is not one of them. The world is currently experiencing an oil glut. Gasoline here in Delaware is selling for $2.22 a gallon.

      • Farmer McGregor September 21, 2015 at 2:06 pm #

So, gas prices aren’t down because ALL extraction commodities are down but because there is a glut? Wake up, Doc. Lower prices has far more to do with the current buying power of the dollar in spite of the fact that we are a full decade past the global peak of conventional crude production. As JHK would point out, we are IN THE ZONE of the Long Emergency.

Wishful thinking only prolongs the problem.

      • toktomi September 21, 2015 at 7:49 pm #

First of all, the entire Universe is about ENERGY(!).

Financial pricing issues and supply issues relative to demand are derivative matters only barely associated with the root energy issues.

The Peak Oil Theory – which in my opinion is really about Peak Work – also, has virtually nothing to do with the relativity between supply and demand.

        ………
In a nutshell, Peak Oil occurred when the production [“spell it out for him” – and the productive economic work accomplished from that energy] ceased to grow (peaked) and consequently, the growth-reliant global economy ceased to grow [ie began it’s death spiral].
        ………

Let us hear from another soul who is not shy about broadcasting opinions about matters concerning which she has very little evidence. The last woman standing: “Peak Oil, my ass! I still have a PRI’d tanker of gasoline – more’n I can use for the rest of my life. Shortage – schmortage!”

I would offer that according to the story that I’ve read, peak oil occurred in the neighborhood of 2005 and peak work occurred sometime in the 1970’s. Yes, the global economy became cancerous in the 70’s and it has been dying ever since. The trillionaires rushed in with life support which has become herculean in recent decades, but the prognosis has never changed. A failure to recognize that The End would be long in the rear view mirror had it not been for the extremely creative, genius, grandiose, and evil efforts of the owners of this literally hell-on-earth mess that we call industrial human society is a failure to appreciate exactly what Butch and Sundance failed to recognize, namely that digging a hole and crawling into it is probably the best option at this point as the hole serves either as an effective hiding place or as a final resting place.

“Gasoline here in Delaware is selling for $2.22 a gallon.”
Thank you, DrGonzo, sincerely for the belly laugh – it feels soooo good; dang near drew tears.

        …or so says…

        • DrGonzo September 23, 2015 at 11:41 pm #

          Here’s the latest:

“EIA estimates that global consumption of petroleum and other liquids grew by 1.2 million b/d in 2014, averaging 92.4 million b/d for the year. EIA expects global consumption of petroleum and other liquids to grow by 1.2 million b/d in 2015 and by 1.3 million b/d in 2016.”

That compares to production and consumption in the neighborhood of 85 million b/d a decade ago. You can “belly laugh” all you want, but the data show we’re not at a peak yet.

I’m not arguing against the Peak Oil premise — it is a very real issue that our global leaders need to confront before it bites us in the ass. But we’re simply not there yet. As the data show.

          • seawolf77 September 25, 2015 at 2:35 pm #

While I agree with your premise, I can’t help but think the longer we postpone it, the steeper the decline will be.

          • Iananna September 27, 2015 at 6:48 pm #

Ireland is 1.60 euro per litre which is $6.25 for a US gallon, over $8 for an Imperial (UK) gallon. Enoy your cheep-cheep ‘happy motoring’ whilst ye may.

  5. George September 21, 2015 at 9:38 am #

“Expect dramatic re-pricing.” Reminds me of the first chapter of “Das Kapital” in which Karl belabored to describe “Equivalent Value” ad infinitum. Most of the so-called Equivalent Values have been thrown way out of kilter by excessive market manipulation, chief among them the price of Gold. The Fed’s naked short-selling of gold futures has so thrown off this that gold trading is no longer possible on more and more markets.

From another blog: “The problem is that, when this cesspool of lies, fraud and corruption starts to really implode, we will all wish we were watching the show from another planet.”

“…pave a lot of new roads, line many of them with even shittier strip-mall buildings”… this was also about the vast tribe following the wrong “Moses” – Robert Moses led the faithful into the abyss of highways in the city – degradingly toxic to property values – made of Wonderbread pavement – to become a perpetual jobs program drug that legislators and their Big Trucking, Big Construction lobbies can’t get off.
The overbuilt road racket is literally falling on our heads in the form of aged concrete with re-bar prongs descending from over-passes to our awaiting car roofs and windshields.

    • cbeard September 21, 2015 at 10:34 am #

They could take some lessons in construction from the ancient Egyptians, Mayans, and Romans who built roads and bridges still in use today.

      • russ September 21, 2015 at 1:00 pm #

Yes, they could take such lessons in building for permanence from the ancient civilizations, but they don’t want to. That would be placing engineering over racketeering, and who does that these days?

        • Q. Shtik September 21, 2015 at 1:41 pm #

Has anyone considered that building for permanence isn’t always a good idea? I can think of reasons a 30-50 year life-span strip mall might be the right way to go. Why must everything last as long as The Great Pyramid of Khufu?

          • russ September 21, 2015 at 1:54 pm #

A 30-50 year life strip mall, as a symbol of our times, is a colossal waste of resources – which is also symbolic of our times.

Let’s just keep on squandering, and pretty soon we’ll wind up exactly where we are now.

I can think of reasons why you wouldn’t want a strip mall to last more than 30-50 years – which is really on the long side when you stop to think about strip malls – 5-10 years seems closer to the mark – but the chief reason is you subscribe to the theories that:

            a.) gluttony is good, and

b.) resources are always infinite, ’cause somebody said the Market says so.

Neither of those things is true.

          • Janos Skorenzy September 21, 2015 at 2:04 pm #

Since the only purpose is to make money, why not make them fall apart in five years? Make everything as shoddy and flimsy as possible and everybody benefits, right?

Capitalism, and your Capitalist mind, have come to the end of their tether.

Most of the commercial structures built today have a lifespan average of twenty years. That includes material and structural design. Ask any commercial carpenter & you’ll get the same answer. The fact is, CVS pharmacy, and the rest ,aren’t building for the ages.

    • abbybwood September 21, 2015 at 2:09 pm #

All this really makes me miss the “olden days” of the 1950’s and 1960’s when, in my 5,000 population town in northern Ohio, if we needed maple syrup we drove a few miles out to a local farm and bought a few gallons. Same for eggs.

Vegetables were grown out in the muck at Celeryville (seriously). We had all our dairy delivered by Mr. Lydy once a week kept cool on big blocks of ice in his truck (he used to chip off big chunks for us kids and we’d sit and lick them for quite a spell on hot summer days).

We had a few industries in town to keep folks working, like a printing company and a place that made bicycles. And another place that made surgical gloves.

If you needed your any painting done you called Mr. Doster. TV fixed? There was a go-to guy for that. Broken toaster? Same guy. Automotive repairs? Wrecked car? There was the local guy who took care of it.

And it was a walkable/bikeable town with a local pool for summer swimming and a bike park for family reunions.

Six churches, a police station (where the biggest crimes were the thefts of lawn furniture and bikes now and then), an elementary school, a junior high and a high school.

We had everything we needed and life just seemed to hum along.

When these deranged politicians ask if we are better off now than we were four years ago I can’t help but think that since the 1960’s things have progressively gotten worse politically, economically, environmentally and spiritually.

Where’s “Back to the Future” when we need it? Life just does not seem to be “real” anymore.

      • mastman23 September 21, 2015 at 7:32 pm #

My answer to JHK’s final question, which I’m pretty sure he’d agree with, is no one can fix the mess we’re in as its not really fixable. And the reason, I believe, its not fixable is we are a nation of immature, selfish people governed by the clueless.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, lets add another 100K or even 200K Muslims into the mix and pay full medical, housing and sustenance costs for decades into an existing population that doesn’t want them.

This will all not end well.

    • Paul September 21, 2015 at 10:21 am #

Your second paragraph was written by one of the selfish people described in the first. The moral imperative to help others in distress trumps, yes, ‘Trumps’, every argument to the contrary. Irrespective of whether people are ‘wanted’ or not, we are obliged to care for one another. Everyone has a right to be safe, clean warm, dry and fed. Everyone. And to the extent we fail to see ourselves in the suffering of others, we fail the test. Would you deny me a glass of water?

      • shotho September 21, 2015 at 10:41 am #

I assume you are willing to take into your home a few miserable refugees. If not, then forget about others doing it for you.

        • Greg Knepp September 21, 2015 at 11:17 am #

          Logistics trumps morality every time.

        • abbybwood September 21, 2015 at 2:13 pm #

          I cannot help but wonder.

After the United States and Turkey and Israel rid Syria of it’s people and kill the rest and “get rid” of Assad, will the Syrian refugees have the right to return?

It’s a fair and reasonable question.

      • Frankiti September 21, 2015 at 10:48 am #

Right? You have these “rights”? Welcome to Earth, you are promised one thing upon your first breath; a last one. Nobody and nothing here is entitled to anything. There is no moral imperative. This is a false construct in support of the human sanctity taboo. Humans are not special, there is no sanctity in humanity, and the planet would be exponentially better without humans. Homo Sapiens are not an end, just another branch in a constantly growing tree. When people realize that they all cannot be fed, sheltered and protected, not without further destruction and degradation of the planet, just maybe there will be less of our worst enemy… ourselves.

        • basil September 21, 2015 at 12:59 pm #

right? frankiti, you are absolutely right. i am personally repulsed by those who think every child, every potential child, is an angel from above. if we could just stop worshipping ourselves for a few decades, earth could begin to heal. i have empathy for the desperate people living in squalor throughout the world, but sending cargo planeloads of food, water, and medicine only prolongs their agony by allowing them to breed even more desperate people.

      • djc September 21, 2015 at 10:48 am #

Paul, your response is very well taken but my answer would be why are none of the fellow Muslim States, especially the Gulf Arabs, refusing to take their brethren in?

Isn’t it incumbent that family take of family first and foremost?

I do agree with your premise that we all actually do need to take care of our brothers and sisters and I support aid to those in need but I do not support unregulated immigration when so many of my American brothers and sisters are out of work. This only transfers the misery to our shores.

Thank you again for your response.

      • Pogo September 21, 2015 at 10:49 am #

I do not agree that we are “obliged” to care for one another. While it might be idealistic or virtuous, we certainly are not obliged. And nobody “has a right to be safe, clean, warm, dry and fed”. Those rights are not even in the constitution that I recall. The expectation of those rights leads to sloth and dependency, the very things that has gotten great nations in trouble.

        • orbit7er September 21, 2015 at 1:46 pm #

Humans are a tribal species with our infants born way more dependent than most other species due to the need to allow for the growth of our large brains outside the womb. Without caring for children, who will die without caregivers, humans cannot survive. So humans naturally care for infants, smile at babies and love each other. Unfortunately this beneficial trait to want and love each other which creates children also loved and desired is a problem on an overpopulated planet.
But it is a reality not just some “nice to have”.
Which is why there can be no “Virtue of Selfishness” if humans are to survive…

        • abbybwood September 21, 2015 at 2:25 pm #

It might have helped the situation in the Middle East just a tad had the United States not gone into Iraq illegally and created the failed and hopelessly divided state it now is. ISIS is a cancer bred from the U.S.’s invasion and occupation.

          Same for Libya.

And the fingerprints of revolt against Assad can be found in the U.S. State Department’s and CIA files.

Ditto Yemen where there is now the distinct possibility Saudi Arabia and the United States will be held responsible for MILLIONS of deaths due to starvation. More war crimes? Check.

This all goes back to the interview Gen. Wesley Clark had with Amy Goodman when he declared he visited The Pentagon’s Joint Chiefs office a few weeks after 9/11 and was handed a classified memo by another general that said “the U.S. will be invading and occupying seven countries in five years: Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Lebanon, Libya, Syria and ending with Iran.”

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RC1Mepk_Sw

Vast war crimes were planned at The Pentagon probably twenty years ago and now the world is paying the price for the U.S. plan of “Full Spectrum Dominance”.

All this goes without the mention of our coup in Ukraine right on Russia’s border.

Maybe Rand Paul is right when he says the world would be better off without U.S. militarism world-wide.

200,000 Middle East refugees coming to America? Karma can be a bitch.

I agree that misguided American military intervention made the situation much worse. It also doesn’t help that these societies don’t generally educate and give rights to their women. This leads to unsustainably high birth rates.

A right is something that doesn’t impose an obligation on another person. Who has the responsibility to house, feed and clothe those who are not otherwise housed, fed or clothed?

No, national borders limit both misery and forced compassion (which is no compassion at all obviously). Think of your skin: it lets some things in and some things out, but mostly keeps thing out and therefore keeps you in and you, you. If your skin was scraped off with a straight razor, think you would do well – wide open to infection? You’re not thinking.

I would argue that the main problem is that modern civilization cannot exist without fossil fuels, hence when fossil fuels run out modern civilization will cease to exist.

It is perhaps possible to sustain for a small remnant of the human population, but not one in the billions.

So to me, stupidity of the people is only to blame if it is reasonable to expect that mankind could have had the wisdom to put population growth to a screeching halt. (and in a way that did not involve the creation of a global Police State, providing survival at the expense of human freedom.)

I think it is unrealistic to view that as having been feasible, even if the populace had been very enlightened.

      • cbeard September 21, 2015 at 10:45 am #

I agree overpopulation is Earths biggest problem and has to eventually be dealt with or else. But, I refuse to believe that we couldn’t have a thriving society without fossil fuels. It would just take common sense, appropriate use of current technology, and maybe some new innovations also. Alas, the common sense approach has almost no possibility of happening, therefore it would probably take bloodshed and social catastrophe to come about.

        • Pogo September 21, 2015 at 11:03 am #

You cannot overlook all the things made from fossil energy (coal, oil, natural gas) that make modern existence possible. How long would it take us to miss just one…plastics. Then there are fertilizers, dyes, lubricants, paints, fabrics…the list is very long.

Without the use of fossil fuels, we will truly be back in the stone age. There is no substitute for fossil fuels.

          • seawolf77 September 21, 2015 at 11:24 am #

True. But before they bottled everything in plastic there was glass. Before there were plastic grocery bags there was paper bags. Before Prohibition a lot of people distilled ethanol as fuel for cars. Indeed this explanation for Prohibition is the only one that makes sense i.e. as a ruse for eliminating alcohol as an alternative fuel to gasoline. Model T’s used to have a switch on their carb’s so they could run on alcohol or gasoline with the flip of a switch.

          • russ September 21, 2015 at 1:09 pm #

The trick, which I am sure we will never master, is to view these sources of carbon not as fuels, but as the great building blocks to some excellent products that they can be. Then we would make them last for a long time doing very useful things.

But we will continue to look at them mainly as fuel, and hence doom ourselves.

My grandmother, born in 1888, loved playing Scrabble to improve her mind. As a passionate 1910-20 suffragette and Christian teetotaler, she organized in Birmingham, AL for women’s right to vote to “correct” the problem of careless men who spent the family’s wherewithal on demon rum. Women needed the vote to eliminate alcohol and its evil effects on families. I still like that explanation better than “as a ruse for eliminating alcohol as a…. fuel”.

Nietzsche wrote that our truths were often derivatives of the explanations we prefer….

What measures are we supposed to take to curb overpopulation? China’s one-child policy was considered barbaric – and no one has ever applauded a genocide. When an ethnic group (such as white Americans, or Europeans) stops reproducing at replacement-rate fertility, the rich open the flood gates to massive immigration so they can keep cheap-labor. (The fact that immigrants bring a different culture and cannot readily assimilate into the host country means nothing.)

The “solution” that seems to be in the offing is this – cut the social safety net; automate, outsource, or define-away all jobs; let people die-off. Meanwhile, keep a militarized police force ready to protect places like the Hamptons, Stamford, and Beverly Hills from the hordes of angry dispossessed, should it ever come to that.

We CAN live without fossil fuels – there was science, the humanites, arts and music in the 18th Century before the advent of the coal powered steam engine. But we cannot continue endless Wars, Auto Addiction, electric can openers, leaf blowers, gas lawn mowers and the whole flotsam and jetsam of use it once throw it away consumer society without fossil fuels.
The sooner we realize that and start planning accordingly the better…
The Dutch have concrete plans to power their fully electrified and extensive Rail system with 100% renewable energy from windmills, solar and other renewable energy by 2018. They already use renewable energy for 50%. Of course this is the direct energy consumption to run Rail not build it

Mr. Trump can’t fix the mess that all politicians have made, but who we have allowed to do so by not demanding term limits on all of them. Those who are interested in Trump are voting for a stop to the illegal immigration and the flooding of America with future Democrats who will have no jobs and live off food stamps, but are convinced the Democrats will keep their new way of life alive. Trump stands as a symbol that Americans are sick of crime, gangs, and fake politicians from both sides who lie and are bought-and-paid for by the Chamber of Commerce. Perhaps if the next block of 10,000 “immigrants” from Ethiopia or Syria settled in Saratoga Springs, NY, Mr. Kunstler might decide that Trump is the best alternative to the windbag liars and snakes that make up the Democrats. BTW, it was the Democrats under President Wilson who gave away our real dollar/gold/silver to the company known as the Federal Reserve, and the Democrats who set up the current immigration policies in the 1960s. Unfortunately, stubborn and blind people will continue to vote away their rights until none remain.

What I find fascinating is that Trump supporters seem to believe his wall on the Mexican border can not only be built, but can be made impenetrable. Aside from the fact that the border is 1954 miles long, it would pass though some of the most rugged and desolate land in the hemisphere. To keep people from simply going over or under it, would take thousands of guards working 24/7/365.

That would be a permanent public works project that would have made FDR blush.

Amusingly, there are places in Texas where the existing wall ends because it would have bisect a golf course. I guess the rich believe the illegals will respect their playgrounds.

I agree a wall is not a good working idea. The border should be mined. That combined with mandatory e-verify backed by mandatory minimum sentencing for corporate violators would send them walking back across the border, no arrests needed.

      • russ September 21, 2015 at 1:17 pm #

A wall along the Mexican border is nonsensical. If anybody looked at the areas of the world where the leading numbers of our immigrants are coming from, they would find that the greatest numbers of immigrants in recent years are coming from the Indian subcontinent, west Africa, and east/southeast Asia.

What on earth does a wall along the Mexican border do about that? Any such wall would only be a monument to our stupidity.

      • orbit7er September 21, 2015 at 2:00 pm #

Ironically Mexicans have actually RETURNED to Mexico since the financial crash of 2008 as show in a Pew Research Study:

        http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2015/07/15/what-we-know-about-illegal-immigration-from-mexico/

When construction jobs dried up after the crash many Mexicans working under the table construction jobs went back to Mexico.
So currently this is a solution to a problem we do not have at the moment. Not that there will not be climate and Peak Oil refugees in the future.
But right now a wall is a solution to a nonexistent problem…
        Which will never work anyway…
Desperate people when they have to will find a way around it

      • Janos Skorenzy September 21, 2015 at 2:18 pm #

Obviously any Wall can be breached – without good men, machines, and policies to defend it. But given those, Walls Work. Ask that most practical of peoples, the Israelis. Then ask why so many Jews support that Wall but not one for America. Unless you don’t want to know….

Exactly Barb – everything has to change. We have to stop letting women vote our Civilization away. You all just don’t have it. “It isn’t long before nobody is a credit-worthy borrower, and no transaction in real goods can be risked unless cash hits the barrelhead — which turns out to be a very awkward way of doing business.” -JHK

Likewise, barter is a very awkward way of doing business, especially when the other party to a deal is across the world. That’s why gold has acted as the medium of exchange for 5000 years or so and why gold or a gold-backed paper certificate will eventually replace all the fiat money that exists today.

BTW, did Germany ever get the meager 20% of their gold back from the NY Fed? Last I heard, only about 5 tonnes of about 300 tonnes were shipped. Best of luck to Germany, but I wouldn’t bet that it will happen.

    • pequiste September 21, 2015 at 1:35 pm #

Instead of getting their gold back, the Banksters called Angela Merkel and told her that Germany will take in some MILLIONS of Islamic “migrants” instead. And like it. Sa-laugh-fists indeed.

Couple that expense with the ongoing reparations for the Holocaust and the Germans will be going very broke paying for their new “residents” along with the former ones.

Can anyone say Deutchland ist verschwinden? Greece first however.

The Banksters sing that Frank Sinatra standard with such verve:

“I got the world on a string
      sittin’ on a rainbow…”

    Jim,
This fits with your many rumblings about future economic disaster in the oil biz.

A quote from the Peak Oil Review today……..

“Last week Samson Resources joined a list of oil producers filing for bankruptcy in an effort to get out from under $4 billion it owes to 10,000 creditors. Only four years ago KKR & Co. and a group of other investors spent $7.2 billion in buying Samson. According to Bloomberg, more than half the companies on its list of oil producers have debts totaling 40 percent or more of their value. Bloomberg also says that 400,000 b/d of oil produced by companies in financial trouble is in risk of being shut down.”

A little negative cash flow from the hedge funds…. Wonder which one will be the next FED rescue candidate?

I used to work with “Big Executives” They don’t fix anything. They either cut it off; sell it down the road to someone who can’t compete, put it in mothballs “until the market comes back” and/or say- “You’re fired!” As if its the fault of someone who is- not an executive. The buck stops with the executive so he can stuff it up his rear end until he retires with a golden calf.

“The Federal Reserve itself is the victim du jour of its own grandiose fatuous fecklessness, in particular the idea that it could play a national economy like a three-button flugelhorn.” — JHK

Ha! Another classic Kunstlerism! Piquant tragi-comedy.

“Meanwhile, what remains on the other head of this two-headed economy besides driving to-and-from the Walmart? Pornography? The tattoo industry? Meth and narcotics? Prostitution? Professional sports on the flat screen? Kim and Kanye? Grand theft auto? Do you really think Donald Trump can fix this?” — JHK

Nope, The Donald has always played things by ear, bluster, and bullshittery. As to the rest…. all very good questions. As ‘chipshot’ above has opined, the repossession “industry” will get its chance at greatness, but what happens when they’re done collecting all those quickly depreciating/decomposing ‘assets’? “Say goodnight, Gracie.”

“For instance so-called health care might be perceived as a real service. In fact, it’s a hostage racket, designed to victimize “patients” at their weakest, with a “protection” premium that easily runs to $12,000-a-year for a married couple, even when they aren’t sick, and vulnerable. Just see what happens if you go to an emergency room with an injury that requires six stitches.”

    I completely agree. And I’m a physician.

But what I have wondered about is this: how does it end? That is, what happens to medical care in the near-term, say the next 5-10 years? It’s obviously going to become unaffordable to many, but exactly what will happen to our medical centers (my employer) and to us physicians when this happens?

I BELIEVE I have a pretty clear idea about what will happen in finance, government, the environment, and society as a whole in coming years.

I don’t have much of an idea about what happens to medical-industrial complex.

FWIW – Every now and then, Dan Bednarz, who identifies himself as a public health care professional, writes an article, some of get posted at the “Resilience” site – a site I visit frequently.

He keeps trying to sound the alarm that public health care budgets are on the same chopping block as everything else these days, and tries to get his fellow professionals to imagine a world where their budgets keep getting cut. He is deeply concerned that public health care professionals can’t imagine such cuts occurring within their field – but he says ‘watch out’. How would you head off the next big disease outbreak in such a world?

Here is a link to one such article – out of many – that he has written.

      @ DavidReese & Co.:

“I don’t have much of an idea about what happens to medical-industrial complex.”-dr.

Interestingly, J H K explores this eventuality through the characters Loren and Jasper Copeland in his novels. I’m not an SME but I could suggest a tentative plan, presented sequentially.

      1) Small, ‘back-door’ ‘off-the-grid’ practices remunerated with cash, hard currency or bankable equivalent. . . This already exists to some extent in this country for the simple reason that the current system is disintegrating.

      2) Local clinic-based medicine with practicing physicians supervising small-community health-care workers who extend the local network, operate at their level of competence, educate the populace and maintain community buy-in to fact-based concepts of healthcare, and basic sanitation.

      3) Clinics collaborating with similarly qualified colleagues in other townships to form decentralized but effective regional communities-of-practice and mutual aid.

In J H K’s novels healers come out rather well – if they can adapt. Best of luck with all future projects…

Don’t worry. A few hundred thousand “refugees” or so will be brought in and given money to spend, in no time at all you will see them in a Walmart near you. The ones that get jobs will be signed up for the credit cards and sub-prime auto loans that younger Americans are slowly learning to avoid.
They will also either fill in the over-taxed, “bargain priced” houses in the inner city neighborhoods, and become the big box home improvement retailers’ best customers; or there will be subsidized housing built for them, at great cost, by some connected million or billionaire. Then they will vote for the regime that gave them all this.
There is no end, really, to the number of potential new customers who can be imported, and this will stave off the ‘inevitable’ collapse almost indefinitely.
Even though this can be observed to be happening as we speak, with one’s own eyes, if you mention it you are a racist, xenophobic, conspiracy theorist nutcase, so it is better to be quiet.

‘Planned Parenthood’ Barb? You mean the American version of the National Socialist T-4 program. But not even the Germans thought of selling body parts for a profit, they just wanted to eliminate people they deemed ‘undesirable’.

“Cash on the barrelhead”. Jim, last month the Financial Times of London ran a house editorial advocating the elimination of cash altogether, making all transactions electronic. The reason: curb criminal activity, and make taxation foolproof. Then a few week later there was a similar call on the CNBC website. It seems like there a move out there to round us up and put us on the electronic plantation. There are many people out here who wouldn’t that, believe me.

Also, Jim, this is the 2nd week in a row you’ve hammered Ronald Reagan. Jeez, the guy’s been out of office for 26 years. You might as well be hammering Cal Coolidge or William McKinley for all the relevance Reagan has for what’s going on today.

What makes them think it will go any better this time around? First time around, the Soviet adventure in Afghanistan was the straw that broke its collectivist back. This time around, Syria & the Islamic State may be the straw that breaks Putin’s autocratic back. I can’t believe Putler is falling for this. He must be desperate. With increases like this, Yellen will hit her 2% inflation target in no time.

Hardly. It just means less people will be able to afford it. It’s only for the wealthy. It’s not inflation driven by more money in circulation via higher wages. Wages are stagnant and/or dropping, so higher prices and tighter credit means people (The Unwashed Masses, not The Elite) buy less and beg more.

The Fed’s decision to not raise rates has nothing to do with inflation. It has to do with the global equity markets. Raising interest rates will tank them. As we saw with China’s pseudo stock market meltdown, just the whisper of a possible interest rate hike by The Fed can send tremulous shocks through the global economy. It’s the price of Globalization and Free Trade along with debilitating pollution and rabid and irresponsible exploitation of natural resources.

Gold is no match for this magic act. It may once have been a hedge, but those days are long over and you can’t go back. Your wives and daughters will be worth much more than any nugget of gold when and if it ever comes to that.

Nature’s not dying, just changing. The new jungles will be urban – decayed industrial and burned down ghetto areas. Many creatures thrive in these areas – including two legged predators and parasites like tweakers, whores, and junkies. Also there are raccoons, rats, mice, cats, dogs, coyotes, etc. India has leopards on the outskirts of its huge cities. What more do you want?

Look at the first picture: guy surfing inside a trash filled wave. It’s all good? No, but life moves on. Creatures who can live with trash will survive. Remember that old sci fi movie about the radiation monster who wanted the cute blonde? He died when the rain came “clean”. Sad.

    • BackRowHeckler September 21, 2015 at 5:30 pm #

India also has a problem with wild rabid dogs, rendering the countryside unsafe, and the cities dangerous.

A big problem in Hartford, New Haven and Bridgeport are these feral Pit Bulls released by Puerto Rican Gangs into the streets, after the dogs are no longer good fighters in their staged dog fights, which is their national sport. They roam the streets in packs, these pit bulls, attacking at will anything that moves.

All this in cities that were once the most civilized, prosperous and peaceful in the world.

Puerto Rico must not be allowed to become a State. It must be given its independence and allowed to sink into the poverty, and ignominious squalor it so richly deserve. Riff was right. Instead of cooling them with heaters or paying their heating bill up here, just leave them alone in their jungle paradise which they have turned into a hell.

No, it’s an apt comparison. It doesn’t matter what specific plants make up the bramble of the quagmire, it’s still a quagmire every bit as much as Iraq was a quagmire for America and still is as is Afghanistan. For every Islamic State fighter engaged with and killed by Russian marines, three more will be created by that death to take the fallen comrade’s place. It’s a tried and true formula and Russia and Putin will find out soon enough that a significant presence in that region makes you the de facto enemy and you have no allies who will get your back.

The Kremlin’s goal is not to destroy the ISIS but to reformat it, first with extremely hard force, and then negotiate to transfer its activities from terrorist into the political plane, having an ally in the region.

Putin has something that no one other politician in the modern world does – the experience of the successful pacification of ethnic, national, religious, separatist conflict (Chechnya, Indo-Pakistan conflict that almost went nuclear).

“The Federal Reserve itself is the victim du jour of its own grandiose fatuous fecklessness, in particular the idea that it could play a national economy like a three-button flugelhorn. ”

When the central bank’s “fine tuning” of the economy involves turning a knob to adjust interest rates, and when they’ve had that knob set at “maximum” for 7 years or more, you have to be a bit skeptical of their ability to fine tune the economy.

They have one job, turning that knob, and they haven’t touched it in 7 years. Of course, they’ve held one junket after another discussing whether they ought to adjust that knob. They keep deciding no.

And the big controversy is whether to adjust if from 100% to 99%.

The best-hidden secret sitting right out in the open seems to be the fact that the virtually-interest-free money is only being made available to the very banks that own the Fed. (ditto the other friendly central banks) They have a new excuse every month for why rates are being held at zero, but ask yourself, why would they ever want to raise them? However, the great sucking sound that H.Ross Perot described for jobs fleeing America could as easily apply to funds if a large, responsible-perceived borrower were to offer as little as a 1% return to savers, who, after all, in the college text Economics (Samuelson edition) states that “savings is the engine of investment.”

Trump came out with his position paper on the 2nd Amendment – another masterpiece of logic and clarity just like his immigration paper.

      https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/second-amendment-rights

Do you want America to be great again? Or do you doubt that it ever was? And do you want to see it destroyed for its sins? Or are you against the whole concept of the nation state? Except for Israel perhaps?

One can argue for hours with Liberals only to find they don’t even share the most basic premises about Western Civilization or Civilization at all. How can someone who wants America destroyed debate about what is good for America? Or why talk to someone about our energy future when that person wants to see the human race go extinct?

I don’t know where you stand – you haven’t clarified that. I only know you are insanely angry and critical to the point of malice. One could say the same about me – except I have made my position clear for all who care to know. I’m for the West, especially America. And for the Race who created Western Civilization and America – the White Race. White Jews (a meme I’m seeing more of so I’ll run with it) could have joined and put their shoulder to the wheel but they have chosen to create the Grievance Alliance to overthrow us. Face it, you’re incoherent. And if you are willing to be honest, you will admit where your loyalties lie. Because someone loyal to “humanity” is loyal to no one – except probably themselves. Isn’t this humanity business really code for the Democratic Party? The Jewish people? NPR? The Greens? • Frankiti September 22, 2015 at 5:42 am #

I’ll make sure my misanthropy is concentrated locally.
The point is, there is no utopian future for humanity, for the problem is humanity. Perhaps when the cyborg era begins, or when AI takes root, humanity and its base tendencies will be put in check. People are afraid to bear witness that humanity is a step and not a goal. They are a part and not apart…

I don’t think the Mindless Minions out here in America expect politicians or presidents to fix ANYTHING or they would not continue to elect sellout scum into the positions. I know we are never given choices other than sellout scum. And yes, Americans willingly admit that these dirt bags lie to get into office and continuously thereafter, but they keep voting don’t they? Voting and elections have become sport here in the USA and the “voters” show up at the polls (those few that do) so they can say they voted for “the winner” when it is done. It is a celebrity worship event, a reality show, entertainment at the expense of the dimwitted and it will remain such until it is replaced by Dictatorship or collapse.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see how ISIS does against a professional military organization like Russian Marines. I don’t think they’ll be pushovers like the American trained Iraqi national army.

Hey Tough Guy, were you saying the same thing when the Commies invaded and occupied Afghanistan? Of course you weren’t. You were right there with the rest of the conservative hypocrites taunting and chiding The Reds and cheering for their defeat, whereas now you’re lauding them and cheering for their victory. What’s the difference besides time? A nigger in the White House, that’s the difference. At least according to not a few.

Knock it off. You have no right to use racist memes since as a Non-Racist, you do it so poorly. Remember, Finc wants White Russia submerged into Asia – Muslim, Mongolian, or Siberian Indian, all the same to him. They’re all just bodies – anything as long as it’s not White Christians. He is a good card carrying Communist Jew like his father before him. What’s your excuse?

Oh never mind, it’s not Finc who said. On second thought, Finc might have said it so pretend that he did. Why let the incidentals get in the way of Truth? As Joe Friday might have said, are you going to let the Facts get in the way of THAT?

Remember BRH is full of schaden freud or hurt-joy. A bug eyed queer with no salad on his chest has just been put in charge of the army. This guy is hurting. He wants to see fat little dykes as Seals and leading other special forces units. What he really wants to see is the 300 Spartans crush a huge Persian Gay Pride Army. If Americans can’t be the Spartans anymore, than he’ll get his vicarious salvation via the Russians and Israelis.

The U.S. saw to it that the Taliban were provided with high-tech Stinger missiles to deal with Russian jets and Hind helicopters, and the finest anti-tank weapons, which were critical in turning the tide. It is a little difficult to truly determine who is doing all the aerial bombing in Syria these days, which amounts to yet another undeclared war with an unaccountable budget, but the Russians may be looking for some payback.

  42. Cold N. Holefield September 21, 2015 at 6:13 pm #

You defeat the Islamic State or IS (not ISIS anymore) by not fueling it. Engaging it in combat is fueling it. You deprive it. You starve it. You create an environment that renders it infertile. A metaphorical barren landscape where its seed of destruction cannot grow. Engaging it militarily is giving it fertile soil. It’s giving it a purpose — a locus to center itself on.

Where are the weapons coming from? The Islamic State can’t operate without weapons, money, and all manner of logistical equipment. Deny them that, and refrain from failing states, and the Islamic State will die on the vine. IS is a monster of America’s own creation. It must be destroyed in the exact opposite manner in which it was created.

Big picture? I agree with you, Cold. But that means zero Islamic immigration. As it is, we are bring the War to our own lands now. What Russia would do then? Don’t know. But they are responding now largely to what we have done.

And sadly it is already too late over there since the French army will be majority Muslim in another generation. They’ll have the advanced weaponry then or soon thereafter when they take the State. Ditto the rest of Europe unless people wake up fast.

There’s rapture in a battle, bliss
Upon the brink of the abyss,
And in the raging ocean’s fury,
Midst angry waves and darkness vague,
And in the desert whirlwind’s hurry ,
And in the breeze that brings the Plague.

All, all that threatens us with death,
Hides for the mortal in its depth
    An inexplicable enchantment
    A promise of eternal life!

He’s lucky who in dire moments
Has tasted of these sweet delights.

We sing your praise, long live the Plague!
We do not fear the darkest grave,
We will not shy from your endeavor!
We’ll drink the maiden’s rosy breath
And clang our foaming cups together

And both are filled, perhaps… with death.

Finca said: No one in Russia eats cottage cheese, we eat tvorog and drink kefir

Call it what you want, Finca, but it’s still cottage cheese. Your statement implies you’re still in Russia. And here I thought you were in Spain. Silly me.

The President wakes late and eats shortly after noon. He begins with the simplest of breakfasts. There is always cottage cheese. His cooked portion is always substantial; omelette or occasionally porridge. He likes quails’ eggs. He drinks fruit juice. The food is forever fresh: baskets of his favourites dispatched regularly from the farmland estates of the Patriarch Kirill, Russia’s religious leader.

Most of the commercial structures built today have a lifespan average of twenty years. – Capt Spaulding

    ===============

I don’t know of a single commercial structure built, used, then torn down, all within a 20 year period. Got any support for your statement?

Even at the height of the “Great Recession” (2009?) when strip stores were going out of business in droves those spaces sat empty for months, or even years, but rarely were the structures torn down. Businesses usually rent, not own.

Slowly but surely new hopeful entrepreneurs rented the space. And all that many required was a glass front, 3 cinder block walls, a flat roof, and a mansard front (to make it look like there was something more substantial there than there actually was), not the Taj Mahal. In short, precisely the type of building Jim detests on artistic and architectural grounds. Well, we can’t all afford to hold such high standards.

So much attention here is placed on peak oil and suburban development. The most dangerous action is taking place in the emerging market countries that no one speaks of. This one act of Global destruction is allowed unchecked.

Deforestation the single most threat to the human race. It speeds global warming and reduces watersheds creating deseret land that is useless for short term profit. Removal of forests cuts down the ability of the earth to produce oxygen and remove Co2. We know that homes and shelters can be made without lumber from cut trees why are there no mandates from the global communists to ban deforestation?

In the Southern Hemisphere millions of acres of Rain Forrest are removed to accommodate subsistence farming. These farms die off once the thin layer of minerals are depleted forcing the farmer to deforrest another plot by slash and burn methods to replant crops. This is a non sustainable planet destroying process that must be stopped.

    • Frankiti September 21, 2015 at 9:08 pm #

Nope. Wrong. You described a symptom. Just another symptom. Human overpopulation, it’s devouring its host, and like a cancer it will die with the body. Where I live (medium size southern city) there are two areas that have changed the paradigm of the “neighborhood” around here. Both are 5-6 blocks long with the street lined with small shops. There are very few chain stores – and most are locally owned. Everything from gifts, to clothing stores, restaurants, and small grocers. At the end of each street there is an elementary school and at the other end a middle school and high school. There are churches and and offices too. But on the streets behind these main streets are flourishing middle income homes and town homes. Some are large homes selling for a half million or so but most are modest 3 bedroom, 2 bath homes. Everything is in walking distance. There are also parks, sidewalks and the streets are well lit. People walk everywhere. I don’t live in either of these areas but I wish I did. It’s hard to find an affordable home (for me) because they don’t come up for sale very often. The days of the big box stores are definitely ending. (unless you need an appliance)

Vladimir Putin on September 28 at the UN is preparing to declare that Russia has opened front against international terrorism, and invites all countries affected by it, to join and take real action against this global plague.

The countries that do not go for it, let alone continue to support any terrorist groups (under whatever pretext), will automatically appear to humanity as adepts of terrorism.

This applies primarily to the US and its allies.

The CSTO arrives in Iraq and Syria

The intervention of the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organisation) against terrorism in Iraq and Syria may be the beginning of a world order based on the cooperation and defense of civilian populations, or, on the contrary, a period of East-West confrontation in which the West openly supports terrorism. Contrary to popular belief, this military deployment is aimed less at defending Iraq and the Syrian Arab Republic than the members of the CSTO themselves. It is therefore not negotiable. The debates in the UNO General Assembly and Security Council on the 30th September will reveal the response of Washington and its allies. In any case, nothing will ever be the same.

Hi. I just saw on T.V. where 4 and a half billion was committed by the USA for helping the unfortunate from the Syrian crises. I guess for those in charge of this Charity it is suddenly “do-able”. Where does all this money keep coming from? I’m just a simple taxpaying, voting median income American schmuck who would love to see this kind of generosity flow my kid’s way a teensie bit…. almost 400 dollars a month (insurance) goes from our budget to help her with cancer related tests. I swear to god they always have MORE money for “Concerns” across the damn pond! Are Americans the redheaded stepchild? Every week I go in the grocery store and look at shell shocked middle class consumers wandering around helplessly… looking like a deer in the headlights while looking at the price of meat, eggs ,etc. I saw Chris Christie on T V comment how Americans don’t care about “Carly’s Golden Parachute” and that they cared more about their children’s future. …Well. Someone should tell Mr. Christie that most Americans have got to the point that they don’t believe THEIR children even have a future! Of course Mr. Trump would be my choice at this point ,….we might as well LET HER RIP!!! We are sick of hearing about” the spoiled little darlings ” that all need help that are always catered to by a two party “rope a dope” system. This is why Bernie is popular too. Throw the poor working class a bone of some damn kind! Bernie however, is a one trick pony. Naaa…..Hillery is one fine actress .I am afraid her thinking gets “cloudy” at times. An American Angela Merkal….Oh hell no!!! Bush…Bush light anyone at this point in our history? Oh hell no! Carson panders too much……Carly did mess up a company. I’ll stick with Trump . AND every one I have ever picked would be president (by choice or not) has become president over the last 40 years. Trump has said he would like to make insurance portable at least. He is not an idealist or a wind up doll. By the way… didn’t the Saudie donate a lot of money to Hillery for the campane ?

Iran must not fall and with Iran, Syria can be saved and Iraq neutralized at least once ISIS is crushed.

All of you should be giving massive kudos to the weasel in the White House then, considering the imperative to keep Iran strong as the bulwark in the region. Yet, conservatives have consistently denigrated BHO’s reset with Iran whilst applauding Russia’s cozy, and I would say downright promiscuous, relationship with Syria. Once again, conservatives, like liberals, prove themselves to be contradictory hypocrites.

Keep the bombs and weapons flowing at all costs is the motto on both sides of the same political coin. Besides iEverything, it’s the only productive (or is it destructive?) industry left in The West.

BHO wants Ahmed to make better bombs (the only occupation left for those interested in exploring math & science) for Western weapons’ manufacturers rather than ticking clocks (in lieu of an apple?) for his ungrateful and paranoid teacher. The Middle East, as well known – is a delicate matter. The active involvement of Russia in the Syrian conflict on the side of Bashar al-Assad has already caused a storm of moderate strength: Turkey is dissatisfied, Saudi Arabia tightened up, and Israel probes the waters.

US confused and does not know what to do with the new reality.

Europe secretly hopes that Russian participation will reduce or even eliminate the flow of refugees.

“If the rumors of deliveries of anti-aircraft systems are confirmed, will not clear against whom Russia is going to be friends with Assad – against the ISIS, or against the United States” – says military analyst Alexander Goltz.

I think the expert is disingenuous: we fight with the Islamic state. And a clear message is just being sent to Washington: guys do not meddle. You got your chance, now it’s our time. Russian warships are in mass passing the Bosphorus strait, also not against the ISIS terrorists.

So far, nothing has started. But it is about to begin.

Russia to Build Floating Nuclear Power Plants for Indonesia

Moscow and Jakarta have signed a memorandum of understanding on the construction of high-power and floating nuclear power plants in Indonesia.

In fact, floating nuclear power plants are much safer in the case of a major earthquake than conventional land-based ones. water dampens the shock of any earthquake. and if the station is even a bit off the coast, then there’s no tsunami danger either since a tsunami only forms in very shallow waters. even a 30 meter tsunami from a 9.0 earthquake is merely a wave of 0.5-1 meters a couple km off the coast, which such a platform would hardly notice.

    • Walter B September 22, 2015 at 11:13 am #

Wow, great idea. It’s a good thing that there are no such thing as hurricanes or cyclones or typhoons and that ships and other floating vessels never capsize or sink, eh? Not that adding any more radioactive waste into the Pacific Ocean matters much since most of the marine life there is already dead. As long as the minions of the world have the means to recharge their iPhone and iPads, all is well. It is good that we have priorities don’t you think?

      • FincaInTheMountains September 22, 2015 at 11:25 am #

Remember when all the Russian troops were amassed on the border two years ago, stomping around in the snow? Asoka said Obama had Putin stopped in this tracks. We are agreed. Government sellouts may be adept at fooling enough idiots in order to secure high paying, non-working jobs, but are seemly inept at solving any of the serious problems facing the country or the planet today or in the future. Looks like we are screwed. A shame folks like you or I are not able to be part of the discussions for solutions, eh?

    @JS

Sadly, yes. The current War on Drugs has been even worse(and wars on poverty and terrorism, too). If we could stick with wars on people, nations, and groups instead of addictions, conditions, and tactics we might achieve some clarity of purpose. And you are right, equality is not the goal–it is a partnership of mutual dependency. My father referred to it as “I make all the big decisions and your mother makes all the rest,. Naturally, I have had very few big decisions to make.”

Nietzsche fancied himself a truth teller so we can listen (or not) when he opines on women and Christianity…..

Trump has already reached his zenith (32%) and is now losing popular support. As Bill O’Reilly says: Trump is theater. I expect him to drop out of the race now that he got burned by so many others in the last debate. Trump basically stopped talking during the debate. He cannot debate anything substantial … beyond his sound bites and he doesn’t like being a loser. Just like Walker withdrew after his popular support fell, Trump will withdraw. The Republicans should be nice to him. If he decides to go back on his pledge and runs as a third party candidate, there will be only one clear winner: Bernie Sanders.

At last televised debates, presidential candidates did discuss important topics. Instead of the so-called “issues” – minor things which in the 90s climbed to the top due to the fact that in the age of political correctness traditional political philosophy, both Republican and Democrat, that existed before the collapse of the USSR, was castrated.

Political correctness that was introduced by the Clintons in order to silence all those who could begin to criticize them on their merits, rather than on selected topics they themselves picked out, turned out to be a terrible poison for the political life in the United States.

And Trump’s current popularity is largely due to the fact that he first showed very convincingly in the first debate that political correctness makes it impossible to discuss really important topics.

So political correctness has collapsed, and the establishment of both parties appeared in the position of a “naked kings”. And the last televised debate which was not very politically correct, has identified among the many “issues” two themes that are poised to dominate these elections: the war with ISIS and same-sex marriages.

I must say that the first of these themes in the televised debates has been paid a lot of attention, apparently due to the transfer of Russian military personnel and military equipment to Syria. This issue is perceived by the Americans as part of the standard model, “the good guys on the aircraft against bad guys in the trucks”. And all the candidates agreed that Russia should not interfere with good American guys smashing bad guys from ISIS.

They are not being stopped by the fact that the good guys are just itching to defeat Assad Syria first, unabashed by being de-facto defenders of Islamic State, since it is Assad Syria that is the only power in the Greater Middle East, more or less successfully fighting with IS, together with the armed Kurdish Peshmerga militia, which is now Turkey – the main US ally in the region – is trying to destroy.

This, of course, is mind boggling, but all the candidates for the US presidency, except for two outsiders – Senator Rand Paul and Donald Trump – expressed their support for the plan, according to which, in order to defeat the ISIS, NATO must first destroy those who have been fighting ISIS already without waiting for the “assistance” of NATO. Moreover, presidential candidates exacerbated their position with insults against Russia, which dares to help Assad of Syria against the wishes of the US State Department.

Moreover, the only female candidate Fiorina has promised to refuse any negotiations with Russia, to deploy the 6th US Fleet in the Mediterranean, and start a full-blown cold war, which in the given conditions with a high degree of probability will grow into a hot one.

Debates have shown the presence of a certain sanity from a race leader Donald Trump, who in response to a question about Middle East politics offered that US kept aloof from being entangled there on the basis of agreements with Putin, which he, President Trump, will certainly achieve on the basis of his overall ability to get along with people. In addition, attention is drawn to the position of Senator Rand Paul, who offered pretty much the same.

    TRUMP LOSING IT

“Between 8 p.m. and Tuesday morning, Trump had tweeted or retweeted 20 criticisms of Fox News — and also one woman bemoaning the “lynching” of Trump.

Nor was Trump done. On Tuesday, his campaign released a cease-and-desist letter to the Club For Growth, the first conservative organization to directly hit Trump on policy issues. Accusing the group’s president of libel, Trump’s lawyer threatened “that we will commence a multi-million dollar lawsuit against you personally and your organization.”

That is an unusual level of fury, even by Trump standards. What’s changed? First and foremost, that CNN poll reversed the idea that Trump continues to build on his lead. Second, he had someone to blame for that change: the Club For Growth. Trump hasn’t faced much direct criticism or many real roadblocks over the course of the campaign. Now he does. What’s more, it seems that the public fascination with his campaign is also fading, potentially making it harder for Trump to rely on free media to prop up his presidential bid.”

    GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN IN EIGHT DAYS

WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) set up a contentious battle Tuesday that could shut down the government, offering up a bill that links federal spending with the Republican push to defund Planned Parenthood.

Government funding is all but guaranteed not to pass in time unless McConnell brings forward a clean continuing resolution immediately after the expected defeat of this one. The vote is scheduled to happen Thursday, right after Pope Francis addresses a joint session of Congress.

You wish. Money raised is the only poll that matters. The other polls are used to sell the ultimate candidate. Watch. Those same polls that showed Trump leading will be rigged to show him losing ground and ultimately to his exiting the race. Trump’s been used to get rid of Walker and ultimately other potential outsider populist challengers — truer conservatives who could have challenged Bush if it was a fair race and not rigged. OnceTrump has served his purpose, it’ll be time to tank him in the polls and concomitantly elevate Bush to the top spot. It may take until the beginning of the new year for it to come about, but it will come about.

Bankruptcy is often a sophisticated business strategy, also known as chapter x (can’t remember). You probably know this better than most.

Who has more money, you or Trump? Case closed. The real objection to Trump is how he bullied people who were in the way of his hotels. Remember the old lady who didn’t want to move in Atlantic City? She got legal aid and finally Don had to build around her – a rare victory over big business.

When the people take over, what will be your defense? The French Revolution hated people with blonde hair. Pol Pot hated people with glasses. Marx hated small businessmen. Mao hated professionals. They all hated people with lots of money.

Ravana thought he had it all squared away: he could not be killed inside or outside, nor as long as he was on the Earth, nor by any kind of metal. The Lion God killed him in a doorway, placing him on his lap, and tearing him asunder with his claws.

We’ll get you Q, one way or the other – even if your lawyer is Lucifer himself.

In any case, Sweden as we know it will cease to exist in a few years anyway. This will come as a shock to the BigLibs here who point to the Swedish welfare system as one to emulate and rub our noses in it. Did you see the news out of Afghanistan, powerful tribal Muslims raping young boys under the noses of American soldiers? The Muslim hordes inundating Sweden should find fertile ground for their filthy immoral practices with these feminized boys of Scandinavia, once they take over.

Somebody should tell the Pope, instead of hobnobbing here with the Castros and Obama like its 1960, talking about global warming and income inequality, his entire continent is being overrun by Islam, thousands of Catholic churches are being converted to Mosques, and Christian women and children are being raped and brutalized in Syria and Iraq. Why isn’t he at the Hungarian border, organizing a Christian Army, trying to keep these invaders out?

I guess the Russians did not learn their lesson in Afghanistan. Finca, do you really think the conflict will be confined to Syria? I predict blood will run on the streets of one or more of these cities: Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Kazan, Omsk, Chelyabinsk, Rostov-on-Don, Ufa or Volgograd… like the five bombings took place in Moscow and two other Russian towns during ten days of September 1999. Not that Putin expects retaliation on Russian soil… or cares. But the bombings did stop when Russia capitulated. I predict the attacks on Russian soil will stop when Russia stops messing around in Syria.

“pounding on Trump as you do is completely unnecessary and a waste of your time…Trump will implode all by himself.” — Q

Thanks, Dad. We both have the freedom to choose not to waste any time. I am in agreement with Trump on bringing in immigrants.

Trump is pro-immigrant, a lover of H2B visas.

PALM BEACH (CBSMiami) – Donald Trump has bragged he would be the greatest jobs president God has ever created.

“I am so intent in putting people back to work in this country,” Trump said recently. “Our country can be great again. We have to put people back to work.”

Trump, however, doesn’t need to be elected president to start hiring Americans for jobs now being given to foreigners.

A CBS4 News review of U.S. Labor Department records found that Trump businesses have requested hundreds of visas in recent years claiming they were unable to find Americans willing to do even the most basic tasks.

And that is particularly true at Trump’s famed Palm Beach estate called Mar-A-Lago.

Every year since at least 2008, Mar-A-Lago has requested anywhere from 70 to 90 visas to bring foreign workers into the country as cooks, waiters and housekeepers. The starting pay is between $10 and $12 an hour.

“There are certainly a bunch of people that would love to work at that rate,” said Michael Watson standing outside Career Source, a job placement service that helps businesses find workers.

“I’m pretty sure there are a lot of Americans out there who would work if you give them the opportunity,” added Cassandra McCorkel.

Embedded in the hundreds of thousands of Muslims invading Europe are battalions of dedicated soldiers of Islam, one of their stated missions: burn down the Vatican. Whilst you’re living it up in the US, feted by American lefties, they’re putting their plan in motion in Italy. Is your Swiss Guard prepared? Are they real trained soldiers, or just a ceremonial guard? What’s needed now are men who believe in the West and in Christ, not some half-assed third world, revolutionary ideology rotted in Karl Marx.

A spoonful, or a barrel full, of laughter will help that medicine go down and Trump is just the man to deliver it.

Imagine Trump dining with Putin for the first time. I can hear him now: “Hey Vlad, how’s the cottage cheese?” With that Cheshire Cat grin on his face we’ve all come to love and appreciate. Go Donald! — even though I know Jeb will be the next president.

“Catholicism has grounded my own life. In Catholic teachings, the family is a “domestic church,” and the Catholic faithful are a kind of extended family. The Catholic Church has always bound my own family together.

I don’t LIKE Trump but I’m very glad he’s running.

New York Magazine has an article that says Donald Trump Is Saving Our Democracy:

“Far from destroying our democracy, he’s exposing all its phoniness and corruption in ways as serious as he is not. And changing it in the process.”

This about sums up my feelings on Trump.

What Democracy? There isn ‘t one, or there isn’t any. Just the feigning pretense of such.

As far as exposing the phoniness of the political process, it’s been stark naked for some time now, so I’m not sure how Trump’s exposed anything that wasn’t already in its birthday suit. What he does is add an entertaining dimension to it — something that was lacking. Like putting a scarf and a ten gallon hat on the naked emperor.

Can it get any worse than this?

Yes it can, and it will.

  99. Buck Stud September 24, 2015 at 1:07 am #

“Yeah, Buck, stick to your whittling. ;o)”–Q

Whittling–isn’t that sitting in a front porch rocking chair with a knife and small piece of wood held in the non-whittling hand?

Not what I do. I usually work large pieces of lumber and they are secured to a bench for carving. A lot of carvers are in love with routers to remove background material. But with a large gouge (carving chisel) and a mallet I can remove far more material far faster and far more accurately. Indeed, “oh shit” is a very common refrain from those who use routers and end up plunging on the wrong side of a given line. But the biggest advantage/ benefit of hand carving is two-fold: No obnoxious machine router noise and no machine made saw dust to clog the sinuses and invade the lungs. Just a lot of innocuous wood chips that also make for some good landscaping decoration.

The trick is not to ‘go with the grain’ or avoid going against the grain but simply going across the grain. In that way, grain is marginalized altogether during the stage of developing form. Because nothing rebels as furiously as wood carved with dull tools or poor technique (stone carving is far less technically demanding than wood) .Grappling with grain early in the process reveals the anxious carver too eager to arrive at a finish. But one has to look deeper that surface texture and coax the underlying form to reveal itself. In that regard, the true glyptic artist does not blast full steam ahead with predetermined set-in-stone plan, but instead ‘listens with eyes’ for the material itself to suggest spontaneous alternatives that only the process itself is capable of revealing.

Later on, after form has been developed, and one arrives at the finish stage, then going with the grain makes sense and one can punctuate the developed form with beautiful glistening facets that only a sharp chisel wielded by hand can produce—no sand paper!

US-trained Division 30 rebels ‘betray US and hand weapons over to al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria’

Pentagon-trained rebels are reported to have betrayed US and handed weapons over to Jabhat al-Nusra immediately after entering Syria

Hastily nailed together with kicks and promises anti-Assad coalition is falling apart as a direct result of incorrect targeting and CIA errors. Accurate information can be processed only in the presence of experts, lacking an ideological perception of the world, and with this Langley has a severe deficit. Established there career system pushes to the margins people with non-standard form of thinking, and mass appeal to former Marines to join in predestined failure of analytical intelligence system.

Yes, the entire US government body is run by the loudest buffoons, the Koolaid drinkers who tell the disillusioned ivory tower crowd only just what they want to hear. Some armchair warrior comes up with a heavily flawed, marginally possible *plan* with an imagined pot of gold at the end and any one who even attempts to point out the glaring idiocy is pushed out of the stink tank and the resulting disasters can be papered over by printing more world reserve currency to fund another grand plan and sweep the wreckage under the rug . . . At least for now that is.

Obama fires the ISIS Czar – John Allen

John Allen, the person most responsible for the failure of US and coalition military measures against the Islamic State Caliphate, is planning to step down in November, numerous news organizations reported today. His chief of staff, Karin von Hippel of the State Department, is also quitting to join a British think tank. Allen’s sidekick, Ambassador Brett McGurk, will stay on for the moment in a caretaker capacity, but is also expected to be replaced soon.

Allen’s Phony Air War Against ISIS

Allen must count as one of the greatest modern exponents of the Phony War strategy, the one used by defeatist French generals in June 1940. Allen’s job as ISIS Czar has been to prevent any effective US bombing campaign against the highly vulnerable ISIS concentrations.

Rostislav Ishchenko: There are not enough resources for all

The systemic crisis caused by the depletion of the resource base of Pax Americana, in which the EU had so far enjoyed a privileged position, deprived Brussels opportunity to smooth intra-member contradictions by transferring resources to Europe from the global crypto-colonial periphery.

Now they are not even enough to ensure the sustainability of the US economy. As a result, Washington, previously willing to generously share the loot with Brussels, is already trying to loot its European ally.

Throughout history, the most despicable human beings always attract the adoring masses of asses. Why is the Whore of the Seven Hills allowed into this country? Why has the old queen not been arrested and tried as the leader of a fithy cult of child molesters under the Rico Statues and summarily executed. For 1500 years this pedophile cult has cut a path of murder and torture and perversion through western history. There was Ratzi the Nazi…now its Francie the Nancy. In Canada, they specialized in raping indian kids at their molester schools…..in Ireland they queered crippled kids at their molester schools. nsa, Q–

I take it you are both somewhat anti-Catholic.

Seriously, here are my criticisms of the Church:

      1. It seems the most basic of common sense that those who are opposed to abortion would strongly support contraception.

      2. To reduce or stop the incidence of sexual abuse by priests, why not rescind the rule that priests may not marry or have relations with other consenting adults; while at the same time making it abundantly clear to all concerned that priests accused of sexual abuse will be reported to the civil authorities for investigation and, where warranted, prosecution.

I posted the first of these to Informed Comment this week, and the good professor did not delete it. Thank you, Juan.

More likely, that’s when the Pope issues another apology for the Crusades, and the UN convenes a commission to find out why they hate us (the west). Meanwhile, the last Swede, ghost white, is chased thru Stockholm by bearded men with broadswords, the Parliament building (source for massive transfer payments) is on fire, and the massive state-Lutheran church in city center isn’t looking right, with the cross sawed off, and a crescent moon crudely welded on in its place — Its Year 0, the Day of the Locust is at hand.

Practically all Russian analysts agree that Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), especially its part of establishment of Private Corporate Tribunals to resolve the issues between corporations and European States, is absolutely crucial for economic survival of United States and is in the foundation of current US survival strategy.

For EU that means de-industrialization to provide expanded markets for US manufactures of next technological generation: 3-d Additive Manufacturing, Nano, Cognitive and AI technologies.

Most of analysts agree that current tsunami of migrants to EU is a way to pressure EU into signing the TTIP in beneficial to US corporations way.

However, some analyst, most notably Michael Khazin, categorically disagree that US is behind the migrant crisis.

I, personally, tend to agree with majority on the migrant issue.

  110. dweebus September 24, 2015 at 1:04 pm #

    JHK-

From a purely artistic point of view, you are a master of the metaphor and the simile when skewering TPTB and contemporary culture.

“…in particular the idea that it could play a national economy like a three-button flugelhorn.”

Beautiful! I agree that we are sailing into unknownwaters, where there be dragons. Financial chicanery is just one example.

To the critics of the Papal address: the Princes of the Church of Rome have never been known for their soaring rhetoric. That is not their role. They are products of 2000 years of liturgical tradition. Catholic simply means universal. That is why a Catholic can go to mass in any language, and essentially follow along. It is a rote order of worship.

Secondly, what the Pope did was deliver a bitch-slap to Congress, cloaked in kindness. His doesn’t see reality as you see it, butt sees it through the lens of the Gospels. So the parable of the Good Samaratin does not make allowances for nat’l identity, borders, religion, or skin color. There is no escape clause for xenophobes. Now is this a wise or realistic policy? To the Bishop of Rome, that is irrelevant, because, Christians are commanded to shelter the sojourner.

So maybe folks wanna instigate a reconquest (WWIII), but sadly the Gospels don’t support that position, and the Christ is the foundation upon which the Church is built.

So maybe you think that doesn’t comport with the reality of the Limits to Growth. Cool. No problem. But own it, you are not a Christian because you are not following Christ. Or, if you think you are, you could always…repent.

I say this as a non-Catholic. If you want clarification on the Pope’s messages it is available in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, free for the taking!

That is the message of St. Matthew and it in no way contradicts the Pope’s message. I am not trying to convert you. Believe what you wish, but if you’re gonna quote scripture, put it in context and do your homework.

Purgatory? They are in heaven, having died in the most holy of all holy places exercising their faith. Who says my prayers are to “help the dead”? Some things you believe in, whether or not any observable material change results.

For example, you believe in a flat tax even though your belief is, realistically, not going to result in any change in the tax code. By your own admission nothing will change as a result of your belief. Still, you believe.

Putin is in for a surprise. Putin, as weaker parties do, requested a meeting with the stronger party. Putin wants Obama to ease up on the sanctions that are having their effect on the Russian economy. The surprise will be when Putin receives a double-barreled blast on Ukraine and Putin’s failure to fulfill the Minsk commitments. Putin knows Obama holds the upper hand. Putin knows that Obama is going to punish him by starving off access to western credit. That is why weaker Putin is scared and requested the meeting with the stronger Obama.

Ever wondered how deadbeat, totally broken Western Nations could provide “credit” to other countries with stronger economy, free of debt and with positive trade balance?

I think that the notion of Western “credit” and Western “investors” is grossly overstated. China already did, and Russia will in the near future, drastically lower its banking lending rate and reserve requirements to provide domestically-originated credit to the needs of productive economy.

Obviously, the American sanctions have negative effect on the Russian economy, but their positive consequences far exceed the negative ones: Russia is rapidly going through de-dollarization of its economy and replacement of certain imports with domestic production.

There’s even a name now for pre-1965 United States: Historical America. What this place is called now I don’t care to know.

Incidentally, when we hear each month that “225,000 jobs were created”, what difference does it make when 250,000 people entered the country that same month? Its just a way of lying, with the media going along with it. Same with ‘income inequality’, ignoring the inexhaustible pool of 3rd world labor entering the country every year.

This little-known fact was included in a fabulous profile of Jobs by John Markoff of the New York Times.

What Markoff does not point out is that had our current immigration policies been in place at the time, Jandalie would very likely have never received a visa to come to the United States, and Steve Jobs might never have been born (his birth mother was American, and his parents put him up for adoption). The world would have been a poorer place.”

So, remember this time last year when France suddenly decided that it *didn’t* want to close the biggest intra-European arms-deal in history, and *didn’t* deliver the two Mistral-Class warships Russia paid for?

“Type out for us an approximation of what you said in your prayers for the 717 Muslims who died.” — Q.

For you, and for me, there is no God. The dualistic forms of prayer (petition, intercession, etc.) are out. The elimination of dualistic prayer leaves me with the nondualistic prayer of union, which is nonverbal. It cannot be “typed out” … it is more like a wordless no-mind meditation.

717 Muslims die. Faced with death the poet John Donne said: “Ask not for whom the bell tolls…” Since I know the bell tolls for me, the 717 deaths are a “memento mori” that triggers my form of praying, which is simply being alert and aware. That alertness puts me in a kind of “prayerful” mood, but not one in which words are present. It is a state of silent stillness, beyond mind. … That is my “prayer” in response to 717 Muslim deaths.

You may think prayer without words is bullshit gobbledygook, totally useless… or you may think it is a “waste of time”… whatever. It is what it is.

    ….

    • Q. Shtik September 25, 2015 at 4:59 pm #

      Good answer.

Memento mori is the medieval Latin theory and practice of reflection on mortality, especially as a means of considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits. – Wiki

I reflect on things every waking hour, especially concerning mortality. I just don’t refer to it as prayer.

      • Q. Shtik September 25, 2015 at 5:13 pm #

Yesterday the Pope inadvertently but similarly downgraded the traditional notion of prayer saying:

“I ask you all, please, to pray for me, and if there are among you any who do not believe or cannot pray, I ask you please to send **good wishes** my way.”

Gone, we may assume, is the need for groveling on bended knee.

“Meanwhile, what remains on the other head of this two-headed economy besides driving to-and-from the Walmart? Pornography? The tattoo industry? Meth and narcotics? Prostitution? Professional sports on the flat screen? Kim and Kanye? Grand theft auto? Do you really think Donald Trump can fix this?”

A little vignette. My Daughter-in-law is cross trained in Insurance and Real Estate, having brokerages in both (Pre-2008). Last year, in a major Pacific NW city, she was working as a consultant for one of the largest Insurance Companies in the US. She was sent to failing brokerages ( insurance offices) around the city…her job was to repair/rebuild the particular agency, and train their brokers how to maintain their numbers, increase efficiency, etc. She would spend, sometimes, several months at a site, increasing the sales, organizing the offices for efficiency, evaluating and replacing personnel, as needed. She was paid $22.00 per hour, as a consultant. As her reputation as a “fixer” became known within the company, she was approached by several successful brokers, and offered the job of office manager for their agencies….average offer was $12.00 per hour. A successful broker in this company can easily make low-to-mid 6 figures. Does this represent the value of labor today?

That is why weaker Putin is scared and requested the meeting with the stronger Obama – wpa

Assistant of Russian President Yuri Ushakov during the journalist briefing, where he spoke about the program of scheduled meetings, made comments about abuse of diplomatic etiquette by the representatives of the White House.

Commenting on statements by the White House, assistant to the president criticized the press secretary of the White House Josh Ernest, who on Thursday said that the Kremlin was not only the initiator of the meeting between Vladimir Putin and US President Barack Obama, but that the Russian side allegedly repeatedly made requests for such meeting.

“On September 19 we have received a proposal for the consideration of two specific timeframes of the meeting of the presidents in New York from the US administration and in the end opted for meeting on September 28 at approximately 17:00”, said Russian presidential aide.

The meeting with Obama is the final event in the schedule of the visit to New York on September 28. Vladimir Putin will deliver a speech at the 70th, session of the General Assembly, will meet with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, will attend the luncheon on behalf of the Secretary General in honor of the heads of the delegations present and meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. In addition, he planned a series of short meetings “on the feet” on the sidelines of the session.

Now, of course, even WalMart is looking over its shoulder at the collapse of the complex arrangements that allowed it to metastasize across North America like some cancerous fungus.
    =======================================
Has anyone questioned how a member of the board of directors of WalMart can be seriously considered in the running for nomination as Democratic candidate for president? In 1936 Hillary would have been driven shreiking like a banshee from the party ranks. I mean, not since the days of the Ludlow Massacre has there been a corporation more viciously anti-union than WalMart.

    Who is mister Putin

The KGB and communist party structures of the USSR were directly involved in the collapse of the Empire (former nomenclature of the party has become new post-Soviet elite in many republics, having achieved the transfer of public property into their private hands).

However, in the KGB of the USSR there was one department, from which came many of the leaders of modern Russia – a department of the Foreign Intelligence Service (the rough analog of the CIA). It was a state within a state, and therefore did not fall apart.

It had its own powerful analytical center and selection of the cadres was carried out in the most severe and demanding way. They only get there a certain type of people. One of the main criteria for selection was being faithful to the Motherland and the ability to work independently in a hostile environment, the availability of the analytical mind. These people under the direction of Mr. Primakov were able to seize control of the State.

Only this structure (and partially GRU) was recruiting outside of the Soviet Union, had a psychological portraits and dirt on foreign leaders, a clear understanding of the mechanisms of Western society, the balance of power and the location of decision-making centers, and so on., Which made it possible to raise the Russia from the ashes, and establish order and control in the country and to operate successfully in the international arena.

Behind the President of Russia is a great team of people with vast resources and plenty of candidates who, if need arises, are ready to take the place of unknown colonel Putin.

Study Theravadin Buddhism – it is rational in analysis of man, his enslaved state, and the way to freedom. That’s not to say it’s merely materialistic, since then it wouldn’t be a religion. The Market as God: Living in the New Dispensation

“In days of old, seers entered a trance state and then informed anxious seekers what kind of mood the gods were in, and whether this was an auspicious time to begin a journey, get married, or start a war. The prophets of Israel repaired to the desert and then returned to announce whether Yahweh was feeling benevolent or wrathful. Today The Market’s fickle will is clarified by daily reports from Wall Street and other sensory organs of finance. Thus we can learn on a day-to-day basis that The Market is “apprehensive,” “relieved,” “nervous,” or even at times “jubilant.” On the basis of this revelation awed adepts make critical decisions about whether to buy or sell. Like one of the devouring gods of old, The Market — aptly embodied in a bull or a bear — must be fed and kept happy under all circumstances. True, at times its appetite may seem excessive — a $35 billion bailout here, a $50 billion one there — but the alternative to assuaging its hunger is too terrible to contemplate.

The diviners and seers of The Market’s moods are the high priests of its mysteries. To act against their admonitions is to risk excommunication and possibly damnation. Today, for example, if any government’s policy vexes The Market, those responsible for the irreverence will be made to suffer. That The Market is not at all displeased by downsizing or a growing income gap, or can be gleeful about the expansion of cigarette sales to Asian young people, should not cause anyone to question its ultimate omniscience. Like Calvin’s inscrutable deity, The Market may work in mysterious ways, “hid from our eyes,” but ultimately it knows best.”

The Catholic religion is pure zombie worship filth….there is NO lower limit to the perversion, cruelty, degeneracy of this shitty outfit. Everyone here is familiar with the persecution of the great astronomer and physicist, Galileo, but how many know of the trial and execution of another great scientist, Giordano Bruno. Bruno theorized that the distant stars were actually suns with their own exoplanets and the possibility of life. For this idea, he was arrested by the papal filth, locked up solitary for 7 years, tortured, and burned at the stake. All in the name of their filthy sky god. They have been stealing, raping, looting, molesting, murdering for some 1500 years….is it not time to put them out of business…..permanently?
The clown fag in the beanie should have been arrested at the border and tried under the Rico Statutes as a criminal conspiracy and ongoing criminal organization….and accessory after the fact to child rape. In Ireland, they ran schools for crippled kids that amounted to little more than child brothels….anyone here care to justify queering crippled kids?

      Janos,

Several weeks ago I suggested that you “leave the dark side of the Force”. You asked what is dark about wanting to defend your race.

Posting links to the Daily Stormer is dark. The disclaimer on that website renouncing violence is not effective. The comments section contains frequent remarks such as, “we will see Jews dancing the hangman’s jig”.

The antisemitism of the Stormer is irrational to the point of insanity. Belief in a Jewish conspiracy is insane.

You contribute a wealth of ideas that challenge our thinking. The Stormer is not part of that wealth.

I have just started reading a book which I hope will give me a better understanding of my familiy’s history. That book is Vienna and Its Jews: The Tragedy of Success, 1880s – 1980s.

      Success is not a conspiracy.

I plan to report back on whether the book is worth reading. (My father was born in Vienna in 1911, during the reign of Franz Joseph.)

So threatening violence against Mr Trump isn’t dark? Or as one prominent Jewish writer said, Where is Arthur Bremer when you need him? As you WELL KNOW, there is nothing insane about the idea of Jewish Conspiracy. You breathe (think, plan, coordinate, act) together. How else have you thrived for millennia? As you WELL KNOW, many Jews have admitted that Jews control Hollywood and the Media and have had a huge influence on foreign policy out of all proportion to your numbers (thank God that may be changing a bit).

I admit Jewish ability and IQ. But how much of your success is this, and how much is ethnic nepotism? Jews are massively over represented at Harvard relative to their population, and Whites massively under-represented. Of course Jews magically become White whenever they have to, so this problem is masked – but not to us because we know well that you all don’t like us, respect us, and don’t represent us in any way. Obviously Jews have gotten control over the admissions process and artificially keep Whites down, themselves up. Other groups are managed as well, Blacks up beyond their natural abilities.

Well folks, over in Germany, that Big Hearted Country accepting all comers, according to the Hungarian maybe 35 million are on the move, Oktoberfest in Munich, a 200 year old tradition, is proving problematic with the new Muslim arrivals. All that beer drinking and merrymaking, those lowcropped peasant blouses on young German lasses showing considerable tanned cleavage, let’s just say its un Islamic. Couldn’t it be cancelled, just this year? Out of respect to the Prophet? Next year, we’ll see. Maybe it can be allowed to continue with a few changes, like no beer, and the young German girls in Burkhas, and wrapped up in more canvas material than a tent at the Ringling Bros. circus.

The Swedish National Flag is causing some trouble too, in certain quarters, if you know what I mean. Apparently, that gold cross on a lovely field of blue is making some ‘New Swedes’ feel unwelcome. A different national flag, perhaps green in colour, perhaps with the cross removed, perhaps embellished with a ‘Crescent Moon’, a sword, hell, why not, the image of an AK47, would be more like it. Expect changes soon.

“Thus it believes in life after death, other realms and the beings that inhabit them” — Janos

Thanks for warning me, Janos. With those beliefs I will be sure to stay away from Theravadin Buddhism.

    • Janos Skorenzy September 26, 2015 at 2:47 pm #

Why is that irrational? It only seems so if you think consciousness arises from matter. Buddhism has never affirmed this, though it admits that consciousness is conditioned by matter while associated with the physical body of course.

The Dalai Lama has commented that Buddhism has no real relation or likeness to Atheism, other than both rejecting the idea of God. The philosophical bases are completely different.

      • wpa--ccc September 26, 2015 at 6:23 pm #

First you said Theravadin Buddhism believes in: “life after death, other realms and the beings that inhabit them.” Now you change the goal posts and bring up matter and consciousness.

I will avoid any form of Buddhism with a belief in “life after death, other realms and the beings that inhabit them” … what realms? what beings? what evidence? Are you confusing javana and bhavanga? You seem to have an overactive javana.

Don’t get me wrong – you wont be the same person next time around just as you aren’t the same person you were yesterday, or even just a moment ago. You have changed since you started reading this. To quote the Pali, na ca so na ca anno. The reborn is neither the same person nor another. You are a process. Get it? Are you a Global Citizen? (not just a CFNation citizen) If the answer is yes then you were at the ‘Global Citizen Festival’ in NYC yesterday. Its stated main goal was to “raise awareness of Global Inequality”, and it was free. Many celebrities were in attendance, either as speakers or entertainers: Joe Biden, Michelle Obama, Beyonce, Bill Gates, Stephen Colbert, Katie Holmes, Selma Hayek, Cold Play. Sting, the Queen of Jordan, many more, all the luminaries showed up, the beautiful people, but beautiful people with an exquisite social conscience, too. A special guest was Leo DiCaprio, who flew in on his private 747 to speak about ending the world’s dependence on fossil fuels.

The comic opportunities here are endless.

The festival coincided with the UN Summit convened to fight Global Poverty, and transform the world, which they figure will cost about $5 trillion per year for the next 20 years. Where the annual $5 trillion is coming from isn’t specified. There’s also a lot in there about Gender Equality, Gay Rights, immigrants, refugees, sharing the wealth, minorities, the whole gamut, pretty much what you would expect from meglamaniacs bent on saving the world.

It depends on how you do it. You can oppose nonviolently, with respect, without violating the dignity of others.

Or you can invade the other, label them “filth” and oppose them with violence. Using violence against other human beings is the epitome of evil… and using the excuse that someone whose orders you are obeying told you your murder victims were “legitimate kills” does not excuse the evil.

Not all Jews are bad, wpa. Pam Gellar helped stop the Ground Zero Mosque – a crushing defeat for the Muslim lowlifes who wanted to besmirch the memories of the victims and gloat in triumph.

When Jews do good, I will acknowledge it – even if they do it by accident, or with the real intent of serving themselves. The Talmud teaches not to hurt Gentiles if it will bring negative judgment on the Jews. Thus if a Gentile is down a pit, you can take away the ladder but only if no one sees you do it. The Talmud is full of exalted moral teachings just like this. But of course such things are of little interest to you.

But I think we can all celebrate – This!

U.S. intelligence: Russia will launch attacks in Syria

The airstrikes would be conducted by more than two dozen Russian warplanes that were surreptitiously flown to Syria over the last week.

U.S. officials said the Russian pilots turned off their planes’ transponders to avoid detection, and hid by flying in close formation with Russian AN-124 Condor cargo flights, which used commercial air corridors over Iraq and Iran.

“The jets are ready to strike at any moment,” said a U.S. official, who was not authorized to speak publicly on the intelligence. “There is nothing stopping them from delivering airstrikes at this point.”

The date 09.28.15 – tomorrow – the first full moon of the new 5776 year from the creation of the world under the Jewish calendar with the full moon eclipse, is the day of the beginning of a new world order.

Under the Cosmic foundation countries and nations will be divided by their priorities: some will succeed, others will lose their perspective.

And if the UN summit of 09.28.15 will fail to manifest friendliness and attention to other people’s arguments, the Third World War will destroy those who do not want to adapt to the changes.

    • Janos Skorenzy September 27, 2015 at 4:19 am #

And the Russians will crush any and all Israeli or Zionist initiatives to take down Mr Assad. You have lost this gambit.

      • FincaInTheMountains September 27, 2015 at 4:28 am #

After adapting some of its policies, Israel will be safely transferred under the Russian loving wing. 25% of Israeli citizens are Russians by culture.

The history of Russian-Jewish relationships by far is not easy, but it did produce some amazing cultural and scientific accomplishments.

      • BackRowHeckler September 27, 2015 at 12:25 pm #

I don’t think Israel had much of a problem with Assad, in fact, he kept Syria in check and lent stability to Israel’s NW border. Syria got its ass kicked pretty good back in ’67 and learned its lesson as far as f-kking around with Israel goes.

And don’t forget that the Israeli Army in large part is a creation of Russian military officers of Jewish origin in 50s and early 60s.

Most of the officers with WWII military experience were allowed by Stalin to go to Israel to participate in creation of Israeli defense forces.

Allowed? Delicately put. And you think Stalin was happy about that? That the Race who had lead the Revolution had now lost interest in it and wanted their own State? What about the Brotherhood of Workers and of Man? This was the mentality that lead to the purge. Stalin learned that Jews will seek their own advantage in the end. We need to learn the same thing.

          • BackRowHeckler September 27, 2015 at 5:34 pm #

The German army in WW1 had about 10,000 German and Austrian Jewish officers, as well as almost 100,000 NCOs and enlisted men. I’m not sure if any of them made it into the IDF of the 1940s and 50s, probably some did. The Western Front in WW1, and the Eastern Front in WW2, pretty good school for Army Officers.

Yeah but they do have a problem with Assad – everyone knows that. You’re experiencing cognitive dissonance. Your inner reality doesn’t accord with the facts on the ground. Why and How? Glad you asked: you’re projecting your own rationality and fairness onto them. Big mistake. Same thing Liberals do with Blacks. You don’t do it with Blacks so much, but you do it constantly and massively with Jews and Israel.

          • BackRowHeckler September 27, 2015 at 5:24 pm #

Maybe you’re right about that, Janos, Israel – Syria relations something I don’t know much about. But it seems like Syria and Israel existed side by side for quite a long time, not exactly as bosom buddies, but with no outright open warfare.

It looks to me these Arab middle east countries need a strongman at the helm after all – Nasser, Saddam Hussein, Assad – to hold those places together.

The main riddle of world politics

There is a barely concealed panic in the United States – they do not see Russian fighters.

As in the word “at all”

This is the only explanation for all that nonsense that the media is putting out in response to a question about how Russian fighters happened to be in Syria. And if NATO military radars in Turkey and Bulgaria had not seen their flight, it means that all the air-to-air aims do not see them. And that changes everything. EVERYTHING! The US has no fighter aircraft. As in the word “at all”.

Now want or don’t – become an ally.

Moreover, Americans cannot figure out whether the Israeli radar saw Su-35, flying to Syria.

Israel in response to this question is smiling the same smile that they smile in response to a question of the presence of Israel’s nuclear bomb. But in this particular case, maybe they’re bluffing….

A good gift to the 70th General Assembly.

Here, even the abolition of the Roosevelt-Stalin’s ban on the export of oil could shoot in the wrong direction – it is already clear to everybody that the US “shale oil” is being produced by ISIS in Iraq.

nice to see wonderful muslim culture making inroads in europe, god knows they could use some fresh ideas like the total repression of women, endorsed rape of children and ‘unaccompanied’ women/girls.

plus, now we can all stop any social, scientific, environmental and any other advances and recite the koran all day.

no need for colors either, islam seems to have two or three shades of grey/black to offer.

    isn’t this great, you multiculturalists?

all cultures are equal, how about a fist pump to underscore our equality?

here’s a prophecy that you can count on: the first beheadings, bombings, shootings, poisonings, mass rapes, institution of muslim-only zones, barbaric violence, marriages to 7-year olds, burqua-clad ugly women everywhere and other muslim advances will be witnessed across europe in wonderful multicural displays in massively increasing numbers within 100 days.

i say in increasing numbers, because that’s already the reality in france, holland, belgium and other once-great bastions of Hellenic Western European Civilization.

Oh, what a fall it was, my countrymen! Then you and I and all of us fell down, while bloody treason triumphed.

The American stealth technology is based on the idea of sacrificing aerodynamics in favor of invisibility. That’s only natural – they do not have normal anti-radar coatings. The approach is rotten from the start, as well as the idea of an ablative coating for the space shuttle.

Russians use stealth technology based on “alternative physical principles”, according to Shoigu, the minister of defense.

    Finca,

Putin is going to speak at the UN tomorrow. Let me know, from the perspective of someone who understands the Russian language, if you would consider him to be a great orator, as people who understood German believed Hitler to be, including Wm. Shirer, author of Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.

We were discussing Syria – Israel; just a few hours ago Israel launched an air raid into Syria in response to several Syrian missiles which fell in the Golan Heights (which Syria claims was an accident)

i read ISIS has declared war on the Taliban in Afghanistan. I’d like to find somewhere listed just who the combatants are in the ME and Central Asia, and who is allies with who. Are Hamas and Hezbollah aligned with ISIS? Are the Kurds fighting both Turkey and ISIS, yet Turkey and ISIS are at odds as well? Russia and Iran back Assad, are enemies of ISIS, but also against the moderate Arab groups trying to bring down Assad we support. Who is SArabia backing, and why is it bombing Yemen day after day. Is ISIS aligned with rebels in Yemen, and does ISIS pose a threat to SArabia. Where does Libya fit into all this? Is this basically an intericine Arab/Persian conflict, Sunni vs Shia?

Is it an “all against all” Hobbsean Leviathan nightmare, with no good ending?

One thing I’ve learned in the past few years from the way Christians and Yazides in Syria and Iraq have been abandoned and left to their fate, murdered, raped and brutalized, is that when the shit hits the fan, you’re pretty much on you own, there is no help. The Pope could have said a few words about what’s happened to ME Christians, some who still speak Aramiac, the language of Jesus, at the hands of ISIS during his UN speech; he said nothing. Not to single out the Catholics, in my own Congregational Church two big items on the agenda: inviting a Muslim from the local Mosque to give a sermon, and celebrating the gay marriage decision.

For me, that pretty much says it all.

What seems kind of dangerous is that you have Russian, French and American aircraft, armed to the teeth, operating in the same small airspace. Anything can happen, and probably will.

War as a way to “reset” debts

There is a simplified, but nevertheless accurate, interpretation of why Washington may need a third world war. This is a “financial” version adapted to an atheistic consciousness of the ruling circles of the West.

This war aims to “reset” those astronomical debts that United States (as well as banks of Wall Street and the City of London) has accumulated, indebted to all mankind.

The Russian position is pretty straightforward. According to UN charter, the only way to military intervene into the affairs of other country, is either through Security Council Resolution or by the request of existing legitimate government – which is Assad regime in Syria.

All other militant groups, either ISIS or “moderate Arab groups trying to bring down Assad” are illegitimate terrorist organizations that needs to be eliminated, unless they are willing to take their struggle into political plane as any normal opposition must do.

If America is so hell-bend on breaking the established after the WWII international law and order by starting another war, Mr.Q will be forced to watch that war not on the screen of his luxurious big-screen TV, but through the windows of his living room.

The word to describe the combatants in the Middle East and Northern Africa is Fungible. It’s a strict Western mindset that compels you to lock in combatant designations and hold dear to inadequate definitions and descriptions even though it’s inappropriate and inaccurate.
