JHK’s Three-Act Play
T he legacy mainstream media has a collective brain like dog’s — it exists in an eternal present, so that whatever’s happening right now is all there is. Thus, Hillary’s performance in the first Democratic debate, being as bad but not worse than her competitors’, means she has a lock on the nomination for president. The better part of a year lies between now and the convention, and time would be on the side of whatever force or figure rises to oppose the woman whose “turn” in power rides a myth of inevitability.
What perhaps ought to be more alarming is the way that the two major parties are lining up to be a men’s party and a woman’s party, a perfect acting-out of psychological archetypes in a society churning out millions of lost souls year-by-year. The American people apparently want a Daddy to fix all the broken systems and they want a Mommy to reassure them that everything will be all right. Hillary, of course, wants to be both, but her problem is that a lot of voters won’t accept her as either.
Her record doesn’t suggest she’s much good at fixing anything. That’s why the Benghazi affair is such a good stick to beat on her with. That was a moment when America needed a Daddy with a toilet plunger or a screw gun and all they got were cables from the home office saying everything was going to be all right. Mommy couldn’t save the Ambassador to Libya and three other Americans slaughtered there. The big pretense, of course, is the idea that congress holds hearings “so something like this will never happen again.”
It’s an interesting neurosis we’ve developed since the heyday of the assassinations in the late 1960s, this continuing promise to abolish the unforeseeable. Of course new atrocities happen all the time despite these ritual committee inquiries — these days, the mass murder of strangers is more in fashion than targeted political slayings — and there’s always another incident, and it ought to be obvious by now that we’re not so good at making sure that bad things don’t happen.
But that’s the Republican-controlled Benghazi Committee’s mission: to demonstrate that Mommy can’t fix stuff. It will be easily left to Hillary herself to prove that she’s not much good in the Mommy role either — reassuring the multitudes that everything’s going to be all right. Instead, Hillary falls back on an obsessive-compulsive pander tic, kind of an incessant hash-tag jabber of promises to the familiar cast of supplicants. Give it twelve months and see how sick of it the voters will get.
To see how much the Democrats have become the woman’s party, just consider the men candidates up on the debate stage: all pitiful archetypes. Bernie Sanders plays the meshugganah grandpa role reserved, on the screen, for Larry David or Alan Arkin. He’s always worked up about something that nobody else can really get worked up about, always raising his voice and stabbing his finger in the air in imitation of Yahweh. There’s Jim Webb, a bobblehead rattling off long legalistic disquisitions that never get to whether he can fix something or not. There’s Martin O’Malley, known primarily for his “six-pack” and “guns,” but with the persona of a frightened seven-year-old who doesn’t want to rile the teacher. And Lincoln Chaffee, a dizzy neighbor like Kramer in Seinfeld, butting in with cockamamie schemes that demonstrate he can’t fix anything.
Is it not amazing that the Democratic Party could not grudge up one figure really worth taking seriously? To me, this is truly symptomatic of how bereft of significance the party is? I’m not so sure the party will survive this election cycle. But the disorder across the gradient is equally impressive. The large Republican field of professional politician candidates is held in such bad odor as far as being able to fix anything, that the sinister clown Trump is able to put over his idiotic act of being a Daddy who can fix everything and anything, just by blustering. I suspect he’ll wear out his welcome — but if he doesn’t the Grand Old Party is showing serious signs of a serious crack-up.
Whoever get elected inn 2016 is going to face a crisis every bit as terrible as the crisis of 1860, only this time when the country blows it could come from a dozen different directions and be a lot harder to fix than the secession of Dixieland.

The Fed has been engaged in so much naked short-selling of gold and silver to prop up the Dollar of lte that gold and silver trading has been suspended at more and more exchanges.
Somebody (not quite sure who) is short-selling petroleum futures while others (the Saudis?) have ramped up production to flood the market to lower prices.
Some suspect that short-selling of petroleum futures is being done to hurt the Russian economy. Clearly the Russian economy isn’t doing well but not so much as to deter Putin in his bid to reverse the Neocon promulgated chaos in the Middle East.
Others suspect that the Saudis are behind this in a bid to derail the shale oil and with it the myth of US energy independence. Whoever’s behind this, it’s clearly working!

But the calamity will not be his fault. I agree with Nicole Foss that whoever wins in 2016 will be the next Herbert Hoover. They will be blamed for the biggest collapse in American history just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Sanders is the only one I can see voting for. Even though he is parroting the insane establishment line on foreign policy and military issues, he is the only candidate calling out the emperor’s nudity on unsustainable economic inequality. I completely disagree with JHK on his view that Sanders is “always worked up about something that nobody else can really get worked up about.” Anyone with two brain cells to rub together should be concerned with the corruption of politics by big money and Wall Street’s endless scams and undo influence over Congress and the White House. From reading JHK’s other writing, I am befuddled by his dismissal of Bernie’s appeal as “something that nobody else can really get worked up about.” Sanders has received more individual contributions than any candidate in history, so clearly Mr. Kunstler’s assessment is ludicrous on its face.
I find his dismissal of the rest of the field also off the mark, although I also dismiss them for different reasons.
But his analysis of Hillary’s attempt to position herself as both mommy and daddy and why that might fail…, well, that’s the type of insight that keeps me addicted to this website. Also, his description of Trump and his ludicrous “daddy” appeal is classic Kunstler gold.
So to sum up my review (as if anyone cares): Not his best work, yet still some good stuff there.
Also, although I don’t think Rand Paul ever had a snowball’s chance in hell of getting the GOP nomination, I do believe I might vote for Rand Paul if he were running against Hillary. I won’t vote for Hillary regardless. I’ll write in Jill Stein.

Well said, No1 Kiwi. Bernie is the only candidate in either field who has a handle on what’s really going on and has a strategy to make real change. In fact, he’s really only promulgating the policies of the ’50s & ’60s, the decades when the USA was truly forged ahead. they were socialist policies in all but name. Now, the greatest component of ‘welfare’ is ;’corporate’, as you point out.
Bernie may not have a snowball’s chance in the end, but you’d hope that Hilary will at least be forced to take on the most resonant of his views.

The fact is that, in a democracy like ours, we can do and have almost anything we want, so long as we can pay for it. The problem is a combination of people who want what they want, and do not want to pay. Republicans want wars, salvation for banks, farm subsidies for big ag, free shit for rich dudes and dudesses and the like. Poor people want free shit for themselves, and they don’t pay for anything ’cause they ain’t workin’ nowadays. Though they would be okay with paying taxes if they had jobs, mostly.
What we need is a balanced budget amendment that prohibits national debt (and pays of existing debt), and makes every spending bill a taxing bill. Figure what it costs to live (minimum for rent, food, clothing, transportation to work, medical, etc.), and set that as base with no tax; next brackets computed based on what total reported income (include all capital gains, etc., no fudging) and divide into 3 brackets. First bracket same amount as poverty is level one tax; second bracket at 2 x sum of zero plus first bracket; third bracket for all income above that. Apply figures of national income vs. expense, and the rates are mathematical.
Oh, and at the same time 1) undo Citizens United; 2) give the President line item veto power; or 2) forbid non-related riders on legislative measures; and 3) national, rational usury laws!
But that would be rational. So, it is a dream.
And so to sleep.

We are in the midst of a great sea change. There is always change. The industrialized world is entering a period of entropy and passing out of a very short period of unprecedented fossil fuel based growth and technological marvel. This period like all periods will be a part of history and it will be remembered long as a truly unique and memorable period of greatness when people drove far, fast and flew high with instant communications at their fingertips. There will be many periods to be had with their ups and downs and natural and political variances. The world is certainly not ending but changing. Changing into a much larger, less populated world with everything localized. And possibly, even civilized.

Trump unveiled a tax plan that is orders of magnitude more beneficial to the middle class than what we now have, while fairly taxing hedge funds and other special interests that now get off free, and stops the double taxation of offshore corporate profits that will bring trillions of investment capital back. Trump want to stop the kind of illegal immigration that plagues the US with enormous waves of crime, drugs and welfare dependency, while expediting entry to law-abiding people who can contribute positively. This makes him a sinister clown?
Perhaps Kunstler is pissed off because Trump does not advocate return to a primitive, medieval society that lacks electricity, antibiotics or modern conveniences, like what he champions in his made by hand fantasies. (actually I enjoy his books and writing, but get real–never gonna happen)

From the outside (Canada), it seems like pieces of the GOP are already shaking loose again, held in place for the last five or six years by the stalwart mainstream Republicans with something to gain from keeping things together. I imagine the breakup (or breakdown) of the Democratic Party being much more amorphous, and sudden, if that makes sense. If the Democratic support scatters like dandelion seeds, there doesn’t seem to be the angry determination to keep things cobbled together as has been done in the GOP.
That said, and as you have mentioned repeatedly, the children have been at the helm of the GOP for long enough now that they’ve managed to guide the ship on to the rocks. It turns out that they could care less that it cracks up, because it turns out that they were anti-boat all along.
Off to vote, being as it’s election day here in Canada. We have our own monsters to slay….

Rather than “We coast until it stops”, I think we’ll soon hit a gargantuan pothole. Mediocrity will indeed end, not with a whimper but with a bang.
That is a good point, and one that it is very hard to make people realize. I would add to your list probably the majority of the “helping” agencies, what do they call them now NGOs or not-for-profits? If we started any real reform or attempted to actually do something about ‘inequality’, the dead wood would be competing with ordinary Americans who still know how to do something useful, for the tiny supply of real jobs left over.
Look at a place like Schenectady, they have way more “helpers” than helpees, and no one asks for any results.
Health “care”, don’t even get me started. Hundreds of dollars every month, per American, and it’s all geared around making sure nobody comes into contact with an actual doctor if it can be helped. I’ve noticed that those minute clinic type places, at least in our area, are located where no low-income person is likely to present herself.
Why are expensive colleges tax-exempt anyway? I know, some of them pay a PILOT, but they don’t have to pay anything and most don’t. Another area where nobody has to show any results.
I can assure you that from 11 time zones away (Indonesia) it looks more and more peculiar. Unpredictable, resentful, alarming. American media keep clucking happily along on a parallel universe, compounding the confounding.
While I rather like the notion of a gender-based political system, at least as a simplified model, personally I think that the new fault lines are falling a different way.
For years, it’s been pretty obvious that there’s a build-up in pressure between those who feel strongly in favor of traditional Western culture (and there’s a strong racial component here) and those who don’t. I’m not sure what drives the second group, but they certainly have a shared religion.
The truth is, given a functional and homogeneous group of people, public policy almost doesn’t matter. If you swept up a bunch of Swiss and stuck them in Arizona or Nigeria, the trash would get picked up, jobs would come into being, crime would be low. Whether they had a King or Congress, gun control or Federal Reserve, single payer health care, etc. wouldn’t really matter on a practical level.
Given the current huge wealth gradient, portability of people, and ruling and chattering classes made up of the second group, the upcoming drama will come from movement of people, not a nefarious plot against gold or fights over Obamacare.
Your post made me think of a program I saw on PBS, about a neighborhood of Southeast Asians in New Orleand after Katrina, and how they monitored conditions post-storm themselves, and thus were saved from the rising water.

Given the lack of historical record, defining a pre-Columbian Haiti might be a bit speculative. If you feel strongly that it was looked like a giant tiki bar with unicorns, then I say go with the feeling.

Can we understand that since Vietnam the USA spent tens of TRILLIONS of dollars on defense spending including air defense, intel and the like, and four passenger jets get hijacked at the same time by a motley crew of Saudi jihadis leading to the largest casualty attack on America…..ever.
At no time does anyone mention the bald fact that John Ellis Bush’s father, H.G.W. Bush, 41st president of the U.S.of A., got America so deeply involved in Iraq that we have been there militarily for 25 God-damned years.
And nothing is going to change the dynamic simply because whether it be Hillary or John Ellis both would do the same because it’s her or his turn and the “Family” wants something done.

I think Trump is accurate in his attack. It happened on W’s watch. Period. By definition he did not keep us safe.
I wanted to punch Jeb for that “kept us safe” remark. That’s his brother’s horrible legacy, anything is permissible in the interest of “safety”, all rights and freedom can be suspended, and the people WANT it.

Good observations, perquiste, but I think G.H.W. Bush (aka Bush I) deepened our complex relations with Saudi Arabia far more than with Iraq. Read “House of Bush, House of Saud”.
The relationship with KSA was so close that Prince Bandar bin Sultan, ambassador to US for several decades, was affectionately called Bandar Bush. Could this have colored G.W. Bush’s reaction to security briefings that warned loudly that Al Queda was determined to attack? And why are the security briefings prior to August 6, 2001 still classified? I would also recommend Gerald Posner’s “Secrets of the Kingdom”. He details how going back to 1932 the House of Saud made a pack with the Wahhabi Islamic sect which ultimately led to the Saudis funding the spread of radical Islam around the world.
High on my “worry list” is what KSA will do when the two Shite nations on east and west (Syria and Iran) decide to attack. It is well known that KSA has a “deadman switch” that will blow all the oil wells, refineries, terminals, etc. to…well…kingdom come.

Endless whining about the inadequacy of the democratic party. This eternal present I’ve no desire to be a part of. The two political parties of record have nothing to offer man, beast nor dog. It is time to look elsewhere for answers. The democratic party has none. All the kings horses and all the kings men can’t put the egg of democracy back into the democratic party. The party has been fully co-opted by the corporate system and this is now one party where it will be of no ones benefit to be the last to leave.
This dog dreams of a future better than the present but my dream is not eternal. Loud noises wake me up and snap be back to reality.

There is a better way to make a statement than not voting. It is to vote for a 3rd Party. If a 3rd party gets a significant vote, it will scare the bejesus out of the Big Two. If we have any chance at all in the future, it will have to come from a 3rd party. Or multiple 3rd parties.
Voting for a 3rd party won’t work because the political system has failed. The two party system along with the MSM will make sure a 3rd party will never be more than an insignificant player.

Because both major parties have become total corporate whores I refuse to vote for anyone in them.
But rather than just stay home I think the better move would be to get an absentee ballot (or a paper ballot from the precinct) and to vote for all the other issues that are important then leave the president vote blank and write on the paper ballot regarding the presidential vote: NO CONFIDENCE.
This way, if enough Americans did this, the “under vote” for president could be reflected statistically as if “None of the Above” had been on the ballot.
It would be a protest vote stating that we are refusing to “Go along to get along” with their war crimes, illegal surveillance, environmental pollution via fracking, coddling the too big to fail banking industry, prosecuting whistle blowers and on and on and on.

Abortion is a distraction. Republicans don’t give a good healthy crap whether any abortion bill passes, so long as it is flawed sufficiently that the courts are required to strike it down. If they really meant what they said, they would give us a bill that protects the mother’s life, recognizes when life begins as something that is scientifically definable (absolutely against Republican ideology) like when brain activity begins, and get on with life. But since they need the abortion issue, they pass laws that do not cover either important legal point and then blame the courts. It is their fault. And abortion is not something that is going to destroy the nation. Nor is gun control, or gay marriage.
And, the democrats are as bad. Both parties need distractions or someone – more like everyone – would kick their sorry asses out of office and put in an adult.

What all the pundits, strategists, and political experts seem to be overlooking is the declining influence of TV and increasing influence of the internet and social media. Especially among 18-30 yr olds, who can determine the election if they turn out in force. Bernie is resonating w them and doesn’t need to match Hillary’ money since social media is all but free (at least far cheaper than TV advertising).
I’ve been wondering whether those in charge of the D party are trying to get a brokered convention. It looks like the Rs are for certain. The Repugilcans nominate first, and with a brokered convention they can pick Jeb! if Hillary is already guaranteed the D nomination.
If the D’s have a brokered convention, and the R’s do NOT nominate Jeb! (most likely if Hillary doesn’t have a lock), then the D’s can still switch to someone else. Hillary cannot win, and I think the money people know it.
My prediction, as if it mattered, is that this will come to pass… There will be no clear winner in either party, Jeb! won’t be nominated, Hillary won’t be nominated. No prediction as to alternative!

He has a solid record as governor of Maryland to point to and he showed his toughness as mayor of Baltimore. I know he gets slammed for his stewardship of that city, but he did the best possible job running a big city in a country with a national government that doesn’t value big cities. Having a former big-city mayor as President would be a plus, because until we get a President who understands the cities and their value, no mayor of Baltimore is ever going to succeed in trying to turn the place into Paris-On-the-Patapsco! It’s too bad that Marylanders didn’t appreciate Governor O’Malley’s progressive agenda and replaced him with a suburban developer named Larry Hogan – who’s inexplicably popular in Maryland right now. Oh yeah, he canceled a proposed light-rail line.

One thing I’m noticing is how families degenerate thru succeeding generations, not only with people i personally know, but with prominent and accomplished families as well, entropy writ both large and small. For example, locally, a prominent attorney and politician whose grandson recently died on the streets of Hartford of a drug overdose, a doctor’s son beat to death in the Bronx a few years back in a drug deal gone bad, the sons of a prominent businessman all hanging around town drunk and raising hell, going nowhere, the daughter of a high ranking army officer in and out of rehab and her own son in a mental institution … I could go on and on, not only is the country falling apart but individual families are falling apart, too. How is it that Mark Twain’s only granddaughter committed suicide in Hollywood with a homemade cocktail of pills and booze, Lincoln’s great grandkids were basically unemployed lifetime losers, and President Arthur’s grandson ended up selling newspapers on the streets of San Francisco? I see young people on the streets, all tatted up, with nose rings, looking wired and wierd, and think, these are descendants of men who fought at Antietam and Normandy, how did it come to this?

He gave a short speech and made $100,000 for his efforts. Tom Dodd was kicked out of the Senate and indicted in the 1960’s. His son Chris Dodd, who presented the award, was a ‘friend of Angelo’, and should be in prison right now,too, but instead is a Big Hollywood Lobbyist. With all the other rackets and pathology out there I have narrowed my concern to two: 1) Bad money and 2) busybody warfare. I live in a southern defense industry town. The money flows like wine at a bacchanal and its bad form to call your neighbors–killers. Why can we not cut the defense budget and add some chill to the inevitable -winter’s coming? Hillary and Jeb are BAU. Interesting that there is very little, read virtually none, discussion of the money spent on “defense” either in MSM or even here and other fringe places. Bernie Sanders is, indeed, an Alan Arkin-esque character. For me, his saving grace is that he, as an avowed Socialist, is “untouchable” in this political system, and has most probably not been bought and paid for by special interests. Can he save the country? Hell no, but he would provide great theatre whilst we await our comeuppance.
I happened to see a moment of Larry David’s impression of Bernie Sanders this past Saturday evening and it took me most of the time I watched to realize it wasn’t actually Sen. Sanders.
Yes, it seems we in America want a Daddy to fix Things and a Mommy to tell us Things will be OK.
The trouble is, it’s the Thing itself which can’t be fixed. We’ve allowed Finance to overwhelm everything else in our society, and our system of Finance has a fatal flaw in it.
Our system is based on debt at interest. That’s what our money is, in fact; coupons for debt at interest. That means there has to be more money tomorrow to pay off the debts incurred today. That should happen by real economic growth, but we don’t live in an infinite world. Once limits are hit, the system has to collapse. We began nudging up against those limits some 35 years ago (opinions differ on exactly when).
But the Elites didn’t want to let the system collapse and reconfigure itself, erasing huge amounts of debt in the process. The Elites wanted to keep the advantages they had, not to have to start over. So we just started cheating, and claiming that debt which could never be repaid could be, and that economic growth that wasn’t happening actually was, and so on.
Most of us really do know this. We just won’t admit it out loud because we’re afraid we, or everyone around us, will freak out severely. And that’s not an unreasonable fear. So we pretend things are just fine, when we know they aren’t, and we fixate on tiny distinctions and details to distract ourselves from the unsolved problem which just keeps getting worse as we neglect it.
Now we’re at the bizarre point where the candidates for President from a major party have to pretend they don’t believe in the science that forms the basis of the society they live in and the inventions they use every day.
The other major party has to pretend that the obviously broken system can be fixed by making it more “fair,” or at least by pandering to a different group. The notion of “Identity Politics” is held up as meaning something, as if somehow only a middle-aged white male midwesterner who grew up poor and now runs his own business can look after my personal interests, and only a black woman could understand what my neighbor needs, etc. It’s all totemistic magical thinking, because it’s the entire system that needs replacing, from the ground up.
Nobody wants to be the first to admit this, and take the blame for the panic that will ensue. Of course, the dread of the panic is always far worse than the actual panic, as a lot of people will say, “Thank God somebody finally said it; now let’s get to work,” and will behave very well indeed. Always happens.
Many short-term petty political advantages come from situations where nobody is willing to tell the truth. Benghazi is a good example. Both parties know the consulate in Benghazi was the CIA station house, the torture chamber, the headquarters of the Sunni mercenaries who are the long-term collaborators with the Zbignew Brzezinski-worshiping cabal that runs US foreign policy and has for the past 50 years. The locals blew their cool and attacked this fortress of evil in their midst, and both the Republicans and Democrats know it perfectly well. They also know the US consulate in Benghazi was the staging point for the next move, to Syria.
Hillary Clinton can’t and won’t tell the truth, so the Republicans are free to beat her over the head with it until she does, which will happen never. It’s free punches time, and she deserves it.
Same rules apply to our overall situation. Until somebody starts telling the truth we all either know or strongly suspect, that our system is fundamentally unsound and can’t be fixed and must therefore be replaced, we’ll have nothing but focus on insignificant minutiae blown up to titanic proportions. Gay marriage? Fine, whatever. Nobody really cares, other than tax accountants. We all already knew whom the gay couples were, and if you have any damn sense at all, you want them as your neighbors. Cops killing people for the hell of it, because they are trained to do so? Yes, we should stop that, and see it as the symptom of a collapsing system that it is, rather than as a “social justice” issue. When mercenaries are set forth to forage off the citizenry, it’s a 3rd Amendment issue for everyone, not just black people.
Bernie Sanders comes closest to being able to say our system doesn’t work, because he doesn’t have to pretend to be a loyalist to finance capitalism. All the rest do, which is particularly absurd because the last thing any American “finance capitalist” wants is actual free-market competition. They all want crony corporatism, with their own interests favored over all others, of course.
Nobody is going to acknowledge the truth until it becomes so painfully obvious to everyone that it has to be mentioned. And then, all at once, everybody is going to say they knew it and had been saying so all along, but nobody would listen.
I’d love to fast-forward to that point, but that’s not how these things go. As an individual, all I can do is tell people what I observe, and act accordingly to safeguard myself and my family, while going about my business. Sort of like making sure the silverware gets wiped down so it doesn’t get spotted, in the dishroom of the Titanic. But maybe I can take my work over near the escape hatch…

I agree with Janos that people really do care, both those always looking to discover new personal freedoms to impose on the unenlightened masses and those who don’t want that kind of enlightenment forced down their throats.
Gay marriage is admittedly insignificant in terms of the miniscule numbers of people who want to avail of it in comparison with the main story, which is the irrelevance which traditional marriage has been reduced to, but the ‘minutiae’ taken as a whole are most certainly not. JHK’s opening line is something I have long been saying, in the sense that you can’t ’embrace’ the liberal agenda unless you wipe your memory. If behaviour is tolerated now, even actively promoted as virtuous, which would have shocked 50, 30, 20, 10, even 5 years ago (and that’s not even going back to before the beginning of the progressive revolution) how does that work then?
What Barack Obama is fighting for
A few days ago, President Obama gave a very remarkable interview to CBS correspondent Steve Croft in his program “60 Minutes.”
Obama looked tired but nevertheless content, as a person that has successfully completed something important, maybe the most important thing in his life. Meanwhile, he still has a year at the helm of the domestic and foreign policy of the USA, and the things that are the most central to his presidency, are very far from complete.
In particular, the fate of the Trans-Atlantic and Trans-Pacific Partnerships are in serious trouble. And the fate of the latter, already seemed to be solved in the best way for Obama suddenly again under threat after the betrayal of Hillary Clinton. Former Secretary of State immediately before the televised debates attacked the treaty, one of the authors of which she is. And it happened after Obama did not at her request create a no-fly zone over Syria. Neither did he start to arm the so-called moderate opposition to the Assad regime.
I must say, the time for this interview was chosen very poorly. Steven Croft is considered a heavyweight of American journalism, and to give him an interview – an impossible dream of many American politicians, including members of Congress and the US Senate. He was the first journalist to whom Obama gave an interview shortly after he became president, and it may very well be that this is his last in office, a certain retrospective of his work.
Meanwhile, Obama’s ratings are currently at a very low point and he had to answer questions from Steve Croft, associated with a very low estimate of his achievements by an overwhelming majority of Americans. However, Barack Obama responded to these questions openly, claiming that his greatest achievement is the successful struggle with the consequences of the economic crisis of 2008 which he led his entire first term in the White House.
But while he was struggling with the economic crisis, his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has managed to support the Islamist revolutions in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Syria, known as the “Arab Spring”, and his second term, Obama began by saying that he would try to correct the effects of her activities. In particular, it was with his blessing that the counter coup occurred in Egypt, after which President Obama has asked Congress to declare war on Islamic state in an official statement by the US Congress. That is required by the US Constitution; unlike undeclared, “humanitarian wars” that Hillary Clinton so loves to arrange.
Unfortunately, those who believe that US must first overthrow Assad, and only then engage in a fight with “Islamic state” failed that proposal of US President, since it would allow Obama to enact Trading with the Enemy Act of 1939 and to throw in jail anyone who airdrops weapons to ISIS and buys their oil. And they continued to arm the so-called moderate Syrian opposition, who after receiving weapons, instantly turns into ISIS, the struggle with which turns into American shame.
And now, when Russia began to operate independently and the Russian President de facto becomes the leader of anti-ISIS coalition, Barack Obama suddenly gives interview to Steven Croft, despite the fact that the majority of Americans sees the geopolitical changes as a strategic defeat of the United States, under the responsibility of the President himself.
And Steven Croft asks him the question: “Do we not lose the US leadership position in the Greater Middle East due to the weakness of Barack Obama as the president? ..” Barack Obama begins to answer this question in his usual diplomatic manner, but Stephen Croft begins to break in and pretty aggressively and lists accusations toward Obama. The latter turns on his speaking skills and forces the interviewer to recognize that these accusations come from Israel, Saudi Arabia and the hawks of the Republican Party. In response, Obama openly said that those who accuse him of weakness really want him to start deliveries of American weapons to opponents of Assad and Russia, and even to start a new war in Syria against the legitimate government of this country.
In response to the accusation of surrender leadership positions, President Obama says that President Putin, of course, would prefer that the army of President Assad has solved the problem of ISIS, “Al-Qaeda”, “Al-Nusra” and other immoderate opposition alone, without the intervention of Russian Air Force. In addition, Obama redefines the concept of “leadership”, claiming, for example, that the real leadership is to fight against climate change, but not to execute the duties of the Supreme Commander. And in a sense he is right, because the drought in California and hurricanes and floods in New Orleans, New Jersey and New York, of course, represent a much greater threat to the United States than the Assad government in Syria.
Unfortunately, in the United States this view is still considered as foolishness, but President Obama says the “foolish” things with difficulty refraining from a triumphant smile. Moreover, it seems that he says something very important, for which he went for the interview. So what is this thing, the completion of which has forced President Obama to take this step, forcing him to answer the most unpleasant questions in the most inconvenient time for himself?
The answer to this question was, oddly enough, given by the television channel Fox 5, who drew attention to Obama’s words in the interview, according to which it is due to the good work of US intelligence Obama had long been aware that Russia is prepared to use military force to protect the Syrian state, personified by the president Assad. And what excited Fox5 was not the praise to the US intelligence community, which no one believed anyway, but the fact that this recognition shows that Barack Obama drank Champaign with Putin for the health of the United Nations, knowing that the so-called moderate opposition to Assad would soon be bombed by Russian Air Force.
Indeed, if Obama knew that Russia is going to throw its military weight on the scale of the Syrian conflict, during a private meeting with President Putin, he undoubtedly discussed possible responses to this action by the war party in the United States, headed by Hillary Clinton.
And she did not disappoint expectations, predictably demanded the introduction of “no-fly zone” in Syria, which was already introduced in Kosovo and Libya both times leading to war.
And then it becomes clear an additional meaning of launching Russian cruise missiles “Caliber” from the Caspian Sea, which has happened on the same day after an attempt to declare a no-fly zone in Syria, very clearly demonstrated that the US aircraft carrier group in the Persian Gulf led by the aircraft carrier “Theodore Roosevelt” is in the kill zone of small missile ships “Buyan-M”.
Accordingly, it becomes understandable immediate response to the launch of Calibers by President Obama, who “fear for strategic resource” carrier battle group led by the aircraft carrier “Theodore Roosevelt” and Squadron of F-22 “Raptor” at the air base in Abu Dhabi, ordered them immediately to leave the area of a possible pre-emptive strike by the Russian missiles, the possibility of which have been so clearly demonstrated on the birthday of the President of Russia.
Now the no-fly zone over Syria has nothing to be implemented with, and all the influence of Hillary Clinton is not enough to move the carrier battle group to the other regions of the world, especially against the active opposition of US President.
The decision of President Obama was told with indignation to its television audience by Fox5. And the fact that they do not understand that it is all about preventing a nuclear war, should be attributed to the persistence of militaristic propaganda in the US. Fox5 cannot simply explain to the Americans that Russia is again a superpower, with military might at least comparable to the military might of the United States, and not only in nuclear but also in conventional weapons.
For President Obama, of course, it is a great victory worthy of his political career, since he seems to have long been aware of the changed strategic balance, but the president, who did not want to admit this fact and bring the matter to complete disaster, would not be the First Black President of the United States.

Obviously, President Obama hasn’t been able to get Zbigniew Brzezinski and his proteges out of control of US foreign policy. Maybe some sort of exorcism would help in that regard; burning of sage, ritualistic chanting, etc. Wooden stakes through some hearts probably wouldn’t hurt things, either.

Every so often, JHK puts up a piece that hits me where I live, deep down. Usually it’s the same perspective, just framed with a metaphor that resonates with me. This is one such.
As my life unfolds, and my next birthday will be my 50th, I find that things in my life I had always considered as detriments and obstacles turn out later to have been huge advantages.
Growing up poor while being surrounded with wealth I couldn’t share or use was one. I was really angry about that for a long time. With time, however, I’ve seen how the people I envied have turned out. They’ve had material comfort their whole lives, and most of them are miserable. They’ve had to deal with knowing they didn’t earn their comfort, and they’ve had a lot of time to think about whether or not they are good and useful people. Many of them are neither. I’ve never had the time to spend pondering my existence for very long; I just have had to do it. As a result, I have a lot less than many people I know, but I sure do enjoy what I do have. I haven’t had to become cynical to justify my privileges. I can actually mean what I say, and believe it too. I don’t have unreasonable guilt, nor defensive reactions to protect myself. I still can’t jet off to the Alps for a weekend of skiing, but I don’t care. I know people who do that sort of thing all the time, but are so miserable they can only function in a medicated haze, full of bitterness, and spreading their misery to everyone who is unfortunate enough to have to deal with them.
JHK’s metaphor that hit me was the yearning for a Daddy to fix things and a Mommy to tell them everything will be OK. My actual parents are still alive. My life has been made vastly more complicated and difficult by the fact that my Daddy is the alcoholic son of a very angry and probably alcoholic father. My mother had a crisis at age 16 that left her emotionally crippled. They were (and still are) perfect for each other in the way that only two completely dysfunctional people can be.
For the longest time I’d thought that was a huge burden to me, and made it much more difficult for me to mature into a functional, autonomous adult. As I’ve raised my two children, now teenagers getting ready to become adults themselves, I’ve constantly questioned myself as a parent and tried hard to not do to them what was done to me.
Whether it’s as a result of my self-doubt, or my incredibly insightful parenting, my kids are two of the best people I know. They’re honest, open, forthright, smart, empathetic, and magnetic people. Others are drawn to them. Everybody likes them, and wants to be near them and help them. I try to explain to them that they’ll attract users as well, and they’ll need to learn to tell whom they should be wary of.
Key to my development has been the fact that I don’t want my Daddy to fix things, nor my Mommy to tell me everything is OK. My Daddy can’t fix anything, nor would anyone want him to try. My Mommy’s assurances were transparently ineffectual to me even as a very young child.
I learned very early on that things went well for me when I was able to take things into my own hands; not without difficulties of course, but I have always either found a way to make things work, or I’ve seen well enough to bail out of a hopeless situation before it was too late. When I’ve had real catastrophes, it’s been when I haven’t taken the initiative on my own behalf, relying on others to keep my best interests foremost. Guess what. Others don’t do that. I’m the only person I really trust to look out for my own best interests.
Some people find that outlook depressing, but they’re fooling themselves. Actually, my parents find my outlook depressing and berate me for it. I don’t respond. I don’t have time to engage in that sort of thing; I have to support myself, my family, and I have to pay my parents’ bills too. Really, I suppose I don’t have to, but I feel I should, so I do. If I were more like them, waiting for somebody else to take care of them, I wouldn’t be able to do anything for them.
That’s the problem. Too many of us are expecting somebody else to take care of them. Their parents must have promised to always be there for them, and they believed it. I’ve always told my kids I really couldn’t help them that much, but that they would be able to do just fine on their own, with the little help I could give them. They seem to have believed that, and act accordingly. I overhear them hearing their friend’s problems, and they’re always telling their friends to stop depending on others and just do it themselves; even a wrong move has to be better than just sitting there passively.
America wants what it can never have and shouldn’t even want. Christ, I’m 49 years old. Why would I want to be parented? Especially if you knew my parents.
Just another thing I thought was a problem that turned out to be a huge advantage. Like having made a mistake in my 20s that kept me from using any credit until I was in my 30s and had gotten used to paying cash for everything.

To clarify, the law I am saying we need would not affect anything people do now to get knocked up. I am with you on same-sex procreation. I would add, however, in vitro and surrogate procreation for heterosexual couples unable to conceive naturally. I have in vitro created triplet niece/nephews, at least two of which will be disabled wards of the state for their entire tortured lives. this is common with in vitro.

Bernie Sanders would be my candidate of choice, but there’s no way he can get the delegates. Hillary is too much establishment to effect any real change. If Trump somehow gets elected (highly doubtful, but George W. Bush stole two elections, so all bets are off) there will be a reversal of border crashings, as Americans attempt to flee to our neighbors north and south.
There is plenty of criticism to go around as to the slate of Presidential candidates from both parties, but really, does it matter, given the current political system? Down at Wesleyan U in Middletown, CT, an undergrad (described as a veteran, probably at Wesleyan under the same program i was in) had the audacity, the balls, to write an editorial in the student newspaper, The Argus, established 150 years ago, suggesting in the mildest way possible that the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement might be a little ill conceived and possibly leading to the murder of police officers as seen in Texas and NYC. Well, the sh-t hit the fan, as you can imagine. There was an uproar, with the venerable campus publication charged with racism, fostering hatred, and possibly in the employ of the KKK. Something, of course, had to be done, and fast. So the student senate took a vote, and without dissent decided to de fund and shut down the Argus (after 150 years in business).
Man, what’s the political climate like on college campuses now? Question, these delicate, precious little pearls in colleges and universities, what are they going to do when they get out into the real world and find out that nobody gives a f-k about their tender PC sensibilities? What a shock it’ll be.

U.S. pilots told not to react to aggressive Russian jets in Syria

It so happened that our American opponents have a pretty impressive arsenal of nuclear weapons and “financial weapons” and the current serious problems of the United States are a very tempting reason to use these weapons in the framework of geopolitical competition.

The intensity of the confrontation between elite groups in the United States can be measured indirectly. When everything is more or less calm, the inter-clan dog fights are “under the carpet”, and competing elite factions always put US interests above personal accounts or gaining political points.
But at key moments when on the result of the confrontation of elites depends the road on which the country will go in the future, national interests are sacrificed on the altar of victory in the elite wars.
The brightest and freshest example – is the position of Hillary Clinton (the public leader of the “insane”) on the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
The signing of the trade pact is an objective victory for Washington in the Asian front.
This victory is especially valuable against the backdrop of the recent defections of Pacific vassals of Washington, which joined the Chinese Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. It would seem, in the name of national interests of the United States, even those who hate Obama administration should applaud it.
It turned out the opposite. Hillary Clinton sharply criticized Trans-Pacific Partnership and this despite the fact that in the past she 25 (!) times publicly expressed her support, and even called it the “gold standard of trade agreements”.
When the desire to harm the domestic political opponent prevails over the desire to promote national interests, this means that elite started the civil war.
Many of the actions of various US agencies become clear only when viewed in the context of all-out war between the various elite groups.
For example, the leaks to official American press of complete failure of the training and financing of the so-called “moderate Syrian opposition”? Is Obama’s administration consists of masochists? Does the White House get pleasure when the whole world is laughing at the Pentagon, and Putin publicly dunks Americans in this epic failure?
Then why do it? Within the logic of civil war in the political elite of the United States everything becomes crystal clear.
Brzezinski, Clinton, McCain and other “insane” publicly demand that the Obama administration introduce a no-fly zone over Syria to protect “US assets”, ie militants, in which billions of dollars have been invested. The calculation is clear: Obama or group must either show to the undecided voters that it is unable to protect the interests of the United States, or Obama should take the risk of a military confrontation with Russia in Syria.
The PR department of sane part of the American elite came up with a brilliant countermove. They made a single “leak” to the media that only 5 members of “moderate militants” in Syria were trained; they put the “dogs of war” in an awkward position. Now they must either stop demanding the introduction of the American no-fly zone, or should openly admit that they require the White House to protect Islamic State.

The New Yorker had an interesting article by Malcolm Gladwell on school shootings where he likened them to what happens in a riot.
Gladwell’s idea is that school shootings are like a slow moving riot, where looters serve as the example for bystanders. Similarly each shooting serves as the example for the next shooters, Gladwell citing what shooters themselves had to say.
To me, it’s like these shootings pop up like bubbles in a pot of water on the stove. As the water heats you get one bubble, then another, then, at some point, the whole pot erupts into a rolling boil.
Like Kunstler says, anything goes and nothing matters. Anything goes because that’s what great intellectuals tell us. In a word, per the Kardashian Movement: whatever. No shame, no embarrassment. The tall foreheads say there’s no real truth, there’s no real right and wrong. The great ones sneer at religious codes of conduct, they say in learned discourses that it all depends, that it’s all relative to where you stand. Inevitably, the line of thinking filters down, and so, at the outer edges, what goes is mass murder.
At the other end of the spectrum you have the delusions of “safe space” ninnies and the “micro aggression” police, always on the look-out and ever-ready to suffer offence at nothing. I speculate that my great grand parents (who were German) when naming their son (my grand father) gave him the middle name Marx in honor of Karl Marx who was admired, rightly or wrongly, by many people, especially the common man. For italics, for me, it seems you use the pointy bracket as shown by wpa, then em, then the other pointy bracket pointing to the right, then the same again to close, but with a / (slash) before the em (that’s an ‘e’ and an ‘m’, everything together, unless that didn’t come out).
I had the second pointy bracket in my first test pointing the wrong way. Be careful which way you point them.

I can appreciate your anger at Muslims who are now crossing into Europe and demanding that Christians save them from the savagery of Islam. It is indeed much to stomach. I think many of us feel that we should certainly save our Syrian brothers and sisters in Christ, and perhaps even the Yazidi who seem to be a decent people. Our doors should be opened to them. But it is hard to imagine opening our gates to those who believe we all must submit to their false religion or die and with whom death and destruction always seems to follow. I too ask myself what are we to do. Ultimately, I believe that we must offer them what Christian charity we can. That does not mean we must allow them free roam of our lands to kill, rape, maim, and otherwise sow discord and chaos. They can be kept in well regulated and guarded refugee camps. They will be required to behave in an orderly and civil manner, and they will be further required to work to maintain their own camps and living quarters and prepare their own food. Those who will not work will not eat. When they can be safely returned to their homelands they will be. If they can be transferred into the custody of a Muslim state (where are the Gulf nations to save their Muslim brothers?), then they should be.
You are right in that the Old Testament was much about race. The Jews were indeed God’s chosen people, and the vehicle through which He redeemed all mankind. But the covenant of Abraham has been forever replaced by the new and everlasting covenant of Jesus Christ. There is no longer any chosen people. God has made it unmistakable that His new covenant extends to all the people’s of the earth. It is too long to quote in its entirety here, but read about St. Peter’s dream on the roof in Joppa and the revelation God gave to him (Acts 10).

The problem with these house fires in cities like Hartford, Bridgeport, New Haven and Waterbury is that it seems like its almost always the result of the crime of arson. Can you imagine, setting a house full of people afire, at night when everybody is sleeping … its a different mentality, a 3rd world mentality where life is cheap, and basic decency is nonexistent.
Now its here, and we’re part of the 3rd world, just a few miles east, down the road a bit.
Something else. Its not like when a farmhouse burns or is destroyed and a single family is displaced. No, these people are packed in like sardines, dozens in a single unit, with no resources whatsoever, hundreds in a building. The state govt. has to put them up, usually in shabby motels north and south of the city, where they stay for months, even years.
Its just chaos down there, unspeakable human tragedies reported every single day, it wears you down after awhile. And like JHK says, the local media reports each event like its something new or uniquewith no sense of history, instead of just a way of life, business as usual, the way things are now, and will be into the future, only worse.
